excellent prof. Entertaining and really knows his stuff.
he was a really good and clear. he's young so he relates to his students easily. His tests were easy, he tells you whats important all the time. and he's super good looking!
only class i attend every single week, awesome teacher, makes class enjoyable, very funny guy
Great professor, makes the biochemistry aspect of drugs and addiction very clear. Lets you know what he's looking for on exams, and is hilarious. The course is still pretty tough though, but it's at least fair.
The prof is extremely enteraining which made me going to class each week. Make sure you attend because the material is tough but Terry is very clear in what to study for during exams. This is an excellent class but you must complete your readings or you will be lost.
Awesome. So funny, intelligent, relatable, entertaining. Made me want to go to the class and made learning about horribly boring chemical structures really enjoyable! I would definately recommend him and give him two thumbs up on being a WICKED [and hot] prof. Well done, Tarry!
Good prof if you are under 25 years old and like a prof that has stories about his NON-drug use. He knows biological aspect of addiction, but not social part of it. He needs more movies to show addiction. Fair and moderately hard exams. 80% of classes were only 1.5 - 2 hours (supposed to be 3). I am 40+ and former addict. Could have covered more.
Tarry is a great prof! hes well spoken, hes always clear. He does a great job of making the material as interesting as possible, i really enjoyed when he added stories of personal experience (they were brief, never rambled on went off topic and they were funny) Hes also very good at breaking down all of the science, biochemical structures etc to ca
Very good professor. I thought I was going to fail the course when I first heard the material but on the first midterm I got a 70%. You have to study for this course, but once you do you will do better then you expected.
If every prof was a Tarry, I'd go to school for the rest of my life. Makes learning fun, has a story for every addiction. Awesome does not do justice.
Really enjoyable Prof to listen to, very relatable and made some tough material interesting. Mixed feelings on how short the classes were consistently and the exams didn't always feel representative of the depth of material we were actually presented in class. Felt like he told us quite a few things were important when they were never tested on.
Tarry is the man. Hands down, he is the best professor I've ever had. His classes are very enjoyable, he's easy to talk to, and his exams are on par with what he teaches in his lectures.
Tarry is an excellente prof. He makes his class very clear and always has a funny anecdote to tell and make the class fun. His exams are very straight forward and definitely there is nothing to worry about. Totally recomend this class to everyone.
Why you should take a class with him?1. He's funny 2. He knows his stuff 3. super interesting 4, his short answers =point form. 5. Know his slides you'll ace the course. By far one of the best professors at Carleton U.
Amazing prof! Very funny and keeps the class interesting! I have absolutely no science background but he has a way of making everything very simple and easy to understand. Definitely recommend!
Best class ever! I was looking forward to taking this class and Tarry did not disappoint. He is engaging, very clear and hilarious. Missing lectures won't be an issue because you will want to go to class. The exams contain no surprises if you attend class.
One of the most interesting classes. He makes it fun with his stories and interesting. The exams had no surprises if you attended class. Great Prof. Attendance is not mandatory but if you don't go then you possible miss out on the chance of getting the hints of what might be on the exams. I loved it.
This is the first time any prof has made the material so interesting that it made me go to class every week. Awesome prof!! RECOMMEND x 38209380
Class was kept exceptionally interesting and engaging. It should be an easy A if you apply yourself to learning the material.
Great prof who keeps things interesting with practical examples that are easy to apply to. Very helpful.
Great teacher, very fair, and funny. Also pretty easy on the eyes.
Really nice guy with a lot of cool stories. Made classes really fun and interesting to attend. Knows a lot on the topic and uses good analogies. Would definitely take another class with him.
GREAT PROF! he is extremely clear with the material he teaches and exams are very fair. He is also pretty young so hes easy to relate to with his students. His stories are also hilarious! I would actually LOOK FORWARD to coming to class (in the summer too!) and that never happens!
This prof is amazing! He took complicated biology concepts and made it easy for us to understand! He keeps his word when he says something is on the exam and gives hints for those who attend class. His stories are hilarious and they help when you review for the exam.He understands what students go through! His classes were always interesting!
