he is terrible, and sounds like Dr. Evil. There are more tests and exams in the class than actual speeches. Be prepared
He loves to talk about himself, but thats about it. Classes are long and boring, he is rude to some and nice to others. Talks tooooo much about Com theory. This COM class is way harder than any other one at the school.
He favors some and not others. Beware if you aren't one of the chosen few. Gave more tests, then requiring what the course is about, which is giving speeches. Finally, grading system was favoritism in the end.
Was very unfair, unwilling to help, heavily favored women, and made the days that I had his class, the worst day of my week.
the horror...the horror... Most boring class I've ever took. He talked about himself SO MUCH and helped you very little and graded very harshly. No fun. I wish he didn't teach at all.
HE SUCKS!!!!!! GET OUT WHILE U CAN!!!!!!!!
I didnt think he was bad. He was helpful when I needed it and although some test were hard, others were easy. I have heard he is the hardest COM teacher though.
he isn't as bad as others say, but then again i just took my first test, so i don't know how hard of a grader he is.. one piece of advice is DON'T BE LATE... i've heard he doesn't say anything about it but just ends up grading your speech way harder.
He is awful! He graded me down heavily because I was "nervous" Hello! It's public speaking he should expect people to be nervous. I got only a 2.3 and I busted by butt for this class. BEWARE!
I hate this guy... DO NOT I repeat DO NOT TAKE THIS GUY OZA!
he does sound like Dr.Evil, but he isn't. If you show up to class-ON TIME! Listen or take notes, than you should do very well. He does grade you harder for being absent/ esp. late. Rambles sometimes but overall; ok teacher. I didnt mind going to class.
He is ok. The class isnt hard at all, but it is very boring. He shows a lot of videos, there is hardly any reading so dont buy the book. He is very picky about the oral presentations so come prepared.
waste of money and time... and because it was his first time teaching the class... even worse.
OZA is the WORST professor I have ever had! He cannot even speal clear English and he's teaching Communications! He treats us like we're in middle school and the class has no organization!
Did an EXCELLENT job exposing class to Indian Culture. Is HUGE on PARTICIPATION. Attend class, and use the discussion board, and you will do well. Seems all the bad points from comm are the good points for Int'l Study.
I thought he was fine for Public Speaking, but a lot of people just bombed out of the class. You have ot be willing to do the work. He doesn't give you a lot of time to prepare your speeches, so use it effectivly.
Oza knows his stuff. He's a little unorganized. It's a good class and helps you to prepare for speaking in front of others. He's generally good natured and interested in students that are interested in learning and not just showing up!
If you're used to taking a traditional lecture, book, exam course, DO NOT take this one - it's much freer and less regimented. EASY tests if you just pay vague attention. Homework is comparable to middle school assignments.
Can not understand this clown

Oza is highly unorganized, yet acts as he has it all together and the students are unorganized. he tries to ease the class by informing what will be on tests, but is vauge and thinks he has already included informationhe hasn't. I'd look elsewhere.
He is simply a tough teacher. I have him for Public Speaking now, and he cant help you for nothing. He has this big ego, and he thinks he can do anything he wants. He feels like he is the man. I would not recommend him to anyone ever!
VERY unorganized. Big ego and treats you like you are the scum on his shoes. Talks more about personal issues and how YOU should talk more like him. Heavy indian accent. His communication skills lack compared to other professors. look else where!!!!!!!
Not that bad of a teacher. Lecture out of the book and really no homework. The speeches are easy and i think he is a pretty fair grader. But, not very helpful when it comes to explaining things.
He was just all over the place in his lectures and repeated the same jokes every class, twice a class... I agree with the ego comments made because he does have a huge one. Not recommended.

He is the worst public speaking teacher EVER! He was very not understanding that in beginning public speaking courses students are nervous. He grades down for nervousness! He is unfair and seems to favor certain students.
