Awful, just awful. The funny (sad) thing is that she wants to become a teacher.
If you want to hear "Let's kick it up a notch" or some variation thereof at least 10 times in one class period, Tammy is your gal. Also, fans of nasally mouth-breathers should definitely take this class. She is one of the best! At the end of the day, she isn't the WORST teacher in the world, but she's pretty darn annoying.
Easy but having this class 4 days a week really takes its toll on you. The lectures, the jokes, and the "mini" quizzes get old after a while. The room is usually a comfortable 98 degrees and it feels like a dungeon.
She is inexperienced and needs to figure out how to do the math before she comes to class. Not to mention how to teach it!
She is absolutely terrible. I think she is good at explaining the concepts, but doesn't know how to test, hold realistic expectations, provide adequate help outside of class, etc. One of the worst teachers I've ever had.
She is a very annoying teacher. Her voice kind of makes me want to never go to class. She is decent and explaining concepts, but prides herself of failing everyone which to me shows there something wrong w/ her teaching. Her tests are prett hard, but more than that it is hard to know what she is asking for. Doable class, but why would you want to?
Horrible! Believes a 50% is a good score!!! Voice is screechy, almost like nails on a chalkboard! Doesn't understand math, has to go off notes the entire class!!!! Complains a lot. Contradicts herself, and not very clear. You are basically going to fail if in this class.
Absolutely horrible! Worst teacher I've ever had. I did everything in the class-attended every single lecture/discussion, 100% on all quizzes and homework, but when I got the tests, I was so lost. She tested us on material harder than any examples we ever went over. There's also a huge project due at the end of term on top everything else!
So far from what I read, people don't think she's a good teacher.I on the other hand dissagree. She has told us she hated math for a long time and that it is possible to enjoy it. I I felt it was honest and I didn't feel dumb for asking questions. Whenever I didn't understand something she was quick to break it down for me.
She has been my favorite math teacher so far. Extremely helpful outside of class. Yes, tests and quizzes are harder than the in class examples but they use concepts she did present. She's just seeing if you can apply them. Passed the class and wished she taught calculus so I could have her again.
I really liked Tammy for a math teacher. Yes, she does make the quizzes harder than you would expect but she only does that to prepare you for the exams. I failed the first three quizzes but ended up with a 95% in the class. As long as you go to class and go to office hours when you dont understand something, you will do great! I loved her teaching
She was a great teacher. I am terrified of math, but after taking her class I'm more confident and feel prepared for MATH 111. If you have to take MATH 095 or are worried about math in general, take MATH 095 from her. She's super clear, gives great example. Attend all classes and pay attention and you'll get an A.
Math is usually easy for me (A+ in 105) Nezol is horrible! 100% on quizzes, 55% on midterm. Doesn't add up to me. She is constantly making stupid errors in her lectures that make it difficult to learn the material. Her tests even had multiple errors that she had to correct-after I spent 20 min. confused at how to find the volume of a 2D figure.
She is ridiculous. AVOID. Should have known when I received an email this summer saying "you are already behind!".... Seriously?-avoid this one.
THis teacher his hard to understand, very nice but we are not 12 year olds. She uses these rediculous analogies and does nothing like the book. AVOID at all times.Im usually a quick learne. She makes constant mistakes which makes it harder to learn the material. you basically have to teach yourself, the book is my bible.
Worst math teacher I have ever had. She would give you easy examples in class and then when you have quizzes (every week) they were so much harder. AVOID HER AT ALL COSTS.
She is a good teacher. She is hard but she only wants to prepare you for the next math class your going to have to take. If you go to her office hours she is very helpful. She is really goofy and really nice. She has been teaching probably longer than any other math teacher you can find. I'd take her.
Ms. Tammy is sweet but she's not as helpful as she seems. She's SUPER busy all the time! However, I did enjoy her class.
Ms. Nezol is not as bad as people say! she's really sweet and grades fairly generously but she's very busy so sometimes it might seem as though she's not helpful but you just have to approach her at the right time. Mostly I learned to just teach myself, mathzone's really helpful!
great professor!
