Man, the dude was the original lead guitarist for The Lemmonheads...enough said
The class is so boring but he makes it interesting; he's hilarious and very approachable, take a class with him for an easy A.
One of the most patient and interesting professors this side of the Raritan. Take any classes taught by Prof. Brennan. You'll be happy that you did!
this guy is really funny and very easy going. he makes the material understandable and interesting. its very easy to get an A in the class if you go to his lectures, he's a very lenient grader. take any class with him.
Funny guy. I do not go to lectures, but I will end up with a high B or an A. I wish I knew he gave extra points toward quiz grades in the lectures right after quizes, because I'd be in a nicer position. Good pick if you want a decent grade.
It's very easy to get a good grade. Prof Brennan is nice, funny, and very willing to hand out extra points, even if the quizzes were easy. I don't understand how people can do badly in this course. Take this class if you need a grade booster.
he is the man. easy as hell
This guy is nuts, I love him. Take his classes
I'm taking this class now, and am sorry to say that all of the reviews bellow are no longer valid. Apparently, the department complained about him gibing out too many A's last year, so he beefed up his quizes to an alarmingly high difficulty level. Questions coming out of no where, very hard, easy C
I agree the dept had to be getting upset about easy grading because C is the highest I can obtain and I study the matieral yet questions come out of no where.Nice guy though!
I came here to say the same thing as the last 2 ppl. I study a lot and have a C+ to show for it. Going to class actually worked against me bc he kept saying "when it doubt, the answer is characterized by" then on the quiz, that was the wrong answer!! Nice enough guy, but he def changed his quizzes
ALL the good reviews are no longer VALID!!!! He is a NICE guy but his exams are VERY difficult for a 100 level course. Like most of the students taking this course, it has no revlence to my major. i took it as a Graduation Requirement& barely getting a C. He is a NICE guy but he is quizes are HARD!!
all you people are twits. word power is like the easiest class, and tcbr is so funny and nice. he gives you a practice quiz and half of the actual quiz comes from it, not to mention if you argue with him about a question, he will just give everyone the points for it. ridiculously easy.
TCB is effing AWESOME. Hes so cool and funny, hes my fave! Just as long as you come to class and pay attention there's no way you shouldnt at the very LEAST get a B. Just take notes on what he stresses, and study the practice quiz (which comes with answers) and you should be fine.
TCB is my favorite Rutgers prof--ever. I'm so glad that I got to have super intelligent and hilarious instruction my last semester.
Really nice professor, very funny and helpful. Although lectures are boring sometimes he gives free pts just for showing up. Going to lecture the days before there are quizzes are key because he gives hints as to what will be on the quiz. There are 4 quizzes and 1 final all made up of 25 qs.
the class is difficult at times but if you go to class he gives you extra credit points randomly and def look over the quizzes he sends you. he is the FUNNIEST man i know and while it was boring it was worth taking. stick with it. dont drop it
i had no idea what was going on cause I skipped class and was really hard to catch up. its kinda hard but he gives out mad extra credit for no reason and his review stuff is what saved me. he's a good professor, it's more the subject that sucks. but I got an A or b+, I forget, and I was completely lost so I don't know what to say its hard but easy
A great kinda quirky prof, lively lectures, makes the most dull passages of herodotus stand out. Take him!
Quirky is the perfect term, exactly how I thought college professors all should be, really nice too, went to almost every class, didnt read the books, didn't study, didnt take notes (he sends them to you) got B+ wingin it but extra credit brought me up to A---just a great professor though so take him---also he was the guitarist for the lemonheads
Don't have to show up at all and you'll still get a C. Course is designed so that anyone can pass it. Great entertainer, love the WWF analogies and stories. Go just because he's hilarious.

HE is a nice, clear, and easy professor. Recommend this class to everyone!!
Best TEACHER!!! Gives out mad extra credit...his exams are 30 questions and its really easy. The class argued with him on the difficulty and he threw out 5 questions lol. out of about 200 kids in the class 195 got A's.
Ranks amongst the best professors i have ever had...Our class loved him, works with the students, exams come from lectures and notes, I would recommend him to any student without reservation!
Genuinely good teacher...one of the few at Rutgers I have any respect for...Take his class
Such a lenient grader. You can argue points and he gave out 6 extra credits. The class was actually somewhat interesting with a bunch of Harry Potter references and random tangents like "tribade" (look it up).
TCB is a great professor. Class is not mandatory but it helps a lot for exams if you attend. He is very helpful and is a genuinely good professor. Highly Recommended!
Best prof ever, can make the most boring material interesting. also goes out of his way to make sure everyone gets a good grade and e-mails you the class notes.