OZA IS DA MAN. OZA FOR PRESIDENT! HIS CLASS ROCKS! HE REALLY HELPED ME OUT! IF YOU WANT A CLASS WHERE YOU WILL DO GOOD, AS LONG AS YOU PUT IN YOUR 100% FAITHFUL EFFORT, YOU WILL DO GOOD. THERE ARE NO SECRETS, NO GIMMICKS!
Oza is a great professor, the workload isn't all that hard, and he lets you know what's expected. The tests weren't easy, but he goes over exactly what will be on it, so if you fail, it's your fault. Great class.
I don't understand how any student can like this teacher! He is HORRIBLE. He grades UNFAIRLY, and totally FAVORS certain students. I know I give better speeches then other students and they end up getting better grades then me! AVOID AT ALL COSTS!
Favors certain students, makes no sense, and grades unfairly. Needs to grade students on their work, not on whether or not he like them or not.
Favors students. Grades unfairly. Seems easy at first, until he grades you. I couldn't find a way to succeed in this class, and I tried everything. Huge ego. If you take him, figure him out and play his games, because unfortunately, this is crucial.
P. Oza is an excellent professor. He is clear on what is expected-if you do the work, on time and prepare yourself for speeches you will do well. My oral communication skills were really strengthened because of this class.
Wonderful Professor. HIGHLY RECOMENED. The negative comments are most likely from slackers. If you listen in class and do your work as asked, you will walk out with an A. He makes class VERY interesting and encourages student participation. Fair grader!
Even the other communications teachers say this professor is someone to avoid. Inconsistent grading policy favors students that he predetermined are better than others.
He makes a class like Public Speaking something you dread going to. He himself will tell you he gives more work than other communication professors. He is extremely boring and annoying... he may need a few tips on Public Speaking himself.
Worst teacher I have had over the last 4 years!Smart man-just boring, with a dry sense of humor(actually takes time to laugh at own jokes-which are not humorous),ok test, goes off subject quite ofter.Class is boring, for a 3 1/2 hr class you get a 7 min break;you always stay the whole time!DON'T TAKE
DEFINITELY plays favorites. Not a bad teacher but if he doesnt like you hell barely even answer your questions clearly.the only people who he pays attention to are the ones that he knows from other classes. I definitely woulndt take him again.and he does laugh at his own crap jokes like dr evil
This teacher picks favorites. These other comments aren't lying. I wish if I would have read this before I took the class- because it's true! So many other people don't like his class either. He is the ONLY professor that I've had so far at OU that I don't like. HORRIBLE TEACHER!!!!
GET OUT NOW!!! He is a horrible teacher who will keep you the entire class time. He thinks that everyone is soooo interested in India and their life revolves around this stupid class. Get ready for extreme amounts of BUSY work. His tests suck! Cocky, will not work with you.
This guy is the only professor I've had at OU so far that I do like. His tests are a little difficult but not so much if you study for them!! He does keep us the whole class time but so do a lot of other professors. There is a lot of work but most of it is interesting. Slackers should stay away!!
this guys is the one to take for IS240. i hear hes tough for public speaking but if you are looking for a international studies class to take, then T oza is the one to take. i did learn some stuff about India and at the same time enjoyed his massive amount of sarcasm!! fun fun
Oza is not a very clear professor. He makes things up off the top of his head, he has a very strange sense of humor, and does not communicate very well at all, despite being a communication teacher. Most of the time it is not clear what the assignment is about or anything. Just laugh at his "jokes"
well hes not the best professor ive had so far at OU! He does sit there and go on and on and on about stupid things and uses words that ive never even heard of to make the littlest point.. hes ok but i wouldnt recommend him to anyone.. im sure theres better professors to teach com 201
Not clear on what he wants. Belittles people when he does not agree with their opinion. Deducts points off grade if you miss more than 1 class, even when he teaches you absolutely nothing. Take this class with another teacher.
the class may be difficult if you don't make an effort, but Oza is the best professor I ever had. If you take the time to know him and to care about the class then he will definately help you out and can be very understanding
T.R. Oza is a very good teacher - at least for this class. I hadn't had him previously, and I enjoyed the Intro to India class with him very much. He can get a little scattered and off-track occasionally, but always brings the class back to the original topic.
he's a nice guy but the lectures are super boring and he will keep you the ENTIRE time. He jumps around from topic to topic and the tests aren't easy. When you watch mahabrhata PAY ATTENTION THE TEST IS VERYHARD. Participate on the discussion board, he really pays attention to that stuff.
