excellent teacher.. recommend her classes
Awsome teacher. great personality, witty humor - take her classes!
yup!! good teacher..........
very nice, has a good teaching style and understanding
Covers interesting material effectively...among the best profs so far
interesting, enthusiastic and fun, but study hard for her tests!!
Great prof! Makes everything interesting and fun!

know the textbook!
Interesting course, I just hope you have an affinity for multipe choice, otherwise you're pretty much SCREWED...she really needs to incorporate other testing methods...multiple choice is the easy way out for professors.
She's a very nice lady and a very good professor. Very fair, approachable and helpful. Her classes are interesting
Lectures are easy to understand but don't forget to read the textbook too! Very smart and keeps herself on the same level as her students; no superiority complex here.
very clear information given, always willing to help students
NOT easy
Very hard course. Her lectures are from the text, you still hve to read to know everything. Her tests are extremely hard. She should change the format of it. The tests will bring you down a lot if you do not read the text. KEEP UP WITH THE READING!
Her exams are difficult and she's a hard marker.
VEYR EASY&organized. You read a chapter, then she discusses it. Fun lect! She even gives the notes so you don't have to take notes in class! Don't start the essay the night before, you won't finish.Easy tests, everything is from the book/lectures.Got an A.
nice teacher--seems to care about the students...lectures aren't so boring. exams are tough though--memorize all 3 chapters word for word!
She is one tough lady but her lectures ARE helpful. Glad I attended some of those..tough on the essay, she wants you to be Freud in less than 3 classes..glad it's over!
Nice Prof, although her lectures are boring as all hell and unhelpful. They cover irrelevant information that does not appeal on tests. Likes to trick students on tests & marks hard.
An amazing professor. take all of her classes.
Nice prof
She thinks that everyone is or should be in psychology. Very hard and unwilling to help. Just teach yourself and READ the text, dont bother with her.
makes fun of retarded people in the films she shows, I don't appreciate her sense of humour
Wonderful! It's obvious she is serious and passionate about her work, and she is generous with her time if you bother to contact her.
One of the hardest profs I've had at Ryerson. She needs to realize that Ryerson is not even a real University and psychology here is just a service department. Very tough marker. Brutal exams. She's not funny either.
nice prof but the exams are killer. way too difficult for this sad excuse of a university that we call Ryerson. I enjoyed her lectures and I'm glad I passed her class with my lowest PSYCH grade ever!!! She gives out tonnes of F grades.
amazing
Worst among all the psychology profs I took at Ryerson!!!!! She is not a good prof. Take her course if you want a bad grade. She has no mercy on anyone. She marks harder than your usual prof. She doesn't care about students
winner of a ryerson teaching award- 'nuff said
She is so helpful and her lectures are very interesting....if you only read the text book you will get a C to a B....however, if you also attend the lectures easy A! And importantly she seems like a truly nice person.
Any good comments you see below must have been written by Dr. Tara Burke herself
Exams were easy if you studied. Marks her paper very harshly!
My fave class so far. Not to tough and fun lectures. Super nice Prof.
Her lectures are really cool.. lots of visual aids, keep us in attention.. her exams are pretty hard to compete with tho.. cuz none of her questions are comparable from the text.. so gotta know the material from head to toe.. But she is totally cool!!
Great teacher!
very tough professor
one of the most funny and nicest profs ever. tough marker though.
The only psych teacher to ever make me want to learn. She was great!
she responds quickly to e-mails and is pretty helpful. she's also a really tough marker.
She knows her material very well, but she teaches way too fast! She sometimes mumbles and babbles on a topic talking about her life stories, which nobody cares about. She is a VERY HARD marker, her multiple choice questions are ridiculously HARD. I would take another professor if i were you.
Hard marker, talks too fast during lectures and tries to cover too much material and doesn't always finish. She's a nice person, always responds quickly to emails, but her study guides are not helpful and her exam questions are way too difficult.
Very disorganized!
