She does not review for any tests nor tell you what topics will be on the tests. The grading is very harsh, almost no partial credit. She uses her own language, different from the books which makes it confusing. Finally she pushed through four chapters in two weeks right before the final. Overall she makes an average class far more difficult.
She is not a very good teacher. Her exams are WAY TOO long. Most students did not finish her second exam and it was really hard. The final exam was hard as well. You don't have much time to think when you find a problem a bit challenging on her tests. The homework is graded very harshly and she goes through the chapters very fast.
How in the world I got a 3.8 in this class I'll never know, but the way the exams are set up you're pretty much doomed to fail. The class is difficult and incredibly unclear.
Her lectures are ridiculously boring, and she gives you hardly any indication of what to expect on exams. I thought she was being nice by posting old exams for us to study from, but her final was nothing like the old final exams and so myself and almost everyone in the class did poorly. Try to get a different teacher (or take QMETH) if you can.
Rough class. I've never worked so hard for a class before. I needed the class for admission into my major so I was trying doubly hard, but it was still a lot of work. The schedule is regimented and there aren't a lot of surprises. I didn't do fantastically on the exams, but I did well on quizzes and homework, and got a 3.9. Just do the work!
As for the other's comments about Tamre, they are either spiteful & libellous or she has changed her teaching style an awful lot since then (her teaching style is very organized and concise, and she goes over what is on tests the day before). If you have taken any sort of high school algebra and *read the book*, this class should be easy.
Not a bad teacher. Fell asleep a couple times in class. But I managed to do well. Not her fault crunchying numbers isnt very interesting.
Her lectures are boring and she sometimes gets a little bit too excited about topics and completely loses the class. But all the topics in the class are very understandable and if you actually go talk to her she is very nice. Really easy class
If you read through the book and went over your notes, it was really not too difficult to succeed, although she does have harsh grading on tests/quizzes and hw (takes off a lot of points for small errors)
I took online statistics... it took a while took get assignments back.

This Prof is very straight-forward and very helpful. Just put in the work and understand the concepts, and you'll do well. I read the book and worked hard and got a 4.0!!! she also has a lot of extra credit!
I took her online class. Just took final and we still haven't gotten hw 4 out of 9 graded. Ridiculous. Awkward lady. You can get thru if you discipline yourself and just do hw little by little everyday. It's doable. I'm just saying it was like a online class wt no teacher existent.Only 2 discussions.
If you need to take an online class go ahead, but realize that you will have few opportunities for help.I have only recived one of my assignments back and the quarter is now done. So, As of now I have NO feedback on any of the assignments I turned in except one. I do not recommend unless there is no other option but taking the online section.
Never take her, especially her online class. Her podcasts lectures are really boring. She takes forever to grade my homework and her explanations are hard to understand. She expects you to know how to do STATS in this program or your graphing calculator but you have to learn it by yourself. I got a good grade but all because I read my book.
I took the online class for STAT 311 and received a 3.8..considering the fact that I never even listened to her online lectures, I'd say it's a pretty good grade. Just keep on top of the WebAssign hmwk and the book problems and you'll do fine.
I took her online class and it was really easy. She is super friendly, helpful and willing to set up individual time if you need it. She was always quick to respond to emails or questions. Assignments were graded in a very timely matter and were always up to date. I would definitely recommend her!
She's a wonderful professorâ??nice, competent, and organized. If you are not very good at math, however, I would not recommend taking this class online. It can get very challenging. Your midterm and final exams will make up 65% of your total grade and the actual exams are much different than the sample exams she provides, so make sure you study hard!
I don't get why her easiness rating is low. This is an easy class as long as you read the book and do the practice exams. She is very nice and willing to help. Email her whenever you are stuck! she will even go to campus and teach you one on one. The midterm is really easy (pretty much the same as the practice exam).
I took this course online, and it was terrible. The lessons were short and had little to no clarity. Almost no help from the professor. The book was the only help when it came to understanding this course. Might have been better in-class, but I DO NOT RECOMMEND this class online.
Tamre is AWESOME! She's extremely kind and accommodating if you have a schedule conflict. She was VERY willing to help at all hours. She even answered an email at 1am the night before an exam. Her online lectures were great and being able to pause/replay was awesome. I highly recommend Tamre to anyone needing Stat 311. THANK YOU TAMRE!
