she is hard to understand at times. she doesn't like late students as well as homework. home work on an average night would be 100 probs. on test's everything has to be right, you can't even miss an equal sign otherwise you get marked down on that prob
She's not nice, hardly ever in her office. Hard to understand, willing to explain problems, but gives an attitude after a while, not cool...Her class is boring!
She does not teach good. She is very unhelpful and you cannot understand her
she is a great teacher once you get to know her .....i understand that its difficult in the beginning because she has n korean accent..but she is a good teacher. She is nice and very helpful. i enjoyed being in her class.
not a good teacher
Not a good teacher at all! if you like "W"s, then take this teacher, because thats what you're gonna have half way through the semester.
hard to understand
HARD TO UNDERSTAND BECAUSE OF HER ACCENT. gets fruesterated EXTREMELY EASILY. however, she is a nice person. if you can understand her accent go for it. otherwise..... take another teacher.
I finished this class with a 'B.' Mrs Paek speaks English and so do I. I understood her with perfect clarity. I studied and did my homework with a hangover all semester, or maybe I'm just smarter than most people.
Didn't answer any questions. Gave assignments that were irrelevent to tests.
Math 100 was very easy. Mrs. Paek was a great teacher. I loved being in her class. She has a very cute personality! I loved it when she would do something and then be like "ohhhh im so stupid!" I recommend her! Don't come in late or else!
I'm teaching the class to myself due to her inablity to teach. She seems very nice, however not a good teacher. Talks way to fast.
She's really nice, but I didn't like her way of teaching. She has an accent that people might not understand. I personally did, though. HW is due on test days. Do it or you'll totally fall behind. She goes pretty fast. Just do the HW and try to listen, or you'll totally be lost and will get nothing.
i think she is speaking japaneesse most of the time, hard to understand. confuses me most of the time.
Yeah, she forgot to sumit the grades for my class last semester... that about says it all!
i pass this class with a B. i still think i shoulda gotten an A though. but she's a pretty good teacher, there's alot of homework involved though. so mainly you have to work on homework and the tests are pretty easy. the class is just boring, but it's an easy class.
i took her for both 40 and 141 and i absolutely loved her. she works with you and shes super sweet. she is quite hard, but i learned a lot. i can understand her easily. she doesnt speak perfect english, but who does nowadays? all in all she is an amazing teacher and well worth the effort.
Prof. Paek is very hard to understand, its a very boring, hard course, and she explains the stupid, easy stuff (such as what every other odd is) like twenty times. shes very anal and her accent is so thick, its like you dont even know what shes saying. my advice: TAKE A DIFFERENT INSTRUCTOR IF YOU CAN!!!
Horrible! I could not understand her. She faced the white board the hole class time.
cant understand with thick accent
This teacher is very sweet and always willing to help you during her free time... she does have an accent but if you pay attention and want to succeed, her class is no problem... just do the homework and aks questions if you have them... other than that you should be able to ace her class... good teacher in my book
did not like her! she was mean and i could not UNDERSTAND her accent even though i was nearly the same race as she was...i STILL could not understand her...and it's weird because i had the higest grade in the class but she was STILL very MEAN!!!!
She is a little difficult to understand but since this is such a simple course it hasn't really affected my learning. I've just been on top of reviewing all material before every class. Sometimes I find myself drifting during her lecture as she does seem to focus on the easiest subject matter.
She was a good teacher, a little hard to understand cause of her accent, but I thought she was very good. Always willing to help you and if u do the homework it is an easy A.
This woman does not appear to have a compassionate bone in her body. Math isn't for everyone, but everyone has to take it, that's reality. What isn't realistic is expecting a human being to morph into a math superstar just to satisfy this woman's ego. If you understand math, no problem. However, if you struggle at all, forget Paek!

she isn't lenient with grading but does take a particular liking to students who already fully know the material. her accent is distracting but otherwise that's the only thing that made her unclear. focuses on easy parts of lectures. very picky with how you turn in your hw: stapled, labels, etc..
could hardly understand her broken english and testing schedule was 2-3 chapters per test.
Her accent is a little difficult to understand. Lectures are well organized. She is very demanding. However, she really does prepare you well for the next level math courses you will need to take to complete your GE requirements. In fact I think I learned more in this class than in Math 40! Do the homework and ask questions - she helps with answers
Very patient and understanding. A great teacher.
She is consistent and very helpful. You can get a good grade if you do your homework.
