Very easy, gives u printed notes, dont need to write down except formulas. Allows one sheet front-back formula sheet for midterm and final. Easy A.
Very Great guy. Very approachable and very caring and understanding of the needs of his students. This is the third time I took this class. Dropped out of it twice because of low mid-term grades, this time however I am getting an A!
Take his class. You will not regret.
Great professor!! funny at times, tests are easy - especially w/ cheat sheet.
Extremely clear, helpful, and EASY!!! If you CANNOT get an A in his class, go back to the 2nd grade. His tests are extremely EASY with cheat sheet. I cannot believe that someone actually got test results in the 70's on his exams!!!
His exams are really easy and you can have a study sheet during the exam. His tests are exactly like his class notes. But make sure you read the chapters so you can answer the verbal questions. His final was a little harder than the rest of the exams.
he was ok... didn't make the class interesting or fun so i fell asleep a few times his class tests are fine but final very very hard my A went down to a C+ bcuz his final was so hard
Really great professor.. keeps the class mostly interesting.. 2 midterms were nearly the same as the notes/hw.. but the final was much harder. Either way he was very fair in grading and worth giving a shot..
Easy A, but don't expect to learn a whole lot
He enjoys teaching, but students are sleeping. Grading is reasonable, worth a shot. Attendance is a must
I took him in a summer session. Two-midterms (30% each) and a final (35%) plus attendance (5% of your final grade). For me the second exam (not the final) was the hardest one.
Prof is clear, explains very good. One thing:you HAVE to be at ALL his classes cuz that's 75% of his test. The 25% is book theory which was not that easy-cuz you have to read it I guess ;)
He teaches a lot of material, but the test are fair. I would recommend him over the other mgt 3121 professors.
ALL TRUE ! students sleep in class; he talks a lot of very "cold " jokes; must read book; class looks very easy but must work hard to get A
he won't give a curve even if the devil is breathing down his neck. class isn't as easy as rumored. his true/ false r confusing
All comments are true. He really teaches, but students sleep (including me). Class looks easy but you have to work hard for an A. Not tolerate with any absence.
Attendance is a must. His tests arn't as easy as advertised. The t/f are difficult but he gives partial credit for longer problems. His class is boring but he tries to make it funny with corny jokes. Overall if you study you should get at least a B.
this guy is awesome, really hard to get to register for his class but def worth it if u get it. u get a double sided cheat sheet and the t/f are a lil difficult, need to read the chapters otherwise he is a def must
He is great!
I don't think he is great. If the course is boring and he makes you fall asleep, how can he be a good teacher? To be honest, If you want to learn something, you shouldn't take his class.
He is prett funny. Though lot of students fall asleep during class. If you pay attention to the lecture you will do just find. A little bit practice will ensure a higher grade. Out of possible 10 I would give him about 7. It's not a easy A. 3 Exams. 1st one is pretty easy than it gets very hard.
All the posts below are posted by dumb and stupid Baruch undergrads, who can only muster a "great 1100" on their SAT's. Professor Chien is about the easiest professor even though he doesn't curve. He's so easy. I got a 96 average in his class and hardly studied. Only stupid Baruch undergrads fail.
I don't think this prof is the EASIEST for this class. He has 3 exams, the T/F section is very hard and math can be tricky, the Final was very hard 35% of your grade. I thought he was the best for this class I was wrong take Das or someone else. This class isn't the easy A I thought it would be.
got an A even though i sleep through alot of his classes.the t/f questions are tricky. requires knowledge of little details in the book. allowed 1 cheatsheet. fit everything you can in there ppt slides&concepts from book. great professor. do the hws right before test to understand material
The best prof you can take. The class is very boring, test is from his lectures so you just have to come to class and then practice at home.Multiple choice questions are tricky -28% of the test.No curving neither. But he explain quite well.I didn't like the class but he is the best for mgt.Take him.
Very sneaky and tricky T/F on his exams, you have to take notes because thats where the exams come from. Focus less on the book and more on his slides. Boring class, you don't learn much and you have to study hard before the exams to do good. Take Das he's a lot easier
Pretty bad =(
Very good Professor. Exams can be tough, practice the mathematical problems he goes over in class, u shouldn't have a problem with that. T/F ...u must read the book. Test do get a tad harder as the class progresses. The math problems is not as straight foward as the first exam. Got an A...no curve.
