Breath of fresh air! The best first year prof I had by far. Explains complicated topics really well and keeps the entire class entertained! Organized and always uploads notes etc in a timely fashion. Very approachable.
She makes topics way more confusing than they have to be and it is very unclear what is important and not. She is very full of herself and I never looked forward to her lectures. Overall just a terrible prof and I don't understand how other students liked her.
Tamara does not make the learning objectives clear. She marks fairly, and posts most material online. However, I studied this material harder than any other class in my life, but the tests had so many questions that were unfamiliar to anything we saw in lectures. Although you can still pass this class, she doesn't make it enjoyable whatsoever.
Tamara at first seemed like an amazing prof. Many people had great words to say about her, however when it can to the class portion she assumed that we knew many concepts in chemistry. Used to jump around and skip the details which made concepts very unclear . Effort needs to put in and you MUST read the book and attempt ALL excercises.
Give her a simple math problem and watch her struggle
Overall? I thought Tamara was pretty good. Lectures were clear for the most part. She was kind of funny but in a sad sort of way, like when your mom makes an internet meme. Don't bother buying the model kit. I only used the textbook for the practice exercises, I'd recommend sharing one with a friend if you can. Doesn't post full notes online.
Started off the year (as in basic Grade 11 chem review) with a great opinion of her, but it dropped fast... She tends to make really simple concepts really difficult due to the way she jumps around so much. Chemistry she understands, math can be a struggle for her. However, she has a passion for chem, is accessible, and has purple hair :)
The content was somewhat challenging, but interesting. She could be a little confusing at times, but I don't think that it made much of a difference on my understanding. Tamara encourages students to seek extra help and promotes different ways to do that. Most of the marks came from tests, but lots of opportunities were given for "free" marks.
Fair midterms but she's very unorganized and doesn't seem to know her content very well. I relied on youtube videos, some explanations from the textbook (which can be rented online from cengagebrain for much cheaper) and my previous knowledge of chemistry.
Fun class. Sometimes she gets confused doing math. Sometimes I could've explained things better. No notes online so go to class. Repeat of my grade 12 chemistry class. Tests were pretty easy. Sometimes she is a bit harsh but she is cool and loud. Don't get the model kit. Found the textbook helpful.
terrible teacher. she barely understands the material herself and it shows in her ability to communicate it
Doesn't give you notes ahead of time and stumbles through them in class often making simple math mistakes. 2 midterms that were easy, because the course is very similar to Chem 12 and she's nice enough to give you practice midterm. Final was BRUTAL. Much harder than the midterms. Went down from 90 to 82 due to the final. Don't buy model kit.
I had Tamara for CHEM 121 and 123, both relatively easy courses. She's a little disorganized at times and I wasn't a big fan of her notes. However, she does put her powerpoints online, which is nice (you have to come to class for her written notes). Personality-wise, she's very friendly and very willing to help outiside of class.
Tests are set up in a terrible fashion. 3 tests were given with all being worth around 15-16 marks, leaving no room for error. Also, tests had a group portion. Despite the group part being worth 15%, half of the test time was devoted to this part of the test. Teaching wise she isn't great either as lectures are little more than copy what she writes
Her midterms are the most stressful things I've ever experienced. She gives very little time and, even though the questions aren't too difficult, you're mainly focused on getting them done as fast as possible, as she keeps reminding you how much time's left. Those tests do Not make a good representation of our knowledge.
Quite honestly, I don't think she knows the material as well as she should. There have been more than a few times that students have pointed out errors in her slides. Although most of this class review, she makes these simple topics confusing somehow. I think its due to her organization and that she doesnt follow the textbook AT ALL! DONT BUY IT!