Wow! So he's leaving Rutgers - big shocker there! He was one of my favorite profs. Wish I had had more like him!
Loves him!!!
Great teacher! Was very motivated about the topic of ancient Greek civilizations. He also gave a lot of help as well through study guides! I never read Herodotus or Thucydides and got out of the class with a B+. Expect to put some effort in if you want a higher grade.
LOVED HIM. He was easily my favorite professor at Rutgers. Went to class 5 times and got a B+ because I studied. Read what he asks and you'll do great.
very nice and quirky dude. not as easy as everyone says, but there is a huge curve. midterm = 30% final = 40% paper = 30%. relatively easy A. going to class semi-useless
Brennan is a great guy and SO FUNNY! Go to class just to hear him talk, it's very entertaining. Attendance is not mandatory and the actual tests are a bit hard but he curves them!
Great Professor who really wants his students his students to succeed. If you read, go to class and study, this class should an A for you. However, his exams can be very specific. He tells you specifically what he wants you to study but make an effort to understand as much as you can.
What a guy. I put in minimal effort and got a B+. One of the least deserved B+'s I ever got because I deserved like a C. He's a funny and friendly guy with a great attitude towards a typically boring subject. Attendance is pointless. To get an A is pretty tough though. Read what he says to read and then some. Exams are specific. Easy B+, tougher A.
One of the nicest professors I've had. He tries to make everyone not only pass but do better than they should! You have to go to class and take notes everyday and read the book if you want an A , but reading can always wait until a few days before the exam. I got an A and honestly only the students who go get the A simple as that!
An excellent professor. Class isn't mandatory but it really helps to clarify the dense readings. Very helpful and clear on what he expects you to know for the exams. Take this class with him!
Really, really good professor. I didn't attend a lot of lectures this semester, but the class follows the syllabus completely and it was very easy to catch up. It's an easy class to get a B+ in; I had to work a little harder to get an A. Definitely take this class. He's got a great sense of humor and is always ready to give you any extra help.
Awesome Professor! If you do the textbook readings you will be fine. I got an A without reading Herodotus or Thucydides. Take him if you can.
Great professor! Material is not difficult however, it's important that you keep up with the readings. He only requires one book and the rest are found online for free. He's extremely nice and very approachable. He definitely knows his material and loves questions. Attendance is not taken but it's easy to lose track of class information.
This class is easy if you put the effort into it. Keep up with his readings and make sure you study them for exams. His exams are pretty straight forward. Prof Brennan is extremely passionate about the subject and makes class interesting.
Really easy class and a nice professor! Literally went to class for exams and never went during the entire semester and still got a B+. If you read the book you should get an A. Make sure you know the Greek terms and definitions from the reading. Definitely a gpa booster.
Very enthusiastic guy, loves subject. I didnt care about the material but he still managed to hold my attention most of the time. It's easy to get a B, but its harder to get an A because his exams can be very specific. Knowing the passages he asks about and memorizing key terms is a good starting point but anything he mentions is also fair game.
Corey is awesome. Most times he does get off-topic but if you follow, you'll find yourself learning along the ride. Exams are straightforward, study the terms and answer the multiple choice questions. He's an expert on the field, so make sure to ask him questions if you have any. Reading isn't necessary but it helps a bit if you feel lost. Goodprof
I get the impressions that Brennan is very knowledgeable but because of the format of the class it seems that this knowledge is not being passed on. Nobody shows up to class and it seems he doesn't even care. The class could easily be incredibly entertaining and educational, but because of the format, it doesn't achieve what it could.
Brennan is such a sweet man and he's so passionate about what he studies. I really couldn't care less about the papacy so I held off a lot of the work but he doesn't take off points for lateness. A lot of the lectures were filmed on location in Rome which made it more interesting. Practice exams are posted and they're almost exactly the real exams.
Easiest Interdisciplinary Honors Seminar ever. Most laid back, chill teacher that I've ever had. Definitely would recommend for any class, such as Roman Civ.
Nice guy and easy class. As long as you study the past exams you should be fine. two exams and one 5 page paper.
He is really passionate about this subject. You should attend most classes. He provides several resources to help with exams. Super nice and he is funny.
Professor Brennan is a truly caring professor that wishes for all of his students to succeed. He has two exams throughout the semester, which are both non-cumulative as well as a 5 page paper, which he grades easily if you put in effort and don't PLAGIARIZE. Easy A class, but make sure you know the content. Has a generous grading curve.