I agree. Exams got harder as the class progresses. Math. problems little bit tricky starting from the 2nd exam. T/F questions in the three exams are conceptual AND tricky. Be sure to read both his notes and the textbook. No curves when grading and I only managed to get a B, but he is very nice.
What can i say: you're allowed one sheet of cheat notes for the three exams, the exams get harder, the third exam was a KILLER. don't expect an easy A, he teaches off of his PPT slides, VERY BORING, lame jokes, managed to get a C+ even though i jammed so much on the cheat sheet, so READ THE BOOK!!
Has his advantages and disadvantages. His problems, which are worth 6 points, are much easier compared to T/F that are worth only 2 points. But those 2 points multiplied by 14 can make the difference between A and C. Cheat sheet won't help for those questions, trust me.
His exam format always stayed the same - 12 T/F, 16 MC. Most students end up getting perfect on the 16 MC (worth 6 pts), and tripping up on the 12 T/F (2 pts each). Cheat sheet is allowed, so copy over his PP examples, and cram as much info as you can from the book. Worked for me, and I got an A.
what can i say, he's a great professor, TAKE HIM for this class... just know what a few students said before me, the multiple choice [6pts each] sure was easy, i got perfect scores on that...but the t/f are sooooooooo confusing, i dont know where he gets them from.
You do have to study for his exams, mainly for the T/F part, and not so much the M/C part. His cheat sheet isnt too hard to make, just put formulas and all the bold terms in the textbook. With slight skimming of the textbook, along with the cheet sheet, it should get you a good grade on his exams, but his final is real tough.
He is really easy. Just like everyone here has said already, the MC are practically giveaways, you get 76 points right there. As for the T/F, well if you have average luck, then you should guess half of them correct, which gives you an 88, if you study a little, your grade goes up, if you study a little more, it'll go up some more, easy A.
Hi is a good professor. If you study, you will do well. He is the best professor to take for management 3121
Very clear explanation, easy test if you study
Very clear on his material, test are based mainly on what he goes over in class. formula sheet is crucial to pass his test and if you study easy grade
He is funny for sure. Enjoyed his class. I was really sick during final so I couldn't do much better. But if you go to class everyday n take notes. You should do lot better. U r allow to take cheat sheet during exam, make it lot easier.
guy's too cocky, on the first day he wants to congrat you for getting into his class. what a loser. his exams aren't as easy as it may seem. you still have to understand the material. don't expect an easy A. very dry humor. has an accent and sometimes seems to be on a sugar rush.
This class was not as easy as i expected, just because he allows formula sheets doesnt guarantee an A, you actually have to do alot of work on ur own. Although I didnt get an A, i can say he is more than fair in grading,he gives partial credit for multiple choice! i'd still recommend him, only because he is understanding and lenient in his grading
NOT and easy A. You must work hard. Don't think you can just do the problems and not read the book. Very enthusiastic about teaching. Midterm is okay. Final is killer. Be prepared to work your ass off !!
He is a good professor. Very clear, tries to keep you up. His tests are hard. Really need to study, do all the homework, it will help a lot. I would definitely recommend, but be prepared to work hard. He does not work.
hardest professor in baruch ever! worst teaching style and throws a killer final that is guaranteed to hurt your gpa effectively! highly recommend not to take him... belittles students as they ask questions..very unhelpful and waste of time taking...there are bunch of other professors out there that do a better job...take das instead!
He seems to explain things well in class but when you have to do a prob. on the test it is not so clear anymore. Weird..Ive gotten an A in all math/accounting courses, however, he teaches u the very most fundamentals and he tests u w/ the must techincal and very difficult problem that he HONESTLY did not show us how to do. NOT WORTH IT. BELIEVE ME.
his lectures seemed easy and clear, but when u get to the test u realize that whatever u learnt is helpless. his tests are really hard. the mc are easier than t/f. I'm still trying to figure out where he gets them from because they are really hard. take my advice do not take him.
not a good way of teaching and uses slides . not a good grader and you won't learn the way you whould..his exams are so tricky..he even told us to tell our friends to register for his class..not recommended..watch out.
