Excellent professor! One of the best chem prof. on campus. Very clear, organized and simple but effective teaching methods. MUST take her if majoring in any science!Exams are easy (with studying ofcourse.)Good luck, not that you should need any:) at least not in her class.
She's GREAT...really clear and to the point; and if you don't like chemistry> she's the one to take...pretty easy
She was an easy A...i took her in the summer and had over a 100 av. before the final exam..just look at notes off the powerpoint and you should do fairly well..tests are easy and she dropped our lowest grade
Mrs. Diaz is an excellent professor! One of the best chem prof. on campus. Her lectures are very clear, organized and simple but effective teaching methods. MUST take her if majoring in any science!Exams are easy (with studying ofcourse.) Enjoyed her class and learned alot.
Excellent profeesor, yet I came out with a B in the class, I would recomend her to everyone taking a Chemistry, shes very clear and always willing to help. Note: You really got to study for her tests, she teaches really great but you got to know it for the exams.
good teach
Good lab supervisor; better than TAs. Gives easy quizzes at the beginning of class; be sure to use correct significant figures. She is recommended.
she is pointless, grades odd like a quiz is 2 points, miss 1 out of 3 questions and you get .50 which doesnt make sense. avoid her, take john villareal, very cool professor and has a great teaching method.
took her for my lab,and it was the worst experience ever. i wish i had learned about this site before hand, so i wouldn't have taken her. you take a pre-lab quiz EVERYDAY and her grading is pretty dumb its 2 points total so if u miss something u get like a 0.8 out of 2..it's weird. she is a pretty boring person in general. no enthusiasm whatsoever
I can't believe all of these reviews! This lady was extremely helpful to everyone in my class. She gave so many extra credit opportunities which have helped me out SO much. I really recommend her for anyone who has trouble in this section. She let us somewhat chose the dates of the exams and really teaches rather thank just reading the powerpoints.
Ya I agree...I cant believe people are making those rude comments...she was extremly helpfull and her door was always open. Chemistry is not an easy course to begin with but she wont continue until you understand the material.
I love her!!! She's super awesome. She actually cares about her students. She's available during her office hours all the time. She figures out where youre getting stuck and helps you as much as she can. She doesnt curve but because she available at all time for you to go and get help. Going to class was super fun even if was her night class.
You will know Chemistry after you take her trust me... She is there to help you anytime. These people trash talking Mrs. Diaz probably didnt pass her class because they never asked for help and when they did it was probably to late for it. Her grading actually help you all stupid those of you who got .8 be glad she didnt give you a big fat 0.
extremly easy compared to other chemistry professors at utpa! her quizes are easy and are added as extra points on the exams she also helps alot if you make an effort. Chemistry is a hard subject and you need to be prepared at the end she drops one low exam grade :)...
At first I thought she was the easiest teacher in the world, but as the semester went on things changed... She started getting moody and mad at the class so she was really picky about showing work and barely gave any extra credit points. I taught myself because she is impossible to follow, so unorganized. I only got an A because I love chemistry.
She is a teacher who cares for her students and offers extra credit but is really picky about showing work so receiving a lot of points is hard. Her lectures are kinda boring and she jumps from topic to topic and the average for her tests are in the 70's. Not a great teacher just an average teacher, but i advise to take someone else
This is a very easy class, to understand most of what she says go over her powerpoints. Honestly, this class is the simplest one i took and i got an A. Be prepared with your math skills and no doubt you will pass.
This class is no where easy so don't be fooled. She is a great person but, her teaching is poor. First, she gets these tutors/helpers that think they are your teachers and need to be checked. She is not always available to her students. There are always too many people too get the help you need. It is too much information.
Very helpful professor really cares about her students. Will offer extra credit when needed. Trust me take her I didn't know chemistry and I have an A so far , you won't regret it.
not helpul whatsover. does not explain anything clear, she doesnt teach just goes over slides. expects you to get a tutor and learn from them but yet they dont even know whats going on. attendance is not mandatory but even when you go its so boring and pointless. Reviews dont help.