Moody, demanding, and uncooperative. She's also stringent on grades and takes attendance in a 95 class when most other teachers don't. Avoid her like the plague. .. If you want to understand at least half the material that is.
Amazing professor :) she's very sweet and grades fairly unlike several other math teachers/professors.
She was a terrible teacher, not helpful at all and she treats you like you're in second great. Retaking this class again so I can actually do well in 112
She is very helpful
The best part about Tammy is that she provides practice problems and homework that are much more difficult than her tests. I failed the "readiness" quiz and ended up with an A+. You get a notecard on every test and tests are very fair.
She is one of the best prof. Who taught me ! I took a math 095 class with her and i would recommend her to anyone ! Ive never understood math in my life until i studied at her class ! She is one of the best !
By far my favorite teacher at uo. she explains everything in a way that just makes sense. i never once had to study for this class, after going to class i basically understood everything. she's super cool, super nice, really helpful. overall a great math teacher! i would definitely recommend taking one of her classes:)
Hardest class I've taken. Tammy made it very hard for me to retain anything because of the way she taught. She had to look at her notes throughout each class. She treated her students like children. She is very sassy and quite demeaning. If you see signs of yourself struggling, go to office hours IMMEDIATELY. Not as bad one on one, but still SASSY
A good teacher. The course is follow a easy pace. As long as pay attention in class, student can ensure to receive a high score. Before each test, she will go over the whole chapter. Two 2 page essays per term. It is a easy pass paper.
Honestly, the 211-213 classes at the U of O are the hardest sequence of Math classes. This professor however, makes it extremely difficult. If you ask a question, she makes you feel incredibly unintelligent. She didn't pass someone who skipped ONE class for the National Championship. She had a 74%, chose the PNP option, and she didn't pass.
I really enjoyed tammy and her teaching technique. If you need help make sure you go to her office hours, it helps build rapport and she breaks things down that you might not be strong at. Would recommend taking her if you are worried about remedial math skills.
Least favorite teacher at U of O. Highly recommend not taking the class if she's the instructor. She does an awful job at explaining the information and comes across as very condescending. I have not come across one person who enjoyed having her as an instructor.
She was a terrible teacher. The lectures are incredibly boring and seem to go on forever even though it's only a 40 minute class. The online homework she gives is very annoying to get through, but it did teach me the material far more than she did it class. The class it self was not very hard at all, if you do the work and study a little its easy.
I got 95 class with her and was amazing her quizzes are easy same as the worksheet but different numbers. she is a wonderful teacher I recommend to take her class !!
Tammy cares so much about seeing her students succeed. If you aren't willing to take her advice/tips on how to do well in the course and are lazy, that's on you (and this is coming from a lazy student). She was extremely helpful outside of class, just go to office hours a ton. Review notes before class and be ready for boring lectures. It's math.
Tammy is not the worst teacher that I have ever had, however she is definitely up there with some of the worst. I do feel she is a bit condescending and is not a good at instruction. As a student with disabilities she was semi accommodating, but gave pushback and made it harder for me than any of my other instructors.
Nice person, but teaches like she is teaching a class of fourth graders. Doesn't justify when assignments are due. Insanely boring lectures and she has no sense of humor. Gives little time to work on quizzes. But, if you need help on anything, speak up or go to her office hours and she will most likely help you understand the material more.
Worst professor I have ever had. Doesn't explain concepts well - just works out problems on the board without pausing to explain and expects students to understand. No sense of humor, very boring.
She definitely does talk to students like an elementary teacher, but it was math101 so what can you expect. Only homework was the prework which was just googling a few things, everything else was done in class in groups. She moved slow through material but made sure no one was falling behind. Overall nice lady, not sure why some ratings were so bad
I loved her class. It is very difficult. She does active learning so be prepared to get out of you seats and learn. She has clear grading criteria and is amazing. She is a solid choice for a math teacher
Tammy is the worst professor I have ever had at this university. She is not clear about what she wants from the students at all. She also does not explain concepts well and when you ask her for help she often tells you to "figure it out". She is unprofessional and does not care about her student's level of understanding.
