Professor Harrington was one of the best teachers I had at Santa Fe! His class was interesting because he encourages students to make comments and debate current issues in class. He is extremely helpful and clear in what he expects. Quizes and tests are easy if you study. Very understanding and knows what he's talking about. Take his class :)
Professor Harrington was one of my favorite teachers so far. He is clear and concise, and he really encourages students to debate topics. He really enjoys his job, and you can tell by the way he teaches and treats his students. I thoroughly enjoyed his class, even though I'm not one for politics, he really made the material fun. Take his class!
Slow to start off but once he figured out our personalities the class really started to react. The material is boring for some [half of the class never talked] but for others it's fun to talk about the structure of our government. It's important to know too. He graded fairly and is very interested in the subject which is inspiring.
Mr. Harrington rocked! The class was boring at some points, but at the end he made it amusing. If you have to take a government class I would definitely take it with him. You'll leave the class knowing a lot about the American Government and Star Wars.
Professor Harrington was a great professor to have even if you don't like government class he'll catch your attention I had his class early in the morning and still manage to get the class to participate attendance is mandatory, if you study for his quizzes you should pass , overall I'd give him an A as a teacher
This teacher knows his subject matter but is generally uninteresting and not a great communicator. He will also use his platform to religiously indoctrinate you. We spent way too much class time talking about how Christian values built this country and Christians are persecuted by separation of church and state--I didn't come to college for that.
A lot of readings to do for this class. However, if you read and do your assignments, you will be okay. He is not a tough grader, but you need to work for it.
(Taken online) The textbook used for the course is so horribly slanted. The professor relies largely on the web-based learning bundled in the textbook. Unresponsive to messagesemail, too. He will hand out assignments, give somewhat good feedback, but does not really *teach* anything. Expect to do basically all the learning from the textweb book
Wish I would have taken in a classroom setting, online was incredibly difficult. No lecture notes, no help, just useless discussions. Did not do anything to prepare me for the tests. I did pretty well on the tests, but I was all alone for those. I think he might be a good professor, just not online. If you take his class, DON'T DO IT ONLINE.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS ONLINE! I have never scored below a B on a college exam and I cannot make about a 65 on his. When I asked for pointers or information to focus on for tests, he always responded "read the book". The assignments are relative to today's issues in government but will not help you learn the material.
Mr. Harrington is a great professor! He gives good extra credit opportunities and he gives homework once a week (discussion or drop box assignment). He is a bit of a tough grader if your grammar, spelling and punctuality isn't good. Other than that I would definitely recommend him!
for the online course. he is a not a tough grader. to be honest most of the time I had to ask a fellow classmate because his instructions weren't clear but assignment weren't hard. he is great at responding to email fast! Only used the book for two assignments so don't buy it. Gives a lot of extra credit.
I really enjoyed him and this class. I'm not one for politics but he made it very interesting and worth going to. He has a very dry sense of humor which makes the class fun. Tests are easy as long as you study for them. Very helpful when you need them and also very good at explaining things that you are not sure of. Fantastic teacher!
He responds to emails very fast. I thought his class was VERY easy. Discussions aren't hard neither are the tests (if you are clever *hint*). Take him online, you won't regret it.
I took this class online. I hate history! There is one discussion post due every week. You're required to write one paper at the end of the course. Tests are pretty hard mostly because there are 60 problems and he only gives you 75 minutes to do it. (Quizlet was very helpful on tests) As long as you put in effort he gives you a good grade.
Take online! Never used the textbook only bought for access code.
I'm a Senior in HS (dual enrollment) Took this class Spring 2017. Be prepared to spend about an hour a week on this class. There are 3 quizzes about 40 questions, a term paper and a discussion or lab each week. The Professor is great about replying to emails and gives great feedback on your discussions. Take this class, you won't regret it.
Prof. Harrington is great! Easy to contact om canvas and he gives good feedback when grading. A very easy class, if you put in a little effort, you'll easily get an A!
Contrary to many other posters , I found the turnaround time on emails to be mediocre at best. Instructions for discussion posts and some assignments were generally lacking details (I would have liked a ruberic). He is a really easy grader though, and you should do fine in the class with minimal effort. Also had extra credit available.
I got an A but he is abrupt and down right rude in his communications with you. If you are a DRC student, make sure to clearly communicate before every exam. I was discriminated against and got a C on my Final because no accommodation was given and he did not respond to emails in a timely manner some not at all. I got an A but the stress duress
I am not good at history, but he outlined his assignments clearly so they were easy to understand what he was asking for. There's only one essay, but multiple discussions. He was a great professor overall and he was always available when needed.
