You can tell Taro is a first year teacher . Easy class but difficult grader and punishes students on grading assignment for little details. Be littles students as well. No industry experience which is common for teachers straight out of school . Acts and talks as the equivalent of a high school teenage girl. Would not recommend for good grades.
Easy class, very strict grader. Still a new teacher and treats students as if they should be able to have work at an equal level of his own consulting job and something he should be able to show to his boss/managers. Ridiculous grading and didnt teach anything
Love this teacher! I actually attended all the classes cause I enjoyed the class and he made it interesting to us. Tough grader though like you're not getting over 70
Taro is a great teacher! He's really passionate about what he teaches and easily connects with students since he's a younger prof. He is a pretty tough marker and doesn't really cover the material for the final in class so you do have to read but still a super interesting course!
Taro is a first year professor, and it does show. He is an extremely difficult grader, and his grading rubrics are not very in-depth. His lectures are not correlated to the textbook, making them only useful for base knowledge and assistance in assignments. Aside from extremely harsh grading, Taro is a very genuine and nice individual.
GREAT teacher, really nice and understanding. Makes class fun and interesting. SPEAKS VERY WELL ENGLISH WHICH YOU DONT GET OFTEN IN THIS SCHOOL. Kindof a tough marker but will hear u out if u think u should've gotten a bit more. *Little advice: read the textbook throughout the course, you'll need it for the final!! Would definitely recommend!!!
Taro is a first-year undergraduate professor. He use to teach masters so his grading is super tough & unrealistic. He does not give out a 90 unless it's worth showing his colleague. You are getting no higher than a 70. However, he is very passionate and is very funny. He is enjoyable to listen too but it's not worth taking his class.
Although he is super entertaining and funny, this teacher is the hardest grader I have ever had. He is not clear with what he expects on assignments and will only give you an A if he'd use the work to show his own clients. Class average for work is always in the 60s. Good luck if you take him!
Taro is an enthousiatic, young, interesting teacher!!!!One of the few classes I am super attentive, for real, just because he's so captivating. He is actually very funny and is super approchable and always welcomes comments and opinions. He really cares about his students and wants them to understand not only academics but also how real life works.
great teacher with great outline. However, he corrects severely.
Taro is very captivating. I garuntee you will have a good time in class. He will teach you everything that is not included in the textbook, so do your readings. He will do many practice problems in class to help you prepare for the final. Most important things to note: DO YOUR READINGS and you will pass the final. Warning, tough grader!
Hey everyone ! Taro is a really cool teacher but is a hard grader! Like other comments mention, he only gives an A if he is willing to sell it to his clients (He has a Marketing Firm). However, his class is very interesting and overall is a good teacher for his first time teaching. 8/10 WOULD RECOMMEND
Taros a great teacher who knows his stuff. Hes very dynamic and approachable. Projects are actually useful and enjoyable. He does have very specific expectations of students, which are sometimes a little bit too specific, and he is a pretty tough grader. That being said, when you get a good grade from Taro, you know you really deserved it.
Fun and passionate, but tough grader.
Im a grade A student from college and so far I have 70% Class average 50-70, highest 80. He's a good human being but he's a very tough grader for a first year. You can follow his samples and still manage to get 60-70. He will NOT proof read your work if you ask for it. You have 3 presentations to do. Attendance is checked the last 3 classes.
really though grader, usually I'm an A student since I was a kid but it's the first time I feel i might fail a class. the material is not hard it's just the prof's grading.
Very tough grader Takes off marks fr the smallest things Does. not prepare enough for the assignments Nice though Funny Entertaining
Taro is a tough grader but I wouldn't say he is the toughest grader I've had, but his grading rubric is detailed. During his lectures, he interacts with his students and gives real-life examples. Lectures are not boring at all. Many group projects, they are not bad at all and you learn a lot. Final is based on the textbook.
Taro is one of the pickiest and toughest graders ever. Most of the reasoning behind his grading does not make sense what so ever. He removes marks for the smallest things. Class average is usually in the 60s. Sometimes, he is not clear with with his assignments and docs marks, and then says that it was in the guidelines but actually wasn't.
Taro's lectures are amazing. His class is one of my favorite classes to go to. Hes very charismatic talks about relevant issues and has a lot of energy. Unfortunately he's really hard on grading but he'll be the first to tell you that, if youre looking for an easy ride don't take his class, but you'll learn a lot if you do.