She teaches what she is going to put on the test. If you read your work, you will get an A+. Just do a lot of reading. But seek help with the assignment paper. She is a fair person. By the way, I got a C+ and I dropped one of my PSY504 course with her. It was all my fault. I never read the book or attended class. She is also very easy on the eyes.
To anyone considering taking a psychology course, she's the toughest PSYC prof at Ryerson. Keep that in mind when making your decision.
She's a very tough marker - her final exams really need to have more time allowed, because of the essay questions. An hour and a half is not enough for two essays questions, plus short answer and multiple hcoice. However, she's helpful in her commentary on assignments.
although i ended up getting a poor mark in this class, the prof was very nice and tried to be helpful looking for a tutor for me. her exams are extremely hard but writing assignments .. she gives easy marks. funny and nice.
intro psych class...got me hooked on psych. excellent prof...excellent.
This class was very enjoyable and that has a lot to do with who was teaching it. Tara always is very clear. She gives a lot of examples and relates the material to our (the students) every day life. She is one of the best Profs i ever have had.
BEST PROFF SO FAR!!!
great class, great prof. her tests are brutal!!
I have only three words to say about this prof... awesome, awesome, awesome.
Effective prof. with examples.
Awesome prof!!
Excellent teacher!
Very nice prof but the tests are hard. Alot of material. Marked the assignments pretty easy tho
Professor who is very unhelpful. Highly recommended to avoid this class.
Tara’s tests are fair and she’s incredibly helpful, approachable, and fun! Tara also is a fair marker. You’ll definitely enjoy her classes!
Everything can go wrong in this class.
she's a great prof. receptive, organized and always makes time to for her students.
She's a great prof. Tests are kinda hard, but if you go to lecture and read the text it's decent.
This course is fairly interesting, however, I find exams to be time constrained and multiple choice section of the exams extremely ambiguous. Also, I found Tara to have limited knowledge of the topics covered so, if you have to write a paper for her course, make sure that it is the topic that she is familiar with.
Great Prof! Interesting subject and even though the material was intimidating she explained it very well and encouraged discussion in class. Always available after class for questions or help.
If you want F grade, then go ahead and register in her course. Her exams are tough as nails. Terrible course social psychology!!!
This prof was reallly really bad. Clearly avoid her I'm telling you otherwise your semester would be too painful. She gives hard exams and she will ruin your interest in psychology. I had friends at U of T where she taught some years back they also found her very tough.
everyone should take psych-law. eye-opening and cool applications. works for my crim background. she is knowledgable.
If someone perceives that she is hilarious, then she is hilarious. If someone perceives that she is hard, then she is hard.
Social psych is the one class I look forward to! 3 hours flies by.
Though this prof is nice her tests are unfair and mostly focus on the textbook even though she has a large amount of material in lecture.
This prof must be realistic of the world. I believe she lives in her own little world.
The only prof that I will get up for an 8am class for. Best prof i've had in 3 years.
She's a really good prof. She is clear, makes good notes that help you follow along and she is a fair marker.
she is extremely a worst prof
Tara's a great teacher - not easy, but covers the topics well and provides lots of extra material if you need or want it.
both the course and the prof is below average
I was hesitant to take her class judging by all the negative comments but was pleasantly surprised. Although Ive never met her in person she was very enthusiastic about the material and provided plenty of extra info. Tuff marker but very interesting stuff learned a lot. I suggest dat u pay very close attn to the text, take it online- worth it.
It is hard to find some good thing abt this person to write. All the comments say for itself.
This class is one of the best I have taken. It is actually useful, and she is kinda funny. Show up for class and read the book and you will do fine.
I notice that most of the students express agitation and negative views of this professor. Definitely, it is true that this prof. is below university standards. Maybe, she could teach some high school course in one of the Toronto's high schools.
Hah! Someone has a grudge! Don't believe them - she is worth the 8 am start time. Learned alot in this class too.
i have to say I liked this class alot. I would recomend it for sure. I also took her law course online but wish I did it in person cause she is good at lectures.
I am very pleased to have taken the first half of intro with Professor Burke and plan to take her social course next year. While I didn't think I would enjoy much of the material she managed to keep it interesting. Highly recommend. Make sure you get the textbook though. You will definitely need it too.
