This teacher has a terrific personality for a class that can become very dull, very quick. There is a lot of work and a lot of reading but she will walk you through it. Worth taking!!
teacher was very nice and helpful. she is very fair and does not give any busy work. she is very hot too.
One chill ass teacher! I thought I failed the class and guess what I got a B for not putting too much effort forth. She wants you to have a good grade and will do all that she can so the you do well.
She made this class interesting, she knows her stuff. She offers extra credit and if you are always in class that will help your grade. The test are a little difficult, studying is a must. Overall a great teacher for a drab subject
great tacher, get involved in the discussions and you will hav fun, study for the test cuz they are hard, overall, difficult class but ggod teacher
Very fair. Extremely nice lady..cares a lot about the students' success. Dont take anyone else!
She's a sweet lady and teaches well, but sometimes seems a bit fake.
Online class sucks. Slides don't match current version/edition of book. Four papers are difficult because of poor parameters (if you follow her directions you'll get a C.) I'm getting an A but its been difficult. Book=A; Her organization=F. Due dates always changing. Class not taught at intro level.
The online class is very confusing. She gives you powerpoint notes that do not match the textbook. Discussion boards are weekly and easy. Tests are hard and she tells u how to get a C not an A. The midterm was multiple choice and easy, but the final is short answer essay, which is extremely hard. She is quick to answer emails and help though.
This is the best teacher. Her lectures are really easy to follow and she posts her notes on blackboard. She gives you extra credit and her class is very interesting. She is very nice and easy to talk to. I would recommend taking her!!
this teacher is really nice and helpful. theres a lot of work cuz its an internet course, but overall its not that hard to pass it. her final was a little difficult but the discussion boards are really easy and the midterm was kinda easy too.the papers are a little difficult tho. shes really quik in answering emails and tryies to help best as pos
awsome teacher... very helpful and a great person... also very understanding
LOVE HER!!!!!!! She is GREAT!! What more can you ask for?! She post all of her notes on blackboard and gives you study guides for all tests. Theories is more difficult than Family was b/c of all of the definitions needed to learn and remember. In Theories, you get a cheat sheet for the final (helps so much!). Family was much easier. Easy A!
I wish all GE classes could be on the web. Outstanding professor. Good powerpoint notes, 4 quizzes, 1 midterm, 1 final and 1 paper. Discussion Board questions almost every week. Takes awhile to grade papers, but who doesn't. I highly recommend taking this class, especially since it is on the WEB and not in the classroom.
This is an easy class to take on the web. Although the text sucks, the teacher is willing to help the student as much as she could. 2 pages of notes, front & back, for the midterm and final. There are weekly discussion board questions that are easy to get full credit if you answer thoroughly.
I am in my last semester of college and this class was BY FAR the HARDEST class I have ever had. I just took this class for an what I thought would be an easy 3 units. I was wrong! I have never gotten a "C" in my life and now I am praying that I get one. This class is definitely not taught at intro level and the teacher is the harshest grader !
Very nice and helpful with her students. But some tough discussion board questions and are due each week. She is a great online professor.
Great Instructor. Mrs. Esguerra is very helpful and takes a great interest in her students. Great class and I really enjoyed the discussion boards.
It is a lot of work for an intro class. I had an easier time with my major classes.
this online class is way too hard. She wants you to read 70-90 pgs and respond to discussion board every week. 3 exams, i took the first one, and only 50 pts from multiple choice, 50 for essay. really high expectation from students. You have to answer thoroughly to get full 5 points on discussion board.
The workload is a little extreme for a web class. The curriculum certainly is not geared toward all types of students. For a full-time worker, this class is very time consuming and difficult to keep up with.
Theories of Soc. Behavior-she expects a lot. She has a lot of assignments. A lot of work for an online class. She is helpful to students though.
The workload was excessive for an undergrad course. We were assigned 75-100 pages of reading per week & page-long discussion board postings; the first two exams were 50 question multiple choice with 3-5 page essay questions, the last exam was 75 m/c. She is an extremely harsh grader & very slow to post assignment & test grades. Cannot recommend.
