If you must take geography, make sure you take him. He will help you with everything that you need. Great class, very active. 3 tests, 3 quizes and 3 papers. He really isn't that picky on the papers, as long as you did the paper correctly, he doesn't mind
Dr.Joseph is the best in the east and the west. Attending this class was a great opportunity to me. If I need another geography course, I Would difinetly take it with him.
Easiest class ever, just do the questions in the study guide and pay attention in class. Tests are like 60-100 questions, however they are verrrrry easy tests.
It teaches with passion and knows the material which in turn makes the class much easier.

Awesome class, great professor. He is really open minded and his lectures are modern and integrate well with current events. His tests and quizzes were elementary level and his papers were extremely simple. All of his tests and quizzes come directly from the study guide for the book which he wrote!

Very fun class, very easy to follow. Show up, take the tests (there are a few suprise quizzes that you can't make up if you miss), and you should do fine. This is one geography loving guy.

Very repetitive, makes wierd noises all the time, fruitier than a box of fruit of loops but very easy. Warning if you are annoyed by wierd noises and repitiion dont take him.
really easy class DON'T buy the book you will regret it
As I was in his earliest class, he was most often late (every class I attended), usually 5 minutes, but some times as long as 20 minutes. I kept track and it added up to 1h 48m of class time lost (I did miss 6-7 days though, it could have been more). Follow the syllabus and youll do ok. sometimes he is moody, ive seen him rip papers for talking.
I took Dr.Joseph he was always late for class and his test were a breeze he makes you study for no reason ,he really does not give you any back up on whats going to be on a test.Just study the people ,place and patterns,you will have and A ,take good notes to. By the the way he is boring

His tests were easy but he was probably one of the most annoying teachers i ever had, u cant open your phone, talk to any1 or breath in his class. he would get realllly mad over the dumbest things and attendence matter soooo much to him. he needed to relax, trust me dont take his class its the worse time of ur life.

Great teacher. Kind of boring if you know some stuff about geography before attending his course. You dont need the 100 dollar kristopherson book AT ALL. 3 quiz's 3 test's 3 papers. Blow off class if your a Geo major he will make you want to stick your path.

Easy teacher. 3 tests, 3 quizzes, 3 one page papers. You'll learn cool stuff, and you only need the skinny book that he wrote. You dont need the expensive thick one at all. Pay attention and don't act up in class, and you'll get an A with little outside studying :) Just dont whisper, pass notes, or answer phones during class.. thats reasonable :)

Took class on line. I was told after that he has NEVER taught on line beforE and it showed. Horrible class, did not learn a thing. WEEKLY QUIZ;SUPER HARD. 3 EXAMS ARE IMPOSSIBLE, 65 QUESTIONS IN 60 MINUTES. IT TOOK MORE THAN A MINUTE TO READ THE QUESTION AND THE CHOICES. WASTE OF TIME. DO NOT TAKE.
No matter what you do don't take his class online. You can only earn 675 points in the class, so the tests count A LOT. he gives you 60 min. to take a 65 question test and he never updates the bulletin board online and takes a long time grading things. DON'T TAKE HIM!

Some of the people below are complaining about him stopping the class over them "for stupid things"?! I don't believe so, if you act like a little kid then I don't think any of you belong in college! 7/10 I took this course online, and the professor takes forever to grade month-old assignments. He piles them up till the end of the semester then grades them. He's not unintelligent, I'll give him that, but most of his facts are WRONG. It was really easy to fly through his class though, I didn't buy any of his books and got an A. Not recommended.
This is the first class in my 3 years at college where I actually walked away feeling more educated. This class was a walk in the park if you keep an open mind and pay attention. I'm the kind of person that never studies for tests and I do my homework last minute. I still walked away with an A. Just be sure not to use your cell phone or fall asleep

