he is an intructor who will make physics understandable and interesting to you. do your job and study well enaogh then for sure you can pass the glass.
Seems good so far. Part of the fun of Physics is to compare it to everyday life, and Dr. Budarz seems to have that unique passion. I am relieved that he is the way he is, and not some crappy Physics professor that gets too cocky and doesn't make sense with anything. Syllabus seems great and I would definately reccomend the class to others.

Great class
numer uno(1) professora He is a number one phy professor in the world. he is smart and frandly.also he is very helpfull. If you realy want tolearn phy, I advise you to take his class.
Dr. Budarz is a great professor. He makes class fun and you can tell he really cares about his students. I 100% recommend him. And he's super cute to look at too!
He's challenging, but I learned a lot from him. Study the practice exams, because the test problems rarely resemble HW.
I thought this class was harder than 217 I can not say if that is because of the class or the teacher. I took Rutan at SCC for 217. I thought Budarz was very nice and friendly. I also thought he was a fair grader. His tests were purely theoretical with no numbers and no calculator. They were difficult but managable if you leanred the derivations.
He's a nice teacher, very helpful. If you understand clearly the problem. You can do it easily. Every problem he gives you, just do in 1/6 of a page. Easy.
He was a good teacher. easy going, funny, but he knows his stuff. just do all of the work and pass the one exam and youll get an A for sure.
I never took Physics, but I say 100% this guy is helpful as heck. Too bad I don't understand Physics that much. Chances are I will fail his class with a D also. But I have to say this guy is awesome. If you're an engineering major, go for it he's a very cool and relax guy. Very approachable. He try to read student's work and try to give points away
Very good teacher (interesting). He doesn't just teach how to plug into an equation and solve, he actually teaches physics for real life. A++ for Timo.
Awesome teacher, he talks a lot with tons of references to the subject. Although when you ask a question instead of answering with a simple answer he give you one that you would have to listen and pay attention to to understand. But nontheless,if your interested in learning he's interested in teaching.
Doc, I hope you're reading this. You have undoubtedly impacted my life. Thank you. To all his future students that are going to, or still thinking of, taking his class, I strongly urge that you do. You will absolutely learn physics and have a good time while doing so. Savvy prof with unparalleled combination of intelligence and lightheartedness. A+
Dr. Budarz was very helpful, keeps you interested in physics even if you hate it. Way to smart to be a teacher. One of the best professors Iv'e had. I highly recommend him. I'm leaving looking at the world in a whole new light.
Best porfessor ever! I never thought physics would be of my interest until I took this class with him. He keeps lectures interesting. He's fair, and cares about his students. He definitely applied physics to everyday life. Take this or any class with him, you wont regret it.
Very knowledgable. Tests are detailed. Grading makes you somewhat unsure of your grade, but I suppose you should take initiative and find out for yourself. Lab is fun, lab writeups not so much. But by no means difficult. Lecture during summer is way too long, and physics isnt really my thing. My attention definitely wandered, but not his fault
Dr. Budarz is fantastic. He uses real life examples to make the material more understandable. Physics can be intimidating, but it turned out to be extremely interesting, largely in part due to the instructor!
Hated lecture. Studied on my own from the book and online and got a B. Lab is easy. Seems like a nice guy, likes to go off topic. Lots of stories... Weekly homework and quizzes from homework.
His lecture is very boring and not clear, explained, comprehensible. I didn't take any physics class untill his and I learned nothing. If you've already taken any form of physics class and you did ok then take him. It will be super easy for you. But, if you didn't then, you'll learn nothing and still get B. Also you just want to pass then take him
This professor was totally into himself. Physics examples always related to himself. You should have some basic programming knowledge for this class because he assumes it. He's a pretty fair grader, considering how cocky he was about his own genius.
He's one of my best Science professors so far! very knowledgeable, very approachable. He really prepares you for engineering major. if you can survive then you are definitely ready to go Physics or Engineering!
Timo is a good teacher but a lot of times he doesn't have anything to talk about. He wastes half the class a lot of times waiting for students to finish a problem. The lab is hard. Also when he doesn't have any lab to do he makes you program in VPython for extra credit. Then he says that it's mandatory and is almost 10% of your grade!
He is a great professor!! How much is taken away from his class really depends on the individual student. If you take advantage of the book and the lectures he gives you will learn a ton. But if you do not really care and put in very little effort well... you will probably still pass because he is such a nice guy! Very knowledgeable too.
Physics is HARD there's no better professor for this subject than Timo. He helps a lot especially during office hours. Don't be fooled by the bad reviews he is fair and if you can't handle the subject then consider switching majors. Overall he's young and energetic and is always willing to help.
