Great sense of humor and easy on the eyes. Asks for you opinion during class. She definitely knows her subject and is always helpful. Does not push an agenda and HATES cell phones. Challenging but not overwhelming work load to manage. The best thing about her is that she is easy to approach and fair.
Professor Smith was very helpful and really cares that you under stand history and its impact on society.Do the papers EVERY WEEK.TAKE LECTURE NOTES!!!!All of her mid term and final questions are based on her lectures not the book.the class is lots of fun and I learned tons.GREAT TEACHER!!!!!
Tami is a great teacher .she is super helpful and allows the class to have an opinion. class room debates are awesome.great great experience.
Tamara let me join her extremely full class 2 weeks into the semester starting when no one else would. She was extremely careing and ALWAYS HELPFUL.I took her online class and i greatly recommend it. No in class meetings, and work is expected to be done every week but she grades very fair!
Mrs. Smith is a great teacher. I took her for HIST 103/104. She teaches to LEARN, not to easy pass, so be prepared to WORK. If you want an easy class, don't take her. If you want a class where you will learn a LOT, take her. Take notes, read, and you will pass. Lets you know whats gonna be on the tests, very clear, VERY helpful. JUST DO THE WORK!
Tami is the reason I am a history major! her class is hard but lots of fun .Take notes and ask question and you will do fine.LOTS of writing so make sure you are prepared for it.Take both her classes 103 and 104 and you will have gone from the dawn of time to 9/11.Take the classes they will challenge and engage you in the history of man!!
Awesome teacher. Her lectures were very insightful. The books we read were great. She promotes critical thinking and debate. Very open-minded. I loved this online class. A TON of reading, but if you like history it's great. Tests you could take as many times w/no time limit!
A ridiculous amount of homework for a history class. Beside that the exams were easy. Her standard for papers in her class is similar to an English professor.
Booring, voice is soo irritating. thinks she is smart, and maybe she is but she can't teach. class sucked. really disappointing because i really like history
Prof Smith knows history but she is also very demanding in her assignments! I wouldn't take her classes EVER again. She's never satisfied. I understand that she tries to get us to think outside of the box, but she is just to much. It seems like if you don't answer a question the way she would, she marks off points. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!
online course, great knowledge, fair, nice instructor,no bias, educated, cares about students and not her ego, :)....loved it
Amazing class. Many papers to write, but you will leave a better writer. She is interesting and has great in sight. A class you cannot fall behind in. I would love to take the follow up class to this!
One of the worst teachers I have ever had. Huge ego. Thinks she's a college professor but acts more like a middle school teacher getting angry about childish things that she shouldn?t care about. It?s more of an English class so if you like to write this is the English/history class for you.
Mrs. Smith is awesome. She helped me before class all the time. You have to do all the work from day one or you will fall behind. She is funny and does not like slackers!!!!
Professor Smith is really nice and approachable. I took her online History 103 class and was very easy. Her online lecture notes are extremely helpful when it comes to tests. I recommend her to take her. Easy class!
This professor has control issues. She throws people out of class for not reading every little thing she assigns. She is making us write a plea for our participation grade. The reading is horrendous. Nearly 150 pages in a week sometimes. Not easy read material. She gives excellent lectures. She's fun in class. Too controlling. Never again.
BE WARNED!! DB AND QUIZZES ALMOST EVERY WEEK, TOUGH GRADER, 2 ESSAYS DUE NEAR THE END, PLUS ANOTHER BIG ESSAY DUE FOR FINAL! ONLY TAKE IF YOU HAVE 15HRS A WEEK DEDICATED TO THIS CLASS!!
Mrs. Smith is an amazing teacher - she's strict but it's because she wants us to put effort and do well. Her lectures are incredibly helpful to understand the reading. Just like any class you need to work at it. I was definitely challenged and worked hard on doing my best and I got an A. She's very fair.
its weird, because she is a hard teacher. BUT if you do everything she says. or atleast put effort into trying to get a good grade youll receive one, i thought i was sure to fail. but in the end i got a B.
Prof. Smith is a great teacher. Her class challenges people to actually think about our history and our future. She requires that students actually work and the workload is not easy but it is manageable. I truly enjoyed this class, but be prepare to read a lot.
I loved her class! It was always worth going. Warning to the wise KEEP UP WITH THE READING! If you don't this class will be hard to pass. Had to drop because of the reading but I am going to take it again with Professor Smith.
She says you have to do all the reading but she does not lecture on the reading material at all! So pretty much I read ALL the assigned reading for nothing and she doesn't test on the reading material either. She gives study guides but nothing that is on the study guide is on the exam, useless.