The worst prof I have had to date! Utterly confusing, disorganized lectures with the material not making any sense until you utilize the CCU or SL sessions. (Both are life savers) Also attendance is important as she takes in clicker marks first thing every day. Would highly suggest just avoiding her classes and saving yourself the headache.
be prepared to watch a lot of videos because she is extremely fast and unorganized her teaching style is very confusing also you are learning the entire course yourself for the most part youtube videos help more than she does she yells a lot and is very loud and unapproachable if you are not good at chemistry do not take her
Worst prof Ive had in my university career so far (second year). Chapter reading from textbook which isnt bad, but when she discusses the material in class her notes are so messy and unorganized, other students have called her out on her information being incorrect, she yells a lot... Takes her sweet time answering emails 12/10 do NOT recommend
Lecturer? More like a stand-up comedian.
Makes simple concepts confusing. 3,15min midterms are horrible representation of the final. The final had things much harder than anything we learned in class, or on the midterms/quizzes. Flipped classes/guided inquiries are a joke. She makes you teach yourself even though you're paying her to lecture. Daily participation marks. Worst prof ever.
The three-term tests she gives are useful in terms of keeping you in check for the final. Unfortunately, she did a horrible job preparing her students for the final. Her notes are very unorganized and scattered. Flipped-class activities do nothing and she does not teach the concepts very well. Read the textbook before a term test!!!
The way she presents information in lectures is very clear and concise. Revising off her powerpoints or notes would definitely earn you good grades. Be sure to attend class for clickers as they really solidify your knowledge of the content.
Has three 25 min term tests that were probably the biggest waste of time on earth. Never been under so much pressure in my life for a midterm. The midterms are a poor representation of content because of the limited time. Final was an actual kick in the ass. You don't really need the textbook, just go to class and SL. rushes thru things a lot.
Tamara is a very nice prof. She cares about her students. Her teaching is par, and her midterms are mediocre. She can be confusing at times, and cant do math, but she is passionate. If you go talk to her and attend the ccu and the sl sessions you will be fine.
The 25 minute long exams are very pressurizing even if you know your stuff. She does try to make them simple and if you understand all the slides she posts, you can do really well on exams and quizzes. TEXTBOOK ISN'T USED and she yells too much, especially during exams, making it hard to approach her. Avoid her if you're not strong in chem.
Second time taking this course and may fail again on account of prof, disorganized and rushed. Stands at the front and yells at you, treats you like kindergarteners. Not approachable. Short time frame for midterms and you lose time when she's making sure everybody is in the right spot for their group portion. Overall stressful and self-taught class
I love this class. This prof made me fall in love with chemistry. She is nice and very clear on what she is teaching super easy to follow!
Hilarious class atmosphere. A good prof., she is very systematic, hardly (sometimes) not logic and makes mistakes, but overall is organized and not very hard to follow. However, not a very friendly and accessible person. Pragmatic and even preemptive. If you ask a question that she is not interested in, she'd show a "you-are-wasting-time" look.
Tamara is a really nice person and is very easy to talk to. Her lecture is entertaining and she clearly understands chemistry well. She tries to help all her students succeed and that is evident in her actions. Only negative thing is her tests because they are really short and easy and are nothing like the final exam.
Tamara is a super passionate prof and really cares that her students do well. She is super approachable and loves it when you visit during office hours and really tries her best to make sure you understand every concept.
She is not perfect by any means, but overall I have great respect for her and I think she is a great professor. She seems really caring. I understand some people may not like the way she yells/speak loud at times, but I don't find it as a big issue. The length of the midterm is stressful, but if you really know your stuff you can finish it in time
She is all over the place. Tamara thinks that writing on a projector will teach everything. When the material starts to get hard, she tends to go very fast without explaining why things are. She will write super fast, then expect us to answer a question 30 seconds after she gives a brief example.
Tamara tends to give out a lot of worksheets rather than teaching the material, she makes lots of simple errors and doesnt explain material well when she does lecture
She is a great prof and it is obvious she cares about her students success. She is very passionate about chemistry and does a good job explaining concepts. There are lots of flipped class activities so show up to her lectures and you will do well on the exams.
Tamara is a very good professor. She does many in class work sheets which allows the student to understand the material. Overall I enjoyed her and would take her again!
