She is an excellent teacher. She isn't easy, but she is VERY fair. I learned a lot from her and I enjoyed her style of teaching. Do and understand your lecture objectives and you will do just fine. She really works hard to make sure you know what you need to in order to succeed.
Awesome! Clearly defined lecture and lab requirements for test purposes. Her tests are straight-forward and not esoteric. She emails all lecture notes and has a comprehensive syllabus and follows it. I thought she was fabulous and one of the best professors at ARC!
I took her in the summer and she was very helpful and fair. she goes by her objectives and her class is very organized. lectures are straight forward. good teacher!
Doesn't waste words or time (hers or yours). Very clear, very fair ... Stay current on the objectives ... study what she says you need to study and you will have nobody but yourself to blame for a poor grade. I would take it again jsut for fun (from her!)
Not as dynamic as some lecturers, but stays on topic, doesn't waste time. Very accomodating and respectful of students. Don't let her easygoing demeanor fool you: tests will be hard. Fortunately, her study objectives are thorough.
I had Tana for the first 4 wks of the summer... she was great. We all thoroughly enjoyed her. Very nice, very approachable, and is extremely fair. She doesn't waste any time, and keeps her promises. TAKE TANA!!!
Great professor. She tells you what you need to learn and even provides her notes on blackboard. Follow her lec/lab objectives and you will pass her class. Her tests are a bit difficult but she is fair. Gives you plenty of time to take exams. Highly recommend.
Intimidated me in the begining b/c she doesn't come off as quite the nicest person but truly is! Is so helpful and she gives you objectives for every chapter. If you KNOW the objectives you WILL get an "A" on every test. I just about did. It was though work but it is MANAGEABLE. I learned a lot!!!
Excellent teacher, very helpful, grades fairly. Gives learning objectives for exams, to help you be ready. I would recommend her strongly. One of the best teachers for Biology.
I took this class for fun! Dr Hoban-Higgins made all the difference! Her notes are fantastic! She is very precise, sticks to the subject matter, answers limited question (wont deviate from class topic...much) Lot to cover in A&P. Her labs are fun. I will be back for more!
She is extremely understanding, lets you make up missed tests. Posts all lecture notes on black board. Keeps you up to date on your grade. Only disappointment is no extra credit.
I took this class over the summer, and i wasnt so bad, i got a B. Her lectures are dull, BUT they are helpful, and she posts her notes on blackboard for everyone. very nice, you can ask her for any kind of help. OH, and take into consideration thats shes famous and has worked with NASA. So she really knows her stuff and is undoubtedly credible.
This was a very hard class, lots of studying is involved, but if you have to take it she is a wonderfull professor to take it from. She posts all of her notes online which is very helpful. Objectives for each chapter are given in advance, if you complete these you are guaranteed to pass...
I TOOK THIS CLASS OVER SUMMER. LOTS OF STUDYING, BUT DR. H WAS GREAT! LECTURES ARE PRETTY DULL AND SOMETIMES USELESS, BUT OVERALL SHE'S AWESOME! IM TAKING HER FOR 431 TOO! THANKS DR. H!
Very hard, very fair. You're going to work a lot more than you probably ever have before.
I only have myself to blame for whatever grade I get. Finals are next week. I figured out too late that her objectives are what is taught in her class. (I tried just reading the book, to no avail)I think she is a great prof who can teach you alot as long as you study according to the objectives she provides. Unfortunately, no E.C. to help.
Tana is one of the best teachers I have ever had! She is helpful & cares if her students succeed. Make sure you do her objective questions!!! These questions are the study guide for her lecture exams. She gives you her notes from lectures...very useful to complete objectives.
I TOOK TANA FOR BOTH 430+431. SHE'S THE BEST A&P TEACHER AT ARC BY FAR! DO HER OBJECTIVES-THEY REALLY HELP IN THE EXAMS. I'M GOOD WITH ANATOMY, NOT SO MUCH WITH PHYSIO,BUT SHE EXPLAINS THINGS CLEARLY AND IN A WAY EVERYONE CAN UNDERSTAND.I ACTUALLY LEARNED TONS! THANK YOU TANA! YOU MADE A&P ALMOST FUN!
