Horrible. Teaches straight from the book. Struggles to answer student questions. Got an easy A in BI 121 and now I'm struggling to pass her class. Don't try to talk to her about anything, she'll give you a b.s. answer and brush you off.
The only thing that kept me afloat this semester was my previous knowledge in anatomy from high school. Very nice woman, but don't expect the quality of a veteran teacher. She walked in the first day and I thought she was another student! Very unhelpful at times... Ask to see your tests and quizzes, she botched the grading all the time with me!
Has she lost her mind? You do not give a lecture quiz on the same day as a lab test! Who actually studied for it? Oh, "but don't you want the extra points"? Her entire lecture is to read verbatim from her extremely long powerpoint. Has no clue how to explain things so we understand.
She expects us to comprehend just reading from the text book! Right! Then, she reads her powerpoint presentations to us, word for word in class. No classroom discussions, no explanations, nothing. She tells us to go home and draw diagrams if we think that will help! Of what...she doesn't tell us what we have to know.
She needs to learn how to teach. Actually she needs to learn how to explain things instead of reading right from the book. I can read the book, make what we are learning interesting, teach us about it and be able to answer our questions. I am paying to learn and am very frustrated with her. I hope she knows about this website.
she is the worst i have ever had. i think she needs to have another kid and stay at home for the benefits of hundreds of PAYING students who have learned almost nothing from her.
She basically takes her notes right out of the book. Though she does tell you basically what will be on the exams. She seems to be the best BI 121 prof. out there. She does give quizes on day of lab exams but I guess she doesnt actually know when you lab exams are going to be because she doesnt teach the lab. Class requires a lot of studying.
Does not know how to teach. She reads from her slides which are taken directly from the book. I can read. She doesn't apply it anything, make it interesting or even try. When a question is asked she dances around like a politician. I want my money back!!! I got an A in BI 121 and struggled to get a C in this.
I would not take Tamara if you want to learn A&P. She doesn't explain well (even when asked) She is new to College teaching, came directly from a medical field (quit med field and said "hey I think I want to teach") I have had many instructors that made an great impressions on me, and she is not 1 of them. She is a great person, but avoid for A&P!!
She is not as bad as what all the comments say. She does lecture straight from her notes but you probably wouldn't read them if she didn't go over them in class. She is very helpful if you ask her one on one. Just give her a break!! She's new at teaching!!
I have two words SMOKING HOT. Two more words Awful Teacher!
She is a great teacher! she is new to teaching but getting better at it.
Hottest Prof. I've ever had. For that matter, simply one of the hottest woman I have ever met. Unfortunatly, she is the worst prof. I have ever had. No structure, no key concepts for exams. If you memorize the book you may do fair, no wait some of her exam questions are actually incorrect. I mean come on, exact mg of Hg in parts of body. Sseesh
class is pertty easy...and she's kinda hot
I had her last semester for bi 121, although I got an A in her lecture, it was only because I taught myself. When someone in class would ask her a question she would say "it's in your book"!! Just because a teacher TELLS you what's going to be on the exams doesn't make them a good teacher. Take most everyone elses advice and don't take her class.
very nice person, really easy. you should read the chapters in the book just to review, but as long as you show up for class you should be good. especially b/c she does like to give pop quizes. but they are really easy. its mostly common sense. Its an easy course.
Cute, nice, just not a good teacher. Just because you are qualified enough to teach a class, doesn't mean you should be a teacher. Boring class, she should try to be more interesting. BORING AND DULL!!
She encorporated a lot of A&P info in her lectures which was useless because we were never tested on it. I think I studied maybe 30 minutes for each test and wrote the papers in an hour or less and got a 98% overall! Lectures are very boring, so bring something to keep yourself entertained. Very nice person and easy to talk to.
