You ROCK! :)
If you never have taken an Algerbra class don't take hime, because you're alrea

homework doesn't match test.if you don't understand and ask you feel stupid.
He really helped me with algebra and trig. Made it not quite so unbearable.
Livingston is one of occ's best math professors, don't let anyone tell you otherwise. His class is very understandable, he puts out extra time and effort to tearch and explain therially until you understand.. i love him!
Mr. Livingston is passionate about math, about his students, about life! That's what makes his class so enjoyable! A wonderful man with a great sense of self and clear insights of what things really matter! OCC's best math prof!
You can't even catch him in the class because he is really fast. His tests are nothing like homework. You will be surprised with yourself and say "Did I actually solve these when I was doing the homework or Did we actually cover this in the class.&qu
He doesn't care about his students and if they are learning anything in the class. All he cares is to finish the book early. He doesn't even solve sample problems all he does is to plug the numbers into his TI-90 calculator.
Dr. Livingston is an awesome teacher and has a passion for teaching. He applies all the math we learn to how we would use it in the "Real World" which is pretty interesting.
The tests just don't seem to come from anywhere placeable, especially not the homework. Teaches much too quickly and if you don't make this class your priority you are lost immediatley.
Great teacher, lots of fun, loves to show how math is used in the "REAL WORLD", and is funny. Only thing is you have to buy a $130.00 graphing calc, but it helps out a lot! Very helpful and clear.
Key to getting an A: Don't study anything from the book (homework or review problems). Focus STRICTLY on lecture example problems. Clear lectures. Easy A.
I never seemed interested in math until i took this course. Livingston is an exceptional instructor. His lectures are interesting and keep you interested. He drops your lowest test and if you take notes and do the h.w you'll recieve a good grade.
Tab is one of the coolest math teacher. applies math to the real world. tests are okie...do all your homework assignments have perfect attendance n he'll bump u half a letter grade...a pretty easy class...great teacher!
Tab is a great teacher, he lectures on really interesting topics, i have always hated math, but he makes it really interesting (even in summer). I definitly reccommend him, do all your homework, do not get behind!!!
An excellent teacher. Very clear and concise, and very helpful. Tests are challenging, but with consistant attendance and homework scores, he'll grade you on a curve. First college math course where I've felt I've actually learned a lot.
ruined my perfect gpa, and yet still one of the best teachers i have had. he knows what he is doing and wants you to succeed. his tests are tough because they are mult choice, so the points are all or nothing.
He is a really nice and cool teacher. But his teachings aren't really clear. His tests are hard so don't leave your homework til the last min. But he does curve the final grade.
tab is a cool guy. i really liked how he brings math into everyday terms. do all the hw and you'll be fine. don't miss a class though. he moves fast.
He's a pretty cool teacher i guess but goes a little too fast, if you do not catch up on time then you'll fall behind really quick. Always do the hw, not the last min because it takes alot of time to do each assignments.
Moves way too fast! If you are not good in math do not take him. Tests are multiple choice, so he doesn't give partial credit for any of your work, which screws you. However, very nice guy and has bizarre stories of his travels all over the world
nice guy. must keep up on the hmwk to do well on the exams. he tells you how math is applied in the everyday world.
He is very boring and moves way too fast. He tends to go off the topic and talk about his random trips with his wife. He might put you to sleep. I would not recommend this class unless you are very good or somewhat good at math. He does not allow you to use your calculator on your tests except for 2 problems, which is pretty lame. don't take him!
First Prof. I know that taught math where it made sense for me. Considering it took me 2 tries prior to taking his class. His test are simple and direct. If you study and do your homework you won't have any problems. His stories on where he went on vacation were interesting and thoughtful. He does lecture fast IMO. Overall a great professor.
One of the best math teachers I've ever had. His lectures are incredibly clear and easy to follow, and he lets you know exactly what is expected of you on tests- he even lets the class choose which proof to do on the exam! Yes, he does test by mult. choice, which sucks, but if you study hard and do the hw, you'll do well.
I hated math but Livingston opened my eyes. Best teacher Ive ever had hands down. Will meet with you and help you out with anything. Just do your work and you will pass
Moves way too fast and does all his work in that paint program on his laptop- horribly hard to see and understand. You also have to buy a $200 calculator, learn everything about it, and only use it on one problem per test. We had tutors and we got D's. Very long and Very boring- don't do this to yourself if you dont have to.
This teacher is amazing for my learning style, very visual! I understood every single thing he taught! Go to every class though you miss a lot if you don't!
Clear and concise instructor. My beef with Dr. Livingston is his use of math class as a platform to teach "creation science," which to me has no place in a math classroom despite how feebly he may try to link it to topical mathematics. If this doesn't bother you, take his class. He is a good math teacher.
hes a great teacher...his tests are easy, he explains exactly what is going to be on them and there are no tricks...make sure to stay up with your homework,he'll give you an awesome curve if its all complete and your in class regularly!
he thinks that the earth is really 2000 years old and he will talk about it in class
haha I agree, his "paint" program that he uses just doesn't cut it. I can barely even see the darn thing
tab is rad...i loved looking @ all his vacation pictures...
He's such a wonderful teacher, one of my fav. at OCC. He has so many stories to tell about his travels, and so many pictures of them too. if you decide to take his class sit in the front and talk with him! he's really easy to talk to. and one way or another he will pick on you at least once in the semister. :D and he'll know your name before he doe
He's a great math teacher and also really nice. If you don't get something he will explain it to you very clearly and you will understand it. Tests are fair.

He's an alright teacher. He explains clearly and always asks if anyone has questions. But there's nothing special about him. He's just okay. That paint program is getting on my nerves. Don't sit in the back of the class or you are tempted to just leave at break.
hes good. i hate math. i just suck at it. his tests are fair. never any tricks and he explains material well. he makes it as interessting as possible. hes one of hte better math teachers ive had in life. i would definitly take his class
He is a very good at explaining.
WOW! he is a first class teacher...he is awsome and very handsome...which makes you even pay more attention in class.
Dr. Livingston is the best math teacher/professor I've ever had. He's great at explaning things, he's extremely organized, very reliable, objective, clear, and dedicated. He loves teaching, he loves math, and he's good at it. I wish all math teachers were like him.
He is a great professor that will go out of his way for his students and he loves what he does. He is even publishing his own book/workbook that is cheaper than buying a regualr math 30 book and makes the work a lot eaiser to understand.
If you are a Math buff this is the class for you, if you are more like me and struggle I would not suggest it. He seems like a nice enough guy, but I dropped he skips around and moves fast, he will answer questions but I just feel like a ding dong. YOu can tell he is passionate about the subject so unless you love math find a diff teacher.
Great teacher. Made math somewhat easy. He's writing his own math book. Great guy, great man, great man. He will get to know you, and if you sit near the front, will talk about life with you. He does some great power point displays that coincide with his lessons. You will learn alot! HE IS THE GREATEST MATH PROFESSOR EVER!!!!!!!!!!!
He was an awesome teacher. I hated math before taking his class and now i feel totally confident in math. Very easy class to pass just as long as you show up. He collects the homework but for people who don't do so well on the tests this is great because it gives you a chance to keep your grade up. I would take him again!
OMG! He thinks most of his students has taken his math 010 class and thinks that everyone knows everything allready so he doesnt go step by step with us. Majority of the classmates is struggling.. it doesnt help that he created his own book with nothing for us to look back at besides our class notes which give us step by step and skips a majority o
I have had Uncle Tab for 3 semesters and he really helped me understand the work.