Not resommended. just boosting around and talking about walmart. Too hard on grade and his exams are messy and tough.
walmart guy....seems easy in the begining but very hard on exams and on grade.
Very straightforward questions on exams, no surprises. The volume of his voice can crash you, so plan on seating in the back.
very easy and straight forward. exams a a bit tricky though especially true or false part, calculation problems are easy if you do the homework. you dont have to buy the book because he only uses only a few chapter from the book. cant say how his presentation skills are because ive been to his class only twice, when i took the midterms.
His presentation in class is very clear. Make sure you review the homework which he gives all the solutions b/f exams. no need to turn in HW. Questions in Exam is 100% from the notes and very similar to homework. overall, he is a great professor.Class average is 80 sth
His class is boring, and tests are harder than the rumors. I don't understand where those so called class average comes from. You have to study as hard as accounting class in order to get an A. Cheat sheet doesn't help if you want to have a good grade. Avoid or you will feel being fooled by all the rumors including the professor Chien himself.
How can he be teaching in Baruch? THE WORST EVER IN HISTORY! These comments bellow must have been written by his family or relatives! This man is to be AVOID AT ALL COSTS! Got my GPA from 3.82 to 3.2... HORRIBLE EXPERIECE!
Very hard class. Do not be fulled by some good comments about him. You have to study very hard to get a good grade.
he is boring during his lecture, his exam on the t/f part is very confusing. you will be allow for one page formula sheet, you can write anything on it, i thnk he is okay
He acts like he is a very good professor, when it is time for the test, he is not. Don't study at last minute, you will lose time to finish all the quesions by searching around the cheat sheet on the test. Overall, I don't think he is a easy professor.
This professor is average. His exams are fair but his grading is not. He is very anal about the grading system. If you receive a 92.9, he will give you an A- instead of an A.
His lectures are a bit boring, but his powerpoints make it easier. The exams are not hard if you do the hw. You're allowed a sheet of notes for the exams, just copy the key slides, know how to solve problems, and you'll be alright.
excellent professor. he is the BEST operations managment professor out there, hence his class fills up rather quickly. his lecture and slides are very helpful and concise. you actually learn from them. his tests are very fair, all based from the textbook and homeworks. if you are going to take operations mgt, take prof. chien, other prof don't teach
Very good professor for this class. There is a lot of math here, but he breaks it down very nicely and you know exactly what will be on his test. 3 tests, each on 3-4 chapters. 14 T/F 2pts each(not nearly as difficult as others say) and 12 M/C 6pts each which are gimmes if you study and have a good cheat sheet. Definately recommend him!
not as great as everyone else says, but better than the other options. You must do the HW to do well, the slides are not enough for the test, the problems on the test are 10x harder than what he goes over and more work is needed. Does explain well though and not impossible to do well.
In comparison to other professors, very easy. Explains very carefully and takes his time. Just make sure you understand the slides and hw. Final was a killer so make sure you do best on first exam because its the easiest. T/F questions are tricky so read chapters and make full use of the cheat sheet.
So much homework in his classes which are not very helpful when it comes to test because his test are so much harder than the ones we did. Also, his T/F questions are very tricky. If you are good at math, take Prof. Stern instead!!
wow, i had to drop this class, he teaches well, but when it comes to the finals you will suffer! need to be good at math, qstns 're very confusing... there are no good MGT professors at baruch at all
Very good professor. Dont expect to get off easy.Need to work, but he is stimulating
He's one of the best professor in teaching this class. Yes, you got to study hard for his class, but at least you know what you have learned and to prepare for it. Trust me, his lecture is clear and fun, you will learn from him.
Prof. Chien is the best professor for this class. Although it is not an easy A class, you will learn a lot. Lectures are clear and actually interesting. Three exams total and you can even have a cheat sheet (really helpful!). Not a very hard class, class average for the first two tests were 85 and 84. GREAT PROFESSOR!
I agree with the previous comments, but final is a KILLER Be aware
Very easy class~
You do have to put in a good amount of studying to do well in this class. The first two tests were relatively easy but the final was difficult. But then again, I didn't really pay attention in class nor do any of the homework.
