She is the worst professor other than Vivian Jackson....she gives entirely too much work...theres a quiz about every week and you gotta write alot of technical document...don't take her

I would suggest that u don't take her. Her class is extremely hard for no reason. She will constantly give you work to do. The weekly quizzes are ok but u really have 2 read the book. She might give u a study guide for 1 of the quizzes and none of the stuff from the study guide will be on there. Her grading is also bad.
She is the worst teacher ever. I would not advise anyone to take her class even if she is the only teacher teaching it, GO TO ANOTHER SCHOOL TO TAKE THE CLASS IF YOU HAVE TO!! She gives like three assignments a week, she does not prepare you for quizzes, and grades way to hard! DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS!
Proff McInnis is a great proff. You will actually learn from her courses. Most people complain about her workload or grading because they are unwilling to do any work, lazy and feel like they can bs their way through classes.You have to actually do work in college; surprising right?

SHe is an excellent teacher but you have to work hard. f you're not good at english dont take her. I failed her class but she was still an excellent teacher.
She is a very helpful professor if you utilize your time and hers wisely. Her grading is very technical however. Purchase the Little Brown Handbook! That will be your guide to actually writing essays correctly.
DO NOT TAKE! Not to say she isn't a good person but her class is torture! She doesn't make all her assignments clear and she doesn't really use rubrics. She also doesn't try to help you much your really on your own.
She is a very hard professor but is only hard because she wants you to learn. If you a looking for an easy workload I would not suggest that you take her. Once you finish with her class you will learn a lot. I like her as a professor because she challenges you to do much better than you think you can do.
I am an honors student and I had a 4.0 accumulative gpa, yet I have a C in her class. She is not an optimistic professor at all. She gives an unreasonable amount of work. She doesn't allow students time to absorb the content before moving on to the next chapter. She also has a thing for pop quizzes, which makes it even more difficult to succeed.

Professor McInnis is a good teach but she grades very hard. I was in the writing center all the time for help and still received a D. If you can avoid it DON'T TAKE HER CLASS!!
The class is very hard. If you can avoid taking the class I suggest you do that. She gives RRs(reading responses) that are due every class period, so you better read all books and materials. The essays aren't a joke either. You truly earn the grade you get. Be prepared to work the entire semester. If u want an easy class don't choose her.
McInnis is not hard at all. If you simply read the assignments assigned in the syllabus you will do good on all the quizzes. She thoroughly explains how to do the essays also. She is always there during her office hours if you do not understand an assignment or essay. If you are a below average student and lazy, do not take the class.
While Mrs. McInnis is a very kind woman, she will destroy all possibilities of a good night's rest. You will really have to make sure you stay on top of your assignments. Ask as many questions as possible! McInnis will answer. She is a brilliant woman but her class is just very challenging all together. Prepare for excessive amounts of stress.
Professor McInnis is amazing! She makes you work for your grade, but as long as you do your work and you actually try, you'll be just fine. Everyone gives her a hard time, because she's not one of those professors who is just going to give you a grade. Tough grader have to be on point
Professor McInnis is a good professor. You do have to make sure you do every assignment. If you miss one or two, you risk having a low grade. Essays on top of essays and assignments on top of assignments. Sometimes she doesn't thoroughly explain assignments, so you'd have to email her.
Shes the hardest professor I have ever had in my life! She grades SO tough. She gives lots of pop quizzes. Shes a wonderful teacher and she knows her stuff for sure. You have to read and study a lot. Oh and there's like 3 group projects.
Although I received a bad grade that was all on my part. Professor McInnis allows you to fix your work for a better grade. She is also very passionate about what she does. This is the class for you if you actually enjoy learning about English and want to work for your grade. Great teacher!
Harsh grader and not very polite
she is the best professor to take for this course because you will learn in her class. This class is NOT easy, the best way to succeed is to read the chapters before the class & when she gives you a written assignment she gives you exactly what you need to write the paper. Pay attention to her power points & take good notes.
There is a lot of Homework but the syllabus tells you when its due. So keep the syllabus. When it comes to missing class or work she will not be very lenient. If you miss the assignment that's it you take that zero. I was enrolled in the class late and she put 0 in for the assignments. In class assignments are timed. She sometimes makes it clear.
She is very passionate about what she does. It seems like her grading is more opinion based instead of looking to make sure you completed the task correctly. I am in her online class, and she literally tried to fit a whole semester into 1 month. No matter how specific or precise you try to be she will ALWAYS find something wrong with your work!
She teaches the English 101 classes like we are in a more advance class. She is not a bad teacher but for the most part her expectations for the incoming freshman is a little too high.