She is the type of professor that you would like to have a coffee with and talk about how important history is. Very inspiring! She tells the WHOLE story and does not forget points of view from Women, Native Americans, and African Americans. Very interesting class. She is very approachable. If you are lazy, don't take this class. Challenging!
Prof Smith is very strict! But as long as you attend class and do the work you should not have a problem! Study and attending her lectures are the keys to passing her class and staying on her good side! I would take her again.
Mrs Smith is a nice professor, attendance are mandatory. Home work; There is a lot of reading from two books and essays for assignments. For tests and final there are essay too.I say about 15 hours a week for her class. If you need to take History 111/112, take it a lone.
I had Professor Smith for California History & she was great! She's strict about some things (attendance is mandatory, no late work is accepted, etc), but is knowledgeable, passionate about history, & always provides clear info in lectures and Power Point notes. She's fair & keeps things very interesting. Great class if you're willing to work hard!
Professor Smith really does enjoy teaching, and was readily available to answer questions and provide assistance. It was a pleasure to be in her class. I highly recommend her.
She is an awesome teacher. I took her for summer school and was very worried I would not be able to keep up. Lots of reading out of two books, so if you dont like to read, you will be in trouble. Her lectures are very good, lectures from all points of view. Lots writing and finals are essay exams. I would take her again and would recommend.
I REALLY enjoyed this class. Would recommend it to anyone interested in learning about feminism and history of women. Class expects a LOT of reading and writing. Be prepared to study for long periods at a time.
if you want history thru a feminist lens, this is your teacher. sometimes tailors "facts" to fit her intended narrative. lectures are at times disjointed. still, a nice person who will bend over backwards to help you. if you want objective, fact-based history, take yamanaka.
A very tough course!!! YOU MUST DO THE READING!!! SHE IS A VERY STIFF GRADER!! If I have to take this class again, it will NOT BE WITH HER!!! I understand your passion, but not everyone is a history BUFF!! You must meet people where they are sometimes. She had this as a major of study, I took it for a requirement. HAVE SYMPATHY FOR US PLEASE!
Professor Smith is clear and concise grades well and gives feedback. If you have any questions, she does her best to reply soon. D.B's, quizzes, blogs are part of this class. Do the reading and you'll have a fairly good understanding of the concepts. I only spend two-three days on this classweek with 1-3 hours at the most. :)
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. SHE GIVES THREE DEADLINES A WEEK. NO TIME TO RETAIN THE INFORMATION . I GOT A'S AND B'S ON EVERYTHING BUT IM GOING TO FAIL BECAUSE OF HER POINT SCALE. LONG, BORING CHAPTERS YOU HAVE TO READ. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS.
Prof. Smith is one of my favorite teachers at MSJC. She tough but she works with you. Don't come with lame excuses. Many opportunities for Rxtra Credit. READ! READ! READ!
There is a lot of reading and papers every week but you will learn a lot! Professor Smith's lecture is intriguing, fun and inspiring. Class discussions were current, relevant and exciting. If you don't want to invest in a lot of time in this subject, she is not the Professor for you. But if you can manage the workload, you will enjoy her class.
Weekly discussions, lectures and blogs for her online class. Feedback and interaction with students is great and guides you in the right direction if you are off topic. Difficult quizzes weekly and lectures are harder to comprehend (in my experience). Overall B+
While she does make you read a lot, she gives amazing lectures and there are a lot of class discussions that are very eye opening. She knows what she is talking about and you will definitely learn a lot.
prof smith is a great lady, i took her for hist 111 and 112. everything is straight forward and the exam questions are given before the exam. really great class and awesome lectures.
Great Professor. I took her for two classes (in honors) this past semester , and it was alot of hard work but it was worth it. If you're willing to give it your all and be pushed to succeed, than this it the professor for you. There is alot of reading , a few tests, papers, a midterm, and a final so be prepared to work you booty off!
She is a great teacher! Passionate about history and gives great lectures. If you pay attention to the lectures you'll do fine for the test. Take advantage of all the extra credit it helps a lot and she gives a lot of opportunities such as watching a movie showing at the college. She is very helpful and fast email replyer.
I had Professor Smith for CA History (HIST-120). She's knowledgeable & passionate about the subject & her enthusiasm kept things interesting. This is no easy A. She assigned several lengthy papers & in-class quizzes were usually short essays. She absolutely will not accept late work so don't even try! She's always there if you need her!
I took Mrs. Tami Smith online American history class, I love, Love her class. There are 3 books required for this class. Weekly are a test you can take 2 times no timer and weekly discussion board, reply back to 3 students, 3 essay for the class. I love the subjects and they are easy to write about.