He's very intelligent & will get the class involved. He tells you what he expects & even what will be on tests, but Yes, You have to LISTEN to catch it. He'll say it within lectures. I learned more then I imagined about South Asia & India in this class. I strongly recommend him. NOT for slackers.
He is not that interesting and there are other professors that should be teaching in his place. Be careful if you are a guy, since the girls in the class, even if you are a better public speaker and/or student will get a better grade than you.
He is a poor teacher at best! He is very **** towards men! If your a man beware of this teacher!! If your a female, young, and cute, you will do fine. How he screws over men is he doesn't have a good rating scale for measuring your speeches, so he can grade you down, without reason or explanation

I learned a lot from this man and he does not show a bias towards men that the other ratings report. Pay attention and show up, you will be fine.
He is very pompous and wants everyone to know about his great education. Boring and tells horrible jokes. Terrible, I would not recommend him.
Oza is definitely a lecturer; he tests on his lecture notes. very helpful about any subject even if it wasnt covered in the class. he called people in India to find out information for me so he definitely goes that extra step to get you information.
I came to Oakland University from Albion College as a guest student. He is an excellent teacher. He did not hold a bias towards anyone. I don't know what these people are talking about. I am a guy, and I got a 3.5 in his class. As long as you show up to class, listen, you will be fine. He's a great guy, give him a chance, you will learn alot!

Amazing professor who really cares about the students. He really knows his stuff and wants you to succeed.
Lectures very unorganized. Kept asking class if he covered a topic 2 or three times. Covered everything first two days of class after that it was the same thing. Would not allow me to take test early or late even though I wanted to go down to Dayton to watch the Grizz in march madness. Day of class he postpones the test because two girls asked
I really enjoyed learning about India from a teacher who actually came from there. He is unique in that he actually tries to teach his class not only the requirements but also *gasp* answers questions happily. If you take IS240, be prepared to memorize maps, because you will see them at least twice on tests, and be prepared for a group project.

Gives assignments without clarity of what he wants. Forces us to stumble our way through the class. He laughs hysterically at his own jokes...THAT ARENT FUNNY AT ALL.
I didnt open the book once and got a 4.0. Show up and do the speeches and you will be fine.
He is unclear about coursework and also he does not give fair grades to students.
Professor Oza is an awesome teacher. He enlightens you on culture and life. When I took this class we has to do a group presentation and rate the group. He loves to get insight from his students and you will definitely learn from him. He also is available for help outside the classroom.
His jokes are NOT FUNNY not only does he laugh hysterically at his own unfunny jokes...he has the weirdest laugh in the world...he repeats the same things over and over and has a very high opinion of himself
He picks up his nose allll the time, it makes me sick. Repeats the same thing over and over again. I would never take his class again if i had too and i got a B+ with him and i would not recommend him to anybody..
Lol he laughs at is own jokes...He came from India but he keeps asking for help from student that had other professors who taugh India. Very unhelpful when teaching... he repeats the same thing over and over again. I do not recommend him...
Awfull teacher ... Very unclear in his assignments. Sometimes he has no idea what he is talking about. When you ask him questions he has no clear answer for you. The worst teacher i have ever had. I got the 3.7 GPA in his class.
Very difficult class! He knows the subject well, but doesn't teach it in an understandable way. Maybe he should stick to COM classes. Lots of lengthy writing assignments. Group presentation project treated like a speech class assignment. Unclear instructions and requirements for assignments. Difficult test questions, especially true and false.
