New to UW but a very good teacher. She genuinely cares about the subject and her students. She knows the material well and facilitates students forming their own ideas, especially in class discussions. The homework load (mostly reading) was bearable, and the class is easy enough if you do all the readings. Very reasonable and accommodating.
Dr. Kirkland is fairly new to the University, but it's clear that she'll gain popularity pretty quickly. There are weekly Psych discussions that she personally attends for those who are interested in Psychology. She's very kind, and if you answer a question she will ask for your name, making the class feel more personal. Would definitely recommend!
Psych 101 easy class as long as you either read or listen to lectures, not too much studying needed. No homework. Reading not too necessary
Professor Kirkland is thorough and very well-composed. Her lectures are absolutely amazing, but be sure to complete the readings prior because it will help you in the end. Take notes and always attend your lectures. Her lectures are available live stream via Panopto Recordings.
This is a wonderful professor! Highly recommend taking a class with her if you can. She is very accessible, caring, clear in her expectations, and leads thought provoking discussions. Really seems like she enjoys teaching, which is a good thing, because she's great at it!
Dr. Kirkland is a pretty good professor. She's funny and makes the lectures very interesting and engaging. She uses PollEverywhere for participation, so if you go to class or watch Panopto, then you will do fine in participation points. She encourages students to come into office hours and offers easy extra credit. She's a great teacher.
She was an awesome lecture prof. All of her classes were recored and streamed live so you didn't have to physically be in the class all the time.
She is such a wonderful professor! She is super clear during lectures and keeps it really engaging. She makes all the topics really interesting by providing real life applications and a lot of videos. Her grading system is really fair and if you pay attention in class, her tests are very manageable, even without much studying! She is my favorite!
dr. kirkland would probably be my favourite professor ever! her lecture was inspiring. she's very kind and also willing to answer your questions outside class. i strongly recommend you to take her class and join her weekly discussions. she has clear grading policies and reasonable workloads. definitely will take her class again!
For a professor that's new to teaching a 400 student lecture, Dr. Kirkland went above and beyond. Her slides are amazing and even though she streams her lectures live, most her students still go to her classes. She is super willing to answer questions and will even get back to you with answers. Exams are simple to study for and she provide guides.
Dr. Kirkland is the sweetest professor, and the way she teaches psych makes it more interesting than it already is. Her lecture slides are very clear and translate well to what kinds of questions are on tests. She's one of my favorite professors and I would definitely take her again for any class! If you study well, you will pass the tests.
I really enjoyed having her for this class, she had interactive learning as part of it, which really helped me. She cares for her students, we always had a review for the tests, and there was an outside discussion meeting on the Ave every Thursday (I did not go because of having an already full schedule) that I heard was helpful.
Awesome, super nice and helpful.
I can literally not say enough good things about Professor Kirkland. She's one of the most energetic, engaging, understanding professors I've ever had. You can tell she has a true passion for psych and I genuinely enjoyed going to lecture. She is also very willing to answer any questions you have. Would take another class from her in a heartbeat!
Dr. Kirkland is definitely one of the best professors out there. I've taken 2 of her classes and I can come to the conclusion that she is really a friendly, passionate, and engaging lecturer. She cares about her students and explains materials clearly. Participation matters! Exams were quite challenging but managable. Highly recommended :)
I took her psychology class during my first quarter here and she gave one of the best lectures ever. All her explanations were easy to understand and she tried very hard to make the lectures as interesting as possible, such as inserting videos and asking funny quizzes related to the course. I also learned how to become a better human observer :)
Highly recommend. Kirkland is an excellent professor. Engaging and interesting lectures. Weekly partner quizzes, 2 exams, and a final. She explains concepts and ideas really well. She cares that her students learn. Extra credit available. I would take this class again because she is a great person and an awesome professor. Going to miss this class.
Dr. Kirkland was a great professor as I took her first course she taught at UW (Psych 101). The class is fairly easy if you go to class for the participation points on poll everywhere and study a decent amount for the three exams. You can also earn an extra 0.3 gpa boost for participating in research for the psych department. Would take again.
Dr. Kirkland is a wonderful professor! She provides answers to all of the questions asked and does research on the ones that she doesn't know the exact answers to. She presents info in an easy to understand manner and is very helpful when it comes to understanding the course material. She brought in her dog to class once because it was relevant!