She has a big bark, but is actually a nice teacher. She expects you to take notes the entire class, but then you can use them on quizzes. I enjoyed her class, but don't feel like I retained too much because there are so many facts and people to remember. I liked the class overall, but had a lot of reading and writing!
She was an OK teacher, kind of rude over email. Was quick at responding towards the beginning of the semester but got worse towards the end. Quizzes and discussions are frequent/every week. 3 essays-- she grades these VERY hard. Very simple class-- reading, writing, and time are necessary in order to pass.
Currently taking History 112 in her class, definitely reading is crazy, if you don't keep up you'll get behind quick, and she doesn't tolerate too much, if you aren't taking notes be prepared for her to tell you about it, her tests are definitely hard, the participation assignment group evaluations are probably the easiest part of the class
She's difficult af! Her tests make you want to rip your hair out because they're essays not just multiple choice. BUT she does give you the test ahead of time but doesn't tell you which essay questions will be on it. Also, she's kinda rude and Basically there to talk and make her "money".
She was a good professor online, but doesn't accept any late work. I had several medical problems over the time of the course and she wasn't lenient at all. You MUST do all assignments to pass. I tok the accelerated course so any assignment that was missing really affected my grade. She responds quickly to emails and her assignments are clear.
Mrs. Smith is an amazing lecturer, you can really see & hear the passion in her voice when she talks about each and every one of her lectures. Her class is very hard and at one point makes you want to drop the class, but don't. Do all your work. Study hard, especially for the written midterm and final. If she sees you tried, surely you'll pass.
Don't take this class unless you like writing essays! Must be a Professor in English not in History!
Prof Smith gives amazing lectures. At first I was intimidated by her but once you get to know her she is not that bad. She requires you to read a lot but I never read and still managed to receive an A in her class. She is very specific in what she wants so make sure to follow her guidelines she also offers a lot of extra credit take advantage of it
I took her History112 and it really opens your eyes to so much. This teacher is passionate about what she teaches and she transmits that passion to her students. Her essays are short and straight forward. She is a very fair grader and as long as you keep in touch and show interest, she will appreciate that. Loved her class and I don't like history!
Her grading criteria is tough. did all my paper on time and I was getting As. suddenly after the midterm, which is really hard, she started to give me low grade on every paper. At the end of the semester I talked to her about my grade and she fixe it. She cares about those students that put the effort in it. Got a B after showing concern of my grad
I was told to take this professor for history because she is life changing. I didn't get that from her at all. She always appears to be in a bad mood. She's kicked multiple people out of of class during the course of the semester. You need to pay attention and attend class. You need to do the work. I was failing but got an A on the final- finalB.
Is passionate about what she teaches when it comes to Women's history. Do NOT show up late, take notes, and STUDY. Respect her and her expectations and you'll pass. If you are not interested in the history of women, don't even bother. Learned a lot of new things but would not take again. Tried my best but didn't get the grade I hope for.
For a 3-credit (online) class, be prepared to spend 12+ hours JUST on reading. Some weeks cover two chapters which is double the work within the same time constraints.
So, my girlfriend took her class a year ago and really recommended me to take her stating it was an easy class and that prof smith was a nice teacher. However, I noticed that immediately going into the class, I was already having difficulties and she was very rude in a lot of her comments. My girlfriend even agreed and stated she had changed.
Fantastic lectures and discussions! The book we read was great. Not an easy A but she gives every question before exams. If you work, then you do well.
For the most part, her class is relatively easy. You just need to keep up with the weekly readings, which is about 25-50 pages depending on the chapter. However, her midterm and final exam are more on the difficult side, which can prevent some people from getting an A. Other than that, a B is easy to get!
She gives really great lectures! Take A LOT of notes and study them frequently! Her tests and essays are straightforward. She is the best professor I've had. She's very encouraging and helpful. She has high expectations of her students and doesn't tolerate rudeness or laziness. I've taken her for multiple courses and have loved every one of them!
Online classes typically have a ton of reading and this class was no different. However, the class discussions were really interesting and the best discussions I've seen in an online class. Tami is really accessible and has clear expectations for each assignment. I really enjoyed taking this class!
TONS of work. Several hours of reading/videos every week, and if you don't take notes, you will bomb the four timed exams and the final. Even then, questions are either too specific or too vague, and your notes might not cover them. The professor herself is motivated and willing to help, but the course is just far too densely packed for 3 units.
