Tara is so cute! She's also way overqualified to be teaching at a city college! This woman knows her stuff and is so passionate about the material. She can be kind of jumpy and hyper but she is so sweet and tries as hard as she can to make lectures and material interesting and fun. The exams were hard though.
Out of all the professors I have had, Dr. Carter is by far the most inspirational and passionate. She makes every lecture interesting and she genuinely cares about her students. I honestly don't understand why she works here because she is incredibly smart and is so overqualified. Definitely a class worth taking.
Professor Tara is the best teacher I've ever had, anthropology was not my first choice to take but she made it so fun and is honestly the most caring and funny teacher ever. You don't really have to show up to pass but she makes it fun to go to class. She loves her students and extends tests/quizzes and sometimes gives free points just because!
Super passionate about Anthropology. Very lenient about everything. Quiz every 2 weeks, 3 exams, 2 simple projects. Lectures could get long and boring but worth listening to. Makes learning fun, and brings in treats at times. Very lovable professor, who cares about her students.
Most interesting teacher I've ever had. She's keeps me awake in a 8am lecture. Understands her class is not the only class you have. Accepts your late work, gives plenty of time on projects and overall, she wants you to succeed.
Tara is the sweetest teacher I've ever had. She respects all of her students and always allows for class discussions. She takes what she does seriously and always takes time to listen to her students. A lot of notes, but the tests are generally quite easy. She will always help you if you need it.
One of the best teachers I have ever had, super nice, friendly and cares about her students. The way she teaches is how all classes should be taught, focusing more on students actually learning the subject. I went to almost every class and found every single one as interesting as the last. She has inspired me to switch my major to Anthropology :)
By far my favorite class this semester. I honestly took this class as a requirement; I have no particular interest in Anthropology. However, I was excited to attend every lecture of Dr. Carter. The only issue I have is that this class was a bit TOO easy. Nevertheless, I was never bored; she put so much effort into teaching the subject effectively.
Really bright and very helpful. Always there for you if you have any difficulties or questions.
Dr. Carter is a very knowledgeable yet approachable professor. She's extremely overqualified, but it's obvious that she loves what she does. Her lectures are thoroughly interesting, and usually spark spontaneous class discussions. You'll never want to miss a lecture. She's an inspiration and just a pleasure to be around.
I always look forward to her lectures. Test are easy as long as you look at the study guide. The online reader is enjoyable.
Tara is sweet! She genuinely wants her students to succeed. Reading quizzes, 3 exams, and a group project. She provides a study guide which helps on the exams. Put forth the effort and should be an easy A
She is amazing. Very knowledgeable, caring and open for after-class discussions. I had a very rough semester and she proved to be so supportive.
Tara is an amazing professor; she definitely shows that she cares about all of her students. She loves what she does and wants to make sure that everyone is on track. The study guides she makes are also extremely clear. If you need help, she is definitely accessible outside of class!
Really helpful
I LOVE TARA. I really look up to her as an Anthropology major. I really enjoy her teaching style and she is so quirky and funny, it is impossible to hate her. Her lectures are engaging and she is incredibly intelligent, I wish I could take her for every Anthropology class!
Absolutely love her class. As long as you try, and show up for class you will do just fine. She genuinely loves what she is teaching and the excitement is contagious. She is not a touch grader and wants everyone to succeed.
Easy A, there are 3 exams including the final which isn't cumulative, a few online quizzes that are really simple. If you go over the power points and work on the study guide you will get an A, gives extra credit and is super funny. I loved this class
Doctor Carter is the best professor I have ever had. She was clearly meant to be a teacher, and also loves to do what she does. I've taken every class she offers. Her lectures are interesting and she tries to make the content relevant to our lives. She is kind, and cares about her students well being as well as their success. Take her class!!
One of the most caring teachers i've ever had. She wants you to succeed, her lectures are intriguing and her coursework is manageable. I would recommend her to anyone (Which is why I felt compelled to write this) You have easy and interesting homework assignments (not too many) , 3 tests, and she discussions that have NO due date until the final.
