Well if you think merely showing up for GNEDS is going to get you a 100% in attendance, don't touch this professor as I showed up to every class and got an 70% for attendance. I understand you want me to participate but when you are assigned novels as readings good luck staying on top of it with other courses. Tibet isn't very interesting frankly..
somewhat hard to rate. really is a nice guy and is obviously passionate about the subject. I did learn some interesting things if I payed attention. would agree that he can be confusing, but if u show up, and put in decent effort with your assignments its super easy. He is a bit unclear with what he wants but super easy grader either way.
Honestly if you need an easier class to bump up your gpa do this one. Minimal effort to get a good grade. And tashi is so nice, just gets off topic lol.
Good course. Great prof, passionate about his subject and teaching. Highly recommended!
Mostly discussed reading that were done for the class. Not many class activities or assignments. Easy marker, giving you mark for the time and effort you put in, instead of the quality. Good GPA booster, would recommend. Good Luck :)
Tashi is a good professor. I found his reflective thinking and writing "practices" and "toolkits" very helpful. He grades generously for effort, I agree.
Tashi is such a great prof and really cares about how his students do!! I wasn't the most present student in the class but he always answered my emails and helped me catch up, a very passionate prof. The only thing I'd say is there are lots of assignments and group activities within the class, it felt a little bit like a highschool class.
Although Tashi often rambles in his class, if you participate, attend class and put effort into your assignments you will do really well. He is very fair with marking and will accommodate your needs whenever it is necessary. Only thing is if you do not like group work I would not take this class, but otherwise I would suggest him as a prof.
There is quite a bit of effort and readings you need to put in, but if you come and participate it is totally manageable. He is a really easy marker and cares about what he is doing. He does start to ramble sometimes, but if you listen you can learn something. I would highly recommend taking him and was surprised the reviews weren't better.
If you are willing to put in the work and don't mind working in groups, I would recommend his class. Tashi is a great professor. He is passionate, helpful, and his lectures are very interesting. I feel like I learned a lot in his class.
I took his course last fall. He went above and beyond my expectations for the course. Some of the readings were a bit dated, but the course was methodically designed to develop critical reading and thinking skills. I walked away from his class with a strong appreciation for issues of global politics and social inequality. Would recommend.
I did this in Spring and I would show up for attendance and to hand things in and then I would immediately leave. Take it for an easy A
Nice guy
Has unclear requirements and gives contradictory feedback. Posts the class readings in three different places, which makes it very easy to miss some. Takes his GNED classes very seriously.
Pointless lectures, unrelated to assignments. Ridiculous amount of reading and papers. Be prepared to write a paper for 1%.
Easy A if you show up now and again. Pretty great prof compared to most other GNED profs
For a foundation level GNED, Tashi expects WAY too much. He assigns at least one paper every week and his grading criteria is unclear. His lectures are useless, considering there isn't a final. He's passionate about what he teaches, but he asks way too much of students, let alone first year GNED students.
Tashi is a great prof, he's easy going and understanding if you happen to miss some lectures. Just make sure you communicate with him. He's an easy marker if you put in a decent amount of effort. The texts were a bit boring..
Tashi is amazing. He is so passionate about all the topics discussed in class and it is very engaging. The rubric is sometimes hard to follow, and you read average 50 pages a day of text, but if you show up and do the work with effort, it's an easy pass. Would recommend taking this class over any 1202 class!
Just don't. So much work for a foundational gned! Took time away from other class I actually cared about. The point of being a teacher is to take complex concepts and make them simple and easy to understand but somehow he took even simple concepts and made them difficult to follow. Guess there's a reason why he is a Gned teacher....
he's a pretty chill guy that's all. But he believes anything anyone says so take advantage of that when you can.
Easy marker. Lectures could get a little boring, but definitely recommend taking his class
Tashi is a very laid back and compensating professor. Attendance is mandatory but there are times where Tashi schedules no classes and understands that a university student has a lot going on and is willing to sit down and discuss this. Tashi enjoys class participation and enforces a lot of self-reflection in papers.
If you do your work as told and follow all the guidelines in assigned work, you are good to go! He can get VERY off track in class and leaves little time to finish the work we were intended to do as he rambles off, but you can do well if you put in the effort!
was a bit of a weird corse with a bit of work, the more organized you are the better you will do with the coarse, was a good breather of a class however and Tashi is a great guy
Tashi is very funny, and his lectures are always very interesting, but he does assign a lot of readings. Overall a pretty good professor, and an average marker.
Definitely had fun in this class! Easy grader and very understanding when it comes to missing a deadline. Tends to talk off topic but definitely an easy A! Take his class for a GPA booster!