It was hard to understand her and when you ask for help she is confusing
great teacher, class was great she is very helpful! Has extra credit
This teacher is very heplful she understands that not all are math majors. i recommender her
fair teacher, i took her over the summer. she gave extra credit and if you do the homework and chapter reviews you will do fine on the test. i hate math and got an A
Cannot understand what she says, and when you ask a question she gets you more confused than you were in the beginning. Disorganized lectures. But she does give extra credit. Would NEVER take her class again
This class is recomended to students that really do like homework. If you master that quizez and tests are easy. There is a review sheet before tests and if you do it for extra credit you will see it on test and it will give you a passing grade at end of semester. I recommend her.
I honestly don't know what all of you guys are talking about. Her accent is VERY MINIMAL. Any normal human being can understand what she says, and she really pushes you to learn. I wish all my professors were as crystal clear with lectures, assignments, and results.
I thought this class was easy...Until I got my final grade; a C!! She gives a TON of homework (I'm not kidding), and I actually did it all. Problem is, hmwk is just a tiny fraction compared to exams. She does give extra credit though, but that still didn't help me...Bottom line, her grading system is extremely unfair
this class was hard at times from what I read her accent was a problem but i think it has improved now she just talks fast. Also do the HW&XC it'll make your life easier, and she allows copies instead of books if you don't have$$.But still the only reason I passed was because remembered everything from HS.
She is a little hard to understand at times. TONS OF HOME WORK!!! I did it in one day once (worst mistake) took 8 hours to do. Gives a little extra credit, but it's not enough to push your grade over. I would NOT take her again.
Besides the fact you can only undstand every other word it was an easy class. Do your HW and you will do fine on the tests. Really picking on grading though, grades everystep.
Not very talented in explaining the material, hardly any classwork to practice before leaving, accent hard to understand at times, not good connecting with the students at all. I will avoid her classes in the future by all means.
Worst teacher. Can not understand her. She repeats everything 100 times hw is a drag she is like having a 6th grade the way she treats the class. Demanding and talks to us like we don't understand anything.
Had Math 130 with her, she was one of the best math instructors I've had. You get past her accent after a while. Her lessons were very clear, and her style of teaching is perfect for visual learners. I never had to get outside help, and I'm pretty bad at math. Do NOT procrastinate on hw. Tests are based on review/hw questions.
Doesnt answer questions speaks quickly during notes and is hard to understand. she goes crazy when you dont understand or come even 2min late. she doesnt put up with students who dont understand the material, eventhough its her job to teach it to us. DONT TAKE.
AVOID!! Worst math teacher ever She goes to fast and gives way too much homework for almost no credit She does not explain the problems well and all her tests are hard with lots of trick questions whats worst she does not let you use a calculator during the test. If math is not your subject DONT TAKE HER SHE WILL RUIN YOUR LIFE THE WHOLE SEMESTER!
I absolutely hate math, however after taking her class I felt like I had a firmer grasp on the subject. She wasn't the worst teacher ever nor the best, but she did teach well...for the most part. Be prepared to put in work, this is not an easy A. She'll give you the grade you earned and won't round up. Studyyy, like seriously. Good luck! :)
She's a very good teacher, she explain everything that will appear on homework and test. She'll keep explain when you get confused. All the examples she gave was simple and clarify. It will be an easy A if you attend the class and do all the homework.
By far the worst professor I have ever had. She rushes through all the material. Doesn't go over problems more then once. Expects you to understand right away with no questions. She is rude and makes you feel like an idiot when you get bad test scores rather than trying to help. Her only goal is to finish the lessons even if you don't understand.
By far the worst math teacher ever she doesn't care about her students. She makes you feel dumb if you ask her a question. She is terrible a void taking she rushes through lessons not caring. Gives tons of hw on my math lab and quizes . Her test are hard and see pickey about details regret taking her .
She treated us like children. If you're gonna ask a question, she gets aggressive in her answer and is willing to make you say you understand when you really don't know what she said. Shes tough I dropped her she was lecturing way to fast.
Calculus is hard for non-math major. I'm good at math. For me the class is easy (A) but I also grade based on how were my classmates doing. Straightforward, test similar to assignment, so do homework!! Prof is so helpful but don't expect her work everything with you. This is Calculus! 4 exams and 1 final, be prepare to spend time with tutor at MLC
Because I took the class over the summer, it was slightly rushed and we were time crunched to do the hw. The class is decently easy if you spend time in the MLC, which she strongly recommends time and time again. She's an easy grader who gives a lot of points for show work tests even if you get answer wrong. Study the notes more than the homework.