Very bad professor. He is awfull at teaching.
Comes off as a nice guy but is really a smartass. Has favorites. You may deserve an A, but he will still give you the B for the hell of it.
He laughs at his own jokes...WHO DOES THAT?!? I put a lot of time and effort into the homework he assigned and he gave me WAY below what I deserved...HORRIBLE!
Great teacher. Funny. EASY!!
Great Teacher! If you do as he asks then you will get an A. Follow the rules and work hard. If you work hard it will pay off.
its a year later and i am still emotionally disturbed by the experience. and all i know about india is his family experiences
spent 8 class periods watching an indian epic, the text of which is 4 times longer than the bible. his material was very, very difficult to follow as were his lectures. he'll give out slips that will excuse you from a class or they can be turned in for extra credit, by the end of term the only people that were given slips were Indian. has favorites
Horrible...his lectures were unclear and hard to follow; picks favorites which happens to be other Indian students; we had to watch hours of an Indian epic :( Over all, all you learn is about his childhood and visits to India!!!
had him for IS and comm, much more difficult for comm class. you really get what you pay for, and by that i mean you learn a lot. he is very clear on assignments; put a little effort into it, and you've got yourself an 'A'. he enjoys participation, so you can often sidetrack him with discussions. he's friendly, organized, and smart. recommended.
Really enjoyed the class. Thought the class was enjoyable and fair. I'm surprised to see so many low ratings, maybe his India class is different, but I would recommend him for communications. He gives a lot of pointers on interview strategy too!
needs to be more clear on things
Not clear on notes
Took this class in the spring semester and loved it! I wish I could take this professor for other classes. Just show up to class and do the reading and it's an easy 4.0. Grades fairly on tests and assignments.

VERY unorganized, never prepared, went over the same things over and over because he wasn't sure if he had already discussed it. You don't know what to expect or when assignments are due. Very moody, sometimes rude sometimes nice, you never know what to expect. I really didn't like him as a teacher.
I would not take another IS class with him. He assigns too many weird little homework assignments that don't make a lot of sense. He's picky and unclear a lot of the time. Interesting material, but could be better with someone else.
I didnt care to much about the material, but prof oza made it interesting with his stories. he was extremely nice to me, and im not even indian. Easy A, just show up to class.
He was the worst professor I have ever had. His directions were not clear and he was very rude to some students.
VERY unfair. rude and non-understanding. probably the worse and most unprofessional professor at OU. Do not take him unless you want a professor who grades unfairly. only gives A's to students he favors.
Do not take Oza. He is extremely unclear about what he wants, yet, he expects a lot from students. There are a ton of projects at the end of the semester, and they are hardly worth anything, but they are so much work. Also, he is a jerk and tries to trick students and then makes fun of them for not knowing the answers.
Worse teacher I have EVER had. Someone with broken English should not be teaching Public Speaking. Do not take this class if you value your GPA.
I thought everyone on here was harsh when saying he was unfair, until I myself fell under one of his traps. He is so rude and doesnt give you the time of day to try to explain your thoughts.Trapped into him blamming students on things.Thought he was funny, but due to his disrespectful rudeness i will never even attempt to give him the time of day.:(
I spend 6 hours on the first project and received a C+. Doesn't seem to like me even though I try to answer questions and fake laughs at his awful jokes (that he laughs at for about 5 minutes after each while we just sit there awkwardly). I would drop if it weren't too late by now. I expect to fail no matter how hard I try. Don't take him!!!!
Worst Professor I've had at OU without a doubt and no joke. The rudest one I have ever had to deal with here. He is highly disrespectful and doesn't give you a chance at all. He also seems to be a very biased grader . If you are smart you will not take him. Find a different Professor for Com201 it is supposed to be an introductory class!
