tammy is a good teacher. she has high expectations and you have to study alot. some of her test questions are not very clear. she is very young, so some in my class did not give her the respect that she deserved.
great instructor! makes a tough class doable!
This was one of the worst math teachers I had ever had. It was the first time she had taught a class that was over 20 students and she didn't know how to handle it. Most of the class lived out of the tutoring center before class to try and figure out her lecture notes and take home assignments. She was condesending when you'd ask her questions.
She hands out a lot of worksheets and assigns a lot of homework. She also assigns a essay that is very difficult to complete in the short time span she expects.
She has very high expectations that are difficult to reach.
Dont trust her! She will let you spend most of the term thinking that you are doing great, then two weeks before the final she will give you back your second midterm and explain that you are in trouble. She will smile to your face, but you ought to hear what she says about some of her students behind their backs. She also shows favoritism, giving e
This was the most stressful class I have had! It was really hard to grasp what she wanted from us. Exams were completely different from the notes, and the book was useless. It felt impossible to succeed, or know what to study! Tammy was very unhelpful. I think she needs a good 5 years of teaching under her belt to be any where close to a good teach
The worst math experience I have had since going back to school. Not organized, students correct her work on the board, not a lot of opportunities for points (tests and graded problems weighed 45% each), favoritism, put stuff on final she never went over, and does not hand back graded work in a timely manner. DO NOT TAKE HER!
This was quite possibly one of the hardest classes i had taken. She puts alot of expectation on you, a very hard grader, but in the end she taught to make us understand... that doesn't happen very often! I understood math alot more after taking her class. Take her if you need the math to transfer to a higher math class because you will get it
Tammie's totally hot. She's a good teacher and she'll help make sure your prepared for her exams and quizzes. She is an excellent teacher and gets my props. I give her an A+.
If you haven't taken math for some time, this is not the teacher to start off with. She has unreasonable expectations, and on top of that she's not helpful at all. She is really fast paced, hardly giving you any time to grasp the concept before jumps to the next chapter. If you are a full time student I would not suggest taking her class.
Do not take Louie. I wish someone had told me that. I've spoken to several people who, like my self, switched to a different instructor for these reasons- Louie:condescending, rushes through lessons, lacks experience, thinks she's being "tough" when really she's just creating a hostile and inadequate learning environment
Not satisfied. I assume that Tammy feels that everyone should grasp math as quickly as she did. I have never been that great at Math,-like many other students in a math 65 class-, but previous instructors helped me understand the concepts. Tammy never gave the chance to understand, she just bounced from concept to concept.
If having high expectations makes you a 'bad teacher', then yeah she's bad. But for those of us who are ambitious and work hard, Tammy is a bad-ass teacher. She holds you up to high standards and doesn't accept the usual pathetic excuses that so many junior college students dish out. Grow up and hit the books you haters!!!
Tammy is smart, energetic, attractive and personable. Her class will require you to study hard at home or with tutors to understand the material. She provides handouts, allows notes for exams and gives partial credit for answers. I believe this is fair for those who really try hard, but who's interest lie elsewhere. Always makes time for students.
If your whole class if failing to understand this teacher because she flies and bounces through lessons and leaves no time for questions, then it must not be the student(we can't all have lame excuses) If I am paying for a class, I should not have to use the internet or tutors to get my questions answered.
Tammy has very little patience and doesn't like to answer student's questions. Her typical response is go to the tutor center for help. She doesn't create a supportive learning environment at all and is very defensive and confrontational with students frustrations.
Tammy does not know how to run an class efficiently. She wastes time on handouts that leave students confused and without answers. She acts irritated if you ask her to solve a question on the board. She makes it impossible to know what to study for on exams and tests on material that was barely covered in class. I don't recommend taking her class.
there were lots group works and she'd spent too long on hang outs which were not helpful to the test. She allowed you to use the note card during test but I just didn't know what to write on since I had no idea of what to study for. Highly do not recommend this teacher to those who are not math wiz.
Tammy is really hard to understand. Her lectures are good and you think you got it down. However, when its time for the quiz or tests they are entirely different then what she lectured on. I would never recommend taking her!
