Suzuki-sensei was a really wonderful, genuinely nice, helpful teacher that has a kind sense of humor. I would definately recommend his class for those looking into studying Japanese.
He's really nice and lenient. Do all the work and come to class, he'll give you an A and a really good recommendation letter.
Excellent teaching style. Very easy to follow, especially in a difficult subject area. Suzuki-sensee is easy to talk to and solicit help from. I would highly recommend his classes to anyone interested in learning Japanese.
If you want to take Japanese and are serious about learning the language then Suzuki-sensei is a teacher you will want to take!! He is very nice and has a good sence of humor!!
He is a very good teacher. and I really enjoy the class very much.
I took 4 classes with Suzuki sensei, he is a great teacher. He's very nice and goes out of his way to help his students(any of them)pass his class. He's a very nice man ^_^

He's a great teacher and he has a great ass.
Suzuki-sensei is a fun, funny, answers pretty much any question about japanese, and is easy to talk to. All you have to do is do the work and understand the material reasonably, and you'll pass.
Suzuki sensei is lenient and a great teacher to take if you want to learn Japanese. He helps his students and its almost impossible to fail his class. He has a good sense of humor and the class is hardly boring.
Suzuki-san is a great teacher, and I really enjoyed his class. It's not an easy class, but you'll do fine if you keep up with classwork and study the material. If you're motivated about learning Japanese, this is the class for you.
He is a good teacher, but he wears same-looking clothes all the time. domo arigatou roboto-san
Suzuki Sensei is a nice guy, but if you are really serious about Japanese, he leaves something to be desired. Sometimes too much leniency is a bad thing. But hey, it's community college, right?
Suzuki-sense is super easy and awsome. it's so cute how he bows all the time.
Very patient and kind, major props to him for being so, especially when you consider that the majority of his students are so into anime that they really don't respect the languauge, they are overly involved in just one aspect of the beautiful language.
he has a fun class, his class is pretty much easy but you learn a lot, just study what he gives out and you'll just pass through with ease
He was a great teacher, I would take taken more classes but Japanese is not part of an Engineering Majoe.
Sensei is the best. I wish I was still taking classes with him... even if he didn't want pie...
man he is the greatest
Awesome teach!

I had so much fun in his classes it was the best.....and if you want to see him turn red ask him about the girl that dressed up like him for a skit
I took Suzuki Sensei's Japanese class back in 97. I thought he was a pretty cool teacher to have. I wish I stayed around to take his other courses.
Suzuki-sensei was my favorite teachers at RCC. He was fun and if you payed attention and did the work, you learned a lot. His only fault is being too nice. Though we've gone on to other things, those of us in the fan club still hold you in our hearts sensei!
This class is soo easy, that anyone can do it. Suzuki sensei is the best teacher ever.
He has to be the best teacher in the world. We love him!
i dont think i will ever have a better teacher than suzuki sensei...
An excellent professor! His lessons are very straightforward, and he does everything possible to make sure all his students understand the concepts. I wish I had the opportunity to stay for another of his classes! If you are genuinely interested in the language and culture of Japan, I highly recommend this professor!
Suzuki-sensei is great! I plan on taking his full course-load. His tests aren't bad at all but you still need to study. He really makes learning the language fun-especially with cool visual aids! He's always willing to help you increase your knowledge with the Japanese lanugage and culture, especially if you are SERIOUS about it. I recommend him!!!
Extremely nice teacher, has a nice sense of humor, helpful about everything. Tests, homework, everything else is really easy, although a lot of homework sometimes. Sensei is awesome!
Absolutely fabulous teacher! Easy to learn from. The subject is hard, but he's a great teacher.
He is always willing to help his students. It's fun and really helpful class. I like his way of teaching. Also, you will get a lot of extra credits. Take his class. I really enjoyed this class.
he is so hot
He is an amazing teacher, the best teacher I've ever had in my life. His class is not difficult to pass but if you really want to learn you need to work hard! Any time you need help, he is always there and he is willing to go the extra mile to make sure you are learning. Because of him, I became interested in Japanese. Thumbs up to Suzuki Sensei!