She lets the class get distracted all the time. We end up losing precious lecture hours to clarify concepts were required to learn before lecture. She just received her yoga teaching certificate, so she also deems it necessary to spend 5-10 minutes a day doing yoga instead of teaching psychology. Shes good one-on-one, though.
Hands down, my favorite professor. She is so passionate about Psych and is so driven to help her students succeed. She takes surveys every few weeks in the class asking about whether her teaching style is working and whether or not she can change anything. In other words, she cares about her students and whether or not they're retaining the info.
Easy A for students who simply want 4.0 and forget everything after this.
She's reallly a nice person!
Lectures cover chapters read in the book but Kirkland adds great explanation. Class is live on panopto and polls are participation based. 5 exams throughout the quarter are easy and you are provided study guides that outline exactly what is on the test. Memorization heavy but an easy A if you show up or watch lectures and do the hw.
Kirkland is a great professor, and she offers lots of extra credit. She uses Panopto, so you can participate even if you can't make class. Kirkland is funny and knows what she's talking about. She'll bring in her dog sometimes, and it makes the class even better. PSYCH 101 is supposed to be hard, but she makes it easier to understand and pass.
Professor Kirkland made me appreciate psychology a lot more and I would highly suggest taking class from her!! She makes it very easy to get a good grade considering she lets you do research for extra credit. Although some would say she has a lot of tests, I'd rather have tests every two weeks than cumulative ones that you have to study a lot for.
I love her! She is so nice and willing to work with students. This was a seminar class so reading and taking notes were a must!
There was a lot of outside work necessary for this course and some of the test questions were very confusing. However, lectures were interesting and recorder so attendance wasn't necessary except of the Poll Everywhere questions. Tests were ok but confusing at times.
Super fun professor! Everyone should take a class from her!
A wonderful class. Highly recommend to anybody. The class was interesting and easy, making a nice balance to my harder more intense classes. The subject was relative to what I was going through and understanding human behaviors and motivations better.
She makes lectures interesting and engaging. It's not always slide by slide teaching. A lot of the time she will provide examples that help the material easily stick. Extra credit for psych studies. 5 exams and an optional final. MUST do the readings and put in the work. Quite a bit of work, but doable and easy A. Would definitely recommend taking.
SHE IS THE BEST. She takes time to know her students names, lectures very well, and actually respects the students thoughts. TAKE HER CLASSES!
Tabitha is a very friendly and wonderful prof. Her lectures are very fun to participate in and our weekly discussion section assignments helped me think critically about social psych. Group exams helped me learn much more from my classmates and build friendships along the way! :)
Ahh! Prof. Kirkland is AMAZING. I loved her class SO much! She is extremely caring, attentive, and well-spoken (not to mention she gives fantastic lectures). TAKE HER CLASS! Make sure to read the textbook. Also-- she brings her adorable dog to class on the occasion, which is always a treat :-)
Loved this class!! I had her fall quarter and she was the sweetest. Honestly, a lot of the information she taught has stuck with me and has been applicable in other classes which has been nice. Tests weren't too bad and I found the homework to be reasonable. She also sometimes brought in her dog!!
Yeah I'm not a fan. Everyone I know who has taken her classes have sung her praises but I don't buy it. She has a bit of an attitude problem and all her homework is busy work and not meaningful or learning enhancing. Her heart is in the right place but I think her priorities lay somewhere else besides teaching.
a TON of busy work. So much that you can receive writing credit w/o even knowing it counts for it. Class discussions were only "fun" because I liked the people in my group, but the assignments definitely did NOT allow for much time to make good quality. She comes off sweet, but as a grader she is extremely critical and sounds rude in her comments.
Does pollev, so would go to class. She assigns quite a bit of homework and reading the textbook is necessary, but overall the class was an easy A. Her lectures are interesting, homework isn't difficult just time consuming, and tests are usually every other week (can skip final if you don't need an exam grade replaced!). Just study, do the work, etc
Extra credit offered for participating in psych studies. AMAZING teacher. She is very funny, sweet, and gives engaging lectures. She brings her dog to class sometimes!!! Be prepared to read a lot. You have to put in the time to read and memorize, but it's doable to get an A. She does use pollev so attendance is mandatory.
Great lectures, weekly readings that are quizzed but are pretty straightforward. Content not difficult to master, although there isn't too much room for mistakes on exams. Uses pollEv so attendance mandatory.