She is fantastic. She is by far the best A&P teacher, it is not easy you will have to work hard but an A is possible with her. DO ALL LECTURE OBJECTIVES... seriously the exam questions reflect the objectives.
FOCUS MORE ON HER LECTURE NOTES AND OBJECTIVES THAN YOUR TEXT. USE TEXTBOOK TO SUPPLEMENT YOUR UNDERSTADING BUT YOUR MAIN FOCUS SHOULD BE ON HER LECTURES.VERY HELPFUL.HARD CLASS- FAIR GRADER. VERY GENTLE PERSONALITY.I LOVE HER.TAKE HER IF YOU CAN. BUT BE SELF-DRIVEN TO GET THE GRADE YOU WANT/MULTIPLE QS ARE HARDER THAN ESSAY QS.(OBJ.q ARE ON EXAM)
She and prof. Bystrom (EngWr 300) are the best teachers at ARC!!!!
Great lecturing style. Teacher is just amazing, generous with points on grading and very approachable. Best Prof on campus! Hands down!
She's a g8 teacher! Works w/u if u have learning disabilities! Study lecture notes 4 quizzes & study guide 4 tests & read chapters b4 class so lecture makes more sense. Has gd sense of humor & shes gentle lookin, kind woman! Will curve if she felt ? was confusing or not covered in lecture! Lookin forward to her again in 431!! Have a great summer!!
Love her! Hard class, but she gives objectives for lecture tests along with her notes which answer the objectives, and lists of exactly what will be on lab tests well in advance. Lectures are short and to the point. We always got out 2 hours early. Plenty of extra credit (group jeopardy) as well as e.c. Q's on all exams. Few very easy going labs.
OMG! Beware...it seems this professors changing her testing format! (ie: all the above, none of the above, a and b, a and c, and so on) This how all the lecture tests have been this far!
Yes, it is a hard class...aren't most A & P classed difficult? If you do the study guide,HW and come to lecture you should do fine. What you put into this class, is what you get out of this class. Thanks Prof. your the best!
Great professor.Yes, her tests are kind of hard but her notes and objectives really help studying for the tests. It's really helpful to read the book along with her notes.Love her labs. If you put enough time into studying you will be rewarded. Learned a lot in this class.
She was one of the best and sweetest professors I have had. Her lectures were clear, and she was always willing to help. Her class is hard, but if you work hard, you will do well in the class. She gives great study guides. It does not matter what class you take in A&P, it will kick your behind. If you don't want to work, don't take A&P.
She is the best teacher I ever had.
Lecture tests are hard, study her posted notes and supplement with the book. Will curve 1 test if the whole class does bad. Offers extra credit. Gives you a list for Lab practicals to choose correct answer. No need to correctly spell!
I took Dr. Hoban-Higgins for Bio 430 and 431. Her lectures are spot-on and she is extremely patient. This is not an easy subject, so there is no easy A. If you attend class, read the book and use all the supplementals (mastering A&P, etc), you will get an A. (And she always asks extra credit questions on the tests!)
her class was fun, and it felt like there was no pressure which allowed me to receive a good grade, she's not an easy prof. but she gives you so much help it makes the test easier for you to understand, she gives some xtra credit, take her, you will learn the material and succeed in her class.
A lot of bark, no bite. Lots of cheating, no repercussions. Prof not an honest grader. Document document document. Even then, GOOD LUCK! Don't worry about WORKING for the grade you want, just ask for it at the end and she'll give it to you- true story as it has happened for many.
Hoban-Higgins is an amazing professor! She is very clear and succinct with the presentation of her lecture material. It is imperative that you attend every class & make the most of your lab time. In addition be prepared to put in about 15-20 hours extra a week in order to get an A. This is not an easy class! She is fair but you will need to work!
Dr. Hoban-Higgings Is an amazing woman. She is such a sweet little lady. A&P is a very hard class with any teacher but Tana works with you. You could leave almost any class period but you're responsible for your work and grade. DO the objectives and know them if you want a good grade. Great teacher I would deff. recommend her. <3
Dr. Hoban Higging is a great professor bc she will tell what she wants from you,do objectives, study lab lists and there's a very good chance you will succeed. Also, do study groups. Her physio ex assignments can be done in groups and she's understanding is life happens or if you cannot make it to a class meeting. She's also super nice.