A really good professor to have if you are interested in Japanese. If you are currently taking any of his classes don't let his coarse work scare you. He is a relatively easy teacher. One of the most helpful too. Especially on his oral performances. I had the opportunity to take him starting for the last 3 courses. I highly recommend him.
very understanding. I have no problem with Japanese but my friend had a hard time. she wasn't doing good on her test and quiz (about a C) but she when to class all the time and worked very hard and she got an A at the end. I'm sure she really should have gotten an C or B but, I think because she worked hard, the teacher gave her an A as the prize.
Susuki-sensei is one of the best teachers I've ever had in my entire life. He makes learning japnese fun and easy to understand. I'd recommend his class to anyone who is interested in learning Japanese.
i just wish i could take jpn with him again.
Seriously, he is the best teacher I have ever had...take his class even if you hate the subject. You will love the language when you are done with the class.
Suzuki-sensee is an excellent teacher. He's very nice and is a very lenient grader. Of course learning a new language is hard, but he makes the class fun. In Japanese 1 however, towards the end of the semester...the class gets extremely hard. Just be prepared. Go to class (he grades on your attendance!), pay attention, and STUDY STUDY!!
Love him. ^_^ he's lenient and patient. he's a good teacher and makes class fun. and he's cute. teehee
SUZUKI, I had him for JPN 1-4. He is amazing!!!!!!!!!! I had him about 6 years ago, and i still speak pretty decent Japanese! SUZUKI!
This guy is amazing! He's makes going to class fun and entertaining. And did anyone else notice that HUGE hennesy bag he carries around? My hero...
Suzuki-sensei is one of the best teachers I've ever had. I've taken JPN1-4 and passed each with an A. He's a great teacher; and as long as you show up and give your best efforts you'll get a good grade. He looks at if your are trying and gives a lot of extra credit! Studying is required though.
I love Suzuki! I got an A in his class. He drops the lowest score of every section. Be sure to get your lab hours in every week! I can't say I learned very much, but he's amazing. He was by far the politest person I have ever encountered. Konbanwa!
A very fair teacher. Attendance is expected but a few absences or lates won't kill you. He wants you to learn the language and will help you out when you need it. Tests are fair so long as you studied! And do the homework, too. Common sense, people. Arigatou, sensei!
Best teacher at RCC. I changed my major because of him. Take his class seriously, and expect daily homework. Oral performances are a blast. If you're an anime geek, leave your obsession outside of class work..treat him with respect and dignity for gods sake. (PS: if you major in JPN don't go to UCR for JPN)
Suzuki sensei was very helpful and teaches well with passion. There is a lot to do in this class since it's a 5 unit course. He drops the lowest score for each categories such as class participation, hw, exams, quizzes, oral performances, webquests, etc. I passed with a 99% in the class. Should take!
he is a really cool teacher. i love him hes fun and easy to learn with him.
Learning a new language is always daunting, especially when you introduce an entirely new system of associating symbols with sounds, instead of letters, but this introductory class was fairly easy. Simply pay attention in class, and you'll do fine. His repetitiveness is sure to ingrain the language into your mind. He is very polite, and nice.
Suzuki-Sensei cares so much about his students, and makes sure to learn everyone's names, and continues to remember them. Japanese is a difficult language to learn, but Suzuki-Sensei makes it easy. You have to do a lot more studying if you go past Japanese 1 though, but it's not too hard. I've never met anyone who didn't like Suzuki-Sensei.
Suzuki-sensei is one of the best teachers you could ever meet, he is very helpful, extremely polite, and will never embarass anyone, which I think is essential when learning a new language, especially Nihongo. Class is fun and enganged, and the assignments outside class is fairly manageable and is actually helpful in learning the language.
Hands down, the best instructor I have ever had. He makes the class so much fun and he is so animated that time just flies by. I am still taking the summer session and I've never had any class where 3 1/2 hrsx4 days a week just flew by. Extremely easy A. It does get really hard toward the last half but do hw study and show up and you'll get an A
AMAZING instructor!!! Suzuki-sensee is wonderful! He understands the language is difficult and he works with every student. I was afraid of struggling but he makes the class fun and easy to learn. I wish I could have him as a teacher in other classes!