Dr. Joseph is very well conducted. If you actually participate, this class is an easy A and is a rewarding learning experience. Simply avoid using your cell phone and talking to others during the lectures, possibly ask him some questions about the material, and he'll be nice to you. I recommend both of his courses! (131-132)

Dr. Joseph is really great. Just remember people, places, and movement! Geography could be really boring...but not with Dr. J. He doesn't put up with all the high school BS that happens at a CC level, so don't talk on your phone&show respect to him and classmates, and show interest in the subject.ps:if you keep track of your own grades=no probs
I found this instructor to be very difficult. I read, studied, and tried to be prepared for his exams and quizes, yet did very poor. Professor took too long to grade work, and did not reply to emails very quickly. This was the worst online class I ever took and would not recommend him.
He is very easy! His tests are made up of the same exact qts from his book, people, places, and patterns. In fact, dont even buy the larger book you never use it, I was fine with only his book.It seems as if he tries his hardest not to give you an A. I think he miscalculated my grade at te end of the sem but he wouldnt answer emails, I got a B+.
He wants you to think the way he does, if you say something he doesn't agree with then duck down he's crazy.
I took his class online and found it to be somewhat difficult. Take for granted it was my last semester of high school. Exams were pretty hard, Doesnt grade things quick, weekly quizes were annoying & were due at the end of week. papers were easy. I treated it kinda as a blowoff and got a B-. Not 2 many geo teachers at the school so i guess hes ok

The online class is very hard...the questions on the annoying weekly quizzes are on topics hardly mentioned in the book. You get marked down for writing too much.
ok i took this guy online and he is not helpful, i emailed him couple of times with a Q and he'll respond by typing the Q again!!!also I DON'T GET why we get marked down for writing too much, thats so gay ITS AN ONLINE CLASS ISN'T? also OMG it takes him weeks to grade a paper.
Best teacher ever! Seriously, but don't take his online class. Reason being... his lectures that you'll be missing out on if you take an online class are so very interesting. He inspired me to take more geography classes. If only he taught more @ HFCC.
This class was the highlight of my semester...If you come to class, pay attention, and keep your phone off(as it should be) you will be fine. He takes serious interest in the people who take part in his class..If you don't he will call you out! He is a must have teacher.

This guy has you buy a book for one reason: he wrote it. He doesn't help you out and is inconsiderate. He acts like he's teaching at harvard when he's really teaching at a community college. He packs the class with assignments and I highly regret taking his class
He is be far the worst teacher i have ever had in my entire schooling career!! He is inconsiderate and a really jerk. He treats that class like a high school classroom. Don't expect any respect from him. And since he has a PHD, he thinks he's above you and considers his way of thinking correct and yours wrong! Don't take this teacher!
This is not a bad class. I took his class online. The stuff is easy to understand, but the tests can be a little hard. I received an A- in the class... It is not a blow off class, and I would not recommend it to anybody, but it is not the worst either. Good Luck.
This is one of the easiest online classes I have ever taken. Easy A for geog 131, I don't know about 132, but I heard he is tougher in 132.
I Love him! I took him for Geography 131 & 132 his lectures are so moving they really opened my eyes. I do now love Geography. Follow his rules dont talk while he is and DO NOT TEXT IN CLASS or he will call you out.

Dr. Joseph Tarek is probably the best teacher I have ever had as a teacher.He is straight to the point no bs no trick questions on the exams or the quizzes just the materials in the book readings,in class notes,and and workbook questions.
We need more teachers like Dr.Joseph, he is absolutely the best! He's very clear! Just listen carefully, take notes, and do all your work, and i guarantee an A. If you do this then the tests will be a breeze for you.

I took this class online, I had to read and study, you get 3 exams, the first one is stressful but you get use to it, the quizzes are also stressful, 10 questions, 15 minutes. It's not a blow off class, but its not crazy hard either.
HIGHLY reccomended. He opens up your eyes and his grading scale is VERY simple and CLEAR. 3 quizzes, 3 tests, and 3 papers (1 page each). Not stressful at all and he is a great guy. Just don't text or talk while he's talking and show up to class and you will do fine.
Very passionate about his subject. His grading is straight-forward and simple. Everything on tests are related to either lecture or the book, nothing is missed. He likes to show both sides of every story he presents and encourages thinking out of the box. Very clear and fair. Would recommend to anyone, especially those interested in Geo.