One of the best prof's I've had. He is very clear, and explains difficult biological concepts very clearly. He takes the time to answer all questions and makes sure we all understood. He was incredible helpful with his e-mails. I would take any course with him in a heart beat.
He is really easy to look at.
Awesome Teacher.
Extremely helpful and very dedicated to helping his students. Excellent teaching keeps you engaged and interested in lecture. Also very accommodating, reasonable, and friendly.
Best prof ever! Funny, smart, interesting, easy on eyes, good pace, tone, etc etc... =) would stay in school forever if he taught every class!
One of the best psychology professors at Carleton. He makes class interesting and he is very knowledgeable and very accommodating to students. Not to mention he is hilarious!
Very enthusiastic about the course material, and brings tons of funny stories to lectures. He's really good looking, and super well dressed! He goes into a lot of detail, and follows the textbook almost to a T. Great prof overall, and really willing to help if you need it.
Best professor ever, he makes it so interesting and really explains everything well. He is relatable and the class is interesting. BEST prof I've ever had. Would sign up for a class i didn't really want to take if he was teaching it because he makes everything easy to understand.
Amazing professor. Fantastic and very interesting class.
AMAZING PROFESSOR! the only reason i got a b+ as a final is because I choked on the exam. I went in with an A. he makes the material totally hilarious and relevant and I never missed a class because he makes it that enjoyable. He was always friendly and sociable as well.
Awesome prof, needs to teach more courses.
Amazing and hilarious professor. Will keep you engaged throughout the three hour classes. Best I've had in my four years of undergrad. If you know the class material, there should be no issues with getting an A+. Exams are very straight forward - all from the lecture material.
Best professor I've had in my 9 years of post-secondary. Highly Recommend!!!
Amazing class, amazing prof!!!
VERY interesting course! However, I found the first half extremely difficult and convoluted. I'm not a science student and found it hard.. but its very very interesting! You can tell the prof tries to word it as simply as he can. The second half of the course didn't have as much science which was good. If you're up to studying a lot - take it!!
Great prof! Classes are interesting and fun and Tarry is very personable, a fantastic lecturer.
Perfect Professor. Easy and Fun, exactly what you need to get A's. It's such a shame he only teaches 2 courses.
I loved this proff cause he was easy to understand and funny!
This guy is absolutely amazing! Hes so funny and explains everything so clearly. Uses lots of understandable examples to clarify complex concepts. Had an easy assignment worth 20%, a test worth 30% and the final. All very easy cuz he gives lots of clues of whats going to be on them by clearly saying 'you should know this' He's such so GREAT!
Not only is he a fantastic teacher and amazing lecturer, he's one of the most decent people I've met at carleton! If your having a problem and can't meet a deadline or need a deferral he's going to help you out!really wish he taught more classes cuz I'd take them all. He's also hilarious and super well dressed!
Not an easy class, but Tarry made it enjoyable.
Amazing prof! So funny, smart & makes class interesting! My friends who aren't even in the class came to some lectures with me, because he's just that awesome :) I wish he taught more classes because he's an amazing prof and guy. :)
Tarry is awesome. Funny, straight forward, and entertaining. His exams are easy if you know the material. I hope to take another course with him again in the future. I highly recommend him. :)
Best prof ever
Wow great prof! Lectures are interesting and he does an outstanding job explaining the content clearly, he will go over the complicated parts slowly and multiple times if the class isnt 100% sure. faire exams, easy essay.
Amazing prof. Best I've had in my 3 years at Carleton.
Super casual professor. He swears and makes jokes in class all the time. He's young, so he's easy to relate to. Super east assignments and textbook was barely used to get a good grade. Just go to class! it's fun! Plus he's super hot
This class is a joke. He just lectures 1.5 hours a week when it is supposed to be 3hrs. Plus this guy is really full of himself. Maybe this is a good class to take if you don't care if you learn anything.