She go just go over the pp slides. The class is very boring and she's not helpful at all, she thinks you already now everything and she expect you to learn from the tutors she assign and sometimes even the tutors don't understand what's going on. Attendance it's not mandatory. If chem is your major take someone else! I don't know how I get a B
This class is easy and the professor cares about her students passing.. she gives out extra credit. Dont expect to be handed everything out to you in college.. college is about researching and putting time. If u dont fall in that agenda that why waste your money and time. Class is easy! come on!!
She is really good! but she assumes students know a lot of information. She wants students to pass so she gives out extra credit opportunities. Exams in the labs were super easy!! but she is not really clear explaining stuff. I got an A in the lab but I feel I learned nothing!!
Strongly recommend taking this class in the summer. Very nice. Ask many questions. Most of the questions come from the old exams!! I really learned a lot.
Ms. Diaz is nice and approachable, I went to her office to pick up exams and chatted with her about the grades. Her exams are almost identical to the practice ones she posts on blackboard. If you go through 2 or 3 of her old ones you'll get an A for sure. She also gives a BUNCH of opportunities for extra credit: doing quizzes online, tutoring, etc.
She doesnt explain well, and just goes through her powerpoints expecting her student to pick up the information quickly. If you really want to understand something RAISE YOUR HAND. She's approachable. Funny and awesome. She allows many opportunities for extra credit on tests (up to 15 pts). She puts up her old tests and lets you use a "cheat page."
Shes really nice a fun professor! Her lectures arent boring but she expects us to have a lot of prior knowledge before entering her class Homework is easy but it does take a lot of time Procrastination is not an option with homewrk Plus she gives you mre than enough time to do them but lets just say i ended up changing my major because of this class
Cool professor. Gives extra credit on tests. She puts up old tests on blackboard so you can review and know more or less what to expect on the tests she gives. Plenty of time to get homework done. Lets you use a "cheat sheet". Of course you have to put in effort, but an A is easily obtainable in this class.
I love her! nicest professor i had. she does everything possible to make her students get a good grade. going to her office is really helpful. she gives extra credit on every test and gives you a paper in which you can write notes and you can use it during test.
She is extremely nice and helpful, but tends to just graze over the power points, and expects you to understand Do the homework because in the end it will count as much as a test. Show up to class before the exam because she reviews old ones. Every exam, you need to dedicate some time to study on you own. Overall, I found her to be okay.
Do not take her if you are bad in chemistry. You will not pass.
She is unclear and tends to make lame jokes. DO THE HW, it will count as a test. She is not helpful and is lazy. Overall I recommend you take her in the spring or summer.
Really great! I failed chem the first time and got an A with her the second time! Lots of extra credit, go to her office!!! She needs to see your effort.
Awesome Professor! Tests are confusing but if you study and put your time in to learning the material you will be fine. Go to her office she gives a lot of extra credit! & do the homework it is so helpful to your overall grade. :)
This class is not an easy one. you need to do your part and study if you want that A. She's a great teacher, however she doesn't baby anyone a lot needs to be learned and studied on your own. Its college.
I took this class in the spring. Very good teacher, she explain very well and helps a lot during class (raise your hand and ask). She is very approachable. She drops your lowest test grade and gives extra credit. It is an easy A if you're good at math but overall you get what you put in. I would definitely recommend this professor if you want an A.
my TA was amanda and miss diaz was the main professor, however she would come in very now and then to help out with the class, but her profession for the class, she gives notes for what we will be doing for the class alot easier, the quizes are all on line and unlimited to take until you get a better grade, droppes lowest grade and gives extra cred
Terrible class! She has TAs that are students teach the lab portion of the class. I have taken her for 2 semesters and I have no idea how she manages to find the meanest, most uninterested girls to teach Chemistry. They don't care how their students are doing, if they are learning, are unhelpful and tough graders. Terrible terrible class.
She's funny. But that's about it. The material is confusing as it is and if you don't speak up she will teach like everyone knows the material. Skips steps and boom your lost. She's there for help if you happen to catch her at her office. Tests are nothing like the practice tests. Lab she doesn't teach it's gonna b a mean TA that doesn't care
its mixed reviews since it all depends on the TA you get... I got Frank Ramirez whom didn't know anything and wasn't properly teaching.. Some TA's are willing to help some won't. The homework is hard but easy after the first month. tests and exams are hard too unless you know what to do.