Hate this teacher. By far not my favorite and would not recommend if you're taking calculus. Gives out lots of hw that gives u little credits, waste of time. Accent is weird. Test kills you hard if you dont do well on it so alot of studying. She goes over lecture so fast and u have to stay close to see her handwriting. Dont take her
By far the most unenjoyable class I've ever taken. She talks the entire class time, lectures are long. Things are repeated multiple times. A problem can be very simple but she makes it seem like rocket science. If you are unsure about something and you ask her, she will put you on blast to the whole class. She makes you look stupid. Never again.
Worst teacher i've ever had. If you struggle with math DO NOT TAKE HER. This class was a nightmare. No matter how hard I tried and no matter how many times i tried to get help from her it only made things worse. She grades test so harsh and she gives TONS of homework. Worst experience i've ever had with a math teacher.
Her lectures can be long and kinda boring but make sure to pay attention and take notes because her tests are very similar to the examples on the notes. Almost every week there was a quiz but you get to work with other people so it wasn't that bad. A lot of homework but they're easy points as long as their complete. Overall I would recommend her.
Professor Paek was a little hard to understand because of her accent. She was really nice and was clear in how she wanted her homework and tests to be done. Attendance was mandatory (she gives extra credit for 100% in attendance). Class was easy !!
Honestly should've trusted the reviews on here before taking her class. She is very hard to understand because of her accent, is too busy trying to get through her syllabus exactly to answer your in class questions, and she constantly asks "is that okay" after she does a problem but speeds to the next problem even if it isn't "OKAY!"
She is a good professor, but gives A LOT of hw. You must dedicate a lot of your time to the class work in order to pass. I've never had a math teacher who gave out a tremendous amount of hw. Extra credit is offered, but if you're like me you'll prefer getting actual work done & not having extra time for extra points.
She's a professor who cares about her students, teaches carefully and slowly for her students understand the lesson. She is organized and gives a lot of opportunities by giving extra credits. Her tests are not that hard, but what you studied will be expected on the test. Have a perfect attendance/no tardies, you will get an extra credit.
A LOT of homework! Be prepared to spend more than 8 hrs a week just for this class. Mymathlab questions sometimes do not correlate with lecture. Makes you print out your own lecture notes, so if you don't have them, good luck! Not a professor for people that struggle with math, she moves very quickly and expects you to understand immediately.
She is one of the best professor I have ever had. She gave us a lot of home work, but it is very useful. Moreover, she gave us a lot of extra credits. Its very easy to get high score in her class. She will let you fix your test with hafl credit you lost. That is great
A lot of homework but I love math so I feel okay. However, her explaining is not so well due to her accent, but she has her lectures posted after class so students can review if they're absent. Exam is hard for overall students
This prof has an accent which is hard to understand but you will get used to it. You don't need a textbook but you do need MyMathLab code for the online homework and quiz. Always come to class every day or you will miss every lesson. I recommended that you should study for every math problems. There are a lot of extra credits, so its better do it.
I really thought I wouldn't be able to do well in math, but turn out it was algebra was easy for me. She taught really well, has an accent which is hard to understand. In this class, you will need the following: MyMathLab, scantron and print out lecture notes. She also give out extra credit points on mymathlab, so its better earn those points.
Very straight forward teacher. Do the homework as you go along with the lectures. Pay attention and take good notes. MAKE SURE TO DO THE EXAM STUDY GUIDES! Very similar to the tests! They help a lot. If you do not have the basics of Algebra down, you will not do good in this class. Teacher is nice but blunt. Some may have trouble with her accent.
Professor is really dedicated to her class. She has a thick accent and that alone caused many of us to not follow at times. Gives ridiculous amounts of homework and it's worth basically no points. Approached about a question I had and she said I'd understand the material if I actually studied. I'm a usual B student. Really disheartening.
Really easy to not pay attention because of her thick accent. If you ask a ?, she calls you out for not understanding the material, and claims you need to study more. So dont ask ?s unless its rhetorical. Study guides were not similar to her exams. Then COVID-19 happened, and I made the mistake of not dropping. Fast paced, and zoom required.
Professor Paek is an amazing teacher. She really cares for her students and offers many extra credit opportunities. All you need to do is show up and pay attention. Her tests are very similar to the practice and review tests.