Great teacher, very helpful and will work with you if you're struggling. Best teacher I've ever had.
He is the best teacher I have ever had. He is extremely helpful and kind. He doesn't hand out any points, so make sure you do all your homework. His tests are pretty difficult, but if you study you should do just fine. Make sure you memorize all the Kanji and it's pronunciation in hirigana and you'll ace all the quizes. I would highly recommend him
Amazing class! He makes learning Japanese fun, and he's just the cutest ever! Do the homework, NEVER miss a class or you'll be the lost the following class! Don't be afraid to talk to him; he is extremely helpful. He is also VERY understanding no matter what the subject is. Try to be doing the lab activities as often as you can for studying.
Note: Everyone under me took Japanese 1. Suzuki-sensei's Japanese 2 class is substantially more difficult. He is very strict on attendance and it WILL AFFECT YOUR GRADE if you don't come to class. You will be so lost. Lots of homework. Tests are not easy but you basically get 40% free by showing up and doing lab hours. Impossible to fail this class
I had Suzuki Sensei for Japanese 1 and 2. He is strict on attendance and homework is given and due almost every class meeting. The test are not as hard as you'd think they would be as long as you prepare a bit. My advise: Attend all classes and take notes from the board. It really helps.
I have Suzuki-Sensei for both 1 and 2 (just finished 2 this semester). Japanese 2 changes very much than Japanese 1. He's more strict and intense, but none-the-less, he is very very nice and approachable. Class is more fast paced, but if you pay attention, take notes, and study, you will pass :) Great class
He is a boring teacher!! He always make you do physical excise: stand up and sit down. He like to read a long paragraph in the textbook using the voice only he can hear. He will repeat a single point again and again and again, therefore, impossible to fail the course if you stick on. Come to class, then you get A/B. Do not expect to learn anything.
I loved this class, definitely taking Japanese 2. He is very organized and prepared for his lectures and there is alot of homework (its not hard though), but I think he just wants to make sure you learn everything. Hes super nice and helpful.
Suzuki Sensei is one of my favorite teachers at RCC. I was expecting his class to be overwhelmingly hard, however I was able to keep an A throughout his class and have fun while obtaining a deeper understanding of the Japanese language and culture. I will be taking JPN 2.
Clear teaching, although there was a lot of tedious work. It pays off in the end though. I did so well on the work I didn't have to take the final.
Really cool ??. It's really sad that they don't offer levels 3 and 4 anymore. Suzuki sensei will go out of his way to make sure a student understands the topic and is more than willing to help whenever he is available. Certainly has me studying Japanese even after I'm out of his class. I love his "choto videos" they made the class laugh.
Japanese 2 is a little more difficult that Japanese 1. Suzuki sensei is a great teacher that is willing to help you out with any inquiry that you might have.Great class! It was interesting.
Suzuki is probably one of my favorite professors I have had. He is the only professor I've had that is willing to go the extra mile for his students. Gives lots of help during class, as well as during office hours. He gives some culture notes during class. he also gives practical assignments, none of this "useless" garbage some professors give.
Suzuki-sensei tries to make learning a rather difficult language as simple as he can through the content of his lessons, and his willing answer any relevant question you have about the language. He is also very willing to stay after class to answer students' questions and offer additional help.
Suzuki-sensei was without a doubt the best teacher I've had at RCC, and one of the best teachers I've ever had. He makes learning a difficult language fun and is extremely helpful, he cares and wants his students to learn. Grading may be a bit too lenient at times but you still have to work hard to pass his upper level classes.
Suzuki sensei was an absolute fantastic professor. The lectures can feel very long and can tire you out, however if you truly love the language and want to learn it you will enjoy learning. Suzuki sensei tends to accidentally do funny things or say funny things a lot too so it's an enjoyable experience. I don't think he realizes he is funny though.
