He is, perhaps, one of the most closed minded people at SCSU. To a truly ignorant person, his bigotry may appear to be reality. He will not listen to an alternative view that he does not agree with; hence, the closed minded, spiteful tone that he spews.

A wonderful professor who fights everyday for the betterment of the society. Lots of experience to share with his students. He can be fun, or sometimes very irritating, it all depends if u can get along with his views, which i would say are not bad at all
People complain about him simply because he states the truth and people are not ready to hear the facts. If you are interested in seeing beyond CNN, FOX and MSNBC then he is highly recommended, your money will be worth your education for once!
Very interesting prof. Have an open mind when going to his class, as some of his views are different from what we're used to hearing.

Tamrat it not the most clear professor and he rambels on sometimes but he is passionate and sweet and you are sure to get an 'A'
A teacher who challenges thoughts. He may not be liked because he's very blunt and throws bitter truth but try to have an open mind...and he'll make complete sense. Very passionate, interesting! Test yourself, take his class!
This man preaches and this and that. All great. I'm left wing and I like the ideas. But he sold us out. He found out some students were going to lobby the legislature for progressive change...and he snitched to the administration. Somuchforthecause!
Nice guy, he loves his job. But fails to talk about the other end of racism. You get the feeling that whites hate everyone and no one htes them back.
Tamarate is nice but he is nutty. I like his points of view but can be scary. He is though an easy A and he hates to fail his students. Take him but do not ever argue against his point.

Easy A if you show up. No tests just book reports. Take notes during class and turn them in. Interesting stories but repeats them a lot. Kind of scary when he yells. He spits when he gets real excited- watch out. Overall very easy class and you can learn things if you want to.

He is Soooo Compassionate! Dedicates his time to students and to social activism. VERY intelligent. Entertaining, great speeches, very unique professor. He inspires me and I look up to him with admiration. Easy class if you do the work, he's more concerned about students understanding content=)

dr tamrat, is a great and very intelligent prof, not only does he bring very stong argument but the guy has the knowledge to back it up. great class i learned a lot, and you might not like what he talks about but that doesn't mean it's not interesting, take this class and grow as a person.
He makes good points, but if you know anything about Hitler, you will see striking similarities between the two. Tamrat has noble goals (ending racism, bigotry, etc.) but his fiery rhetoric and blatant exagerations make him come across as a violent ****. Take his words with a grain of salt!
This guy is a character, if you can, take a class with him! Fun and energetic, but yeah, if you are white, you may fell like a ****, either way, he rocks!!!
I took two classes from Dr. Tademe: xenophobia and change agent skills. I was burned out with academia until I took his class. He inspired me, and he always treated his students as if they were his equal. His classes are fun, interesting, inspiring and motivating. I am honored to know him.

He is a very liberal democrat that is very opinionated, which would be fine, but he tries to impose his views on everyone else. He believes his thoughts are the best and that everyone should believe them. He doesn't teach in class. He shares his personal stories the entire class time. I feel this class has become a waste of my time and money.
Hardly a "liberal democrat", more like a complete goof. He spouts Marxist ideals, refers to us as brother and sister, etc. this is all fine...if he actually believed any of it. Ask him where he lives...it may as well be the governor's mansion. Look what he drives. He's hardly "one of the people". Plus, he gets it wrong half the time...

Tadme is such a great guy. He tells personal stories in order to show how someone's life is affected everyday due to discrimination. He is very goofy but I learned a lot. He does put more pressure on white students, especially males, but only because of white, male power. He wants them to understand. & no tests, only 4 easy papers. I love this guy!

I think that Tamrat is a very thoughtful prof with the drive to make a difference. Those that feel otherwise are close-minded. He wants to educate the truths and victims' perspectives to help true understanding.
tries hard to make you understand. the night class gets a little long and boring. watch a lot of movies all the time. everything is due at the end of the semester in a portfolio.. pretty easy just boring

Not just the nicest professor, but one of the nicest people you will ever meet. He really cares about his students. (also, his classes are REALLY easy).
Horrible prof.. wanted to kill myself after being in his class for the first two weeks. I would not recommend him, especially if you are white, and especially a white male!!!!!! If you do take him, just agree with what he says... and even if you do, he will still probably hate you!!! He might mean well, but it didnt seem to work out well in the end

this dude is crazy, all he does is complain and give outlandish examples of racism, most of which sound pretty made up. he has alot of knowledge but is also biased as they come... complaining constantly about the white man and how they oppress people of color with no responsibility taken at all. huge whiner, end of story.