Loved him! I have a horrible time with neurological and biology based classes but this prof makes the class enjoyable! Very funny, interesting prof who loves to teach! I would gladly take his class again!
This is not an easy course but tarry makes it interesting
Had him for two classes, just as everyone else has said, great prof. Knows his stuff, doesn't mess around, just gets through the material but not in a boring way. Funny guy, easy on the eyes, presents material thoroughly and clearly. Definitely recommend
Tarry is a great prof who keeps the material interesting. He tells lots of personal stories, which I find enjoyable. If you like a relaxed style prof, you would likely enjoy this class. Some confusion with the assignment as the three sets of instructions were not the same. Exams are relatively easy if you put the effort into studying!
Tarry Ahuja is a fantastic professor. He is funny and makes a difficult class easy to understand. You will get an A+ if you go to class and take good notes. He tells you what material will be covered on the exam in the lectures.
Tarry was amazing! I loved being in his classes. He was super funny and made great analogies that helped me remember harder material. Easily approachable and very personable. Tests were hard, but straightforward. Would definitely take a class with him again!
Young and funny lecturer who shares lots of funny (relevant) anecdotes. Very nice guy as well and super understanding. Very explicit about what's going to be on the exams and fair about work load (2 exams, one assignment). Doesn't expect you to memorize every little detail from the textbook (BUT READ IT; IT REALLY HELPS CLARIFY THE MATERIAL)
Tarry is a fantastic teacher. He injects humor into his lectures making the long lectures go by quickly. He has an excellent ability to convey the information very clearly, especially for students without a science background (very easy with science background). He relies on TAs to offer support, but they were very well chosen by him in my year.
Best prof I've had at Carleton in my 4 years of study. I looked forward to going to lectures every week. Would HIGHLY recommend. It's too bad he doesn't teach more classes.
Probably the best prof I've ever had during my 3 years here. Very enthusiastic, accommodating, helpful, and funny. Tests are very fair. He makes the lectures fun and understandable. I'd go out of my way to take another of his courses.
Tarry is a great prof. He's funny and engaging, yet relaxed. I love his "Tarry stories" and his teaching style. I took health psych with him last year so I was happy to take addictions with him too. I watched his lectures online and honestly did not even look at the textbook (but I would have if I had not watched it online!). Highly recommended.
Tarry is pretty clear in what he expects of students. If you do what is expected of you, you will get a pretty good grade.
LOVED HIM! One of my favourite classes I've taken. Material was interesting, he made it even more interesting with great stories and hilarious jokes. Tests are easy, never read the textbook and anytime he says "you should know this" means it will be a short answer on the test. Tests are fair- multiple choices for short answer questions.
Tarry is an amazing professor! He's young so he relates easily to students, and makes health psych much more interesting than it actually is. Don't take health psych with any other prof - he explains everything perfectly and has really straight forward exams. I'll definitely try to take some other classes with him, he's awesome!
Tarry is the BEST. HIGHLY recommend his courses. I took health psyc and addictions with him. He likes to end class a little early, and is full of "Tarry stories". Really makes class enjoyable and is very approachable and an easy marker.
Tarry explains tough neuroscience concepts using analogies, and it really helps. His expectations are clear, there won't be any surprise questions. Attending lectures makes a HUGE difference. If he says "you should know this" then it will definitely be on the exam. If you attend lectures and take good notes, you'll get a good grade.
Tarry is a great guy with an awesome curriculum. The material isn't difficult, but there will be things you need to know. Tests are straight forward, nothing to worry about. Guaranteed A just by going to class, quick note reviews before tests. He wants you to succeed and instructs like he's giving a motivational speech to people he cares about.
He has a lot of fun with the content but sometimes over-explains and goes in circles. He also does a lot of impressions of people of colour to make the white kids in class laugh, so brace yourself for that kind of stupidity. Still, I highly recommend the course. There's a lot to cover but he does it well.