Very good professor, his lectures are helpful, and interesting. his exams are like homeworks, so it helps if you do the homework
I worked hard in the class and earned a grade of B+. He is not a bad professor. Class average is usually in the mid 80's. He gives 3 exams and no final. All exams and mc and true/false. If you do take him make sure you study hard. Very hard to receive A but for a B+ you can take him. Nice to students when they ask questions. I recommend him
Extremely organized, much better than I expected. HW is more difficult than test computations, so if you do it, you will be ready for the 72pt of math q's. the other 28 are t/f and are difficult. Make sure to read the chapters twice. Try to do well in the 1st 2 tests cause the final has q's that build on previous answers. Overall no surprises.
Got a 96, 96 and 92, and yet I did not get an A :(
I'm taking his summer class now. He's a very organized professor and i beleive he's the best one to teach this class.
Very good guy. Funny and knows how to teach. Highly recommended!
he replies your email(questions, hw, etc) very quickly, 70% involving calculation, 30% concept questions, 2 exams, hw dont count, but i do them for practice, VERY useful, he's proud to be teaching here, bit cocky but still high quality professor that i would recommand, expecting A
I'm sitting in his summer class and he's such a great professor. He ends class early and his lectures are not boring. He's also funny too which makes his lectures interesting. He's an easy professor but some work is needed. 70% computation, 30% true/false, the average grade falls between a B and B+. Definately recommended for this course.
He's a really nice professor, and teaches really well. However the class is somewhat hard, but he simplifies it, and lets you bring formula sheets to exams. Final is harder than midterm.
GREAT GUY, wonderful professor - truly is passionate for the subject. BIG PROBLEM - T/F on exams is very very difficult - as you must read each page in the book to answer all correct at least ten times. Also, NO CURVE WHATSOEVER. NONE. NOT ONE POINT. What you get is what you get. But if you want to learn OP MAG he is the #1 professor!
he is very easy, if you do the hw you will be fine on the exams. he knows his stuff and hes not that boring. he seems to be very strict with the grading but he is very nice. i was supposed to get a B+ but he gave me a A-
Good professor n very clear when it comes 2 the subject. His tests r tricky b/c the true false questions require a full understanding of the subject matter. The computations can be mastered if u do the homework n class problems over. The final is much harder than the midterm. Allows a cheet sheet w/ nething u want.
The class was very easy if you actually understand the his slides, do the HW he gives and read the book atleast once. Just outline most of the general topics and have a good understand of what it is about and it isn't hard to get an A with a bit of luck. Very good professor. Just come to his class all the time.
He is excellent, and his test problems are exactly the same as class examples with different numbers. T/F are not as hard as some have said. I only read the chapters once and managed to get all of them correct. Just make sure you read and understand the question, and if in doubt about the meaning of the word or two, ask him!
GREAT GREAT Professor. THE BEST
He is .... Dont know what to said him. so boring and exam is hard. dont take him if you wanna survive.
i think he is the best MGT professor for 3121, highly recommanded
simply great. fair and straight foward exams.
He is a good professor, explains everything well. Three exams, just read chapters and most importantly do the homework and you will get an easy A.
I recommend him
Recommended!! Class is interesting. He explains the formulas and computations in the class very clear which will be tested on the exams, however, you really need to read the book to do well the T/F questions. 2 midterms,1 final, attendance, an information sheet, but No curves,No extra credits
Take Him! I toll him over the summer and it was great. He allows a cheat sheet on the exams, which as f/t and m/c. If you work though the hw problems and understand them then you will do great on the exams
Prof. Chien is cool, he is funny, and mande the class interesting. He gave 2 tests and i final, non-cumulative. allows info sheet for each tests and finals.learned many things from him. Take him if you can!!
A lot of Students Say He is better than Other professors. Lets E you bring a page of notes to exam. be careful he is very very policy obedient guy.