The work in this class is ridiculous. She gives way too much work for a 300 web class. If you want to have a life, don't take this class.
This is a time-consuming online class. You will need a reliable internet connection. Two required textbooks; one writing assignment. Borders on philosophy. You have to work hard but it's possible to earn a good grade if you try. Lots of reading. No trips to campus required.
I took this class online, and it was really easy. You have to put in the time each week since there are weekly assignments, but it's not too hard. You really need the book. Most assignments are relatively uncomplicated.
Took this class online. Need to make sure you are dedicated to weekly assignments. Class is not difficult but don't get behind! Professor Esguerra is very quick to reply to emails. Loved the book! very enjoyable to read
I took this class online. If you have the book and do what she requires, some reading, the class is really easy. Discussion board topics are easy to answer if you did the reading and have an opinion. I would recommend this course to anyone. Tests are multiple choice. One writing assignment that is easy but time consuming. Would recommend to anyone.
Assigns A LOT of work. I took this class online. In order to get a good grade, you have to keep up with all the readings and the assignments. She gives out study guides that are very helpful, but become tedious when filling out and it's A LOT of work too.
Tough class and assigns ALOT of work, but if you follow direction and put in the effort...you will be okay.
85-100 pgs reading p/ week. 2 discussion boards 2 quiz 2 surveys per week. 3 exams. 1 paper that is NOT FUN. The most boring subject matter ever. As a person-She is nice and responds quickly - Asmt. expectations clearly communicated. No problem with her - but the class itself was terrible. I Don't reccomend for a web class.
took this class online.Like most online classes there's alot of reading involved. She is extremely organized and helpful. All you have to do is read the text,do the discussion board,1 research paper, and the tests.(she gives you notes as to exactly what is going to be on the test). There is no way to get a bad grade.
I tried taking this class online but it is way too much work. I am currently taking it in person and you dont have not even near that amount of work. Just read the book. NO weekly assignments. No discussion boards. Only 1 research paper. She has a very detailed study guide for each exam including essay question. Super easy A! :)
There are 4 papers to write. No other HW but reading.(i never did). Powerpoint Notes.EC pts avail. Tests are 50 MC w/ essay. Not too bad.VERY helpful, and responds to emails quickly. It's a good class with a bit of a challenge. I would recommend her. Just do ALL the work or you will be behind. PTS w/ participation.
The workload isn't too bad each week, but the one paper is very hard. I wish she'd assign several short papers instead of one super long paper at the end. She does give a little more work than most teachers, but I found that everything she assigned really taught you something and helped prepare for the test. No busy work, except the paper.
She is an excellent instructor. I which all my classes could have an instructor like her. For sure you will enjoy her class; she is so clear and helpful. If that information is not enough, she is an amazing human being and also she is so beautiful
She is honestly one of the nicest professors I have ever had. She makes sure that you know that your input in a conversation is important and wanted. I never felt like any opinion I had in that class was stupid, and she was a great teacher. I loved this class!
This class was amazing! easiest sociology class ever. no homework assigns, besides three essays that she gives to you months in advance and offers help in every way. tests are all multiple choice with extra credit short answer questions. i dont think ive ever seen her frustrated or out of line with anything. shes awesome!
She was a very helpful and genuinely nice professor. She made the class very interesting and appealing to everyone. If you need an instructor for this class she is highly recommended
She's super nice and helpful. I don't feel bad about asking questions or constantly emailing her. The only thing is that her tests are challenging. Multiple choice is difficult. I've never passed one of her tests, but passed anyways
she is super nice, and friendly. really cares and helps you whenever need it. lectures are not boring at all. multiple choice test with essay questions. gives you a study guide, but it is very broad not narrowed in. gives an optional final which can only help you out. recommend big time.
Great class, very helpful. She wants students to succeed. Very prompt in returning emails for questions. Very pleasant professor.
