Best English teacher at IRCC. Grades fairly.

Dr. Powley grades papers fairly and will answer your questions after class. She doesn't put up with crap and she shouldn't. I didn't care too much about half of her topics for essays, but they weren't hard at all. I'd reccomend taking Dr. Powley!

Strict but I only seemed to get 85%. Never had home work.

Dr. Powley is a very organized teacher. Her syllabus is very detailed so you know exactly what to expect on assignments and due dates. She is very helpful but allows you to figure out most things on your own time (we are in college, not highschool) Overall, I think she is awesome and I am looking forward to taking her ENC1102 class next semester.

she is an awesome teacher i had her for both enc 1101 and enc 1102. she is consistent, fair. i really enjoyed her classes the assignments were interesting. after my not having been in school for almost 25 yrs she was very patient and helpful throughout the class

Straightforward English class. Read a short story, play or poem and write about it. Work is submitted over WebCT and you'll receive prompt feedback on your essays and how to improve. If you need additional help beyond what she does for drafts, use her office hours. Weekly pop-quizzes on the assigned materials make attendance mandatory.

She is a good teacher but you have to do your homework. She does not just give you the answers. I got a B in her classes online. Took her for ENC1101 and ENC1102.

Professor Powley grades fairly, but mainly on grammar, which is the only set back if you do not write well.

Professor Powley was wonderful. I was nervous about having her as an instructor because of the comments posted below. Do not be like me. She is great! If you follow her instructions and do the work you will do well!

This teacher is not hard AT ALL. I took her Spring 2011 online on maternity leave. Awesome.She's not going to hand you an A. You work for it! I submitted papers early and she had no problem telling me what to do to get a better grade. I can not believe the other comments. She's a great teacher. I even wrote her letter to tell her how much I learned

She was actually pretty fair. Everyone is negative on her, but to be honest each email I sent her she responded right back with help. She allows you to submit a rough draft, she provides feed back. I enjoyed the online class. She is very critical on spelling so be careful.

Professor Powley was a very good teacher. I took her online class and at first was a little discouraged at how hard she graded, but as the course progressed I realized it was me that needed to do better. She was very helpful and I turned in my essays three days prior to duee date and she always responded in kind. I would recommend her!

Professor Powley's course is not difficult nor difficult to follow.I took her class online.If you have any questions she answers it. She even lets you submit a rough draft so she can point out what needs improvement. I got an A in the class. I definitely recommend her. You just have to make sure to keep up with the due dates.

Tammy Powley is an excellent professor, who is very willing to assist you whenever you need it. Online classes are fun and very interesting. The syllabus spells out exactly what needs to be done with great clarity. So there is no need to not pass this course. Professor Powley has the best online class there is.

I didn't find this class all that hard. She was a bit hard with grammar correctness, but other than that I found her pretty easy going. Read the story, take a quiz, write an essay. Even with all the essays it gave you time to improve. I loved her class as long as you pay attention and do the essays.

Though she is a tough grader, she is a very nice teacher. Tough grading helps motivate you to do better. She was quick to answer any questions and was willing to read rough drafts for you in advance so you could make the corrections before you submitted the final essay.

Professor Powley really isn't too bad. Yes, she's a tough essay grader, but that doesn't mean she's going to fail you. You're allowed to submit a rough draft so it's not hard to get feedback from her. The other assignments (quizzes/reading responses) are simple and easy. She's tougher than most but not impossible.

AN EASY A CLASS. She is awesome. I took the express class for enc 1101 and it was very easy. Read a story (they're always short), take a quiz, she does the outline with you IN CLASS for the essay that will be due the next class. She's very helpful, I'm probably going to take her class Textbook: Reading for writers is all you really need.

She is a really tough grader on essays or research papers. On the discussions or quizzes she is pretty easy going but she really only wants to see papers. Because it was an online class I had to do homework which was all easy as long as you do the required reading. I wouldn't take her again if I had the choice.

She reminds me of a high school teacher to be honest. TONS of reading, every week and a 10 - 15 question multiple choice test on the readings once a week. She tends to be a little spiteful, for example, if not many people show up for class she will give a pop quiz on purpose. SO GO TO CLASS. Once you do the work though you will get an A FOR SURE.

Took class online, there is a lot of reading but this should be expected for an English class. Enjoyed the assigned readings and the papers, quizzes were clear cut. Professor Powley can be very critical with grading but this is to push you to do your best. I would definitely sign up for another class with Professor Powley

Took ENC1102 online, if you read her instructions carefully and thoughtfully, you can easily get an A or B. She does provide feedback, that can be taken as criticism. However, if you just take the feedback and use it for your next paper, you can easily improve on it. Honestly, I prefer and appreciate someone that takes the time to make me better.