Overall I liked this class. I thought it was a lot of work at first, but I realized it's nothing compared to calculus or science courses. The topics are interesting and applicable to life. Lectures are sometimes engaging and funny and sometimes go over the same information from the homework. If you do the work, you'll get a high grade.
Professor Kirkland's PSYCH 101 class is the only course that I have been genuinely sad to finish. No matter the subject of her lecture she will somehow make it insanely interesting! She's just an adorable person and really cares about her students and their success. In short: TAKE A CLASS FROM HER. You won't be disappointed.
I liked Tabitha. Her lectures are interesting, if a bit surface level. You don't need to come to class, though, you're tested on the book and maybe a few things at lecture at most (which is on panopto). If you read the book and do the extra credit it's an easy 4.0. I'd be interested in taking a higher level class from her.
One of the few 5s I would give in all of the UW. There are a lot of papers, but I never had too much trouble with them, most are open-ended. I took both Emotion and Social with her both were great. Tabitha is a yoga instructor in her spare time which isn't my thing, but if you like mindfulness, she is the prof. Positive energy in human form.

Dr. Kirkland is by far the best lecturer for Psych 101. Her lectures are visual and clean, and she is really effective at explaining topics in detail and answering questions. The readings also help A LOT. That being said, the abundance of extra credit given (0.3 GPA!) isn't even needed to score a 4.0.
SUPER, NICE AND HELPFUL
It was so sad to take an class in which the lecture does not focus on materials on eama a lot. Instead, lectures are aboit detailed experiments which are irrelevant to the exam and are pretty boring. If the attendence is not mandatory, I believe nobody would go to the class. TA grades really strict and don't expect to get a high grade.
Great lecturer, super nice, lectures were really interesting.
Her lectures are pretty boring but she's a nice person. Didn't really answer people's questions in lecture
Dr. Kirkland is a wonderful lecturer! Not only does she provide visuals for more abstract experimental concepts, but she explains experimental concepts to previous experiments. She also does mindfulness in lecture, which is something that I really appreciated during exam season. She is pretty energetic, and knows how to keep the class engaged.
She's a pretty new professor and spends most of the lecture answering student's questions. The test questions are often ambiguous and the short-answer questions on exams are vague. It seems like she cares about students, but as a professor she's not the best choice.
Tabitha is a very "OK" professor. Not terrible but not great. I learned much more from my quiz section than from lecture, and the only reason I went was for the credit. Lectures in general are not that helpful, but she provides really detailed exam reviews and practice exams which was nice. Hard to talk to. Book is mandatory for weekly online quiz
You absolutely have to take psych 208 if you get the chance. Everything was so fascinating and applicable to daily life. It provides you with skills & knowledge to become a happier person, and it actually made a huge positive impact on my life. Tabithas bubbly personality & kindness made the class the amazing experience it was. Best class ever.
Awesome professor. There is a good amount of reading and work but if you put in the work it's not too hard. She is very accomidating to her students and throughout the quarter she would adjust her class so that it was a little less work. Her lectures are pretty fun and engaging and she always allows time for questions. Hope to have her again!
She is the absolute sweetest!! Brought dogs to class one time, and candy on Halloween! There's a lot of resources to study from like slides, practice tests, review quizzes from each chapter, and a study guide from the TAs. She halved our weekly assignment load halfway through the quarter because of feedback from the students. Makes learning so fun!
Dr. Kirkland is a great professor. She cares about her students so much and her lectures are interesting (as long as you pay full attention). However, the review Q, Inquizitives, and wednesday-activities are really a burden. Sometimes it's just too much for a 101 class. Definitely be ready to read the textbook and you'll get a good grade! :)
Tabitha Kirkland is a super cool and interesting professor and really captured your engagement in her lectures. Tests are mostly from the book with a couple hidden questions that cover the lectures, but lectures are mostly emphasizing important details from the book, and some new info. She also gives extra credit, 6 hours of participation +.3 gpa.
Lecture content was not that different from the textbook, but lectures were still interesting. Lectures are streamed on Panopto but there's PollEvs so you still gotta go. If you do the online homework and study for the midterms a little bit you'll be fine. It can be time-consuming though, but great content. I learned a lot.
Amazing professor! essay class!
Doctor Kirkland is AMAZING. She's so sweet and you can really tell she cares about her students. The class itself has a good amount of homework and reading, but the exams are reasonable and she goes over all of the information from the readings in class. Do your work, participate in class through the polls, make some Quizlets and you'll be set!