This is a very difficult class, the only way I would recommend taking this class is if you are passionate about English and writing. She is VERY knowledgeable about the subject. The problem is most of the people taking this class are 'passing through' from other majors. She is often rude if you have questions and a tough grader. Avoid if you can.
Grades harder than life feels like it's almost impossible to pass
Freshman, if you think you write well. Chances are you probably don't (well not in this class you don't) She is a very sweet lady. Do not get me wrong. but she grades harder than ever. Expectations way too high for freshman students. I took AP literature in High School and got an A.. how in the heck am I failing. I will be withdrawing. Nice lady
I loved her class. She is a tough grader but if you work hard and read the assigned readings you wouldn't have much problem passing the class.

She is a very tough teacher and the essays are the most important part of your grade. Get as much assistance as possible when doing essays and make sure that you start as soon as they are assigned so that you have time to revise. Read so that you're prepared for the pop quizzes and make sure to complete all no red ink assignments. Be ready to work.

VERY VERY VERY HARD CLASS. This teacher made it almost impossible for me to learn. Her grading is tough. She tells you that you did an assignment incorrectly but doesn't tell you how to fix it. Neither does she give extra credit, which is absurd. I ended up failing this class with a 68.7... AVOID THIS PROFESSOR. DON'T LET THE SMILE FOOL YOU, FAM.
PLEASE BE WARNED. Look, don't take her class if you aren't ready. Too much work for such a unnecessary class. She's rude, angry, and hard on students. She gives pop quizzes like your in middle school. And the quizzes are deep in the chapters, like random stuff you wouldn't think you'd need to remember. She takes her job too serious. (in my opinion)
Do not take her class!!! It does not matter how hard you work or try to make an effort to pass her class. You will be lucky if you get a B on a paper. She is a pain and will make you feel like trash as a writer.

Professor Is a good teacher and shes very cool to talk to. However, her expectations for incoming freshman is too high and she will always talk about students failing if an assignment isnt done like she want it. She is helpful outside of class if you attend her office hours. But in class shes tough.

AVOID TAKING HER!!! She expects way too much from her students. It feels like you're taking 5 classes in just ONE CLASS. Her teaching style is garbage. She only goes over the surface of each chapter (knowing we have pop quizzes) and expects you to read the chapters over and over to understand the material not even telling you what to focus on.
Her expectations for first year college students are too high. It seems like when you are trying your hardest to improve your writing (if Prof. Mcinnis tells you about it) you still get a bad grade. I also believe some assignments she gives she makes the percentage of the grade too high and the assignment itself doesnt mean anything.

Professor McInnis is a really great person but a very tough teacher, Ive never received above a C on a paper in her class, I got a D (7pts) from a C largely because shes a tough grader, the tests and quizzes are kinda oc, and my fault but shes well versed on the subject so she grades very tough, again great person ,tough teacher, tough class
she seems to be a pretty chill professor but dont be fooled. Tells u to read the book but as far as assignments go she does not want u to follow the guidelines with in the the book which makes no sense. If you ask questions she sometimes has a attitude like all students are the same looks at u like duh. You have no room for mess ups in this class
She is a very tough grader and even when I received feedback and applied it , it seemed like it was never enough for her. She shows knowledge in the subject but the course was definitely chaotic and stressful.
She's very firm and deliberate in what she wants to see in your papers which is a blessing and a curse. She's very clear in what she expects, but turn in anything less and your grade will show. She is firm but not ruthless. Go see her during office her hours and she will actually help during the developmental stages of your paper.

Professor McInnis was truly a hard professor to have as a Freshman. We had a paper every week for many weeks. I took the class Mon,Wed,Fri. Often we would get introduced a topic monday, bring the rough draft and outline Wednesday, and final draft Friday. She has truly helped me create papers but still its a hard class.