I have really enjoyed her as my prof and I don't understand why she has the rating that she does. I would definitely recommend her !
The best thing I can say about the course was that its not too hard if you study and carefully read canvas. However, I wish she would just straight up tell you what we are doing, and what we need to know rather than meandering around the point for an hour and a half. She also buries you in Canvas notifications, so be careful not to miss the quizzes
I really enjoyed Tamara's lectures, I thought she explained all of the concepts well and focused on areas that were tested on. She covered a lot in the lectures, so missing them isn't a great idea. She also really likes to use clicker questions, but a lot of them are just for participation, not correct answers.
Tamara is a wonderful prof, she has a lot of methods of teaching which in particular add to the reason as to why she's a good prof. Her guided inquiries and clickers are very helpful to learn better. She also is a great speaker overall therefore, attending her classes are fun! Although she still does not upload any past years finals/exam pattern.
Easily my worst professor of first year. Terrible at explaining concepts and is constantly all over the place. Midterms are incredibly short and cover little of the information "taught" in class, so a few wrong marks on obscure topics can sink your grade. The final was also much harder than anything covered in lecture. She doesn't use a mic either?
She encourages students to do the inquiry-based learning, which can help you understand the course material better.
Do not understand why she has such a poor rating, she is by far the best prof I had this semester. You can tell she is there to teach and explains things in multiple ways for people to better understand. She writes her notes out with you in class which helps you keep pace with her. Really recommend this prof.
I would avoid her if you can. The examples given in lecture do not in anyway reflect the difficulty of material on exams. The amount of questions on her two-stage exams does not reflect the short time limit. Although she is super passionate and creates good notes, she cannot seem to explain topics well at all. Read the textbook and hope to pass.
Run. Profs get f's too. Nothing personal.
Dr. Freeman is really passionate about chem. Her rating is a little harsh - she's really accessible outside class and helpful. The tests were more basic and the final was pretty hard. I've seen her a couple times for extra help and she doesn't do a great job at completely dumbing things down. The tutorial is really helpful. Clickers for particip.
Tamara has a wonderful personality. She was my lecture instructor and my TA for one of my lab. Tamara is a brilliant women and works hard to insprire positive learning in all ages. However, Tamara stuggles to teach when students don't work hard to stay involved. Go see her if you dont understand something; she is better teaching in smaller groups.
Abysmal professor. Her notes are awful because she writes a few words from the sentence she's speaking, and when you read them in the future, they make no sense at all.
Nothing you will ever do can prepare you for her finals. They are ridiculously hard, and are wayyyyyy harder than the midterms. I only show up for clicker marks, other than that the lectures are useless and hard to keep up with what she is saying (yelling). Would recommend avoiding if possible.
Really not great. Does a bad job at explaining complicated concepts. Teaches chemistry as if you've already taken the class and know what's going on, which really isn't the case. Clickers and clicker assignment things were more helpful than any of her lectures. If you want to teach the course to yourself then she's your gal.
Tamara was a very energetic prof, I cant get over the fact that her notes had so many spelling mistakes tho. I found she moves too quickly even if I do the pre-readings and she tries to explain simple concepts in a complicated manner that its easy to get lost in her lectures. At one point I just mindlessly took notes and learned by myself :/
I love her energy but, she just doesn't give assignments at all. It's all test based. To me it seems that she doesn't offer much for outside resources to practice on. She gives zero practice questions.
Dr Freeman is an amazing prof who really goes out of her way to help her students. Her tutorial sessions are also very helpful and she personally goes through the questions together with us. I personally am not majoring in chemistry nor do I like chemistry one bit, but I really enjoyed her lectures and tutorials. I'd definitely take her again!
Extremely horrible professor. Does not explain concepts properly, and assumes that everyone learned the concepts before. Not helpful during tutorials to some students due to her being biased towards certain students. Utilize the SL sessions or other sources to learn, or you will fail this course.