Loved Professor Smith! Her lectures and discussions were fantastic and not dead, white guy stuff. You have to take notes and lots of notes to pass her exams. There arent too many assignments so dont blow anything off. You get what you put in with this class.
Took Tami my last semester before transferring as a history major. Hands down, she was better than anyone else I took. She is demanding but inspiring and makes you think about history in new ways. Wish I found her two years ago.
Professor Smith is clearly dedicated to being the best educator she can be. You get daily emails on what is due, and what you should be working with. This was a 6 week summer course, the workload is intense, however it's manageable. I must say though, follow her directions clearly. Tough grader, and OVERCITE everything. Better safe than sorry.
Great teacher, you can tell she cares about her students and wants them to actually retain what they are learning. She is very careful about sharing her own political views, and she likes to play devils advocate to show us different perspectives of history and politics which was my favorite part. Easy class? No way. Did I actually learn? YES!
If you work and take other classes, good luck on all her essays and reading her books. Her grading is unclear. I wrote out answers on a quiz and was marked wrong for things I wrote exactly as she did. I was pretty sure I was one of the few who actually read her books and wasn't doing well. Also she encourages people to drop. Choose any other prof.
Smith rocks! Took her online but we spoke on the phone all the time. Quick emails responses. Do not skip assignments or lectures. She regrades your research project and adds points if you fix it. Taking her again for 112.
She's knowledgeable about the subject and wants her student to be as well
She's always willing to help her students. She expects student participation but does not discourage other points of view
She's awesome. I don't know what these others are complaining about
Wants students to succeed. Provides plenty of support.
She even had a university student interacting at points within the class. So much added benefits to taking her class.
Quick emails responses. Do not skip assignments or lectures. She regrades your research project and adds points if you fix it.
Just don't take this class, it's not worth the effort. Class is mandatory because all assignments are turned in in person. I wrote 11 essays in this class, and the grading criteria is not clear. Lectures are opinioned based, just full of her own thoughts, not actually from a book.
This class is easy if you show up and turn in assignments. She took my work late when I was called into work and regraded parts of the research project for more points. The test were hard but she gives you the answers. Take notes and study.
Im currently taking Ms. Smiths 6 week online course. Its definitely lecture heavy and you have to read them to really hit the nail in discussions and essay exams, but Ms. Smith is very easy to communicate with and shes always straight to the point. Shes also passionate about the subject shes teaching, which makes learning a bit less boring.
Please dont take her class, she expects everything to be perfect yet she doesnt explain things right, doesnt give you enough time to turn in things. Takes forever to reply and grade. Her comments are very rude, homework is very heavy. Throughout all my professors she has been the most difficult, very awful, please dont take her.
Terrible teacher and she is so rude with her replies do not take her class
Tamara Smith is a teacher with very strong and unpopular opinions. Her lectures are boring, long, and nonfactual. She rarely refers to a textbook and her chapter tests do not have clear grading criteria. There are better history teachers out there, don't choose this one. Tamara, it is time to retire.
STRAIGHT UP BAD VIBES. A lot of work for an online class. Made us watch lots of documentaries and she is a tough grader. Puts her political and personal views into the class and lecture and you have to agree with them or you lose points on the assignment. Not the worst professor I have ever had but I would rather have taken someone else.
I felt like I printed out massive amounts of her lectures/readings. The last project and the paper was tricky because you can only find your sources from the online library JSTOR and not any others. Way too much work for an online history course. My brother took "professor bowtie" at Palomar Community College and learned way more than me.
Pretty easy class but you must submit work every week. Online discussions were very good and quizzes are open book. The exams are tougher so keep notes on her lectures. Smith answered all my emails and took work late.
Smith assigns plenty of work but if you keep working each week you will be fine. She has high standards and will push you to be better than you are in your writing and thinking. I really liked the discussions that were connected to modern politics and events. Wish she recorded all of her lectures because they were goodand the texbook is free.
Professor Tami is a great teacher. Quizzes come from your book and exams are from lectures so take notes. You will write in the discussions that are pretty issue and make you think differently about history or from a new perspective. She answered all my emails and met with me one on one. The work is doable but every week.
All in all I believe with the pandemic that occurred she handled the situation moderately. However, when it comes to work description she really lacks an explanation. And she will mark you down points if you miss interpreted what she was asking you to do. I recommend making Friends in the class so its easier to make discussions on the work load.
She is super helpful if you have any questions, you can schedule to have a zoom meeting. She does have a lot of lecture notes and you will need to copy because she tests you heavily from those notes. She will want you to use the textbook as well and give you reading quizzes every week.