Do not take her class 213 if you are expecting a good grade. The homework she gave are mostly things that she havent talked about, and there are too much assignments.
Tammy is the most kind, wonderful professor Ive had thus far. Her class is hard, but if you communicate with her she will make sure youre given the tools necessary to succeed. Shes incredible.
She really cares about each student and their success in the class. She is very accessible outside of class, and always responds to emails in a timely manner. She does talk to you a but like an elementary student, but she has young kids of her own so I get it. Great prof overall!
If you have her for math be prepared for very little help and a lot of homework that she doesn't really go over. The practice exams she gives out are usually way harder than the real exams. Not very helpful in class but expect to get good feedback if you attend office hours so ATTEND OFFICE HOURS. She also takes very long to grade things.
Tammy genuinely cares about how well her students do in the class. She gives great help and support and connects you with tons of math help and resources. After taking her class I feel really prepared for future math in college. If you show up and ask questions when you need it, she will make sure you succeed.
the entire lecture she just asks the class how to do the problems. goes so slow and boring
Prof Nezol was great, very understanding and took the time to thoroughly teacher the tougher topics. I would suggest taking here for any lower level math you have to do.
Assigns a lot of homework every week. I had to go to tutoring everyday to get through the class and ended with a C. She made mistakes a lot in the lectures and homework assignments which was a bit frustrating. Would not recommend this class. Had to sign excuse forms to get extensions on assignments and you only get two.
Definitely a tougher class, I'd recommend a different teacher. Her lectures were mostly problem based that would be screen-recorded and uploaded to Canvas. Homework (Webwork) was normally what took the most time, and even the problems selected were rougher. If you take this class, be prepared to devote more time than normal.
Tammy cares about her students and their success. She tries her best to make sure that every question gets answered and every concept is understood by everyone. She frequently has office hours and there are plenty opportunities to get help
Tammy was a great professor who cared about her students. While there was quite a bit of work, she was dedicated to help her students through it and was always willing to help. This is definitely a class you have to go to and pay attention to because it's all taught in lecture. Office hours will be helpful.
She was great for what the subject was, going outside of the normal base is hard. I think she is very nice and helpful. I liked her teaching style, and always willing to help you. It is a confusing class until it clicks, and once it does then it is very good. The tests are not bad and she drops one assignment of every type which is useful.
Tammy is a very boring teacher with lectures that half the time make no sense. would not recommend this teacher.
Professor Nezol was a very good math teacher. She made all topics easy to understand. She went slow, and always reviewed things so that we would understand what she was doing. She was clear and concise, and I would take another class from her in a heartbeat.
In terms of math teachers, she was great. Each lesson was straightforward and well explained. She also went out of her way to make sure everyone was keeping up. Offered plenty of office hours and gave a bunch of 1 on 1 help. She also made sure you knew what to expect on tests.
Doesn't check her own answers when plugging them into desmos. Blames all of her mistakes on software difficulties and "programming." Spent hours trying to solve unsolvable problems. Basically unintentional gaslighting. Very sweet professor though.
Tammy is a bad math 101 teacher her lectures are boring, and often have very little to do with the homework. Her tests were hard, and I felt like I was alone in her class. I struggled to get her to help me. worst class I have taken at UO.
Don't expect to learn much from this teacher, loves yapping in front of the class and making students work in pointless groups.
I had Tammy in 211 and 212. This class definitely has more work than most of the 4 credit classes I have taken, but if you try, you will succeed. Tammy has office hours as often as possible, never makes you feel ashamed for asking questions or getting wrong answers, and she wants to help you. Wish I could take her again for 213. She wants to help.
currently taking math 111 and let me tell you the lectures are sooooooo full of notes so great ready for that. Feels like I'm not learning anything and she just yaps the whole time. Went to her extra help hours and literally got bullied for not drawing a table on a problem. Go to the TA's because they are awesome (Aiden Math) (Berke)
Kind of rough. She is not the most approachable and really does not explain concepts in the best way personally. Most people in our class failed weekly quizzes with 30-50% ratings and she does not curve. GE's are slightly helpful but generally you have to do a lot of teaching yourself in this class. Attendance was extra credit, not mandatory.