Professor Brennan is awesome! He is incredibly knowledgable about the classes he teaches and the roman civilization class is a great class if you have any interest in the classics. He covers a variety of topics in the course and has clear grading criteria. The class isn't too difficult if you regularly attend lectures and read the assigned passages
Brennan is the bomb. Went to class a total of three times (left early for 2 of them) and ended with an A. He gives you 2 exams and a paper the exams are 80% like the practice exams he give you. Lectures are fun and you can tell he really cares about the subject. Super funny guy.
If you ever watch the Rutgers Snap Stories, he's the prof who's lying down on the floor every once in a while. Went to only a couple lectures but he has a solid curve on exams and his exams are 60% based on his past ones (which he posts for you). Basically take this class if you need SAS core recs (like me) or a GPA booster
There is a paper and two exams which your grade is made up of, he gives practice exams which make up a solid 75-80% of the exam he gives in class. It's most definitely an easy B/ B+ class, to get that A would require a little more effort. Brennan is a very passionate, sweet guy! Definitely take it, it covers 2 SAS core requirements.
Midterm, final, and final paper on anything you want roman related. I never went to class, I never got the books, and I studied his previously tests the day of the exams, and ended up with a B+ in his class. Easy B, harder A, but worth it for never going to class.
I took his roman civ class to fulfill the RU history core. I really enjoed the class; the readings are important and he tells you which ones to focus on for the exams. It's two exams and a paper. The paper is super hard to fail, and he gives you like 5 practice exams to use to study. Def take the class if you can. Learned a lot and very intresting
Amazing, funny, caring, eager, accessible professor. two exams and a paper. He tells you exactly what you need to know to get an A. Nice curve. Go to class, listen and take notes. Highly recommend for any class. Don't have to do the readings, but they help if you feel lost. Best professor I've ever had. Interesting lectures too.
This man... OH, THIS MAN!! He is PURE AMAZINGNESS! WILL NEVER TREAT YOU LIKE TRASH! WILL LOVE YOU EVEN IF YOU SKIP (YOU SHOULDN'T)! GOOGLE HIM, HE'S FAMOUS. IN A BAND. WENT TO HARVARD. HAS BEEN IN MULTIPLE DOCUMENTARIES. IF CLASS IS SLEEPY, HE QUICKLY GETS EVERYONE'S ATTENTION BY BEING SILLY! HE ROLLED ON THE FLOOR ONCE AND RAN UP & DOWN THE ROOM!!
BEST Professor ever. Lenient, nice and funny. Don't have to do any of the readings to get an A. Gives you the midterm and final questions beforehand ( a week before actual exam). No surprises. Very interesting lectures, learned a lot. Easy A class, minimal work.
Brennan is awesome. Roman Civ consists of a midterm, a final, and a paper. He posts practice tests for the exams that have 80% of the questions that are going to be on the exams, so all you need to do is study those. Never went to class and got an A. Don't worry about the paper cuz you're allowed to write about literally anything and he grades easy
This prof is literally the best man ever. His lectures are awesome and he is hilarious. Really this is one of those classes where it was just an absolute treat to sit in and learn about.
Super easy professor. He puts the midterms and finals from previous years on sakai, so all you have to do is study those and do the one 5 page paper. He's hilarious to listen to in class, but if you don't have a lot of time you can skip class and still get an A as long as you learn the materials. I also took G&R Athletics and he's the same for both
Any chance you have to take this professor, take him without question. His lectures for Roman Civ weren't super interesting, but his charming personality and humor makes up for it. His exams are easy - just read the nota bene passages and take the practice exams posted on Sakai. Attending class not necessary but I would recommend since he's so fun.
Easy AND interesting course. He is a super warm guy and cares about his students. Definitely recommend.
One of the best professors at RU. Easy, straight forward and funny. Didnt attend many lectures but enjoyed the ones I did. At first you will get overwhelmed with the practice exam questions but it literally takes 2 hours of studying to get an A. He repeats almost all the questions from his previous exams and they are very easy.
Very nice guy and makes the class super easy. Live lectures but gets off topic and on long tangents, also throws a ton of information at you and idk what is needed for the exams. Exams are long but open book and he gives you old tests as reference. 75% of your grade is based on a final, presentation, and paper which are all due in the last 2 weeks
TAKE THIS CLASS. You will not regret it! Professor Brennan is such a great teacher. He is so passionate about what he teaches and wants everyone to pass. His class is based on a midterm, final exam, and final paper on a topic of your choice. Exams are simple because he gives you sample questions. Go to his lectures they're super interesting!
Amazing, very kind and funny professor. Just study previous midterms/finals and you will be fine for exams. Readings are not necessary to do but are interesting and helpful. Just go to class and pay attention as he is very entertaining and passionate about roman history. Will always share personal anecdotes too, making the class really fun.