Good if you're an independent learner + teach yourself. Didn't give clear rubrics, examples, instructions, or feed back. LOTS of reading. Doesn't record lectures so you have to go through her typed ramblings for weekly mandatory note checks. Weekly quiz + discussion post. Nice enough to have office hours, and will answer your questions, though.
Professor Smith is super sweet. She answered all my questions and let me turn In sone assignments late and others for better grades. Read everything because it is online.
Amazing all around. Her lectures are fantastic & she gets you excited to learn. I wish I could take every single class I need with her. Do the work, respect her time, participate, & ask questions. She is one of the most understanding professors but dont take advantage of her. Ive taken several courses with her & enjoyed every one.
Professor Smith is amazing she gives great feedback on all your work. Yes you do have to go to class because there are a lot of notes to take, but if you get good notes you can use them on quizzes. You will need your text books for sure. She loves to teach and it shows while shes teaching. I took her class in the spring 2019.
Smith is everything wrong with higher education. She is a pleasant enough person, but she has a radical ideology which she pretends does not infect every aspect of her teaching. She is the most incompetent writer I have ever encountered. I would have been embarrassed to make the same mistakes in 8th grade. Truly one of the worst profs I've had.
Tamara Smith should not be a professor at any college she's so disrespectful. I had mandatory foster care visits where I have to drive foster children that I'm taking care of from Temecula to LA. She refused to give me extra time and to adjust to my DSPS arrangements. If you speak a different point of view where she doesn't agree with, you fail.
Worst Professor in the history of Professors. She should not be a teacher. She is not clear of what she wants and she likes to pick apart everything that you do. Do not take her class ever!
I am taking this course now and agree this professor is knowledgeable and available all the time. She makes you think and wants you to understand history from many perspectives. Discussions that connected into current events and politics were great but the free textbook boring. More Takaki, Smith!
Knowledgeable-Yes. Easy-okay. Kind-Definitely. I will take her again and hopefully on campus. Loved her lectures and the topics.
Worst class I ever took. The professor is really interested and has a wide knowledge in the subject and expects you to be the same, does not realize that some students take this class because it is required and not because they are interested. Very tough grader and does not sympathize.
Great class and great professor.
This class was absolutely awful! She doesn't respond to emails and will only help one student at a time on zoom. she acts like she's a genius and expects you to be the same. I wrote many papers will extreme detail and she gave me a 60% on it. Also out of almost 3 years at msjc I never had to use Chicago style and its mandatory. I would not reccomen
Tami rocks the boat. She makes you talk about things that made some students uncomfortable. All the small assignments are easy so don't skip them. She is tough on the exams but gives the answers.
Smith is brilliant, caring, and will help you be successful in the class. Don't skip the exam study sessions because she helps you write and organize the essays. These saved me. Be sure to keep lecture notes because the essays are from the lectures. Prepare to work and read but it can be managed. Free textbook too.
Prof Smith's lectures are great. Enjoyed the ones on WWI and WWII. She provides extra credit and several opportunities to keep your grade up. She is very helpful. You just need to reach out to her to ask for help. Read her syllabus and you should be alright as long as you follow it. No surprises.
She is the worst professor that I have so far. Unreasonable grading rubric system and always use the class to influence students' perspective. If she doesn't like your views, she will give you a very low and disrespectful grade. DON'T TAKE HER CLASS!
Loved this professor and class. Lectures were funny and the discussions my favorite part of class. Tami was generous with grading and due dates. Will take her again.
Tami was very understanding and supportive. There is reading and work each week but most is pretty easy. Keep good notes for the essay exams. I enjoyed learning about women for the first time. Dont skip anything and a B should be pretty easy.
Professor Smith provided no feedback on any assignments other than the rubric scores. No feedback was ever personalized to improve future assignments. Didnt grade many big assignments until the course was completed so you never know where your grade truly stands. Would not take her again. Sad the experience wasnt better. Lots of essays.
Honestly if your reading this I hope you dont take this class, I am a straight A student and am about to be in my last semester. I took professor Tamis course and I have never had this bad of a professor before. First C I have ever gotten. All I can say is take the best notes you can on lectures! She is a tough grader and uses Chicago style.
There are many essay tests and her grading is very tough. I wish I would have looked this professor up before taking this class. This class was really, really difficult and plan on watching a lot of lectures, videos, and reading 3 to 4 chapters a week in the textbook. The DB were extremely difficult and ridiculously lengthy.
A very very tough grader.