Chemistry is a difficult course and it will help if the teacher actually explained which she didn't...
shes a great professor and her labs are a piece of cake she works with her students if they reach out to her. dont wait to last minute she will help u if needed
Amazing! Chemistry is not an easy subject but she really cares and wants to help her students pass the course. If you put in your part an A is very much attainable. She gives extra credit for group projects. She posts exam reviews from previous semesters. Study and get comfortable with those and your test should be pretty easy. Practice!
Since this is a lab, Diaz is not there to instruct because there is a TA. Everything is pretty simple, the lab reports and the experiments, presentation and quizzes. But, the two tests, the midterm and final are difficult. She does not give you a good study guide. Her study guide's are so broad that it wont help you for the tests.
Her TA grades the weekly lab reports harshly. Had Ms. Diaz as my lab instructer. It was fine but the tests were okay if you studied.
By far one of the best instructors for Chem. She hands out extra credit, but her study guides are the most helpful and allow you concentrate on what you need to be studying for the exams.
Hands out extra credit like candy. Even if you're one of the students that struggles, her exam drops will push you a whole letter grade up. The class itself is not hard. She teaches it very well and works with you.
Amazing instructor. She's passionate about teaching and the exams are super easy if you know what to study. And guess what? She gives you a guide to help you study!
She is very understanding and easy to communicate with. She tries to accommodate with everyone when something goes wrong. Very funny.
She really made me start to love Chemistry. Mrs. Diaz is funny and caring. She wants everyone to do good and gives a lot of extra credit. Her lectures are clear and helpful. She even gives study guides that give you a boost on the exam. Overall Chemistry is not the easiest but you will be fine if you take her.
The class is overall pretty easy to pass, however, her lab report grader is very specific. She is really understanding and has a good relationship with students. Her tests are a bit difficult to study for since the study guide is very broad.
I had her for lab she is very helpful and a great teacher. she is very lenient in her lab reports. I heard mixed reviews from her lecture but for lab she was a real GEM!!
Has online quizzes for every chapter but gives 3 attempts. Online sapling homework was added this semester along with a clicker (iReef) app that made attendance mandatory. Her tests are very similar to the reviews and past exams she uploads on blackboard. Lots of extra credit available and second chances for homework and quizzes.
She was very helpful both during lab and outside class. She gives extra credit that she places in the midterm and final. Online quizzes due an hour before every lab. Tough lab report grader.
Will give you a hard time about your grade even when it's not your fault or fair. Has high expectations, but can lecture decently.
Professor Diaz is decent overall, but she is so slow with her lectures because she has lots of students in her class. Her exams are super easy, so just study the material. She gets off track easily, but she can lecture you the information. Mandatory PLTL attendance because it's a "hard" class.
She's an amazing professor, I loved taking her. She's very helpful with the content, and helps you understand it in an easy way. I also had her for lab and I received an A. She's very generous, she gives out A LOT of extra credit, and drops your lowest test. A lot of hw, but easy. A lot of quizzes, but if you took down notes, you'll be good.
Lovely professor! Offers a bunch of extra credit opportunities and office hours, so there is no reason you shouldn't pass. 10/10 would recommend!
Ms. Diaz is one of the most caring professors I've had. She genuinely cares about her students and gives extra credit. Chemistry can be a tough subject, but she explains it very well and will answer any question that you have. I recommend her for chem 1311 and chem 1111.
I took professor Diaz for CHEM 1311 and CHEM 1111 and she is such a caring professor! She is always willing to re explain the material if you need help and offers a lot of extra credit. I am not the best at chemistry but I managed to get an A in the class by doing her practice tests and doing practice questions to get the material.
Professor Diaz is such a caring person. I took her for both CHEM 1111 and CHEM 1311 and she was great! She gives a lot of extra credit opportunities and holds a lot of office hours to help those students who need it. I would most definitely recommend taking Chem 1 with her!
If youre IN class and watch the lectures, passing with a good grade is 100% possible. Shes so easy to work with and gives so much to her students. Shes super cute!
