She is very helpful and is always looking to improve her class and assist her students. She pushes you to ask questions. Makes more than enough help available in order to do well in this class. She is down to Earth and I would definitely take her class again!
Honestly, she is a great professor really understanding and wants everyone to pass. You get partial credit for just trying and turning stuff in. The class in general is just not structured well and is very confusing.
Professor Wickliff is a good teacher. I had problems with my group for ENGR 111, and my team mates and I emailed her and she was understanding with our issues.
Excellent professor. She cares about her students and wants all of the students to pass with good grades. She's a helper.
Excellent professor. Taught a class that was not specific to her degree and education but did an exceptional job working through her TA's. She took the time to help a lot of my friends outside the classroom with advice and recommendations. Extremely clear in what she expects and is very fair in resolving issues that arise in class.
The exams were really hard and from left field. There was one problem that I only knew how to do because I had taken chemistry. It required a formula that she never taught... the class was really disorganized and hard to follow. Do NOT recommend.
Horribly structured class. No structure, actually. First few weeks were torture, but once you realize no one else knows what's going on either it gets a lot better. Neither tests nor class curved, but impossible tests were graded fairly easy. Multiple coding assignments due at the end of the week, 2 tests no final. Extra credit ops here and there.
She assigned a ton of homework over the first 3 weeks of class, our class ended up being like 5 chapters ahead of every other class. However, after that it eased up a lot. She was a nice lady and tried her best to help every one succeed in the class. The second half of the class is a group project, so you just have to hope you get a decent group.
At first, I thought the class was gonna be very cutthroat, but Wickliff has made me grow to love engineering despite barely having any experience with it in high school. She respects any level of work ethic put into her class; however, she will not hesitate to give you a zero if you don't turn in your homework before the deadline.
ENGR 112 will be hard no matter who you take it with. Wickliff was very understanding - she moved deadlines around a lot to work with student schedules. She changed plenty of requirements for the lego project making it hard to know what she expects. Get a skilled coder on your team. MATLAB project takes time. Do not expect high scores on the exams.
If you're completely blind and cannot read a powerpoint yourself, this is the prof for you. Barely teaches any content besides blatantly reading slideshow after slideshow and expecting it to stick. But hey, on the bright side she does push an occasional Friday due date to Sunday evening.
A bit confusing until you understand the structure of the class. She's a nice lady and tends to move around due dates a lot to work with students, but the TAs do a majority of the work. Homework is individual, but in-class assignments are in groups, so you'd better be prepared to get along well with who you sit with. An overall decent class, though
Mrs. Wickliff is one of the best profs for ENGR102 due to her class structure. She has mostly reasonable assignments, but is strict about deadlines. Most grading/tests are handled by the TA's, but she does give lectures and writes the final. Lectures can run long, but she reasonably cover the content. I'd recommend her, but she isn't exceptional.
Good prof, extends deadlines and is very understanding of when a project takes a little longer or what is going on that weekend. Does take a little bit to respond to emails but is helpful.
Kind professor. Not the most organized prof I've ever seen, but is very willing work with the class (extend deadlines) if there were any common issues. Only major gripe was unclear expectations , and I do wish she have more instructions in writing (email, forum, etc.) rather than just comments during class.
ENGR 102 isn't super organized in itself, but she made it easy to get an A. Doesn't really follow the syllabus but homework and group assignments were consistent. Class is graded by the TA's but Tanya extended the deadlines if she saw we didn't have enough time.
The information presented in class was unrelated and scattered over a variety of topics, however, Wickliff did a pretty decent job of teaching the material each week. There was also a 3-hour group lab for the class each week (7 labs) for about 70% of the grade, but the in-class TA's aren't very knowledgeable/helpful (Wickliff does not teach this).
Since ENGR 217 is a joke, she is doing the best she can. She is super reasonable and reviewed a grade that I felt was unfair.
Sh is not a very good prof, i know this is a hard class but there is very little teaching going on. She reads off slides and that it. They expect you to know how to code before you even start coding.
