I was scared to take English and Professor Wonnell made it so wonderful! I learned so much and had great classroom discussions. She is friendly and helpful and definitely wanted us all to do well. Her class was never boring and I would definitely recommend her to anyone who needs Eng 1A.
Prof Wonnell was the best! She really made me think and the reading was mostly super interesting. I felt like she cared about her students and put a lot of energy into it. The best!
Taking Technical Communication 310 and learning how to write technical reports was helpful for my job. Professor Wonnell gave me great feedback and my report and proposal writing improved a lot over the semester. Some of her assignments were fun, and they all served a purpose.
I highly recommend Professor Wonnell for English courses. I was avoiding taking English for a while, but now this is my favorite course. The class is organized with clear grading and regular feedback. The classes are engaging with more modern assignments like TED talks. Most importantly she seems to really care about teaching and her students.
The best professor Ive had so far. Super fun class and I learned a lot. Lots of papers, but good feedback and Im class help!
The class is alright, but she is a lot better than some of the other english 1a courses in my opinion. Would take her class for an Eng 1b course too.
All you have to do is show up and write the essay super easy grader too
One of the best English professors, and MUCH better than what I've heard about the other English professors here. Show up, do the work, and you'll pass. She is caring and she is very helpful if you need it. Could not recommend her more.
Excellent feedback and the class was never boring. I learned a lot (like A LOT is two separate words) and it was always clear that Professor Wonnell really wanted us all to do well.
Scared to take English 1A but she told us on the first day that if we showed up to every class and turned in all our assignments on time, we would automatically pass. She was legit awesome and fun.
my fav class so far
Super easy class to learn and do well if u just go to class.
best class I've had so far
She's one of the best instructor's I've ever had. Very helpful when grading, she always provides feedback that help improve. She focuses on why people are taking her class instead of trying to be a jack of all trades which means you need to complete a few specific projects and then you're good for the most part. Time always flew in class.
Great, caring, passionate. Just how a teacher should be! Getting an A in her class is very doable.
I loved this class! Professor Wonnell is a fun and interesting teacher and what I learned in this class will help in all of my classes.
I dreaded English 1A but she actually made it interesting and she really cared about how we did in her class.
Awesome class, way better than I thought it would be.
Best teacher ever!
Really truly cares about her students and strives to be her best.
Really enjoyed this professor, and typically I loath the idea of doing an english course.
This class is well organized, the grade criteria is clear, and the professor is fair. If you show up to class, participate, and do the assignments you will get an A. There are opportunities to get extra points by using campus services for paper writing. This is one of the first classes I feel like I will use in the future.
Really great teacher! I learned a great deal.
Being an older student, I was really nervous on the first day of classes when Professor Wonnell was young. The classes was one of my favorites by the end. It feel like if you wanted an A, you would get one as long as you turn in the work. There was extra credit and plenty of times to rewrite a paper when needed.
It is a good class if you follow the assignments and instructions.
I hate writing and I really learned how to be better.
Great class, would def recommend to everyone.
Amazing instructor! Each report prepares you for the next and the curriculum flows nicely. She was willing to help with any assignment including other classes work. Overall A+
Were only a few weeks in, but this is the best class! I actually look forward to it and I hate writing.
My favorite teacher EVER!! Actually makes classes fun! Prof Wonnell covers so much information but makes sure that we all understand it. Loved the class and it always made me think. Definitely taking Advanced Comp with her if possible.
It is obvious every day that Professor Wonnell loves teaching and wants all of us to do good in her class. She helped me through a really rough time and I was planning to drop out of school... I'm so glad I had her or I wouldn't be in college still.
This was my first online class and Professor Wonnell was super organized with what was due and gave us feedback quickly. She sent out weekly emails with what was due and what we needed to read - her emails were always encouraging. It was clear that she was committed to us all learning and being successful in the course.
I wish all my teachers loved teaching as much as Professor Wonnell clearly does.