I liked her at first. But shes very unorganized and also rude. Interrupts students and doesnt really explain. I would not take her again!
I think Professor Diaz is one of the best chemistry teachers Ive had. She goes at a really good pace, not too fast/slow, she will answer your question 1 mil times if you want, she gives so much extra credit. Study the quizzes and you will ace the exams. Go to her review session, she gives so many tips. Her class is easy if you love chemistry.
Professor Diaz was a very fun and caring professor. She made the lab class seem less scary. Her exams were fairly hard so extra studying will be needed. There were several other assignments and an important group project. Her class was tough for me, only because I am bad at chem. So I recommend her if you are good at chem. PLTL was very helpful :)
professor diaz is a nice person but she requires an insane amount of homework and work. each week we have so much to do. requires respondus and webcam for exams. gices extra credit but since exams are so hard it doesnt add up. dont take if you want an easy a.
Diaz is a very nice lady, but she teaches all over the place. Really hard to grasp information. Exams (Lockdown browser webcam) are hard even by studying try to teach myself, I have failed all of them. She is very picky when typing your answer on an exam. Chemistry class itself is already tough, and with her it's harder. Lots and lots of homework!
Honesty I have never disliked a professor so much till Professor Diaz. She was very rude to many students and she never really taught our class, she let her TA do all of the work. Overall, I am very upset and would not recommend if you want to learn chemistry. Take another professor!
Not as hard at it seems. She helps does give out a lot of homework, but she gives you time to do it during PLTL which is PLENTY of time. Test/Final aren't as heavily weight because she grades a lot of small easy things. Test aren't hard if you go to grad review same test just diff numbers(mostly). get to do corrections and quizzes are in groups.
I'm currently taking Professor Diaz for Chem 1 lecture and she's great! Chem is one of those classes that is just hard but she really helps you grasp the concepts. She lectures great and goes slow to help us out. She really does a lot to help out her students and is very accessible, and she gives plenty of opportunities for extra credit.
Professor Diaz is an awesome teacher. It's obvious she truly cares and listens to her students despite having so many. Put the effort in and you'll get a good grade with her. Only wish she taught more chem classes!
She is very understanding and cares about her students. She makes O chem lab easy!
I took her during summer2022 and she is by far the most understanding and sweetest professor i've ever taken. 4 exams and drops the lowest one. extra credit is offered to boost up exam grades. She can also be quick with the emails! 1000/10 recommend. :)
I had her for chem for engineers 1309 and her lectures are entertaining and informational. She is also very flexible on due dates and extends them if a decent amount of the class was not able to finish an assignment. She also has a lot of extra-credit that can be added to the exams.
Professor Diaz was an excellent instructor who cared about her students. The class consisted of weekly quizzes, homework assignments, four exams, and a final. She also exempted those who had an A from the final exam. Lectures went pretty fast so reviewing material outside of class was necessary. Exam reviews were helpful, as well!
I greatly enjoyed the class, and would definitely take it again. This is how Chemistry is meant to be taught!
Professor Diaz is a good lab instructor. She is very accommodating. Two students lead each lab, which helps us understand the labs better. A majority of the grade is just showing up with helps boost your grade. Make sure to do the lab reports correctly because she will take off points for incorrect sig figs or other mistakes.
She is a great professor! She tries to make sure everyone understands the material before exams. She would extend the date of the exam if most students do not understand the material. Study the reviews! The exams are exactly like the reviews. She offers exam study sessions (optional) and I HIGHLY RECOMMEND for you to attend. :)
We have homework on every chapter and quizzes during pltl but they're more difficult than the actual exam. She goes through ppts quickly but her exam reviews are almost exactly like the exam so just go over those and you'll do fine! She was kind and made everything easy to understand. I didn't stress much over this class so I highly recommend.
Mrs. Diaz was probably the best professor I've had at UTRGV. Her classroom has such a fun and comfortable environment, it literally felt like you were back in high school. HWs are due before exams, quizzes that you can take during pltl, and exam corrections. The work may seem like a lot but it really isn't. It is impossible to fail this class.
Professor Diaz was gr88! She helps students with what she can and she is really kind. She explained chemistry really good that it did not even seem hard at all. She has a way with students that's really good. She has a lot of patience and will strive for your success. Not hard material, just have to put in the work like any other class.
