Great course, interesting prof who knew her stuff!
Somewhat arrogant professor. Group work essays are an improper means of evaluating one's knowledge in the course.
I did well in the course, but I found she was very intimadating. My friends and I were afraid we'd get murdered if we ever went to her for help. I enjoyed the course though, it was very interesting. Tests were pretty good. Group work? Dumb.
Easy badboy.. shes not hot.. shes big and funny looking. I just took the course because i heard it easy. imma post u guys up after the 10 page essay sometime in nov.
I think Tammy is an amazing teacher that knows where to draw the line between "holding" your hand and teaching you. She is NOT as intimidating as people think, and she has definitely helped me out. She is fair and I think she's brilliant! I like
The course is as straight forward as ca be but I dont like the way Tammy teaches it. She doesn't stick to the material and keeps trying to teach media and sociology rather then justice. Do your job honey!
Intimidating appearance and felt like an elementary school teacher. Wouldn´t arrange meeting to discuss grades - unprofessional!
Tammy is a very insightful prof. She is very clear and has kept me quite interested.
Clear and fairly interesting, but she definitely has a chip on her shoulder. Seems to be biased towards male students, but that is just my opinion.
I loved the course material but I thought she could have taught it better. Overall, she was okay, I've had worse. Her tests were very hard, but she marked the essays pretty fairly. To do well in this class you must memorize the text book! :)
Me again, The essay, was garbage, the whole course is garbage. She seems to like marijuana as see talks about it all the time. Dont take it unless u dont want an exam at the end. Garbage. I even think shes a lesbian... Her leather vest kills it.
This professor has no idea as to what she is talking about. DOn't even bother putting your hand up because she talks right over you.
Was a decent prof... very nice. Course was easy but she made it alittle harder then it had to be.
A good teacher overall. She shows quite a few movies, which you can skip if you want. Essay is tough and requires you to write 7-10 pages on theories and is worth 30%. Lots of reading and you have to keep up with it or you will get screwed on the final. One of the best elective's to take.
This lady is very intimidating. Her tests are hard! You think mutiple choice would be easy but it's not.
Tammy is a great prof. You always know what to expect from her. She isn't tricky or hard to get along with. Overall, she knows her field and it is reflected in her lectures.
If you do your part (reading- not cramming- text), and pay attention, you can be sure that her part- teaching and lecturing- will be effective. Saying a 7 page essay is too much are the words of someone that doesn't belong in university. You're in in high school anymore. She's a fair marker and comments. Marked more easily than I thought she would.
Hated this class. was excited abotu taking it and then i hated it. tammy does not know how to teach she takes the easy way out and she showed a film every single class to get out of teaching. Obviously she had no clue about anything about the course. It was a big waist of time and money I ended up dropping the course
How come I watched more movies in her class than my film classes. Do not waste your time on Tammy's classes. Avoid them at all possible costs. She is biased towards males, because no way a male will get an A in this class. If course is required I would try to get Tammy fired first and than take the course.
very interesting. did not show movies every class, but did show them often, which is a good, different way to learn rather than just lecturing the whole time. worthwhile class, and she is not **** at all.
great prof. always know what to expect, I would take another one of her classes without hesitation
one of the worst professors at ryerson
Fussy about lateness, easily bothered during lecture.
She's pretty straightforward. Didn't use the textbook. She provided all the notes. We did no projects or presentation which sections from other professors did. I'm a guy and I gfound her alright, taking CRM202 with her again.
Definitely the WORST professor i've ever had! She went out of her way to make sure that you are miserable if you do something that she does not like. I think its completely understandble for a prof to find people talking and making noises during their class disturbing and rude, but the extent to which she made you pay, IS ridiculous.AVOID HER!
She was the worst prof ever. The text is HER research. She did not provide reviews, claimed there was no time however, we never stayed for a full class. She was rude and unhelpful & completely unorganized. We had no idea what our marks were going into our exams. She was very easily disturbed and crude. Do not recommmend.
This was a course that studied things I was really interested in; unfortunately the lectures were basically just statistics presentations. The tests were MC and really hard and she was a hard marker. I don't recommend taking the course if you're looking for high marks as opposed to just taking it because it interests you.
bad attitude
A great professor. Very interesting lectures and course material. Has a lot of expertise in the field!
A very good professor. Easy to do well in her class. The group participation is a great idea. She is very amazing compared to professor Varma
Attend each class and read her notes, most questions in the tests come from there.
She is a bad professor, asked her various questions and never gave a clear answer. Marks horribly. An A student got a B- because of her useless groupwork.