A great teacher overall and really lit my passion for a language I took on a whim to fill out my credit sheet for the year. I'm now studying over the break and trying my best to use the language as much as I can. He helps you create good study habits by requiring you to take 1 hour of lab each week. I'm looking forward to his next level classes.
The is class easy if you study and practice the materials. The test were so-so, but pay close attention during the listening sections! Homework was reasonable; labs are important; oral tests are nerve-wrecking, but if you practice, you'll be fine. Great class to those who are willing to learn the language
Great teacher! I took Japanese on a whim, and he made it so much less daunting than it seemed like it would be. The work isn't hard, and is helpful for learning. The best thing you can do in the class is go over the dialogues often. He is very patient and respectful, and explains all of the intricacies very well.
He's an amazing professor-very approachable. For someone who never took Japanese, the first few months are easy. After the 3rd month in, it gets difficult because he tends to speed through the lectures and writes really fast in romaji/kanji to where it's hard to keep up. Don't miss a class, do all the hw/labs, study hard, and you'll get an easy A.
Like everyone else here has said, Suzuki-sensei truly is one of the best professors at RCC. When I first came to class, I was overwhelmed by the syllabus and the grading. However, you'll quickly learn that as long as you do your work, he'll grade easily. He is unintentionally quirky but it's very charming, and he genuinely cares!
Suzuki-sensei is a very respectable, mild, and quirky man. Class doesn't have a lot of homework, but you *MUST* study. There are 3 WebQuests which are a ton of work. You cannot breeze by this class. His criteria, however, is clear and he is a lenient grader; He wants to see effort. He is helpful if you ask for it. Often he speeds through things.
Prof Suzuki is one of the best professors i've taken in RCC, he is very enthusiastic in what he teaches, and he makes it very fun. You will have to participate with your neighbors so at the end of the term you will most likely leave with new friends. Make sure you study, and do lab! Other than that it's an easy A! I would definitely take JPN2!
I took him for both Japanese 3 and 4 I took Japanese 1 and 2 with a different professor and she was amazing but I really liked Suzuki Sensei he is really kind and understanding. His lessons are well planned out and you always know what you are going to be learning for the day I highly recommend taking his class if you want to learn Japanese 10/10
Suzuki sensei is amazing! Really a fun class, it wasn't hard, only when it came to the kanji, but he is willing to help you. Be prepared with books FOR EVERY LECTURE. Really loved this class!
Funny, extremely caring, and definitely wants you to succeed. Easy A if you pay attention and do the work but be prepared to put time into this class with weekly labs and a 2.5 hr long class. But totally worth it and made many unforgettable experiences. Very clear grading and gave a detailed progress report on your grade breakdown halfway through
Suzuki Sensei is the most compassionate professor I ever had. At first few weeks of class the class syllabus may seem overwhelming but as you progress the class it becomes manageable. Grading criteria is reasonable and earning that A is doable as long as you put in some effort to labs/classwork/ and studying a reasonable pace.
Suzuki Sensei is a really easy grader and wants you to learn. I took his JPN1, JPN2, and JPN3 and they are fun classes. He does assign a lot of homework, but it is not hard and it is very doable. He also has everything laid out in the schedule so you know when to expect everything.
Suzuki Sensei is such an amazing professor. Despite everything being online, his lecture videos are easy to follow and are not difficult to understand. I was afraid Japanese would be super difficult, but his teaching made it easy to follow. As long as you do the work and make the effort, youll pass.
Suzuki sensei is one of my favorite professors. He is very organized and very clear with what is expected of you to succeed in the course. Homework can be heavy, but in the context of wanting to learn a new language, you should be doing even more than he assigns if you're actually serious about it. I couldn't have asked for a better professor!
Greatest class I've ever taken. He's very understanding and kind. The quizzes and tests are all straight forward and he gives you a good amount of time to finish everything. He made Japanese a smooth class and explains very well. He posts 20-30 videos but if you keep up with that as well as the labs, you'll be golden.
I absolutely loved Suzuki Sensei, he made learning such a difficult language more approachable. I enjoyed this course with my entire being. I can't wait to continue with my Japanese courses.
