Fun Class

Professor Azuma puts a lot of effort into her powerpoint presentations and as a result, I think, expects you to put in the same kind of effort. She was one of the best professors I've had at ASU, I really enjoyed both SHS350 & SHS367. Go to all the lectures and take good notes and you should be set.

EXCELLENT lectures- very clear, excellent examples and very entertaining. No textbook for her classes- so GO TO CLASS! She expects you to put as much effort into studying as she does into her lectures. If you do- it's well worth it. Only negative is that she can be very unresponsive to emails. :(

Dr. Azuma is my favorite professor. As she says, her tests are hard but fair. GO TO CLASS!! Besides being a GREAT speaker, her lectures are fun, engaging, and meaningful. She is an asset to the S&H department and to ASU. We are VERY lucky!

Great teacher, her class is difficult but fair. I got a bad grade but didn't feel cheated. Ask for help she will give all she can to help a student(rare in a university). She is very smart and not at all full of herself. Stay on top of the class lectures, work, and reading and you can score well on her tests. Did I mention she's a great teacher?

This is the best teacher I have ever had. I wish she was my teacher for every subject. She gives you everything you need to study. It is not easy, but she is VERY fair. There is a lot of information, but she tells you everything you need to know. Examples are right out of the book, and study guides are very helpful. She also makes class fun.

She is the greatest. I enjoy coming to class because she makes it interesting. Even if you might not be into the subject you have to love her stories and the effort she puts forth in her lectures. Come to class, take notes, read the book and you will score decent on her tests. She grades fair.

Yes, the SHS department is lucky to have her because she is the only person that closely resembles an educator in the department. Great teaching doesnt encompass endless note taking. You will be successful if you memorize all the notes and regurgitate the info on her high stakes test in a way you've never actually practiced in class. Good luck!

Best Professor! Make sure you go to class and take notes. Her tests are mostly based on the class notes. She is entertaining and very intelligent. She knows her stuff and is very fair. Best professor in the speech and hearing science department by far.

The best professor in the SHS department! HIGHLY recommended! Lectures are very interesting. She really knows how to convey the information in a way that you can apply it. Tests are pretty easy as long as you study. You don't really need to read your textbook, so don't buy it unless you're a textbook person. Overall, a really fun class! :)

I have never learned so much in one class before. She is a great teacher, very clear, and awesome. The class in general can be hard; however, she helps you so much and goes above and beyond. I wish she could teach all the shs classes!

This course is quite difficult. The material is presented very straight forwardly but you MUST put the work in, if you want to succeed. Pro. is amazing and entertaining! Loved the course but had to work my butt of for every test! Tests are hand graded and completely fair! It's worth it and you will not regret taking this course!

This course is so amazingly wonderful! The prof is way knowledgeable on everything about the brain and she makes memory and cognition fun and interesting. This class was very infromational. She is very entertaining and makes it fun. Yes her tests are challenging but if you study and really understand and ATTEND EVERY CLASS, you will do great. I think that when people complain about doing poorly it's bc they didn't put enough study time into it. Their fault not the teachers!

This was one of my favorite classes ever! Her lectures are interesting and she tells you everything you need to know for the exams in lecture. Listen and take good notes and you won't ever have to read the book. She hand grades exams and is extremely fair. In class activities so you have to attend class.

Professor Azuma is incredibly helpful & makes her lectures interesting. I never get bored in her classes! You have to attend to do well on the tests because she doesn't put powerpoints on blackboard but it is well worth going. I'm not sure I would understand the material if she didn't explain it so well. I highly recommend this professor!

Professor Azuma adds bits of humour to the lectures, and doesn't bog down the slides with blocks of text. If you pay attention in class, and use the study guides to study for the tests, you should get a good grade.

I am obsessed with this teacher! She is seriously the best lecturer I've ever had. She really knows her stuff and is hilarious. She is very generous on grading but if you study the material you will do just fine on the exams. Her homework is easy and helps you learn the material.

Dr. Azuma is an excellent teacher. Did decently well in the class just off of lecture notes but my biggest mistake was not buying the book... She makes it pretty clear what info you need but she rarely puts up her ppts so the book is good if you ever have a sloppy note-taking day. Really upbeat, makes the class interesting, and you truly learn.

Fun, interesting class and a great teacher. She actually uses the concepts she teaches about language processing & memory to make her slides better. She doesn't bombard you with info. but you'll retain what you learned. Attend every lecture & take clear notes on PAPER (not a laptop) and you'll get an A. Don't buy the book, you won't need it.