I cant tell you how many extra credit assignments this professor gives. I took this class online and loved it. However, I know many people in my class would think otherwise. If you READ the directions the grading criteria is beyond clear. I would definitely take him again, hes not the best at communication but I never had to contact him.
Professor Harrington always gave good feedback on my assignment to where I didn't need to ask questions or be confused. He would always offer extra credit assignment for anyone to try to better their grade, and he was always respectful.
I work 50+ hours a week and was able to do this class. He is very caring, there is always a chance to get extra credit, weekly discussion board, and quizzes. only 1 term paper but he gives you plenty of time to get it done.
Great Professor and good about replying back to emails. Gives many opportunities for extra credit to take advantage of and very insightful about course subject.
This professor is a great communicator. If you have a question regarding anything - ask it and he will respond politely. Gives lots of opportunities for extra credit. I am not a history major so I struggle with the test. Lots to read and material to cover - hard for me to retain all for the test. Love the assignments & extra credit though.
10/10! American gov. & history have never been my forte but with prof. T.J Harrington everything became clear and easy to learn. All the assignments are formatted in a way that everyone can understand & complete. He gives many extra credit opportunities & gives even better feedback. You can tell he wants all his students to be successful.
Weekly discussions and assignments, 3 exams and 1 term paper.
Great professor. Just do the work and keep up on the announcements and you'll be golden.
Lots of reading out of the textbook, but quite easy assignments. There is an online section to do short assignments, not very time consuming. Test come straight from textbook. If you read the book it is an easy A.
I took POS2041 online with Professor Harrington, and it went smoothly. He clearly outlined the semester, and made his expectations known. He gives a number of interesting extra credit opportunities, so take advantage of those! Would recommend!
I took this online and I'm not the least bit interested in government. However, he made this class a breeze for me & I learned a lot along the way. He replied quickly to my messages on canvas and proved himself very helpful and caring. You will need to purchase a textbook to access HW! Tests are taken online at home. 1 term paper- topic of choice!!
Great Professor. Easy class, easy "A" just be prepared to read!!!
Professor Harrington is a great professor, he gives extra credit throughout the whole semester and they are many opportunities. The assignments are not hard, it was definitely a good class!
Professor Harrington is really good about answering emails quickly. The homework is not burdensome, but you will have to devote lots of time to reading the textbook and studying.
You should always do your work, generally speaking. This professor is really interested in the subject matter he teaches so make a good effort in participation and follow the instructions. He will provide good feedback and gives plenty of opportunity for extra credit if you need it.
very personable
A lot of your grade in the class is discussion posts so make sure you are on top of them he clearly states what he expects in those and is a fair grader. The other part of the class is Mind Tap assignments. He gives lots of extra credit and the tests are not too hard. Overall its an easy online class if you meet the due dates for assignments.
Fair, enjoyable method with clear expectations
Professor Harrington was really good at responding to my emails or any concerns I had. He also allowed us to do work that was always relevant to our current issues in society which made it more interesting.
Good teacher, give very constructive feedback on discussions and papers. The tests are pretty hard so be prepared to read than read again.
Great Professor, he is always easy to respond to email. Gives clear guidelines for assignments, and also give useful feedback to improve. I would recommend taking Professor Harrington to anyone interested in his class.
He gives very useful feedback on assignments and gives clear instructions. Be prepared to read a lot!
I took this class online. Summer A. Easiest online class ever. Have to purchase the code to pass the class but the text book isnt used much. Tests are simple if you know the material. Homework assignments are a piece of cake. He answers emails within a few hours and grades quickly. Highly recommend taking this class with professor Harrington!!!
Super easy!! Took for Fall B and happy I did. Online txtbk needed. Threeish assignments due each week based in the online book. Questions can all be googled. Only two test (ProcturU not needed) and one mid term paper (2 pages long). Some how the class average was super low for all assignments while I would get nearly a 100 on everything. IDK how.
I took his American National Gov't class online and it was really easy just some online assignments with light reading and then weekly discussions through Canvas based on the Constitution and the Federalist papers. One term paper which he gives three options for you too write on. Otherwise an easy A for your general AA credit.
Took this class online and the workload was fairly easy! Few discussions (2-3 paragr) require actual effort but easy. Lots of easy focus activities through MindTap program (don't buy the txtb just the code if possible), one research paper and three exams (no ProctorU). Prof is nice, quick to respond to emails, and always sharing helpful info!