Best class I've ever taken! If you take it seriously, you can actually see huge improvements in your happiness levels. Tabitha is also such a sweet professor and you can get a 4.0 if you do the work.
Dr. Kirkland is absolutely amazing! Especially with the current pandemic, she has been nothing short of caring and understanding to her students. You can tell that she is passionate about what she teaches, which makes the class even more enjoyable. Work load was manageable and easy to handle if you pace yourself. Would definitely recommend!
Kirkland provides study sessions, office hours, extra credit, drops the lowest quiz score, and overall very supportive.
One of the best organized online courses (it makes the class more enjoyable)! Makes psychology interesting, she's cares about her students learning and it shows through her organization and materials provided. It's a bit of work but the information really sticks. One of my favorite classes I've taken at UW, she's great!
Dr. K is an AMAZING teacher! She is so understanding and flexible, and if you message her, she will do everything she can to help you pass. Her teaching style is great, her lectures are very easy to follow. The class as a whole is not hard at all. She's really empathetic, especially right now. Definitely the best professor I've had at UW so far!
Dr. Kirkland is an amazing professor! Her lectures are really helpful and the online resources are amazing. I learned a lot in her class.
Dr. Kirkland is a fantastic professor and with the current pandemic, has made class so fun and easy to understand. Loved the lectures, the content, and getting to talk to her during office hours. Really a wonderful professor and I would HIGHLY recommend her!!!
She gives the feeling that she genuinely cares about her students and wants the best for them. I always looked forward to her Mindful Mondays lectures. Quizzes and tests were very easy too.
Tabitha's lectures are very insightful and applicable to daily life. She is a very nice teacher and her grading system is fair
This was one of my first classes here at UW. The textbook becomes an introduction to the material enforced in the lectures. Dr. Kirkland connects the ideas from her lectures to everyday scenarios, which reinforce the main ideas that will be present on quizzes and exams. The set up of activities help with the clarification of the main ideas.
Took this online so idk what she is like in person, but she was one of the only profs. who I thought was extremely organized and prepared to teach her whole quarter from the first day. Like, she seriously had everything ready, Canvas organized, lectures for the first 2-3 weeks recorded and all assignments ready to go. Serious props.
Professor Kirkland made my first quarter at UW incredibly fun. The entire class was extremely organized and laid-out from the very beginning. She was always on top of posting the lecture recordings and giving weekly overviews. The class was very engaging and interactive, I learned a lot of useful information. Would definitely recommend her!
It's not a hard class and Professor Kirkland is nice/good lecturer, but it's difficult to understand what she is asking on quizzes/exams. The class content is easy so the problems in quizzes and exams lies in her ability or the TAs ability to create questions.
TAKE. THIS. CLASS. Professor Kirkland is one of the best human being on this planet, and this was one of the best classes I have ever taken. You read quite a bit, but everything is extremely digestible and really interesting. She is always available to talk about the class or anything else, she's super passionate and cares about each student.
Dr. Kirkland is extremely nice and caring, and is a great lecturer. PSYCH 345 was held asynchronously, and the tests were very easy. 50 multiple choice questions and two hours, open book. If you put in ample effort, you'll likely get a 4.0. I absolutely recommend taking social psychology with her.
BEST PSYCH PROF I HAVE EVER HAD.
I highly recommend Professor Kirkland for Psych 101. She is very understanding and is clear about what's going to be on exams. Also, the class is asynchronous and she is very organized with her work. There is a lot of extra credit.
A great psych intro class! I took this online with lectures all prerecorded, but Professor Kirkland's enthusiasm for teaching still came through with that. She was super accessible outside of class, tests were very reasonable if you paid attention in lectures and did the reading, and everything was so organized. 100% recommend!
I loved Dr. Kirkland! Shes so nice and caring and she makes it easy to succeed. Not only are the projects easy to do well on, but she offers opportunities to make up lost points on major assignments/exams. She was great and I hope to take her again in future psych classes! Her mindful Monday segments were also always something to look forward to.
Best psych teacher I ever had.
If you are planning to take any Psychology class, BE SURE to get into a class with Tabitha Kirkland. She is an amazing person and the way she sets up the class makes it easy for students to find what they need to do and do it. If you pay attention and take good notes and do all the work she assigns, you can easily pass with a 4.0
Dr. Kirkland is amazing. She does make you read a chapter from the textbook before the start of every week and it may seem like a lot but DO THE READING. It will greatly help you on the open note exams.
