Of all my years taking English classes, Prof Madison has been my all time favorite. You can tell she has a strong passion for english and she is very inspirational to her students. She's fun; makes the class feel alive with some discussion topics. I DEFINITELY recommend taking her. No testquizzes, just 4 major essays. Will be taking her for 1102.
She is very human and is more of a friend than anything else. She'll make you think extensively to form solutions and she isn't afraid of making jokes or pointing you out as an individual. She will teach you how to break down the most intricate of literature in a humorous way. Be ready to express through essays. There is no "wrong way".
LOVED HER CLASS. I RECOMMEND EVERYONE TO TAKE HER!!!!
Shes a very good teacher and cares, but however her essay grades can be really harsh and also she only has one subject she teaches and thats black history month
She is funny and gives a dynamic class, but she is very sarcastic, sometimes not even in a good way. She is very strict. A tough grader, she will expect you to write like super professional essays. Her quizes are really dang HARD! Unless you read and memorize all those freaking pages.
Prof. Madison is a good professor and inspiring. Her lectures are fun and interesting, but her grading is super HARD. I worked really hard on my essays, but still I didn't get the grade that I want. I literally went to the writing center for everything. We had two quizzes and they were crazy Hard.
Best professor ever. Took her for Comp I & II because you learn so much. Yes, she is a hard grader ON ESSAYS aka mid-term and finals, but once you work out the kinks in Essay 1, then 2 & 3 should be much easier for you. Utilize the writing center! They will guarantee you at least a B from her! Participate and have fun, she's not that serious!
Mrs. Madison has been the best teacher i have had in college hands down!! She has an incredible sense of humor that makes her more approachable, she clearly explains what she is expecting and if you still don't understand she will gladly break it down for you. She's not a tough grader, just write like a college student and you will be fine!Take her
Prof. Madison was one of the greatest professors I have ever had. The class is based off 3 major essays and classwork, but she is always there to help you! Her lectures are engaging and almost always relate to the 3 essays. She can be blunt and very sarcastic at times, but that's honestly what made the class so entertaining. I really recommend her!
Loved her as a person. I will have to say, she will challenge you in every way. It can be an overwhelming class with the essay requirements, but you will learn the same content in this Comp I class as Comp II courses on campus.
Mrs. Madison can be tough sometimes but being in her class is so rewarding. Be ready to get involved and get messy. There are lots of class discussions so be prepared to bring interesting points of view to the table. What she wants is very specific, but shes also very clear about it, so pay attention and follow her guidelines and you will do well.
Professor Madison was honestly one of my favorite teachers I have ever had. She makes sure to go in depth and gives great advice and feedback on papers. Yes, she can be a tough grader, but that's because she puts you in a position to succeed. Three major papers. Great person and professor still talk to her whenever i see her around campus.
Prof. Madison teaches well and she lectures a lot about things that are real and raw. She grades harder than anyone I have ever met in my life. She takes points off for ridiculous things. She is a great professor teaching wise, but grading wise, no. I wish that I never took her.
Professor Madison is a great teacher, she knows her stuff. I don't think she is that tough on grading to be honest, maybe just a little but not that much. She does give a lot of homework and gives pop quizzes which can be tough but she is a great professor. I would not take her again for comp 2 because i would like to try someone new.
Very great professor. Her lectures are very relatable & VERY engaging. She is very clear what she wants in each of the essays. 3 major essays; 1 narrative, 1 research essay, and last is a compare & contrast. As long as you follow the requirements you're golden. There are about 2-3 quizzes that are based off of the reading, so make sure you read!!!!
Very hard grader!
She's pretty okay. Makes you participate, super picky tough grader. Picks at every little detail on essays. Peer reviews for every essay which sucks because sometimes one person says something bad but another one says something good. Very blunt, will call you out
she is an overall great professor, she pushes you to do your best and has very interesting lectures. Her grading can be viewed as hard but its college, suck it up. Not a moment I sat in class bored where she keeps an English class contemporary and engaging. Take her if you want to see your full potential as a writer, if you trust her.