Great teacher. Study guides for test/lab=answer those in pen, go over. offers A LOT of extra credit everywhere-labs, tests, and lecture. Down to earth professor even though she works for NASA as well. amazing!
Allows cheating in her classroom and no repercussions! If you want to get a good grade just cheat you will be fine.
This was an extremely tough course especially in the summer. I am a straight A student but I had to work very hard for this A. Professor Hoban-Higgins is good at what she does but you are going to have to do your part too. Study her lecture notes and objectives from D2L and supplement with the text.
It's been only the 2nd week of school. & this teacher is already disorganized. Lecture should be 1-2 hrs, but she would only led in less than an hour. Lab would be 3 hrs but it would only be 1 hr? She would excuse class HOURS early. She's not using her time wisely. She just talks. Her power point slides are crap.
Don't waste your time. Her lectures are bad. Self learn and do it yourself class. I wish she had better power points. They didn't make sense and her lecture all over and not consistent with textbook. Skipped a lot of stuff but wants you to know it.
Don't take this class! We don't even have wet lab and professor just gives you lab answers and you have to google for your answers because no real labs are done. I feel robbed of my education. Her lectures are confusing and she writes all over the board and it doesn't make sense. She expects you to know what's on the textbook but won't lecture it.
This professor can not and will not lecture, lectures are no more than 15-20 mins and that's it and then everyone leaves class. Skips important part in lecture and say you'll read that in the book, one chapter she didn't even lecture and said to just study it in the book. Quiz, lab exam and lecture exams every week. it moves fast. Good luck
Highly recommended. I loved Hoban-Higgins. She is a little soft spoken, so sit in the front. Her lectures are to the point, no fillers. Don't get me wrong... you'll still have to study your tail off to remember it all, but there was never a test ? that wasn't in my notes. Plus, when not grading, she studies the effects of space travel! how cool!
I had to work my butt off for this class to get an A. It was incredibly hard esp because her lectures were unclear. You need to read the book and understand the foundation if you want to do well on lab exams and lecture exams and get ready to like to write short essay answers. I wouldn't recommend her unless you like to learn on your own!
She is helpful and is there if you have questions. Overall a good professor. Her PowerPoint for lectures was pretty pathetic, get ready to improvise and use other resources to learn. She gives plenty of extra credit to make up for tough exams. So you have plenty of opportunities to improve your grade by answering as many extra credit questions.
Do the objectives and get clarity on it if you're unsure. She's pretty straight forward on what she wants on exams and quizzes. Hard course but doable. Just study her lect notes, do objectives and read the chapters. Lots of work but it's interesting and can be fun if you apply yourself. Get into a study group. A must! Study study study
The Bio class is very hard, you have to put lots of work and time by self studying if you want to get good grade. The professor is great that she gave the students lots of chances to get lots of extra credit in order to pass the class and get good grades. Moreover, professor gave us the study guides every test that we knew what exactly to study.
8 Lab and 8 Lecture exams. Lab exam study guide will list terms.(ex. bone names, muscle names) Learn those terms and you are guaranteed an A on the lab exams. Lab study guide is identical to test. Lecture exams have a study guide. Use notes she provides on d2l for study guide questions. Know them inside out. Incredibly clear cut. No easy A in A&P
Very helpful professor, don't be afraid to ask for clarifications. She gives lots of extra credit opportunities. She's soft-spoken though so be really attentive in class. If you can, stay a bit longer in class to go over the anatomical models. Go over the objectives and lab lists. Read the book and try to get into study groups too.
Ive only been in her class for 3 weeks and already I really appreciate this professor. She is very soft spoken but as long as you read ahead, pay attention and use the resources she provides you will do well. Just be prepared to spend at least 6 hrs a day on this class.
lab tests are easy but lecture tests are riduculous very tricky questions most of the questions on her tests are in the format of A and B is correct, A and C is correct, all of the above, none of the above, this is how all her tests are. You have to really know your stuff to get a good grade on lecture tests.
she's the best professor i had. She is super nice and helpful. She's always there if you need help. The tests are hard and the lab is easy if you study the terms. This whole semester i had tough time in my liffe so i could't really focus much in this class. I would take her again if i could.