Tamara is a really energetic, fun person, however I found her to be a bit scatterbrained as a prof. Her notes were very hard to follow because she bounces around between concepts instead of going in a linear fashion. Tests were difficult. Show up to class for the clickers, but be prepared to teach yourself from the textbook.
Tamara makes you work for your grade but she also gives you a ton of ways to learn and prepare like in class group work and a bunch of clicker questions. She also gives you a five minute break halfway through class to check your phone and get everything out of your system so you can stay focused, her lectures are super entertaining and engaging.
This is one of my favourite personable professors i've ever met. She really really care about teaching and helping students in anyway she can. her material is tough, but there is tons of supplementary support for the course at UBC O. She is an absolute delight, she's so energetic and happy. Real pleasure to have her as my prof.
Really great prof! Passionate about chemistry and in general . Her lecture style is great with lots of active learning and real life applications. Tamara really gives you all the resources you need to succeed and learn chemistry well !!
Tamara is a nice prof who is great for one on one help, but her lectures are horrible. They are not organized and her notes do not help at all. I taught myself this entire course by watching youtube videos. Midterms are fair, final is stupidly hard and nothing like the midterms. SL and CCU are helpful to actually understand the content.
Really difficult content and she goes through it way too fast and her lecture slides are confusing. If she slowed down and more organize, it would be way easier to enjoy the class. Though she does put in an effort to be available to help students along with the teaching assistants.
Tamara is an amazing person and amazing prof. Unfortunately she can just get a bad rap cuz people blame her and say she's a bad prof when really its the course material. Theres alot of new concepts, 121 was way easier cuz so much was just additions from highschool but now its getting hard and people blame Tamara which is so wrong, she's a gem.
Tamara clearly knows her stuff when it comes to chemistry. She does teach very quickly, so don't be caught slacking on your phone and make sure to participate in every class. She also uploads tutorial questions which I found very helpful for preparing for midterms and quizzes. First term she wasn't my cup of tea, but I've grown fond of her.
Tamara is an overall good prof when it comes to lectures... I found the material generally understandable most of the time. However, her finals are AWFUL. Focus on details and pay attention to any review questions or tutorials she posts cause often there will be stuff on their that wasn't covered in class to help on future exams.
For the Course Chem123 is a lot to tackle and Tamara brings the energy and interactive activities that are needed. She is very helpful outside of class. The one downfall I had was note-taking. She can go fast at times and sometimes I feel that her notes are a little messy and confusing. If you're having trouble use OrganicChemTutor on youtube!
I really liked Tamara. I thought she explained things well (just a little fast). You definitely need to spend a decent amount of time working on it outside of class, but that's possible because she doesn't assign homework. Not as accessible as she makes herself seen, I've found she doesn't usually answer my emails. Other than that liked her.
Tamara is super energetic and passionate. She does her best to get all 300+ students actively learning. She's very friendly and accessible! However her lectures are weirdly organized, which lead to a lot of confusion. She also has pretty tough tests. It's all covered in class, but sometimes only taught once and briefly. Be prepared for everything.
Not everyone will like the way Tamara teaches her classes but in my opinion as long as you show up and pay attention it's quite easy to get a good grade. At times it's a little hard to keep up since she speeds through explanations and is a little loud but she's accessible outside of class and really easy to approach. Midterms are SUPER easy.
I know a lot of students who didn't like her but I though she was great. I really liked and understood her teaching style and had an easy time learning. She was also the "TA" for my lab section and was always super friendly and approachable. She's a fair grader and is always available for extra help if you need it.
I found chem 121 to be pretty average. Tamara gives you all the tools necessary to succeed in her class and it is just up to you to use them. There were pre-recorded lectures and synchronous non-mandatory meetings. She is very understanding and has a lot of patience, a very kind woman for sure. I enjoyed her class and have her gain for chem 123.
Tamara is an awesome prof and explains things quite well. Labs are pretty grueling.