She has a bad attatude and she gets mad easily if youcome in late. It looks like an easy course, but the exams are pretty hard, especially her multiple choices.
shes a horrible prof, didnt learn anything in her class, A student got a C
Always seems to shoot down people who answer her questions in lectures, and then wonders why no one wants to put their hand up. It is also very distracting when she stops lecturing if someone comes in late too call them out and make them feel embarrassed. Overall boring course.
Shes the worst prof, she doesnt answer any questions when asked and refuses to post marks. A student also got C. can't stand her voice.
Okay lectures, sometimes interesting, but marks, imo, unfairly. She's a bit intimidating to approach. The tests were not easy, but not too insanely difficult. Some of the questions, though, were written poorly that it came off as a tricky.
Very interested in the idea of the course, but she ruined it for me. Lectures are statistic presentations, and the midterm/final were things were briefly touched on in class. Basically a guessing game in her class. Marks unfairly and does not provide clear and concise feedback/directions on assignments.
Definitely knows her material. She is willing to help you if you are having problems with anything, not a hard marker as long as you have a basic concept of what is going on in class. Exams not too difficult, fair marker for papers.
Very, very nice person. She makes concepts very clear and uses a lot of examples in her lectures. As long as you understand the basics of the course material you'll do well, although sometimes the wording on her exams is hard to understand. She has no problem clarifying though. I would definitely take another of her classes again.
You will have 2 tests, not a midterm. Non-cumalitive. And for the exam you will have a take home essay, due near the end of exam week. She will give you the assignment in the last week. Also, for the tests, it's mult choice and short answers. Great prof, loved her class. Didn't like her at first but she seems fair. Fair marker, just study.
I don't really understand why everyone is saying she is intimidating...she always smiled in class and was extremely approachable. Her marking was extremely fair as she would give the glass perfect on many of our group work sessions that we ran out of time for. That pretty much raised each persons mark by 2-3%. Landau is a great professor.
Recently finished this sem with her. One: go to class because she talks alot and everything she says is on the tests. TWO: read the txtbook if you want extra good marks on your tests. THREE: very nice on a personal level, makes the class soooo dry however her teaching is very well. Ended up getting an 85% on the take home essay.
I LOVED her. She was always super nice and a fairly easy marker when it came to the ONE (and only one) assignment we had as well as the two tests that we had. She was very clear on what she asked and also provided us with sufficient help when we would approach her. On that, she was extremely easy to approach and super nice! I miss her already!
She is a nice prof, has a most information in her presentations (a summary of what is in the book), she explains a lot. However, when it comes to tests, the way she phrases the questions or paraphrases the answers in multiple choice, most of it is a guessing game, many tricky questions. And her written assignment marking is a bit hard.
Avoid her classes, they're very boring, half of what is taught in class are not on the exams. Exam questions are ambiguous and are a guessing game. Dislikes questions and doesn't offer helpful feed back. Not approachable. I normally get an A or B- in courses, I'm almost going to fail her class.
She teaches well, and marks fair in assignments; however, her tests are written poorly and unfairly.
Go to class. Take down notes to add onto her detailed power points. Do readings for more clarity. Also ensure that your essay and short answers for her tests are refer to lecture material. As long as you memorize and understand all key concepts and follow her instruction you can attain an A:)
Absolutely horrible and worst professor ever. She will not help you. Her exams are extremely tough and you will not get over 70%. Her lectures are boring and she makes you buy a textbook that she has written. Basically, she makes money off those textbooks too. Every semester she changes few words in her textbook and scams new students into buying.
Professor Tammy Landau is really clear in class ,but when it comes to her exams I know even if I study I'm not going to get a good mark because her tests are so tricky. It's the second semester I'm taking her class and I haven't gotten in a test more than a c. She tries to make the tests more challenging, which do not help in gaining knowledge.
Lecture's lack enthusiasm, and the exams are not at all what you would expect. Essays questions can literally be about anything, and are never about things you focused on in class. Her textbook is clearly a cash grab, and you can't resell it because she changes it slightly each term. Overall would recommend you not take her class at all costs.
She is so hard and so rude as well and all we did was watch videos which was not so bad but the videos were so old and boring as hell... this class gives me nightmares DO NOT TAKE IT
Explains concepts concisely and returns emails promptly. Some people may find Landau intimidating because she's straightforward and to the point, but she has a good sense of humor and is very approachable. She's very engaged and passionate about the material. I have no idea who these other people below are talking about!