Great, friendly teacher who was very communicative and quick to respond to emails. There were weekly discussions and also 2 exams that were challenging but followed the text. A research paper project was divided into 3 smaller parts throughout the semester. Extra credit for submitting a draft paper and giving feedback for other students' papers.
Hard to pinpoint and rate her easiness. There are so many opportunities for easy points; discussion boards, blogs, assignments, etc. The tests under a 2 hour limit even with open book is kinda difficult if you didn't really study/read. But take her. She is a great professor, she gives feedback, she answers emails promptly, and it was a great course
Great teacher I highly recommend! Really enjoyed the class. Discussion boards every week of at least 500 words, sometimes 2 of them. 4 blog posts & 3 exams. Quite a bit of work but not hard to get done. I got 1010 on every discussion board and often times didn't try my best. Take her, best online class I have taken yet and I have taken plenty.
It was a pretty easy class, but the tests were a little tough. I never got lower than a B on them though.
I took the online course. She was not easy on the grading but was incredibly helpful. I learned a lot from the course and am thankful to have taken in.
Very straight forward class. The grading is clear, the class is not demanding, and she is great at replying to emails very quickly. Professor Esguerra made this a really enjoyable writing class. Would definitely recommend her.
Professor Esguerra is great! She gives very manageable homework assignments which help make up for the grade because she is tough on grading papers. She is very clear in her expectations and instructions for the class and answers questions to help. Will definitely take her class again :)
Esguerra is a great professor! She is very clear in her expectations and gives pretty manageable homework. Definitely would take again!
No power points just modules and those dont help. 1 of the books was difficult to read and there r at least 3 chapters to read every week. 3 exams, the final has one cumulative part (which is easy if you pay attention to the other tests). No extra credit, but the blogs (fun), discussion boards, and assignments are easy. Exams r hard if u dont read
Was excited for this class, but it was like basic high school tips for teens or young adults. Still a lot of work. Read practically the whole book, several quizzes, few exams, 4 discussions (START EARLY ON), otherwise straightforward. Clear grading rubrics. She's a very nice lady, you can tell she is very understanding.
TAKE HER. Professor Esguerra is a high recommend on my list of professors! When I first took one of her online SOC courses, I wasn't sure to expect from her. In all honesty, she is an inspiration to me and my success in school. Fully participate in the course and communicate with her effective, and you will be very successful in her courses!
It's an organized online course for students who have busy schedules and work full time. Her readings are a little heavy but short chapters on multiple topics. Readings and lectures are interesting. Every week there are discussion questions, quizzes and tests are fairly easy if you completed readings. I would take this professor again.
She was my first online professor, and she was outstanding. She had a crystal clear grading criteria and always gave feedback on every assignment. She also took the time to read and grade everything. The nitty gritty; 5 discussion boards, 2 surveys, 4 quizzes, 2 papers, a midterm, and a final. The class is easy IF you put in the work. She's great!
This class makes you work but you learn a lot. I loved her class, it was always interesting, and I appreciated the text message reminders. I would would highly recommend taking her class.
Took this class online and was surprised by the layout. An extremely organized professor who breaks it down week by week. Great for anyone working full-time or with other responsibilities. The tests are oddly specific so be sure to do the reading. Would advise planning ahead for the blog projects so they don't creep up on you. Plan ahead!
The amount of work in this class is insane. The typical week consisted of one 50 point quiz, around 30 pages of reading, and a discussion question around 2 pages long. On a heavier week it would be multiple blogs, and longer quizzes. She doesn't read the essays she assigns. If you meet the essay requirement its an automatic 100%.
Professor Esguerra is AMAZING. I was extremely worried about taking an online class, but ended up registering to take another one with her! She is so clear with directions and expectations on assignments, and does an excellent job of making sure everyone is aware of due dates. I would HIGHLY recommend taking her!!!!
There are 6 quizzes and 1 cumulative exam that is easy if you review all the quizzes. The quizzes are based on 2 chapters sometimes 3. The quizzes are about 30 to 40 questions long. You do have to read for you to do good. There are 4 discussions and 4 blogs. She will keep you busy, but you will learn a lot.