He's a super easy marker, and mainly looks for effort being put into the assignments. However, I don't think I've ever had to read so much in my life. I would not suggest this class to be taken as a spring course because you will be reading tons which is required to pass, on top of all of the assignments. He was also a super boring lecturer.
Tashi is a nice guy but shouldn't be a prof. He wastes an incredible amount of class time describing a single then rewording it over and over. He then tries to scramble teaching actual material when class is about to end. You can tell he's passionate about lectures but they are VERY dry with little takeaway. Would avoid. Also not clear on marking.
Tashi is a very smart guy. He is interesting to listen to at first, but often repeats himself and drowns on for class. A lot of the class is group discussions. Some of the readings are interesting, but for the most part they are boring. Lots of work needed outside class for a foundation GNED.
He designs his courses so that you have to do a reading followed by an assignment almost evry week and facilitate a small group discussion. he says its to help you understand but IMO it just seemed like he was too lazy to teach it himself. Super unclear with marking and never respond to emails on time, dont bother asking for help unless its in class
You can tell tashi is very into the topics that he teaches. Just show up to class, be polite and do the homework. He was very understanding with me missing a due date. Overall this class is fairly easy so there is no reason not to receive an A.
Tashi is one of the best profs I had in my first semester. The class was really chill, he took marks for attendance but was understanding that there are assignments from core classses that need to be done and will let you work on it. There are only a few assignments and he is very generous with marking. He is such a sweetheart!! Easiest A I've got!
Fairly easy marker. His lectures kind of went all over the place and nobody was entirely sure what the point of some of them were... He had several guest lectures scheduled which were good. Easy class to bring up your GPA. Attendance is part of the final grade. No midterm or final exam, but final essays (2) and project.
This was a super easy class and Tashi made it a very friendly environment. He respects everyones opinions and always wants you to feel comfortable sharing. The assignments were interesting and easy, and there is no reason you should get any grade lower than an A if you are willing to show up! He was an awesome prof, and really cares about students.
Tashi is a really good prof. He cares about the topics, is open to opposing views and encourages critical thinking. I have really enjoyed his class and would like to take other ones with him. Fair market, good feedback and interesting topics.
This class is all writing and profs gives not much feedback. No clear grading scheme. Takes too long to mark papers & reply to emails. Cares about material & brings in guest speakers. Not a lot to learn so rumbles sometimes. Prof is really educated but lectures can be dull. Caring person who's life stories inspire you.
You have to attend classes, but you don't have to pay attention. He is all over the place when he lectures, good luck trying to follow. There are lots of readings, most of which are difficult to comprehend. Weekly assignments, but he is a very easy marker. Overall easy class, confusing at times.
Tashi's class was kinda boring, not gonna lie I fell asleep a few times and I barely showed up to class. As long as you do all the assignments, finish the modules and hand in the essays on time then you'll do decent. He grades stupid easy, but when he lectures he's kinda all over the place. SUPER SWEET PROF THO!!
This course was much more philosophical than I expected. I debated on dropping the class, but I'm glad I stuck with it. Tashi is extremely passionate about the topics he covers & challenges you to approach topics as a critical thinker. Taking notes was hard since he would go on tangents, but he was always available to clarify and help.
Those who left negative feedback must not have a cultural interest... Tashi is very very funny and a caring prof. He speaks about his cultural experiences and background which is very interesting to indulge in. Do yourself a favour and take any course with Tashi, you will not regret it. I genuinely look forward to this ONLINE class every Tues/Thurs
Tashi's class was one of my favorite classes to attend this semester. Tashi is very caring, sweet, and always shares stories to help you understand the ideas in the class. He has genuinely taught me so much about understanding different perspectives and philosophies. Take his class if you can!!!
Great teacher, passionate on what he teaches, uses his history (Tibet) to give personal examples towards the lecture, and he loves it when you challenge his views and thoughts when appropriate. People who rated him negatively probably never spoke up when he asked an open ended question and decided to hate online instead.
Arguably the best, compassionate prof. Although this class is presentation-heavy, the presentations are fairly easy as they were group projects.
He discusses the same idea for long periods of time. If you try to contribute or add ideas/thoughts to the discussion he doesnt acknowledge them. He also doesnt take the time out of class to answer questions. Its a lot of sit and listen.
Take this class for a GPA boost but don't put too much thought into it. Lectures are disorganized and don't really have a point, but they are interesting to tune into sometimes. The readings are heavy, but you can pretty much write any personal insight; you'll get an A from this class.
Very interesting teaching style, focusing a-lot on critical thinking and asking questions about why things are the way they are, would highly recommend this class and this prof.