100% recommend Tara! Her lecture's are always fun. Would take her class again! Thank you!
best teacher i ever had. we are not worthy
Best professor I've ever had. Her material is interesting, lectures well taught and assignments/ discussions are engaging. I didn't expect to like this class but I would HIGHLY recommend anyone to take her class. Worth it.
Tara's classes are very lecture heavy but not in a bad way. There are a lot of notes to take but she makes her slideshows interesting to watch. If you don't slack off and do all of the required assignments there is no reason you wouldn't do well in her class.
She gives very long lectures, but makes the slides exciting and funny. She is very caring and helpful to everyone. I would recommend taking her. Prof. Tara's lessons made me want to come to class. They are so interesting. I recommend taking her class!!!
This was one of the best classes I have taken at SBCC. The lectures are heavy but really interesting. Prof. Carter makes the class as stressless as possible. Her study guides are detailed and she gives you essay questions before the test. She also taught us her own research! Such an amazing teacher.
I love Dr. Carter!! Her passion for anthropology shines through in all her lectures. She is very knowledgeable about her field, and enjoys sharing her anthropological experiences with her students! Opened my eyes as to how intensive agriculture really isnt the win we think it is, spoiler alert.
Tara is the best! I honestly looked forward to coming to lecture. Shes super chill, & makes anthro interesting. You do a couple of the fieldwork assignments & QUIZZES in class as a group, & get points for it! She gives xta credit in the form of awesome points (show up) & 1 page ethnographic paper. The only way you could fail is by not showing up!
Dr. Carter is by far my favorite teacher at SBCC. The first thing you notice about her is her passion for anthropology when she geeks out in class. She is super quirky and entertaining to listen to. Even though the lectures are long, they fly by with her. You would have to try to fail this class. 10/10 would recommend!!
Professor Carter is wonderful at what she does, she's clearly knowledgeable and passionate. She's is happy to help during her office hours and often gives the opportunity for extra credit. She's a gem, ten outta ten.
She's such a sweetheart and very humorous! Her lectures are very interesting, and her quiz/exam questions are very straightforward; no trick questions. Do go to her office hours or talk to her after class if you are confused, I promise it helps.
I recommend this professor. I wish I had taken more Anthropology courses with her, sadly it is my last semester. She understands that we are students with lives who have other classes, she doesn't pile on the work load, I appreciated that. She works over time for her students and it shows through her lectures. Don't take advantage of her kindness.
Carter is amazing. She really knows her subject and cares about keeping her lecture interesting. Show up and take good notes, look over lecture slides before tests, and do your essay before the test (she gives the essay question before) and you'll get an A. No homework really, just do what she asks on time and show you care. Sweet person truly
I have taken 3 classes with Tara now. She is by far my favorite professor ever. You can tell she really cares about her students and she's not in it for anything else. She makes every lecture fun and interesting and also accommodates to her students' needs. You can tell she really goes above and beyond to make sure her students succeed.
Went in to her class as an Environmental major thinking about switching to ANTHRO, and now after her class I have no doubt about my future career. That is what Professor Carter does. Not to mention her class is insanely easy. Her lectures are amazing and intriguing. I think as a human of earth we should all know the teaching of cultural anthropolog
I have taken one course and am currently taking another with Dr. Carter, truly a gem of a professor who cares about her students and field of study. Expectations are clear and upfront: go to lecture, do the readings, do the study guides. Her lectures are awesome and she keeps them fun and engaging. The world needs more people like Dr. Carter
Tara is one of the most influential professors I have ever had. After taking her class I ended up changing my major. She posts everything on Canvas so you don't fall behind too much if you miss a day and sets up her class to make sure you don't fail. Her class is very enjoyable and enlightening. Highly recommend if you every get the chance
Tara is one of most caring professors I've ever had. She goes above and beyond to help her students in and out of her class. Her instruction is clear in all assignments and she does an amazing job setting you up for success. Her lectures are extremely interesting and enlightening. Take her class!
Best professor ever! She not only wants you to pass but she gets you interested by her passion, humor, and kindness. Super understanding and she knows what shes doin! A somewhat heated student had a disagreement during class but she handled it like a boss, super professional, patient and cares about your opinion and your learning process!