This class is well organized and Professor Esguerra sends you weekly emails (or text messages through Remind Me) about what is due each week. The books are crucial to pass the quizzes. The quizzes can be detailed at times, so reading the assigned chapters each week is necessary to pass. Professor Esguerra understands students are busy. Take her!
She is a great professor, teaches us students wonderful things, is inspirational, caring, helpful, kind and I can perfectly rate her as my all time favorite professor.
Easy online class if you have good time management skills. There are 3 blogs you have to do and make which was easy. Only 900 words you have to do for them on any topic you are learning about. She gives you dates in advance so you have time to plan out. Online questions you have to answer that you can keep retaking if you dont get the score u want
weekly modules, 3 blog entries, some flip graphs. The exams were pretty hard for me, they were long sometimes I ran out of time. Overall if you put in the work, you will do good!
This class has discussion posts, blog entries, flipgrids, and weekly modules. It can be consuming but it's definitely not difficult. The quizzes (exams) are reflective of the module and textbook material - I found them pretty easy after completing the modules, reading, and taking notes of the lectures. She sends weekly reminders about due dates.
Professor Esguerra is an amazing professor. This class was fully online, but not once did I ever felt as though I was alone in this class as she heavily emphasizes peer communication. Everything that is discussed in the book and module is extremely relevant. Additionally, she's so responsive, which I appreciate.
This was a good class, decent amount of work but not too bad. It seems worse than it actually is at some points. Blogs are kinda difficult so make a checklist of the things you need and that will help. Not hard to get an A if you just follow the instructions and do all the work
She's very clear about her grading guidelines and what to expect as the weeks go along. It's a lot of reading the text + modules but not too bad for an online course. I can tell she really cares that we retain the knowledge.
RECOMMEND! RECOMMEND! Took her online during the pandemic and the class was asynchronous. She always sends out reminders throughout the week to complete the module of the week. The assignments and exams were not too bad. Do the work and you'll pass. Pretty easy A.
Professor Esguerra's course was easy to follow a long and despite the class not having zooms she responds to emails fairly quickly. Honestly, the material she provides in the modules is quite interesting. It it is a decent amount of work however if you keep up with it you should receive an A.
As long as you do the assignments you will get an A. There was extra credit offered. Lots of blog posts and homework takes some time, but she does not grade harshly, and they are not hard to do. I missed a big assignment; emailed her and she let me turn it in. One of the nicest professors I've had. Understands mental health issues!
Throughout the semester, I could always count on Professor Esguerra's feedback and email communication. She was always so kind and understanding. The modules for her class were lengthy but interesting. Although there were a few exams, the class was mostly graded on discussions, blogs, and video replies. Overall, I enjoyed the class & learned a lot.
The modules are long, sometimes taking 3+ hours to complete. She assigns two blog projects, what is this 2000? Her tests are poorly written, and most of the material is not covered in the readings or modules. She does, however, drop your lowest exam score if you take the optional final exam.
Her modules are a bit time consuming but this was a writing class so it makes sense. Every module had so much information on helping us with our papers. I dont see why you wouldnt get an A in this class if you try hard and follow along with the modules. She is also really understanding if you email her about any assignment! I loved her class :)
Please guys! Read! This class is way to much for an elective. It consists of weekly modules which means quizzes and assignments. 3 exams that you must read for (nothing is online if you try to look up), the final is optional and can replace your lowest exam if taken. 2 blogs (big assign.), 2 Discussion boards (600word count for each). 2 Flipgrids.
This class consists of lots of hw. Weekly quizzes that you must read for. Weekly assignments. 3 exams and optional final. 2 blogs Assignment (900 word for each). 2 db (600 word count for each). 2 Flipgrids (introduction and answering some questions from the modules). If you consider taking this class allow yourself 2hrs to finish the work (weekly)
To much work. Thought it would be easier but wasnt. Every week theres assignments and quizzes due. You must read in order to get the answers. Modules every week take up about 2 hours or even more when big assignments are due.