Prof. Madison is one of the best professors I have ever taken. She brings out the writer in you by teaching literature in a different way. She teaches and gives you life lessons through the short stories/poems/plays/etc. You have to work hard to earn the A but it's not impossible. Read what she assigns, take notes, and you should do fine.
She gives three essays throughout the semester, one being harder then the last. Although she's a great person, she was one of the hardest graders I've had. I tried my hardest on every essay, however I still ended up with a bad grade.
She is very clear at talking about what she wants. She is quite intimidating at first but overall is an awesome professor. Two major essays and a group project are your main assignments. It feels like a college class.
She is a very good instructor! She tells you exactly how she wants things done and if you have any questions you are more than welcome to stay after class or even schedule a meeting with her! she gives very good feedback to help with the two major essays. You don't have any busy work because everything has a purpose! 1 group presentation and 1 solo
I love Prof. Madison with all my heart. She is the sweetest person you'll ever meet and she remembers your papers because she really does care for each and every single individual. She is a tough grader but if you put a lot of effort and read the rubric for the essay then you'll pass the class. She does give some busy work but it's manageable.
I struggled a lot in her class.. Most of the time my class mates and I would break our heads studying or writing a paper and she would still fail us. Test were mediocre. Essays!!! They are hard and count as 35% of your grade!
This teacher is insanely tough on grading and has no wiggle room she grades as if everyone in the class is a professional. She is very vague on her what she wants when you are doing the assignment/project but after you turn it in she grades it as if she had strict guidelines and u knew what she was looking for. Everything about the course was hard
Professor Madison's ENC 1101 class was very tough but it was worth it. She is passionate in her work. But don't get me wrong, you will have to work hard for a good grade, especially in her class. However, you will be a better writer by the end of the class. She brings out the best in her students and strives to bring out their full potential.
Professor Madison is viewed as a tough grader because she expects more from us than we are used to, but if you pay attention and follow her very clear guidelines and rubrics, it is not hard to get an A. If you are looking for a class that will make you a better person and better student, please take her courses. :)
SHE. IS. AWESOME. Professor Madison taught me a lot of new things, specially how to write properly in English. Also, she is so nice and is always trying to help her students. I'm so excited to have her as my teacher again next semester.
Professor Madison gives lengthy reading assignments, shows no mercy, and is a published writer herself so her standards are very high. You are graded on two papers both worth 35% of your grade, aside from other assignments that are typical of a high school environment. Attend class and dont give up. Dont recommend her as a first choice at all.
Professor Madison is not only one of the best teachers I have ever had, but she is by far the best college professor. You will not leave her class without feeling not only clear on what is expected of you, but enlightened by everything that you've learned. I learned so much and improved so much in my writing. Just know you will have to work hard!!!
I love this teacher so much. took her my freshman year for comp 1 and 2. I am a better and more confident writer because of her. She is definitely not an easy teacher but her class and style of teaching is so worth it. What you learn in this class, stays with you and has even helped me in my other classes that involve essays.
Professor Madison is one of the best teachers I had ever had. Her ability to pick certain stories that are meaningful and require you to critically think are the reason why I fell in love with literature. Her class is not easy but, her style of teaching makes the class really fun.
This won't be an easy A, but if you truly want to delve deep into critical thinking and analysis, I cannot recommend her enough. She is clearly passionate about literature, and her engagement with students during lectures makes her course so much more engaging! Trust me, The skills you'll learn in this course will serve you for years to come.
I was initially scared to take Prof. Madison's ENC1101 class because she is intimidating. Truth is, the class isn't easy and she does make you work for an A. She guides you in the right direction&teaches so much. I feel that I am a better writer because of her. She is brilliant&ensures that you will be a successful writer. I'm taking her ENC1102.
ENC 1101 with Professor TJ Madison was hard, but I learn so much. I became a much better writer now. This class isnt easy. and you have to be on top of your work, but it is worth it if you want to be a better writer.
Professor Maddison is honestly the best professor I have ever taken. Her class is not a easy A but if you come to class and put effort it is definitely not hard to pass. Her discussions are great and teach you so much about literature. She is there to help and give great feedback. Just be ready to do your fair share of work.