Amazing professor!! Really helps students to succeed! a lot of extra credits, 8 very difficult lecture exams( half multiple choice, half short answer essay). 8 lab exams are easy as long as you study. make sure to study at least 5 hours a day. form a study group, it will help you succeed. STUDY LECTURE OBJECTIVES FOR TEST!
8 Lab 8 Lec exams, Lab exams really easy if you're good at memorizing things. Lec exams are crazy failed nearly all of them. Her lectures are horrible just print the lecture notes from online teach yourself. Get caught cheating? You just get a 0 for that one quiz or exam just dont get caught next time make up those lost points on the other 10+ exam
took this class over summer and it wasn't that bad. gives you everything you need to get an A and LOADS OF EXTRA CREDIT. stay in lab and go to open lab for lab exams lec exams are tricky but doing the objectives helps!!
She is amazing. She's really difficult with lecture but everything else is very simple. Lab exams are straight forward identifying. Lectures are extremely difficult. Theres extra credit given on tests and two extra credit assignments. She will really help you if you ask. Definitely recommend her
Took this class in the summer and it was so much easier than I expected! She is an awesome and really straight forward prof. You can leave when you finish lab, and sometimes I would skip lab and just do it at home bc she lets you know when she will be checking it. Most chill professor! Super nice too!
Dr. Hoban-Higgins is an amazing professor! 6 Lab Exams, 7 Lecture Exams, 7 Quizzes (2 lowest are dropped). She does provide extra credit throughout the semester, and she listens to feedback. Lectures are heavy and there is a lot of content to cover, so be prepared to read and understand the material. She definitely prepares you for your careers!
Very passionate about the subject still decides to each even after her chemo and surgeries. She listens to students' feedback or concerns regarding the course. Lec and Lab exams are all laid out in each chapter objectives so study those and you'll be set! Pay attention and ask questions and she will try her best to guide you through the materials
Shes a sweetheart, gives you lecture notes and reads right off of them so if you miss class you will probably be fine. you can study straight from those while only skimming the book for parts not well understood. Labs easy, physiology is hard written questions start off Tough Answer all parts of Q Include all details specifically more is better
The lecture notes were really helpful, she reads right off of them. Laboratory exams are not too bad. Lecture exams are hard. Format is a,b,c, a&b, a&c, all of above or none of above. You really have to know your stuff. She gives lecture objectives. Took in in summer, 8 lecture exams, 8 lab exams, 8 quizzes 2 lowest are dropped. Hard to get that A
Seemed scattered at times. She needs to speak up it's hard to hear her. Not clear on her required homework guidelines; unsure what homework to do and turn in at times. Inconsistent with her work and her powerpoints didn't seem to match her exams/qiz. Very frustrating especially since this is a heavy information type of class. Read the book instead.
This class is hard. She makes it as easy as she can but its up to you how you do in the class. Get ready to study there are 14 midterm exams. There are 7 lecture exams and 7 lab exams. Get ready to study. But take her, she offers learning objectives for every chapter and extra credit on every exam.
Graded on a 12 pt scale (66%-C/ 77%- B/ 88%-A). She is a good professor, it's the material she has to teach that's difficult. Posts notes that outline everything you need to know for exam. 7 lec and 7 lab exams and 7 quizzes. You really need to try hard to fail. The lab exams are an easy A. Lec exam hard. So its balanced. She's very fair. STUDY!!
This professor isnt a great lecturer. Clearly understands the material, but has hard time translating it for students. Only drops 2 quizzes ( 5pts each). Lab exams are easy and straight forward. Lecture exams are VERY hard. Doesnt give out study guides so everything in the chapter is fair game. Class was unorganized - wouldnt recommend.
I feel like the subject is already really hard enough she has a hard time explaining it in terms that are understandable you are mostly going off of her study guides which I felt were not 100% helpful with the tests her lab exams are not bad, the lecture exams are a hard, I did appreciate her grading scale though 77% for a B 88% for an A STUDY!