I decided to take this class online after receiving a D in it the first time I took it at another college. Super easy, I would avoid buying the textbook, just purchase the online program. There's usually two assignments due a week (I missed a few and still maintained an A overall), and a term paper. He offers an optional exam to replace lowest test
This was my first time attempting an online class at Santa Fe. This teacher was straight forward on what you were suppose to study each week, and what assignments to expect each week. There were the same homework assignments due every Thursday. There were hardly any tests. As long as you do the assignments, you pass the class.
He was extremely Awesome and easy. Just do the work and you'll pass .
Professor Harrington was very informative with what he expected. His assignments were interesting to talk about and he gave good feedback on how he felt about submitted assignments. It was a pleasure.
Professor Harrington is a great teacher. The course load is not heavy & is easily accessible (responds quickly; took his online government class). There a a few discussions & other assignments that are about between 3-10 questions every week. One term paper which he is very flexible on the material and gives good feedback. Overall easy A.
Professor Harrington is a very fair Professor. He tells you like it is in black and white. (no shade of grey here folks) You learn about the government and how it works. Group discussions are fun. (especially online) I would take another one of his classes again, but Im a history nerd too so I enjoy this kinda stuff.
I took this class online and it was a great experience. Professor Harrington is very helpful and available outside class time for questions, and he gives good feedback. I had to write a 5-page term paper, 2 exams on several book chapters, and weekly discussions and minor assignments. In short, if you do your part it should be an easy A.
Great teacher and is a fun class just dont turn in late work.
therers only 15 mindtap assignments, 5 dissucssions, and one midterm and test
Took it online. Tests are based on readings, but are overall not that hard. No honor lock or proctor u. He gives chances for extra credit at the end of the semester. Usually a mind tap assignment followed by a discussion. Assignments are due at the end of the week by midnight. Due dates don't show up on canvas so you actually have to check mind tap
Good Teacher offers help for anything you need very present would take again
Really great teacher. A lot of writing involved (discussions and a term paper), but as long as you put effort into it (grammar, spelling, research, etc.) you will get a good grade. He also gives really good feedback on every single assignment so you know how to improve for the next one. Really accessible through email as well.
Overall, this was a good course. I took it Summer A. The homework on MindTap is very reasonable and easy to do. The tests are open book (there are two, I struggled a little still) and theres one paper. Hes very nice, encouraging, and easy to reach at anytime. He wants everyone to succeed in the class.
Overall, an easy to follow class. The only reason I have the grade I do is because i thought the class started a week later than it did, in a 6 week class lol. Do your homework and you will be fine.
Great professor! Make sure you do your online homeworks or theyll come back to get you. Overall a great teacher and gives really good feedback.
Professor Harrington gave me a good starting point for my first asynchronous class taken at Santa Fe. While the assignments were fairly easy and straightforward, discussion posts will take most of your time assignment-wise, be creative and use your own thought to back your arguments. *If taking online be sure to look at the syllabus for due dates.*
Professor Harrington was a pretty decent professor. The assignments are easy if you do the readings and aren't late. I ended up with a C because I found the tests to be more difficult and never seemed to have enough time to answer all the questions. I did REALLY bad on both the midterm and final and still will be ending with a C. Take his class!
Great teacher! Class was a little challenging.
Prof. Harrington is definitely a thought-provoking professor. He definitely cares about you taking the time to read the material and get a clear understanding. He encourages you to THINK, ANALYZE, and RELATE. Stay on top of the assignments and COMMUNICATE with him. He is very understanding. He does not want you to FAIL!!!!
This teacher doesnt teach. Very unprofessional in encouraging and giving positive feedback, every paper I wrote not one time did he say anything good, always telling me what was wrong with my work so I felt like he was trying to push me instead of being a caring uplifting professor. I would not recommend him to my least favorite person on Earth.
I wouldnt recommend this class with this teacher. He is a very tough grader and doesnt help until hes already graded your work. I felt like I had no help and when he tried to help it wasnt really helpful. Terrible experience from this professor.
Professor Harrington is an excellent teacher who I would suggest to students. Just be prepared for the tasks, most of which you will have until the end of the semester to complete. If you do your best, you will easily pass this course, and he genuinely cares about his students' success.
Prof. Harrington was straight forward when telling you what to study. Read the chapters and study the quizzes. The class was pretty challenging due to the fact that I did not know exactly what to study. Still, Prof. Harrington was easy to reach and offers extra credit.
This class was definitely a challenge for me. Be prepared to read...a lot! The exams are directly from the reading so take notes and take time to accurately understand the concepts from the book because there is no study guide. Professor Harrington is very caring, considerate, and encouraging. Go to office hours for concerns and clarification.