Lectures are fine. Webwork confusing at times. Weekly quizzes and homework's are way harder than exams so don't be stressed. Overall good teacher would take again
Does her own examples wrong and has to redo them during lecture. Guaranteed that some homework problems aren't taught during lecture.
Her office hours are useless, she'll tell you to "look at the notes" after politely asking 4 help which have horrible handwriting and don't even correlate to the homework. She'll teach 5 problems a class, and doesn't even follow through with them, tells us to plug it in at home, then replug it in a different equation. HW can be done with Chat GPT
I had Tammy for 211. A lot of homework. Tough grader. Very forgetful. The class is pretty hard even when you show up everyday. She is more helpful in office hours. Very understanding and kind though and easy to get a hold of.
Despite some confusing topics, like going into different number base systems, Tammy remained patient with our class. She can be forgetful, but will respond to emails almost immediately. Office hours are very helpful, do not be afraid to ask questions and get help!! If you go to class, listen, and respect Tammy, you will do great.
The content for this class is fun for EDST majors. The class is structured to go through content very fast. You need to go to office hours to have her explain things to you in a way you are going to understand.
Tammy slays the house boots down it's a math class…how good can a math class be she does her best
could not stand her, literally impossible to try to sit through class. Also gets problems wrong and students have to correct her. Don't recommend if you want to understand anything. All quizzes and test for the most part are taken outside of class with you discussion leader and that's the only time you will learn anything.
yo she don't know how to teach, never had a teacher ever confuse x and y. don't take this class.
While the profferer was amazing the TA was terrible, I could not understand what they were saying and they had trouble explaining concepts ad what could be improved, save your time and just go to office hours with the professor rather than the group meeting.
She's probably a very nice person but I don't feel that she teaches in a very helpful way. There have been several times when something has come up in the homework that definitely wasn't taught in class. Her lectures are really slow and boring too. I feel like what we learn in the lectures is barely useful when it comes to tests and quizzes.
horrible teacher do not take her class
I don't want to be too harsh because she seems very sweet, but her lecture is so hard to engage with. It seems like she is all over the place and says so much without saying anything at all. Her lessons are not very structured, and I wish she would actually explain concepts rather than just doing example problems and hoping we pick up on it.
This professor is definitely my favorite at UO. She cares about what she teaches and takes the time to help students. Has tons of Office hours to give help. Very flexible.
bro dropped out cuz she made no sense and didn't no what she was talking abt fr
As a person she seem very sweet but she was was really all over the place and did too much talking rather than teaching there were times that the lessons would bounce around we learned more about thing that weren't even on the exams seems she has some sort of favoritism won't go to most table to help and when she does she doesn't explain very well
DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS!!!! she is not very helpful and doesn't explain well at all, i struggled with math my whole life and now im even worse at it. only a single person passed the benchmark exam… very telling.
Sweet lady but omg she can't teach, this class was so stressful.
She's a sweet lady but i would rather walk into oncoming traffic than take this class again.
Tammy does a wonderful job of explaining topics you already know in a way that reinforces your understanding. I had to call her over many times to get clarification on difficult problems, however once I did I was able to do it for the rest of the term. Emphasizes more on "long term knowing" than "short term memorization", and honestly I like that.
This class was terrible. Tammy's way of teaching was all over the place and she would constantly be giving us wrong answers or messing up on her own work in the lecture. I highly do not recommend this class with her. And if you do not do good on the finals, you will probably fail this class.
I highly recommend sparing yourself the experience of taking Tammy's class. She genuinely doesn't care about you as a student and takes a "not my problem" sort of attitude when you talk to her. Also, the homework and study material are completely different from the tests, because there is usually new material that was never taught or explained.
She's a sweet lady so I don't want to be too harsh but the way this class was structured made it so confusing and for me personally her teaching made no sense.
Doesn't know how to teach the material, will have you work in packets and tech it yourself. Or she spends the entire class going over one problem and you're expected to finish the rest of the packet on your own. Will have you take a Benchmark Test that is required to pass the class.