I didnt like her at all!! She didnt know what she was talking about. All she did was read her lecture notes and never explained them!!!! class was somewhat easy
She is very nice and if you take an interest, she will stay late in lab or meet you in her office to help you. There is a lot of memorization needed for this class, you MUST study. She won't waste her time helping you if you haven't done the preparation. I don' t blame her.
I think that Mrs. Szost did a good job with the class. Just read the material and you'll be fine.
she was very interesting. you need to study but, i thought she really used great real world examples. i loved that
she is a great teacher, explains things very well. has tons of examples. Knows what she's talking about, wants you to succeed. YOu will need to study and memorize a bunch but that's with any Bio class. and she is very funny/good sense of humor.
I had her for BI 125 and she gave me a bad grade on my project because my group was not preparred for the group project. I had dates and everything of when I emailed my group my portion of the project and I did most of the work. It was so unfair that I got a lower grade b/c of other people
Tami gives you all the information you need to know in her notes, but they are very difficult to understand. I find it much easier to understand the same concept from the book. She is very funny, good to look at ( even from a woman's perspective ) , but I struggle with her lecture format.
She was OK, more structured labs would have been nice, we never got to a lot of things on the SPO's that we were supposed to do in lab.
She's a cutie and has a fun personality. Not boring at all. There are weekly assignments which are not hard at all, but you can't forget to do them. Put a lot of effort into the group project. The class has a nice structure which makes it easy to get into the rhythm of how things work.

She's a PA in the field and is extremely knowledgeable! Fun personality and easy to talk too. This class helps you think and make choices about the path your taking toward your health. Tests are easy. Graphics are real and not for the weak stomachs! Take this class, it will change your life!
Nice person. Very clinical in her approach. You'll need to study hard to do well, but it's definitely possible to get an A with a lot of hard work.
Work hard and an A is possible. It's no cake walk though. This professor is very thorough so you'll need to know details. She's very clinical in her approach.
Professor Szost is AMAZING! I had her this summer for BI 121 and BI 122 and she is one of the best teachers I have ever had. She was a PA so she has extensive knowledge of the medical field and she is very "bubbly" and fun. Hard work is essential, but would be for any A&P class. LOVED HER!
Tami is very knowledgeable with everything that she teaches. Laid back, but will make you work really hard to get a good grade. If you study you will do well, and she will work with you the best she can.
Shes fun and bubbly for sure, her class is always interesting (BI Lec. 121 fall '08) but her notes are very clinical and repeat themselves alot in random places so it was hard for me to study unless i summarized them after class each day. not bad overalll but not my favorite Prof. either. good luck.
She?s hilarious. To me her class was easy, notes pretty straight forward, you just have to study, and it is a biology course.
She is a Cool Person but I hated her as a teacher, she went through things too fast and she used alot of medical terminology so if you did not take that before her class don't think about getting her wording on tests, she also made you know too many diseases. POINTLESS
Great teacher but tough class. Fun, easy-going, helpful, and knows the material. Gives you a list of things to know before a test, but uses boring slideshows. Tests require lots of memorization. Your grade in this class largely depends on how much you study on your own time.
Great instructor! Definitely not a class where absenteeism and/or poor study habits are encouraged. Go to class, take good notes, read the text, and you'll do just fine.
Excellent instructor. Best one I've ever had at GRCC. All those comments about her are just perceptive from people who probably did poorly and did not study and then tried to blame others for their mistakes or failures. My advice is to read the class material andd learn because this class will help you in your future medical career. Good luck..
Was interested in learning in this class, but the material is way complex for a supposed "survey" class. She said it was a very broad overview, but prepare to learn alot about chemical reactions in the body. Her tests are hard, her lectures and outlines complex. Pay close attention to what she emphasizes and repeats. It'll be an essay question!
Took it last Fall and didn't learn anything new. She talks about random diseases all the time which is pointless. Her presentations are very long and boring. Prepare to snooze a lot
This was a difficult "general anatomy" course. But if you study hard, read the text, and take good notes you should be fine. She is a good teacher who does discuss some illnesses that has nothing to do with the test. If I had one complaint it would be to keep the discussion on what we need to know.