I think he grades assignments pretty harshly for a community college course, but then I learned that he teaches at U of M - Dearborn as well so it makes perfect sense. Quizzes and exams are pretty much out of the book, but he's very particular about the essay assignments and the instructions for them aren't always clear. Good class overall, though.
Amazing Teacher! Very passionate about geography. Interesting, thought provoking class! Easy tests & quizzes. HE DOES NOT GRADE THE PAPERS HARSHLY! He truly cares about his students. Those who complain about him are those who did not respect or follow his rules. (No phone, no talking!) SIMPLE! Enjoy the class! And remember location matters! :)

Dr. Joseph opens your eyes to many things in geography, not just maps and memorization, it's all about Space. If you read anything negative about Dr. Joseph it's because, he politely ask students not to text or talk on their phones while in his class.

I took this class online my junior year of high school. I'd say pretty simple a quiz each week and about two large tests. Had discussion boards everyone and then and two essays. I got a B because the essays were practically impossible to answer. The topics were confusing. You must have the book for the class being the essay topics are in there.
I took geography online, and whenever I emailed him, he would never reply. But overall, the weekly quizzes are pretty fair since you can try them 3 times. The only annoying thing would be that he doesn't take the highest score. There's 2 essays, 3 DB, 3 exams and a weekly quiz. Be prepared to do LOTS of reading if you're taking online.

If you're not a online class learner, I think you should take his class in a class room setting. This class was very difficult to me. If you do no read directions of course that will mess you up. Im not a student that is found of reading and you have to do a lot of that. Then most of the material you read is not on the quiz or test.
Dr. Joseph. A professor that wakes up every day with an obligation to do the most he can possibly do to effect this world positively. Definitely an eye opener, but he can show you the path you have to walk it. That means walk into his class with a smile and determination. You'll most definitely grow. Walk in with swag, it'll be just another class.
3writing assign. from a geog perspective, 3quiz along with 3tests. videos being watched will be on tests. Pretty good teacher talks a whole lot. Take notes on lectures and study the (people, places, patterns) book. Don't really need the Christopherson book, but he may assign a map in there. Get a student o let you copy it at library if possible.

One of the best professors I've ever had. Very talkative but his lectures are about real life and how geography is useful to everyone. Barely any homework and barely uses the book. His tests and quizzes are not difficult in the slightest if you attend class and listen. Overall, definitely take his class if you're considering it.
Dr. Jospeh is great. If you want to actually learn something new and inspiring and not just another boring geography class, take this class. Strict no phone policy enforced!! It's an easy class if you study the material. All tests are from the quiz booklet, which provides the answers to the questions. Easy Tests.

You must buy the book he has written, that is ONLY quizzes and single paragraphs of unbacked and uncited information. Most profs would give you the quiz and assignment, with Prof Joseph you need to buy it, either from the publisher or the campus bookstore. Another useless cost for a college education.
Don't expect to get a response for your email with any questions you might have. He doesn't let you know what you did wrong on quizzes, exams or essays. He would just deduct points and not explain why. I don't know how he is in a classroom lecture but don't take his online classes.
Very condescending and you have to buy "his" book with only quizzes and bare minimum paragraphs that are not cited. The quizzes and tests are such a joke that he would come up with the quizzes right before assigning it. Plus he was always late by at least 15 minutes. Also liked to use the class as a open forum for him to rant about politics. Awful
If you're planning to take this class, here's some advice: Don't even bother reading the Chapters, because it's a waste of time and the stuff won't even be on the Exam. Focus on the Sections (Multiple Choice/Critical questions/True or False) in the People, Places & Patterns Book because all of those will be on the Exams.
As other commenters have said, he likes to rant about politics a lot. The Pulsipher textbook is almost useless, very little content from the book is on the exam. However, content from his textbook is on every exam. His lectures are verbal, very little writing on the board or using video/powerpoint. Beware visual learners.
Easy class but also very boring... he goes on and on about other things the two main topics he used to talk about was race and the president, like who cares. Very easy class you just have to review the questions in his textbook. The questions in the book are the same questions on the test. Also don't come late or use phone in his class, he gets mad
His grading makes no sense. He gave me a bad grade on a great essay and when I asked about it he kept repeating the same thing. He takes too long to respond to emails and when he does, his feedback is awful. Dumbed my next papers down and got As on all of them. HIS book is useless don't buy it. Quiz answers are on quizlet. The actual book helps.