This lady has gone out on a limb for me twice and I can't thank her enough. She goes the extra mile.
Sooo knowledgeable, enthusiastic and interesting. Changed my view of social psych for the better.
very interesting class. she is good.
totally random comment below, because this professor was AMAZING! Her lectures are a lot of fun to attend, she makes the class so interesting and fun. Great teacher you are lucky if you have her! :]
Had my very first psychology class with her. Amazing prof, and very useful!
She teaches with enthusiasm and has some pretty funny anecdotes to share. She does not provide enough information in the notes to do well on the exams. Have to rely heavily on the text. For me, the readings were very dry and it can be problematic trying to sift through all the filler information. Overall, enjoyable class and prof.
I actually can't believe anything bad was ever said about this prof...I have to assume those people were lazy, didn't do the work and are not upset with their poor mark. Her class was my favourite, she's very helpful, clear and interesting!
This person is a joke. She clearly does not Psychology and I do not know how in the world Ryerson allowed her to teach a advanced Psychology course. She clearly is a horrible marker. If you are lucky, the highest you could get away is with a D or slightly better grade. Tests are not fair and her teaching methods and materials are inferior. Avoid...
The exam wasn't hard, yet somehow I got a low mark. Lots of other people did too. Comments on the assignment were vague and useless, incredible how so many marks were docked off. Paper mark wasn't up until exam day, how great is that? She seems nice and funny in lectures but in reality... just appalling.
Had her for the online cpy300 her marking skills were way to harsh she did not properly asses the essays and her comments were not helpful. Seemed like she just wanted to find a reason to giev low grades. Also she marks short ansewr questions way to harshly even though the material is not that difficult! Do not take her psy300 course!
I don't understand how anyone could say anything bad about her. She is awesome and makes lectures interesting by relating it to her own experiences. She's a fair marker overall, although, I will agree s/a questions on the exam were marked pretty hard. Nevertheless,I've had her twice and I would recommend taking a course with her!
terrible prof with no knowledge of psychology! Her teachings are difficult to understand and boring. never reachable. doesn't understand what student asks for. doesn't say exactly what she is looking for. looks for reasons to not give you the mark or fail you.
Took the online Psych and Law class. Really enjoyed it and did not have a problem with how she marked. Don't have to do weekly posts on BB so that eases the workload too. The course material makes cop dramas so much more interesting :)
I took both Social Psych & Psych Law with her, she's probably my favourite professor at Ryerson. She is very knowledgable and enthusiastic, and she's also quite funny which makes her classes fun to go to. Love her!
She seems really nice and her lectures are interesting but she is a hard marker. Like others have said, she looks for reasons to dock marks on assignments and exams. So good luck.
Extremely hard marker, very picky in what she wants written in essays and exams. Good lecturer, they were interesting but you'll have to work hard if you want a good grade
Lectures are extremely interesting and funny. Makes class a joy to attend. I found her very knowledgeable and easy to approach. Probably won't do well if you don't want to put the effort in but you can do extremely well if you do try hard and pay attention. Really liked her.
I honestly don't know what she asking for. The lectureseries and the text are nothing for the exams and paper. She is very picky always making excuses to give you a bad mark. feels like she is changing the rules of the games as time goes by. I've always had b marks with the same effort. She is teaching this comfortable easy money
Your guaranteed a D- no matter how hard you try. a person enrolling in upper level philosophy course with no prerequisite has a better chance for a higher grade.
She didn't put any explanations on the tests or essays for why she marked it down.
Worst professor I have ever had. Despite her overall rude demeanour. She follows absolutely no marking scheme, and is not direct in what she wants on tests and assignments. Then cannot explain her grade. The course material is interesting, but try to go with another prof. Class average was extremely low. Hard to please her.
The modules were very poorly written (and then obviously not checked for spelling and grammar mistakes). It is very interesting material, but I had to learn everything from the textbook because the modules were inadequate and provided very little information. She makes the assignment as vague as possible, and it's a gamble what mark you will get.