Best Professor Ever!!! I cant stand math... especially during summer school! Yikes! Tab made the class reallly interesting! You'll never again have such a great math Prof!! I highly encourange you to do whatever you have to get his as your math prof.
all i gotta say is, he goes TOO FAST. he skips steps all the time. his hw problems are mostly problems that are not even what he went over. i dropped it.
I took him for MATH 010 too! He's the best professor I ever took for MATH! I always struggle with math but he took his time to help me out. Taking him for summer isn't so bad. You move quick.. so it'll be hard to catch up after missing a class. Talk to him.. if you get to know him on a personal basis.. he'll go easy on you.
I had him for Math 10 and he is the perfect teacher for anyone who stuggles in math. He explains math very thoroughly. He's not one of those teachers who assumes you understand the material right away. He goes over new material very slowly so everyone gets it. I'm going to try to get him for Math 30!
HE IS THE GREATEST MATH PROF EVER! GREAT MAN, GREAT PERSON. MATH 30 WITH HIM IS A MUST TAKE! HE GIVES YOU WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW, TO GET AN A! I HATE MATH, BUT AS LONG AS YOU GO TO HIS CLASSES, AND PUT IN THE EFFORT, YOU WILL PASS! HE ALSO MAKES MATH RELATIVE TO YOU WITH AWESOME POWERPOINT PRESENTATIONS! AWESOME POWER POINT! MATH WILL NEVER BE THE S
I totally struggled with this class! Tab does not explain anything thoroughly, he goes way too fast, skipping steps in between. im a fast learning but i couldn't catch up with this guy! He assumes you already know what he's doing. He's too educated for math 10.
Professor Livingston is one of my favorite teachers at OCC. His Powerpoint lectures are engaging and really help the student learn the material. He is always willing to answer questions and help you if you get lost. He gives a lot of real world applications which help when learning concepts. Overall, great teacher!

good professor. he goes through his workbook fast about 2-3 assignments to complete each sessions & he'll randomly choose which hw to turn in on exam day. to pass yo uhave to come EVERYDAY! you can't rely on others to take notes for you and get a decent grade. if you need extra help he is always happy to help! cares for students!! highly recommend!
This teacher is great, he explains things very well and tells you the "why" of math rules. His homework assignments are short but very helpful.
I learned alot he was always willing to help! Great Teacher!
OK SO I TOOK HIS MATH 010..AND GOT AN A AND WILL PROLLY GET A B IN HIS MATH 30 CLASS.your note book is his textbook.you do have to come to class which is boring..hes not lively enough for me-big classes;dont like that much HE DIGS AZN chicks and countries.and always picks on the black girl KIM..lol..but jk! his lectures like all lectures BORE ME!!!
Dr. Livingston is a great teacher! I had him for two semesters and learned so much! I am horrible at math, but passed with flying colors! He gives you so many opportunities to at least PASS!! Easy points are his book checks at the beginning and end of the year, homeworks about three or four of them and attendance. I HIGHLY recommend him!
GREAT TEACHER! I really enjoyed his classes. I took math 10 and math30 with him. I have never been able to pass a math class with higher than a C until i took his class.. I finally got an A! The catch is you must show up, do the homework, and ask questions if you dont understand something. Thats it. If i could i would take him again!
waste of money on calculator and the book sucks because he wrote it himself. it has no examples that helps on the hw.. goes too fast also. i hate his class.
Tab is a really smart teacher who imparts his knowledge on students...extremly helpful when i needed him to explain the material and can easily find him in his office hours usually.
great teacher. he wrote his own textbook which makes it easier to understand. no surprises when it came to the test. he's crazy about math and very helpful. definitely take him! i would take him again if i could!
great teacher enjoyed going to class tells interesting stories and theories but yea definatly want to take him again if i can
An enjoyable professor to take math with. Fast paced because I took it in the summer. He wrote text book himself (which is only an outline of what you will be doing) Attendance is mandatory! Because you will be writing your own notes directly in the book which you will rely heavily on for tests. Overall, if you put time and effort in, you'll do wel
Really great teacher
not very good at explaining things or answering questions. Not a clear teacher.
early morning class. VERY important to go to ALL of his classes because his book is your notebook you can not learn without it. Very good lecturer. accepts ALL add-ins. pretty strict but very helpful.
An amazing math instructor! Smart, funny, and one of the best teachers I've ever had.
This professor is the best math teacher I've ever had. He really makes sure you understand the material. I'm taking it during winter intersession and I totally get trig. I took it the semester before and failed it miserably. D: Take this prof if you can! So far, I'm passing with flying colors!
The guy is an awesome teacher, you will not be disappointed. His notes are clean and to the point because he writes his own text to teach from and the solutions to the problems are never wrong. I strongly recommend people who need to take Math 120 (Trigonometry) with him, I completed the course in a Winter Intersession!
Kinda a d bag, almost gave me a D, until I checked my grade he realized he made a mistake. Easy . but boring.
Dr. Livingston is a good teacher, his class is very structural and he goes by his word. He drops your worse test score and that is really helpful! I thought he was intimidating at first but he turned out to be a really smart and helpful teacher! I would definitely recommend his class.
CLEAR,CONSICE, FRIENDLY,...He has all the great attributes you need in a teacher. He is THE BEST math teacher I have ever had.
Dr.Livingston is the BEST! I hated math before i took his class and he has brought me back to enjoying it. If you plan on taking ANY Math class at OCC, take it with him and you will not be disappointed. He is also very intellectual and has a lot of real world experience that he shares with his students which makes class very interesting. FANTASTIC!
I've taken Calculus a total of 4 times. Twice I dropped it, because I either wasn't understanding the gibberish or the teacher was going too fast. The third time, I passed, but did not get the grade I wanted. Then I took Professor Livingston's class. He really wants you to succeed, and he has a lot of patience to help you understand concepts.
Very organized and concise. Focused. All the work is in the book and the tests are similar- no nasty surprises. Credit for the homework means that you have to do the homework, but this works to your advantage. I wish he taught higher level classes so I could take him again.
All I have to say is, Dr. Livingston is by far the best math teacher I've ever had. I took him for Math 030, got an A and now for Trig and got a B. He writes his own book which makes him that much better of a teacher! Come to class, b/c notes are key to passing class. Drops lowest exam score not including final. Would take him again if I could! :)
Dr. Tab Livingston is helpful in every way. He wrote his own textbook and we use every page of it not like all of the other college textbooks that we don't even use. He teaches very clear and is willing to help anyone. Ask questions and do good in your tests and homework. He is GREAT!!
Awesome teacher, you'll actually have a lot of fun while learning math. also he doesn't just teach you how to do the equation but where and when you might use it.
Could not stand the man. He wasted so much of my time, literally an entire day (the day before the final!). I came to class to learn math and was time and again taught that (and I quote him ) "evolution is not science." I found it extremely offensive that he squandered my time in order to convince me that evolution was a myth.
Good math teacher. If you take him in summer you must study hard and do tons of homework to keep up. He covers all material but goes REALLY fast. Tests are hard but his grading system is very forgiving. Would recommend him but not for slackers.