The thing I liked best about Proffesor Wonnell is that she really cares about each student and loves teaching. It made me actually want to come to class even if I was tired. I'm never taking a 8:00 class again, but that wasn't her fault.
By far the best Professor that I've ever had!! I learned so much.
Cares about her students, funny stories, and you can tell that she loves teaching.
Professor Wonnell is the best instructor I've ever had! She legit wants every student to pass her class. And she uses a FREE textbook online. Plus she's funny AF.
For me English writing is difficult because it is not my primary language. I enjoyed Proffessor Wonnell so much because she took time to explain things carefully and made sure that we understood how to be successful writers in all of college. My favorite class in all of college in the United States.
She is literally so amazing and is so helpful she truly cares for her students. In high school English was one my bad subjects but I am doing fantastic in her class. I look forward to this class and actually learn a lot from her. She creates a nice environment with everyone. 10/10 would recommend. I am taking her next class English 1b :)
Loved this class! Learned so much and actually enjoyed going to class. Tough grader on our reports but I got better at writing because of her feedback. She clearly loves her students and loves teaching. Recommend to everyone!!
Very friendly and caring. Always willing to help. The class was focused mostly on writing, and was very helpful in teaching how to write a variety of papers. Not too hard, and created a welcoming environment. None of the papers are too long, and you get to pick your topic for a lot of them.
The way Professor Wonnell structures her class has helped me with writing. There are lots of in-class group work/activities. I had to do three short essay, an 1800 word research paper, and a portfolio reflecting those four papers. She makes the class fun and engaging. One of the best English educator I have taken.
Best English teacher i've ever had! I had her for English 1A. Classes are based off of activity-based learning. No tests, Only 4 essays, 10 sets of book questions on canvas and a final portfolio at the end of the year. Highly recommend her! She's an awesome teacher!
Professor Wonnell is the best. There are four essays, one book to read, and no tests, and she offers 10 points extra credit for every essay if you go to the writing center. Not showing up to class will definitely effect your grade though as she does a small group activity almost every class for credit. I will be taking her for 1B next semester.
Wonnell is such an amazing professor!! She really cares for her students and I took her for English 1B. There is 1 reflective essay and discussion boards every Thursday. Quizzes are due on Friday but they are online and answers are from the online text book she gives. Definitely would take her again if I had to take another English :)
Professor Wonnell is a wonderful English teacher. Her cirriculum is less stressful and less packed than the other professors. She utilizes humor and group activities to learn the concepts of this course. There are in class assignments that go towards your grade. We did multiple papers, but they were easy to do.
Ive taken 1A and 1B with Professor Wonnell and she is truly the best. 1B with her was great. There was only one paper along with weekly discussion questions and a weekly quiz (super short and easy). Extra credit was available but was hardly needed as the class is an easy A. You do need to show up for group activities in class but thats it.
Professor Wonnell is the BEST teacher I've ever had in high school or college. She made it very clear that she wanted all of her students to learn and be successful and was super supportive when I was going through some hard personal stuff. She calls every class her "favorite class" which we all know but still feels good anyway.
My friend recommended her, so I'm taking Professor Wonnell for my online Summer class. We are working through so much stuff super fast, but she is AMAZING!!! Definitely the best teacher I've ever had!! Cramming all this reading and writing into 8 weeks is brutal, but she gives really clear feedback and I'm learning so much! I love her!!
Prof. Wonnell is the best teacher that I've ever had! She grades really tough on papers, but gives feedback that actually makes sense so I could make my papers better. A summer class is WAY too fast, but she had a clear schedule and didn't change it. We read a full-length nonfiction book and it was probably the only one I've actually ever read!
I took this class the summer after my soph. year in hs and it was definitely doable. She grades really tough on papers and doesn't give you the rubric she graded so you don't know what you missed. Awesome non fiction book with 2-3 chapters per week, wasn't bad. 2 quizzes a week, 1 discussion, 1 final (it was tricky), and 4 essays (tough grader).