Hardest marker ever. Does not explain the grade she gives for assignments. Hardest exams I've written.. Overall very rude. Highly suggest selecting another professor if you want a good mark in this class.
Exam review is a joke. The exam was the hardest thing i've ever done, even though it's online and you have your notes with you, they will not save you! There were three components she graded us on, midterm, essay and final all heavily weighted. Discussion board is mandatory but there is no participation marks for it.....
WORST MARK IVE EVER GOTTEN. Exams are ridiculously difficult. Assignment was marked horribly. Highly recommend not taking this class if you can help it! A good grade is far from achievable.
One of the most two face people I have ever met. Suggest avoiding at all costs.
The worst professor I have ever had the displeasure of knowing. The entire course has 3 components: all of which have no CLEAR SET criteria or feedback. You just get a grade (a few days before the course is over by the way) and thats it. Her modules are ridiculously lacking: you essentially attempt to teach yourself the textbook. AVOID.
The final exam is tomorrow morning, less than 24 hours away, and we have still not recieved our assignment marks. The course is comprised of a mid-term, assignment and final exam. This is so unprofessional and ridiculous. She has not made any announcement or sent out any email letting us know why we havent received our marks, or apologizing.
You teach yourself the textbook, get tested on the most ridiculous questions possible, do an assignment with no clear instructions, then go into the final without receiving your assignment mark (you also dont get your midterm back so you cant see why you got the mark you did). Her modules are less than 10 pages long and arent checked for grammer
This professor was the worst one I have ever had. Her modules are several pages long and are extremely irrelevant in terms of weighing it next to the textbook. You are graded on three things only (one midterm, one assignment, one final) and it takes FOREVER to receive your mark (still waiting on the final). Unclear instructions, limited feedback.
She is everything you do not want in a professor: rude, condescending, disorganized, late, as so forth. Her modules were ridiculous and her assignment instructions were not clear. She gave us our assignment the NIGHT before our exam (she released them around 1130pm, when the exam was the next day at 10am) I was so stressed I couldn't sleep or focus
I really enjoyed Dr Burke as my professor for this course! It seems intimidating since the course is only marked by 2 exams and a paper, but they are all very straight forward and fair! You do have to read the textbook but she only tests you on the main ideas of each chapter! One problem is she takes a long time to mark, but overall I liked her!
Looking back, she was the absolute worst prof... ever. If someone's reviews on this site are under 10% would take again, and she has a LOT of reviews, that alone speaks volumes and should tell you something. All of us would not take time out of our day to leave negative reviews if she wasn't THIS bad. Avoid her, I PROMISE you.
This course needs to have a new professor. This one is the worst professor I have had. I don't understand why she teaches when she doesn't seem to care about the students. Her exams are super hard and she marks extremely hard. Stay away from the course if she's teaching.
I took Dr Burke for an online class, Psy300, and she essentially does not teach this class at all. You're on your own to read the textbook and her voluminous lecture notes. The exams are multiple choice but tricky and also badly written (factual errors). On the occasions I emailed her, she was not polite or thoughtful in her answers. Avoid her.
This class was OK. This term we were only graded on two things, a midterm and an exam both worth 50%. She takes forever to post the marks which makes no sense since the tests are mostly multiple choice and few short answers. Theres a discussion board but we did not get graded on that so no point in posting. You're basically teaching yourself.
alright, if you're taking a course with this prof I would strongly suggest you DO NOT take it. If you do the online exam and you don't finish because time ran out OR you didnt finish, she will not care, understand or regrade anything. The prof is basically useless when you email her and is NOT accommodating for anything. again, DO NOT TAKE THIS
Dr. Burke was the most unaccommodating and unavailable prof I've ever had. She does not reply to emails AT ALL. I had to find emails for other people in the psych department to see if I could get in touch with anyone else regarding the issues I was experiencing. The course material is interesting, the delivery is not.
The online law course was awesome. Only two tests and a paper so youre kind of on your own (dont procrastinate too much). Since she has a lot of experience in what she does, its a very informative course and the lectures are fun to read. The paper was a but tricky so I recommend asking her any questions you may have before you submit.