I had crm 202 (2012) and finished with an A-. Just write down what she says in class and read the txtbook for extra points. the tests are poorly written and she has become a huge feminist. Use her slides as extra notes and do not only rely on them.
worse prof everrrrrr not helpful at all I'm currently taking this course she just copy paste from the book into her slides very hard marker if this is ur required course try not to take with her she never thought this course before and doesn't know what to say in the class
She is a good professor. You just have to attend the lectures and listen in class. The textbook this semester was useful because we used it but last year, when I had her, it wasn't useful and I got a B+. The class and the movies are kinda boring but its fairly an easy course.
If you can find someone else to teach you this course DO IT. Tammy is SO rude and very arrogant. Asking her a question or for help seems like the worst possible thing a person could do to her. God forbid. 'No question is a dumb question' does not apply in her classroom. Avoid at all costs.
I am an B+ to A student and I am in Criminology. Horrible marker, have received by lowest grades in university in this course, which should not be difficult at all whatsoever. Tests are not straight forward.
I have had Tammy for three CRM courses and although she is clear and concise in her lectures, her exams are bit difficult ... but CRM204 was not bad at all, no ESSAY ... articles and you have to answer some questions based on the article, midterm was open ended questions, final multiple choice and open ended questions, did much better on the final.
Her classes may seem long because all she does is literally read off of her powerpoint or we watch documentaries. But her exam is literally based on her ppts which she posts online. She's an easy marker and I've never received better help when needed from a prof before. She may seem like a snob, but in the end, it's worth it.
Great prof if you dont show up to class, lectures are straight from the slides which are directly from the textbook. Ironically i found she marks waaay easier on the assignment than the exams but the exams are fairly marked. MC is brutally specific but essay questions were pretty broad. She is very helpful with questions outside of class
She may be one of the most boring humans on this planet, and her lectures reflect this. But I respected her as a prof because she was straightforward, fair, and it was evident that she was passionate about crm. I went to 2 or 3 lectures and ended with an A- because her ppt are all you really need. Very fair tests but not easy.
She is a very hard marker. I found this kind of frustrating because I did not understand why she grades as if we were all graduate students even though most of the people in her CRM100 classes are fresh out of high school. The subject material is interesting, but I think she has to remember who she is teaching.
Honestly, her lectures aren't too, basically your average university lecture. She appears clear in her lectures but her exams + lectures don't add up, even if you've done the reading. She's vague on what she expects and vague when you visit during office hours too. She's really not great at all, overall.
She is a good teacher, but rude when you talk to her. She sometimes makes students feel stupid for asking questions. Her slides are very brief so it's important to show up to class. She shows a lot of videos/films in class that are likely going to be on the tests, so don't fall asleep!
Terrible teacher. Was extremely rude and a tough marker.
Quite simply, on a personal level, she sucked all my interest from Criminology out of me in a matter of 12 weeks. Understand that this is my opinion but be ready for notes read off a powerpoint and a monotone voice. She's also not afraid to stop the class to point out students' (otherwise considered normal) behaviour (i.e. coughing).
Many small group assignments that attendance is mandatory for.
Her slides are very concise and contain key info from the readings. A tough marker on assignments, but very easy for group work.
I just finished my degree but holy cow, this was a horrible ending. This is by far the worst professor I had in my entire experience at Ryerson. She is the spitting definition of the mockery of a SJW. She's only interested in hearing herself blab about her own opinions (stated as fact) and gets horribly offended by every little thing.
After reading her ratings, I was terrified for her class, despite the negative comments I really liked her. She is definitely not rude, and will respect you if you respect her. Her multiple choice is very tricky, however her assignment is very clear. She tells you exactly what she wants, and if you do as she says you will receive your A.
I honestly do not understand why her ratings are bad. Honestly her midterm was brutal in the sense that it was very tricky, however her assignment is extremely clear, she literally tells you exactly what she wants which was great. extremely fair when grading papers. Class is definitely not an easy A, but its not impossible. overall GREAT PROF!
Do not take this class with her. She is not helpful when it comes to anything and does not provide feedback for the hard marking that she does. One good thing is that she posts detailed slides, but other than that, avoid her class. If you don't write specifically what she has in mind, it will be marked wrong. VERY HARD MARKER and also not very nice
Good slides, tough grader though. She is passionate about what she teaches but be prepared to blindly agree with her viewpoints on your homework and papers for better marks. She knows her subject though, and if you show and follow her guidelines, you should be able to grab an A- at the least. Bonus: Pay attention to her films!!