Dr. Kirkland is the best professor that I have had so far at UW, and this is my last year here! The content of the course is very organized and thought-provoking and it takes minimal effort to be really engaged in the material. The 3 exams can be pretty intimidating, but they are online and open note. You will thrive if you try!
Dr. Kirkland is great. Her lectures are great, the course is very organized, and she gives a lot of opportunities to succeed. My least favorite part was the textbook readings, just because it's about 40 pages of reading every week. Other than that, most of the quizzes are easy, and the weekly activities are usually fun.
Kind and caring professor! Love her! Her course is not tough, and the grading criteria for projects is clear. The awful scores given by your classmates through Peerceptiv would not prevent you from getting an A! If you follow all the instructions and ask the professor or TA for help when you have troubles, you will be fine.
Her class feels like more high school one than college based on how many assignments she assigns and their nature. Peer review is the most extensive format I've ever seen that takes hours to complete and aren't very beneficial. She's nice and I enjoy her lectures, but I'd avoid taking her class if possible bc the assignments feel pointless.
Dr. Kirkland is very kind, accessible, and cares about her students. Go to office hours. She's an amazing lecturer and most of the test is questions she answered verbatim in class so go to the lectures! The grading depends mostly on the TA's but in general, it was very chill, and your lowest score in each assignment category gets dropped. 10/10.
Loved this class so easy, she posts the slides so no need to go to class. Gives a note card for each exam. She's also super sweet would def recommend
I absolutely loved taking 101 with Kirkland! She made this course enjoyable, and made me excited to learn. I would 10/10 reccomend!
Dr. Kirkland is one of the best professors I've had at UW. Her lectures are engaging, informative, and interactive. She's always open to answering questions and providing students with resources to study. She offers extra credit and a note sheet on exams. One assignment is dropped from each category along with one exam and an optional final!
Dr. Kirkland is an excellent professor. She obviously cares about her students and has super engaging lectures. The way her class is designed makes it easy to get a good grade if you put the work in. I took this class to balance out two tougher courses and it was not too challenging but still interesting.
Favorite professor by far! She gives very reasonable quizzes, grading policies are super lenient, and homework is manageable. If you study for exams and keep on top of your work an A is very possible. Super kind, cares about her students, overall just wonderful!!!!
She is super sweet and amazing, lots of material in the class but all very interesting!!
She is awesome. She teaches so much in such an efficient manner. I never felt behind. I never felt overwhelmed. I learned a loooot without feeling overwhelmed or that I was dealing with a strict professor who was testing me on too much. The grading was awesome too.
Great teacher
Dr. Kirkland is very fun and interesting to listen to in lectures. The lowest assignment in each category was dropped which is nice, and the assignments are very consistent. The exams are all multiple choice and there's a weekly multiple choice quiz with one short answer. Not hard to pass if you read the textbook. I highly recommend!
Annotations of assigned readings and thoughtful discussion questions are due before each lecture. Make sure to read the readings! Weekly writing assignment and a final paper. She is a harsh grader! Strict standards with grading and taking off points. She's nice to talk with, but I would avoid her class unless you know how to do scientific writing.
Super accommodating, there's a turn-in grace period on all assignments. At the end of the quarter, one assignment in each "category" gets dropped, including exams! She doesn't record lectures, but posts the slides on Canvas. There's weekly reading, discussion posts, quizzes, and projects, but if you do the work, it's easy to get a good grade.
LOVE Tabitha. Second time I've had her. Her grading scheme is a little weird, it's not percent based, but it's lenient and easy to excel if you do the work. Super personable, caring, and compassionate. Lectures are recorded.
Dr. Kirkland is an engaging professor who makes the material interesting. The workload is manageable, and Unstuck AI was a helpful study tool alongside the textbook. Definitely worth taking this class!
Well-structured class; the assignments help pass the exam. The exams are each taken twice, first attempt done individually and weighted at 80% of the exam grade, the second attempt is in a group and weighted at 20% of the exam grade. Multiple readings a week, not too tough. Lecture attendance is not required, but really helps.
Dr. Kirkland's lectures were excellent and easy to focus in. 3 midterms and 1 final, can drop 1, test grade is 80% your own score 20% group score. Only issue is that the reflection assignments do not have a clear grading criteria, so it was difficult to get full credit on. Free textbook & provides practice questions. Wording on tests not the best.