Fairly good at teaching physics; provides examples that expose the non intuitive parts of physics. The V-python programming portion of the class seemed unnecessary and didn't add much to my physics learning experience other than countless hours and hours and hours and hours and hours of programming that as a non-CS major seemed excessive
I had absoletly no background in physics and started out feeling extremely overwhelemed, but Prof Budarz is SUPER approachable and a really good guy which totally helped ease the pain of the subject. My advice is to get 10's on all the quizes and study the Assesments posted on blackboard before the tests.
timo inspires the world of physics, he makes the world more intresting. my favorit class ever
Very approachable for questions, practice tests avaliable online as well as all the powerpoints. Questions are welcomed and clarification on a point is easy to get. Makes physics more interesting than I ever thought it was.
he's a great professor! very energetic, funny, and smart. he's really a person of physics. physics is a complicated subject, but he makes physics become more easier and understandable. he teaches us how to look the world in the view of physics. attending his class is very important to get a lot of good knowledge. you would get an A if you study. i
GREAT! if you are a major in physics, then you would definitely take him at SAC. it's the best class ever in my life. So interesting in physics, the Prof is so supper smart! NO OTHER PLACES BETTER THAN "TIMO" HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! HE'S EASY, YOUNG, AND HE KNOWS WHAT HE TEACH. SUPPER COOL CLASS. ANY SCIENCE STUDENT SHOULD HAVE TO TAKE HIM!!!!!!!!!!!!!
GREAT PROF. SUPPER SUPPER INTERESTING CLASS. YOU WOULD DEFINITELY TAKE HIM FOR PHYS, NO OTHER PLACES BETTER THAN HERE. EXTREMELY HELPFUL, EASY. HELP YOU SUCCESS IN ENGINEERING MAJORS. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!!!HAVE TO TAKE HIM FOR PHYSICS ENGINEERING!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Timo is the man! This guy opened my eyes with his Vpython project at the end. Now everywhere daily occurence I see I see it in terms of physics. the guy is a total G!
Fun professor, interesting guy but don't be disarmed by his easygoing attitude. Tests are an unpredictable mix of lecture and textbook problems. He is great at giving you that "new perspective" that physics people talk about, but remember that it's on you to know the material for tests. The numerical/computational methods stuff is fun & useful.
Funny, making lecture interesting to listen to. Willingly explained any questions I had, even enjoyed them. Tests are pretty hard, mix from book, lecture, and lab material. Required to remember equations. He has low total points, so try to finish all assignments if you want decent grade (e.g. lose 10 on 50 is huge %). Grade on curve.
Sac science/engineering students are very lucky when it comes to physics.
DR. Timo is great, his lab class was easy and very intriguing. he looks like one of his students but don't let that fool you. as young as he looks he knows his stuff. fun class great professor
Do the opposite of what he tells you to study for: If he says exam will be on Lecture notes, study HW...and visa versa.
Dr.Budarz is awesome! i was so scared bc ive never taken physics before but he makes it interesting and understandable. it ended up being the hardest class i have ever taken but he's a very nice (and funny) teacher and will help you every step of the way. very approachable guy. do yourself a favor and take him. you wont regret it. :)
Dr. Timo is cool, he makes you interesting in Physics. For those who are major in physics, you guy should take him, no other places know well about physics than him. HOWEVER, exams are challege and fair. You can't study from old exam > that's why you will get what you are supposed to! Very good class! Prepare you for upper levels in physics!!!!
great professor, I had not taken physics in about 15 years!, Go to lecture, write up your lab reports and do your homework. I thought the class was very interesting and not that hard at all. Ended up with an A (in summer!!)
Very hard, Very good. Expects you to spend good time understanding concepts / theories. On top of that, Lab will expect you to know how to apply them. Expect it to be a very hard class, but he curves very fairly so the grades were always how well I did compared to my classmates. I recommend studying alot for homework quizzes, they are a big deal.
He gives you a sense of how an upper division class is. Exams are challenge. Interesting lectures, very understandable, smart guy, know his stuff well & and beyond physics too! He knows well Chem, Math, Engineering>> Extremely nerd guy man, but didnt look nerd!!! Love his teaching style, he wants you to understand rather than grading. Must take him
I hope you (Dr.Budarz) would read this comment: Your teaching is awesome and I appreciate it. The only thing I hope you would reconsider is the lab part. You should have your lab handouts ready for us to prepare and read before come to the lab. Your labs should be more details like you can create charts, tables, things needed to be fill out. Thanks
Great Physics instructor that makes lecture interesting by providing alot of examples of how physics applies to real life. It's crazy how quickly he comes up with examples. Really intelligent professor and nice too. Study hard for the tests and do the homework. This was one of my favorite classes.
Professor Budarz is a great teacher. I was rusty on my calculus and he was extremely helpful. He is amazingly knowledgeable in more than just physics. He is fair at grading also, sometimes it is hard to see because of the curving. The only thing I would have liked to see would be more examples. Other than that I would completely recommend him. I also loved his relations from life experiences to physics.