Tamara is an absolute sweetheart. The content isn't too bad, and she has a lot of practice worksheets and exams. This woman has A LOT of patience and seems quite approachable. She is open to test remarks which is great. Interactive lecture components are super helpful. Prepare to work hard for your marks, though! It won't be easy.
Dr. Freeman is great, and the content is generally okay, but the online labs are brutal. I will blame the online setting, but I feel like something could be done about it. We have to teach ourselves so much of the content and not much is posted on Canvas regarding instruction. You really have to make sure to take note of/remember everything said.
Professor Freeman is a very good professor. She is very clear with what she teaches and does many activities in order to help students understand the material being learned. Tests are fair, and at the end you get to choose the weight of the assignments/tests you did. I highly recommend this course
She is a nice person BUT the classes are very disorganized. She does these "flipped classes" where we basically have to teach ourselves... like I'm not the prof lmao. If it wasn't for the flipped classes I think I'd be fine but I personally did not learn efficiently that way. There were many technical errors as well. She is enthusiastic though!
Tamara is such a sweetheart! She is one of my favourite profs and made first year was easier! Her midterms and extremely fair testing and is super clear about the expectations on them! If you pay attention and do assignments it can be an easy A!! Online labs however were BRUTAL with little to no instruction but that is the courses fault not Tamaras
First things things tamara is a very good teacher, but the way she structured her course online was absolutely horrible. She posted pre-recored lectures which were great!. However, she then would hold live lectures where she would say they were not mandatory, but really they were cause we did so many activities. It was honestly just so confusing.
Good teacher. The live online lectures are mandatory even if she says they aren't, because she takes very brief notes, so you won't know what's going on if you just use those. She is very enthusiastic and helpful in the live lectures however, and it's clear she wants everyone to succeed. The online labs were not great, but that's not her fault.
Tamara Freeman was a decent prof, she was extremely caring towards her student which helped although I struggled to learn from the way she ran her lectures. I would take her again although not my favorite prof.
Tamara is a very caring prof with clear expectations for her students. She is very enthusiastic in her live lectures, and gives lots of helpful practice questions in the lectures. The lectures can be a little disorganized but is willing to help if you are confused. These lectures are highly recommended, even if she says they aren't.
Tamara was an amazing prof! She explained things very well, and adjusted to online teaching very well. She was super helpful in explaining everything that students did not understand, and always gave us lots of materials to study for exams. I am taking chem with her again next semester and am really looking forward to it! Defiantly recommend Tamara
During her lectures Tamara is so enthusiastic and fun, I always looked forward to a lecture with her. Although it wasnt mandatory, highly suggested to attend for a better grasp. Although live lectures could be a bit chaotic; she explained concepts well. Lots of in class participation.
Very nice teacher, the "live" flipped classes were kinda confusing but did bump my grade up a bit. I did decent in this course because I used my notes from highschool.
Tamara is an amazing professor. She is always there for her students and is willing to regrade any test! She put in such hard work over the first semester of Chemistry 121 online and continued to try her best. Would definitely take a class with her again!
Dr. Freeman is a very caring and approachable prof. Her class was pretty well organized but at times I felt overwhelmed and didn't even know what we were suppose to be learning. On her examinations it is expected you know the content so well that you are able to apply it to never seen before questions. This may be fair in person, but not online.
If you did chem 12 in high school, this course is relatively easy. Her pre-recorded lectures help, but the live ones tell you more details and give you more examples. The flipped activities are confusing, and you have to read about them a few times to understand. She does not use the text book, but gives you some optional readings.
Tamara is the SWEETEST !! She is so enthusiastic and passionate about chem, and willing to adapt and help her students as much as possible. The course is very interactive and interesting, labs are super chill, the tests are kinda tough but they were open book and we were allowed to talk to friends, so overall pretty good.