The most fun English class and teacher Ive ever had. Shes very helpful and caring, so if you ever need help just ask. Quizzes are easy to follow and are not timed. Assignments are easy to do/understand. Allow students to an open DB for feedback and ideas. Writing assignments are based on best novel. I would definitely recommend taking this class!
The greatest teacher if you really want to improve your writing skills. Enthusiastic about teaching and is really chill, honest, and funny. Lots of coursework but it is an English class. The textbook isn't necessary but you will have to read the novel and answer questions every week. The kind of professor that leaves a lasting impression on you
I am currently in Professor Wonnell's Online English class this semester and I am loving it. I generally don't like English because I don't like reading or writing, but neither were a big issue. I loved the book we focused on in the class it was really inspiring. For writing, we only wrote 3 big papers and a portfolio at the end. I enjoyed this cla
I had her class a year ago (spring 2019) and I still think about her from time to time. I wish I could've had her for many more classes. Tamalpais was caring, funny, cool, smart, helpful, and interesting. She had us work on books that pertained to important social issues, analyzed poems, lyrics, and short stories. It was so fun!
I took professor tamalpais online and I loved her! She was organized and the work was easy to understand. On your essays, she gave you a Chance to revise for your final portfolio project. I did a zoom session with her to get specific answers on how to revise and she was so helpful! I got an a on the final project. She was caring and a great prof
Professor Wonnell is the most extraordinary instructor I've had in any English course. Taking her class as a condensed summer course did naturally lead to a very large workload, but she is a phenomenal guide. I went into her class as a competent writer, but her incredible feedback still improved my writing tremendously. I learned so much from her.
Professor Wonnell is the sweetest and most understanding professor I've had. You don't have to pay for the book, it's a free online textbook. But you do need to get the book Just Mercy by Bryan Stevenson. Quizzes aren't due until the end of the term but I recommend you get them finished asap. Papers are somewhat easy.
Absolutely love her. She was my professor for my first semester at Sierra and she seriously set me up for success. Doesn't believe in long lectures and finds ways to make it fun and interactive so you're not just sitting there. Would take again for sure. No textbook needed, she provided anything we needed. Take her and you won't regret it!!
Professor Wonnel is an incredible teacher, she cares deeply and gives incredible feedback on the 4 essays required for this class. Work on the final project early, DO NOT PROCRASTINATE. Edit your papers as you get them graded and returned. The class is all around the book Just Mercy and racial injustice, this class changed my life. Favorite class.
Probably one of the best teacher I've had.
She is not very understanding and gives a ton of work. In a week we have to do reading questions for a book chapter on top of a quiz about writing assignments and weve had to write about seven papers the semester not including the final project. She is a tough grader and does not like to explain herself, would not recommend.
Professor Wright is the best instructor that I've ever had!! It is clear that she loves her students and really wants everyone to be successful in the class. Reading - one nonfiction book, Writing - three main writing assignments & final project. She gives constructive feedback and I'm a better writer because of her. Highly recommend to anyone!
People come on Ratemyprofessor to find a perfect Professor for themselves , and she is a perfect Professor for everyone. You will not be disappointed. If she taught all subjects, I would choose her for every single one. She offers extra credit, has pass peers, and Zoom classes are available almost everyday (optional). In 20 yrs, I will remember her
Professor Wright is nice, but her class has a lot of work and the papers are harshly graded. The work includes: Reading Questions - based on Just Mercy chapters Discussions - Really easy, based on questions or Ted talks Quizzes - Really simple, can be done anytime in the semester Essays - Three of them and a final project revising them
There's a reason you only see positive reviews on Professor Wonnell's page. She cares for her students and their success and it shows. The workload isn't too heavy and her grading isn't harsh either, she gives good helpful feedback. English is a hard subject for me and I was able to get an A, put in the work and you will too.
One of the best English teacher at Sierra. Had her class online and you can tell she really does the best for her students. Not an easy class for me tho. Be ready to read a lot and write a lot. I worked hard but would take her class again for sure.