This class is amazing for those who really love history! It's a good thing I found this period of time interesting, because otherwise I'd have never made it. Also, if you choose this class for online anytime, the lecture materials and chapter readings under modules are mandatory and will show up in tests! Beware!
to this day this is the hardest class ive taken in my life. the averages on the tests were below a C every time, to which she blamed US for, and compared our grades to the other classes. she doesnt realize that people take the class because they have to, not because they're interested. her lectures are also very long, dull, and biased. DO NOT TAKE!
She's the WORST history teacher you can ever get, so inconsiderate, tough grader, no extra credit, barely emails back and so harsh on talking to students. Assignments were so confusing and lengthy, she will not explain anything. It says no text book, but at your finals you have to buy one which is so misleading, PLEASE DO NOT TAKE HER!
She's awesome and very direct! Smith expects alot from students and this is definitely a college class. Showing up and take notes in class if you want to pass the exams. The research project was pretty easy. Just read her feedback and you can resubmit parts of it for more points.
I would not suggest taking this course as the professor uses it purely to pass her political agenda by assigning discussion about your opinion and grading you down only due to your political belief as well as assigning readings that do not pertain to the topic at all and are just used to push her political agenda.
The format is all lecture after lecture. Discussion is not encouraged, and you cannot give her criticisms or question her inconsistencies. It would be more accurate to call her class something like, "Why All White People are Evil." This is a social justice class, not a History class.
Awful teacher with unclear grading methods, and does not care about your personal issues and yet will cancel class for her own. She has an agenda that she pushes in all of her lectures (which is all this class is lecture after lecture). She's a hack and shouldn't be teaching anyone. Not even the senile or children. Someone fire this woman.
Worst teacher ever.
I had trouble finishing this course due to personal issues but Professor Smith was really sweet and very supportive. She is a brilliant lecturer and makes history very relevant. Just take notes and complete the easy activities.
Professor Smith is hilarious and very passionate about history. The workload was pretty easy with some busy work because most students never showed up. Exam questions were straight from the lectures and readings and she gives you a few weeks to write them. She always emailed me back and met with me often after class.
Easy A for those that show up and take notes!! All exams are done at home and she lets you resubmit your research project multiple times to get a better grade. It was nice to learn about topics most high school teachers are afraid to touch. For the first time, I actually read the textbook because it was not the usual stuff. Great class!
Professor Smith is not only kind but genuinely cares for her students. If you work with her, then she pushes you to the end to finish. Learned more about writing essays in this class than English 101 because she met with me and answered emails. Do not skip exam review sessions. She outlines the essays with you and helps you design the thesis.
Time consuming but worth it. I really appreciated her dedication and the ways she connected things to current events. I took two classes with her at the same time and can't say enough good things about her.
Tami is one of the best professors I've had at MSJC. I dreaded this GE requirement and ended up enjoying the reading and lectures. I highly recommend this class with Smith.
Absolutely loved this class and professor.
WORST professor I've ever experienced during my time at MSJC. Finishing up my AS req. with this class & I regret choosing "Tami". Her expectations & class assignments are unrealistic! The workload is overwhelming. AVOID THIS PROF & HER CLASSES!!!! Not worth the headache you'll get from trying to keep up, unless you love history with a passion
Ms. Smith was the most confusing teacher I have ever had. She has unclear grading criteria, she has so much bias in her homework and viewpoints, she grades you down for the smallest things that weren't even clear in the first place, and she has the rudest comments. I have never taken a worse professor before, do yourself a favor and don't take her.
Professor Smith does NOT have a clear grading criteria- when I asked her to provide a rubric for the essays because I lost many marks but had no idea where, she flat out refused. Whenever I approached her about questions regarding assignments or about personal matters, she always talked in a condescending manner. I would recommend avoiding her tbh.
Smith is very sweet. There is plenty of reading but welcome to college. My best advice is to take notes. All the answers are in her lectures.
You will be wasting your time if you take a class with this professor! She never gave feedback on assignments when I didn't receive the full points so I never knew what I was doing wrong. Way too much reading is assigned and the discussion posts are so lengthy. Horrible professor... horrible class! AVOID AVOID AVOID
Do not take unless you WANT to become a feminist historian and sit through endless hours of repetitive and contradictory lecture material. WORST lecturer I've ever seen. Most obstinate and unclear grading I've ever seen. Definitely not worth the effort required to receive an A in "Tami's" class.
Smith is a real professor. If you cannot pass this class, you are not ready for a university. There is reading, writing, and deadlines but none of the work is difficult if you read and take notes on her lectures.
and notes, just before the final exam, and made us read two thick books before the exam. The quizzes were from the chapters which were not added in the study guide. No feedback on the assignment just grading before the result. She is not helpful and good at giving fail grades although my GPA of 4.0, and most of the time I got an A.