Tarry is incredibly charismatic, interesting and helpful. His class is what made me switch my psychology minor into my major. He fully prepares you for exams by noting what will be tested during his lectures. He strives for the success of his students, and is easily approachable if you need any assistance.
I loved Tarry! His lectures are engaging, clear, and hilarious. He makes his exams very, very fair and gives you an idea of what to expect beforehand, and his assignments are straight forward and leave room for you to be creative. I'd take another class with him in a second. He's also not bad to look at either
Amazing prof! Lectures were engaging and funny. He would tell you exactly what is important to know for the exam so it made studying very easy. One of the short answer questions he made in one of the lectures and told us it would be on the exam. Friendly, approachable and funny. Overall an incredible prof - one of my favourites
Tarry is an awesome teacher. He doesn't just rely on his slides and repeats what's exactly in the textbook, he provides explanations and great examples! He also gives great hints in regards to what to expect on the midterm.
Just an awesome prof all around. He goes over alot of material and gives clues as to the final exam which makes it easier to study. Although it is still a tough course. He has a great control of the lecture. He makes queezy topics digestable. Can be absolutely gut-wrenchingly hilarious. Prof Ahuja and Prof Guy Lacroix equally two best profs
Really easy class if you show up to lectures, which are quite interesting. The prof can be very funny at times and explains things very well. Tests are fair, straight from lecture and also covered in textbook. Definitely helps if you have taken biology or neuroscience before because most of the stuff is review.
Tarry is amazing. My gran passed away and he was super supportive, he helped me with my deferral for the midterm and assignment. Despite not being able to watch the lessons on a week by week basis and not really keeping up with the course I still managed to get a C+ on the final which I am 100% cool with as I'd kind of given up hope. Thanks Tarry!
He is the reason I switched my major to psychology and I don't regret it one bit. Funniest, most engaging professor I have ever had.
I took this as a summer course with him and honestly even during during the summer, I was excited to attend class! His lectures are really interesting and he's super funny as well. It's really easy to do well if you just attend the class and take notes (he'll tell you whats important!)
Terry Ahuja is one of the best professors I've ever had. He makes the material relatable and very clear, going down into the basics to make sure that we understand the complicated criteria. He highlights the important facts and is very eloquent, smart, and comical.
Wow!! I took this in the summer (bleh) and was happily surprised when the course turned out the way it did. The book is actually sort of fun to read, the lectures are really informative and entertaining to watch, and he is pretty quick to answer questions. The assignment isn't what I'd call "fun", but quick to get done.
Awesome prof, took his addictions class this summer and would definitely recommend having him as a prof. Lecture slides are very clear and easy to follow and he does a great job reinforcing the class material. He also uses some of his own stories to make the class fun and more enjoyable. Would definitely take more of his classes
Currently in his Health Psychology class and loving it!
Tarry is a cool guy. He made Monday night three hours lectures bearable with his humour. Learned a lot, he does a good job of understanding university is hard and trying not to make the course insanely difficult. It's pretty easy to do well, just literally go to class and listen.
His psych course is very biology heavy at times, beware of having to fill out diagrams and remember biological knowledge, good class tho.
Tarry is one of the best professors i've ever had! He is so funny and keeps lectures engaging and makes it easy to connect with. He is passionate about Health Psychology which really helped in terms of learning. I personally didn't use the textbook but understood all material and got a good grade. Would 100% recommend & take more courses with him!
Great prof, creative ways of explaining things. Never boring. Take time for grading though. Exams are fair... wording may be tricky...
Very personable and passionate about what he studies. He was a great prof and I'd take another class with him. My only real comment is that he can be unintentionally insensitive sometimes (re: obesity, gender), I don't think he means it at all but it could make me uncomfortable sometimes.
Tarry is a great professor. The class is easy, still have to study, but you will learn a lot. He's really funny which makes things entertaining. I find it odd how he sexualizes all of his examples... not sure if he's trying to relate to students that way lol. He's really knowledgeable and when people ask stupid questions, he answers politely.