Sunday class didnt turn out to be as bad as i thought. Learned a lot from him. The material was complicated but he broke it down to the point where it actually seemed easy. 1 midterm and a tricky final. Studying at the last minute will not help for this class, you must need at least 2-3 days of studying. He does NOT Curve. Studied alot but got A-
A sunday class he is very strict an the exams the midterm is ok but the final will kill you very hard. He doesn't curve but it you do the homework and go over the popwer point presentations u ok
MGT 3121- Lectures are helpful and easy to understand. He condenses the class which is tough to catch up on. Sign in for attendance. Goes over the Hwks. 45% midterm, 50% Final, 5% attendance. Tricky midterm&Final, (your own formula/cheat sheet won't help you much).
Really clear on what he expects you to learn. You need to do the homework problems and understand them. I recommend reading the chapters after the lecture and remembering the key words because that is where the True/False questions stem from in both exams. Make sure you attend the lectures. Attendance counts towards your grade.
As you have read from other comments, his tests are extremely hard. Take it with him only if you are in love with this subject and plan to spend a lot of time doing h/w and reading. My other friends who took it with other prof only had to attend the class and put in minimum efforts to obtain A's. Avg in class was B-
If you want to put in tons of hours studying and trying to figure out his tricky exams, take it iwth him. Take it with him if you plan to be a book warm for this semester otherwise, stay away and find yourself a better professor
uhh, he really isn't hard at all. never read text, slides, or paid attention, easy A-. 70% of test is MC based on formula sheet, and is about as hard as fitting blocks into holes. other 30% T/F, which were hard. randomly guess and get 15 points. 85 min if you know how to use formulas. lectures are sometimes funny, but usually slow+boring
No Comments
he gives clear lecture, and will answer questions very fast. his tests are not easy especially the T/F Qs, and fair grading prof. his lecture, some say is boring, but i didn't feel tired even though it was a 3 hrs class, and the class was funny. he used simple idea to explain the topic which made me easy to understand. i think he is good.
can't believe ppl say his class is hard. Not at all! he makes it so easy for students. 1 mid-term 45%, final 50%. M/C for calculations, T/F for concepts. start to read the book two weeks before exams and you will be fine. Easy A!
If you don't care about your GPA, please take him. His midterm and final are VERY tricky and if you don't speak English as the 1st language, you will NOT get an A. I never regretted taking any professor, except him. He is a fun professor, but it does not mean that you will learn a lot. Especially if he is just giving 2 tests. Don't risk!
very nice professor. he makes the topics easier for students to understand. very funny too. if you have any questions, he's very approachable. i recommend him for this class. all you have to do is listen to his lectures attentively. midterm and finals arent that hard. my sister and I took him for this class. my sis got A- and I got A. hehe.BEST!
To get a good grade, just go to class, pay attention and do the suggested problems. He is very helpful when you email him with questions. And he tries his best to be funny and make the class less boring.
Excellent professor. Not difficult. Just study, and can get a good grade.
very good professor!!! crystal clear!! he is very nice, too.
Prof. Chien is an excellent teacher. He really entertained me. Funny and very approachable. The class is straight forward cause the homework is the exam so know how to do it and you'll be fine.
Make sure to study the problem he gives you over and over again! that's an essential part, if you want to do well in his class. mid-term is alright, if you study.however, final is real killer! you really have no clue where those questions are coming from. so study real real hard. except for that, he is alright
The final is a killer. There are too many questions in the exam. I found it very unfair.
Exams are based on homework, slides, lectures and the textbook. Exams are extremely difficult, no class curve. Avoid at all costs.
He is funny and delivers the materials clearly. His demand is reasonable. However, you MUST read the text to be able to get past the concept Qs.
While his exams are challenging, they are not impossible. You need to read the textbook to answer the concept questions as he does not cover any of the material in class. The calculation problems are very similar to the examples in class / the "homework". You can put them on your cheat sheet and just plug in the numbers. I definitely recommend him!
Attendance must for 5pts (sign in sheet). Midterm allows cheat sheet w/ only things from PPT. Gave a curve for midterm, not final. Do the hws, read txtbk, concept ques are from the details in the txtbk! Exams were not hard if you studied! If there is a chance for extra credit DO IT. I jumped up a letter grade b/c of it. Overall, GREAT prof.
Great professor and a genuine sweet heart. Does his best to get you your maximum grade possible!