She assigns homework the first week or two of the semester and never assigns anything for the rest of the semester. Expect nothing to be graded by her until finals week. She is a great person and cares a lot about her students' success however her lectures seemed thrown together at the last minute.
Professor who knows what she is doing and wants her students to get ahead in their academic career. Gives good advice about career planning. As for coursework, she just lectures off slides and that is it; she leaves the learning to you on your own time. If you can own up to learning the material by yourself, you will manage. The coursework is hard.
I had to Q-Drop this class so I didn't fail it. Prof. Wickliff isn't the worst professor in the world; She is very willing to help and is a nice woman. My main issue was the lack of organization in her class. She had 4 drop boxes in 1 eCampus so it was a struggle turning things in correctly. She was also hit and miss when uploading slides and notes
Class was super hard, she only read from slides, and her TAs basically did all the work. Labs were tough, but tests were even tougher. Felt like the hard labs and tests were over things we hadn't even learned.
Very unorganized. She gave no effort. Nice lady tho.
Dr Wickliff is a fine teacher. She explains things pretty well and is willing to help students. However, about half of my grades were done the last week of class, so I had no idea what my grade would be. Tests and assignments can be tough, but are pretty heavily curved so not a lot to worry about.
I'm almost 100% certain that she doesn't understand what she's teaching. During lectures, she simply reads from the PowerPoint and can't answer questions very well. This class is easy if you've already had experience with programming, even if it's minimal. It can be a challenge to understand everything if this is your first time programming.
Despite having no previous coding knowledge, I performed well under Dr. Wickliff. However, it was mostly do to the TAs and tendency to stray from standard grading system. We had one quiz total, an "extra credit" opportunity, and Wickliff was generous in the curve for the final, where everyone did poorly. Zybooks basically taught me
Dr. Wickliff is alright. During lectures, she reads off powerpoints. If you've never coded, this class is going to be hard. Lectures scratch the surface of what is asked in our labs. You have an individual and group lab every week and some can take forever to do. Just make sure you don't miss any assignments because they are valuable points.
The lectures were often not enough to do the weekly programming assignments, but the textbook helped a lot in that regard. All feedback and grading was done by my TAs, and it was done poorly with assignments being graded weeks after they were due, and with little feedback, although I cannot really fault Professor Wickliff for that.
Prof Wickliff is one of the nicest people ever but this class was an absolute train wreck for people who didn't already know how to code. LEARN PYTHON BEFORE TAKING THIS CLASS. The lectures and textbook content were not enough to do the labs that we had every week.
I couldn't tell you if Wickliff actually knows Python or not. She just reads off a powerpoint and goes off on tangents about getting internships and elevator pitches. Her TAs do most of the grading and it's probably better to ask them for help than her. She is however a VERY lenient grader and gives back a lot of points if you just talk to her!
If you don't have coding experience this course can be very very difficult. I did not feel as though the lectures helped me and I primarily learned on my own. Grading is not very consistent which gets to be frustrating. Nice woman just not the easiest to learn from. Odd ways of receiving extra points. Expect to put a lot of time in if coding is new
She's a solid engineering teacher. While she does read off of the slides, it's hard to teach a class size of 50 something kids that may or may not be new to coding or specifically python. TA's were sometimes helpful. Pay attention and actually study, and you'll do well in her class. She wants you to succeed and to prove it drives from Houston daily
Professor Wickliff is a good teacher with a positive spirit. The course consists of many quizzes and assignments, so do well on these. Remember to study for the exams, they will challenge your proficiency. Learning is expected outside of class. Team assignments are terrible if you have a neglecting team. Overall a good course with great material.
Luckily I had a good group that was willing to meet outside of class to complete group projects. As time went on, I started going to more SI sessions and went to the TA's for help on labs. Wickliff just reads off slides but still better than other profs. Got 70s on both tests and still got an A so don't over stress you'll make it.
Dr. Wickliff is a very sweet professor and definitely one of the better ones. This course can be difficult if you have zero coding experience. There are a lot of quizzes and projects so make sure to do those in order to make up for the exams.