Professor Diaz was the most amazing and understanding professor I have met. She was so understanding of my situation and helped me. If I couldn't attend in person, she would help me by organizing a zoom. I didn't like was her tests, they were too specific. also, my D+ was because health issues and I fell behind with course work.
Prof Diaz is an amazing chemistry teacher, her lab was difficult on its own however she gives micro-lectures that explain the labs and help you understand the topics way more. Reviews are given for the midterm and final, they are similar but you need to know the labs in depth to score well on the exams. She is always there to help!
AMAZING PROFESSOR!! She made lab and lecture super easy to understand and her lectures are so funny! She calls the single displacement the home wrecker because it's when one element comes in to steal the place of another lol. 100 recommend her! Made me want to change my major and I hated CHEM before her class.4 exams, you only need 89.5 for an A!!!
Worst organization I have ever seen. She teaches all over the place, and it is very difficult to see what's going on in her ppts. Be prepared to download rarely useful, 10000 slide ppt for each topic.
Will NOT round your grade up. Even if you are .01 point away from the next letter grade
Overall Chill and easy to reach outside of class in my experience
Amazing professor!! Makes lab reports easy to complete and overall engaged in lab if you need help.
Chemistry for Engineers - Fall 2023. Provides lots of extra credit. Explains super clear, step by step, and simple. Disorganized blackboard and presentations. Super hard tests but reviews are almost identical. Final exemptions. 16.33% Exams (4) 15% Final Exam 10% Attendance (also PLTL) 15% Homework 5% Quizzes 6% Presentation 1% Wear Shirt to Exams
Professor Diaz made expectatins clear and was very respectable. Made class enjoyable. Only bad things I can say are the midterm and final were horrendous but the activities and homework were simple activities which made up a lot of credit. Overall I really liked this class.
She was very unorganized and any reviews she had for exams and the final are outside of class hours. You better get ready to download like a 70 slide PowerPoint of HALF a chapter which she goes over too fast that you don't even know what just happened. Honestly, I learned more in PLTL than in her actual lecture class. 4 exams 1 final and lots of hw
Had professor for lecture only. Quizzes, and SoftChalks are unlimited attempts which is what helped you grade a lot. Very exam heavy. Exams contained some hints. Definitely a class that requires a lot of studying for exams.
She uses PPs as visual aids. She is very kind and understanding especially towards someone like me who struggles with deadlines and being unable to concentrate, etc. Her teaching style is so engaging that I participated most of the time so that should speak volumes for how good she is.
This was my 2nd time taking chemistry it is a very hard course and she made it possible to pass for me. she has alot of homework and quizzes with unlimited attempts which was great for me because i was able to pick up my grade from all the extra credit. definitely recommended if you have trouble with chemistry she is really good.
Took her for gen chem 1 lab, super easy and simple lab reports. Not too harsh on grading but make sure to not miss deadlines (pre labs, lab reports, etc). She is very helpful and will explain if your professor is behind in lecture or if you have any questions. Choose lab partner wisely!!!
As everyone else said, she is very unorganized, she does not offer in-class reviews and only does so outside of class hours so good luck if you have other matters to attend to after her class. She is also very sarcastic through email. You are bombarded with information since day 1, so good luck trying to study through her PPs.
Every negative review here simply didn't put in the work required. This isn't a high school course. Professor Diaz is genuinely one of the best professors I have ever taken. SO much extra credit offered that I averaged 75-80 on each test and extra credit brought all of them to A's. Didn't even study that hard either. Don't listen to these reviews.
Professor Diaz is a great professor. Do not get overwhelmed with her blackboard lol; it is a bit disorganized, but she will guide you through it. I recommend using an ipad for this class as note talking on powerpoints is crucial to succeed in this class. She provides practice exams, which are super helpful and similar to exams. There is many EC.
Overall didn't enjoy her lecturing she is very monotone which can be good but I didn't like the way she levtured.