Tamara is a lovely person! She is one of my favourite professors as she tends to fully explain all the course material even if it could be "common knowledge". She is very thorough and actually made me enjoy chemistry! Shes slightly unorganized sometimes but overall, shes very understanding and will answer all questions in very good depth! loved her
While Tamara is very nice she is a terrible prof. She didn't teach us once this semester, all her live lectures were q&a rather than teaching. All the prelectures, which actually taught the content, were made by another professor. She also failed to tell us the final exam rules and details until two days it, despite all the changes to the og rules
I personally found this class very difficult, especially compared to previous chemistry classes. However I did find Tamara to be a fun, kind, and caring professor who did always want the best for her students. Just be prepared for difficult tests because often I found them a lot harder than the practice problems/what was presented in the lecture.
I hope she takes these reviews personally because they are all true. No offense to her.
she has a bunch of quizzes throughout the year and she takes the top 8, she is genuinely a very good teacher and class was fun. she is super pasionate and made chemistry easier in a lot of ways. her miderms and finals are very fair. the only critique is that sometimes it felt like she was fishing for participation and class took forever
I'm surprised by number of low ratings! I enjoyed Tamaras lectures and found the flipped classes very helpful for clarifying tricky concepts. This course was very difficult, though, and required a lot of work/reading outside of class. I took this during the pandemic and found the online system disorganized for this course.
She is a really good prof, and I'd say as long as you put in the effort you would get a solid grade. Don't understand why some of the guys here gave her 2/5, haters will always hate I guess, LOL. No, but seriously she's probably one of the nicest and most helpful profs you can find for first-year science.
Very dedicated and patient professor
A.M.A.Z.I.N.G. Loved every bit of this class. Tamara is very organized and posts all her notes so studying for exams is no issue, everything you need you can easily find. She explains materials well, and makes her lectures very engaging. She deserves a 5/5 for all the effort she puts into her classes!
Tamara is one of my favourite profs from this semester. She explains things well, and the activities she does in class really help with learning the material. I personally did not use the textbook and still did decently well on exams. I found that worksheets and the in class activities were sufficient.
TKF is a lovely person, but as a professor she goes through material very fast and often has notes that are not very helpful. As long as you go to lectures, take notes and put in a lot of effort outside of class you should be okay but don't rely on her teaching to get you through it.
Tamara is a good prof. I can tell she puts lots of time and effort into the class. The flipped classes were enjoyable and helped me learn the subject at hand. The midterms and final were fair however I did find the content quizzes kinda hard. Also, the skeleton notes were poorly designed as they often lacked space. Overall though, great class.
I found Tamara to be a fun prof. Although she could move fast sometimes through the material it was manageable content. A pretty chill class that was well put together and organized. The flipped class videos were great along with the guided inquiries.
Tamara is a nice person, but she makes such simple concepts seem so complex, especially when she goes so fast. At one point I stopped attending class and dedicated my time to watching The organic chemistry tutor on youtube, and I did great in the course! The concepts are honestly easy, they just need to be taught properly.
Tamara is a great prof. The lectures can be intense but as long as you are showing up and putting in the work you will do great. Highly recommend going to the tutorials, the worksheets are helpful to review when studying for midterms. The midterms and exam had no surprises, as long as you review the material you will do well.
Super messy with her notes, even though the content wasn't that hard she overcomplicates things. She may seem nice to the whole class but she's quite rude if you ask her a question. Overall I would definitely avoid her!
No review materials, yells so much you go deaf in her lectures.
She seems kind outside of class but she's pretty disorganized during lecture. Her material isn't very easy to follow, her tests are SO much harder than you'd anticipate (and the quizzes too). Her tutorials are helpful but you need to do a lot of reviewing and homework to gain confidence overall. She can also be hard to reach throughout the term.
She's not the best at explaining things and she goes over the hardest, most difficult to understand topics way too fast. The SL leaders are honestly better teachers than her. If you go to SL sessions and CCU Review Sessions you should do pretty well. The midterms were fair but the final was so much harder than both midterms. Tamara's a sweet person
Tamara is a well-respected prof at UBCO. Her class was the lowest graded class I took this semester. Her midterms and final were challenging. Some of her explanations and lectures were very confusing at times. She is very funny and a truly amazing human. I would love to have coffee with her but not be taught by her again.