Pretty easy class with minimal work. I took this class over the summer and had no issue whatsoever with keeping up. She is a very good teacher and gives you great feedback on how to improve your papers. Just put in the effort and this is an easy A
She is awesome.
After I got my first essay back I was upset! I got a 75% and thought the grading was harsh. However, after I went through the feedback I saw where my mistakes were and the details from Prof Wright were super helpful. She lets us revise the essay for the final project and I already know that it is going to be so much better because of her input!
Professor Wright is an amazing instructor. I took her class at the beginning of COVID and chose to drop with an excused W late in the semester because I really wanted to be successful; I knew retaking her class could only help me further develop my skills. I had to wait a few semesters to get a spot in her class again and she is worth the wait!
Professor Tamal is fair and very flexible. She genuinely wants her students to succeed and this shows through the organization of her class structure. Get ready to read a book with weekly reading questions, weekly quizzes (that can be taken ahead of time) and weekly DB's. It's a lot of work but I learned a lot and would take her class(s) again.
Hands down most amazing professor I've ever had. I took her for multiple classes over multiple semesters. She loves to see her students succeed and will do anything to get them there. She extended due dates on many big projects and even gave us an extra 2 days on the final project. I adore her. TAKE HER CLASS!
took her over the summer and honestly she was super easy. Just keep up with the reading and you will be fine!
Good Professor, but too many personal, one-sided political views for an English class. No thanks.
Really easy. Just read, Quizzes are easy as well. Mark up the reading material and have very thoughtful answers. Be opinionated!!
Classes were all graded, meaning if you missed a class you'd lose out on points. There's two BIG assignments that are needed to finish, which are relatively easy. This class is fine so long as you put in the time and read Just Mercy, which is the only material that's needed. She was amazing to have and I always was wanting to come back to class.
Overall super easy class and be ready for daily assignments. You're able to get ahead on assignments if you want.Tough grader only on essays, but not for anything else. You're able to take the daily quizzes twice if you didn't get the desired score on the first try. The weekly reading questions will be the most time consuming. Definitely recommend!
Most fun English class I have ever taken. Professor Wright is so fun and makes the class so engaging and enjoyable. Attendance is worth points so make sure to show up to every class. Show up to class, finish the online assignments, and put in some effort into writing the big papers and you will do great.
She was an amazing teacher, the only struggle I had with grades was with my research paper. She gives great feedback, my personal advice is to remember to use the third person, academic tone, and mlm 9th edition to a T. If you are having trouble just ask questions and go to the pass peer she's amazing. 10/10 would take her class again!!
Love prof Wright, I really enjoyed her class. If writing is a struggle for you then the class will be more challenging, but prof Wright and her peer tutor provide all the support you could possibly need; you just need to reach out. A good amount of reading, but nothing difficult. Lots of writing, so stay on top of your work!
I had Professor Wright online for English 1A last semester and she was wonderful. From the moment we began, it was evident that she possessed a genuine passion for the English language and literature. Every discussion was filled with engagement and critical thinking. There is a bit of reading involved, but nothing to complain about.
I don't really remember if I liked her or not. I think I did because I don't remember anything bad about her. But, get ready to read and write essays!!!
Professor Wright clearly loves her students and wants everyone to be successful in English class and in college! She is a tough grader but give a lot of great constructive feedback. I took it as an accelerated course so it was really hard to keep up, but that's just the nature of an 8-week class. Definitely would recommend this class to anyone!
Professor Wright is great to learn from. She is a difficult grader but gives great feedback. She does give extra credit! Be sure to read the syllabus, and read the book! I took her over the summer and only had to complete 2 essays. Unsure how many essays she does for the full course. Be ready to read. I would definitely recommend her for English.
Professor Wright is a tough grader on essays and writing assignments, but outside of that, she is very kind and understanding. It takes late work but does take points off, offers extra credit (do it), and weekly assignments are very doable. I didn't do well on the essay, but I did all the classwork and still passed.