The homework is tedious but doable. He is strict about deadlines but if you keep on top of the work, you'll pass easily. It is easy to fall behind. He is organized and prompt with handing back your work and is clear in his feedback and expectations. He explains things well & breaks the language down to the point that you can understand easily.
I adore this man. He's super chill and wants you to enjoy his class. Is his class fun? Not really, but his personality makes you wish there are more people like him in your life. He's good for your soul.
Suzuki-sensei makes our online class fun and engaging. He makes full use of breakout rooms and our mics, so it's very interactive. All tests are open book. We would have to try really hard to fail. I recommend learning to read and write the characters he presents, even when he says you don't need to memorize them. It will help you near the end.
Suzuki-sensee is one of the hardest working teachers I've had at RCC. He cares a lot about making sure you understand the material. There is a lot of homework in his classes but it's so worth it to get a better understanding of Japanese. He happily answers any questions and is very easy to reach out to. Would definitely take again!
Great instructions and a true pleasure to take the class. My proficiency with the language is much better after taking the class.
He is passionate, gentle, and caring. By the second week of the semester, he'd wave at his students if they were to pass him. Always has time and a smile for you when you come and ask for help. During the oral exam near the end of the semester, he'll try and help you as long and as much as he can. However, you're on your own for the written exams.
Suzuki Sensei is great, providing a clear grading criteria, and feedback on assignments. The class requires time, and devotion. Albeit, homework may seem like a lot, he understands his students. He's kind and easy to reach out to for assistance. Study, and pay attention in class. Overall Suzuki Sensei will make learning Japanese a worthwhile.
Suzuki-Sensei is one of my favorite professors that I've had at RCC. I won't lie, his class is tough but I think that's just part of learning another language. He was always attentive and very patient with us as we were learning. I'd definitely recommend taking his class, just be prepared to put in the effort. :)
Suzuki Sensei was by far one of the most caring professors I've had. He is hardworking and really cares about his students and is always more than happy to help them succeed. I will say there was quite some homework assigned after each class, along with the labs, but if you put in the effort you'll be good.
Prof. Suzuki is great, he is very generous with grading and explains most things very clearly. Can be a little vague but is more than happy to explain if you ask. He sticks to the syllabus to a T so try not to miss class or homework. Very nice, will work with you if you can't make it to class + tell him ahead of time. I can't recommend him enough.
This professor is great on providing free materials that are required in this course, but it's kinda repetitive because you'd only need to do three things every week. (Discussions, a quiz, and readings). A final project, midterm, and a final. But it's great for me especially the reading materials are actually useful even outside of class.
Dr. Suzuki is an amazing human being. He genuinely cares about his students, and is an awesome professor. Not going to lie, this class goes FAST and if you miss a day or two its really hard to jump back into it. Theres a lot of online assignments, along with some written stuff and exams. If I can pass this class, you can too!
Prof. Suzuki is a caring, passionate teacher who wants you to succeed. While the coursework can be challenging, he's always happy to help. Unstuck ai and the free textbook were lifesavers for me.
I took this professor for JPN-11 last time and he's great at teaching. But during the first week of summer class, there would be a lot of content to cover. So I suggest to try to get ahead or finish up since they're due the following day. I wouldn't recommend missing a day of lesson since it's hard to catch up with a short summer session.
Dr. Suzuki is incredibly patient with new learners. His assignments are very doable as usually he would assign homework exercises related to what we learned in class that day. If you're someone who skips class and doesn't turn in assignments regularly, don't take this class. You will be lost if you constantly miss class especially towards the end.
Hes a great person, sticks to the syllabus, and makes class expectations very clear. Even though Im already intermediate he still encouraged me to write at my level on assignments and gave me useful feedback. He even sent me photos of my notebook when I accidentally left it in the classroom when I desperately needed it for a final for another class
Suzuki-sensei really cares about teaching us Japanese. More than the grade or anything, he just wants us to learn, which actually makes us want to learn. I recommend his in-person classes, but his synchronous class online class is as good as it can get for online classes. Just beware of the huge homework load.