Through this class you will be well prepared in speech. I would recommend Oza to anyone. He is not the easiest teacher, but he gives you everything you need for speech. You well be getting the best speech education for the money.
had him for intro to india..if ur not indian DO NOT take this class!! he will ignore u and put down any culture other than indian. if you're 2mins late he marks you down. unorganized and doesn't use the book. don't waste your time and money!
I had him for the india class. the class is sooooo easy! hes only nice in front of the class but if you go to ask him a question he'll blow you off...indian or not indian, people! GESH he does NOT care who you are he'll still act rude like that. its really not a big deal. he's nice enough NOT to give a final and to make the tests easy.
****, arrogant, do not take this professor.
Pretty good teacher, although he has a tendency to be very vague, then later blames the students for "not listening" or "not following directions." He can be kind-of a jerk, but you will learn something from him. Just do all the work and you'll be fine.
From even the first week of class he was a complete jerk to the students. Remember, you are paying your professor to teach you. Oza knows a lot but as a teacher is one of the worst ive ever had.
Oza is by far the worst professor I've ever had at OU. He is extremely condescending, scatter-brained and, in general, a horrible instructor. He makes stupid jokes and laughs at them forever, and constantly belittles the students and accuses them of not listening. I would take this class from someone else (or not at all if you don't have to!).
He is a fantastic professor. I think he explains very well. He tells you what he expects from you. You will for sure know how to speak in public after you take his class. Make sure you read the chapters he assigns he throwes an unexpected quiz every once in a while. I don't know why people don't like him. I got an A.
Lets be honest here, why oh why do we spend 5 weeks watching an indian epic/religious movie about who knows what in this intro class. why cant we learn about the culture not a random movie? the facts we need to know should be for someone doing their thesis on india, not an intro to india student. insane.
Very rude, very "anti" American, doesn't get along with the majority of white kids in the class. He once even said if we were in India, us white girls wouldn't even be in college, and that our place is in the home cooking for our husbands.
he is very rude. Lots of material to cover, to much work for a GeN. Ed. class. he will give you some extra credit which you have to submit just at 9 pm, and among every one who have submitted it only 5 will get it. After our presentaion, he told to the class " every group who did their presentation today has no knowledge and wount survive 72 hour a
worst teacher ever!! tests are hard, and he adds things that we have never talked about. you have to do a group presentation for 15 mins. which sucked. the class is soooo boring. a lot of homework that isn't even used in the class. terrible teacher. makes you feel stupid if you ask a question. seemed nice at first then turned very mean.
He has the most rediculous way of teaching a class. Minimal Lecture, he relies heavily on videos and student presentations to teach class. He is unsure of his responsibilities to teach the class. He Makes exams up out of information he never teached. When confronted about issues becomes a complete prick.
Online Class. Way tooo much work. Hours worth of homework every day
I am currently in this class. I will start out by saying he is knowledgeable about his curriculum & has alot of experience. This teacher does not follow any type of grading technique. He is incapable of explaining answers or a grade he has given. Oza contradicts what he cannot understand even rules in his Syllabus. He makes individual "Exceptions"
Professor T Oza is very knowledgeable and helpful.
I was worried when I saw the sylabus, but it all was fun and interesting. Not a hard class, but worth taking.
I was so ignorant to the whole continent of India and I am so glad I took the class.
Iv'e had Professor Oza for COM201 and IS240 and recieved A+'s in both classes, all you have to do is attend class, work hard, follow the syllabus, and earn the extra credit!
Professor Oza is one of my favorite professors that I've had at Oakland University. I've taken two of his classes, COM201 and IS240. COM201 helped me formulate my interest in Public Speaking as well as expanded my knowledge on verbal and nonverbal communication skills.
The knowledge gained was useful in my work as well as personal life. Anyone interested in learning and achieving personal growth should attend his classes. I would recommend his class to my family and friends.
Great Class! I've had Oza twice now and I'd recommend him to anyone. I've found that most people who have a problem with Oza didn't follow the instructions that he gave for an assignment and are pissed off that he didn't capitulate and give them a higher grade than the earned. This is college for crying out loud, not kindergarten!