Ive never been so inspired to give a professor a great rating before the semester has even ended, but Professor Brennan has genuinely impressed me beyond belief. I have despised Latin and only took it as a requirement. Brennan has made me look forward to class every week. He is kind, hilarious, incredibly intelligent and overall my favorite prof.
Professor Brennan is a real gem and makes me proud to be a part of the Classics department. He genuinely cares about his students and wants to see them all succeed. His Roman Civ course is easy so long as you study the materials -- Quizlets are useful here. The course is one midterm, one final, and one final paper, all of which are very manageable.
The best professor I've had at Rutgers and it's not even close. He's that special mix of animated, informative, engaging, inquisitive, and fair with a logical and flexible class structure that students think they can only dream of. Even if you're not a classics major I highly recommend taking a class of his for a requirement or just for credit.
Brennan knows his stuff and lectures with so much passion. The material itself is interesting, and you are asked to buy a book or two (not mandatory but recommended), and the exam(s) has a heavy curve. There's a video project too which is easy. Honestly, the class is easy and a blast, just memorize the practice exam posted in canvas for an easy A.
Course is based on a midterm, final paper, and final. Reuses a lot of questions from past exams (about 70% of the exam). He is really passionate about what he is teaching but sometimes he gets off topic and talks a lot about stuff that won't be covered in exams. Heavy curve so no one actually fails. Good to take if you're interested in Roman Civ.
One of the best professors you will ever have. Incredibly responsive and easy to reach outside of class. For the midterm and the final, use the previous practice exams to study AND USE THE LOEB CLASSICAL LIBRARY FOR THE PAPER!
Your entire grade is dependent on 3 things, midterm (30%), 5 page paper (30%), final (40%). Barely attended lectures and new close to nothing about the topics covered but still managed to get an A. Prof. posts past midterms/finals which are very similar to what you will see on the actual exams. Also curves the exams a lot to make sure no one fails.
Extremely passionate about this topic and very kind towards students. Attendance isn't mandatory, but skipping class too often may be your downfall as he posts practice exams which share a good amount of questions, but will not cover everything. His only real flaw is that the whole class is graded on 2 exams and a paper, but the class isn't hard.
This is not an easy A; an easy B+ 100% tho. If you want that A, you'll need to study for his exams and confer with him to write a good paper. The final average was 87 for the class; you needed a 90+ to get an A. It shows that the average person has a B+ rather than an A. You'll need to work above average for an A.
The class was extremely light, just make sure you do you go through each practice test very carefully. ALL THE TEST QUETSIONS ARE ON THE PRACTICE TEST. ONLY A FEW 30% are not on it
Class is entertaining. Many people skip lecture but the material was so interesting that I personally did not miss a class. I was expecting to be learning about battles and other events but the class is mostly about the culture of the Roman people.
Prof. Brennan was a fantastic professor. The course wasn't difficult; there were no assignments, just a midterm and a final that were super easy since they mostly contained questions from the practice midterms and finals he gave out before the exam. I would definitely recommend taking the class.
Did not show up even once and ended with a 96, take if you ever get the chance
One of the best professors i have ever come accross. genuinely one of the most nicest people you will ever meet. I did not go to roman civ a lot fo times, but now i have started going and i wish i never skipped a class. He is probably the best professor at rutgers. 10000/100 for the professor. goated.
He is HILARIOUS. If people were scared to answer a simple question, he literally laid down on the floor. He grades pretty easy, and he's also fun to talk to outside of class if you get a chance. He's a great professor, very understanding if you're someone who is struggling with mental health, and overall a very respectful guy! I recommend him 100%
Pretty great overall; he's extremely passionate about the material (+funny), although his lecturing style is a bit disorganized, and you absolutely have to go to the lectures to learn any of the content. The exams are extremely easy if you go to the lectures, and don't buy the textbook! He usually posts the passages in a pdf on Canvas.
I went to half the classes and got an A. He grades the paper super lightly (just don't use ai) and the tests (50 mc) he curves generously. He also gives a test bank for the test (50% of the questions). When I overslept the final by 1.5 hours he let me take it even though he already put away the test. Wonderful professor.
did not show up and got 94. just study some material before the exams
Goated professor, keep in mind you do have to study to pass this class (not a free A like you'd assume but easy material). Do practice exams, they cover a lot of the actual exam material. Essay is super generous and is about a third of your grade. Easy to skip lectures and still get an A. Guaranteed B+ (probably) if you put in any effort.
Not worth your time.
Too much work.
