Very easy. Took a research paper and broke it up into sectins for a whole semster. If you didn't like your grade you could keep redoing the assignment till you got the grade you wanted. Easy A if you just do the work.
Wrote 5 essays, but they only had to be 2-3 pages, and you get to do rewrites. Easy A. Enjoyed her class.
She let's out early almost everytime. Must show up for attendance though. Easy papers. Very lenient and helpful
EASY A!!! She is awesome and wants to help everyone really bad. Lets out early every day. I think she just wants to be everyones friend. All you do is one research paper that is broken up into diff. parts. SOOOO EASY!! Best English teacher ever!!
Fun and easy class.
awesomeclass, easyA, helpful, can emailpapers, just show up for class, out early,
Ms. Phillips is so sweet, but pretty boring. She cares about her students, and wants you to do well. Easy class!
Possible the easiest and best teacher you could get. She cares so much about her students and wants nothing more than to help you pass. She even took time out of her schedule to talk to me about my schedule for the next semester. TAKE HER AND YOU ARE GUARANTEED AN A!
This class was easy to me because i only had it on tuesday, thursdays so on tuesday we talked about the chapter and on thursday we took an open book quiz... very easy... she doesn't believe in big test... and you only have 3 speeches the whole year!
OMG* Do not take her! She totally sucks. She can not talk right & she does not know what the hell she is talking about. DO NOT TAKE HER!
She is real sweet and kind of nerdy. She's super easy b/c you only have to give 2 individual speeches and one group speech. You have some open book quizes and chapter jounals that you have to do. She takes late work. Her final was super easy because we watched the Breakfast Club and had to write a page and a half about communication!
Omg... shes so awesome and sooo easy! i've never been that hot at writing but i have an A in that class. She is also very sweet and doesn't really care about u coming to class. just as long as u do the papers assigned. Which there is only like 4 papers the whole semester! TAKE HER SHES SO EASY!!!!
She was easy, but she wasn't very helpful with the material. Make sure you go to class or else your grade may go down because of her participation points.
She's really easy and really sweet. She's happy to help you if you have questions or anything. I'd recommend her.
Ms. Phillips is great. Espically if you don't like to speak in front of people. There are only 2speechs. The only homework is online. Which is also easy. She tells the most amusing stories. She's a great lady.
You don't necessarily have to go to class to understand the material, but she does record participation points. Most of the homework is on webCT. There are very, very few speeches you actually have to do. The discussions are entertaining so the class is never boring. Ms. Phillips is a really sweet lady and I'd definitely recommend her class.
Ms. Phillips class is very easy. The only way you fail is if you are extremely lazy or don't turn in papers. If you try she will work with you.
she's very easy...you only have two speeches to do...a group and an individual...her biggest problem is that she doesn't return work and she doesn't keep you updated on your grade...quizes and journals are on webct...she doesn't return your quiz through webct so that you can see what you missed...you may end up with a grade and wonder why...
She's a really easy teacher--but i felt like I was back in kindergarten. She was nice though. And, she hardly ever made us come to class. :)
she's a very easy teacher. you only have to do two speeches and make sure you're not over or under the time cuz she takes off quite a few points for that. just show up to class and do the homework on webct she assigns and you should do pretty good. oh, and you get to use your book on the quizzes and the final. i highly recommend taking her!
I LOVE Mrs. Phillips!! She was definitely the nicest teacher I had this semester. She's very easygoing and loves the students. She only requires two speeches, one individual and then a group project. I was really nervous about taking speech but with her it wasn't horrible whatsoever. Definitely try to take her!
It's an easy class to begin with, but with her it becomes a breeze. She has very little daily work. You only write five papers for the semester. She tries to make a boring class interesting. Just show up and hand something in. You should get an A.
She was really nice and helpful. Her course wasn't too difficult and she cared about your success in the class.
LOVED this professor. She was very helpful. Go to class and keep up with assignment due dates and the class is an easy A.
She is super nice, and the class is very easy. She's extremely helpful, and will work with you in any way that she can. Definately recommend her!
I had her for Univ. Studies. The class was only 8 weeks long but every day i had to go i dreaded it. She has a very annoying way of talking. I was supposed to have her for Comp. 1 also but i didn't even bother going. I went straight to my advisor to switch but if you want an easy A go for it if you can handle the kindergarden work & weird talk.
Mrs. Phillips is a great teacher! At first she graded hard, but then after I went to talk to her two times she helped me a lot! She seems hard at first but she gets easy near the end of the year. We only wrote 5 papers and 1 research paper! You should take her!