Taro is amazing. A resourceful prof for a head start at university. He's pretty chilled as a person but a tough grader! He wants you to attain perfection in communication. But well, it's hard to expect such level from first year students. He should teach higher level classes. I'll say it again - He is an amazing prof!
One of the most entertaining class and best teacher ever. You'll never be bored. However he is a really tough grader with a class average of 60s. If you compare with your others friends in COMM205, their class average is way way higher than Taro's Class.
Taro is super engaging, which makes his lectures actually interesting to listen to. He has a fresh and young perspective on communications and is very knowledgeable in his field. Only downside is that he's a very tough marker, but that is because he has high standards from his students. Overall great guy, but be ready to put in the work.
Taro is a great teacher and I genuinely enjoyed his class (COMM205). He certainly has high standards and can be nitpicky on small things. He's a really engaging speaker and prof and has great command of the class. Very good guy to get business insight from, especially for marketing students. Taught me actual useful material. Would 100% take again.
Very good teacher, makes a long class (3 hours) enjoyable/entertaining. Teaches valuable lessons and is very knowledgeable. Tough grader, dont take him if you want an easy A. Other teachers that teach this course do NOT grade as hard, so taking his course (and not putting effort) will hurt your GPA.
If you are looking to boost your GPA, he is not the right professor. EXTREMELY tough grader. However, he is very smart and will make you want to come to class because he makes it interesting.
He is a tough grader. However, he makes a boring subject interesting. Gives great lectures and has a lot of charisma. He will go through the material quickly to then talk about real world situations. He prepares you well for the final. It's rare to get a grade over 70 with him either for papers or presentations.
Honestly, his class is super interesting and teaches you things that are really useful and that you literally will use for other classes. BUT, as everyone said, he is such a tough grader. He has high expectations for his students which means you have to go BEYOND what he wants which is really hard, especially as a first year/semester student.
Taro has great lectures and has many good examples of what is related to the real world. In the class, he is specific on what you need to study for the final. He is a tough grader and the assignments are not always the clearest but he does give good feedback as well.
He is a tough grader but he also grades in a different way. I went to go see my final exam and there was no writing on the exam. He just had a grade breakdown of my exam on an excel document. It makes you wonder were those numbers come from and when I asked him he didn't explain it. He just went over the general grading rubric.
Best comm205 teacher in concordia!! He gives great lectures
He's a good guy. He' intellectual and knows his stuff. But he's a tough grader and doesn't really teach what's on the outline. If you want to boost up your GPA with an easy class like Comm 205, I wouldn't recommend him.
Honestly, his rate my professor rating should be higher. I really enjoyed being a student of his. He really isn't a tough grader, just do the assignments properly and that's it. His lectures are entertaining and captivating.
The horrible grade I'm getting in this class is almost worth how amazing of a person he is. Super knowledgeable and his in-class anecdotes are hilarious
I honestly dont think the ratings are fair. He is a very good professor. He is able to make a 3hr class fun and interesting. Although, some students think he is a tough grader, I think he is fair you just have to put in the effort. He also gives a lot of feedback which really allows you to learn and improve. Take him if you can !
whatever people are typing is just false , the teacher is a hard grader and decent at best (yes the 3hrs do go by fast) , with that said just read the book and attend the class that are necessary that's it ! Taro has his own agenda to indoctrinate and preach about his philosophy in his liberal head about business .
Lectures are really engaging and entertaining (tough first thing Friday morning tho). But is the most difficult marker I've ever had. Everyone got 60s. Also you'll be doing a lot of presentations, and he seems to care more about how you present yourself rather than the content. SO be sure to have a good group and practice, practice, practice.
he's a really showoff teacher and tough grader!!! always talks about Japan and starbucks. you'll loose mark just because of small details that are not related to the course, or it's because of how you present. yeah you get engaged in class but there's no need to be that harsh with the students because it's still a first year course.
Assigns groups at the beginning of the semester, you don't get to choose. 25% of the grade is based on group grades, which is rather unfair if you don't have a choice about who you are with. Very tough grader as mentioned before. Some sections' best grade ended up being a B+, others had a single student get at least an A-. Fun lectures though.
Any of the reviews that say an A is possible if you put the effort in is a lie! I have a 4.15 GPA and couldn't get above 75% on any of the assignments. He takes forever to mark anything, it took 5 weeks after the exam to get my final grade and he gives practically no feedback. He also doesn't prepare you at all for the final. Don't take his class!