I took him in winter for just ONLY 3 weeks omg!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i never even imagined that i would take math just for only 3 weeks but hey i took it with Dr. Tab i made the right choice he is supprr easy and helpfull he grades so easy I was taking an exam for trig i had no idea how to start i just wrote someting n he gave me full pts for it i love hi
Dr. Livingston is SO AWESOME!he uses intermediate steps so that no one will get lost.he entertains all questions & flips back to the problem if u still don't get it.he's very understanding.one time i lost my binder & i had to redo all of my HWs,i only wrote the answers.i knew i wasn't gonna get a perfect 10 but he let me grade my own work!i got a 7
grrr! his class was a waste of time.I even went to tutoring for many hours almost everyday. There were about 25 people remaining in his class towards the end of the semester.i was one of them.he goes to fast.his exams are difficult.i sat really really close to & hardly ever missed his class. he teaching style is confusing.I suggest you not take him.
He goes over chapters too quick. If your not good at it, DONT TAKE HIM!!!
horrible teacher. math is hard for me as is. i took his class twice. big mistake. hard tests i showed up every day had tutoring and it was still no use for this class. DO NOT TAKE HIM.
I took Tab for 010 & 030. Learned more in both classes than any previous class and any class since then. A lot of work, but he'll teach you how to apply the information which is a must for visual learners. I would have taken Trig with him if it was offered at the time.
He is THE ONLY teacher I have ever had for math that actually makes sense( I got Ds and low Cs in every math class ive ever taken - i got an A in his class). he teaches ways where you will actually use math in real life, which is nice! I had him for math 10 and I'm now taking him for math 30. he is the best proffesor one could ask for. take him!
Miss one class and you are DONE. This class goes ridiculously fast. I emailed him, asking what the homework was and what I missed and he responded "Ask a friend". What a joke.
I took this teacher for math 10 and he was easy, you just need to show up to class and pay attention. So i took him again for math 30, but he teaches things too fast. Im not happy with my choice of taking him again.
He is not teaching well. His exams are not the same as his teaching.
his test is way too hard!! you will see quesions you have never seen in class or homework! HE IS HARD!i highly recommend not to take him.
DO NOT TAKE HIM!!!his class is very hard. he goes too fast, and he doesnt grade all of the homework. i thought he was easy and nice teacher so i petitioned for this class, but i shouldnt have taken him.
his class move way toooooo fast, and he doesnt explains well. keep babling on about his air plane in class... total snooze fest. agh!
not a good professor. always goes off topic. i do my homework and pay attention in class and i still dont understand the material
Just use your common sense & it's easy...
He is the best math teacher that I have ever had! I did not have math for 2 years and and needed to start from basically the bottom at math 10, got an A, now I am in his math 30 class. You get to drop one test, 5% added to your final grade if you turn in all the hw and do not miss more than 3 classes. Very fair grader.
Great teacher! Makes math easy to understand. Writes his own textbook and it is imperative to attend all classes if you want to do well in this class. Tests are pretty easy. Highly recommended.
took him for math 10 and 30. He's a good professor but he doesn't do much to help you on a one on one level. His test reviews don't cover all the things that will be on the tests, which can really screw you over. sometimes the lectures can be very boring & you have to do TONS of homework to keep up. take him if you are a hard worker, not an easy A
Tab is a wonderful teacher! I had him for math 10 and now im in math 30 and im also taking him for trig, he is the best math teacher i have ever had. He moves very slowly and explains everything thoroughly. Ive never been so good at math. If you want to learn everything in the level of math that you need and really understand it, take tab.
This class does not have a lot of homework but it does require you to get extra help on the side. It was funny when Mr. Livingston would ask a question about the material and people would look at him with these blank stares. A TI-89 is required for this class so be prepared to shell out the money. It's Algebra! Middles Schoolers do this stuff.
he gets u to attached to a calculator. he makes you get a graohing calc and you use it all the time. also the book is written by him so it doesnt have proper solutions
Tab is a genius. He makes the text book that you use and it is wonderful. He is amazing at explaining things and covers everything you need to know for the next math class you have to take. He really prepares you for the next level. I highly highly recommend him!
BORING! INCOMPREHENSIBLE! TOO MUCH WORK. Take Math 30 online.
Awful professor. He makes the "textbook" for the class himself, which you have to pay around $100 for, when it is just a crappy spiral bound book which is only printed on one side of the paper. You know he is making profit off of it. and it doesn't even have explanations of anything! doesn't teach principles of why things work. not recommended.
The best math teacher i've ever had. Not easy, but he explains everything so well that I think everybody must understand the thing. I got over 100% on each test and never was into math. Since I knew so much from his class, I didn't have to study for 130 at all, it was a piece of cake.
Boringest and horrible PROF. "He makes the "textbook" for the class himself, which you have to pay around $100 for, when it is just a crappy spiral bound book which is only printed on one side of the paper. You know he is making profit off of it. and it doesn't even have explanations of anything! "HIGHLY not recommended.
i'm taking his class and so far it's been great. he makes you understand what you are doing instead of just doing what you are being told to do.
Took him for math 10, 30, and now 120..his math 10 and 30 class was easy because i knew what was going on..and 120 is impossible..sometimes he just assumes you know the material and then just skips over problems..Ill pass the class but had to get a tutor and took a lot of my time..cool guy just kinda difficult!
This class is very hard. he assumes you know what the material is and he puts lots of algebra in his test. last time I checked this was trig not algebra.
@ the beginning I thought I would have to drop the class because he kind of assumes you know what is going on. He doesn't understand it isn't only a review for many people specially if you are coming back to school after 20 yrs or so. I like him. Would take another course with him. He can be very funny. I think he is very intelligent.
Have to buy textbook which is around $100. I will ask the department of a dean if I do not have to buy his book. Too expensive and it's content is not worth for $100. My tutor laughed when he checked his textbook too expensive.
Livingston is a joke. The price of his cheaply made textbook is eighty dollars and is useless. Livingston does nothing but talk about how great he is and how much he travels the world(charging $80 per workbook, I would too) Please don't take him. There are easier/better/more inspiring teachers at OCC
i took him for business calc and was the first math teacher i'd ever truly enjoyed. he is extremely knowledgeable about the subject and genuinely enjoys math. he's willing to help and is entertaining. i would definitely recommend him!!
Great if you want to be spoonfed trig; not so much if you'd prefer to read the text and figure it out on your own. Textbook:PROS-integrates algebra so you won't forget it CONS-it's a workbook not a textbook. You won't learn anything reading it, but you do get to spend $80 for the pleasure.
Livingston is a great math professor. He is very clear, articulates, and takes his time to explain. He seems like a very interesting person. I am definately enjoying my summer class.
Took him for business calc. he went through all the textbook items that he created. the instructions could have been more helpful, but his exams are pretty straight forward. gotta love the individual curve he gives. i would recommend him if you have the ability to teach yourself.
As many have noted, his homemade workbook is a joke. Material in overpriced book is written so that it's filled out as the class progresses, which isn't a horrible thing in most classes, but mathematics requires one to know how to solve one thing before moving on to the next. If for any reason you miss a single class session, you WILL fall behind. I found it extremely hard to catch up after missing class halfway through the quarter and ended up with a 79.97%, which was not raised to an 80%.
If you ask him for help you will get a sarcastic useless answer. This was the last class i needed to get my aa and transfer. It was the only math class open and I got un-lucky enough to end up in this class. came up less than .5% away from passing and he was unwilling to help me to pass the class.
took his last year for trig. makes u buy book he wrote, but its more like a workbook, liked it: straightforward, hw qs & answers in it, & examples. his class seemed to be easy to me, got an A. come to class everyday, & i got an individual curve.