I loved her class. Pay attention, be honest in your writing and come up with a good topic and you will do fine. It just takes attendance and little attention. Easy A. She takes forever to grade however. Take the class.
Tami Philiips is really nice. You only do three speeches. One on the first days of class as in impromptu speech about your self. The second is a persuasive. And the final speech is a group project. No test except the final which is easy. I would take her again any day.
Ms. Phillips is a really nice person. She wears all black ALL the time, except for her colorful holiday socks! In Speech 1300 we did a 1 minute speech about ourselves, one persuasive speech, and one group speech over a movie. All of the homework (which isn't much) is very easy. Easy A! Take her!
Sooooo easy. Take her. Only 3 easy easy speeches, one thats a group speech and one that's just all about Yourself. The other, persuasive. no test, open book final. Extremely easy. and she's nice :)
Pretty good teacher but doesn't always understand students.
Class is extremly easy. But i was failed because she did not agree with the topic i chose for my final paper. went from an A to an F in one paper
Okay. The thing about this teacher...okay. Is that she has this habit...okay. She'll say the same word at the end of every sentence...okay. And it's extremely annoying...okay. Enough said. I do not recommend this professor for a speech class. Too much useless busy work.
I really liked Mrs. Phillips. She was always very helpful and she would explain things to you if you didn't understand it. She also doesn't always use the whole class time so you will get out early almost all of the time. I just really enjoyed her.
Ms.Phillips is really nice, her class was a little boring.
She is kinda awkward, but it makes me laugh. She is very understanding if you have a problem- I didn't know I was supposed to type one of the assignments and she only counted off 1 point. She is very easy to understand and she doesn't grade hard on speech presentation. Just make sure they have the appropriate content and time span, and you're good to go! She is a great teacher :)
DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR. It is way too much work for a gen ed. If you so, you will regret it every day of the semester. She grades extremely hard and she doesn't offer any makeups.
Dont take her class. She takes her job too serious and usually the actual presentation carries very little weight grade wise. For one speech there are 5 different things to turn in. She tends to count off for irrelevant stuff. She expects too much for gen ed. The work load is way too high. The class just brings stress
DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR! she goes WAY to much into detail for a gen ed class. Assigns all speeches at once at the beginning of the semester and expects you to just remember dates for the rest of the semester. She gives assignments on TV shows that she expects you to spend EXTRA money on buying. DO NOT TAKE HER!!
DO NOT TAKE HER! She is not willing to help at all, until the day before your assignments due. She does not teach...at all. Assigns too much irrelavent homework. Difficult grader. It's too much work for a GenEd class, and you will hate having to go to this class. DO NOT TAKE HER!.
DONT! JUST DONT! She speaks so slow. I took her at 8 am and I could hardly stay awake. She counts off for the smallest thing and never gives grades back. If she's the only one that fits your schedule, take it the next semester with someone else. I didn't know my grade until grades came out and that was after going to her office many times.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. She is by FAR the worst professor I have ever had. She talks extremely slow and assigns tons of unnecessary homework. She is annoying and doesn't ever give back any graded work. Just horrible.
The class isn't very interesting. Every speech has to follow extremely strict guidelines, and the group project was a huge grade and many of us found it was hard to schedule to meet outside of class. Mrs. Phillips can be flexible and understanding, but the class just isn't interesting at all. The work load is tolerable.
This teacher was awful. I do not recommend you take her. She isn't very helpful and she makes things really confusing to understand. She also grades REALLY hard. In each speech she makes sure you say word for word what you say in your outline. I think this was a pointless class and definitely didn't help me any at all. Do not take her at all.
DO NOT TAKE HER UNLESS YOU WANT TO DO USELESS WORK! She treats her class like it isn't a Gen Ed class. She assigns far too much work for to little of a grade. I did more work in her class than I did in any other! She grades hard, talks WAY too slow, and WILL put you to sleep. Good luck!
Ms. Phillips is a good professor, but the class is pretty awful. There's so much useless work. Nothing too difficult, just time consuming. There's an online quiz before almost every class. The tests are only for participation points, and there are lots of opportunities for bonus points, but be prepared to work for your grade.
Ms. Philips was fine, except for the fact that she hasn't updated grades and the final is in two days. She has not put in any major assignments, and everyone could be failing and not even know. She doesn't explain things in class, she just expects you to know it. She is not flexible and does not give clear directions on anything unless you ask.
Prof. Phillip's class has a lot of "busy-work." You have to do your work in order to receive a decent grade in her class. Make sure you have questions ready for class, and GO TO HER OFFICE to get help on your outlines before you turn it in. I don't personally recommend taking her class if you can; however, I was well prepared for the final.