Very easy online class, just several short writing assignments and a final writing project. The proctored exam is mandatory but all you have to do is tell her what your project is going to be.

Professor. Powley is a great professor i had her for two semesters and I would take her again if I could I had her for enc1101 and enc1102 and I enjoyed the class . She gives amazing feedback on essays we do in class . IN MY opinion she is very helpful and the class is super easy

Took Dr. Powley for ENC1101 and ENC1102! She is super sweet and will help if you ask. She does have tests covering everything but if you read the material she takes it straight from the book. She gives great feedback on how to help your writing with essays. Will always recommend her for an English professor.

Took the class online, she uploads ECHO lessons. Easy A though if you do the reading and submit the assignments on time.

Dr. Tammy Powley is a firm and respected English professor around Indian River. Once you are in her class you will be met with firm guidance on how to write essays with clear and detailed instructions. Dr. Powley is a very understanding professor and won't hesitate to help correct any mistakes you have made on your essays. She can teach very well.

Dr Powley is a great professor. She provides plenty of help with writing assignments in class. Even offers to review drafts to help with structure before submitting for grade. Tests are straight forward from reading material.

Relatively easy class, provided you pay attention. She is very helpful at critiquing a rough draft if you need help. She doesn't expect perfection from a paper, so it's not hard to pass this class.

Best online class to take if you need an A to boost your GPA. Homework consists of watching videos and/or TedTalks and then writing a small paragraph voicing your opinion. Super easy A. 1 final paper is your choice of creative writing style, and she's cool with you writing about whatever interests you.

Dr. Powley is an awesome Professor she makes class fun and is very sweet do your homework she doesnt play about that she does do extra credit so it when she says or shes not forgiving on that FOLLOW THE SYLLABUS and you will pass taking her fall 1102 love her

She was very helpful with writing essays. As long as you aren't afraid to ask for help, this class is very straightforward.

She has a clear grading rubric and is really quick to respond. As long as you know how to use proper grammar and follow her format and instructions, you will be good. There's one written assignment in the testing center and three written assignments and the final project are due online. Other than that, there are a few interesting Ted Talks.

Don't listen to the bad reviews about Dr. Powley. She is an incredible professor. I misread instructions on an assignment and she allowed me to re-do it. This is an easy course and doesn't require you to give up hours of your time. Just show her you are a hard worker and make your papers fit the rubric. Grammarly and friends helped me a lot.

Dr. Powley is a easy going professor. She gives you a choice to work ahead on the homework and papers , everything is due by the end of semester. Work ahead in the class and do the projects and you will pass the class.

Took her for an in person class right before corona and absolutely loved it, so now taking her online. Easy A as long as you do the work and are respectful. Answers emails super fast and easy work.

The way she structures this course makes it hard to get less than an A. There are many easy 100s that will bring your grade up. She also responds very quickly to emails and her late work policy is the best I've seen (only 1 point off every day past). Decent amount of work but if you get everything done you should good. Full online class(no lecture)

Professor Powley to this day is still one of the best professors I have had. She is helpful, she cares, and she wants her students to do well. The class is majority reading literature and writing essays which is minimal for literature class. I would take her as many times as my school would let me if I could. Shes a great professor.

Shes easily one of the best professors at IRSC. Her quizzes are perfectly balanced, the papers are fairly graded and shes very understanding if you have issues outside of class. Take her if you want a good grade and a great professor.

She lets you turn assignments in late for just one point off for each day you miss. Discussion boards are super easy. As long as you use proper grammar and spell things right she won't mark you off. "Needed" a textbook for the class but I never bought one, just looked the stories up online. Theres about 4 papers for this class and final is easy.

I honestly don't understand why she has a low rating. She sends out reminders every Monday and will always provide good feedback on each assignment. Brilliant teacher, this class will probably be the easiest class you'll take, she provides reasonable due dates and she's very considerate if something happens. Also, she responds to emails quickly:)

Class instructions were very easy to follow. Assignments were manageable and actually helpful. Feedback was always quick and very personal. This class is great for writers looking to try something new and expand their own practices.

She graded things back quickly, the assignments were ok if you payed attention in class and went through the assignments. There was a presentation at the end of the semester that we had to do, a final project with a demonstration that we had to do based on what we chose to cover as a topic.

Prof. Powley's ENC1101 is a straightforward class with reasonable assignments. Stay on top of the work, and you're likely to earn a solid grade. I found Unstuck ai helpful for essay prep - it's a great study tool alongside the free textbook.