I too
The best teacher I've ever had. Literally changed my major to English because of her and I used to hate English classes. She loves teaching and her students and it is obvious that she will do whatever to make sure they make it through the class. People say tough grader but she gives you all the tools to be successful and gives lots of feedback.
She has been one of my favorite professors even though I felt she was a tougher grader (that might just be due to my writing style). I love the material she teaches around, it's modern and engaging. She's incredibly caring and understanding while making sure she's free if you need her. I would have loved to take the next Eng class with her.
She's nice and easygoing overall and is there to help when you need it. The textbook is all free online, and she gives ec opportunities. Only negative thing is that she grades on the nitty gritty things a lot, esp effort and technical stuff. A plus is that there's a small & even amount of work do to each week, take the class!
Professor Wright-Wonnell is an amazing teacher. Her class was fun and she is really caring. I took the 8 week accelerated class, therefore the workload was very heavy and I was spending at least 10 hours a week doing all the assignments. Even though it was a lot, Professor Wright-Wonnell did an amazing job guiding the class and gave good feedback.
Best instructor I've ever had. Barely passed but I knew Ms.Wright was in my corner and was going to help me pass the clas no matter what. I suck at reading but she let me listen to the audio book and then use the real book for citing things. Really she's the reason i'm staying in college. I wish all teachers cared that much abt their students.
Ms. Wright is a wonderful professor! Her classes are very group focused, 95% of class-time is dedicated to working collaboratively. There is a large workload, usually 3 assignments a week (though english 1A is a hybrid class) but there is only a 2000 word research paper, a 1000 word Just Mercy analysis, and a 50 point Just Mercy exam.
Took her half online half in person, she assigned a good amount of homework but some of it you can complete ahead of time. Each week you can expect the same amount of workload, and I personally didn't think that in class lectures related much to online portion. She taught MLA really well, and big part of class was writing a research paper.
Professor Wright is hands down my favorite professor at Sierra, she is an amazing teacher that cares. If you are rude and won't participate in her class, don't expect it to be easy, she is there to help you so take advantage of it. Any class will be hard if you don't put in the work and do assignments at the last minute, so don't. She's amazing :)
Professor Wright is an engaging teacher who genuinely cares about her students. While the workload can be heavy, she provides great feedback and opportunities for extra credit. unstuck ai was a game-changer for study prep!
If I could describe Prof. Wright in a few words it would be girlboss, they always made sure to give clear feedback and the writing assignments built up to the big research paper which made it a breeze to get done. The reading book “Just Mercy” is an emotional and inspirational read. Overall, my fav English instructor ever and absolutely slays.
Took this as an 8 week course, she is very organized and has the class structured in a way that was beneficial to me. Highly recommend taking this class with prof. Wright if you need a class with structure. She only wants what is best for her students. Homework and class assignments align perfectly together.
Prof.Wright is the best teacher I've had at Sierra and maybe ever. Loved the book we read and the class was hard but I learned a lot. She always emailed me back right away and was always willing to help me. My sister also took her class but the online one, but we both thought it was really good.
Best English Professor! I took an 8 week course and it was a breeze. We would have 5 assignments a week and I love how she made our essay be due mid July because this allowed me to finish the class early! She cares about her student's success and offers EC! Responds go emails quickly! Not a tough grader! We got to read Just Mercy and it was awesome
Professor Wright is amazing! The reading she assigns is beneficial and interesting, and her assignments are meant to set you up for success. She is a tough grader, but she is very caring. To make sure you succeed, email her or meet with her, she is very helpful.
W professor.
The assignments are clearly built on each other, which helped a lot. I appreciated the clear expectations, detailed feedback, and flexibility throughout the semester. The readings and discussions were meaningful and encouraged deeper thinking rather than busywork. Overall, this class helped me grow academically, and I would recommend it to others!