I actually didn't mind this class. The content was interesting, and even though class was online I could feel that she's passionate about the subject. Exams were pretty tough but honestly, just read the textbook and you'll be fine. This is definitely not a class you can slack off in though.
Do not take her! I had her for summer school and it was online and we had to teach ourselves everything. Marked hard too. I am not a D student so this course really brought down my gpa.
This is actually the worst course I've taken at Ryerson. She doesn't reply to emails and there is no discussion or direction on any of the work. She's basically not there for the entire course. The exam has essay questions and the exams are unnecessarily difficult for a self-taught class.
Her lectures are pre-written transcripts, she uploaded every module for the entire semester at the start & was completely inaccessible the whole time. The class has been done for 3 weeks and we only have our 1st exam grade. Idk if i even passed the course. If you can avoid, if you can't, focus on the textbook for exams. MC with 2 short answer.
Probably the worst class I ever took at Ryerson. This professor DOES NOT answer emails, even though in her introduction module it says to "email her with any questions". I do not recommend taking this class at all, complete waste of money. She waited until the drop day to release exam marks (cant get a full refund at this point).
not organized
Absolutely horrible professor. I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND IT. Please listen to me. It takes forever to get your marks back for any assignment or exam. She's not responsive, unavailable all the time!! This is not how a college professor should be. CPSY300 was a great course and it was really interesting but the delivery of the course was unacceptable!
When deciding whether or not to take PSY300, I looked to RMP to make a choice. I almost did not take it due to the amount of bad ratings Dr. Burke had. I am so glad I did not listen. This class is really interesting! Highly recommend. 2 tests and a paper. Study and you will do well!
CPSY202*. We had 3 things we were marked on and she did not release our assignment marks for two whole months. The final was done before we had it back. I did not know if I was passing or failing the class. I consider myself a good student, but this was just unacceptable. She did not answer any concerns from the class about our assignment marks.
I can attest to everything the person below me said. I'm an A student and just barely managed to get an A-. Midterm and final were both 31% and the questions were ridiculous. I did all the textbook readings (she just tells you to read entire chapters), but BARELY any of it was applicable to the tests. Asynchronous = an excuse for low effort to her.
emailed her with a question about the assignment a few days before it was due and she literally emailed me back AFTER the due date. she makes you read whole chapters of the textbook (20+ pages), her exams are so hard like half of the information i'd never even seen before - not in the lectures or textbook. she takes forever to release marks too
Her exams dont match what was talked about in lectures or textbook. she does not post the lectures and made it so much harder to pass this class. i emailed her about a question a couple of days before the exam and i never got a reply back. however, she is a good prof when you do go to her lectures.
Her exam questions are weird, it's like because the content is not rocket science she's trying to make it more difficult. If you do take her for a course make sure to read (and understand) the textbook and attend all lectures, but even then expect weird/ambiguous questions. Don't recommend taking her, she is funny though.
Marks based on only 4 things which makes it really hard to bring your grade back up if you do poorly on one. Also inaccessible outside of class (rarely answers emails) and includes questions based on side anecdotes she talked about in class (you MUST attend and take detailed notes). On the plus side her tests were online and she is a nice lady
she made easy topics overcomplicated and difficult. she didn't post her slides, and most information was not even on them, just quickly mentioned during the lecture. also SO difficult to reach outside of class, never responds to emails. very tough grader, and took so long to get marks back. this was my lowest grade (everything else was an A)
The slides she made were not clear. If you miss a class you won't even be able to access the PowerPoint because she doesn't post it, she only posts a lecture outline which covers all the information. It is very textbook-based, so you have to read the textbook. Even topics that weren't discussed but were in the textbook come on the exam.
she is very nice and funny which makes the lectures interesting and fun. However, tests (are online) were not based on lecture material. Tests are after 3 lectures. they are based on her examples talked about in class, slides, textbook, and some that I didn't know where they were from. She is an average grader, not unfair but not easy either.