Professor Esguerra was one of the best professors I have taken here at CSUF. I am currently taking her again for the second time, and she is very caring to her students. She is understanding, and gives great feedback. Take her if you can.
Great professor overall, took her for soci351 and passed. Weekly module quizzes, but they are easy! Have to do blogs, but she offers great references throughout the modules. Get the book! Textbook will help in quizzes and the quizzes are not timed. take her!!!
TAKE HER!!! She is by far one of the best and most caring professors ever! She accepts late work and extends time for blogs (there are 2 required blog posts). Her lectures are very interesting and detailed. You won't regret taking her!
Online Asynchronous class is consisted of Weekly Modules - with all readings/info in them. Each module have short & easy quizzes. Modules short quizzes & assigns. do add up, so be sure to do them. There are 3 Exams (@ 65pts ea) & an optional cumulative final (replaces lowest exam). Plus, 2 blog posts & 2 discussion posts. Overall, pretty easy A!
Online Asynchronous class consists of weekly modules with all readings/info in them. at the end of each module, you have quizzes and she gives you two chances to take quizzes. There are 3 Exams 65pts ea. an optional cumulative final replaces the lowest exam. 2 blog posts & discussion posts. I really like how she made it easy for an online class.
Would take again.
Professor Esguerra is an amazing professor that cares about her student's success. She uses her own personal history to connect and relate with first gen students. The structure of the course was very well organized, and weekly assignments consisted adequate preparation for final research paper. I cannot recommend a better professor for this class.
She is a gem! She provides a very interesting and engaging learning space. The only tough thing to do in the class is the Blogs, so start that early so you can get that out of the way. Other than that, I only have good things to say about this professor.
A great professor. Everything was really straight forward. The only thing you have to worry about in this class is the final paper but she gives you plenty of time to work on it. I would take a class with her next semester. I recommend going to office hours just to talk to her. Take her!
For an online class, the way she structured the course was EXTREMELY organized, thorough, and I truly enjoyed it. You can totally tell that she took a great deal of time in developing this online class. She gives you the lectures and necessary tools to succeed, not only in her class but also for the rest of your academic career.
Goes through great lengths to pass her students if they need an extra boost or going through personal issues. Very fair in her grading & helpful. Has a very organized system that seems overwhelming but it's only bc she's very detailed. She provides 10 paper examples around wk 12 of the mock research proposal you'll work on over course of semester.
I love her! Shes super caring so I recommend setting up a zoom app if you need help. Module completion is a lot but the assignments are easy. Her exams are little tough but doable! The only thing that takes a lot of time and effort are the blogs (x2). Just start ahead of time! This topic is actually interesting too. Great lectures.
She gives out 4 exams (final is optional), two blogs; 900+ word requirement, discussion boards; 600+ word requirement. This class wasn't bad but its a heavy load of work in doing excessive wording on the assignments.
Amazing professor! Taken 3 classes so far with her and a great experience every time. 3 exams optional final that replaces an exam grade. 2 blog 900+ words not too bad. All the other assignments small and really easy. As long as you take notes on her lecture videos and do the study guides this class is a breeze. Great to talk to and cares about you
Professor Esguerra weekly modules and 2 Blogs take a long time to finish. She has multiple assignments due at the same time. I also noticed she recycles her material from previous semesters and she does not update information. Her exams would have questions from chapters we did not review and she did not take the time to make changes.
Not sure how this teacher has 5/5. Took her online 411 Criminology class and she grades so extreme. All of her assignments range from .75 points to 5 points max aside from a few discussion boards that are 15 points and exams that are worth a lot more. If you get a c or B on the exam its going to tank your grade.
Cheap textbook, A LOT of content in the modules (really helpful in the end). DB posts to hold you accountable thru writing process so don't expect to start writing last minute. Very nice teacher. Emails back fast, even on weekends. Not sure what the 16 wk course looks like, but would not recommend taking the 8 wk concurrent w/ many other classes.