Horrible. Reactive. Never completes handout in class, Notecards for test with no examples. First impression is correct. Very insucure so has to put on a front of who she thinks she is. Uses $5 words to help her convince herself she is who she think she is. Just not helpful. Oh ya, do this just because, you don't need a reason.
Difficult class except for completely math-minded people. Lots of folks dropped; not the prof's fault. She's helpful and will take time to talk to you and help you but you MUST spend tons of time on studying/homework.
Tammy is not an easy teacher, she will make you work. I hate math and I got a B. She is fair and very detailed in her teaching. You may not learn to love math with her, but you'll definitely learn to respect it. She was awesome!!
She is efficient but incredibly strict.
Tammy's teaching style wasn't one of my favorite's. I passed the class but the honest problem I had is that she is such a hottie that it makes it hard for me to pay attention to what she is teaching. She is by far the hottest math instructor I have ever seen.
The worst math teacher I've ever had. She is the epitome of all of the negative comments above and more. Will pretend to be helpful and smile while doing so but obviously has no concern for the wellbeing of her students. Do not take her.
Tammy is a nice person and very tough teacher. She'll help you learn math her way, but won't hesitate to spring things on you in tests or as the term wraps up. Keep all your homework organized, you have to turn it ALL in at the end in order to complete the extra credit. I don't plan to take classes with her in the future, but i learned a lot.
Tammy Louie is the best statistics teacher out of all of PCC's statistics teachers. She will gloss over some of the powerpoints. Don't be too shy to ask her to repeat herself if you need any clarification. Tammy wants all her students to be successful. She will help you if you seek out her assistance.
I was shocked to see that Tammie had negative comments on this site. From Day 1 I have been continually impressed by her organization and clarity. I am in the summer accelerated class (8 wks) and you must stay on top of the work. That's not a bad thing if you actually want to learn.
I'm probably having such a hard time with her because im taking her class in summer so she is super fast with everything and hasnt slowed down once. She is extremely forgetful, and makes far too many typos on all of her worksheets and tests. Her HW schedule is very hard to read if you have problems with small font. If math is easy i recommend her.
Tammy uses tests & quizzes as a learning tool: she consistently tests with unfamiliar types of problems, & problems above the level of complexity at which the class is taught. Quizzes almost every week. Her class must be your priority class to get an A. She is available for outside help, take her up on it as she's busy during class.
Tammy is fantastic. You will work hard and learn a lot.
Tammy is a great teacher- she actually explains mathematical concepts in a way that's easy to understand. She WILL make you work for your grade, which is awesome- I want my tuition's worth.
Top two math prof I've ever had! Failed math all my life took her class and I haven't received anything lower than a b+. If you struggle in math. Take her, it will all make sense.
I came here to check for my upcoming spring 2011 classes but saw Tammy's name and had to respond. I am in her MTH 112 course and failing (had to change to P/NP...the whole nine) I still say she's great! She will run with you if you're up for the jog. These few (few) folks speakin ill obviously never asked Tammy for help.
I took her for the calculator class and thought her classes were clear, structured and easy to follow. I actually worked my schedule around her class next term so she'd be my teacher. She is not easy, she won't let stuff slide and there will be a lot of work, but if you actually want to learn, not just pass, then she's a good choice.
super hard. unhelpful, demanding, obtuse, tests are super hard and 55% of final grade. her idea of a review is to give a quiz. can't be bothered to help students. obviously very good at math, expects everyone to be as natural as she is. out of a class of 38, 10 have As, 10 have Bs and almost everyone else is failing. do the math.
Here's the thing: I failed her class and I still say she's great! Just take it from me: trig is not the class to not learn from your mistakes. Here are my wrongs: THE SAUCE, barely writing down the exact steps of her help when she helped me and worst of all, NOT writing down the exact steps of just how to organize those few exact steps!
Tammie is a great teacher, she makes everything very clear and lays out the way she rolls early on. The term before I had taken 243 online and my teacher was the exact opposite and I couldn't stand having to search for hours to figure out what she was saying. Tammie is super organized and helful.
This isn't an easy class but I don't know if it would be no matter the instructor. Tammy is friendly and helpful if you visit during office hours, which I recommend. There are a lot of quizzes but she provides formulas which are needed.