Overall, I enjoyed the class. Freeman is fun and explains in a lot of detail, some of the topics were explained confusingly. Lots of in-class activities. I was doing quite well until the final. I would say it's twice as hard as the midterms. Still did okay but looking back I would have focused way more on the final exam.
She is a nice PERSON but NOT a good prof. She makes the lecture material harder than the should really be b/c of being disorganized. She is also not really approachable throughout the term. I prefer having a time frame and not having to email the prof every time I'm trying to see them for a problem or sth. I'd totally avoid her if I could.
Sometimes disorganized and not the best at explaining. Only provides skeleton notes so its important to fill it out and take notes. If you participate in the in class activities and practice the concepts in class, its an easy A.
Tamara is a super friendly person, but the worst professor that i've ever had. She is super unorganized, jumps all over the place and does not explain concepts thoroughly and hardly offers any worked examples to go off of. Also does not offer any extra practice problems to help prepare for midterms, feels like she just leaves you hanging.
Tamara is a wonderful first year chemistry teacher, and I liked her teaching for CHEM 123 a lot. However, it is her first time teaching CHEM 214 and unfortunately she is not doing a good job. There is no extra practice problems on canvas which our last prof gave, does not explain well, have had to learn the course on my own, thank god for Leah4sci.
Tamara is a wonderful person, but as a professor, she is Not Good. Her class was disorganized and she often made mistakes in lecture that she came back to correct later. Exams were medium difficulty, but very little practice problems made them difficult. This is her first time teaching 214 so I hope she gets better - SL is your best bet to do well!
Tamara was a wonderful person, however, would avoid her as a professor again. Did not provide any material for practice outside of lectures other than some textbook questions which did not reflect the exams. SL is your best bet but it's impossible if your timetable schedule doesn't line up!
As a person, I love Tamara. As a professor, not so much. There's literally no examples in her lecture notes which means you'll need to rely heavily on SL worksheets and tutorials examples. At least, the content on the final exam was relatable to what she advised us to study. Honestly, you teach yourself the whole class but midterms aren't that hard
Lecture notes don't really help, basically had to learn the entire topic by myself. Textbook is required but questions don't relate to the exam at all. Final exam was much harder than midterms. Good luck if you have her.
She is a generally pretty good professor and I would not say her class is challenging compared to other first year courses. She was accessible outside of class and really does care for her students and their success. Make sure you do the clicker questions and study for the exams, lab is 20% of grade so it's not too bad.
Good Prof, makes lectures more fun. Interactive classes.
Tamara was so sweet and helpful! Lectures can be a lot of content but gives practice in class and is super helpful out of class if you need extra help. Active learning activities can seem annoying but helped me remember better. Midterms and final were all very fair and you get memory aids for both midterms and final. Lots of little grade boosters.
Midterms are solid and the exam was harder, but not terrible. I just didn't know how to study 1st sem of 2022W. You can do well in the class, just dont fall behind on the material. She puts on an act that shes a nice person, but she really isnt tbh. You will find this out asking (questions) to her a few times. Overall decent, to get a good grade in
Shes not as nice as she seems (freeman)
Best prof at ubc.
Tamara is a professor that has a hard time with her own course. She gets her own questions wrong an alarming number of times, which leads to class time being dedicated to her fixing her mistakes. About half the online quizzes had unsolvable questions when released. She made an effort to connect to students and was available outside of lectures.
She speeds through lectures and doesn't explain things well or do examples in class. I went to her office hours and she was very rude. Midterms were not bad, but the final was much more difficult. Biweekly quizzes were helpful for doing practice problems but I had to watch a lot of YouTube videos to do well in this class and understand the content.
Very content-heavy lectures. She says that she is accessible outside of class time, but was never present during office hours and changes meeting times continuously, even after a time has been discussed and set. She also doesn't admit when she has marked something wrong, so good luck fighting for marks on exams.