The assignments do not make sense. We ask for clarification and negotiation space but she won't budge. Not accommodating. She thinks she is better than most people and that her opinion is right. Not very flexible to other opinions and arrogant and has this attitude that she is better than other people, she has her favors and put down other students
I was scared to take her class because of the bad reviews but I loved her. She is brilliant and inspirational. I loved having my seminar with her on wrongful convictions. It was so interesting and I learned a lot. She pushed us and challenged us. Get ready to work. Got an A+. Really a great prof and a great person.
would 100% recommend taking her seminar course, probably one of my favourite courses so far.. very inspiring and her integration of documentaries really enhances the learning process
would 100% recommend taking her seminar course, probably one of my favourite courses so far
Prof Landau knows what shes talking about. She posts her lectures before hand which is very helpful, but goes over them with more information during. So i wouldnt suggest skipping because you already have the notes. Her tests were fair, and the only assignment was as well.
The slides she posts outline basically everything you need to know, just use those when studying. Barely used the textbook so don't buy it and readings aren't exactly necessary. Watch the videos she shows in class tho cuz she had a few questions about those on the exams.
Lectures are posted before class which makes it easier for students. Do not skip classes because they are additional verbal notes which are very helpful when studying. The amount of tests/assignments are reasonable however she is a bit of a tough grader.
Trash class! Final course for my degree and we watched Making a Murderer and listened to student presentations. She almost never lectured and was rude during presentation. Terrible prof avoid if possible
Professor is very condescending and belittles students.
-Very rude -Gets angry at students constantly - Very patronizing -Cuts people off -Doesn't take pride almost seems like a choir communicating with students -Not someone I ever want to have a course with again and would suggest staying away from this course and any other courses she is the professor of.
Terrible professor and gets offended over even little small thing whether it be what someone said or some full grown adult leaving class early upsetting her. She finds it upsetting and gets heated when adults make the decision to leave class. Seems like a high school teacher rather than professor.
She's very rude and unpleasant which makes it difficult to stay engaged during lectures & look forward to going to class. She often makes sassy remarks toward students' answers when they participate and when students ask questions, she answers in a condescending tone. Her behaviour made me dread going to class. Lectures are boring too. never again
She has no sympathy and does not care if you are upset about the grade you received cause she thinks what she said was right and only her.
Hard grader and there were only a few test and due to that they were worth a lot each.
Tammy is a bit abrasive but warrantably the behaviour of the class was far worse than any other course I've been in. There were only 3 tests graded so it was difficult to come back from blunders. For the final she provided a list of questions that had the possibility to be on the exam so there was no surprises with the content. Many long readings.
She is kinda strict but overall she is a great teacher. As long as you show up to class and are actually trying she's nice. Only gets mad when you're obviously slacking. Easy material. Exams are very straight forward. She posts all lecture slides if you're absent. Accommodating as she offers help outside of regular office hours.
Good professor. There were three tests in total, and all the questions were things from the slides or the videos. For our final exam, she gave us a list of questions that would be on the exam to study, which decreased the amount of stress for the exam.
Professor Landau is kinda strict with her grading on tests/exams however she provides all the material you need for each test/exam since they're all based on the slides that are posted for each class. She enjoys engagement with the class and is detailed during her lectures. DO YOUR READINGS!!
Not sure why she has many negative ratings, her lectures although text-heavy, were informative and diverse in its teaching. She makes it clear what will appear on midterms and exams and emphasizes the need to study slides and readings from the textbook. She may be a bit stricter in her teaching, but what good crim teacher isn't??
At the end the struggle was worth it, got a decent mark because she posted the final questions, but in lectures she was absolutely horrendous, yelling at grown adults for going to the washroom, etc. I wouldn't take her if i had the option to again, but she wasn't tooooooo too bad.
Good prof. Lectures were informative and was easy to understand. Tests and exams were fair and I actually enjoyed them. She can be sarcastic in a passive-aggressive way. It can be entertaining when there is a student that isn't cooperative, but it also made me hesitant to talk to her as it was unpredictable if she would react in a belittling way.
Very straight forward and understanding professor with easy to understand lecture slides. Lecture slides were posted and open to answering questions after and outside of class.
She is very knowledgeable, but you def need to pay attention, come to class and make sure to study! She knows what she is talking about and brings in guest speakers and has discussions on topics related to everyday life.
don't take this course with her, she's a harsh marker and will yell at you if you go to the bathroom or leave the class early if there's a video playing
Dr. Landau was nice to me but she is no doubt at times "snappy" and can be conscending to others which was just uncomfortable to watch but oh well. She knows what she's talking about for sure though. All her slides are posted which is incredibly convenient but going to lectures is for sure a great help since there are good class discussions.