Took her online class. Not the best thing when it's my first stats class but still managed to do ok. Somewhat hard to understand through books and slides only but the tutors and tamre are very helpful. Tamre only had one office hour per week but every time I'm there she could clear my doubts. Memorize the definitions!
her class is easy to get a high grade
Easy class, I took it online and had a chilled time with it. Her lectures are super confusing, luckily the textbook was helpful! read the book and ignore lecture = 4.0
I loved this class. As long as you do your homework, and just review the review sheet right before the test day, you'll ace on the test. I never used the textbook and barely studied for this class but got a good grade. Highly recommended
There is no difference between the online class and the lecture session. Honestly skipped most of the lecture because it only made me more confused... Her tests were tricky but if you read the book and do your assigned homework you should do fine in this class
I can't say that I am particularly interested in statistics, but I do feel that I learned a lot. Her lectures are boring (and very short) but comined with the book at least the material comes across. Where I really loved this professor was how fair her tests were. The exams were straightforward and pulled no punches. I felt good after all of them.
Professor Cardoso was friendly and informative. Im not a math person but managed to pull off a good grade in the class. Very reasonable expectations, exams are extremely straightforward (do the practice problems she gives you). I was surprised by how much I learned at the end of the quarter. If you have to take statistics, take this class!
Exams are very similar to the practice exams and have a few points of extra credit. I used powerpoint slides instead of watching her lectures and that was enough to learn the material well.
This class takes time but will pay off if you put in the work. Lectures were a little hard to follow online, I found the book VERY helpful. Online homework is time consuming and redundant but her tests are very fair. She is also very helpful during office hours she wants you to do well!
Took this class online for a prerequisite. As expected, it was a whole lot of homework and not a whole lot of compelling reasons to care. As online classes go, fine, but something needs to change about the way they're run in general... boring and sluggish as tar right now
She's boring and can't explain the material clearly enough.
By far, Cardoso is the worst prof I have ever had! her lectures are short, but are really boring and not useful at all!! her TA is perfectionist, in a bad way though, she will chop off your grade right away! Cardoso and the TA replied email in decades! But I think she does give good grades as her homework & written assignment worth 45ish%.
Her lectures are so boring(Online). I mean for real. Some are like only 10 minutes but you still feel like 2 hours. And she can't explain well enough oh and the most annoying part if she said anything wrong in the powerpoint she would go back to the very first paragraph uhhhhh which cut your mind real quick. I definitely recommend textbook.
While I honestly believe she means well, her teaching style combined with the online classroom simply doesn't work. Very boring and the lectures don't contain much material, mostly had to learn while doing the homework. She also tried to make our online class do group projects, which did not end well.
I took Stat311 online class. Her lectures are extremely boring and useless. I felt so confusing when I was watching the presentation. Many things in the lecture are not covered by her, you need to figure things out by your own. I would say textbook is much more understandable and organized. I will never take her class!!!
I dont think she is very responsible for class stat311. We have had a lot of homework errors when using the online software. She told us to skip the question(the ones had tech errors), but we got zeros for those questions afterwards. This is very irresponsible. On her ppt, basically she is just reading the texts, not explaining. DO NOT TAKE HERS!
by far the worst professor I have ever encountered. Very inattentive and condescending to students. Online homework does not work and students' grades suffer needlessly. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. I'M NOT EXAGGERATING!
Tamre gives excessive amounts of busywork that teaches you nothing. Doesn't seem to care if you understand the material. Oh, and the online homework? Doesn't work well at all (technical problems, vague questions) and will drop your grade so fast!!!! You'd be better off taking the non-online class.
DO NOT TAKE STATS 311 ONLINE EVER! Cardoso is a horrible teacher. She can't explain topics clearly AT ALL. She managed to make really simple statistical ideas, like p-values and t-statistics, overly complicated. I can explain a p-value to a 5th grader, yet Cardoso couldn't explain well enough to most of her class. Horrible teacher, horrible class.
I took Stat 311 online. This was the worst class I've ever taken at UW. Do not reccommend Cardoso.
Material would've been extremely difficult if I hadn't taken a stats class before. Never had to use the textbook. Lectures were thorough but you have to be a natural self-teacher to do well. Super important to make a good note sheet for the exams. Fair grader. From my experiences at the exams, she is not the most warm-hearted.
Lectures weren't very helpful at all. You have to be motivated to learn things on your own and from the textbook if you want to understand whats going on. Lets you have a note sheet for the exams, which is nice.
this class is like a three month long trip to the dentist for a root canal.
Don't expect to get a reply to any sort of email.
Awful lecturing, it was totally my textbook that helped me to pass this course.