Tammie is a great instructor; One of the few who actually helps you in class during her instructions for the day. She is friendly and I think she has a great method of teaching...it doesn't hurt that she's hot either...and I am a girl!!!
Vary strict and high workload but you will come out of the class with full understanding. Do all the homework and seek out help if you need it, and if you do, you'll do well in this class. Best math teacher ever.
Tammy a gifted math instructor, she is extremely hard, but fair. I had her previously, and returned for math 112. The subject was challenging, but she was clear, concise, organized, and available for help.
I think the people leaving these bad reviews are just lazy. This is a great teacher, helpful, HOT,kind, not condescending, funny, and very thurough. Stop hating and start studying people Tammy is awesome....if you have to take calc take it with her.
Tammy knows what she is doing when it comes to math. So far its going good and she is ver thorough. She is smart and easy on the eyes. Is she as cool as Jessica Bernard (formally Barkin) ON TOP of all these great qualities ALSO? No, BUT its not about that.
I had another teacher sub for her and he even mentioned how she's one of the toughest teachers for math. While so, she's extremely helpful and friendly. If you have personal issues come up she will go out of her way to help you out and keep you caught up, as long as you keep her in the know. Very strict syllabus but a wonderful person.
Heres the trick to her classes.."Reverse engineer" your hw..start with the answers and work ur way backwards..then forward.. again and again..i made/added a lot of "self-made what if" Q's about my HW Q's so i could see how each component effects the other in 251. Its a "knowing how to manipulate the tools taught" with Tammy.
If you're lazy... don't take Tammy- or any other math teacher worth their salt. If you're not lazy, but want a great teacher who HELPS you to learn (unlike a few I could mention), take Tammy! She prepares you for what is coming next by presenting concepts in a clear way and making sure you can too. Highly recommended. Oh, and she's a hotty too.. ;)
would not recomend this teacher. The classwork seemed completley different than the bookwork which made tests confussing. I have never struggled so hard in any of my math classes as I did in this one, math has always come easy for me. I don't think her teaching style is effective for many students.
It seemed like she intentionally made a tough class even harder.
Tammy deserves a better score than this ratting suggests. As you read these comments, remember all the whiners in class! She is very helpful to anyone who asks. She also works with students one on one and is very good at it.
This is a fast moving course. Pay attention, Take notes! You will need them for the final. Tammy is very helpful and skilled. She does not cut any slack, so if you are lazy...look elsewhere.
I definitely recommend Tammy. Her class is a bit tough, but you will come out of it knowing the material. The homework is not required, but you get extra credit at the end if you turn it all in. You don't need the book in class--it's on hold in the library, so save yourself some money. If you're willing to put in the time, Tammy is number one!
LOVE Tammy! She's not easy, and she will tell you that on the first day. Obviously loves what she does and is very helpful to those who ask. Math 111 is not easy no matter who you take it with, but I felt Tammy was quite realistic in her expectations. I would take her again!
Tammy is wonderful, pre-calc is hard no matter what, especially if you haven't done amazing in all of your other math classes. In math you have to help yourself, and if you can't you have to take responsibility and ask for help. I have had some not so great math teachers, so I know the signs, but Tammy is not one of them.
Math 112 forces you to utilize everything you've learned so far. If you don't have it down, Tammy will make sure you have it down before you leave her class. The homework load is impossible, but that's the point. Know your stuff. Tammy is a fabulous teacher. I hope she teaches 251 in spring, 'cause I'm sticking w/ her.
I think in a few more years she will be a better teacher. She tries to be that teacher that is super hard, but somehow by the end of the term you get it. But with her she is just plain hard and by the end of the term you don't get it, or pass. There is something missing in what she is trying to do, but I'm sure it works for some students.
OMG hard!! but one of the best teachers you will ever have! she's amazing personally, sweet, easy to talk to and does a fantastic job of teaching. Math is hard, she makes it not so scary. She is a hard teacher though, don't take her if you plan to slack off!!
Slacker beware, she has no patience for you. Great teacher. Super pretty! Overwhelmingly helpful outside of class. Thanks Tammy ;)
She is terrible about getting work back. This is irritating since the only feedback we got in this class was based on how we did on exams and quizzes which she was always late returning, if returned at all. Answers for the worksheets handed out in class are never posted online. If you can visit her in her office 3 times a week she is helpful.