She is a tough grader, and sometimes was very rude to me in email. I believe her grading criteria is a bit harsh and her tone is off putting. I would stay clear from her unless you are up to a challenge. She doesn't provide the best feedback so it can be hard to know what to fix.
This class isn't an easy A. There are 2 major essays that are worth 35% your grade. Everything else is 10%. This class did help me to be more clear and specific when writing. You can definitely learn something from this class but you have to work hard. The feedback she gave wasn't really the best. She's also very specific with what she wants.
I am a student with a GPA of 4.0 and she assigns 2 essays worth two separate 35% of your grade. I turned in my first essay and got a D, because my first person and third person writing weren't in the right paragraphs, yet the rest of my writing was splendid (yes I did the essay early). I now have a C that destroyed my GPA. Don't take this class. :)
Do not take this professor as your first choice. She is a published writer so she is a very tough grader. You have 2 essays to turn in worth 35% of your grade, and her median is about a 50%, which brings your grade down by a lot. I wouldn't recommend this professor at all.
Best teacher at Valencia 100% Do you need to work hard? absolutely, but is it worth it? YES, YES, YES. As an international student, this class has helped me with all the rest of my classes when it comes to writing, specially since I struggle with English. In addition, Professor Madison is an amazing, caring human being! Her classes are always a YES
Prof. Madison is by far one of the best English Literature teachers I have ever had. She is very specific with her instructions and is always available for her students. In my class she did this weekly Wednesday zoom meetings where students who needs help or clarification could join and make sure they are on the right track with their assignments.
If you have a busy schedule and you need a teacher who will work with you I would not recommend her at all. She will not hesitate to fail you if you miss even one essay so if you are short on time I would highly recommend taking another teacher.
The class isn't difficult, but her grading is insane. If you look at the median scores for most assignments, most of the class is failing. This is an intro English course, but she expects professional-level work.
For an intro English class, she makes you work too hard for a good grade. It is impossible to get an A in the class, even if you try hard and put the work in. The essays are worth 30% of your grade which is crazy because if you fail an essay you fail the class. Very little feedback is given to pass the class and it's like she wants you to fail.
Grading is ridiculously harsh. 2 essays are worth 70% of your grade and the highest grade in the entire class was an 85%. With very few other assignments to help bring these grades up its incredibly difficult to keep an A or B in this class. Only 1 weekly assignment an others here and there which is cool and all but leaves little room for error.
this class requires you to already be somewhat of a good writer. she is a good teacher and the material is overall easy, but be prepared to write 2 major essays that are worth 70% of your grade. if you do not pass the essays you will FAIL the class. she cares for her students and does lots of office hours. she does lack somewhat of a filter though.
Don't get me wrong, professor Madison is a TOUGH grader, but she is very passionate about writing and literature. I very much enjoyed taking enc 1101 with her in fall, so I took her in spring for enc 1102 and I have always enjoyed her class. She does not give an absurd amount of work, but the work she gives is nothing you're going to find online.
Honestly terrible and late grader. You can do your best on a paper, but nothing is enough for her. Professor is never satisfied with the work. I turned in all my assignments and needed the course with a C-??? Choosing this professor will be a waste of time.
TAKE Her, she's an amazing professor, yes, her class is challenging but it's well worth it. I took her for enc1101 and I don't regret it.
very different experience from my past poetry class, entirely different dynamic but that was expected. ms. madison gives good feedback and she knows how to bring out the best in people. at the time i took her, she wasn't what i needed and that's okay! if you're sensitive or don't know how to take criticism well, i'd suggest a different professor.
Had brutal Grading with little to no feedback. It was so brutal having 70% of your grade coming from essays that were graded like it was professional writing. This is an intro to writing class, not new york times. I would not recommend this teacher online.
This was an Online course and my participation grade was low. You wont get anywhere speaking with her. There is no extra credit opportunities nor are their opportunities to bump your grade up. Instructions are extremely vague so you must read the teachers mind to ensure you are doing them correctly. No sympathy and very condescending.