One of the best professors on this campus. The only assignment that takes time is the blog but I felt like its easier to write than an essay. Extremely caring and wants you to succeed. A very organized online class. The workload is pretty manageable. I've taken multiple classes with Professor Esguerra and never had any complaints. Take her classes!
Professor Esguerra is amazing! I loved taking her class!!
the perfect mixture between writing, discussions and assignments. esguerra is an angel!!!!! she is so nice and easy to talk to, the class has a perfect balance and it was actually fun and interesting to learn.
I don't recommend taking her for an elective class. This class wasn't bad but there is way too much homework. She gives out 4 exams, two blogs (900+ words), discussion posts, and weekly quizzes and homework.
Took her for SOCI 308 as part of the online sociology degree program. The class was 8 weeks long for Fall 2024. The discussion posts that she assigned were relevant to the research proposal assignment that we needed to submit at the end of the course. Which I appreciated since the program is supposed to be working full-time adult friendly.
She is an amazing professor, Super caring and the work is easy. She has interesting lectures and her tests arent that hard as long as you take notes and pay attention to the lecture videos. She cares to help you succeed and is engaging with her students.
She's very kind and responsive if you have questions. Easy class, just a lot of reading. You will definitely need the textbook
Great professor with a very organized Canvas page (async. course). I personally disliked that a lot of content was in screencast videos with no separate text I could reference without pausing the video, but that's about differing learning styles and nothing against the prof. She's very responsive and the class has a reasonable workload.
Professor Esguerra was truly the kindest Professor I have ever had. She truly wants you to succeed, not just in her class but in life as and a individual. Self explanatory, clear grading and she always gave me an opportunity to earn some points rather than no points if I missed. Quizzes, exams, discussions and voice assignments were easy.
Esguerra's SOC351 class has a great balance of assignments. Weekly quizzes and modules are manageable, and the blogs aren't too difficult. Textbook is useful but not required. unstuckstudy helped me prep for exams. Overall, a worthwhile and enjoyable elective.
I was worried about the big blog assignment but it ended up not being too difficult. Just think of it as a longer than usual discussion post that you have to do on a website. Other assignments were not too difficult and professor was nice.
Prof Esguerra is kind and responsive. However, workload can be heavy at times and the blog assignment is a bit much. I would have rather done a paper instead.
wow, amazing super understanding professor. I had a mental health crisis and did not do my exam and she let me do it with no penalty. There are weekly quizzes, some discussion board, 4-5 exams. The blog assignment is not as tedious as it seems, write from your heart! Very easy class and actually very interesting class. Highly recommend!
Professor Esguerra is amazing! There is a reading from the ebook, watching the lecture videos, and some other readings she provides, small quizzes and discussions for each lecture. There is a blog we have to complete in the class. You have to research a topic from the lectures and create a blog. The class has great info.
Professor Esguerra is amazing and highly skilled in her field. Though the workload can be intimidating, it's essential and very informative. Each lesson has quizzes, discussions, eBook readings, lecture videos, and additional materials. We also complete a semester-long blog. I truly enjoyed her class; this course is outstanding overall.
The class was a great introductory class to the Online Sociology completion program. Professor Esguerra did a great job at introducing us to the writing style expected of the class, and throughout the semester, we pieced together a large project for a completed Research Proposal due by the last week of class. Would retake this teacher.
Professor Esguerra did a great job at working with students of all walks of life and introducing us to a sociological look at gender, sex, and society. There was a project due by the end of the class, but she pieced it together for us. By the time it was due, we had a strong foundation and the tools to create and post the required blog projects.
Professor Esguerra is one of the best sociology teachers at CSUF. I'm taking her online, and her lectures are easy to stay engaged with because they're interesting & not too long. She actually knows how to set up her Canvas, plus you can tell she cares and puts a lot of time into her job. Her modules actually teach you as you go. Take her!
This professor is great and provides a TON of resources and gives a lot of time for weekly assignments (they're also very easy). She does have a few exams that need to be taken on a lockdown browser, but don't let that sway you the exams are still very easy.