He's awesome. Genuinely cares about students and wants you to do well. Makes sitting in a lecture hall not as boring
Funny prof, makes lectures fun to listen to even if subject matter is boring. Solid choice of prof in the psych department!
Awesome prof, took his addictions class and got a solid mark even though I'm not much of a science student. His lectures are clear, interesting and he is really good at explaining concepts. Really seems to want his students to do well.
BEST PROF EVER. I've taken both health psych and addictions with him and I can tell you, he's very clear and articulate about the things he teaches. You can tell he's passionate about the subjects. Would definitely recommend him if you can take his class. Midterms and finals are super easy as long as you go over his lecture slides.
Hilarious prof! Really interesting material and the lectures are enjoyable. He wasn't the friendliest when I asked to meet him outside of class (which also was difficult to arrange since it took him days to answer my email). But overall an easy class if you study the lectures and take notes!
Lectures were a bit tedious at times yet made material involving neuroscience, biochemistry, psychology, addiction and pharmacology understandable. Too many personal anecdotes used at times. Rounded most grades up but not overall course grade. Essay was fairly easy however beware the final exam wound up having some cumulative content
highly highly recommend Terry. Funny, great teaching style, easy marker. Our 'term paper' was a 300 word assignment that honestly took 2 hours and i received an A on lol. Very intelligent and does not feel the need to overcomplicate material. Loved his health psych and addiction course!
He is my favourite prof at Carleton. Makes the material so relatable and easy to understand. I look forward to taking more classes with him!
Was a little to sciency for me, but still a really interesting class. There is a lot to memorize, and you can easily second guess yourself on the midterm and final. The assignment is a good grade booster. Would recommend this class, but be prepared to study a lot and learn about the science behind addiction not the social aspects to it.
Best prof I have ever had! Course was very difficult but he made it so much easier.. couldnt imagine a better prof to teach this course.
Dr Tarry was a fantastic professor. As someone who is in neuroscience and finds most psych classes to be a joke, he made it very interesting to listen to. Midterm was absolutely one of the easiest i've written and the assignment was a joke. I spent 1.5 hours on it and got 100%. Interesting guy and class is super simple and easy
Always looking good and professional, never gets off topic. lectures are straight forward. had one assignment, did it in 20 minutes (no word of a lie) and received a 90 on it! Great class + great prof!
Tarry is the best prof at Carleton! take this class if you can. Exams are super straight forward and easy, as long as you study the material. He gives different options for the short answer portion of the exam and the answers are basically given to you in the mc questions. Overall such a cool guy, hope to have him again in the future.
The class is a little science heavy, but very interesting and useful. Prof is hilarious and an absolute G.
Amazing lectures- I believe I've learned more in this class than any I've ever taken. That being said, he should not be teaching a Psychology course as he does not teach it like one. It is almost entirely hard science. I have no background in science and the exams were astoundingly hard, even though I felt I understood the material and studied. :(
Humorous, passionate and intelligent. You may want to read the textbook to get an understanding of the slides.
amazing
Great prof - does a really good job explaining things and is not boring or too serious
Tarry is hands down the best professor I have ever had. He knows how to interest his students, gets on a level with them and really makes the lectures engaging. The material is interesting, yet quite dry, but somehow the lectures were really fun. Tarry has a good sense of humour and want his students to be inspired.
Really nice (and funny) guy! The course content was really interesting. If youre not an exam person, theres a REALLY easy assignment worth 20% that you can easily get 100% on. Its too bad Im in 4th year because I would love to take more classes with Tarry.
Whether your taking Health Psych or Addictions, Dr. Ahuja is well spoken and hilarious. Make sure you pay attention when he says you should know this, as you will most likely see it again on the exams.
Such a great prof! I was scared to take the class at first because I heard it was more on the science side instead of psych side but he made the class fairly easy to understand. He took his time to explain things, he went over the more challenging material multiple times to make sure we understood. Would definitely recommend him as a prof.