Tamrat is GREAT! He is truely compassionate about Human Relations and his students. He treats his students with respect and understanding and he knows that life happens. He will go out of his way to help anyone, anytime. You will learn things in class that you never could have imagined. One of the best classes I have taken at state, ever! Hes great
Tamrat is a nice guy, he is just very biased! But if you listen to him and you write your papers you will get an A. This class is super easy as long as you show up. and it makes it better if you have patience because he talks for forever!

Easy Interesting sometimes longwinded
I thought he was the so great in his teaching, we watched a lot of video, but they were useful. when he speaks, we listen. great class, will most likely take a class with him again.
He makes you learn and listen to what he says. I've learned more from him about race than i have in my entire life. He doesn't shelter the issues but lets you see the real reality according to people's everyday experiences. It really makes me sad that there isn't a mandatory class like this all throughout a person's life.
Tamrat is a GREAT teacher! He is a compassionate person and is very understanding. Class is mandatory, but if you miss it he won't grill you about where you were, he simply wants you to call and let him know you will be missing class. He is a wonderful teacher and I am going to take moe classes with him!
Awesome caring teacher. When I was having a hard time he understood unlike any teacher I've had before. Lot's of movies, only 1 wasn't too interesting so I'd defiantly take him. He's a caring cool teacher and you'll learn a ton about racism and sexism among other things. I'd take him for sure

When I started this class, I didn't know what to expect. It turned out to be a good class with a GREAT Prof. The first prof I had that actually understand students needs. Just be able to keep an open mind on things.

My only complaint was that he talking about 9/11 too much when, although interesting there were other things to talk about. He understands how tough it is to be a student, easy A and he's a good guy. Passionate about his class. I've taken two classes with him already and he's a good prof. Cheap books and, some books are online free.

i loved this class. i could relax and learn and really get in depth with the subject at hand without the fear of possibly failing. take notes in class, attend, work on group project for final presentations. he doesn't care if you disagree with him. great teacher but very unique style. oh and the words summaries and notes are interchangable
He presents good information that every citizen should know; however, I am still having trouble figuring out how it is related to the class. For better or worse, there was not really anything academic about this course. He just rants about all the injustices in the world- without even hinting towards what we can do to stop them. It's frustrating
Whether you agree with his politics or not, it's hard to sit through a lecture of his while he indoctrinates 18 year olds. It's dissapointing when an important topic such as Human Relations gets muddled in his opinions, although he won't admit to offering opinions. He'll document his opinions as facts backing them up with others opinions.

He's nice guy, but this class is HORRID. He's easy to listen to for lectures, but none of his assignments are set in stone except the comprehensive paper, and two book reports. He is very understanding but hands out huge assignments willy nilly. Do not take this class with him if you have a full course load, your head will combust!
As a person, he seems understanding and nice, but during his class it is obvious that he perceives his opinions to be fact, and much of the class is very one-sided. Also, he expects perfection, and is easily irritated my simple things such as clicking a pen. He seems like he is in a good mood but can switch in a matter of seconds.
I took this course as a three hour long evening class... If I could I swear I'd sit and listen to him talk for days on end. His courses will blow your mind, and if they don't you should really confront your own oppressive mindsets.
The class was okay, didn't learn much. He is very passionate and cares deeply about his students and social justice. He's not the best teacher, but a phenomenal human. He does get irritated easily. Prepare for presentations, don't be disruptive, and thoughtfully ask questions. He goes to GREAT lengths for his students- get on his good side.
This class was an uphill battle. Nice guy, but almost never clear on what he wants except for a huge comprehensive paper and 2 presentations, and not too helpful when you ask for clarification. Wouldn't take him again, and I wouldn't recommend him.
I don't recommend this class to anyone. He's a nice guy, but he never gives clear statistics. He only gives his life experience and he is hypocritical. He waits all semester until the last month and gives a 20 page paper, 3 books to read, 2 presentations, movie summaries, etc.. He'll stop your movie every 30 secs to put his input in. Very annoying.