Professor Smith is a sweetie and very patient. There is plenty of reading but focus on lecture notes and the project. Just do what she asks if you CD anddd C an easy A.
Loved this class and professor. You have to read but the grading was easy and the projects, discussions really fun. She is a bit eccentric but definitely fun.
The amount of reading is absolutely absurd. Her class is extremely lecture-heavy and includes MANY lengthy videos. If you plan on taking other courses or working, good luck. Not to mention this is the only professor I've ever encountered that REMOVES her modules when the week is over. I wish RMP let me type more. I love studying but NO.
This class was definitely time consuming, I took it in a quarter system which meant I had more work than usual for her class. It was challenging, but I liked challenging myself, I spent at least five hours a day just from note taking and assignments. If you have a light load then you should take this class as it will force you to actually try.
Smith has very few assignments and only students that miss class have a hard time passing. We mapped every answer to our exam. Show up. Take notes. Easy class.
Best class I took this semester. Great lectures and generous grades. She was very nice to the slackers.
One of the worst history classes I've taken. The class is not fun or creative in any way. It's just lectures and notes and maybe a discussion board. The lectures are long but not interesting at all which makes it even worse because it feels so much longer. It's not a super difficult class just very very boring and bland.
Smith is very kind and her class is easy to follow and finish.
Loved this class and professor. Show up and take notes. Exams are take hone and straight from her lectures.
Kind professor.
This professor is SUPER controlling and she doesn't release the online work in a timely manner. It is almost noon on Monday and the work for the week still hasn't been released. There is a minimum of 9 hours a week of reading and another 6+ of video lectures. Terrible teacher, with an agenda. Would not recommend!
Very kind. She made an 8 week class tolerable and seemed to cut down sone work. Great feedback and books.
Best prof. in department, hands down. She treats you like an actual college student and not your nursemaid. Funny. Sarcastic. Smart. Kind. Models how history is evidence-based and an interpretation. Would love to see her debate a few politicians. She would shred them.
Warning: The amount of time and dedication for this 8-week course is way too much and too strict. If you have other classes that require lots of time, I would avoid this teacher. Modules are only given for that specific week which are closed the week after so anything missing is MISSING, lecture and note heavy, and exams/essays are points heavy.
Wish I found this professor before my last semester. She was savy, wise, and more than kind.
I really enjoyed this class and professor. Straightforward and creed five. You have to read but that is the most demanding part. She works with you.
I enjoyed Mrs. Smith a lot as my professor. She had a great sense of humor and showed much kindness.
I liked this class and professor. Plenty of reading but I learned a lot. Not easy, but not hard.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS!!!!!!
This class is easy. Read and watch lectures. Her exams are straight from the lectures and books. Some fun research too.
This class was fairly fine at the beginning of the course, I was doing well and remained in the constant high 80s. But, the last exams consisting of a multitude of essays were hard to balance due to the limited time. The workload was a lot, especially for people taking multiple classes.
She was rude and very vague in emails, sometimes she didn't even respond. Very hard on your writing skills, including guidelines that were never mentioned then grades you wrong. When she answers your emails, she answers you in a riddle. Heavy reading, text book online, and 2 you need to buy.
Like the other student mentioned before she gets extremely annoyed at emails and will answer in riddles. She was rude to me on multiple occasions, when I had a genuine question. Heavy workload, I do not recommend if you are taking other classes. She was fully uncaring about an incredibly stressful, life-changing situation I explained.
Great class and professor.
You have to do a lot of thought papers in regard to the textbook chapters, which means reading a lot. She doesn't really have clear grading criteria and gives vague feedback. Her lectures are about an hour long for one topic and provide a bunch of YouTube videos that are 5 minutes long. She expects DETAILED NOTES. I wouldn't take her again.
She is so rude and answer very minimal if you have a question. Expects you to know things off the back from her very long lectures and if you don't know how to write Chicago style don't bother taking her class because she doesn't give a clear way how to write it. Encourage others to drop her class for all sorts of reasons. Just don't take her class
This professor challenges how you think about American history and taught me more about writing than my English class. We wrote on topics from the regular textbook and another book was read for seminar discussions. She graded pretty easy once you get what she wants.
This class takes so much of my time. I am writing this Mid-semester, so my feelings about this professor are raw. I do not recommend taking this professor if you just need a history credit. If you have a heavy course load, this teacher is not for you. 0/10 and 0 stars!!!!