Not easy to understand the he teach class. He always gives example with his own airplane because he owns one and he talks about his plane all the time, show off.
Best teacher ever. He is clear and very percise. If you show signs that you might be struggling he will help you. I recieved a 87% in the class and he bumped it to an A. His textbook is well worth the 80 dollars. The quizzes are not that hard and the exams are straight forward.
He was an alright professor, you have to buy his book that he made which is basically like a workbook. Don't miss days because it is very easy to fall behind. if you need help he is willing to help you out.
Don't miss a class. take good notes do his homework and study and you will pass the class.
Would not likely recommend taking this guy, not very helpful in his office hours, interested in other peoples problems inlife than math. If your white, your alright, if your brown your going down. Hes worried more about retirement than teaching.
Wow this guy was really bad, unless you have a TI-89 Calculator he would not help you. And he was cruel to students who showed up even a few minutes late. Including telling a girl "see you next semester" when she arrived late to the final. Also he made his own textbook therefore you have nothing to compare his notes to. Talks to much about planes..
hard information and his stuff is very mechanical he curves though so thats a plus
Great professor, helped me to understand math! He writes his own books, so everything in them is relevant and helpful. He uses different real life scenarios to make the content interesting, and is very patient when people ask him to explain something again. I loved his classes, and he helps prepare you for the next level of math.
If you have already taken Trig you should be okay if not you will be lost in this class. The text book is pretty much a work book so if you have trouble figuring something out you better have an additional trig and algebra book handy because t
worst teacher ever. all he does is talks about planes and puts them in all his problems. dont take him
I don't understand the poor rating of this Professor. He is the best professor I've ever had. He is very responsible and easy on grading. He's always willing to help his students. Those illustrations that he used are so helpful and interesting. He doesn't curve much but he collects hw as extra credit. I had an A+ in his class, btw.
I don't want to knock the guy too hard because he really does love math, but it's sad because he doesn't seem to understand that not everyone wants to be an engineer. Also, his book is difficult to work with due to the fact that there aren't any examples.
I really like his teaching.. He is so clear!! Trigonometry is really hard but he makes it so easy! I got a B but he gave me an A because he curves the final grade.
His class is extremely hard for trig. His multiple choice exams are very confusing and for the most part, have nothing to do with the notes. His office hours are always busy. Overall, his exams are hard, seems like a generic high school standardized test, not like he actually took the time to make his own.
He's an alright teacher. If you haven't taken trig before, this class will be tough. If you have, this class will be a breeze. His exams are tricky and a little bit harder than his homework. Do the homework questions over and over again until you master it. Attendance is a must.
I took is trig class and at first it seemed alright but it became really confusing really fast. his book sucks b/c there arent examples like a real text book and his tests are difficult unless you've taken trig before. on the upside, he's a nice guy and sometimes funny. unfortunately i withdrew from the class along with many others.
i took him for math 30, which everyone should know is not for math geniuses. he thinks everyone should automatically be great at math, and he is the only math 30 teacher who makes u use a graphing calculator, which he barely expains how to use. he also gets frustrated when u ask him to explain something. needless to say i withdrew from that class
If you like getting D's and F's I Recommend this Class. Overall a horrible professor and makes you buy a book that is 80 bux that is worthless. I took trig in HS i got an A. This guy barely passing. O ya doesnt let u use calculator on test.
amazing teacher... those who wish to just "go through the motions" do NOT take him, he does "maintenance" problems so you can remember your algebra concepts before going onto pre-calculus. Got an A easily.
Try to avoid him! Get on waitlist for other teachers. Livingston accepts everyone, even petitioners, so don't worry. I bet he does this, because half will drop this class by the end of semester. Also you have to buy his freaking expensive book for 100 bucks. It's like a cheap book from a copy store.
I have ALWAYS gottan A's on all my math classes, and sadly I got my first B ever. This is the first time I take trig. His tests are super hard and tricky. He said he wanted to give us individual curve, if you have perfect attendance and homework, which I had. Guess I didn't get it.. I even had tutor once a week. Sigh..
His class is extremely difficult. Half of the people dropped after the second exam. Sure his notes are fairly simple to follow, but what kills people are the exams. They're difficult, most of the questions aren't even in his notes. His maintenance problems are useless, this is trig not algebra.
He goes extremely fast which is terrible if this is your first time taking Trig. Getting a C or B is pretty easy if you DO the homework but he also makes you do Algebra also. If you have trouble graphing he will not help you unless you buy a TI-89 which is $150. Attendance is mandatory if you want him to curve your grade and drop your lowest test.
I payed 80+ for a terrible textbook he wrote and 150 for a mandatory TI89 calculator and I probably won't pass the class. Wish I had read his ratings before I registered on this one. I won't even ask him questions. Those who have in class were basically told to reread what he wrote in his book. Assumes we should already know what he is teaching.
1) Makes you buy a $80 one-time use, printed book in cheap binding. 2) You need a TI89 calculator... yes... for Math 30, another 80+. 3) Don't dare be a minute late, you will be dropped. So the investments on the book and calc go to waste. 4) Very monotone, its hard to stay awake, and goes through material in a blink of an eye. I regret getting it.
He is very smart and knows exactly what he's talking about, however, he assumes that you would know the same material as him. First day of class I was lost. Due to the fact that I have not taken math for a year and a half, he goes through the material very quickly, for those who has a very strong math background would do great but those who don't..
He's very fast pace with the lectures and I found myself confused with a lot of the homework problems that I couldn't do even with his help. The tests are VERY difficult. I tried my very best with outside help/tutoring and still couldn't pass his class in the end =(
If you are the type that likes to be challenged, take this class. If you have never taken trig before, just like others have said, this class will be pretty tough. His exams are almost nothing like his hw or even his notes. I had a tutor every week, and went to the tutoring center every day and I'm still struggling. I've never had to try so hard.
Business Calc. He goes through the lessons very quickly. 3 exams, 1 dropped, 1 final. Only one section of the homework is collected on test date, he doesn't tell you which one. TI-89 calculator required. PAY ATTENTION AND GO TO CLASS. Take his class if you are willing to work for your grade.
Worse teacher ever! what kind of teacher gives you problems you can't solve w/out a calculator. please be wise picking a better instructor and stay away from this guy.
At the beginning of the semester, I was highly intimidated by his mechanical/ sophisticated materials and even failed the first test, but as the semester went by, I started getting used to the difficulty level. I realize he's only making it challenging to better prepare us for precal. I have a B right now, but I worked so hard for it.Work hard.
he is terrible! please tell your friends to stay away from this guy!
I never struggled math this badly until i had Livngston :( his lecture is easy and so is the hw, but his tests completely screw you over. I tried really hard to studying for his tests but his problems on the tests are really difficult to solve, please don't take him unless you hate life. sadly i had to find out the hard way :(
Class of 180 fell to just 45. So, vote with your feet. I'm not sure what I learned, but you will find it compares poorly with a professional's instruction. Everyone was getting a tutor.
worse instructor ever! i always get A's and B's in my math classes until i took his class. i tried so hard studying for the exams, i even took tutoring and still did not help. i completely understand the whole concepts of the class but his exams really screwed me and other hundred people over.
One of the best math professors I've had. His lectures spoon feed the material to you, though his tests are filled with quirks. Challenging at times, but definitely a class to pass. Puts large emphasis on reiterating the material so that you understand. He takes a very applied standpoint to his lectures and concepts, engaging you into the course.