Dr. Budarz is the best professor that SAC can ever have. He is really concerned about students understanding the material and often gives real world examples to make learning the best experience. He is very approachable and you can discuss about anything and be sure to get a valuable opinion in return. I highly recommend him and his wisdom.
Not so great at explaining
A class with Dr. Budarz will make you feel bad about yourself, mostly because he is more intelligent than you will ever be. He is funny, impossibly knowledgeable, fair and can speak physics like a language. Work hard and you will be rewarded; do the homework and practice tests! Reading the book helps too :)
Can be a tough subj, but not impossible. Lectures are always entertaining. He loves physics and it is obvious, very intelligent man. Tip: do hw and get 10s on your quizzes. Exams can be brutal, its all MC. Labs are simple and easy, grading is more than fair.
SAC is really lucky to have budarz! he can definitely teach at a university. take him if you really want to learn. best professor ever!
Phenomenal teacher, very difficult but he loves learning and inspires students to stay curious
20% HWquizzes, 10% reading quizzes, 30% lab reports, 30% exams(3 exams-10% each), 10% vpython programming language presentation. Physics background strongly recommended. He wants you to be sections ahead of him (reading) I say be chapters ahead of him. Tough course but grades on a curve. ask around(students) for past exams they really help
Doesn't care for his students. Lectures are not mandatory. You can get a good grade without going to lecture. Don't fall behind in this class. Put on the effort and you should be fine. Professor could do a better job in explaining the lecture. Take Rutan at SCC instead. His teaching is way better.
He acts like he cares, but in reality he doesn't care for his students. Take someone else if you can. I don't recommend him. Overall, good learning experienced. Readers, keep in mind that teachers can delete comments from this site. So be careful about what you comment.
He is a great professor; I had him for 3 semesters. He knows his physics extremely well. He is very approachable and has good patience. He will explain something different ways until you understand, if necessary. His lectures are generally entertaining. His tests can be a challenge, but he gives other ways to earn points, if you put forth effort.
OMG Budarz is back. Take him if you want to study on your own. Sits in front of the lecture class and just reads the power point slides without giving examples or explanations of the material. I think I want to be a professor now. lol.
People who are getting a C in Dr. Budarz's classes definitely know more than someone out there who got A. Take him, he will give you knowledge. also, waiting to be fed is not a good attitude, and you will find a difficulty moving on University.
Dr B knows his physics well and does a fair job explaining it to his students. The pace of the material is really impacted by the students group mentality and desire to learn. In other words, Dr B can teach a lot very well if the students push the class forward as a whole. Read, do your homework, ask questions, you get out what you put in.
He is a great professor. If your major is engineering I recommend you take him because he gives you the knowledge that will benefits you in a long run. Material can be challenging but it's worth it. Take him. He is also very helpful in office hour if you do not understand anything
Such a great professor. He's so smart and helpful. His class is hard but fun. No pain no gain but don't worry, He's an easy grading guy and he curves a lot. Note: do NOT cheat even if you only look at your friend's work, he's really strict about this. Anyways you'll learn a lot from his classes. WELL WORTH SPENDING YOUR VALUABLE TIME :)
He is a hard teacher. He makes you earn your grade. If you get a C in his class the knowledge you learned is like getting an A. If you take this guy you better be prepared to study study study.
Do not take him. He is hard people in my class were retaking him, if you need physics 217 take it at SCC or somewhere else. The amount of hw is insane. He will email you at 12 in the night saying you have a quiz in the morning. If you do take make sure to read the book and memorize every single word. I got a "B" but the work I did was for and A.
His lectures are very energetic and funny, and has a great grasp on physics. He is very enthusiastic about the students learning, and will present you the ability to learn many new things, from physics to programming. However, I found his planning to be poor. HW, Quizzes, readings, etc, were usually assigned the class before.
Make sure you understand the material DON'T memorize steps. His test are hard if you don't understand the concept. Read the book, study, and study some more.
Here are a few positive aspects about Budarz: very knowledgeable, funny guy... that's about it. Here's all the bad: POOR POOR Planner, text book (Schaum's, 3rd ed.) used is replete with grammatical and technical errors, lectures are poorly planned and are scattered. I wish there were other professors at SAC that taught physics.
Honestly, one of the best professors at SAC, I don't understand why people here are complaining about the difficulty of the class. It's the core foundation of the rest of their major prep. If you're taking an engineering physics course, except it to be hard. Dr. B is really helpful, and I really think he wants his students to succeed in his class.
If you do not understand somethings, just using office hours as your benefits. In addition, reading book and doing homework are keys to raise your grades. Exam is not hard when you clearly understand physics. However, he is one of the best professor at SAC. He wants his students to be successful.