The first half of this class is really simple- its your basic stats that you've learned in previous years. Second half however, was extremely difficult. The lectures weren't very helpful in helping you understand the concepts. HW was a waste of time- the questions weren't similar to test q's at all. You get a note sheet for both exams so write smal
I don't want to hurt the professor, but she is just a GPA killer. She recommended us to write the procedure, but no points gain from procedure. The ppt is terrible either. Need to try really hard to stay awake. Even the sapling homework is not so much useful for students
the slides were not very clear and sounds a little bit weird. don't pick her online course
This class is incredibly awful. The PPT is not clear all. Actually, it is not statistics cuz she tests on some weird concepts and you can not even prepare for it. She seldom gives partial credit and the homework is not helpful AT ALL. stat 311 is just a GPA killer class.
The online recordings are short, usually less than half an hour. The Sapling homework was not too difficult but not helpful for studying for exams. However, the practice exam problems were super helpful and similar. You also get one note sheet for exams.
She is not a bad professor, she will go out of her way to help, but will make you work for your grade. The final is kinda hard but study with her and she will help you get the grade that you want. DO NOT PUT THIS CLASS OFF.
she just read the online ppt and i think it has been recored for so long and when she made mistake reading it she will started over. really online learning experience. This is a self study course. But overall the she is very nice and reply email quickly and she is willing to help student.
Took the online class. Her presentations are useless, and the textbook isn't much better. Neither explain the concepts very well. I got by because I already had stats background from high school. Also her presentations, the textbook, the online homework system, and the exam papers sometimes use different symbols or terms for the same thing.
Very hard to understand her and she goes very fast.
Avoid her if you have interests in Stat.
I took her class because some of my friends told me it's easier than the actual one. Then I took it and realized that it was not true. Her arrangement of weekly presentation has many problems. She just read the ppt, really slow responding emails, teaching really really bad!!!!! I would not recommend you to take it, seriously!!!
useless slides and the homework system is like trash, so does the online textbook, which is even required to purchase. And the materials get harder after the midterm.
If you are given with other lectures, please skip it. Sadly, there are not so many TAs to help you, at least not for the online course. Be ready to receive a much lower scores
I present to you the dullest lecturer you have ever had the misfortune of listening to. Her monotone voice is the perfect solution if you need something to fall asleep too and her slides (which she reads straight off of) are so dense it takes 150% of your attention to understand anything. Just hold off and take it next quarter. Also, she sucks.
She just reads the ppt all the time. AND there are a lot of mistakes in the ppt. UW should fire her.
Regardless about her teaching skill, how can a statistic teacher can made a statistical mistake on Mid-term exams??? She recorded one's score under another student's name, which leads to almost 20 points difference. And she did this thing for at least 10 students. After that, she just changed the score online without any explanations.
one of the worst professors I've ever met at UW. She made many mistakes in homework, quiz, and even on midterm score. It's hilarious to see how far she is from rigorous as a statistics prof. Lectures were heavily loaded with knowledge, she made it even worse with her pale explanation. This is the kind of class that taught you how to SELF-STUDY.
Took AP stats my senior year of HS, so this course is SUPER easy--it's basically a review of what's taught in AP. But the way Tamre explains concepts in lecture is awkward and confusing, I wouldn't understand the material if I wasn't already familiar w it. She rambles too, so we always fall behind. HW is easy + 3 midterms and a group project.
If you have a fair math foundation, 220 will easily be a GPA booster for you since it's such an entry-level statistics class, of which the instructor is aware. You get two free points on most tests and the worst test weighs less than the others. Two of lowest grades received on worksheets will also be dropped.
Although she is nice, she is not an engaging professor. She just reads from slides which is unhelpful. Takes forever to put in grades unless you did poorly. In that case, its put in there ASAP ofc. The homework doesn't prepare you for exams however they offer a lot of extra credit. If you can take this course with anyone else, I would do so.
I'm new in stat and took this course before getting in more advance stat classes at the graduate level. She gives lectures mainly based on the textbook, added with examples and intro to R, which is super helpful for the final project. She's mostly available when you email her asking questions, and as long as you read the materials, you'll be fine.
I am not sure why there are so many bad reviews on here because her class is one of the easiest classes I have taken at UW. So much extra credit and super easy tests. It is impossible to not get a good grade. I get it, she is a boring lecturer, but I don't care about that because the class is so easy.
Exams are tested based on lectures. No need for a textbook. She's lovely and accessible for office hours. However, her class is extremely unorganized, there's no syllabus AT ALL, no one has any clue when's the next exam or assignment because only announces them a week before the due date. You gotta teach yourself coding for the R assignment.
Yes, she only reads the PPT. But every single word on the PPT will be useful. Even though the recordings are not fun at all, as long as you follow and think with her, you will never get asleep. She is not the best professor I met at UW but I will never say she is bad because all that she teaches worth it and is highly useful.