Professor Azuma is MARVELOUS! She's probably the best professor I have taken at ASU. She would spent so much time on the tests and add points afterwards if everyone didn't do great on something. AMAZING! Loved this class. She makes lecture interesting and pauses after she talks to let you write notes down. This is the ONLY class that I've ever felt kinda sad that it was over after the last lecture of the semester! Make sure you STUDY for the tests though. Lots of fill in the blank with NO word bank! This class was interesting and the lectures were mostly upbeat and hardly ever boring. Dr. Azuma gets pretty pumped about the subject and it can be contagious. Tests are fill in the blank and she grades rather leniently for those who put effort into their responses. The weekly homework assignments (in place of Friday lectures) are easy points.

Dr. Azuma is an amazing teacher! I highly recommend taking her class. She's animated and keeps lectures fun. Instead of coming to class on Fridays, she has students complete online modules. Exams are multiple choice and fill in the blank, but if you come to class and take notes, they're fairly easy.

She does not post powerpoints, though, so it's best you go to class since the book does not go into as much detail about the content as she does. I really enjoyed taking this class with Azuma! Right away I could tell she cares a lot about her students' success and puts a lot of effort into the content. Tests are easy as long as you take notes in class. HW is interactive and fun. She is always available to answer questions & she explains things simply enough so that anyone can understand.

Prof. Azuma was amazing! Her lectures are very well thought out as are her homework assignments and tests. If you are willing to attend class, study, and do the homework you will succeed in this course. It is not a class for the lazy but she makes a good grade very attainable.

Professor Azuma really sets the bar high when it comes to SHS professors at ASU. She is caring and funny and is always doing something to help better her student's understanding of the material. This was an interesting class and the courseload wasn't overwhelming.

Dr. Azuma is by far one of my favorite SHS professors so far. She was very spunky and funny and kept me interested in the material nearly all semester. She's very practical on what you need to know and communicates exactly what she'll put on the test. The best part was that she mad class-time on Friday's optional for extra credit.

OPTIONAL FRIDAYS!!! Don't let this being a MWF class discourage you, it's twice a week for 50 minutes with Friday's for 1/2 point extra credit. She is so straight forward and knows so much on the subject. You will never get bored. She is quirky and funny and has so much to offer.

Dr Azuma is the best. The class is organized to help you learn while you sit there. Shes very knowledgeable and clear. She is quirky and fun! Fridays are optional she gives XC for them. Even if this is not your major you wont regret taking her class. It was my favorite this semester (and Im taking 18 credits!). Tests follow classes!

Dr. Azuma is my favorite professor i have had at ASU. Her lectures are so easy to follow and it is actually fun to go to class. She does not require you go to Friday class, but instead has online modules due every Sunday. Her tests are fairly easy and she wants you to succeed, but you have to go to class to get her powerpoints. TAKE HER CLASS!

This class is three days per week but you are not required to go on Fridays. They are for extra credit which is nice. I never attended Friday lecture and still got an A-. The lectures are good and it is easy to take notes and prepare for exams. The Dr. Azuma is also a sweetie.

Dr. Azuma was an amazing professor!! I really enjoyed taking her class. The only thing is that if you don't study, you probably wont do very well on the exams. Half the tests are fill in the blanks. and. Unfortunately. theres a cumulative final. But even with that she makes the class so fun and relatable. Would take this again!!

Meaning that she doesn't provide you with a lot of unnecessary information on the powerpoint presentation and she pauses between explanations to give you a chance to take notes and to pay attention to her. Book isn't necessary b/c prof covers everything in her lectures and fun/low-stakes assignments. PPTs are NOT shared w/stds, so show up, take good notes, and study for FIB and short answer tests.

This is one of the best professors I've had at ASU. Dr. Azuma's lectures were interesting and fun, and a lot of effort was put into them. I definitely did better on my exams than other classes because my notes were well organized (thanks to her lecture slides). You can tell she is very passionate about what she teaches and cares about her students.

Dr. Azuma's lectures are interesting and will hold your attention! You can tell that she cares about her students - sometimes that's hard to come by. She even brought candy into class for Halloween. Make sure that you attend the lectures and take good notes, because she does not post her slides to Canvas!

Interesting lectures. Goes at a good pace, makes sure everyone has the notes down before moving on. Friday is an optional recap class. Weekly online homework (combo of videos + small assignments), but it doesn't take too long. Final grade = 20% online assignments + 3 mid-terms, 1 final (20% each). Mid-terms were closed book, final was open book.

Dr Azuma is awesome! I find the material interesting already but she makes her lectures really fun to come to. She doesn't take attendance but lectures/slides aren't available on canvas so you have to be there or else you'll miss material. If you go to class and do the online modules (you get multiple attempts) you will be fine.

This professor is SO FUN. The class I took was a MWF class but Friday classes were optional! She is very interactive and takes breaks when we take notes so everyone can write down the important information. If you are thinking about taking this class DO IT. I would take it again if I could. Weekly online assignments posted on Canvas and four tests.