She is excellent. This is not a class to sleep through, do the work, listen, come ready to learn. She was interesting and had a lot of stories to share that tied the material in! Loved this class, Loved this instructor!
This class was much easier than 121. I think she is a decent teacher. Her tests are pretty easy. This is a hard subject for some people but Tammy will make sure you do well. She is super smart and does go very fast but makes it up with easy tests.
This class is called "basic pathophysiology" but there's nothing basic about it. She packed it full of diseases and treatment protocols to memorize so if you don't have clinical experience, you're overwhelmed & lost all the time. I took it to save money on tuition at GVSU but ended up messing up my GPA. Not worth the effort or time commitment!!
She is a very nice, friendly teacher. Tries to works with students other class schedules. Packs in a lot of info. so tests are intense and need lots of studying. Interesting material that will be useful for those going into medical professions. Lots of adjustments during semester to fit usual 4 credit GVSU class into grcc's 3 credit class.
Mrs Szost is an awesome teacher. Her tests and the paper were easy. She's a very kind and generous person. She really wants her students to succeed which is why she often allows her students many opportunities at the same assignment. Very intelligent person. Attendance is mandatory.
She provides way too much content and is very disorganized. She reads off of her notes. As a result, we don;t know what to study. Bad teacher...nice person....but poor teacher.
Absolutely the worst instructor that I've ever had. She reads the lecture notes in class, no application or clarification. She does not answer questions and expects the class to know everything she is talking about. Hard to study for exams since there is way too much information. This class should be 2 semesters instead of one.
If you are wanting to take this class to honestly learn and get everything you can out of it, do not take it with this instructor. The majority of this class is lecture and all she does is literally read the notes that you already have to you. She is definitely extremely disorganized, more than i've experienced with any other professor at GRCC.
She is a nice person, but she should not be teaching this class. She took a month to grade a case study,a 3 paged paper answering questions. To me that's pretty unacceptable. The notes that she gives you are full of medical abbreviations that she rarely explains. She also fails to answer topic questions in a knowledgeable way.
She is a nice lady but it took her forever to respond to questions. There were times where our assignments did not unlock on time and it took a couple days for her to finally open the assignment link so we could complete it. Our final was open for 3 days before she finally posted letting us know we could take it. Ended up just bringing down my GPA.
Mrs. Szost is AMAZING! I had her this summer for BI121 lab & she is one of the most caring teachers I have ever had.She took the time to make an extra pwrpoint study guide for lab which really she didnt have to do.She's a PA so she is very knowledgeable in the medical field! Great bubbly personality, work Hard work and you will do great! LOVED HER!
She is a very nice person but doesn't know how to teach a lecture, she reverts back the the anatomy more than teaching the physiology. She would probably be a wonderful lab instructor but for lecture take someone else, especially if you plan to take 121 and 122.
Mrs. Szost is a very nice person and I would add that she knows her stuff. That said, just because somebody knows a lot about a topic, does not mean they can teach it. Combined with poor instruction is the fact that there is WAY too much information involved in this course for it to be a 3 credit course. Very disappointing.
I thought Mrs. Szost was an excellent teacher. The lectures moved along smoothly, and she encouraged class participation. She is a registered P.A. and her experiences were shared, which added to the pertinence of this class. She used Blackboard a lot, keep up on your assignments, read the book, attend class and you should do well.
Szost doesn't reply to emails in a timely matter. She left three of my emails unanswered for a month and a half. She would irregularly post the week's assignments on Blackboard (sometimes Sunday, Monday or Tuesday), but they were always due on Sunday night. Overall very unhappy with her performance.
Szost is a nice lady but honestly not a good lecture instructor. Do not take the lecture part with her! She provides way too much content, as a result, we didn't know what to study. At some point the whole class had to retake an exam. Did not follow the syllabus, very disorganized. Bad teacher...nice person....but poor teacher.