The lectures are the whole class period and feel like they just go on and on and have nothing to do with what were learning. Does not have a email, so your suppose to call or text him and he never responds and then will yell at you the next week if you didn't let him know you wouldn't be there. For a one credit class 4, 4 page papers is a lot.
Tamrat was an amazing professor! Although he can get off topic from the lecture he makes the class fun. He's so understanding and will help you with anything you have questions on. GET THE BOOKS - you will need them!
He is the best professor in my life. He grades clearly. He gives extra credit for extra work. He is funny and nice to all students. He allows student to leave class early in case of emergency or sick. He is an awesome teacher.
95% of the class based on events of 911, interesting to a point but causes burn-out on topic. Left yearning for a greater span on environmental justice topics (the subject of the class). A typical textbook not used, but book report on 911 commission report required for passing

Tamrat isn't a bad professor. But he freaks out if you aren't in class and you didn't tell him beforehand. No homework on a weekly basis, but you watch movies and he expects summaries of them all. You are basically graded on the notes you take. Just do the work and show up to class and he'll like you.

Professor Tamrat is an amazing professor. I highly recommend taking classes with him. He is caring, understanding. You will get an easy A in his class. There is no quizzes, midterms or final. There are only comprehensive paper and group projects. His lectures are fun but most of the time he will show videos in class.
He is such a great professor! Yes, he's a tough cookie but he's a caring person. He truly cares about his students and the difference they make after the class. The only bad thing is he interrupts student presentations... a lot. If you're absent from class, he calls you out on it too. Communicate with him and you'll be fine. Good luck!
I'm not kidding when I say please please please save yourself the anger and trouble and do NOT take this professor. He claims to care greatly about his students but will embarrass you in front of the entire class. Super unclear about what he wants and literally will rant for hours... I have never had a more horrible professor.

Dr. Tamrat's class opened me up from a small town life to a better understanding of those who surface around me. You may not like all of the topics covered in the class all of the time, and some may be uncomfortable based on your upbringing but it is real life! NO ELECTRONICS! DO NOT BE LATE! ACT LIKE AN ADULT, and you will do great! HE CARES!
Professor Tamrat is one of the most caring professors I have ever taken classes with. Some of his topics can be very uncomfortable with some but he really opens your eyes to see what is in front of you.

Tamrat is one of the most genuinely caring and supportive people I have ever met. He has YEARS of activism. So fun. Easy to talk to. Class was 3h 40min long which gets to be a lot, however, he does let you out early sometimes. He was so supportive of me, as my change agent project was a rally to expose fake womens health centers.
Gives all the assignments at the beginning of the semester. During class all you do is watch a ton of movies that take a long time to finish. like 3-4 class periods. Became very boring. . Hard to get a hold of, no email or d2l. Only text or call and he barely answers or gets back to you.
Hes a good professor but the assignment and grading system needs to change. He assigned everything at the beginning of the semester and said it was all due during the final. At first I thought it was ok but in reality, he should just have set deadlines throughout the duration of the class so he can get grades in on time & people wont get Is
Dr. Tamrat truly cares about his students, as long as you are honest and responsible you will do fine. He gives a lot of Incomplete's because a lot of students were cheating among them and he caught all of them. Just don't risk it because if you cheat he will notice.
He seems to really care about his students. He likes to voice his opinion and it often has to do with skin color. He will make you feel like you are equals and that we are all brothers and sisters but when it comes down to it, He is right- and hes the one holding the grade book so watch what you say and do.
Dr. Tamrat cares more about his students than almost anyone on campus. If you make sure to communicate with him and TA's if you have difficulty with attendance, he understands. People giving him a negative review just don't like his politics, they should have listened to his lectures more, you can learn a lot.