Professor Diaz makes chemistry manageable, even for those who struggle. With unlimited quiz attempts and helpful study tools like unstuck AI, I was able to ace the exams. Her engaging lectures and understanding nature made this a pleasant class overall.
came here to up her rating because she deserves a 5/5 omg. She is THE sweetest ever. Offers lots of extra credit, like 1 every two weeks I swear. I found her exams pretty easy and the one project is fun and literally not even chem related. Iclickers every class which are relatively easy and gives tips for lab and prepares you perfectly for chem2.
LOVE HER! she was very understanding and kind. She offers a ton of extra credit and also test corrections if needed. she is very fast paced so utilize her office hours. its a lot of work but if you keep up it will be good
Weekly softchalks, pre-lab quizzes, post-lab quizzes/lab reports. Midterm and Final Exam are heavy 19 percent each.
Amazing professor! Gives lots of extra credit on exams. Exams have study guides which are exactly the same. Two presentations plus powerpoint which are worth 8 percent. Extra credit opportunity at end of semester do it!!!! Lectures are the best she really makes it understandable and enjoyable.
Professor Diaz is a great professor! Her lectures are easy to understand, and she gives a lot of extra credit. She genuinely cares about her students succeeding and will reopen assignments if class is not finished. One of the best professors I have had, you have two projects/presentations, but they are pretty simple.
This professor gave TONS of extra credit. There were iclickers, exam corrections, and course evals for extra credit. You dont have to take the final if you have an A before taking it. She drops the lowest quizz. Quizzes were really easy, unlimited attempt. Theres a shirt project thats easy. Assignments are easy, unlimited attempts.
Ms. Diaz has to be one of the best professors!!! TAKE HER. Simpl assignments, extra credit, make sure you understand the study guides! TAKE HER.
Very good professor, lectures were easy and understandable. Attendance matters because you will need to remember from the lecture and the exams are exactly like the study guide
Everything you will ever need is on TopHat. The midterm and final are pretty surface-level to the experiments. Just get familiar with the experiments you perform throughout the course.
Tough but fair and expects you to treat the lab like if it were a professional setting not an educational one. Picky about significant figures when grading lab reports. Mid term and final are based solely on what you do in the labs. Study those and you'll be fine. Most of your grade is from easy assignments/attendance
Mrs. Diaz is a great professor, though unfortunately for me. Her lab was weird, didn't learn anything besides experiments. Made students teach the class hardly ever pitching in on what's actually happening. I would recommend her if you take her lecture simultaneously with her lab though, I feel that might be why I didn't understand much during lab.
Great lab and amazing participation in lab, she is a light to harsh grader, but study the material, the process of experiments, how they're executed and chemicals and reactions plus Tophat and you're guaranteed an A+. Put in the work and you're good.
it's a really easy class. she did iclickers to give extra credit, which bumped my exam scores up to an A. she also uses macmillan achieve, so you'd have to buy that, but you can just complete those during PLTL. my PLTL leader had told us that out of all the chem professors, she gave the easiest exams. please take her!
I got Keyaa as my TA. Pretty good lab. All the other reviews are pretty spot on.
Mrs.Diaz is a phenomenal professor! If you are looking to take an easy chem class to get a good grade for a medical related degree TAKE DIAZ!!! She is a silly professor with big heart , she cares about her students very much and is very understanding. She gives sooooo much extra credit and her exams are very easy if you take the time to study. i
AMAZING!!!!! Loved her class. She gives lots of extra credit, every class is a different experiment. Her class was so fun and she's a great professor, definetely recommend .
She gives a lot of extra credit. Im glad i had her for this semester. Just make sure to review labs and to FOLLOW any study guides that she gives for the midterm/final. Dont be afraid to ask questions.
Needless to say that she is an amazing professor! TopHat is required for lab manuals and was around $40. Pre-Lab Quizzes and Lab Reports are easy to complete, you can even ask Diaz herself to proof read the report or answer any questions needed during lab day. Gives extra credit opportunities in lab reports and for the Midterm & Final. Take her!!
She was a great professor and her exams were just like the reviews she has! She makes little jokes here and there, but it was a great class. She gives a lot of bonus points on exams for exam corrections and iClicker participation. She is sweet and cares a lot about her students. She also does exam reviews in-person and on zoom, which really helps.