For the 1st time i dont like my math teacher At the beginning of the semester, It was fine Graphing he will not help you unless you buy a TI-89 Graphing calculator, which he barely expains how to One of the best math professors I've had. :(:( Try to avoid him! take another teacher
I hadn't taken a math class in 9 years. I was intimidated at first, but he explains things really well. His book is a great way to study. Do the homework and show up for class and he drops your lowest test score. You do need a graphing calculator, but he did help people with other models during class. My class didn't have that many drop either.
not a good math teacher at all, his homework is easy and stuff but his exams are like wow, seriously. most questions from the exams weren't from the text book and he gives you problem you can't solve w/out a calculator. take another instructor if you don't want to put up with that. giving you problems you didn't study for like who does that?
One of the best math teachers I've ever had! Most math teachers know their subjects but do not teach well. He explains everything thoroughly, step by step and does not expect you to already know everything! Has many stories to share about how he has applied math in real life situations. You can tell he has a passion for spreading knowledge.
Best professor I've had in a long time. First prof since coming back for my 2nd BS. Very: clear, helpful, patient, organized, kind, etc. Do the work he clearly requires and study. College isn't supposed to be a show up here's an A. He makes you think for yourself. I didn't have a Ti-89 and I did fine, he helped me. Take him - you won't regret it.
Dr Livingston is a great teacher he know what he is one of those teachers who loves their job. He even gives you real life examples of when you'll use the math in real life. Just as long as you do all your homework and do good on the tests (Usually only 15 questions) you will do great in the class ! i loved him and I plan on taking him again !
Dr. Livingston was precise, clear, helpful and not an easy teacher for students looking for an easy A without doing any work. Completing the homework is essential to understanding the material and earning an A. With satisfactory attendance, the lowest test score is dropped. Livingston is passionate about the subject and wants you to learn.
Go to class and be there on time, he likes to drop people who are late. HW isn't that bad, he provides the answers so you just have to show your work. Make sure you do every lesson though cause he picks one at random at the end of the week. He's kinda ocd but funny and a good prof! Failed every quiz and test except the final and passed with a B :)
He is nice, funny, hand some :) i love his class. If u want an A, do all the homework and attend in class everyday. But dont be shy to ask if u dont understand bc he go really fast. I got A easily
He is the best professor ever
memorize unit circle.which he doesnt teach helps a ton! buy the book the first day.dont be late not even 5 secs late he locks the door. go 2 every class. he is a good teacher overall although i dont feel he prepares u. his tests are fair.make sure to know your algebra b4 this class he tests on it.Study & make note cards its a lot to remember!
Great teacher. Learned a lot. I highly suggest taking high. He does use this class to expound his right-wing conservative christian views, though. Just a heads up.
I enjoyed this class very much. prof. livingston loves teaching math and it makes you love learning. he explains everything very well but the tests are alil tricky but if you study hard you will do well. I am very good at math but still i had to study hard to get an A. book is extra cridit and if you are late he locks the door.
he is okay but dont take him if you cant study your self
I hate math. Somehow Doc has made going to class enjoyable for me. Best professor I've ever had. Homework is really important. 4 tests, drops lowest. Plan on taking his Trig class as well.
Livingston is my favorite OCC teacher thus far! Very well spoken, clear in his teaching, and a genuinely nice guy. He accepts anyone on wl and offers plenty of extra credit :) also he doesn't impose his beliefs on you, like other posts mention. He gives you accurate math and helps apply it to real life scenarios. He's the head of math for a reason
i took Tab for both math030 and 120 and he is beyond the best teacher i've ever had in my life. you have to be on time and be there every class day! if you show up everyday he will drop you're lowest test score. if you're struggling go see him and he will make you're life so much easier. i recommend taking Tab. :)
Very disappointed! He gives vague explanations & wrote the $100 txtbook(required) as well, which also gives little info.?'s on tests are much harder than you're ever exposed to in the hw. Spends a large portion of class talking about things unrelated to math & skips helpful examples. Has cocky attitude & doesn't even provide syllabus w/ test dates!
Doc Livingston is a great teacher. He made his own text book for the students. He is very good at explaining and if you don't understand he can help back track from your point of view to see where you went wrong. loved his class.
4 HW's due are 10 pts. Finished book is worth 20 pts, 10 EC for having it on time. 4 tests which are 100 points each. Drops one and curves final. Class is hard but his tests are doable. Don't listen to the people that say the tests are nothing like HW. They are worded and laid out different but same material! I got an A but studied hard! Go to SSC!
Really great teacher and great class! Definitely the most rigorous course I took at OCC, but I learned so much and found it to be extremely worth it. He gives you a great foundation for future math courses. Very hard tests, but if you truly understand the material you can do well.
Most rigorous course I took at OCC, but he is an incredibly teacher and the course if so beneficial. The rigor of this course prepares you for higher math classes in the future. The tests are definitely hard, but if you truly understand the material you can do well. Lots of critical thinking, but definitely worth while!
Doc is one of my favorite teachers of all time. He finds practical ways to present the course material. Never done very well in math, but I excelled in his Math 120 class.
I wasn't happy about taking Trig, but Doc got me through. He's friendly and helpful, he actually cares for his students. His stories relate to the problems and they're great. Yes he wrote the book and it's GREAT! Moved a little fast for me but I'm a slow poke. He is COMMITTED to your success 360%!! Take him if you want to be prepared for Pre-Cal!
Doctor Livingston is absolutely Fantastic; very clear, thorough & most importantly interested in YOUR success. Defiantly a challenge, he will push you to the limits of your understanding on both new,& old (algebra) material. Taken him since A10 & fully appreciate the approach, where such a horrible subject is made interesting.
He is the BEST teacher ever I hated math until he was my teacher who showed me that it really does apply to life in many different aspects. It was my first summer class and I passed with him. AMAZING, FUNNY, AWESOME :) TAKE HIM!!!!
Dr. Livingston's style of teaching is definitely not for everyone. He is orthodox about his ways and is not very helpful when approached. He almost seems annoyed if you don't get his problems. He does not use the unit circle. Nevertheless, many students swear by his method, seems like a nice guy but his method was just not for me. Good luck!!
Dr. Livingston is a very unique kind of instructor. He very much values your success, but he does not hand it to you. I studied pretty hard in his class for the A but it allowed me to learn material more difficult than the average class. Extremely useful if going up the calc chain. Again, great professor, take this class if you want to LEARN math.
Don't take his class! Attendance is mandatory and his EXPENSIVE "WORKBOOK" is mandatory. The book is around $100 and CAN'T be resold as it is only for that semester. His teaching method is a complete joke. He doesn't help students when they ask questions. Take another class where you will at least use a cheaper book and be helped the right way.
Dr. Tab is the best math professor ever. he is very helpful and he tells you exactly what to study for the test. STUDY his book! it helps A LOT. I've had him for 3 semesters and gotten an A+ in each.drops the lowest test score if you are on time and don't miss class. do all the homework as it will help you on the test.he has many adventure stories!
Mr. Livingston, or by his nick name Doc. is a excellent teacher. His teaching methods are great. my advice is to go to class every day if your taking a 8 week class or you will miss something. in addition to good attendance, he drops a test. looking forward to more of his classes in the future.