He is not as easy as everyone says b/c he doesn't teach ANY concepts. Just MATH. WRITE DOWN ALL FORMULAS ON CHEAT SHEETS! Read book for conceptual M/C Q's. For final he gives Q about three supermarket lines but only teaches 2.. solve in similar fashion.. KNOW THE HOMEWORK INSIDE OUT. This is really a math class. Nothing to do with real life.
Very nice professor...should take him
I really liked him as my professor. Very prepared! Very clear. Never left the class confused. Has a few jokes, keeps you awake. Midterm 45%, final 50%, attendance 5%. Class notes are VERY IMPORTANT. textbook is a must because he does not go over concept questions in detail. Hes pretty tough but great professor.
AWESOME PROFESSOR! makes the class very funny. you're allowed cheat sheets for the exams so all you have to know is how to use the formulas. i loved my 7:45pm to 10:35pm class... i think that says it all
Simply the best! Never had such a great prof, cristal clear lectures, all you need to do is practice problems at home since exam has exactly same questions just dif numbers. And read the book! Half of the exam questions are theory, not based on lecture slides but are easy if you read. Impossible not to get an A, easy but helpful & very interesting!
Very funny professor with great teaching skills. He doesn't cover the conceptual part of the material so is up to the students to do it. Computational part of the exams is based on the homework he gives. If anyone wants to have an A in his class, must read the chapters inside out. I highly recommend him. Great professor with the passion to teach.
He is a great guy, funny, engaging and likes to talk a lot. He is a nice guy and he does allow student's off with a lot of different things if you speak to him and get to know him. Good guy, clear, his test's are difficult but manageable. Only problem with the test is that concepts are out of the book and just random sentences. Recommended!
This professor is very nice, but not helpful at all. Only two tests: midterm and final. Both very tricky and difficult, especially conceptual part which he doesn't cover in class. Prepare to study on your own with the book. Read the book inside out and memorize everything because he will not hint what he will test you on. Difficult class.
Overall EASY CLASS. He said he will teach concept on the first class, but he didn't teach at all.Only Two exam, Computational part is very easy if u know how to do hw. Conceptual part not that hard, if u read the book. highly Recommend him.
While the exams were hard (especially the final), they were doable. Very important to KNOW the homework, copy on your cheat sheet if you can. He also gives you hints as to what will be on the exam. Don't wait till last minute to read the book for concepts unless you're a genius at guessing. Be sure to attend all classes also!
His class and tests are very straightforward. if you find PPT slides online, you don't even have to read book at all. Put everything on cheat sheet. Game over. This is totally time-saver for me. Good luck
I enjoyed his class very much. He's a cool guy - very clear, easy going and pretty funny. 2 exams, case studies, and attendance. Make sure you read the chapters because he only covers the computations in class. 14/29 questions on his tests are conceptual.
Easy B's but hard A. Concept questions are pretty annoying, and you will have to read the book in detail to know them. He is not that easy, but 70% of the test grade can be received if you know how to do the homework. Most people therefore score 80+. 15 Concept questions. Dull subject, but teacher presents the subject in a corny funny way.
he is a great professor, however he is not going after Baruch attendance policy as every policy is a %age of your grade worth. That means that he is taking % off your attendance even though baruch allows you to not attend at least 4 classes! Other than that he really likes what he does, and he explains everything crystal clear! I liked his style!!
Topic is mind-numbingly boring! But considering that, he did a good job. Came to class really well- prepared and communicated clearly. Absolutely nothing is heard in the class but his voice-- no class participation. Also assignments and grading is tough.
1 midterm, 1 final. Lectures are very interesting, clearly explains material.
Professor Chien is definitely one of the best professor in Service Management course. His lectures are crystal clear. He will tell you what to expect in exam. Two exams during whole semester. Easy to pass and Easy to get A. First midterm is very easy but be careful with the final. Study little harder for final, you will ace this class. Nice guy!
He is not nice If you wanna get a good grade stay away from him
Professor Chien is one of the best management professors, if not the best. I have a history of having terrible attendance but he makes me want to come to class cause I know I'm going to learn something. He's really good at what he does. He knows what he's doing. I feel like if I took this class with another professor, I would've struggled
Tests are hard. The problems pretty easy but the concepts are brutal. Prof does not go over concepts in the class and you need to read the textbook. Then he asks the most random and detailed questions on the reading. No curve whatsoever, no extra credit, no homework.