Tashi is a super nice person and he talks about interesting topics if you listen to him. you can get distracted easily since it's only him talking during the class. He loves if you ask questions and be active during the class. He is also such an easy marker if you really write everything from your own perspective.
I'm surprised how well-received he is by many reviews; maybe this prof just wasn't for me. I like structure and clear instruction, especially for a GNED which is the least of my priorities, but he has a very abstract way of thinking. To him, being a good writer or speaker doesn't matter if you aren't putting enough "raw emotion" into it.
A wonderful human who is very understanding, but his lectures can be hard to understand. The articles and videos are interesting, but some of his lectures and assignments were unclear especially when it came to trying to what exactly he was looking for. A super nice guy with a lot of interesting things to say. An easy class if you're openminded
Heavy on participation, attendance, presentations and group work. He seems like an excellent and inspirational guy but I wanted a class with more structure. I might enjoy the class and I debated on staying on but I think it's too far from my comfort zone. I am a person with ADD and extremely introverted so this class was not for me.
Very reasonable
Tashi is a very compassionate and caring professor! Although, he can be repetitive and sometimes it doesn't really have a point, I still really enjoyed his class and energy. I would definitely take his classes again!
Tashi is by far one of my favourite profs. He cares so much and is super chill with the deadlines, just participate in class. You can tell he is really passionate and wants you to learn, no quizzes or tests just a few papers and public speaking presentations. This course takes you back to grade 10 social (globalization) but it is actually fun.
Tashi Tsering is the most caring, down to earth professor I've ever met. He is an easy marker on papers and his grading criteria is very clear. His lectures are also solid, overall just an outstanding guy!
this gened has insane assignments where we have to read over 20 pages often and write long responses that are worth next to nothing.
Tashi is a very good teacher. Attendance is mandatory as participation matters. It is pretty heavy in writing, but he managed to make the content interesting. Overall the class is pretty easy, lectures are interesting, and it is applicable to real life. One of my favourite profs so far and I would highly recommend taking the class
Lectures were very boring and seemed unimportant. No final exam so that was really good. Lots of reading each week but it's not too hard and you could make do by skimming the article. Easy class but boring.
Tashi is one of the easiest teachers there is. He speaks in such a manner that you can help but he enthralled. You will have to do both speeches and group work but the grading is very lenient.
Tashi is one of the best profs I have ever had. His course is pretty easy if you actually show up and do the readings. Its very clear that he cares about his students, and will help you get a good grade. The classes and lectures were really interesting, and I feel that this knowledge is applicable in the rest of my degree.
Such an interesting class and he is genuinely passionate about facilitating growth and change in his students and the world.
He is super nice but his lectures are SO boring. He talks way too much
Dr Tsering is a very inspirational professor and very transparent about what he expects from your work. His life background definitely shaped his teaching style and you can sense his passion for critical thinking and environmental issues as a person of Tibetan background. His class is a bit heavy on the course work but it's manageable if you try!
He's chill but wont give anyone above an A. A few presentations but it's mostly small assignments.
Probably the best GNED professor I have had, you can tell that he really cares about his students and the material he is teaching.
I signed up for the class because someone recommended it, but I regret it. The professor is nice, but if you're not into political ecology, it's not worth taking. There's only one quiz, and the lectures aren't tested. I found them boring, so I didn't pay much attention. Even though the professor was passionate, it didn't make me like the subject.
Dr. Tsering is a good person and knows his stuff. However, he needs to keep in mind we have other courses as well because the amount of work he gives is insane for this course. The marking is tough especially with presentations and midterm. Some students present days before others which means they get extra time. He needs organization to be fair.
Tashi is a really caring/motivational professor and will provide feedback for improving your grade. It is true that he won't give you an A+ on things. We had 6x 400 word papers, two lecture based essays(600 words), one midterm presentation and midterm essay, a quick mc quiz, and a role playing presentation. Hes considering taking out papers though!
One of the most interesting classes I've taken @mru. lots of religious, social, and political discourse but something that is very enlightening. Never seen a prof with this perspective on education and learning. Not so great if you're looking for an easy gned to breeze by with. If you're looking for something to challenge your growth, take it.
Dr. Tashi Tsering is a caring professor who cares deeply about the content that he teaches. His passion shows in his lectures, and he is captivating to listen to. Every assignment we did in this course served a clear and meaningful purpose to our learning - I never felt that my time was wasted. I would absolutely take a class with Tashi again.
Tashi was my favorite professor this semester. He is very passionate, and engaging in his lectures. At times the course load may seem heavy, but Tashi is a fair grader, gives very good feedback, and gives opportunities for bonus points.