Great class! I was terrible at speaking before this class, and now I feel like I've gained a lot of knowledge about it. Oza expects a lot of his students, but that's how it should be in a college course.
I learned many things that I was able to apply at work. Taking this class enhanced my communication and speaking skills where I feel much more comfortable. Professor gave individualized comments to help every student in our class. GREAT CLASS. Thanks
There's absolutely no way that anyone has benefited from this professor. Very discriminatory, very rude and very inconsistent. This professor needs to re-certified through a board of professionals and also have the board sit in on one of his classes. Worst mistake ever to take his class. DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS.
Absolutely worst professor I ever had in 3 years of full time college! He is not clear and unhelpful. STRONGLY DO NOT RECOMMEND!!!
I didn't mind him at first, but then i realized how unorganized he is! Unfair grader, and gives out random assignments un-related to the course. Rambles on a lot. His tests and quizes have nothing to do with what he lectures about. Do not take!!!!!
Absolutely WORST professor I haver ever had! I did not learn anything and do not feel more confident in my speaking skills. He rambles on about pointless things. VERY UNCLEAR with assignments and with what he wants. AND a week before finals he still won't tell us if we have one. DO NOT TAKE!!!!!
Fun class if you like to talk, really didn't use the book to the end, I would have just borrowed a friends if I hada known, talks alot but he will let you talk and he lets you out early daily especially after a speech so he can talk to the students who spoke. ITS JUST...IDK
DO YOURSELF A FAVOR AND DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR FOR THE LOVE OF GOD! Unfair grading, the midterm/assignments had nothing to do with the course, he expects way too much out of the speeches and if he doesn't like your topic it affects your grade. He is rude and not understanding at all.
One of the worst teachers ever. I have a 3.8 GPA overall and I got a 2.8 in the class..
This class seems like a lot at first, but this class really isn't hard. You have to give 4 speeches and take 2 exams, which the exams are exactly what he talks about in class, so just take notes and the exams are a piece of cake.
Very easy class. As long as you do your homework and pay attention, he'll love you and you'll get a great grade. DO NOT BUY THE BOOKS - I never used mine! Exams are very simple, and for a whole month you watch a (very boring) movie. His lectures are boring, and he is somewhat disorganized, but this class is a piece of cake.
Pay attention to the syllabus; he means what he says in it. He is EXTREMELY blunt and has a dry sense of humor, which offended some of my classmates, but not me. Four speeches, an outside speaker critique and two exams are all he requires; if you do the work and read the text, the class is not hard. I learned a lot, and I liked him.
People in my class didn't really like him but he wasn't that bad. It's a fairly easy class really just pay attention and do what he asks for. Nothing more, nothing less. I didn't think he was offensive, but others did...
I took this class online because I'm a music major attempting to finish my gen-eds. Oza is the most demanding professor but doesn't clearly explain tasks. He refuses to communicate via email even though it is a fully online class. I wouldn't recommend taking this if you're looking for and easy IS gen-ed!
If you are looking for an easy gen-ed, stay away!! He refuses to communicate via e-mail, which is really fun when you are confused and need clarity!! Also, he has all the assignments in the course grading set to 0.0 before he enters them, so it is impossible to know what your real grade is. Will not be taking him again.
I took this class online. As already mentioned, he will have discussions via email. This is a real pain. He can be vague, demanding and confusing. I actually got a 3.5 in the class in spite of completely blowing off one assignment. I think that's because I participated HEAVILY in the online forums. I did learn A LOT about India.
I thought this would be an easy elective class, however, I was wrong. The assignments are ridiculous, and he expects WAY too much in 7 weeks. Some of the major assignments include a news log submission, Cultural Observation assignment (5 Indian 5 pages about % Indian events you went to) a 5 hr movie (2 exams on it). I would avoid.
