This class is easy. 5 essays & a final. The final is editing a paper. Extremely easy. If you need a blow-off Eng class...I suggest T. Shannon. He is a guy by the way..don't let the name fool you. He will help you greatly if you ask. Only requires you to go to the writing center once. Cool to talk to

5 essays. he grades difficult. but if you ask for help, he trys his best.
Great teacher .. very nice guy.. i scheduled him for next semester for english comp 2 .. take his class ..
T.Shannon is awesome!! Take this course!! 5 essays and a final (which is editing an essay) He is so nice and will let you turn essays in late and he grades hard but if you ask him to edit your essay before you turn it in...you will get a good grade.
he was so easy!!! I never made less than a 98 on any of his papers. as long as u utilize the writing center ur gonna make an a and he likes the fact that u take the time to go. great teacher easy a
very easy
Great guy! Easy class! Do the papers, turn them in on time and you'll get an A!
I love this guy. He was always willing to help you out even if he saw that you werent trying. He shows favortism to people who come to class.. I got an A
Great Professor! Pretty easy... however, u will have essays back to back (5 in all) including a 6 page problem/solution essay w/ a powerpoint presentation! I made an A in the class!
Extremely unclear. :-/
cool dude
he's a great teacher. essays are moderate difficulty. i made an A. he makes you go to the writing center.. at first i hated going but the center really helped my essays. overall he's one of the best english teachers for ENG165
He is an alright prof. in 265 we read an essay every week then we would have a quiz. we also had practical quizes over time periods and authors. We only had to write two essays and had two tests. He cares how you do in his class and is willing to help out and give extra credit every once and a while. and come to class!!!!
Professor Shannon is a good professor...I liked the way he went around the room and helped out the students. He gave each student at least five minutes out of the class to help them with their papers. He's an approachable guy and is willing to help you and answer any quesions.
He is an amazing English professor. Go to class, pay attention, visit his office at least once and you have an A. Essays are not difficult at all, visit the writing center and you've got an A!!!
He's inspired me to pursue something along the lines of writing with his enthusiasm towards his work. He has no problem communicating with students. I would recommend him to anybody who has to take english.
This guy is amazing. i cant stand English and loved this class. he will help you with anything you need, and is very friendly. We had 4 essays all semester and did most of the writing or work in class. If you can TAKE PROFESSOR SHANNON!
he is very nice and approachable and understanding. 4 to 5 essays in the class, and a over the reading that is assigned with each essay. like 3 questions each quiz. we've turned in 3 essays now and my grade is a 103. (GIVES extra credit a lot!!) i loved his class...recommend others to take it, if u try...u should pass with at LEAST a B!
He is a very easy teacher we wrote 4 essays the longest is 1200 words.
He is very fair. He gives many opportunities for you to raise your grade. You don't have to attend class every single day but I recommend it. He makes the subject interesting, and actually cares about his students.
Very good professor! His class isn't hard. Make sure you attend and do your work. All we did was write four essays. He is very essay to work with and will tell you what your mistakes are.
Shannon was so awesome. He's really nice and very helpful. I recommend taking him whenever possible.
easy A. just do the work! very helpful! def recommend him!
Prof. Shannon is a great teacher. He displays a real interest and passion for the subject through he is teaching. As long as you listen carefully to his lectures, take good notes, and do the homework and assignments, a good grade is easily attainable.
Prof. Shannon is a great teacher! the class isn't too hard but you do about 5 papers during the semester and he is great! He is so helpful and will let you know when the tests and quizes are and I highly recommend him!
Take Him!!! Easy class. Only 5 papers. Good grader. Eplains everything well. He is a very comprehensive man, he will work with you. I highly recommend him.
He really helps you become a better writer. Super nice and is always helpful. He's a cool guy too. But dont procrastinate! Go to the writing center and do the extra credit. And theres not a whole lot of reading. I highly recommend this class.
Extremely helpful, Fair, Treats people with respect, professional. do the extra credit don't procrastinate go to the writing center and you will be fine.
grrreeeaaat
He is wonderfully easy yet teaches you a lot. The assignments are simple and the quizzes are easy. Just do the work, which isn't difficult, and you will excel in this class. If you struggle, he will go out of his way to help you and make sure you understand. Great GPA booster.