I love Tara, she is smart, well educated, and always happy to help. Anthropology is my major, and I wish I can take her again, I really recommend cultural anthropology to gain an open mind about current issues regarding society. She is the brightest, and dare I say, cutest professor that was. Tara will set you up for success!! Take her Now!
I loved Professor Carter. She is so amazing and such a nice professor. Her lectures arent mandatory, but I would recommend that you attend them. She makes them very engaging and she never fails to make you laugh. She gives out study guides for the two exams youll have in the semester so make sure to do them! Such a fun class that I really enjoyed
If you are mainly an auditory learner, you will love this class and make an easy A. Dr. Carter is very clear in her lectures and is very passionate about her subject. She cares very much about her students. She is an inspiration as she shares with her class that her life hasn't been the easiest. Anthropology is a fascinating subject with Dr. Carter
I loved Professor Carter, she is such a sweet soul and she really cares about her students. She's really understanding if you have any outside struggles that affect your schoolwork and her lectures are really interesting. She made me really interested in anthropology and makes her classes fun most of the time. I would definitely take her again.
Carter truly wants her students to succeed. She is very understanding, and while attendance wasn't always required, I recommend going to her lectures both for a better understanding of the material and also because it is clear she has such a passion for her subject. If you put in the effort, you will get an A. She's awesome.
This semester was crazy, but she was so accommodating to those of us who were struggling and I will never forget that! The class is interesting and she cares so much about the work and student's success. Anyone would be lucky to have her as a teacher! Just keep up with the readings and put in the work and you'll be great, perfect for non-majors!!!!
Tara Carter is the sweetest lady I've ever met, she loves what she does and she respects all of her students. I really don't like science and I was worried about this class but she made it really easy and enjoyable and I am so glad I got her as my professor
Prof. Carter is one of the best instructors at SBCC. Her lectures are interesting and funny and she truly cares about her students. She is very conscious to not overeload her students with to much work and is an easy grader. Beyond that she replies to emails quick and she has regular office hours where you can drop in without an appointment.
Taking this course with Professor Carter was a joy. She cares that her students understand the material. She is very funny which makes lectures memorable and enjoyable. I highly recommend taking courses with Professor Carter.
I took Taras Anthropology 101 class online in the summer and she was amazing! I took 4 summer classes in total and this was the only class that I fell like I actually enjoyed learning / actually learned something. For her first online class, she did great ! She was quick to grade things the first few weeks & an easy grader.
Tara is super passionate, kind and very lenient. I took her online Cultural Anthropology class and loved it. She makes each unit due on one day three weeks out which can be hard if you are a procrastinator, but easily doable. Graders are made up of small papers, unit quizzes, and discussion boards. Overall a great class with a great teacher.
Tara is very personable and really cares about her students. She makes her class relatively easy, so students care more about anthropology rather than their grade. Her lectures are interesting, but she talks pretty slow so I recommend putting them on double speed. I would definitely recommend her!
This class was the easiest thing ever and yet I learned so much. For each unit, there's a deadline for the homework (all of it takes 10-20 minutes) so you can do homework when you want. There's a textbook for this class, but I never read it and finished with over 100%. Each unit has a short quiz and you learn it all in the lectures. TAKE HER CLASS!
If I could take classes ONLY by Tara, I would. She is a positively amazing human being! She has amazing anecdotes, rich experiences to draw on for classes, and truly knows what she's talking about. She tests your understanding, not memorization, and it's always about fascinating subjects. She also really connects with her students in lectures!
Professor Carter is incredibly knowledgeable as a professor, and anthropologist. It's obvious how much she cares about both her students and their understanding of the class. She leaves helpful, in-depth comments on every single assignment submitted and provides plenty of helpful resources.
So far my favorite professor! Although the class was fully online, she made the class very personable and I felt like each assignment had a purpose. Lectures were interesting to watch and sparked my interest in changing my major. Tara truly cares about her students and I would be surprised if anyone didnt enjoy her teaching.
Tara Carter is an absolutely amazing professor, I've had her for two classes and I highly recommend her! She definitely tries to set everyone up for success, and gives amazing feedback. She seems super passionate and interested in anthropology which makes her course super exciting.