Awesome teacher. he is very personal and very knowledgeable. it is obvious he loves teaching and physics. he chose a very cheap textbook to help us save money. I paid something like 28 for a brand new one. I do not consider myself to have more than average intelligence and I am getting an A. I study about 4 hours a week for his class .THANKS DR. B!
Very good instructor and a cool guy too. One of the best professors I've ever had for sure.
He's one of the best at SAC. If you're going to Engineering, taking him for your advantages. 227 is difficult, so do not complain that the exam is tough.
I would not take him if you are concerned about your GPA or if you have trouble with somebody not going through a lecture in an organized way. Forget note organization, and get ready to try and follow along his explanation of doodles on top of doodles.
highly recommend you not taking him. His lecture is really poor and sloppy. He skipped the information and didn't give us the reasonable answers. He usually updated the information in geogebra before quiz or exam day. He expect us to know everything about how physics is physics.
Really enjoyed his class. Super laid back guy, one of the smartest people I've ever met. He knows everything. Honestly students who complain about his class are just not putting in enough effort. It's physics, not art history, and Budarz is a lot easier than most other physics professors.
Dr. B knows what he is teaching, getting it across to the class is a different story. If you give him feedback he'll make an effort to help you understand so ask questions! He is messy on the board so keep track of what work goes for what problem. He could also be more organized with his online book, he updates it at random times. But he does care
Budarz is a great teacher for those who are willing to push themselves. Material wise the class isnt easy so u will need to spend alot of time studying and actually know the material. The good thing is budarz is willing to stay after class and work with you specifically until you get comfortable with the material if you arent able to understand
This class isn't easy, but Dr. B always makes time to help his students and its worth it. He shows you how to apply physics in your day to day life rather than just memorizing a couple equations. You have to study, don't assume you can pass the class without it. He's great help so never be afraid to ask questions and take advantage of office hours!
Great teacher. Budarz likes answering questions and having discussions with the class. He's easy to get along with. The material is tough so if you get stuck just ask questions or go to office hours and he'll always help you out. Fair grader. Interesting labs, but some of them take a while to program with Geogebra. Def recommend
My major is biology, but I accidentally ended up taking all of his engineer-preparing physics classes. Nevertheless, I am grateful of this accident. Because of his classes, I study less for physics of the MCAT exam. Overall, his classes are tough, but he'll help you along(if you ask). He'll make you cry, but you'll be well-prepared after his courses
You need to keep up with the class topics and make sure to write down all class examples. Also, reading before class will allow you to follow class discussion much better and ask questions you may have on the homework.
Dr.B isn't those boring physics teacher that only give you equation and tons of hw. He always make you interact with physics through geogebra, labs, and examples, so you can understand the concepts. He ALWAYS there to help so come during office hours. if you interest in physics or engineer then take him, you will learn alot of great things !
Dr. Budarz is a very knowledgeable professor but he is unorganized with his lectures. When he writes on the board it looks like doodle, you can't tell where he started or ended. I recommend you take physics at SCC cause budarz will only confuse you.
Dr. Budarz is a great professor, his class throws the phrase "when are we ever going to use this outside of school" out the window. His lectures are exciting due to all the real life applicable examples he uses. He is always there to help you in or outside of class. I learned a multitude of useful things that will prep me for my engineering degree!
Dr. Budarz is a perfect example of someone that cares about students learning the material. His class is a bit difficult but is a perfect example of a top tier university class. He prepares you for the future effectively. You have to work hard but it is worth every minute at the end of the semester. He is my favorite teacher bar none.
Dr. B is truly an exemplary professor. His motto, "make physics your own" sums up his teaching method and philosophy. The lectures and labs incorporate real world applications, which make you think critically. A challenging course and instructor no doubt, however he prepares students for the university level and more importantly life after.
Take Budarz at your own risk. Doesnt even teach. You have to learn on your own by simply reading the book. Goes over 1 example during 2 hours of lecture. Goes off topic. Messy writing on the board. Bad and brief explanations to problems. Always eating in class. Avg test score is an F for everybody in the class. Uses his own book w/ grammar errors.
I took Budarz during my Junior College years. I am now at Cal Poly studying engineering. I can only say this... Budarz is a genius compared to these professors. If you want your hand held the whole semester, then don't take Dr B. He doesn't make the material and the exams difficult, nature does. The students that complain never put in the effort.
Timo helped me become a better student and allowed me to grasp the difficult concepts of the class. He's passionate, cares for students, and might be the most intelligent person I've met. Ask for help and study, and you'll pass and come out a better student on the other side. Not to mention the guy is really cool and connects with his students.
The best professor that I have ever had. Ive learned so much from his class. He is very inspirational. The class itself is very difficult, but its just the nature of things to be difficult. Keep trying, learning and challenging your self, you will learn a lot from his class!