The only reason I am not giving her a '1' is because the way she mapped out canvas is quite easy to read through. And the fact that she has not made it mandatory to attend her zoom meetings. Not to be rude, but her accent is so heavy that it is difficult to understand what she is saying. Very frustrating when learning algebra.
Not to be rude, but her accent is so think that I have trouble understanding what she is saying. Which is not a great situation when trying to pick up something that can be as nerve wracking as math for some. Homework load was ridiculous, and I failed to look at this website before choosing her class which was a big no no. Do not recommend at all.
I would say this had to be the hardest class that I have had to take at cypress due to how difficult she is with grading. She deducts points for not doing assignments her way she also responds to emails in the most blunt way possible it even comes off as rude. She sends out emails threatening to drop students for not getting a certain grade as well
I don't know if you can give professors a 0 out of 5 rating, but if you could, I would've given her a 0. Never in my life have i had a teacher/professor this unbearable. She has a thick annoying accent, she gives way too much homework, and you'd save yourself if you stayed away from this horrible professor, ESPECIALLY if you have a job or kids.
She is the toughest grader I have ever had and I am usually incredibly thorough in my work. She also is not understanding if you have other obligations or sudden emergencies that you need to attend and will stick mark off points with minimal discussion. Lots of homework so you need A LOT of time management.
Professor Paek is a nice lady but she gives a lot of homework that doesn't really impact the grade. Don't understand why we needed to do homework every day & quizzes if it hardly counts on our grade. Class is mandatory but she doesn't really do much teaching. You have to watch another teacher's long confusing lectures. Her accent is fine btw.
She's terrible. She grades harshly on tests, quizzes, and homework. If it's not done her very specific ways, you'll be marked down regardless if you got the right answer. She doesn't care for family emergencies even if you tell her you're going to the hospital. Don't take this class. She's not sympathetic. Rude. Harsh grader. Unpleasant experience
If 0 was an option all my classmates would give her 0. If you have medical emergencies and have to miss class or test, you gotta accept a 0. She questions we never went over on quizzes and says "should have studied more". Doesn't care for the students at all and it's her way or you fail.
Her lectures are posted as videos bc she doesn't teach during meetings. If you have a question be prepared to feel incompetent bc she is not understanding and will blame you for not studying enough. Also, this class requires a lot of time bc there is a lot of hw given. Her accent is quite thick so you might have a hard time understanding her.
I had to drop this class because it was so bad, even when we only had a couple of weeks left. I felt like I could not pass even if I stayed. You have to watch her lectures and fill out the required notes in your free time. Class time is only used for answering questions on the homework, which is very heavy. Doesn't care for emergencies.
Difficult professor. Gives out a lot online hw and quizzes that takes a lot of time but doesn’t improve your grade. Exam practice takes days to finish. Be prepared to study more, study more, and study more as that is what she’ll say when asking for help.
The worst professor ever.
Professor Paek is really nice, but this can be a hard class. There is a lot of homework and quizzes to complete, but they only account for a small percentage of grades. Class grade is mostly done by Exams and Final Exam. She does teach well though, and offers extra credit for all tests which is a big help. If you do your work, you'll pass!
The professors teachings on her lectures are not that great, very unprofessional professor
this is a challenging class, I do not recommending taking this course if your math skills are not that great, her work Overload is insane
Be prepared to invest a lot of time into homework and studying. If you can not put in at least 8 hours a week to study and do the excessive amount of homework she gives do not take the class because it is a lot of work. In general you will need to invest an excessive amount of time into this class.
Out of the 40+ students, 9 remained when it was time to take the final... This class took up most of my time throughout the week due to the amount of homework, quizzes, and lectures. If you do decide to take this class, the exams are heavily based on the notes that she lectures on so make sure to study them a lot and way in advance.
Honestly not as bad as people say it was. You either got it or you don't, guess i just got it. she's also really nice and offered quite a bit of extra credit.
Be prepared to invest a lot of time in this class. I did well but I took calculus in high school. This class was easier than my high school class but I understand how it can be challenging, plus she isn't very considerate of her students. Lots of people dropped but she doesn't teach chain rule or trig sub, just the basic concepts of calculus.
i understood the material but with the amount of homework she was assigned, nearly 4 lessons a week and each lesson's videos were an hour long, I was overwhelmed and barely passed. not a hybrid class. a teach yourself class basically. this was the only class that fit my schedule.
this teacher is really hard and her class is very hard I barely passed her class and I would never suggest her for anyone! she doesn't care about her students, we started as a class of 30 and ended the semester with 6 students in her class everyone dropped that class.