Professor Livingston prepares you for higher level math courses! Be warned that his class is not easy and many students do poorly on his tests and drop the class. However, his tests are fair they are not exactly like homework problems, but if you understand the concepts that are clearly displayed you will do well on his tests. 3 tests and a final.
Happily, I will never forget this teacher. He is amazingly smart! He purposely teaches you more than you need to know. At first it was annoying but in they end, just like he says, "you'll thank me for it later." I took him for 3 semesters and he made me interested in math.
Love him!! He will always be more then just a teacher to me.
He is a very good math teacher if you enjoy math you'll enjoy the problems he gives. He is very clear you just have to pay attention. He has pretty interesting math lectures. You always have to be present if you want that A to understand all the material thoroughly. His tests aren't easy but they aren't hard at all. His class will really help.
I love Doc L. He takes his adventures and turns them into math problems. He explains things clearly and helps out you, if you're willing to put in the work. Keep up on homework, come to class, study and you'll do fine.
He is a very good math teacher! His lectures are clear and he prepares you for your next class. If you need to continue on the math road, he is the professor to take! This class was not at all "easy" but we didn't have a high drop rate, he drops one of your exam scores so it really helps you to study. Taking him again in the spring.
Doc is a great professor. Not the easiest professor, however, show up to class, take good notes and stay on top of your game. Hard work will pay off. This class is not for lazy students that want an easy A. Lots of homework and practice problems. Take what you need, he will give you lots of input.
Doc is the man. His lectures are remarkably crystal clear, and he's very interested in his students success. His tests are not very easy and many students complain his lectures don't fit his tests, that couldn't be further from the truth. This guy truly tests your mathematical comprehension. Take him if you want to LEARN math. Go to the SSC.
Okay, the syllabus is not clear. It's not clear on attendance nor test schedules. You HAVE to buy the book because its a workbook. If you are a minute late--and I literally mean 1 minute--he marks you absent. More than 3 and he drops you, despite it being a 3 hour class twice a week. He does prepare you for higher-up calculus classes though.
His examples and his book helped to learn the material
Very well structured class. He wrote the textbook, and you go through and fill it in throughout the semester (my book is now a goldmine of notesapplications). He's great at explaining concepts in a clear way, and doesn't get frustrated at all when kids ask the same questions over. He wants you to succeed. Overall great guy, interesting, TAKE HIM!
Requires his TextWorkbook however it's very useful in class. DO ALL YOUR HOMEWORK. Don't fall behind. Lectures are pretty fast pace but he does prepare you for Calc 1.
the best math teacher, divides down the difficult problems and turns them to be very easy, grades fairly, most of the class got either A or B
took him fall 14 Best Math teacher that I ever had! he is super crystal clear with his material, but he tests are intensely hard, I did learn a lot thou! Book is a must. I would take him again thou. Be aware of punctually, you just be there in time, specially if you need some extra points at the end of the semester!
one of the best math teachers at OCC. His test are not easy, but not tough as long as you understand your homework. Highly recommend.
This is the only professor I have written a review for because I respect him. Anyone who enters this class thinking they'll pass without trying (seriously) and attending lectures is in for a wake up call. Easily the HARDEDST class I've ever took but also the most rewarding. 3 exams w lowest dropped, e.c. opportunities, & takes ppl on waitlist.
FANTASTIC teacher. Excellent at explaining concepts and always made sure to answer any questions to clarify, as long as you put the work in, it's easy to pass with a good grade. Great classroom control & he even show's how the math applies in the real world, to give students a more in depth understanding. Don't like math, but still loved the class!
you have to do all the hw, this includes the maintenance work and have a thorough understanding. then you will pass with a B
Doc, that's what we call him. Awesome great teacher, gives crystal clear lectures, makes math fun, relate math to everyday life. Do the homework will be fine during tests, tests are fair, final pretty easy. Would definitely take him again, maybe Math 140. Awesome professor wants students to succeed! Took him for Math 120 and 170.
Sweetheart of a guy. Hard to meet a professor that wants you to succeed as much as him. His personalized, write-in textbook will guide you, work hard on it. Lectures are engaging, passionate and irreplaceable. Recording helps. Don't skip ANY! RECOMMEND the TI-89 calculator. It's what he uses to teach. Don't lag on the HW, class moves along quickly.
YOU HAVE TO TAKE DOC!!! He makes math actually make sense, and lectures are entirely interactive. You NEED the textbook as you write all your lecture notes inside. Homework is graded just on completion. He has plenty of office hours if you need help. Get a TI-89 as he uses it during lectures. Curves your grade if you miss less than 3 classes
It is so rare to have a professor that cares so much for his students. I am horrible at math and he really broke everything down for us and gave examples as to why math is important. He is always there for questions and he really makes the time for you if you can't make his office hours.
Super nice/friendly teacher. The tests are easy b/c he grades on a curve. The class is easy IF you study. He will definately help if you ask, if not go to the success center! His lectures are so long and boring though. Bring snacks to keep youself awake!!
We call him Doc, Doc is one of the best professors in OCC. At the beginning you're going to find some difficulties in his class. He is very friendly, interesting and he teaches you math and how it can help you in life. He prepares you well to Calculus. Take him but study day by day or do not take him. I wish if he teaches Calculus.
Tab is the man! I had little no knowledge in Math at all. I started in math 010 and 030 one semester and rode Tab all the way through Business Calc. His classes are not a given but if you show up to class and participate you're passing the class guaranteed. He helped me relearn math and I just finished Calc 2 within 2 years of starting math010!!!
Terrible teacher. I earned a c and got an a . learned nothing
He's probably the best math teacher at OCC, and the best choice for freshman. The subjects he teaches are of course difficult, but he does his best to help you understand it. His textbook are the core of his class, all his lessons and homework are in it.
if you want math to be easy for you take his classes. He walks you through and maintains your background learning info pretty good!
Really awesome professor, although his class is difficult it will prepare you for the world of Pre Calculus if you take it serious. He is also pretty funny and cracks some good jokes every class. He also drops lowest test score, and cures generously. p.s I would recommend getting a ti 89 causes something you will hear every class is "Ti 89 users"
A truly exceptional professor. I took doc for math 120 and I'm currently taking him for 170 and I wish I could take him for 180. Prof. Livingston is the best math instructor I ever had. Not an easy class but his lectures are crystal clear, if you pay attention in class and do the HW, you can easily get an A. And more importantly doc truly cares about students and wants them to be successful and gives great advice on how to succeed in life.
He's very inspirational imo, though he makes you buy the book that he wrote and some of the hw were not covered in lecture nor notes. He usually review you one day ahead before the test and his tests are easy if you study and do your hw, 3 tests, drop 1 lowest score, 1 final exam.
Professor Livingston is the best teacher you can have! He is caring and willing to help you if you ask. Very humble too. He closes his door right at 8 am. He takes role everyday. Grade is based off of 2 tests, final test, 4 homework checks, and 2 textbook texts. Easy A if you study. Doesn't require you to buy a TI-89 calculator, but its preferred.
I cannot speak highly enough of Doc. He makes math easy by fully explaining concepts and writing out each step. He shows how algebra is used in everyday life. He wants you to succeed, not just at math but at life. Don't be turned off by his strict attendance. Show up to class, pay attention and listen to his advice. You won't regret it.
He gives out 2 homework assignments every lecture. Everything is based in his lecture notes. Very good professor, would absolutely take again.
Doc is a great teacher. He honestly loves his job.
Great professor. Gives examples of math problems in real life scenarios so it helps students understand the problems. I took him for inter. algebra and look forward to take him for calc!