Lots of short homework assignments, only gives you a couple days to do them. Also assigns worksheets at the same time and only gives you one day to do those. Lectures move fast and are hard to follow. Are not required to have coding experience, but it helps a little when trying to understand the R code given to compute things for the homework.
This should not be difficult material, but Tamre makes it a nightmare, with lecture videos that are beyond boring, repetitive homework, and bizarre computer coding assignments thrown in for no apparent reason. Worst of all, she is absolutely nasty to students who ask for help, if you're lucky enough to even get a response. AVOID Tamre. Seriously.
-taught myself everything I learned for this class, lectures were awful. -I've had better professors at a community college -TA's don't help -doesn't respond to emails -posted screenshots of student conversations on discord on powerpoint slides -don't expect your grades to be posted and when they are- get ready for a lower than anticipated grade.
Organized prof that is decent. Encourages to ask questions but centered around office hours and after lecture. Lots of hw and worksheets (3+/week). Very paranoid of students cheating. Weird grading (Losing a few pts like 2-3 may chunk your grade). Short quizzes but many parts. She creates practice worksheets that cover quiz topics (v important).
Be prepared for DRY lectures, all she does is read from her power point slides. The class is easy, just do homework and be careful on tests. The R portion of this class is a joke, just go to office hours and you'll probably get most answers.
The other reviews have it right, this is easy material that should be a breeze for any UW student to sail through however this professor somehow manages to make it the most difficult class Im taking this quarter. Class is a mess and prof is super paranoid about cheating, punishes current classes for the actions of previous ones, steer clear!
I get you're going to be paranoid about students cheating and stuff but respect the fact that students in new quarters are not responsible for that. I feel like because she's done this class so much she expects that people know what she knows and just zooms through lectures.
Pretty manageable class as long as you pay attention to the slides, prepare for quizzes, and follow the wording exactly. Never went to quiz section or lecture, but all of it was recorded and the slides are pretty comprehensive. Was honestly expecting worse, but you'll be fine as long as you study with the practice problems and keep up with lectures
Overall a very easy class, quiz sections were very helpful and quizzes were always fair.
The class was online and asynchronous . I didn't realize I would have to learn to use a coding software which kinda sucked. Posted lectures were long and even on 2x speed were too rambling for the time I spent watching them. She provides code chunks but no direction of how to understand it. She was fairly accessible on Ed but not always helpful
One of the worst professors I've ever seen. Doing nothing other than reading slides. Having a feel of learning nothing after completing the course.
This class was graded more on my ability to use the coding software R than my knowledge of statistics.
worst professor i've had
Very harsh grader and does not explain things well at all. Made STAT311 much harder than it should be
This is an asynchronous class to make this class SUPER DIFFICULT. We watched pre-recorded lectures every week, this class is definitely a self-discipline class, which means that you have to actually learn everything by yourself. Try to go to office hours and ask questions on Ed as much as you can, and homework grading could be really TOUGH.
Took during summer so no group projects. All the info is in prerecorded lectures I watched on 2x speed, hw instructions can be vague so definitely go to office hours or ask on Ed for exactly what you need to put down. Details matter!!!
This teacher is condescending and rude. She hands out hours worth of lecture material to be followed by hours worth of homework. She is poor at explaining the content and is not helpful when you reach out asking for help. In fact, she makes you feel stupid for even asking such questions.
Reads off slides for pre-recorded "lectures". HW would be completely fine if expectations were clear and she didn't grade so harshly (though it's mostly completion-based). The class is totally doable but her lack of effort makes it very annoying to complete, and you end up feeling like you didn't learn that much.
There are weekly hw which are worth a chunk of your grade. Only certain questions are graded while the rest is graded on effort. Quizzes were arguably easier than the hw. The TAs and Tamre were awesome and were willing to tell you the answers to any question you had about the hw. My biggest advice is GO TO OFFICE HOURS especially for hw.
Her lectures are worthless and boring. You'll have to learn how to do some basic coding. Takes a long time to grade, even though there is little work done.
If you don't know how to use R, you will be at a disadvantage. I don't dislike her, but I wish she would understand that not everyone knows how to code and her explanations of the coding don't match her high expectations of our knowledge of it. I didn't know what R was when I started and felt very behind throughout the class.
She and the TA's used Ed so a lot of questions were answered quickly. Quizes and Exams were easy if you knew the content. You can drop your lowest quiz out of 3 and the 2 lowest HW grades out of 8. One homework per week, which took about 3-5 hours. The bad part is that her lectures are incredibly boring and hard to follow at times.
DO NOT TAKE IT. The worst class I ever took at UW. It wasn't even that the content was difficult to digest but because her lecture was boring, hard to understand and fast. Not a beginner friendly class if you have never used R-studio either.