I enjoyed taking this course! Due to its online nature, this class was pretty self directed. However, Professor Harrington was responsive to emails and gave guidance when needed. He also shared small anecdotes and excerpts of interesting, relevant information. It was a textbook heavy class, lots of readingbut if you read you will pass.
This class is based on your textbook, so take notes and take time to accurately understand the concepts from the book because there is no study guide. However, with that being said the grade you want should be easy to obtain, just be sure to read and do all of the assignments and discussions.
Took this class online, in the beginning it can be hard to get a feeling for how the course works. There is an optional exam at the end of the semester that can be really helpful. He also offers extra credit opportunities throughout the semester. Highly recommend a group chat for this class!
This teacher is a very hard grader. He will also not hold back on leaving you some what mean feedback on your work. Tests were on honorlock and very difficult. I would say find a different teacher if you want to keep your confidence.
If taking online, be prepared to read ALOT. There is no clear topics to study for so you must memorize as much of the textbook as possible to pass. Responsiveness is hit or miss. Sometimes responds within the hour, other times I never got a response. Not the worst professor in the world but I would try to find a different one if I had to do it over
Professor Harrington is very kind and understanding . Though a summer mini semester is difficult and the exams are really hard, I still enjoyed learning about American Government. I have no idea what my grade is, however I highly recommend Professor Harrington and would take him as a Professor again.
This class is set up for you to work at your own pace. You do use MineTap which I found very helpful. But the midterm and the finial were somewhat difficult, you can use your notes and the textbook but your limited on time. However the more challenging part was the questions. He gives great feed back, a fair grader, and he did respond to my emails.
He doesn't teach/help/guideline for class. The test bank made-up of online questions from various sources nothing is related to text Book coverages or reading assignment. Single Test questions are related to MindTip test review. Test are not from Text book and Mindtip. He doesn't response your email timely, general reply after events.
Self study to struggle to keep my GPA, he has very vague syllabus, tests are very hard, test contexts are not equally from text book or case study from MindTIP. Heavy heavy reading and notes if u want to pass. Please choose different teacher if you don't want to risking your grade!!
There is no study guide whatsoever and get ready to read and takes an insane amount of notes bc the test questions may be based on any random fact among 100s of pages. Essay is easy but exams are not and kill your grades bc he puts all the effort into giving everyone diff exam questions but no actual teaching in the class. Grade prob gonna be a B.
He requires that a textbook is read and thought is put into discussion assignments. A general topic is selected for discussions but it is broad giving you room to pick what you want to write about. He is excellent about providing feedback in a timely manner and always has a comment on your assignments. Offers extra credit throughout the term.
I actually enjoyed this class a lot, I tend to not like History but it was very simple and straightforward. Do the assignments, read the readings, participate I'm discussions. Very easy to get into contact with. Overall the exams were kinda difficult, but I'm just not too great at retaining information. But if you are you will make an easy A.
Overall I enjoyed being in Mr. Harrington's class. Weekly discussions were easy and straightforward, however, exams were difficult. He was also very easy to communicate with, as he always responded to my emails. Please be aware that the exams are very MindTap/Notes/Textbook oriented, and expect all types of questions.
The professor has a very nice course layout. There is a suggested chapter you read every week and two exams plus a final. All the textbook assignments are due near the end of the semester, so make sure you pace yourself. There are also a lot of extra credit opportunities during the semester as well as an optional extra credit exam with the final.
Professor Harrington was great. I took his online class and all his modules were straight to the point. He is very good at responding his emails. If you put in time to this class, you should have no problems.
His course is very difficult for me. There is so much reading, you literally have to spend 8 hours a week to only read if you want a chance to pass. Maybe another 8 hours to do all the mindtaps and discussion posts. The tests are more like a trivia test with random facts in the reading than testing your understanding how things actually work.
Professor Harrington is one of the kindest and most understanding professors I have ever taken. I would recommend his class to anyone who needs this class as a grad requirement. I don't like history classes normally but he made the class fun and gave awesome feedback and has a fast response time when it comes to emails.
Awesome instructor! The discussions were fun and interactive and the mindtap assignments were easy. The open book exams... good luck. If they weren't timed and I had to leave the testing center, I would still be there to this day searching for answers.
While the class is easy to follow: read the material, respond to some short response discussion questions (which are basically mini-essays each week), the professor LOVES politics and encourages students to share their insights which made the questions and prompts very uncomfortanble. I regret taking this class and never want to come back to it.
While the assignments are easy, and the textbook chapters work is as well. The tests are ridiculous as they will throw in chapters not included with the reading and are filled with trivia/gotcha questions and they count a heavy part of your grade (20%) tons of reading and unclear on what exactly will be from these chapters and on the test.