I love math I have always gotten good grades because I understood everything. This class was awful, she's a wonderful person but she made everything very complicated, her test were hard even if you studied I do not recommend her.
This was an easy class taught by a difficult instructor. I received a C for this class - the only C I've received in the year and a half I've been back in school. I'm now in calculus and easily pull A's and B's. I didn't appreciate her tendencies to want to teach us "life lessons". I just wanted to learn math.
After a few weeks in this class, I gave up and learned the subject matter elsewhere (Khan Academy, other free resources on the web). I ended up with an A in the class, but Tammy and the HIDEOUS pre-calc textbook PCC uses had little to do with it. Tammy could be an awesome teacher if she would get over her Steve Jobs syndrome. Tough != good.
Tammy was an awesome teacher. It was a really great step back into math after almost 6 years. She is definitely strict about attendance and cell-phone use in class, the latter I appreciated. She gives detailed expectations for quizzes and exams, and offers extra credit. Fun and helpful, would definitely recommend.
I haven't taken a math class in over ten years and heard statistics was TOUGH. If you show up to class every day, take notes, and do the homework, this class isn't that hard. I personally really liked her teaching style and I appreciated the "brain breaks"! I would absolutely take a class from her again.
I'm retaking stats with a diff, fantastic teacher because all I did was take notes in Tammy's but had no understanding of what I was writing, kept falling back and back. She doesn't explain worth CRAP! I was depressed the whole term because I've never done so poorly. I would absolutely dread going to each class every mornin. Worst experience ever.
Tammy is engaging and helpful. She makes statistic make sense. She goes a bit fast sometimes and does not always have time to clarify things so plan on using your book a lot.
Tammy is an excellent and tough teacher. Going to class and doing the work will gain you the skills you need as you advance. That is the true test of a good teacher, not how easy it is to get an A. Tammy is very clear in communicating her expectations for the class and in teaching the subject matter. Amazingly helpful outside of class.
Tammy will only help you outside of class, and will say she doesn't have time for you in class. If you work - maybe find someone else. She is well spoken, but that doesn't translate into clarity on tests and quizzes. I spent time during those tests trying to figure out what she forgot to say despite volumes of wordy, yet incomplete instructions.
She clearly states her expectations of her students and repeats the important stuff many times so you get it for your notes. She's very helpful with questions and can explain concepts in different ways.
Come to every class, take notes, do the reading and homework, study a little bit and you'll get an A. This may seem like it's true for any class, but trust me it's not. Tammy's a great teacher. She doesn't waste class time letting every student go off on tangents. She's very professional and takes her job very seriously, which is really refreshing.
Had her for 251-253 before transferring to OSU. She inspired me to pursue math and physics further. She's dedicated & passionate. Great way of explaining things. She taught me Calc 1-3, and I aced Calc 4 without even showing up. I cant speak highly enough of Tammy. Stands out as the one prof that made the biggest impact on my education & career.
Tammy's classes were the highlight of my week. I enjoyed the challenge of the material because she was so good at walking us through every concept thoroughly and entertaining-ly. Definitely the best math class I've ever had, especially after years of avoiding the subject. Tammy taught me that there's no real reason for math to be so stigmatized.
I took Statistics I from Tammy, and I had an overall positive experience. Attendance is important because of the many worksheets and weekly quizzes. Homework was not required, but I would recommend keeping on top of it. Tammy is a tough grader, but she wants to see her students succeed. I found her willing to help and answer all questions.
Ms. Louie is a really enthusiastic teacher. She's very clear and helpful and offers her time outside of class to tutor. The lecture times are very helpful and leave me feeling prepared for the homework.
Tammy Is great!!! She used lecture time wisely and made sure her students understood the concepts. She lets you use notes on both midterm and final but its important to study also! She lets homework be extra credit for 2%, and drops your lowest score. If you want to pass STATS with a good grade I would take her. You couldn't find a better teacher.
The ALEKS homework program is miserable. I spent 12+ hours per week on this class and am not going to pass with a C. ALEKS takes up the majority of time spent, and her quizzes are worded in a confusing manner. Quizzes focus on material from weeks before, not current subject. Tammy is nice, but I *hated* her class.