AVOID AT ALL COSTS! Does not care about students or helping you pass the class. Lecture heavy, reading heavy, assignment heavy, note heavy. There never seems to be clear or correct instructions as to what is expected. Expect to dedicate at the very least 6 hours of your week to this class. How does this professor get away with teaching this way??!!
Very hard online class. Very hard grader. Would not reccomend
Similar experience from other students. She is not clear in her instructions, nor does she care for the students. She has paranoia about AI; although her lectures are lengthy, it is clear she doesn't trust nor care about her students. She stresses to her students that even though this course is mandatory, avoid taking it with her!
So many papers to write and if not written in the exact style she wants the your grade goes down. Test were a nightmare with the matching terms that did not make sense no matter how much studies were done.
incredibly tough grader and leaves passive aggressive remarks on assignments, will lower your grade if *your* notes are not up to her standard
This teacher does not make assignments easy to read and does not care for her students. She is very passive-aggressive and gets upset if you have questions. Her assignments have weird timing for when they are due and she deletes all of the material every week so good luck with studying from that. MUST take notes on EVERYTHING to not miss anything.
Professor Smith has a specific teaching style, but engaging with it pays off. The lectures are helpful, and the textbook is a valuable resource. To succeed, stay focused, read the material, and use study tools like Unstuck study. Overall, a challenging yet rewarding class.
very very paranoid about ai. i had to make purposeful mistakes just so there was clear "human error". but she gives good feedback and besides paranoia is a decent teacher
This professor is very tough at grading and also get upset if student don't understand directions.
Professor Smith is very passionate about her work. She is a fantastic teacher. However, her class was very difficult. There was a lot of notes, reading, and assignments. The tests were hard. She is a tough grader, but she gives meaningful feedback. If you are looking to learn professor smith is perfect. If you just need a history credit not so much
Smith can be challenging at times, but she is an overall good teacher. She gives perfect constructive criticism when it comes to assignments. However, the workload was sometimes too much, lots of notes taking from her lectures and reading the book chapters for the quizzes with assignments. I felt like I did more work here than in any other class
Took Smith twice and loved both classes. You do need to read and listen to lectures every week. Very nice professor.
Where do I start.. Her directions are all over the place, when you email for clarification she gives you more of a mixed answer. Uses Chicago style on everything, but doesn't share how exactly she wants it. Deletes assignments right when they're due.. Will give you a 0 even if you messed up 1 little thing.. Do yourself a favor, DON'T take her!!
Was just very difficult by just grading assignments especially for a subject like history, (the assignments were easy) but her grading was very unfair and keeps you at a D basically the whole semester.
Took her class in the fall online, it was miserable. Average week would be heavy reading, quiz or 2, 1-3 hour long mandatory lectures(notes of what she said, had to be submitted) discussion or research assignment. Harsh grader with minimal or very confusing feedback. Never received a C in my life until this class. Nice woman, not my fav teacher.
She's a terrible teacher, extremely bad at explaining, lots of typos that make it hard to understand and the workload is just crazy, i don't recommend taking this class in the summer or even if you have a job, I've spent multiple hours reading, taking notes and watching her super long lectures. Don't expect her to give good feedback It's very vague
This professor was very rude! If you did not cite one source correctly, the grade would be brought down. I would ask for help, and she told me to look at the rubric or the book, though I was just confused on the instructions. She made my semester so stress filled and was not helpful at all. All I ever got was rude comments.
Unreasonable workload ,graded lecture notes (pages long), expect 15+ hrs/week. She makes you choose a topic, write your own questions, and find sources then tells you they're bad. No makeups; if granted, expect 20% off or/and AI accusations. Her questions are vague, unclear, and her answers if she responds are indirect . Very frustrating.
She started the class off in the syllabus making it very clear that we will not be friends. She packs in so much work for this class, I have never failed history in my life and I fail due to plagiarism in an essay? Make sure you learn chicago style citations because in the state of California you only learn MLA in high school… make it make sense!
This course was way too intense for just credit. Lectures were 20+ hours long, notes were graded, and using sources meant a zero if she didn't like them. My final paper got 1/150 for citing a source she sent, and then said not to use after I had already turned it in, with no chance to revise it. I would not recommend taking this course!
She structures the class easily throughout the week, When it comes to the finals she blindly drops everyone from an A /B to a D/F with 23/100 being the class essay avg. Beware, she doesn't fail you until the end with finals. You can ask her to remake work and she won't accept it and is not much help either. She is def writing her own good reviews!
The class itself was interesting and pretty stright forward. The professor offers little to no help. Does not allow resubmittions for a better grade. She was never clear with why she gave the grades she did and was unsympathetic. Also lots of videos and readings that can be hard to manage in the time allowed.