He is an amazing teacher! Very knowledgeable and his class are always interesting to be in. You get to experience hands on situations and he teaches you useful tips that you can use in your buisness journey. As for his grading, I would say he for sure makes you work hard for an A. Overall, great teacher !
For the first time I was not tired going into an 8 am lecture, rather I was excited to learn since each lecture would apply concepts to the business world. Very enthusiastic teacher and relates really well with students. Provides fair grades and extremely detailed feedback. Great prof, could not recommend him enough!
Worth the hustle. He gives real world examples and really prepares you for harder business classes. You need to really work hard but it pays off and makes you become a better communicator and crisis handler. No crowd/questions will scare you after his class.
I had Taro this semester and although he is a tough grader, his classes are super interesting and he does care about his students. He tells a lot of personal stories and gives you great insight on the business world. If you put in the work, ask/answer some questions in class and find a good team (the hard part) you should get a good grade easily!
He is amazing.
Extremely hard marker. His ego and arrogance runs this class unfortunately. Students at the end of the day are taking your class to succeed. You need to put yourself in student's shoes and help them. I would not recommend to take any of his courses unless you want to put in more work and hours than other classes only to receive harsh grades.
tough grader and he will not even reply to your email, if he doesn't like what you are saying. this class is about communication and being professional and he is the complete opposite of that. Will not recommend this teacher to any one.
Taro is a very knowledgeable teacher! You wont be bored in his class. And honestly I dont see why so many people are complaining about his grading. Hell tell you exactly what he wants from you, just follow, do the work, participate, and youll get a good grade. Group projects are tough if you have a lazy team I must say, but great prof!
For all the times you've said "Grades don't matter", I hope this review finds you well. This teacher is the hardest grader I have EVER had in my whole life. This is an intro JMSB class, not a graduate class at Harvard. Do yourself a favour and take another teacher because he's a GPA killer. Don't bother to fight him for grades. DO NOT take him.
I dont understand why so many students complain about him. In my opinion, Taro is a nice Prof and he teachs you about the reality. Comm 205 is a heavy class in general. If you work hard ,you will be fine .
Taro will give you a bad grade and then when you ask why, he wont have sufficient proof to back it up. Hes is such a tough grader its insane. Comm205 is an easy class, but unfortunately if you take teachers like him, itll just lower your GPA. Participation matters. Hell know if you dont attend class one day. All he talks about it starbucks
His lectures are somewhat interesting but nothing he says in class will help you for the final. Class is actually so pointless but because attendance matters, you have to be present for the whole time. Hard grader, assigns groups himself and is super cocky. Its impossible to get an A, i wouldnt retake him.
His class and lecture are simply useless. He never give clear instructions about project. Then 3 days before the due day started to post all the requirements to make you rework again. He don't even record his class. So, what's point of online teaching. Anyway students can just record the class at home with or without his permission.
He only gives average grade to people. Doing everything said in the guideline and only receiving B. He never give A to students. HE IS 100% A GPA KILLER DON'T TAKE HIS CALSS! Beside, he's a GPA killer, he is also an uni ranking killer. Go back to Concordia, don't come back at uOttawa. We don't need an incompetent prof like you.
Took him digital marketing class at uOttawa. He's really interesting and passionate about what he teaches. He's my favorite teacher.
Amazing prof. Great lectures, bilingual, relatable and takes good care of his students. Not easy by any means but if you put in the work you'll get the grades. Bonus points he's a car enthusiast. 10/10 would recommend
What was done in class was completely out of subject. Last class instead of covering material for the final, he went off and talked about job applications. Oh! And remember he never gives out A's.
He's nice but way too harsh for a first COMM class. Lectures were pointless.
Lectures were very useless and required attendance because of participation marks. He is very pretentious and grades ambiguously. TAs copypaste feedback without actually reading. avoid Taro
I had the best experience of learning Comm 205 from Prof. Taro. He is very genuine in his teaching. Always making sure student would not be missing out anything. Highly recommended
This Prof. is built different. He's an amazing teacher. Great lectures, good feedback, friendly and available to students. Give Taro a red pen though and it goes to 100 real quick. This Prof might be the toughest grader at JMSB. I wouldn't take him again, but I'm not disappointed with my experience with him.