Professor Chien is a great professor in Service Management . Clear lectures and tell you what to expect in exam. 2 exams during whole semester. Need to read a lot to comprehend concepts. Allows you to have a cheat sheet on both tests, but generally these exams are a bit hard. if you don't skip class and follow his instructions you'll do fine.
Good professor. His midterm was alright and you had to read the textbook and do his homework to study for the midterm. That's how you study for this class but his final was horrible it was really hard nothing like the hw
Best professor!! Very intresting lectures, time flies. Attendance is important! Do te HW! He doesn't grade it, but computational part on tests is exactly like hw, ( he explains very good in class how to do it) and he gives partial credit. 30% of tests are concepts from text book. Allows cheat cheet. Some q-s are common sense. Great class!
He's an ok professor. I found the group project (which is submitted online) to be an excuse for him to have a month off from teaching (he cancels class the last month). That said his tests are fair. If you practice the homework, make a cheat sheet (he allows 1) and read the chapters you'll do fine.
His exams are super specific, like tiny little details, so when you read the textbook, and you have to for the exams, literally don't leave out any details. His exams are super hard (70% computational, 30% mc), but watch out for the mc cause those can bring your grade up or down so fast. Go to class or you won't get the easy 70% computational stuff
Good Professor, teaches the subject very well. Test are alright if you study for it and pay attention in class you'll do more than fine.
He's a good professor, exams are pretty tough and expects a lot from you for the exams.
Great prof with lots of energy. Everything is group work based so make sure you have a good team. 5 excel cases, 1 study note paper, Group presentation that you will put on youtube (not in class!). He is super precise on what he wants, if the font's too small or not centered correctly you get points off, etc. Not hard but need to be super detailed.
So he is a decent professor who seems passionate about the topic, however, his tests aren't easy. His tests consist of computation questions and MC. In class, he teaches the computational examples that will be on the test, so you'd just have to review how to answer those questions from the class notes. MC are VERY specific questions about textbook
One midterm, One final and a group project. Lectures are interesting but if you don't attend class, you won't understand the material. His exams are kinda hard because it consists of conceptual questions (from in-depth detail from chapters) plus computation questions (from his slides). Attendance is mandatory. Overall he's a decent and caring prof
Wonderful professor that actually knows how to explain all the assignments in detail.
BEWARE !!!! He makes the subject a lot harder than it needs to be. People dont respect mgt classes and he wants to make sure you treat it like any other major class. Not worth the headache. He teaches well for the first few chapters then he just cant explain the material well after midterm. Stay away
Professor Chien teaches very clear in computation part, concept part needs students to read a lot from text book. But if you understand completely with computation part and do it well, the exam sure will be passed. I still don't have my grade, but I don't rate professor because what grade I get. He is a good Professor.
I cant believe how this professor got a job in teaching mind you, he doesn't know what to teach and what not, if any of the students have a questions it takes him good 5 min to process the question after a long pause he says ok so well i kinda dont know. He is a horrible grader and doesn't care about the students AT ALL!!!
Not only that he doesn't understand what he's teaching and doesn't even know how to teach, he makes the exams extremely harder than they should be and asks questions that are not related to management at all. He literally was asking questions on Statistics on a MGT final! unbelievable. Moreover, he wouldn't miss a chance to deduct points. AVOID!!
He's passionate and clearly loves teaching the material. But his tests are HARD. For reference, I am an A student and this is my first B+. 70% of the tests are computational questions, 30% conceptual questions from the textbook. Class lectures only teach computational, so be prepared to do additional textbook reading.
TEST HEAVY! Your entire grade is based on two exams and he makes the final super difficult. My worst grade in Baruch so far... he doesnt teach anything from the book but its on the test. Concept questions are very difficult. Only teaches computation in class. Avoid at all cost.
Great prof! His exams are not that hard, plus he switched the %, now computational problems 80% and 20%concept. Plus he told us which pages to read from book(its a lot, but manageable) You are allowed to bring 1 cheat sheet. Due to Covid final was open questions-8, but he gave us 4 days to finish. Final 45%, midterm40%, attend5%, excel projects10%
He is the rare gem at Baruch. A professor that actually teaches. The least you can do is read the textbook for concept questions. Just go to lectures and listen. Tests are similar to the hw computations. Genuinely cares and is nice.