This class was based all on papers and a large group presentation at the very end of the semester. Most of the time you will spend watching videos he pauses literally after 30 seconds so he can interject his opinion and go off a tangent. If you are ever late to class just don't come, he will harass you in front of the entire class.
Overall, an easy class; however, he assigns you many papers, which most are 3-4 pages long, and you have to watch the video he assigns for the papers.

He talks most of the class and is very opinion based. Be careful what you say because it may impact your grade. Also for a 1 credit class, I think that 12 papers raging from 2-5 pages (most about 4) is a bit excessive. Most of the time you don't even watch the videos in class that you are required to write about.
Most of class will be you watching a vid and he will interject every 2 min. He has some great insight, but it takes for ever to get thru a vid. You'll have to watch most of them on your own. There are 10-12vids each requiring a 1-2pg paper. You also have to do reports on 2books. No tests or deadlines. I hate writing so I wouldn't take this again.
All of the classes consist of just watching a film and him interjecting every so often. Beware that even though this is a 1 credit course, you have 12-14 papers ranging from 2-4 pages you have to write on films. If you like deadlines or hate papers find another professor, all of the papers are due at the end of the semester. Not clear on grading.
A 1 credit class that has 14 papers all due by the end of the semester that are really just film summaries. He'll play a video in class, pause it every 10 - 30 seconds and fly off into some crazy tangent that may or may not have actually happened. Also, I hope you have thick skin incase you do anything wrong at all, or say anything at all in class
Professor Tamrat was an amazing professor who not only helped me during class but when I needed references for getting into the Social Work department he went out of his way to make sure that he got it turned in, even after having surgery two days beforehand. He cares about his students a lot and I recommend taking one of his classes!
Professor Tamrat obviously cares for his students and wants them to succeed in his class. The amount of papers required to do by the end of the semester is excessive. Wouldnt mind if they were shorter page requirements but they range from 1-4, mostly 3 or 4.
Bro talks way too much and his class is boring asf. We watch a video and he pauses it every 10 seconds and talks about absolutely absurd stories that may not have happened. Attendance is mandatory and is worth 20% of your grade. I sit here every Mondays and Wednesdays for 1 hour and 15 minutes listening to him rant on and on and he will not shut up
Tamrat is a great professor who cares about students. There are a lot of assignments but he has a lot of activist experience and knowledge to share. He is a worldly and knowledgeable person that cares about his students and is loving and caring. This was a great class to take Tamrat is by far the best professor at SCSU.
I have now taken 3 courses with Professor Tamrat and in all he has been incredible. Attendance is mandatory, but if you call/contact him explaining your absence he will usually excuse it.Yes paper heavy, but easy to write and all work due at end of semester so it gives you time to space work out! I absolutely reccomend everyone to take his courses!
Prof Tamrat claims to care about his students, yet the second you do something "wrong" he will call you out in front of the entire class and embarrass you with no hesitation. He talks so much, hard to understand, and just not a great professor. The class itself was fine but the professor himself just ruined it. Don't recommend.
A great person, but not really a great teacher. If you disagree with his ideas in this class, you will fail. Questioned one of the facts presented and was told I was "feeding into the government propaganda". Felt like I was sitting in a conspiracy theories class, and made me really uncomfortable. Lots of papers, which I was fine with.

Dr Tademe is an easy going professor, his classes were 75 minute long lectures. The homework usually consisted of 1 to 2 page reflection papers on videos dealing with race, gender and class issues. Attendance was mandatory. He is a kind man who looks out for his students. I regret I cannot take anymore classes with him.

Tamrat is a caring individual and I loved him as a person, but as a professor he is the best. You can't skip class he will call you out when you return, and do not have your phone out. You have to show up but to be honest I worked on other homework during his lectures. I really never payed attention and I did not lose a single point whole semester.
Professor Tademe's class can be a mixed bag - he's caring but has some quirks. Heavy on papers and readings, but the workload is manageable. unstuckstudy was a lifesaver for prep.
Not a great professor. The class is easy if you show up and do the online assignments, but the lectures are a mess. It's almost impossible to follow what is happening in the lectures and it feels like over half the time it's just some irrelevant tangent. However, he is a very nice person and cares about you and your wellbeing.