Szost is such a great professor. I had her for 121 and Forbes for 122. I had an issue arise and ran into her and she ended up helping me out for 2 hours, remind you this was a whole year later. Such a nice prof!
She is the kind of teacher who will test you on a bunch of terms rather than how those terms actually fit into the big picture. Her lectures are very hard to follow, she completely disregards her class schedule, the book work is irrelevant, and she has no problem scheduling tests right after weekends and breaks. Avoid this teacher at all costs.
This class was frustrating. She took a long time to reply to students and the assignments never seemed to open on time. The tests have to be taken on campus, and instead of focusing on the major concepts from the chapters, they consisted of completely random questions. But, if you study the chapter outlines on BB and the book you should be fine.
The best professor that I have had at GRCC so far. Professor Szost was great! Her lectures were to the point and easy to follow. She explains well and I was able to remember the information presented for the exams. If you study your lecture notes and pay attention, you will do well. She is kind, respectful, and will answer any questions you have.
Tamara is a great teacher. Idk why people are saying she's not. She's very helpful and knows her stuff. She worked in the medical field and gives real life examples. She uses tons of diagrams (where she can.) Is a fair grader and will explain a question on a test if she thinks its unfair or unclear. Take her! Fair warning its a very hard class.
Professor Szost is an amazing professor. Yes, she is hard, but at the same time you learn a lot from this course. She is willing to help her students and is respectful towards them. She gives great real life examples from being a practicing PA and she is well knowledgable about pathophysiology. I would recommend taking her.
She's a decent professor.
Having Proffessor assist this semester was amazing. The truth is if you act like an adult that wants to be treated like one you need to act it. She saved my semester! Gives tons of clinical examples. Doesn't just want you to pass but wants you to own the material. Sets you up for success and looks for your learning style. I would take her again!
She was a great prof! She went over everything we have to know for tests by giving us guides. She was always willing to help if we didn't understand something! I would suggest taking her! She is a great teacher!
Professor Szost is one of the best professors I have had at GRCC. She gives you tests reviews so you know exactly what will be on the test. I highly recommend her for BIO 121.
Prof. Szost was a great teacher and always took time to detail the material. Its not an easy subject and you DO have to study but she tries her hardest to make it as simple as possible. It was also nice that she gave us a choice of what we wanted to do for our project. The only problem is that she took FOREVER to grade.
If you are confused about an issue you can expect this teacher not to respond promptly unless you speak to her in person. The course is more difficult than the teacher makes it out to be, so study. The methods of teaching (narrating a long slideshow to the class, and sometimes watching a video of almost unrelated material) were not helpful to me.
I loved Professor Szost! She spends a lot of time on the material so that you can fully understand it. She uses a lot of clinical examples from her time as a PA which can be extra information but I always found it interesting. You have to go to class; you won't fully grasp the topic from what is on the lecture notes. Great prof overall!
Online class--Tests and quizzes are easy, but you ask her a question whether it be e-mail, phone call, or text, plan on waiting a minimum of 36 hours for a reply. She also doesn't update her syllabus or blackboard despite an updated textbook. It was quite apparent and early on that she didn't care about the success of the students.
She is very nice. You have to come to class for some assignments, others likes quizzes and self assessments are on blackboard. Every 4 chapters, you have a unit exam, 4 unit exams. She will work with students that are trying. There is no make up or extra credit so be in class when stuff is due.
Mrs. Szost cares deeply about her students and will work around and with your schedule if something comes up. The only issue I had was that she has a hard time staying on track with her lectures. Sometimes it is very hard to stay focused. YOU will have to learn your SPO's on your own, but they are the key to an A.
Difficult class, but if you study A LOT, participate, and don't miss class you'll be fine! Lectures are very helpful and you learn a lot of information each class.
really good lecture teacher, tests are straight forward- good real world examples
She's very animated and has great stories as a practicing PA. She can be a little unorganized and scatterbrained sometimes but hey, she's a busy lady. Tests are all multiple choice and could be tricky but I always managed an A or A-. She really cares about her students and has great advice for applying to PA school. You 100% do not need the book.