Choose Tara, you won't regret. She was the bestEST professor I've ever had! 4 unit quizzes; each week has a couple of discussions and a few of individual assignments. Also gives a little free extra points through out the semester. The quizzes could be tricky sometimes but as long as you read the textbook and understand the lectures you'll be fine.
Prof. Carter is a great professor. Extremely understanding, gives thorough feedback, and encourages prioritizing mental health. Lectures are on the longer side, but are extremely interesting and its obvious she cares about the subject as well as knows what she's talking about. Highly recommend, would take again!
Dr. Carter is THE best professor I have ever had at SBCC, hands down. Her lectures really dove deep into fascinating topics, and I really wish I could've taken more courses with her. Really easy class overall, just make sure to engage in the material to make the most of the class. 10/10 would recommend.
She's so kind and genuinely cares about students. You won't regret taking her!
TAKE THIS CLASS. I absolutely love Tara and her class doesn't feel like a class, I compare it to a Tedtalk. Read a chapter a weeks take a quiz, go to her lectures!!! She gives away lots of answers in the lectures to discussion posts. She grants extra time, if needed. Theres no midterm/final barley even an essay. Amazing class. Take it!!
Mrs. Carter couldn't have been a better teacher. The class has 3 main units and there are lectures to go with each unit. You have to write three essays, three quizzes but lots of fun discussion assignments. Mrs. Carter really cares about the subject she teaches which really makes the class much more enjoyable. Take this class if you need the credit
Dr. Carter is my absolute favorite professor at Sbcc. She doesn't have a final but she is a wonderful professor who really takes the time to make sure you understand the material. I really could go on an on about her, to be honest. The only thing is you need to make sure to do the essays with full effort, you will get a bad grade if you don't.
You can tell that this professor truly loves her job -- she speaks with passion and really makes you understand the context in a clear way. I greatly enjoyed watching her lectures as they were never monotone or boring -- she always found a way to engage her students. I highly recommend this class!
Absolutely never makes any sense when grading assignments. Asks for "evidence" constantly, even if you include 40 quotes. Total joke of a class.
I took cultural anthropology with Professor Carter and the class discussed super interesting topics that I think are very nessacary to learn in todays environment. Although the topics are interesting I think the lectures can get kind of boring and more in class activities would be fun.
Professor Carter teaches great info that should to be taught and learned. However, the assignments she assigns can be written so confusingly that I have no idea what the questions are even asking. There is no final in this class but there were six different home work assignments including an essay due on finals week and it was definately a lot.
Very sweet and understanding professor. She really cares for her students, and is always willing to help them out. I highly recommend taking any of her classes for either your major or even just for fun. She also allows resubmissions if you got a low score on a discussion :)
I want to love Professor Carter's class. But honestly, it was okay. Some of the homework prompts were extremely confusing and I tapped out during the final weeks. She truly cares about her students and their success. I just find ANTH very boring. Her lectures were interesting but very long. Listen at 1.5-1.75 speed. Trust me.
really caring prof, kinda nerdy but cool lectures, learned a lot of real word applicable knowledge
We are only four weeks into the semester and she is already my favorite professor. Her lectures are super interesting and she loves what she teaches. She is delightful and cares about your success.
Tara's class is the best class I have ever taken. I switched majors to anthropology after taking it, as she made everything so interesting. There is a good amount of reading, videos, and lectures, but they are genuinely so interesting that it's not too bad. 10/10 recommend taking her class.
DEFINITELY TAKE HER CLASS!!! SHE IS SO KIND AND CARING. SHE ACCEPTS LATE WORK AND DOESN'T HAVE TESTS. I GOT SICK AND COULDN'T TURN IN A FEW ASSIGNMENTS FOR A WEEK AND SHE GAVE ME AN EXTENSION. I WOULD TAKE HER AGAIN. 1000000/10
Super knowledgeable professor, and she gives really interesting lectures. She is very lenient about late work and allows you to resubmit, however she is a bit particular on how she wants things written. She also doesn't give exams either which is amazing. She's super caring and definitely knows her stuff!!