Well, tons of essays and a ton of requirments that go with it. Boring class, never I mean never got out early ever! I was 50 points away from a B out of 2000 and he wouldn't not be helpful, never missed a class either! Dont take if you hate A LOT of writing!
super cool guy! def made me a better writer and made the class easy to get a good grade. he always has "surprise quizzes" but he warns you about most of them and he usually only asks the title or main idea of the reading. I highly recommend him!
He is a great teacher make sure you keep up to date on your reading assignments. He's very open minded and awesome. Only wrote 4 essay's.
Fantastic professor! Great class! Do the work (which really isn't too much), and you will be fine. Great GPA booster! So easy to get an A.
Essays: you will write 5. Go to the writing center 2X and do an extra critique ans edit draft. These are work 5-10 extra points on your paper grade. Quizzes: I would read right before class, main idea and thesis is what he asks about. There is a lot of work in this class, but it isnt hard. He is so helpful, I would love to take him again. Fave prof
Very nice guy. Assigns 5 essays that counts for 50% of your final grade. Each essay your able to earn extra credit, take advantage of this! very easyyyyy class.
I loved going to his class. Its really laid back. He talks a lot, but he's very jolly with it. Always smiling. Makes my days. There are only 4 essays and all of them allow for "makeup"/extra credit. Assigns reading assignments and quizzes you on them. They're not horrible though. Definitely taking his 1302 class. You can tell he loves his job!
Mr. Shannon is a really nice guy, he comes into the class always smiling. Has a good attitude and doesn't make you feel stupid when you ask a question. I recommend him for 1301 and I've been told the other teacher is awful. My only problem with his teaching how he explains grammar and punctuation, but that might be just me for not understanding it
5 essays total. he requires you to do alot of work with them, a majority online. you have reading quizzes and practical quizzes over grammar stuff. you are constantly doing something in this class so be prepared for that. not a difficult class but, to get an A you have to have some effort
Prof. Shannon is obviously passionate and talented when it comes to English. He is a great teacher and gives you many chances for extra credit. If you get offered the role of group leader TAKE IT. This class is not too much work, and he is super nice and understanding! I learned great writing skills, and life lessons!
Professor Shannon is a good professor. There is 5 essays throughout the semester and reading and grammar quizzes so you do need the books. He is very strict on grammar when it comes to his essays. Just take notes and you should do fine.
He is a great teacher. There are five papers and quizzes over reading but overall a very simple class. If you go to him with questions or concerns he will guide you through. GO TO CLASS even if he says you don't have to, I went before Thanksgiving break and I was the only one there and he helped me write my entire intro and outline.
Prof. Shannon is a fantastic teacher! He is very funny. You must buy the reader because there are quizzes every week, but they are very easy if you read. 4 essays that are big part of your grade. If you need help, just ask him and he's really great about helping. Have to work for an A! Definitely taking his composition 2 class!
He is one of the greatest English teachers I have ever had. Attendance is mandatory, but the way he teaches makes you look forward to the next class. He is also really helpful. I HIGHLY recommend him, especially if you're not that good in English. He also wrote a book so reading it prior to taking the class will buy you some brownie points.
Great professor! 4 essays throughout the semester, a mid term, and a final. Has reading assignments most nights, and for the reading you don't know when he will give you a quiz, so make sure to read! grammar quizzes are put on the schedule so you know in advance when they are. very supportive and caring about all of his students!!
He is a very good professor although you must work for an A. There's extra credit for each paper, so it helps making an A. He do assign readings followed by a quiz. Over all, its a pretty decent class. You just have to work for the A
Mr. Shannon is a great teacher! He has a lot of respect for his students. There's about 5 essays throughout the semester and up to 6 reading and practical quizzes, but he offers some make up credit with those. And the essays aren't that long. 750-1000 words. He requires a writing center visit for each essay. There's usually a month turn over.
Starting off, I hated him. I thought he was too tough and I expected to fail his class. After I tried to work harder I got used to it and this ended up being my favorite class. He gives extra credit opportunities on all the essays! Make sure to read! He quizzes you on all the readings. Overall he is a great professor. Taking him again for 1302!
Good professor, wouldn't have taken the class if I didn't have to but I am glad I took him for it. Basically the entire semester is writing papers, he makes you do peer reviews and you must go to the writing center for every paper. Gives quizes that are short and not forgiving on your grade so read the reading assignments.