Amazing lectures! He cares about his students and makes sure you understand the material best math professor I've had so far. Attendance matters for the notes because you have to fill it in. But if you can get the notes from someone else you'll be fine. Homework all in workbook so purchase the workbook. Not an easy A but manageable if you study.
Math is my weakest subject. At first, I was frustrated by the repetitive trial and error it took to correctly finish his homework. Soon I realized that by simply doing the tedious homework problems, I was finally able to learn! This man emphasizes business practices , such as promptness- don't be late. Only take him if you're serious about school.
By far the best teacher at occ. I had him for a120 and a170. His lectures are golden and explains the material very well. He also accepts everyone who waitlisted the class.
Doesnt take the time after class to go over stuff with you because hes worried to get to his next class. He counts tardiness as absences which doesnt make any sense. Even if youre not absent just your tardiness counts as absences which later causes you to be dropped.
Livingston is overall nice and easy. The only thing is that sometimes when giving lectures he won't write out specific steps and when working out practice examples we go from basic problems to much more complex ones without much mathematical explanation. But he is overall great for those who struggle with math
he request a 100 dollars book written by him and if you buy that book he gives extra credit i dont like that.
First of all, an expensive textbook and calculator will be required for any college math class. Duh. I appreciated that he took the time to make a customized Trig textbook for us, it was easy to follow along and look back at for homework. He explains things very well, is a fair grader & offers easy extra credit, over all an amazing math professor!
A very good and conscientious instructor. Requires a book and graphing calculator. Which isn't a big deal because if you plan on continuing math education you will need a good graphing calculator. His book is around $100.00 and very easy to follow. Would 100% take his class again. Do what he says and you'll pass.
You have to bring the textbook, which he wrote, to every class meeting. He gives way too much homework per night. The exams are hard, and he'll expect you to remember stuff from previous math courses.
Hes pretty awesome he does personal curves depending if you have perfect attendance or not. I would recommend him. Even though his textbooks are expensive.
the way he grades is self explanatory. You NEED the textbook he makes himself. How he teaches is straight up but he can honestly be very rude and make you feel dumb for having a question. But if you put in the work, his class is an easy A.
He is such an interactive teacher, if you don't understand something, he is more than happy to go over it. He gives a decent amount of homework, enough to allow for you to retain the information. The only downside is that he writes the textbook and it is mandatory that you purchase it. It cost me about 90 bucks
Great professor! Although his book is expensive, I appreciate the work that was put into it for our lecture notes. He will help you if you have trouble with anything, so dont hesitate to ask questions. The class wasnt too hard, just takes effort. I definitely recommend taking him!
I took his Business Calc class, and it was my favorite math class I had ever taken. The "textbook" is basically a stack of lecture notes, and he tailored them around how he teaches. He walks you through every problem, shows all the steps, and is always available to answer questions before, during, and after class. You won't regret taking his class.
Amazing professor. I failed Geometry three times in High School. His class definitely instilled a stronger work ethic in me. Don't expect him to spoon feed you everything. You have to work for your A. Make sure you have a good grip on Algebra. Understand the fundamentals; do and understand every homework problem. Gives a generous curve.
Took him Freshman year and his textbook really helped me to understand the topic. He leaves the gaps in his textbook which he creates himself and will go over all aspects of the textbook bar a few problems and I believe this helped me get the A.
Took his class during intersession and loved it. Not only does he get into detail about the math problems that we do, but he gives us real life examples of where we would use this math. He wants all of his students to pass, don't be afraid to ask questions. Show up everyday on time and do ALL of the homework. His textbook is easy to follow.
Took this math class during intersession because I wanted to move up faster. Honestly, the professor is actually really chill and he has a good vibe. His teaching is relaxed and he doesn't make you feel dumb when you ask questions. He made Alegbra II really easy. I wish he was teaching pre-calculus because I would take him again if I could.
Prof. Livingston cares and tries to help students out. No matter who you take, BusCalc is hard. You learn a brief overview of Calc 1,2,3 in one semester. He breaks things down in class & everything seems easy. friendly tip is to do the hw the day it's assigned no exceptions. At least start it or do a few problems. It makes a big huge difference.
Dr. Livingston is hilarious, his jokes are underappreciated in my opinion. I took him for A120 and im regretting not taking him for 170. Great teacher, easy to follow, good feedback, test are trickier than homework, could work on his handwriting XD. Pay attention and really make sure you understand ALL the homework and you'll do great!
He charges over $100 for his "textbook", which is just a glorified binder. He doesn't stay after class to help students and expects you to show up before 8 am for help. Whenever I asked for help, he went way too fast and rushed me. I had to figure out how to use my Casio calculator on my own because he just couldn't use anything but a TI-84.
Prof. Livingston was the third professor I took BusCalc with, so to say I was at my last straw with the subject is an understatement. His textbook (which he writes himself) and his lectures are what finally got me through this class! Great teacher, but get ready to work for that A! I highly recommend taking him for this subject, you won't regret it
Professor Livingston is the best math professor Ive ever had. He teaches the material in a very clear way and always makes sure people are following the lecture. He uses a lot of real life examples which made the material easier for me to understand and appreciate why Id ever need to know it. Hes pretty funny and easy going. Definitely take him!
He didnt give us any time to submit our assignments and was inconsiderate.
He grades hw based on a check. Before each unit test he selects one section of hw that you submit, you arent told ahead of time which section it is. Once he tells you, you have about 15 minutes to upload or you get a zero, NO EXCEPTIONS. I will say that if you like slow thorough lectures, he is your teacher, but otherwise, I hate him.
Does not accept late work. If you have technology issues, avoid this class. Turning in assignments and exams are under a couple a minutes. Very inconsiderate with people who struggle turning in assignments.
I have been out of school for 5 years and returning I took 120 with Prof. Livingston. I highly appreciate his algebra maintenance in the homework to prepare us for calc (which 5 years later is mostly lost to me!). If possible, I would take him for pre-calc and calc! There are 3 exams, 3 homework checks, and 1 extra credit hw. Lowest exam is dropped
chill teacher, 3 exams in total worth 100 points each (he will drop your lowest test), 3 homework checks (worth 10 points each), and 1 notebook check worth 20 points. If you pay attention, you will pass. His textbook was quite pricey, but helpful; he takes some problems from the book and puts it into the test.
Inconsiderate when it comes to turning in work and will not accept an exam if not submitted on times. People were crying during a zoom call bc they were having WiFi issues and didnt even let them turn it in because the assignment was locked and they couldnt turn it in.
An average Zoom class will look like this. He selects usually 4 to 5 people to have their mics on. He shows us how to do it and gives us a few problems to do as a class. He then gives one to work on by ourselves. He's pretty good but, I wish he would more considerate when comes to submitting test and hw since there are tech issues that might come.
Dr. Livingston was the worst math professor. SUPER INCONSIDERATE. He does not care about his students learning and/or their success. Requires you to buy an overpriced book that was NOT helpful at all. Forces you to keep your camera on for each class session when his was completely turned off! Overall I would NOT recommend him.
In my opinion, Professor Livingston is excellent if you're looking to enhance your math skills. The only way you can really master math is by practice, so there is no surprise that the work will be a bit rigorous. He does make math easy and understandable. Though turning in HW online is a bit stressful, as you only have a 15 minute period to do so.