I loved being in her class! She has so many cool stories from being a PA and just experiencing life in general. Sometimes she would spend a little too much time on telling stories but I didn't feel like it took away from the lectures. She gives us the notes ahead of time but it really helps to be in class to know what's most important for tests!
Professor Szost has real life stories which interesting but otherwise is the most boring lecture instructor I have ever had. She is always going over lab things in our lecture class that we need to know for lab but doesn't focus on what we need to know for lecture as much. I would not take another class from her.
She does a great job at teaching the course despite the course being so heavy in material. She makes sure that you understand and really cares about the success of her students.
She did an amazing job at explaining the material and using real world-clinical examples to help us understand the anatomy and pathology. After a very rough BI121 LAB I was nervous, but she helped me so much and answered every question. Hands down the best science prof I've had!
Lec - Tamara was a decent Professor. She understood the materials she was teaching very well and provided stories of personal experiences. She spent a great amount of time talking about what we should know for lab as opposed to lecture where I felt I taught myself most of the info. The tests often had info that was never discussed or in the notes.
I love Professor Szosts personality but shes definitely one of those professors that doesnt realize her class isnt the only thing going on in your life. If you dont memorize every detail and fact from the reading youll fail because her tests are so specific. I would not recommend unless you have a photographic memory...
Would not recommend this professor at all. I emailed her numerous times during the semester and she never got back to me. Would randomly post assignments throughout the week, never had a set day she would post. Does not prepare you for tests well. Some weeks you would have one assignment and others you would have five.
Not enough characters to say what I want to, so I'll just say that having her as your professor isn't a good idea. She doesn't check emails-she straight up told me she "doesn't check this email often," with "this" email being her WORK/GRCC EMAIL. She's not accommodating/isn't willing to be, and PILES on the homework. I know it's a summer class but.
She did not grade one assignment until the end of the semester even when students asked every class. She has never responded to an email throughout the semester & tests us on material she STARTED the class before. No study guide has been given for any exam, & when she says she will post a review she won't. I have never been this upset over a class.
Would not recommend. She has yet to grade assignments, even when she has mentioned she would. Have emailed but receive no email back. Be prepared to have exams with topics learned day before. Does not answer students questions well on what she wants for assignments or exams & reads everything off of lecture notes that are already provided.
Would not recommend, has not graded a single assignment, even when students asked & said she would. Prepare for material on exam that you learned the day before. Does not respond to emails or answer students questions on what she wants for assignments. No rubrics for assignments. Reads everything off of lecture notes that are already provided
Would not recommend this professor to my worst enemy. She is very knowledgeable don't get me wrong, but she does not prepare her students for the exams whatsoever. She would lecture on topics we are tested on THE NEXT CLASS and doesn't answer emails. One of the hardest classes I have taken in my 5 years of schooling.
she is knowlegable about the material she teaches, but is a horrible teacher. She only teaches her learning styles, so a bullet point list of info overload w/ no organization to it. She won't grade your assignments/ tests for a month+, she trauma dumps randomly & bluntly. Stated that people are being cloned since the 1940s& we just dont know.
aka Tami Miedema. She's nice but doesn't realize she's kinda classist and frequently condescending/judgmental. She said some borderline conspiracy stuff. We had a 10 page paper (11pt font, single spaced) so it was more like a 20 page research paper. She's not a tough grader tho. Tests were hard, some questions were more pathophys oriented than A&P.
aka Tamara Miedema. I only took her lab and she lectured about sooo many random things that were very loosely related to what we were talking about. I sat in class and just did quizlet or colored diagrams so I recommend sitting in the back so you're less distracting, she doesn't care. I would never take her class again Recommend Rierson 1000% more.