Professor Phillips was a good professor, but the class was an overload, there was so much due in this class!
There's a lot of little busy assignments to do if you ask for help and see her during office hours she is willing to help. She is a very tough grader on major assignments. Prepare and do well on all the quizzes and the one paper. The two speeches are graded very tough though. A lot of work at the beginning of the semester. Group projects though.
Go to all of the bonus opportunities. It is needed because she is a very tough grader and it will be needed if you're 2 percentages away from an A. The final was pretty easy. There will be group assignments, also. One bad thing was that she didn't add major assignments until after the final and my grade dropped.
Her communication class is tough and you have to put in A LOT of work to keep a solid B. She assigns a lot of busy work. Workbook is mandatory, I wouldn't take again, her class just drags.
There were very few points given in class which made it hard to pull my grade back up after receiving a few bad grades. Very tough grader on outlines and speeches. Tests are for participation, but you need to keep up so you're not overwhelmed on the final. Would not take again.
Terrible professer! She uses personally feelings to grade speeches and writings. If she hates your topics she WILL fail you without any questions. She assigns a lot of homework and talks super slow and does not help you when asked. I will never take her again.
Ms. Phillips is a GREAT teacher. She explains projects really well and answers any questions you have about them. There are a lot of assignments to do, especially online. If you miss a few of those, you have to try and dig your way out. There are a lot of papers to do and print out, but they're fairly straight forward. They're just time consuming.
Ms. Phillips (No R, Two Ls) was a pretty cool teacher since the only homework we had was extremely easy and there were only a couple papers we had to write. She is a little cheesy with her jokes, but she is nice! Take a TR class if you want to get out of class early btw!
She puts in zeros for assignments without any explanation even if you completed them. If you like to log onto Blackboard & have a heart attack when you look at your grade, TAKE HER. She's great at assigning homework 5 hours before it's due when it's an assignment that takes over an hour to complete & you have work that afternoon. SHE DOES NOT CARE.
You HAVE to read the book (there are online quizzes over each chapter due before class). There are NO TESTS except the final exam. There are only 2 speeches throughout the semester. Ms. Phillips tends to be kind of boring, but she genuinely cares and is easy to talk to. Very understanding.
Ms. Phillips is a very good teacher. She explains everything very simply and is willing to help out a student in need. Its very important that you read the book and do all of the work assigned. The work is super easy, but it can bring your grade down if you dont keep up with it. Shes very funny and understanding of any difficulty.
She likes to reference like Big Bang Theory and Supernatural in her teaching. She makes the topic fun and isn't super uptight about dressing nice for presentations. She is super understanding and you can definitely talk to her. Just keep up with blackboard because she posts the weekly plan and it helps a lot.
This class was not hard at all. Tests were online and were participation points. There are two speeches but the first speech is just an evaluation of a source for your final speech. If you have any questions, she is readily available by email or in her office. If you skip so many TR classes (not sure for MWF) she will drop you from the class.
Ms. Phillips' class is heavily on homework, attendance, and assignments. We had two presentations in class. I had her at 8am and didn't mind it. Her class drags on sometimes but she tries to make it fun. She's super caring and accessible outside of class. I enjoyed this class!
She is so caring, when I took her this past semester I had a lot happen and shes working with me to make sure I pass her class with the grade I want. She gives two speeches and a final exam, and the extra credit she gives helps. I truly loved her and enjoyed taking her class
Hardest Gen Ed class you can take. Principles of communication is supposed to be an easy A/B but prof Phillips grades as if it were a third year astrophysics course at Yale. Ted-Talk caliber speeches will maybe earn you a high C. Like 2-3 learning curves every week. No other course has them. She wont round your final grade. 6 absences & ur dropped
She doesn't have in-class tests. It's all about the speeches and online assignments. There are extra credit opportunities outside of class. Follow the study guide in the comm book and you'll get an A. She takes attendance so go to class. It's not a very interesting class and I felt like it was useless but I needed it. Take her if you want an easy A
Tami gives you a million assignments and doesn't tell you what she's expecting or when it's due until it's due in 2 days. She is super vague about everything. It's really just a guessing game. She wastes time in class and gives a ton of assignments to do out of class. You have to attend class or you will fail.
She is a great choice, this course is a breeze. She gives multiple opportunities for extra credit and makes communication a interesting concept.
Her Principles of Communication class was alright. It was an easy A but be prepared for the speech you will have to give in front of the class. There is an online quiz for each chapter in the book and it isnt hard but will take a lot of time to do. As for Professor Phillips, she was nice and caring and answers every question you might have.