Spends more time talking about himself than going over the subject. Comes off very cocky. Extremely fast paced & makes you feel like an idiot if you ask him about it. I honestly felt like I had to muster up the courage to ask questions. Overall, listening to his constant humble brags got super annoying when all I wanted was to learn the math.
Doc is great at guiding you thru hard problems, he consistently answers questions, and he drops your lowest test score. His stories are amazing and timed well to break up the dense lectures. Internet issues will hurt you due to his narrow submission times. If you are a serious student and engage with him, he will go out of the way to help you.
Avoid this instructor. Tab Livingston doesn't go out of the way to help you if you're serious. You're forced to buy his personal workbook that provides inadequate instructional information. Why the college allows this is baffling. Stories are inappropriate in Math when students need to learn about math. Internet issues hurt low-income individuals.
The class was tough, and sometimes he goes a little fast, but he is a very nice guy, and he does care. If you struggle with math I wouldn't take him, or prepare for a lot of work. I recommend participating in class and going to office hours.
This professor was ok. He was caring and helpful, but sometimes his teaching was hard to follow. The homework was also spot-checked. You did all the homework for the unit (maybe around 5 chapters), then during class, he told you what single chapter to upload, and you only had 10 minutes to do so.
heavy homework with 10 minutes to upload, he does not tell you which chapter to upload until the day of. 4 homework checks, one midterm, and a final. He speeds through the lecture, a lot of work. Requires camera on or mark you absent. Tests is very tough, 1o questions but very long, time limit of an hour and 20 min ish. Late uploads get half credit
Worst math teacher Ive seen in my life. Too busy trying to flex on everyone instead of teaching. Technologically inept in every aspect, will blame the issues on you and grade accordingly. This guy is mentally stuck in the Stone Age of mathematics. Run in the opposite direction of this prof.
Zoom meeting with camera on for attendance. 4 random homework checks per semester, one midterm, one final. homework is very long but doable. Have to buy the textbook HE made personally. lecture are easy to follow, fill in the blank notes. End of semester curve based on attendance, participation and homework completion.
Math is always hard and Prof Livingston makes it even harder. He talks about political stuff all the time and hes super conservative. It gets a little weird considering that this is a math class. It also stinks that we have to buy his book. Why is he making extra money off students? I work FT and it stinks that I pay him $150 extra to teach me!
I don't understand why everyone is mad they have to buy the textbooks it's like less than 80 vs 200 for big-name books participation matters homework manageable only complaint little intimidating tests are open notes If you ever wonder when you will use an application in the real world he will answer it lots of examples 9.3/10 give him 100% with it
One of the most caring and down to earth professors I have ever had. Extremely funny, and truly wants to see all of his students succeed. He gives every student the opportunity to do well in his class. Lots of homework, but they adequately prepare you for the test if you consistently do them.
The god complex on this guy is insane. And I just find it so wrong that we have to spend $100+ on his "book" which is just like a fill in the blank version of notes. AND he took time out of class to ask us how we feel about getting vaccinated which I don't think is appropriate. The only plus is he teaches well he just has a horrible personality.
Extremely funny, and truly wants to see all of his students succeed. He gives every student the opportunity to do well. Lots of homework, but they adequately prepare you for the test if you consistently do them. I recommend participating in class and going to office hours. Attendance/Participation/HW Checks=Individual curve end semester! 9.5/10
chill and easy if you do the work. i recommend doing the hw right when he assigns it so that you don't have to procrasinate. there was 1 midterm and 1 final exam which were both pretty easy! he allows open note exams but time is very limited. we're required to buy his textbook which is around $100..super expensive.
Doc skips most of the algebraic steps in his lectures which can get you lost quickly, so ask questions if you need to see all the steps done. His "book" is pricy! Midterm & Final are 100 pts (open notes/book), 4 hw checks which he picks out 1 chapter to check out of 4-5 hw's - make sure you do all the hw! Sometimes 1 hw took me 2hrs to complete.
I have not taken a math class in 6 years, but after his class I feel very prepared for calculus. His textbook gives a clean not taking format that allows you to focus more on the lecture. 4 hw checks, midterm, and final make up all the grades; so there is little room for procrastination. Lectures with a great passion for math and his students.
The homework load that we receive compared to how much he grades seems like a lot of time gets wasted onto homework and he never responds to any emails. He picks one section randomly out of the 11-12 sections for each hw check worth 10 points each. The midterm and final are worth 100 points each. His textbook looks cheap but is expensive ($140).
He is an okay professor but I wish he explained more in his lectures. You have to buy his book that he provides. You have two exams (midterm and final) worth 100 points and you have four homework checks which is irritating because he only chooses one section and gives you ten minutes to submit. Who goes on to many tangents. Takes long to respond
Doc's book is pricey and he does like to talk about himself a lot; however, he's a good professor at the end of the day and keeps things very simple and straightforward. He does a great job of making the subject palatable and he keeps things interesting as he isn't a dull lecturer. My only complaints are the book price and his occasional narcissism
Doc is a good teacher and his zoom meetings were pretty easy to follow along with, but there are only two tests and about four homework checks the entire semester so you really need to be on top of your stuff. The syllabus also states grading is based on completion but that was just not true.
You have to buy his book and takes notes in it. There are 4 HW checks for the semester that are graded on correctness (not by completion). It's a span of 10 chapters that you have to do but he only checks one of the 10 randomly. Very HW heavy and stressful. 1 midterm and 1 final that heavily weigh your grade. Doesn't respond to emails. DO NOT TAKE
He sometimes says weird right-wing political stuff but is one of the better math profs here. You have to buy his book and take notes in it, but it was genuinely very helpful. Your grade is based on a few tests/HW checks and he doesn't do extra credit or late work. If you're good at schmoozing profs he'll love you. He yaps a lot but is friendly
very generous with grading; he only does 4 homework checks for 10 points each and looks at completion (make sure to show all your work for full points). There's only 2 exams so it seems stressful, but he gives A LOT of partial credit for questions even if you get the answer wrong. He also curves your end-of-semester grades.
The class is quite homework-heavy, but the professor breaks things down well in lectures if you engage. Using unstuckstudy ai and the free textbook helped me stay on top of the material.
Don't take this class. He makes you buy HIS "textbook" that he "authored" but its not useful or a real textbook. It's $150 and a complete scam. I shouldv'e dropped this class the second I was told that. He does homework checks every few weeks and selects one at random, and if you dont have that one you get a zero. He also does not teach or curve.
I would recommend this teacher if you have good self-discipline. Your grade is dependent on 7 assignments throughout the semester with 2 of those being midterms. He is super generous when grading your midterms. Homework can take up to 2-3 hours per chapter. For the extra credit/final textbook check you only have to have the notes he gave in class.
Tab was a great professor. I've never been good at math ever but his way of teaching was very effective, and his text book follows exactly what is on the midterm and final. If you just pay attention in class and do the homework you'll pass. He is very very lenient with grading on the midterm and final, if you write anything you'll get credit.
Professor Livingston is horrible. He makes you spend $150 on a "textbook" he wrote. Don't bother buying a cheaper graphing calculator that isn't the same brand he uses because he won't be able to help you use it. He isn't accessible outside of class and expects you to basically teach yourself the math.
Took calc 1 and it was hard but the test problems were the same at the textbook. He does make you buy a $150 book he wrote, but it was very helpful and understanding. He is funny and cares about his students. He reviews before the test so you know exactly what is on it. I really liked his class just study from his book and you will be fine.