Favorite classes from undergraduate. Keep an open mind and this guy can really shed some light on the world around you. His assignments never put overwhelming pressure on you and he explains everything he is looking for in advance (including essays). If you need science credits (like I did pre-nursing school), these classes are great.

As for an online class, its understandable that you have to read the content and understand on your own. There is no lecture, so you have to read. However when it comes to the essays he is a tough grader and his feedback doesnt always apply to the content of the essay. Be sure to mention some terms from the book in your essay.
I took his class online and there were 2 required books, one for reading and the other had questions for us to answer and submit. We had weekly quizzes that were short and easy. If you read the book it should be easy. overall I enjoyed this class as it relates many of the topics to real life.
The quizzes and exams he gives the class are off-topic and he never replies to any emails.
Dr. Joseph was very caring towards the students during the pandemic. He often provided us with all kinds of resources we may need during this difficult time. His class was very easy as well. All his assignments for the semester are listed in a document so there will be no surprise homework or tests. I definitely do recommend taking him.
His class was fairly easy with a quiz every week. He was nice, took him online. Did have a few essays which he was a kinda a tough grader on. Just make sure to attend class, participate, and do the quizzes and youll pass.
All in all a nice guy. You can tell he cares about his students and wants them to learn, and if something happens that prevents you from completing an assignment he will accommodate you and normally give you a small extension. In total, you have 1 quiz a week with 3 essays and 3 exams every now and then. He is a tough grader on essays.

I don't recommend taking him at all! absolute worst professor I've never had a problem with any professor except him.when going on to take my final exam it had an automatic 0 when emailing him to reach out about the issue he deducted 10% claiming i took the exam when clearly its a glitch. very rude and horrible professor.
the only reason i got a b- is i stopped going to this professor class because he always use the time of the lecture to try to speak about the coming election in a way to convince the students into what he believe and keeps claim that this is geography, without mentioning any candidate name but you will know who's candidate whats you to choose
He pretty much talks in circles about the same thing in every class but other then that, he's good. Not too much online work but it's super clear grading. I would recommend anyone to take this class if they need a easy social science credit!
Straightforward online class. Weekly short quizzes & 3 exams. All multiple choice. Professor assigns 2-3 essays, if he just gets the hunch u used an AI to generate it, u get a 0. Professors these days seem to grade essays on whether they're AI generated or not. AI? u get a zero. No AI? u get a 100 even if ur essay sounds like a child produced it.

The workload is very light: one short weekly quiz after you read weekly chapter (3 attempts on quiz, but questions are sort of random). There's also a 300-word essay worth 25 points. The essay is easy, and he grades generously despite poor writing. Do not use AI whatsoever. The only thing dislikable in this class is the randomness of the questions.

1 quiz/week, 1 essay, and 3 tests in the semester. You have to be aware of the deadlines. I missed the essay deadline and and thought I'd never get an A. I had a B the whole semester. I got 10/10 on every quiz and above a 90/100 on all 3 tests, and eventually got it up! He also has an outline for emailing him but I've never had to. I'd take again!