She didn't get grades done till the last day of the semester. On the second essay she didn't give any feedback on our scores or gave one word comments. My grade went from a D to a C because I emailed about my concern. My 7 page essay was worth more than a C I was left no choice but to go appeal my final grade due to her messy schedule.DONT TAKE HER
This class is graded heavily by essays, there are two major essays worth 25% each. Try to keep a good grade on every single assignment since essays are very heavy. The essays are personal and you will not find answers online. Take GOOD notes! Review each module VERY closely, and ESPECIALLY HER CHECKLISTS!!! Follow these tips and you will be fine.
i took this class in fall 2023 and it was very hard for me because i dont speak english that well and this class was very heavy on essay grades. the essay were very strickt for the requirements and if u have a mistake on the essay it will be impacted on your grade. i did some zoom meeting with her and i was able to pass the class.
Two essays that are worth a huge chunk of your grade. Doesn't give any feedback on your essays or explain how to do better and assumes that everyone can write at a professional level. Somewhat rude with any responses to grading work and expects you to know the answers to everything in the course but asks you if you have any questions. Just don't.
She strictly enforces deadlines, giving a zero even if an assignment is just 2 minutes late. Imagine finishing your assignment, but your internet goes down right before. By the time you reconnect, it's late, and you're penalized. She doesn't consider that students juggle work and studies and refuses to make exceptions, no matter the reason.
not necessarily a tough grader but she won't just grade with no clear outcome. you have to carefully study her modules and take the time to come to class as you receive the most help from peer reviews and one on one time with her. two major essay, one personal and one more of an analytical. great professor, but the work needs to be put in.
She's forgiving of her own mistakes, her students'. She doesn't accept late assignments under any circumstances except life-threatening issues or the death of a loved one. Despite this, she posts assignments soon before they are due, and changes instructions on assignments before they are due. She's unforgiving and disrespectful with her feedback.
This class is meant to be an introduction to English, yet the professor expects students to write at a professional level & gives 2 essays that ruined my "Straight A Student" title due to unclear instructions. These two essays are worth most of your grade, with far too little instruction, feedback, and rigorous expectations. Incompetent professor.
I am so miserable due to this class, I have never disliked a professor as much as Tamara Madison. Take my word for it when I tell you: Do NOT choose her as your professor. She is disrespectful, unforgiving, and makes excuses for herself when she makes mistakes but grades her students ruthlessly. She failed me, not with a grade, but as a professor.
Please do not take this professor. She withholds important instructions until the last minute and even after assignments are due! She makes you write two papers and expects you to write at an advanced level even though this is an Introduction to English! She doesn't care if she's being unfair and often won't even listen to what you're telling her!
Ending this semester with a C as a previously straight A's student is not a coincidence. When this professor graded my essay, she gave me a low C. I messaged her my concerns, which she ignored. She told me to schedule a zoom meeting. I did, she said, & I quote, "To get a 5/5, I'm looking for students who go above & beyond the rubric." Ridiculous.
Professor Madison was definitely a tough professor, but she was pretty good. The main skill that you need in this class before taking it is to be a skilled writer, if not then your experience will be hard. There are two major essays, but they're easy if you study her modules. I would recommend accessing her class often and reading her announcements
As soon as I missed an assignment this class only got worse for me; she doesn't accept late grades under any circumstances, excluding family or physical emergencies, which is ridiculous. My grade would not go back up. She never gave full points on anything even though I followed all the instructions and reviewed assignments with her beforehand.
You have 2 essays that are worth 30% of your grade in an INTRO to English class, and after researching, I found that NOBODY in my class got full points. This Professor almost wants you to fail. She doesn't try to work with you, grades ruthlessly, and is not good at giving proper instructions or explanations. You do not want to take this Professor.
Her work isn't difficult, but doing well seems impossible when instructions are SO unclear. She changed important parts of instructions multiple times AFTER assignments were due. Ex.Academic Refreshers: she makes you enroll in the course & put my final grade as an 80% even though I got an 88%?? And 2 major essays with questionable grading methods.
I am utterly confused as to how she is a Professor. At best, her instruction is high-school level. I have been pained this semester due to my incompetent Professor. Not only does she make no effort to be respectful, but she is a ruthless grader and gives mediocre busy work. This class was so incredibly unfulfilling, I urge you all to stay away.