So first of all, only take this class if you like Aleks! If you enjoy a professor who gives lots of application problems and makes real world connections, Tammy is for you! Beware midterms and finals are ridiculously hard, but she gives partial credit for everything. She only does one midterm bummer. But i love her, she pushes you to succeed!
She is tough, but fair. Her exams/quizzes are moderate/hard and will give good feedback on them. Expect lots of homework, if you do all of it also expect a 2% extra credit. Wait for the BO joke for probabilities.
Tammy is very caring, and willing to work with you. She grades tough, but is willing to sit and explain more like a high school teacher when you need the help. If she notices that a lot of people are missing she will throw in extra credit for those in attendance. She is awesome and I would take another class from her if I needed more math classes.
Teaching style was great, her lectures were very organized. She passed out many handouts that made note taking easier, and saved class time. Before a quiz or exam she would clearly state what would be on it and what to study for. Easy to get ahold of via email or office hours. Definitely willing to help you pass the class. All homework was online.
Tammy is a very organized and caring instructor who is passionate about the subject and makes interesting. I particularly liked her utilization of visual teaching methods and clear expectations. Do all homework and attend every class. Tammy challenges her students but is fair she makes it easy to understand expectations. You'll learn a lot!
Tammy is an excellent professor. She is serious and focused while being down to earth and approachable. We used the ALEKS program for this class, which I liked a lot, but might not be for everyone. Homework was very manageable., and her tests were straightforward enough. She is happy to meet with students during office hours. highly recommended.
Tammy is a dynamic instructor. The course is rigorous, however she sets you up for success. Concise communication and organized lectures which I greatly appreciated. The ALEKS program is powerful as it is configured via user's skill set so you get you're own customized homework that is catered to strengthens weak areas and skips subjects you know.
Tammy is excellent. Earn extra points if you complete the homework. Class is a mix of lecture and practicing with classmates. I met with her outside of class and this was really helpful.
Tammy is, hands down, the best math professor I've ever had. She's extremely well organized, a super clear & engaging lecturer, and provides top-notch study material. She grades work promptly and is very helpful during office hours. She doesn't put up with any BS though, so stay on your toes and don't make excuses.
I enjoyed the class. I worked really hard and spent a lot of time working outside of class but the grading was fair. I hated ALEKS at first but by the end of class it grew on me. I liked the instant feedback and being able to review prereqs. Tammy was available for help outside of class and explained topics well.
Tammy has many good qualities, but I can't recommend this class unless you feel confident in math. Not enough time is spent on individual topics in class. Expect to cover most topics once during lecture. You end up teaching yourself, which works for some, but not me. Google ALEKS. It's not good, it causes a lot more frustration than necessary.
I have taken two labs at PCC with two different teachers, both really good, but Tammy is the better of the two. She pushes you to strive for achieving math skills through setting a plan in place through the PCC math tutoring program and does check ups to see progress. Very nice, good person. Wish I'd taken her for math lab this term again.
This teacher prepares you to be confident with Mathematics on any level, even if you haven't taken Math in a long time.
ALC20B is a pass/no pass class and that grade option wasn't available to choose. I got a pass. Tammy was a super great teacher/advisor. She is very clear about the expectations and really gives the best feedback on work that I have ever gotten from a teacher. Very clear, very helpful, super nice and I'm purposely taking another class of hers next.
WORST PROFESSOR I HAVE EVER HAD at any school, in any subject. Crams lectures so full that she doesn't have time for questions. Won't answer questions when you don't understand. Will not look at work to see if you are getting concepts. Groups are a complete waste of time she could be using to actually teach. Expectations are extremely unrealistic!
This was one of the better remote classes that I've taken. Remote has been hard but the teacher made it easier with straight forward lectures. She was always quick to respond to my emails. I learned a lot and enjoyed the material more than I expected. A free textbook was nice but it wasn't the best to learn from. The class was fun and I would rec.
I really liked the weekly feedback I received about my progress. She was kind and supportive. I learned a lot using the ALEKS program and attending regular zoom class times. Math classes should be taught this way with a focus on learning and not deadlines.