She's a nice woman and wants everyone to succeed. However she reads off the power point and doesn't seem to know coding well. Some of the labs were practically impossible to me. I had never coded and relied heavily on my smart lab partners. The TA's helped a lot. Outside work/help in necessary.
Dr. Wickliff is a caring professor that wants you to do well in her class. The class covers difficult content and can be especially challenging if you do not have prior experience with coding in Python. If you do all you work and work hard in this class, you will be fine.
The recitations were led by the professor, where she would usually fly through tons of slides so taking notes should usually be done after class. The labs were pretty straightforward and short. The lab reports were the most tedious part of it, but easy if you had adequate help from your partners.
Class is easy with previous coding experience, without it's a pain. Lectures minimally useful, experience and learning from other students who know how to code is the way to go.
Very enthusiastic professor! Does not teach well whatsoever but she is a lovely woman. Just make sure to study for the final at the end of the semester and to understand how to find uncertainties in the lab and the class will be a breeze. Weekly homework is a participation grade half the time.
I took Dr. Wickliff for ENGR/PHYS 216. She is nice and seems to care about the students, but she does not give helpful homework nor does she really explain topics well in class. She reads straight from the lecture notes and does not give any extra explanation, so though I never skipped class, I wish I did because attending did not help me at all.
Bad lecturer in a class that needs a lot of explanation. Powerpoints did not match homework and topics did not match labs or 206 topics. Subject is hard and she doesn't make it better. She is sweet and caring but not good prof. Hard to get in contact through email. Small bit of extra credit. Biweekly labs, weekly hw and final. Final is curved lots.
I do not even know how to rate Wickliff. I find myself hating and loving this woman at the same time. The pros are that she assigns very little in comparison to other professors and she is very nice. The cons are that little HW means you do not learn much and her lectures are terrible and do not help you in preparation for the final W person L prof
The ratings for this professor are very accurate, She isn't the best professor in the universe, but she isn't a bad professor either. Her weekly tests could be easier, with some of them having unrelevant topics in them, so if you don't understand something in an earlier lecture week, you need to figure it out later regardless.
She was an average professor. Very nice with decent lectures. She gave us extra credit opportunities and let us collaborate on some of the harder quizzes, which did help a lot.
She tried to point out as many things she sees on tests during lectures that we should pay attention to. She tried to help grades as much as possible when she could. The only thing is she's not too knowledgeable of a coder. She can answer basic questions, but sometimes the PTs have to answer them. She's open for you to look over your test if asked
Dr. Wickliff's lectures can sometimes be difficult to follow, and her tests are often disproportionally difficult compared to the expectations of the rest of the course, but she is a kind person and does her best to get you a good grade while dealing with all the nonsense requirements that the university requires from her course.
ENGR 102 is a weed out class, but she wanted you to pass. She even changed the weighting of grades so the labs (which many people had high grades in) were worth more than your quizzes. Sometimes it seems like she doesn't even know how to code, but she is a nice professor who wants you to pass. Out of all the ENGR 102 prof. she seems like the best.
she was mid, would just read thru the lect. slides (posted on canvas) lots of group work, you have a lab group that has assignments every week test heavy, there's only two exams (mid/final), rest is lab assignments and other easy A assignments so helps boost the test grades you DO NOT need coding experience, they teach you everything, don't be scared
Lecture slides were available on Canvas, however Dr. Wickliff added lots of useful commentary and analogies during the lectures. Homework consisted of Team coding assignments and Individual coding assignments. Also gave tips relating to career fairs and studying on Thursdays. Overall a very engaging professor.
Professor Wickliff is a very nice lady who really does care about her students. She reads straight off the lecture slides and doesn't know a whole lot about programming, but that's fine because her TA's are always there and eager to help. She truly wants all of her students to succeed and often gives us tips and advice for our future.
so boring. so many useless assignments. very unorganized. she kept my group 45 minutes after class to present once and the next professor who needed to use the room next sat outside knocking angrily while she ignored him and made us present out project.