Everyone needs to take a class of hers. Not only is she an incredibly engaging and passionate professor, but I've deeply retained the info of my entire semester with her because she connects the content to our present in a very informed and captivating way. I've regurgitated what I've learned in my lectures to my friends bc it's that interesting.
She's very fun and interesting to listen to. Very engaging, and puts genuine effort in her lectures. She makes resources available, and is very understanding of her students, and the world as a whole. At the end of our semester she got a standing ovation :)
Amazing! Lecture starts off slow, but gets very interesting! Super genuine, kind, professor. She's an absolute gem! Information is presented clearly and weekly readings are from interesting articles that are relevant to class. Grade based on 3 essays, occasional worksheets, and short online quizzes. Accepts late work! Very willing to help.
Good class overall. Carter will do almost anything to help students grasp the topics they don't understand. Work can always be revised, and in-depth explanations about how you can improve are always provided. The lectures were also pretty interesting, especially the last unit.
Dr. Carter gives you all the leeway you could possibly ask for as a student; she accepts late work, lets you revise your work to improve your grades, and isn't strict on attendance. She's a fair grader, but she also gives you amazing feedback on your work.
There are 3 bigger writing assignments. The class is majority far left liberal ideas in it. You don't have to show up every day most of the in-class assignments you can still submit online. She does allow late work and corrections up until the last day which is helpful. There is a free online textbook.
Very kind professor who is passionate about her subject matter. All work can be resubmitted for a better grade after revision and she is very understanding of problems that may occur in a student's life and is always willing to work with them and compromise
Tara Carter is the best professor I have ever had. I learned more from her class than from the entirety of my life experience. She is genuinely exited about the material and can explain it well. I would recommend taking her class to anyone who wants to learn.
I was super nervous I wasn't gonna pass this class but she kept her gradebook open till the very last night (please don't do what I did) she's so great. If your new to college PLEASE TAKE HER COURSE!!! She gives great feedback on essays and has a great growth mindset for her students, it'll really help out with other classes you'll take!
Ah Dr. Carter was so so amazing! I took a shorter class with her, and there was a chunk of work to do but if you keep on top watching lectures and turning things in on time you're set! I'm a high school student, she made everything understandable and digestible in her videos. She's so sweet, genuine, and gives really helpful feedback on assignments!
Tara is an amazing professor. Her lectures are very interesting and she gives amazing feedback on assignments. Definitely take her class if you have the option to.
Tara Carter is a passionate professor. Late work and revisions are allowed. There is a pretty big load of assignments and lecture videos each week. The quizzes and essays are manageable, it was the weekly assignments that were difficult to keep up with and were graded pretty strictly. This class is good if you're willing to put in the effort.
I absolutely loved Dr. Carter! Her class may seem hard at first, but it is not. Attendance is not really mandatory unless you want to do well in class. She takes the information from the book and explains it in a way that makes sense. Her lectures are very entertaining, never boring. Her assignments are extremely easy, too.
GO TO LECTURE. Tara is the sweetest, most down to earth person and is very understanding of students' personal matters. I usually hate science-based classes but I learned so much from this class and had a great time participating in lecture. Moderate amount of hw and a few short essays but easily manageable and again, she's very understanding.
MAKE SURE TO WATCH LECTURE Professor Carter is such an amazing Professor. While teaching you important concepts that help in life, she incorporates motivation and good feedback to ensure you do good in school. Her lectures are funny, quick, and needed to answer assignment Q's. Overall Amazing class. Going to miss the several dogs cameoed in lecture
Take this class! Tara is a relatively laid-back professor, and her lectures are always engaging, often covering current and relevant topics that everyone should be aware of. She accepts late work and allows you to revise assignments. While she can be a tough grader, her feedback is fair and helpful. Overall, I'd definitely recommend her class.
Tara is a fantastic professor! She shows unmatched dedication to her field and the welfare of her students. Unit tests are replaced by ~3-page essays, which she gives clear feedback on. Take notes on in-class presentations, they can be used on the essays. Definitely take Tara's course if possible, it makes for an enjoyable, valuable experience.