Lectures recorded from previous term. Very clear criteria and straight forward questions. 1 assignment, 1 midterm and final. Questions were MC, SA and diagrams. He says to buy the textbook, don't! I just watched the lectures and studied the slides and got an A+. The course belongs in neuroscience, idk how it ended up in psych. Funny guy!
Such a laid back & millennial type of prof and I mean that in the best way possible! He's passionate in what he teaches and knows exactly what he's talking about. Sometimes online classes can get dull and I find myself fighting to stay awake but he has this energy that keeps you engaged in his lectures. I would definitely take his classes again!
He's a fantastic prof and funny guy. He makes the subject matter interesting and builds on and revisits concepts throughout the course which helps make them stick. His testing is straightforward and fair. Would definitely take it again!
Exams are super fair and the writing assignment is easy, you'll do good if you follow the instructions. I didnt read a word of the textbook and finished with an A, you dont need it just watch all the lectures. hes really funny and makes the lectures pretty enjoyable. would recommend taking his addictions class
Tarry is a truly great prof who wants you to do well in his course! Not only does he provide great examples, but he also gets what it is to be a student :). 10/10 would this class again! The midterm and assignment are very straight forward too,
Honestly best prof to take additions with. I signed up for his class not knowing its a lot of science and emailed him. He really teaches well mostly for a student that hates science. You can see he really trys to make it easy for the students
Tarry Ahuja care about addiction and pharmaceutical science, and is good at conveying information about pharmacokinetics and neuropsychology. He made a science-forward subject really approachable for people who aren't usually naturally gifted at science. Awesome guy, awesome class. I recommend.
One of my favorite profs at Carleton, I took this class because he mentioned he was teaching it in a previous course I took. Good class, interesting intro to drugs and addiction. If you're looking for an easy class that you will enjoy, take a class taught by him.
Tarry is amazing! His lectures so engaging and made the material interesting. 100% recommend
Tarry is hilarious and makes learning fun. He explains concepts really well and seems to have fun teaching. He makes clear what will be on the exams, and the assignment is super fun to do and let's you be creative.
His lectures were really interesting and entertaining! I was a bit disappointed that they were all older lectures from pre-covid that he just uploaded, but still enjoyed them. He is a nice guy and responds to emails quickly. The class is pretty interesting and he teaches it well.
Great prof! We were only graded on the midterm, one assignment, and the exam so I was scared about my grade in the class at first but all assessments were pretty easy. I did my assignment in a day and got a 98 on it. The short answer questions on the exams were taken straight from the lectures. Textbook was really only necessary for diagrams.
Tarry is a funny guy who makes his lectures interesting and engaging. His midterm and final exam are a breeze if you study and take good notes. The assignment can be easy if you understand what he wants. Overall great class and definitely a prof you should try to take
So many of my friends told me to take Tarrys Health Psych class and I am glad I did! Lectures are fun to watch (although he was a little lazy and used pre recorded videos from years ago), content was easy to understand, and assignments/midterms/exams were fair and quite easy. If you want a grade booster while also having fun, take this course!
He is an amazing professor to say the least. His lectures are to the point, easy to understand, and are actually fun to listen to (which makes all the difference when studying for tests!). Not your typical boring professor, he's actually hilarious and entertaining. Also he's very educated and knows what he's talking about! Thanks Tarry!
Wonderful instructor and course. Interesting content, amazing lectures and so many parallels to be drawn with real life which make it even more engaging. The tests were easy if you've read the text and watched lectures. Assignments were fun to do. All in all, a fantastic experience and the ratings speak for themselves.
Nice professor with engaging lectures. 1 midterm, final, and assignment. Final and midterm, mix of MC, short answer, and diagram questions. Most of the content can be found in his lectures, but some of it is found exclusively in the textbook. The assignment is very simple. can be done in one day and is about a health behaviour,
Tarry was great, he was always open to answering questions, and his explanations were clear and helpful. His midterm & final were based on lectures & what was said in class, there weren't any surprises. He makes the course very engaging, highly recommend.