Mr. Shannon is a great professor that I would recommend to anyone. He choses group leaders (I was one) so for the first classes, show that you are willing to help and care about learning and hopefully you get chosen. This allows you to not have to take your final if you are making an A. He was so helpful and explained things clearly. taking 1302.
can I first say he and I have become friends! hes awesome and is so laid back. he doesn't have many tests, you read a lot and take quizzes but you almost always get a's on essays if you try and use good evidence. gives extra credit and is understanding ( extends deadlines). hes older so don't take him if you don't like slow talkers and cheesy jokes
lots of reading quizzes(20-40 pgs/quiz). He is a really nice and chipper guy, and also helpful if you want help. assigns 5 essays, and has 2 tests(only 10% of overall grade). It's a little tough until the last month, then, he gives you a break on reading and quizzes. Make sure to do all EC. Laborious class, but you can definitely learn a lot.
Great Professor. I learned so much from him and even became a better writer. I had his class at 8 am so I wasn't always up to g to english class but he gives you 3 skip days and also lets you come in later that day to make up the class you missed in another class of his.
he is a very passionate teacher about literature but the class is overall ALOT of work, you will have an essay a practical or reading quiz an exercise and group work all due in the same week. While he is an easy grader, its still a course load and he doesn't really understand that. He is a great teacher!! offers extra credit for every essay
He gives A LOT of assignments. Pros: gives opportunity to boost your grade Cons: TOO MUCH WORK. 10 grammar quizzes. 10 reading quizzes. 5 essays, writing center appt. required. Midterm and Final Test. Get ready for work, but you will learn
Shannon is a great teacher. he does give many quizzes based off the reading so if you want to pass make sure to read what he tells you to
Shannon was a great professor for 1301 so much I also took him for 1302! He's really caring about his students & if you struggle he will not hesitate to help. Thanks to professor Shannon I've become a better writer. the class has a lot of work but it's easy! 10 reading quizzes & 10 grammar quizzes along with 5 different essays & extra credit
Professor Shannon is amazing. He assigns a lot more work than other English professors but he doesn't grade very hard. Class is an easy A if you do your work and use the writing center's advice to fix your essays. If you've struggled with English before take him and I promise you'll get a ton better at writing.
A REALLY GOOD professor for an intro to English. His class is heavily dependent on essays, in my case, but becomes easy if you do your best and do the extra credit for every essay. He really does teach you as to how to approach and deliver an essay of college level, and gives great feedback on essays and questions.
He gives you a lot of reading assignments from two different books. 5 grammar and 5 reading quizzes. 5 Essays (one in class). He offers 20 extra credit points for every essay. He's a nice guy with corny jokes. Easy grader, I was B english student at high school, but he gave me an A in every essay. He offers a lot of make up credit.
Prof. Shannon is one of those teachers that make you work for your grade through essays, but overtime you'll begin to see some progress in your writing abilities. He has a very clear format on every essay rubric on what to turn-in and what the assignment of the essay is. Also, the essays make up for most of the grade of the class.
Worst professor ever, did not help when specifally asked for it. Doesn't respond to important emails either. Just doesn't care.
Mr. Shannon is a good professor. His class sessions can feel like a bit of a drag, but if you work hard and show him respect he is willing to help you in return. He is a very kind person who enjoys helping students learn.
He is a really good teacher overall, but get ready to read your textbook every week. He is a pretty tough grader on essays but he gives a lot of extra credit opportunities on each essay he gives. He tries to make the class fun which is a nice touch.
He is an amazing teacher, decide to take him for Comp 1302 too. One mid term and one final, has reading and practical pop quizs. Five essays: three you have two weeks, one is in class that takes like 20 mins, last one you get a month to do. Easy to pass if you do your work. I walk in the first day of class and said that I hate English, got an A.
Most of class was spent him talking about grammar (which is fine but spending whole hour talking about commas is a bit excessive) or random stories or about his book. When he grades your paper he tells you to change certain words which changes your tone into things he would say himself (which is not okay because it is YOU who is writing not him).