The professor is sweet and explains the material very clearly. Make sure to follow the classes since they're what's mostly on the test.
Really great prof. I learned a lot in his class despite being in "Zoom University". One midterm and one final - both based entirely on the quantitative (non-mandatory) hw packets. If you want a good grade, you HAVE to do the hw problems multiple times. Conceptual questions are hard on the tests, but the tests are open book - take good notes!
One of the best profs at BAR. Loved him. I never paid attention in the live lectures but would go back to the recordings and take notes. Hw is optional. The computation questions are the same format as the hw and class examples. He really cares about his students and wants everyone to learn. He doesn't mind going over the material again if you ask.
Avoid him. He seems easy going but he isn't. He is suspicious of everything and thinks all students are cheating on the Exam. Because of that, he makes the test harder and gave us more questions in less time. Even though we have protectors on our Computer he didn't allow us backtracking. The concept Questions are too hard.
Very caring Professor. He explains all computations and concepts clearly, never had any trouble with the material. His exams are very similar to the homework assignments (hws are optional, not graded), but definitely do them for practice. I have only positive feedback and 100% recommend him.
Hard exam. 29 long questions, many calculations. stressful exam because of short time and proctoring system and no back tracking during the exam!!!!! The worst and unfair professor i have ever had.
Super difficult final exam . Don't take him!!!!!
Ignore those claiming that he's bad/unfair. If you aren't willing to put the work in then you won't learn & won't get the grade you want. True that most of the grade is the midterm/final, but the tests are almost exactly like the homework & was open book. He was more than fair, made the concepts much easier to understand, and is a genuine person.
I don't know how anyone could get a "C" or below in this class. Exams (Midterm/Final) consist of 2 parts (16% concept, 84% computation all MC). The computation questions are the same as the homework (Different numbers). The concept questions are based on the readings (It is open book so take notes on paper because a lockdown browser was used).
Let's be honest, this is a difficult course that requires effort in studying and taking the time to do well. Professor Chien is very nice and explains topics thoroughly. Downside is you are graded on just two exams and an SAM portion but if you study you can absolutely receive an A or B.
AVOID. This class is brutal, the midterm and final are 85% of your grade, the SAMS are super easy but they barely help you boost your grade. The professor himself isn't so bad but his tests are just ridiculous and the homework is optional but extremely confusing. This class isn't supposed to be as hard as he makes it out to be. Most of us suffered.
AVOID him if you want to save your GPA. His exams are super hard, too many questions with limited time. I got As from all my accounting classes even the Cost accounting which is the most challenging course at Baruch. It is ridiculous that I got C from this class. He is too mean and makes this class much harder than it is.
You will not do good on the tests as they are extremely difficult. He makes his own questions, tests are on blackboard, no backtracking, and lockdown browser. Midterm+Final make up 75% of the grade which is very test-heavy. Hardest class at Baruch without a doubt. Imagine the class in person. Goodluck
AVOID AT ALL COSTS. Everyone I know taking MGT 3121/ OPM 3000 says it is so easy. This professor makes it insanely hard. It's a computational-based class. 75% of your grade is based on 2 tests that he makes up and no back-tracking. I don't want to say good luck because I'm hoping you won't even consider taking his class.
He's actually great at teaching but his testing policy is just overkill. Midterm and final worth total 75% use lockdown browser and no backtracking allowed because he "can't see us." Conceptual questions are on the most minuscule details. If you have test anxiety reconsider taking him. This class caused me way more stress than it should have
Just don't take him. He is a nice guy, but his tests are unnecessarily difficult for a class that shouldn't be this hard. He does lockdown browser and eliminates backtracking which makes the test hard. The computations aren't bad for the most part but his conceptual questions are brutal. You need to know every word of the textbook to get an A.
What annoys me is that prof Chien isn't even a bad prof. He explains the computations well and is engaging even on zoom. His grading policy is a nightmare. 2 exams make up 75% of the grade and he doesn't curve them. I wish he would grade hw and increase the weighting of the quizzes so that the exams could be worth less.