Dr. Wickliff was the epitome of average. Her lectures were good for the quizzes but she wasn't much help outside of that. Her TAs wrote all of her exams and quizzes so she didn't really know how to help with those. Also, the class has a bunch of labs that take forever, especially if everyone in your group is new to python. Time consuming, not heard
Take anyone else if you can! She is very sweet but doesn't respond to her emails for over a week. She only will read straight off the power point slides and won't do anything else. Will only talk about elevator pitches and if you have any other questions will just respond with "Ask a TA".
Dr. Wickliff is an average professor. She reads from the slides and goes on tangents which makes the class super boring. Find a good group that you can work with even if y'all are new to python. A responsive and motivated group will make this class so much easier. LOTS OF TIME CONSUMING HOMEWORK
Uses interactive textbook. Nice person. Almost entirely group oriented so choose wisely. Lectures aren't great, the assignments teach more. Attendance isn't mandatory but there are in-person quizes weekly that are pretty easy. Not out to get you at all, really wants you to do well and makes it known and clear.
Wickliff was a great lecturer in my opinion. She covered the material that was important and usually explained things well. This class is very group oriented so I recommend sitting at the front and finding a good group to work with early. 102 tests are hard regardless of the prof, but I think Wickliff is a good choice. Some extra credit throughout
Difficult class unless you are a seasoned python coder. Wickliff is the epitome of average with boring lectures that scratch the surface of the material. Choose your group wisely because 1/2 of the assignments are group projects. Very difficult tests. Wickliff takes an insanely long time to grade things also.
ENGR 102 is going to be hard, So be prepared to put in a lot of time and effort if you want a decent grade. Wickliff reads off of slides, so you're better off teaching yourself for the most part. But she wants you to do well and will give you many chances to boost your grade Lost of quizzes, most are easy Lots of extra credit opportunities
Dr. Wickliff was an incredibly nice professor and she really wanted students to do well in her class. Learning python before is HUGE, due to there being individual and group coding assignments every week. Exams are very hard, so studying is VERY important for each exam. She is very knowledgeable, but class didn't feel like intro to coding.
She is very nice and cares about students success in life, but I didn't learn much about coding and she would ramble on with "success tip tuesdays" when that time could have been used to clear up concepts. It took forever to get grades back to the point I didn't know my grade in the class until it was in howdy at the end of semester.
This was a great teacher, and I definitely recommend. Not too hard to get a good grade in this class if you study and complete the individual projects. You should do all the extra credit that she offers.
Too the future freshman that have wickliff.. God speed. She does not lecture very well so you will have to learn python on your own. My best advice is to have good team mates. While I didn't I was still able to get an A in the class. She curves the final average based off of if the class average is below a 80
People will complain about the class which is reasonable because although this is an intro to coding class, people with previous coding experience will excel compared to those who haven't. To those who haven't coding is a different experience that in their eyes is complicated. Which wickliff does not help with at all. Try and get good teamates
Very nice lady, would want her to be my grandmother. Sucks that she didn't know too much about coding, but I already knew how to. Make sure to get a group in the first couple of days.
She liked to talk a lot. Not about code, but she like to talk. Would make a good grandmother figure but she does not make a good professor as she does not really know the course material and her lectures are harder to sit through than your parents divorce. Just try and learn to code on your own if you want to take her class.
She was a great teacher, and she is very understanding when you need to take absences. She helped me catch up on all of my work, and offered me a lot of help. Go to the SI sessions and ask TAs for help to get a good grade in the class if you do not already know how to code.
Wickliff is a professor who teaches something she is not fully familiar with herself. She will lecture off of powerpoint presentations and usually doesn't add much to them. Her assignments are very challenging later on in the semester and the exams are brutal. However, she is a nice woman and does try to help (mostly by looking at keys though).
She's a nice women, but coasts on the back of her TAs. Consistently arrives to class late. If you really want an A in her class it's definitely possible. I just think as a top ranked engineering school we could do better. Her teaching style wasn't super memorable. At least she wanted to see everyone succeed, and final project was a free 100.