Tamara is not a good professor for a second-year o chem class. Girl has no idea what she's doing, she fully admits that o chem is not her strong suit and it shows in her lectures where she rushes through content, does not explain anything at all, and continuously gets things wrong in class confusing people.
She was nice enough in front of the class but when it came to one on one she was horrible. She ignored my emails, and doesn't respond to students requests for help. She will submit a "practice midterm" and then when you take your actual midterm not only will it be much harder, but it will cover topics not included in any of the reviews she gave out
Tamara was a pretty ok prof, her lectures were a bit boring and hard to follow sometimes, but was able to keep it entertaining from time to time. She does a lot of clickers for participation and had good analogies for concepts. The term tests were a ton more difficult than chem 121 and the review tests. Overall she was a pretty ok prof.
Dr. Freeman is a great prof who truly loves her job. I loved her skeleton notes and her term tests were extremely fair. That being said, I do wish that she taught some of the more complex concepts thru her skeleton notes and not thru the guided learning as it felt like we were doing work w/o actually learning the material. Overall, she's great!
Dr. Freeman was kind but a little up-tight and not approachable. She teaches in an understandable way, but the content is tricky. For a first-year chemistry teacher, she is satisfactory.
Tamara is an amazing prof for organic chem! Pay attention to her in class lectures and visit her during office hours and you'll be set. She makes lots of practice assignments which are extremely helpful. She also gives constructive feedback if you ask her. also responds to questions over emails!
The content was more difficult than CHEM213 but the structure of exams was better. Reading the textbook wasn't required but she has suggested problem sets (she posts the questions) that are very helpful for understanding content. She took forever to grade assignments and didn't do enough examples in class so office hours or watching videos helps
Tamara is probably one of the best professors at this school. You can tell she's very knowledgable on the subject and doesn't take bs from people. Her exams are very fair and usually only cover the very basics of the material covered in class. As long as you show up to lecture you should do great in her class
Tamara's class has its challenges, but with the right approach you can do well. Lecture content can be dense, but the exams are fair if you stay on top of the material. Unstuck AI was a lifesaver for my study prep.
Worst prof i've ever taken.
Her notes contain little information, I had to use the other sections. Be ready for an unreasonable amount of clicker questions, which require you to get the correct answer for it to count toward your grade (even though when asked about it in the beginning of semester she said she only looks for participation). She doesn't reply to her email too.
In lectures she moves on and writes very quick where people often had to ask her to go back to the previous slide. The iClicker is what I hated the most where you're graded on correct answer rather than participation which I never understood because iClicker questions are there for you to practice.
Dr Freeman is one of the best profs I've ever had, she is so kind and helpful. Although she may seem disorganized she truly cares and will work with you to make the class work for you. I struggled a lot with the content of ochem 2 but with her Friday activities and question periods which helped me do very well in her classes. Love her.
Slides are insensible, difficult to follow. I will say that she is engaging and the tests were pretty fair, but the clickers will completely mess you up. The course was honestly one of the most panic-inducing academic experiences I have had thus far.
Her lectures are always pretty interesting although disorganized. She move pretty fast so it can be hard to keep up when taking notes. She's very easy to talk to during class/office hours and seems pretty enthusiastic in class.
Truly just a professor that actually WANTS to teach! She is passionate and talented, and I could not recommend her courses more! Genuinely such a funny prof and has such a cheerful, encouraging disposition.
Self studied for most of this class, Tamara is chill no issues with her, the lectures are just not the most helpfull. She doesn't provide practice tests but SL does ( MAKE SURE TO DO THE SL WORKSHEETS, they are really helpfull). Also make sure to do the worksheets Tamara provides, they are hidden in canvas( alot of students dont do them).
The midterms are super easy.
Dr Freeman is someone who seems to genuinely enjoy her job. She is kind to students when they need help, and often finishes lectures early. Cheat sheets are allowed for midterms and finals, and an equation sheet. Overall, I thought she was a good professor.