This class was good in the beginning, however, I started to have problems with the teacher when she decided to take points off major assignments and didn't say why. I messaged her this and she didn't even read my message. She told me to schedule a zoom meeting!? I did, and she kept talking over me, and didn't even answer my questions at all.
She expects you to write two essays with UNCLEAR instruction worth 30% of your grade, and has no basic understanding of how busy students are. She doesn't care about the success of her students, she treats grades like ticking a box, not as a chance to give feedback on how the student can improve. She goes back on her word a lot. Do not take her.
The curriculum isn't difficult, but the teacher makes it difficult with UNCLEAR grading criteria, last minute changes to assignments, & communication with students. Overall, she was VERY rude to me. She made MANY mistakes & looked past them, but when students felt the effects of HER mistakes & unclear instructions, she graded without consideration.
Tool both ENC1101-1102 through her and she was amazing. Read the assignments carefully and listen to what she has to say and youll pass easily. The essays are tough but not hard I passed all of them with at least a B. She is very thorough with what she discusses and will always help you. I would highly recommend her as a prof.
What I could simply describe as this wench of a professor goes beyond simply a “horrible grader" or a "difficult professor." This professor's behavior is unprofessional, abusive, and potentially even bordering on harassment. For instance, she screamed at me like a banshee, leaving me crying and having a panic attack during a Zoom meeting.
This professor is incredibly unprofessional. She has no respect for her students and if she puts in any effort, it's effort to be disrespectful. She gives unclear criteria on assignments and often changes them, and makes so many excuses for her incompetence, but is a ruthless grader who shows no empathy toward her students. Stay away.
This professor is incredibly disrespectful. She was incredibly disrespectful to me the entire semester, I cannot voice how miserable I am to have taken this class and have had her as a professor. Her class isn't difficult, but she does not give clear instructions on assignments. She also can't do her job: advised me to edit my grammar incorrectly.
This professor's unprofessional demeanor and disrespect towards her students are clearly evident in the way she communicates and treats her pupils. She is incredibly inconsistent, disrespectful, gives very unclear criteria, and has even given me grammatically incorrect editing suggestions. It seems that she does not care if her students succeed.
This professor has lost the respect of myself and many others who have taken her due to her blatant disrespectful treatment of students. She does not make any effort to respect her students, and her class isn't academically challenging. The work was cut out, but the instruction was incredibly unclear due to her changing it constantly. Horrible.
I am an AP student with a high weighted GPA, or I was. This class destroyed my GPA. Is it a coincidence that I have straight A's in every single other class besides this one? Do not take it, she does not care about your success, does not own up to the many mistakes that she makes, and gives incredibly unclear instructions. Disrespectful teacher.
I'm baffled, truly, by the level of disrespect for which she treats her students. I've never met such a disrespectful professor, and I mean it with all my heart when I tell you that she does not care for the success of her students. If you're interested in taking her, ask yourself if you'd like a professor that doesn't care for your success. Don't.
She giving me stressed
I'd consider my grade a miracle as she is so unbelievably strict with grading. 2 main essays due over the semester, ALWAYS pay attention or she WILL single you out in the middle of class. Does not accept late work whatsoever it doesn't matter the situation EVEN if you're feeling ill. If you consider yourself a quiet person DONT take this class
Wait I kind of loved her. I was scared seeing the reviews but she turned out to be super sweet and she was patient about English not being my first language. You need to put a lot of effort and time in the essays (25% of the grade each) and she can give strict feedback but it's all really useful and a very good introduction to college type essays.
DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR! she was always extremely rude when emailing, she marked my final essay as AI when I did not use Ai at all, I tried to email her and clear it up even provide proof and she denied a meeting with me, she does not care for your life problems as well. Even if you have proof she will not care. no late work is accepted.
Honestly do not take her class. Even if it is your only option, just wait for next semester. Nothing was learned taking this class, she's very unorganized and unresponsive to emails. I don't think she realizes this is an intro class. She gives you 3 tries on assignments but takes 2 weeks to grade so you are not given an opportunity to retake.