She was one of the greatest professors I couldve ever had. The books, the papers, the lectures. It may have been a lot but it was worth it and great reads. When she graded my papers she gave me great feedback to redo the paper and come out on top. She was a little hard but she cares ! I would definitely take her again if I had to .
She is a great teacher that is willing to schedule a meeting with you as long as you do your part as the student. Her assignments are challenging, but with the feedback that she gives, your writing will improve. You really have to work hard and use outside resources (like the writing center) for her class. Overall good/helpful class.
I took her class a couple years ago, by far the WORST experience i've had with a professor. Most people taking this class aren't English majors, just passing through and she is extremely difficult on students despite this fact. Extremely unprofessional, a terrible representation of an HBC professor. She should be ashamed of how she carries herself.
DONT take her class. She is extremely hard, is not understanding, assigns tons of readings, papers +. She always changes things last minute so if you think you completed something you didn't. MUST PARTICIPATE IN CLASS. I spent nearly 4-5 hrs every day doing homework JUST FOR HER CLASS. Trust me when I say she is the toughest professor.
Just steer clear, had to withdraw from the class because she didnt even give me a CHANCE to pass. She gave us a mid term OVER SPRING BREAK. Probably the worst professor. She does not communicate with her students well and it was an essay an test every other day.. smh.
She makes all assignments due in the middle of the day, and then grades and removes points from them based on how close to the due time you turn in the assignment. It's a grading and teaching style with a complete lack of empathy and understands for others. Unless the only class you take is hers's don't take her.
Professor McInnis is a tough professor. There are so many papers, quizzes, and discussions but the course will make you a better writer. The class are mandatory and require you to be on camera. She is a tough grader, but she can prepare for writing throughout your career. Show up, do the work, and you will pass.
Terrible. Gives put too many rough drafts and peer reviews and overcomplicates the thesis of how it should be extended into a body paragraph. Leaves assignments open out of the standard deadline 11:59. Picky and overcomplicated

1 star is too high for her. She grades like we are going for a PhD at Oxford University in English. She grades so tough it is ridiculous. The quizzes are scaled really bad and are almost always on stuff you never go over in class. I got a C in the class and I was so happy I got a C and I popped champagne and I am an A student. She is behind when it comes to updating certain dropboxes for blackboard, but the outlines and lectures set you up for success. The peer tutoring process is sort of easy if you stay on top of the dates. USE YOUR SYLLABUS. She likes the syllabus & its the thing she wont steer off of, the professor makes me feel like I'm in a actual college class.
This is one of the worse classes that I've ever taken. She is actually one of the worst professors that I've had. She'll tell you to come to her if you don't agree with your grade but still does nothing about it. She's very repetitive in what she ask of the students to do within the assignments. She makes the assignments more than what they are.
For my first semester of college this was definitely a struggle to keep up because I wanted a B. We had about 3 major papers. The work can be tedious. I would not miss a class. As hard as the class is she is a great teacher, gives excellent feedback and very personable. Also a tough grader make sure you know what she wants.

I had an F because I missed the first week of school and i had trouble catching up. i ended with a C! there's three major papers and little bits of work in between. follow the rubrics and ask for feedback. she's a bit snarky but we always have a laugh in the class. it's so easy if you put the work in (and my last essay wasn't even that good)
She's a very tough grader and has extremely strict time limits on assignment with next to no room for late turn ins. Missing even a single class can be a huge setback. Can be helpful for correction in bad writing.
She is hard on you if she knows you are capable in her class. Turn everything in on time and you will do great in her class. She is also understandable if you miss any dropbox due dates.
Professor McInnis is a very hard grader, but she gives extremely clear instructions; so if you read the assignment sheets she gives thoroughly, you'll be fine. Be sure to turn in all work on time as she is not one to accept late work without a valid excuse (dropbox not open, etc.) She gives a grade for attendance and participation so come to class!
The professor can be a bit tough, but engage with the class and you'll do well. The work is manageable if you stay on top of it. Unstuckstudy was a lifesaver for my essay prep - highly recommend checking it out!
Great profesor with an engaging teaching style, attendance is mandatory. She gives clear instructions and well written assignment sheets, and she grades strictly off them and doesn't take late work. Make sure to read any class books assigned because she gives pop quizzes. Overall 10/10, I am genuinely a better writer after this class.