The class overwhelmingly takes up most of your time as it's filled with so much homework and quizzes which only counted towards 10% of the grade. However the professor is generally nice, responds fast when you message her a question, offers exam corrections to boost your grade, and will try to give you partial points when you get a question wrong.
TAKE CALC AT FULLERTON CC INSTEAD with Prof Kenny, HER CLASS ONLY MEETS ON TEST DAYS, the rest is online, tho it looks like an in-person class on the schedule. By the last test day only 9 of the initial 32 students were there, if you already registered for Cypress cc you should be able to register for any class at Fullerton! DON'T TAKE HER TRUST ME
Although Professor Paek is really understanding with students, and makes an effort for her Office Hours, the heavy workload is so overbearing. I generally enjoy math, but there's so many different assignments within each unit time frame. WebAssign HW tends to get so much harder at the end, I had to scavenge the internet to find examples, so much HW
Worst experience with a professor for me. Avoid at all costs. I made a grave mistake not checking this website before I enrolled. Next to no point to showing up to class apart from gathering one of the many packets you need to take pictures of. Its almost like
Professor Paek is a super nice lady however her lectures can be difficult to follow. If you're taking her Math 141 class, I recommend relying more on the online lectures she posts on Canvas than on her lectures. You still need to attend her lectures to maintain participation credit.
Professor Paek is nice, but her material is hard to follow sometimes. She sometimes doesn't fully explain the problem in her lectures, so you may get lost if you don't know certain rules. She gives a lot of homework but it's only worth 10% of your grade and the exams are worth 65%.
Do yourself a favor and don't take her class if you can avoid it. She has a paired support class with MATH 130 and it's just extra work, absolutely nothing useful. The review edla's are like 20 problems long for no good reason. She also goes pretty fast so you're going to be teaching yourself. Good luck.
WAY to much hw. Test don't make sense. Outrageously unreasonable. Your answes never match HER criteria. Right answer=wrong answers. Expects you to know all the material. Doesn't teach thoroughly. Her lecture videos are unclear. She skips steps. She pulls numbers and rules out of thin air. 350 characters isn't enough to describe how awful she is.
Very nice teacher but calc is just a hard class. Its even harder when all the lectures are ONLY online through a Youtube video. HW heavy for little points. Its all just copying notes onto a packet given then, only come to campus for exams. Requires alot of self learning if not good at math. These exams cost 65% of the grade and theres 5 of them.
This class is all Exams... honestly don't recommend everyone ended up just dropping the class. I wish I could've taken this class elsewhere or even not at all.
Professor Paek's class is challenging, with a heavy workload of homework and quizzes. However, she is understanding and makes efforts during office hours. To succeed, engage with the material, utilize resources like unstuck AI, and stay on top of the work. The exams can be tough, but with dedication, a decent grade is achievable.
She overexplains sometimes but us students still struggle to grasp what she is actually saying. SO many assignments. Assigns stuff for her class but also adds on the MLC assignments for no reason. I was on top of my work but still felt drowned by the load. I had to rush through hw just to get it done, which limited me from learning the material.
let me tell you something, this professor is one of if not the worst math teacher I have ever had in my life. First of all, if you take the hybrid course like I am be prepared to not understand how she gets any answers in the examples. I would write more about how bad of a teacher she is if I could. DON'T TAKE HER CLASS IF U WANT TO PASS CALC.
Despite Professor Paek's rating on here I still took her class and got an A. Yes her class is challenging and it is a heavy workload packed with watching lectures, a lot of homework, quizzes and EDLA's but if you do the all work and ask her questions you will pass. She is one of the best math Professors I have taken and I would take her again.
This was for sure the hardest class I have take, I do not recommend this teacher, main reason being the workload. You will probably average about 2 hours of work a day, so 14 hours a week. She really is a kind person, however gives an unrealistic workload. I would recommend another teacher if you cant take someone else other classes need to be easy
I'll get straight to the point. Don't listen to the bad ratings regarding Professor Paek. She is great at teaching the material and simply doing the homework and practice exams will land you an A. However, you do need to put effort in this class. You can easily do all the homework for the week in 1-2 days as long as you use your time wisely.