I am currently in his class right now and he seriously will assign a 25 page story for you to read for almost every single class we have. For example, on tuesday he will make us read a 25 page story then the next thursday he will test us over it and assign another one for next class. There is never a curve either! EXTREMELY BORING CLASS TOO
He was a really great professor, allowed 40 points of extra credit. he does assign lots of homework but as long as you do it you should be fine. He is very big on the effort so if you show that you care it's an easy A. He has 2 in-class essays, 3 regular essays 12 quizzes, 5 at home assignments, a midterm, and final multiple choice 50 questions.
Professor Shannon was one of the best professors I had at Sam. He was attentive to his student's needs, and he always knew how to find and highlight their strengths while working with them on their weaknesses.
There is a lot of coursework, but as long as you keep up with it, you'll do fine. He grades a bit hard on papers, but gives great feedback and extra credit.
Professor Shannon is a very good English 1301 professor. He does grade very hard and makes you work for your grade. He offers a lot of help and feedback for essays.
He is a very good teacher, so patient about their student and funny. If you read the stories he assigned you to no need to worry about to class even if your essays are not good enough as long as you try to write it better he gives you another chances to write it again. I am planing to take his composition 1302 class next semester.
While his class revolves around writing 4 papers, they are each of decent lengths and you can choose your own topic each time. He provides plenty of feedback and examples, and you spend most of his classes writing your essay or peer editing and helping others. I was intimidated at first by the amount of essays but by the end it was easy.
His rubrics for his essays required a lot of us, and if you didn't go to the writing center for an essay he would take points off. He's not a bad teacher but you could probably find better.
GREAT PROFESSOR. Prof. Shannon helped me greatly as I had a month long stay in the hospital during the middle of the semester. Super accessible, very passionate, and willing to go the extra mile. Would definitely take this professor again.
Tannie Shannon is a great professor, however, beware of many pop quizzes, and long essays. The material is not difficult but make sure you pay close attention. The lectures are boring, just because he talks in monotone, but he is always there to help. Offers tons of extra credit but I sadly did not take advantage so I'm struggling with a C-.
Professor Shannon is a great professor. I would have not been as successful in the class had it not been for him. This is his first time teaching English 3330, but he is without a doubt the best professor for the course. The course is not easy but compared to the other classes with other professors, it was a breeze. In the end I enjoyed the course.
I was terrified to take this class, however, Shannon made it so fun and understandable. This was his first time teaching the class and he was great. There were 4 major documents, minors assignments a mid-term and a 20-page manual done in a group. If you do your work and ask questions when needed you will do great. Will recommend.
Professor Shannon cares about his students and will help you if you struggle. There is a 25 page paper due at the end of the semester with a group. More than half of the classwork is group work so if your group doesn't work its hard to get a good grade. Weekly quiz over grammar and book work so you HAVE to read. we were first class so 'twas rough
Mr. Shannon was the best English professor Ive ever had!
Took him fall 2020. He was a great teacher! The work was tedious but he was always willing to help and assist. A lot of the bigger chunks of the grades came from group work but if your group did what they had to do it was not that bad. I would recommend him!
Professor Shannon is one of the good ones. He cares about his students and is very accessible outside of class. There are a lot of quizzes and assignments in this course. Be prepared to put in the work and study as well. He offers extra credit and is pretty understanding. I would take again. Should get an A or B.
Greatest English professor Ive ever had. All assignments in his class are relevant to whatever career youre trying to get into. There are quit a bit of assistants but nothing is too hard and he gives plenty of time on them. He does offer extra credit. Very accessible outside of class. Very clear grading criteria. Highly recommend you take him!
Hes okay. I would recommend taking someone else there is way to much work weekly and he grades hard on major documents. So, take advantage of all the extra credit that he provides. He is a great man and very knowledgeable. But this class consists of a lot of work. If you have a full time job. Do not take this class.
HE IS AWESOME TAKE HIM. I hate writing, but he made this class so enjoyable. While there is a lot of coursework, it is very organized and he is pretty lenient. When in doubt email him, HE WILL HELP YOU!!!! I bugged the crap out of him all semester and he emailed me back with friendly, witty, happy to help responses. Group projects all semester.
Professor Shannon is truly the best English professor I've ever had. At first, it may seem a bit intimidating because of the amount of class work and projects but he is extremely helpful! He's quick at responding emails too! TAKE HIM!!!