Purely as a teacher, she does good at teaching and the tests are fairly made + marked. As a person tho, she's not afraid to call u out if she thinks ur being disrespectful in class (on ur phone, talking over her/a speaker, leaving class). Don't take it personally tho bc its usually not personal. If u get on her good side she can be really nice.
isn't clear on what she expects on tests but she thinks she is so she just chooses to ignore your question every time a question like that comes up.
talked to us like we were elementary school kids. doesnt care to give more information when asked, disrespectful and snappy when questions are asked in class, snotty to people who left just to go to the bathroom.
Avoid. Literally just reads off the slides. Super rude and antagonistic vibes also.
she was really scary and intense, and would often have really rude responses when students would ask questions. doesn't like when you get up and leave mid class, and makes it very clear. tests are marked really harshly because if you don't say exactly what she's thinking she marks it wrong. wouldn't take her class ever again
Not sure what these poor reviews are about. Very easy course and thats coming from someone with no crim background at all. Just went to class and listened to the lectures, the material is so straight forward that making notes isn't necessary. Class averages were around 60% somehow but she curved the first midterm to help which was nice.
Horrible. EXTREMELY antagonizing and pessimistic. only graded on 3 total tests including the final and midterm. Dont bother with the textbook. Will call you out if you leave mid lecture. She curves the first slightly. the average was 50-60%. AVOID IF POSSIBLE! went to all the lectures, read all the textbook chapters, took notes all for c+
this course is based on 3 tests in which she does not give you feedback on these tests to know what to improve. she literally yells at you if you ask a question, either about the test or in general! don't ever take this course with tammy, she will ruin you.
DONT TAKE HER
Mixed feelings towards this class. PRO: class ended early always, multiple choice and short essay format for tests, gave exam questions ahead of final. CON: read off the slides mostly, can be rude. If you pay attention, review main concepts, and engage with the material she presents, you will do fine.
Not a good prof, does not give you ANY feedback at all, her lectures were some what interesting but she grades like it costs her money. would not take again.
Prof. Landau has good intentions and high expectations. She's a hard marker and the readings can be long. She is fair, just tired of answering the same question multiple times. Go to class and watch the films she assigns. I'd recommend taking a different crim course if you're not a crim major unless you're super into crim stats and justice.
literally failed by 1% like bro couldn't round it up. anyways don't take this class if you value your mental health and sanity! :)
i've never hated a prof more. test 1 worth 25% test 2 worth 35% and a final worth 40%. the final was somewhat easy but she's disrespectful to students and constantly yells at people for simply going to the bathroom, which people had to do since she gives no breaks at all. don't take this class unless you enjoy getting yelled at and belittled.
ruined my whole uni experience and made me decide to switch university's all together. studied day and night for nothing. don't take. i hate her.
I took her class for my first year, first semester and boy was I deceived. Tammy treats her students like they are high school kids, gets pissy when people try and leave the class and makes snarky remarks. God forbid you ask a question, she will answer like you've done her a disservice.
Dr. Landau is super strict and expects a lot. Especially for a primarily first year course, she seemed to be so done with everyone and everything, and was really intimidating to students that were just starting uni. She has more of the vibe of a high school teacher as opposed to a prof. Her lecture slides and material overall are not great either
Looking at the ratings, Dr. Landau is different for seminar than for her other classes. She is very passionate about social justice, and very knowledgable. There wasn't a lot of items to be graded on, but I got 100 on the presentation and outline by following instructions. Wrongful convictions was a very interesting seminar.
Prof Landau, is rude, lecture's are boring, and god forbid you share a comment or ask a question, she shoots you right down and talks over you. Her tests are weighed heavy and you're only marked on 3 things. She acts more like a high school teacher then anything. She is extremely tough especially for a primarily first year course.
I'm taking this class currently and the professor is very stern and rude. Her vibe is completely just negative and she makes me not want to attend lectures.
Take Khan or Kholia. AWFUL.. literally when they say she acts like a hs teacher they're not lying. Very tough grader. 2 exam and a final exam worth 40%. Strong attitude
This class was not easy. The grading was hard to adjust to, but once you understand what she wants you're fine. She's strict and quite rude when upset during lectures, but all the slides are posted so attendance is not even mandatory. My guide to getting a good grade is over-explaining and knowing ALL concepts; not short-term memorization.
The class has two tests and a final exam. Material is posted and reads off the slides. I found the marking tougher than expected and the delivery style didn't work well for me, but some classmates preferred it. If you want alternatives, Khan or Kholia teach this course too.