Dr. Hoban-Higgins made this class enjoyable. She seems to thoroughly enjoy teaching about the human body and tries to make light of some of the bodily systems. She encouraged class participation and did not lecture for long periods of time. She provides so much helpful material and if you study consistently, you will pass.
Coming from a straight A student: DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR! I study 40+ hours a week and fail almost every lecture exam. Her test qs are so specific so even if you complete the ch. objectives it won't matter bc she picks the tiniest details in the book as test questions. Her essay q's are ridiculous! You need to be so specific or you'll lose pts.
To the people giving her less than a 4 are just being ridiculous. I will say her lecture exams are indeed difficult BUT the lab exams are super easy, straight out of the book! Couple extra credit chances and every exam can give you 4 extra credit questions. 88% is a A, 77% is a B, etc. Im most likely passing with a B(85%), A is possible for anyone
I would not recommend her if you are seeking an A. It is nearly impossible no matter how hard you try. I barely passed because of her grading rubric which I guess is a plus. Most of the students I studied with were in the same boat and we even went the extra mile to email her begging for help to which her response was basically your on you own here
It is a very hard class so make sure to study. The class consists of 14 exams. Lab exams are fairly easy. Lecture exams are however very difficult.
She is the best on teaching. Throughout the semester there are 14 exam lab and lectures. Her class is tough ,you would need to study a lot.
Homework (LM/Mast/PX assignments) are VERY easy points to complete. Offers lots of opportunities for extra credit (In short assignments and every exam). Textbook, atlas and PAL are helpful resources. 14 exams gets tiring, but you can get through it. Do well in the beginning of the semester! The material gets harder overtime, so it will pay off.
Summer Course - overall kind prof.! Was willing to help after class. However organization for the class wasn't helpful. Provides additional material for exams but requires a lot of reading. Exams are both multiple choice and short answer but are very detailed/specific. As any science course, would NOT recommended taking over 8weeks.
Always very helpful and made the lectures easy to understand. Way better than my last professor for this class. Make sure to read the lectures notes for the Lecture exams. She offers extra credit opportunities both on all the exams and other assignments. I feel like this is what A&P should be like for people who are first taking a class like this.
Sweet Professor but definitely has trouble explaining concepts. Lectures were short and not helpful. Reads off the slides - rarely elaborated on topics. Provides materials to memorize but I recommend taking someone else if you really want to understand the body systems. She does however provide a large amount of EC and is very understanding.
Do not take this, professor. She is nice, but her class structure is not fair at all. She makes the lecture tests confusing and twisted. Those students giving 3 or 4 are ridiculous; she does not drop tests either.
Professor Higgins is an excellent professor who understands the needs of her students. Course materials are study guides, AP book, and PowerPoint lectures. The class is challenging, dedicating at least 2 hours daily to studying. Fourteen exams-7 for lecture and 7 for lab. Professor Higgins also offers extra credit opportunities to her students.
I will be honest professor Higgins is extremely nice, caring and sweet she always helps her students there are some policies in her class for example a 66% is a C 77% is a B and 88% is an A, she does not drop exams but curves the lowest but the lecture tests are extremely hard I got the C because I got it in summer; take her you won't regret it!
I took this class summer 2024 semester; the class itself was hard to say the least because of the quick pace with 2 exams per week. Professor Hobban-Higgins is amazing and helpful and made the class a bit easier. Multiple choice questions were confusing but this class is doable if you put in lots of effort and time. Lots of extra credit.
This professor is helpful for asking questions, however, is not passionate about the subject. She lectures short, that doesn't go in detail for the actual exam. Take someone else instead!
reads off her slides for lecture. Gave us a lecture objective with material to study for but it was NOT helpful coming from a straight A student. She twists the questions on exam. Labs are easy. Impossible to keep up with 14 exams. Allows cheating. Half of class has been cheating. The other half that are trying are BARLY MEETING the grade,UNFAIR!!!
She is one of the sweetest professors I have ever had. She's not a though grader, labs are easy, lectures are a little bit hard but its bio 430 you have to study.