I took this course over the summer and it was the worst experience. The prof never answered my emails and I received most of my marks after the course was finished. Midterm and Exams were so so hard and her modules teach you nothing. You really need to teach yourself from the textbook if you want to do good.
The most awful professor you would ever come through. Does not care about how she teach because the professor has no idea what she is talking. I know few people who either got a grade D, D-, D. If you manage to get anything over D you should be happy. Does not have any people / communication skills. I would not take psychology with this lady.
Professor Burke's modules are easy to read and help understand the fundamentals of the course, but don't have a ton of information. Prioritize the textbook chapters and videos. There's 2 midterms and one final, which have difficult mc, but easy essay questions if you study. Make sure you study and you'll be fine!
Responded to emails very slow so I had a lot of issues going forward with the course. Things were not made clear. Course was fine and content was interesting enough.
Unfortunately, Professor Burke didn't respond to any emails (regarding AAS requests, technical failures during the exam, or requests to see graded work). She was very hands-off in delivering this course, with most marks withheld until after the drop date. Modules were not a helpful tool while studying, so prioritize the textbook.
Tough course with a distant professor. Readings are extensive and exams cover obscure content. However, using Unstuck AI and staying disciplined can help you succeed. Overall, a challenging but manageable class if you put in the work.
Dr. Burke's psych and law class with my favourite class. The lectures were engaging and full of class discussions that were interesting and helpful to understand the content. On top of making classes enjoyable and the content manageable, she shows a genuine care for her students, and is just in general a kindhearted and compassionate person. 10/10
Despite some initial hesitation, this ended up being my favourite course. Dr. Burke utilizes plenty of examples to really explain concepts rather than expecting students to learn from definitions alone. She encourages class discussion, making lectures interesting and engaging. Above all, she cares about what she teaches and her students.
Do not take this professor's course. She's unorganized, doesn't answer emails, and refuses to post materials like slides or videos shown in class. Exams rely on remembering every detail from lectures without resources. Assignments are poorly managed deadlines; feedback is delayed. Save yourself the stress and avoid this class entirely.

Avoid this professor's course. She's disorganized, ignores emails, and doesn't share slides or videos from class. Exams focus on remembering details from discussions without support. Assignments are a mess deadlines and feedback are always late. The stress isn't worth it. Choose another course if you can.
Love her as a person, but as a prof she is an unnecessarily hard grader - you don't receive much of an outline (NO rubrics at all) when it comes to assignments, and the feedback is not constructive. Could listen to her lecture all day - but would appreciate more guidance and structure in the course. Also doesn't answer emails at alllll
Most lecture time is devoted to cringe self-deprecation and stories that centre herself as the lovably quirky main character. Very hard to sit through. Test questions are vague and sometimes contradict textbook material. I only did well because I like the subject and read the textbook. Dropped to A- because I got 0/5 on "online activites".
Extremely unorganized, majority of the time spent during lecture was just her chatting about her accomplishments and work. Multiple choice questions were strictly textbook and her assignment instructions were very unclear. A shame because the course is extremely interesting.
dropped the class after the midterm, which was nonsense. She's funny and holds a lecture well but if I wanted entertainment, I'd go to the theatre. Midterm is ridiculous and confusing. highly DON'T recommend her.
The worst professor ever.
Dr. Burke is the funniest prof I've had and she's genuinely so sweet; the only compaint I have is that her exam questions can be confusing and make sure you read the textbook for sure, can't do well if you don't.
The professor is not reachable AT ALL. Never answers emails. Only 1 out of 4 marks were returned before the final (35%). Had 2 papers, 2nd built off first, but first grade was not returned ever, let alone before pt 2 was due. Unreachable when asked about the status of grades. Course content relatively easy for an upper elective.
Tara Burke is literally the worst professor I have ever had at TMU. There is one good review for CPSY300 and I am almost sure she posted it herself. She doesn't grade midterms and assignments until weeks later and doesn't provide a rubric either. She released midterm grades after the date to drop the course so if you didn't do well you'd be cooked.