Tashi is the most inspiring prof I've had, making a boring class engaging. He is absolutely captivating passionate, and moving when he talks. He's a fair grader, and while the course has a very heavy workload, the material is well-structured and helpful to course concepts. Note that he does require multiple solo presentations (5-6 minutes each).
Really inspiring prof. If you get the chance to be taught by him, TAKE IT. He is an easy marker. Lots of HW, readings, and presenting though. He is very kind to students and respects us all. He brings such a unique perspective on life which is quite refreshing, and teaches a lot about his culture which is also awesome!
Dr. Tsering is an amazing professor. Although the course work can be tedious, you should expect some work for GNED classes. There are some presentations and essays, however, he is a very fair and easy marker. As long as you do your work & pay attention, you know how amazing his lectures are! He is very organized as well. Very interesting lectures!
Dr. Tsering is really interesting as a person and a really great prof. He's very smart and knows what he's teaching really well. His feedback and teaching is phenomenal, his assignments and readings are really useful to the course and in general.
Tashi has had an amazing background in teaching and is very versed in the lecture content. He incorporated his own experiences into the lectures and you can tell he really wants his students to look at the outside world and succeed in life. Course load wasn't too heavy and attendance was not mandatory (half of the class never showed up)
Tashi is very kind and he is thoughtful with his lectures. One of the most inspirational profs that makes you think critically about the real world. His marking is very fair and he is very accommodating for missed tests.
overall he was an amazing prof would take a class of his again.
A very qualified and experienced prof, classes were very intriguing and interesting to listen to. A big part of his class is being open-minded and critically thinking about the world. Decent amount of reading and assignments, but as long as you put the work in, you'll do well.
Very kind and inspiring prof. Reading groups, a presentation, some quizzes, a term paper, and a speech. Tons of readings but it's easy. His course is likely a bit more work than other profs for this course. Very easy marker though, you will get an A if you hand things in. His whole thing is to make you think and reflect on yourself and the world.
An incredible professor! He genuinely cares about his students and structures his lectures in a way that's relatable and engaging. He provides thoughtful feedback and grades fairly.
I've never had a gned with this much work before. There was two presentations and A LOT of group work. His grading was really strict too in that he never gave out 100s not just me but others too. He even said that we weren't allowed to give out 100s to our peers during group evaluation. Also barely any feedback given it's always just “nice work.”
The course content and teaching were good, but the grading was frustrating. Feedback was repetitive, and even after applying it, my grades stayed the same. I struggled to understand the grading criteria, which made it feel like no matter how much effort I put in, it wasn't enough.
Tashi is a gem of a prof at MRU. One of the few profs who gets you to use your brain and allows for open-ended discussion.
As a mature student with a previous career behind me, I would say Tashi is one of the most wonderful people I have had the pleasure of meeting. Thoughtful, inspirational and genuinely wants to see students succeed. Very accessible, provides great feedback and will make you feel seen and heard. I wish he would teach more than GNED
Tashi was a very open instructor and commutation was very easy and he responds very thoughtfully and quickly. The work was very easy aswell, it all depended on yourself and if you wanted to do the work. It mostly contained reading provided material for the following class.
Excellent professor, he is genuine and easy going and he makes me want to attend his class. The lectures can be a little dry but it doesn't go unnoticed when he uses real life experience to connect to the content. He also understood that people were getting bored and switched to more of a group discussion dynamic. Please take this class!
He definitely knows a lot about the topic he teaches, and you have to do two in-class presentations. If you're introverted, honestly, this might not be the best fit. But he is a good teacher who genuinely cares about students' learning. He pushes us to think critically, gives solid feedback, and his storytelling is actually really enjoyable.
Tashi is very kind, and passionate about what he teaches, he has two in class presentations, one for the midterm and one at the very end. Lectures can be boring, but some were interesting, he pushes his students to question everything and not to be sheep. He speaks clear and articles everything precisely! I would definitely recommend this class !
He is nice. A slow marker. Heavy reading before class. Lots of class discussion. Two presentation are great boosters.
GEND 1303 is fair, discussion-based, and very manageable. Most grades come from prep sheets, reflections, quizzes, and a presentation. If you do the readings, participate, and apply feedback, getting an A is very achievable. The professor gives clear expectations and thoughtful feedback.
Tashi is an amazing prof who enjoys what he teaches. his teaching style is very easy to follow, and lectures are enjoyable and informative. he has a clear rubric, is open to questions, and encourages students and their critical thinking. while there are many readings, they are useful in assignments. easy A if you put in the work