Easy class if you get a good group, and get in the habit of meeting up with them to work on the weekly group assignments. She doesn't seem to have a great understanding of python, so the TAs are your best bet for getting help. She is really kind and entertaining though, and wants to see all her students succeed. Final was p much participation.
The class is fairly easy, the only problem I had was the semester group project. The project is poorly explained and on the project workdays she gives us, she doesn't even show up.
She's alright just reads of the slides in class and doesn't seem to be super literate in programming. The final project was easy. The quizzes can be grade killers as they are only 2-5 questions typically. As long as you finish all the labs and do decent on the exams you'll be fine.
She's decent, she just reads off her slides and is often late to class. However, she is extremely nice and understanding to your situation. If you are willing to put effort into the homework and doing the Zybooks, an A is very manageable.
This is definitely a weed out class, that is extremely focused on test material based on code that many engineering students will never use again. If you are really REALLY into coding, you will be fine, but if you are interested in something like Civil, this class is a nightmare. Zybooks is a horrible website that is used for every assignment.
First of all, I'd like to say that Dr. Wickliff is an amazing person. It is really clear that she wants you to excel in your professional life. That being said, as a professor, I would not recommend her as she has these slides that contain info you can search up on your own 10x faster. If you have prior coding experience, sure?
This professor was engaged with her students but not during her lectures. I interacted with the TAs significantly more than her.
She's very understanding if you have to miss a quiz for something but a pretty average lecturer. She loves to promote getting internships, but for a freshman that was kinda hard to actually do so.. Overall a pretty average professor, the class is just a pain with all the group projects.
Not the best lecturer, but if you have prior coding experience you will be just fine. She is a very understanding professor and does a lot to promote internships and to give you career resources. The course is very group project heavy and may be difficult if you have no coding experience. She also rounded my 89.88 up to an A which was awesome.
Good prof. Gives less homework compared to other profs, but that means you have to put in more work studying for final. Make sure to put in effort for the 6 labs (separate from lecture) as this counts for majority of grade and you will be set for the final. Final will be tough tho for this class tho.
216 is just a weird class across the board. None of the professors know how to teach it and you pretty much have to entirely self study the material/practice exam for the final. That being said, Dr. Wickliff assigned very little homework relatively speaking. She is incredibly caring and responds quick to emails. Good person bad prof.
PHYS/ENGR 216 is a odd/hard class to begin. Wickliff assigns almost no homework, where others assign whole days worth at times. No matter what professor you have, you will end up self teaching bc thats just how 216 is. Just make sure you give 100% effort for labs and turn in lecture assignments in on time and you can get an A.
I learned practically nothing in this class and didn't do great on the final but she's chill.
She's more of an inspirational speaker than a 216 prof. She's bad at lecturing, often rambles, slides are confusing, there is little to no homework, and her class didn't align with others. I learned practically nothing, and the final was extremely rough for everyone (grade went from A to C...) Take if you want an easy semester but beware of exams.
She really doesn't teach well and more of just states the content off slides. The assignments are pretty easy, both labs and quizzes, so if you just turn them all in you'll get a good grade in the class. I did have to self teach, but it was really just from practicing writing code. Final was awful, one of the hardest I've taken in my life.
Learn python before you take any 102. They claim you don't need to know python, which is true, but this class was extremely difficult. Uses interactive textbook for individual and group labs. Test are very difficult as well and hard to study for unless you already know python. Wickliff was a great person and professor just 102 is very hard.
ENGR 102 is a mostly standard course which should be more than 2 credit hours. We had weekly quizzes the class after lecture so get ready to read the (purchased) zybooks textbook (online). The lectures are not bad however I would say that it depends if you would like it or not (most of the class did not pay attention to the lecture).
Professor Wickliff truly cares about all of her students, she will do her best to help you succeed in any subject, not only her class. The only bad thing is that she would just read the slides but if you have questions she will be more than happy to help you. (She's still better than the rest of the ENGR102 Professors)
Her lectures are okay, and she's a great speaker, but the class is difficult if you don't already know Python. I expected some rounding or a curve, but none was applied, which made the exams especially hard for students without prior Python experience.