Extremely knowledgeable professor who is very good at what he does! I felt much better about my experience of Carleton after taking his class
10/10
My FAVE professor this whole semester. I always look forward to watching his lectures. He makes learning fun and explains every concept we look at in depth. I have not picked up the textbook once and am getting 90s.
Best professor I have had by far. His lectures are engaging and I enjoyed the content. He keeps the facts of the matter real (i.e., health > someone's feelings) because he genuinely cares about health (biopsychosocial) and overall wellness. He also has a sense of humour and his examples always make me laugh. I 100% recommended.
Critique: Lectures need to be updated; (a lot has occurred since 2018. It's almost 2024.) To us mature students, he comes across as ageist during his lectures: not all students are younger than he is. Takes too long to answer in Disc. Forums. Kudos: Knowledgeable, consistent, responds quickly to emails, interesting material w good delivery, textbk.
I think one of my fave profs I've had at CU so far. He knows his craft, he loves his craft, and has zero need to read off his slides. He absolutely enjoys what he does and you can see that in the energy he brings to class. He is a prof who actually cares if you understand his material. Exam + midterm + one small assignment. Would recommend!
This is part 2 of my previous comment. I loved this class but just wanted to give a heads up - this class is more focused on drugs specifically (what typical effects look like, metabolism etc) - not so much about the actual person struggling with addiction and what they are going through mentally/spiritually. Was a great class nonetheless.
Super easy class. Fair grading scheme (one midterm, one assignment, one final). Exams are fine but make sure to study even if you're taking the class online. Very blunt, but also really funny. Would recommend.
super easy to do well if you just put effort into actually doing the lectures and taking notes. His lectures felt a little like they could drag on unnecessarily but his delivery was pretty awesome considering how uninterested in the subject matter I often was. He's also super nice and chill which helps!
Tarry's exams were a little long but I found that if you knew the material, they were decently fair. Super funny guy, lectures were online and pre-recorded but I was still really engaged. Assignment instructions were vague but everything else was awesome. 1A and 2 exams :)
Switched the final exam from online to in-person in the middle of the term.
Tarry's lectures are engaging and easy to follow. The content is interesting, and his humor makes the class enjoyable. Studying with unstuck ai and the textbook is key to doing well on the exams.
Great course! Highly recommend. Appreciate how prof highlights key areas to study for exams. As long as you put the time in to watch the lectures and take notes, you will do well. Course focuses on physiological, chemical and psychological aspects of addiction.
While this may just apply to my class, Prof. Tarry was very disorganized. While his lectures are great and engaging, there were countless times where no one (including TA) really knew what was going on in the course. Course isn't too hard but due to the lack of organization, it felt like there was not much control over the grade you end up getting
I liked Tarry as a prof, but when it came to exams, I really think they could have been done better (too long). The format for the midterm had 70 MC questions and ~15 short answer (when the prof said there'd only be 5). For the final, format was the same except only 60 multiple choice questions. Both times, I could not finish within the 2 hours.
Great class, I definitely recommend taking it if you have the chance, beware that it is mainly focused on the effects/components of drugs and not addiction itself. Midterm and final are LONG, too long honestly. Listen closely, and do the readings
Class was interesting and the prof was engaging. The lecture vids are old so they don't always match up with the slides but the content is basically the same. You're only graded by 3 things (2 exams and 1 assignment). The assignment is easy but the exams can be difficult. On the final, I ran out of time and it dropped my grade by around 15%.
Very easy to listen to, he adds in real world examples to help break down complicated info. I've nothing past gr. 10 science knowledge and was able to learn the biology and chemistry in this class. Lots of notes, this course was fully online async, so it was great to listen to like a podcast. Notes allowed in exam, one assignment + midterm + exam.
I would not recommend this class not that the prof is bad BUT all the lecture videos are pre recorded from at least 3 years ago. If your okay with that great but spending 5000+ on a classes and that's what you get isn't great. Not his fault, but class constantly has COMAS issues, made proctored exams which they all are was stressful