I felt like I was going into debt to watch Netflix. She's very vague in what she wants, she treats you like a kindergartener... I hated every second I was in that class.
For a communication class, Ms. Phillips does not communicate very well. She is very vague on what she wants on her assignments, yet she's a very tough grader. She was also rude to quite a few of my classmates, and fairly unresponsive when asked for feedback. Her class wasn't hard, but it wasn't good.
The presentation you give at the end sucks. It is a lot of work leading up to it and is time consuming. She does give lots of bonus points throughout the semester though.
The textbook for this course was online, and a lot of this course is self-taught. Take notes on your final study guide as you read because it will put you ahead in the class. She is a funny person and very sweet, but sometimes unclear with her grading criteria.
She was kind and informative. The one downside of this course is that there's a TON of work, especially during the first 5-6 weeks of class. There's extra credit, but you have to do quite a bit to get it. I'd take this course again, you just have to stay on top of your assignments and do your work.
She talks so slow that I glaze over what she is saying. Homework is time consuming, as well as her assignments. Bonus is offered, but is very long assignments for little points. Final presentation is 7 minutes long, and tons of assignments to build final presentation. Class is basically self taught through online textbook. She is funny sometimes!
Just take any other communications professor, and you will be fine! Most of my friends took other professors and had no issues. They did 3 speeches and one easy final one. Phillips claims to write the criteria for this course, but either nobody follows it, or that is inaccurate. I am pre-med, and her class was the most stressful!!
If I could rate her in the negatives, I would! If you like to have unclear explanations and stress over a required class more than your difficult major courses, please take her class. Otherwise, save your mental health and take this course from ANYONE ELSE! If you have anxiety or depression, she will test your mental health limits.
I would absolutely NOT recommend her to anyone if you care about your mental health. She has caused me over 5 panic attacks. She is vague and the hardest grader I have ever. When asked for feedback,I was not given any answers. She does give some extra credit, but it take so long and she grades it hard.
She's a really tough grader. She was very nice and understood the material well. We had to do a LOT of projects and papers for her class. Take EVERY opportunity to get extra credit, even if you don't think you need it.
She was a good professor, and I really wanted to like this class, but I had it at 9am so it was very quiet, and I did not want to be there. She is a very approachable person, and she is super understanding! If you get to choose your communications teacher, I would recommend!
Worst prof ever. She does not communicate well whatsoever. If you want to do assignments that are worth 10 points but take you hours to do. Take her class. She reads straight from her PowerPoints or the online text book. Unclear explanations and heavy grading. She yaps the whole time in class and gives a ton of assignments to do out of class.
She doesn't go over the textbook much in lecture even though the final is over the textbook only. The only time we learned actual material is through the 10 point assignments that took way too long to do. She is very nice, but the high point assignments were graded hard and the final wasn't related to anything we did in the class.
I really liked her class, but I must say the lectures really just went over the book. She does have everything outlined clearly and has very clear instructions, so it's very hard to fail most assignments. The final presentation was difficult but the final exam wasn't. It definitely felt like a lot of big point assignments dictated your grade.
Ms. Phillips has set up this class so that nobody should fail unless they just want to. She lets you redo assignments and she is super kind. She is always looking at her email and almost always in her office for students come in and ask questions. The final presentation isn't super hard.
I wouldn't recommend taking her. The class is supposed to be beneficial and it honestly wasn't. The topics are not talked about in a way that makes sense on the final exam. She also doesn't really engage with the class.
If you come into this class as a freshman and don't know how to use Blackboard, you are done for. She has no sense of care in her void, 2009-top-text-bottom-text-meme heavy soul. She counted off 27 points on my presentation because I didn't include something she only mentioned one time in class that couldn't be accessed again afterwards.
She is very strict about late submissions. There were 2 assignments were I missed the deadline by 5 minutes and still got 15% of my points taken off. She offers a lot of bonus assignments. When presenting, you will get points taken off for going over the time limit and points taken off for anything not covered within the time limit. Passive lady.
The professor is sweet but a little weird. The class was pointless because the final exam was based solely off the 17 chapters in the textbook that wasn't covered. She grades really hard and you get points off for not showing up to class. Assignments take hours and there are several. I had to redo an assignment because she didn't like my opinion
the professor herself was okay, thats about it. the hw assignments are super long, the presuaive outline i had to redo 6 times cuz she didnt like my opinion. the final is 150 point muliple choice test, its over 17 chapters that she DOESNT cover in class, shell just do a "wrap up"