Prof. Taro makes his class interesting to attend. Gives detailed explanations for assignments, group projects, etc. Not all material will be covered in class so be prepared & put effort into working hard all semester long as he looks for quality work.
One of the best profs Ive had!! He made comm 205 interesting and taught us skills that are useful for the real world. He is extremely caring and passionate about what he does. Some say hes a tough marker, but I think hes fair. He provides detailed grading rubrics. Follow it and youll be good. Would definitely take him again!
Amazing teacher. If you follow the grading rubric that he provides, you will get a good grade. Also, he always provides positive and constructive feedback.
One of the worst prof ever. Only teach you about unimportant and unrelated subject to the marketing industry. He is just a wanna be prof. He will talk a lot about his "entrepreneurship experience", but in reality he know nothing about the real industry standard. I had to self learn Google Analytic, Facebook Blueprint in order to get a job.
Taro is one of the most difficult graders at JMSB, ESPECIALLY for a intro level class. His lectures are engaging but don't cover graded material. Guidelines are clear, but follow them for an average grade, he wants more. This isn't a hard class. Spend time on the assignments and you'll do okay, but aiming for an A will have you frustrated.
Avoid like the plague
Worst prof, disrespectful, all reviews above 2 star a fake and any 5 star review is made by him.
Taro was an absolute nightmare compare with other professors. His demeanor was characterized by arrogance, hypocrisy, and a rigid adherence to formalities. He seemed to favour students who flattered him while showing zero flexibility in reasonable situations, often imposing strict grading standards. Piece of advice: avoid taking any of his classes.
By far the worst teacher I've ever had in my educational life. Talks only about the Birds personality model and his clinic. Did not learn anything, did not use course material. You lose braincells and time with this teacher. Disrespectful towards students and does not grade fairly. He does not believe first year students deserve more than a B-.
All the negative comments are right he's absolutely terrible he wrote any review above 2
all his lectures are useless, the final is on the textbook which he does not go over because he loves the sound of his voice and his boring topics too much. Also, if you get put on a team (which he randomly chooses) with bad members, say goodbye to any chance of getting a good grade. And he sure as hell won't help you out
His lecture slides are useless and irrelevant to the final exam. His He is an extremely harsh grader and is not understanding in the slightest when it comes to his students. He takes forever to get your grades back and takes weeks to answer simple emails. Taro made what should be an easy intro course, super difficult and time-consuming.
Probably the worst teacher to step foot into a classroom. He is an unreasonable grader and tends to ramble about nonsense in class. At some point, I was wondering which topic he was teaching because his information wasn't even close to the information in the book. I am certain they found this guy in somewhere on St Catherine scraping gum.
Just a dude yappin about whatever comes to his mind for 2h30 watching paint dry is more productive than going to his lectures save yourself the time
Extremely arrogant but super insecure is the nicest thing I can say about him.
Very nice and smart guy, BUT he is by far the toughest grader I have ever seen. This is supposed to be an intro to communication class not a public speaking and professional writing course. Was meant to be a potential GPA booster ended up being my lowest grade of the semester;I advise that you do not take him for the sake of your GPA.
I don't know why my other review was deleted, but guys PLEASE STAY AWAY FROM HIM !!! You HAVE to trust the reviews. He has the most unclear and biased grading criteria I've ever seen. He will literally argue with the whole class instead of ever admitting he is wrong. Super high demands for such a basic class. Run.
Concordia needs to fire this dude he makes an introduction class more complicated than 400 classes. No one respects him, his classes are useless, report him to the dean cause this guy is lost as a teacher. Better qualified to serve me my coffee in the morning. No wonder no one hires him where he lives and he drives all the way to mtl every week
The worst teacher I had this semester and it is supposed to be a simple course yet he makes it complicated. Powerpoints are useless; hence, you will have to teach yourself for the final. Tough grader and gives poor instructions. I attempt to follo his instructions and it is still wrong..
He is not a horrible teacher. He speaks a lot about things that matter in business communication but has nothing related to the book itself, which isn't helpful when studying. He is a tough grader, and one of the only profs for Comm 205 to make students wear suits for the final presentation, which was annoying and forced me to go out and spend.
I took this class a few semesters back, and I still hold a grudge over this man's teaching style. Avoid at all costs, protect your mental health and sanity. Like please
To be avoided.
Is not made to teach.
