After a month into the class and she has yet to post a syllabus!!
Straight lecture but its the textbook word for word. She doesnt teach biology, she just reads biology. The only thing you will remember or be able to understand is that her catch phrase is you know what im saying, but no one knows what shes saying. Shes a great person and will help you with whatever, but dont take her for biology.
Will not respond to emails. Reads word for word off PowerPoints for lectures. Lecture slides are about 700 slides per exam and tests consists of 25 questions. A LOT of online homework. All around just a bad class, I would sooner learn microbiology from an upside down broom with a bucket for a head.
She's SO unorganized and genuinely has no idea what's going on most of the time, often late to class and miscommunicates constantly. We didn't even get a syllabus for MONTHS. That being said, the class is honestly super easy. She's very nice and accommodating, seems like a great person. Just not a great teacher. I never went to class, did just fine
Beyond unorganized, doesnt use moodle, doesnt have a syllabus, didnt know what an SI session was, reads straight off PowerPoint but doesnt make sense, 25 point exams on 5 chapters and the study guides have nothing to do with whats on the exam. Doesnt answer emails
I had to take this class for my major. This is my first rating, which says a lot. Basically, I taught myself the entire course. Her tests were all over the place and she has the inability to explain basic concepts. She has an unorganized personality and it shows. She has always been kind, but needs work as a professor leading a huge class.
She reads from the PowerPoints in class. Every test is on moodle.
Reads straight off the slides and usually does not finish going through the power points. We didn't have a syllabus for at least a month. 25 question tests on several chapters and study guides have nothing to do with the questions. Does not respond to emails you have to text/call her. Willing to give extensions if you ask.
This class is extremely disorganized. We did not get a syllabus until the second month of class. In lectures, she just read verbatim from the PowerPoint and did not teach a single thing. I taught myself microbiology the entire semester.
She doesn't teach, just read from the PowerPoint. The syllabus wasn't posted until mid semester which makes everything very confusing. The homework and study guide have nothing to do with the exams. The exams often ask questions on topics that were never covered in class.
Unorganized and does not know how to work moodle, most people cheat their way through this class but I decided to drop because I did not know where I stood in the class she could not tell me my midterm grade 2 weeks after they were due. She is very understanding and her lectures are funny but this class is a lot of studying everything.
She seems clueless about the class. Doesn't know how to use MOODLE, doesn't answer email, no syllabus until the third month of class, read off directly from the textbook PowerPoint without teaching a single thing throughout the semester. This class is extremely unorganized.
Reads straight off PowerPoints. Exam questions aren't about the chapters that are supposed to be on the exam. Doesn't know how to work Moodle. I only finished with an A bc all the exams were on Moodle. Told us during finals week to show up to the regular classroom and text her if another class is in there. How you don't know where our final is???
I have never taken a more disorganized class in my life. Didn't get a syllabus until mid-semester. She is a nice person, and very accommodating, but she is a horrible teacher. All she does is read directly off the powerpoint, and often told us conflicting info regarding what chapters would be on the quizzes/tests.
Read straight from Powerpoint, never posted a syllabus, and never posted the lecture videos she always said she would. Easy to get in contact with and lets you make up any test and quiz you missed.
She is a nice person but is definitely one of the most unprepared teacher I have taken. In class, she could not answer any questions and just read directly from the textbook PowerPoint. The study guide has nothing to do with the exam. The MOODLE page is a mess because she doesn't know how to use it and nothing is ever made clear. No syllabus.
Shes really sweet but she is not a good teacher, she never really has a clear plan and doesnt know whats going on until the last minute. She also never put up a syllabus for the class.
Awful teacher - she's a nice person, but she is terribly unorganized and last minute. No syllabus, tests you on 4 chapters at a time but theres only 25 questions on the test, reads straight off PowerPoints but test questions seem to be made up from her head. I had a terrible semester because of this class, would not recommend taking her, ever.
Incredibly unorganized class. She is all over the place in lectures and we were never given any clear directions on how or what to study. Doesn't answer email, doesn't know how to use MOODLE, no syllabus until the end of the semester and read directly from the PowerPoint. She is really nice, but doesn't teach the materials well at all.
How on Earth is she a professor. Just started the class and she hasn't even updated the class on Moodle. All of the dates are from last semester. What has she been doing for five weeks during break???
Most of the lectures so far are given through ZOOM with poor audio and terrible connection. She reads directly from PowerPoint and seems clueless about the materials. All the dates listed are wrong and everything about this class has been extremely confusing. I don't even know what we are learning in most of the classes.
This class has absolutely no organization. Communication is dismal and all the dates that she listed are incorrect. She reads directly from another professor PowerPoint so everything is super confusing and she could not explain any concepts. Often late to class and seems to have no care for the class.
For all the classes, it looks like she did not make any preparation. No syllabus, tons of miscommunications, read word by word from the PowerPoint, could not explain simple concepts from the textbook, didn't even know what chapters were on the exams and never responded to email. Very lazy and organized teacher.
It took her three months to post the syllabus and when she did post it, all the dates and information are incorrect. I have never seen such an unorganized teacher. I don't even know the purpose of the lectures if all she does is read verbatim from the PowerPoint and not teach anything. The study guide does not prepare you for the exam at all.
This class is beyond unorganized. She sets the days for the exams but isn't sure if those will be the dates for the exams. How can you not know the dates of your exams? I have been teaching myself the entire course because her lectures are next to pointless and all over the place.
I WOULD ADVISE YOU TO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR AT ALL COSTS. Assigns 4 exams that are 25 questions that are from studying at least 300-350 slides for the exam. Will have multiple off topic conversations with herself ranging from 5-15 minutes every single class period and can never finish a chapter; she will make you finish the rest on your own.
Very unorganized. Test are extremely hard only 25 questions. Makes you do a stupid project. Doesnt put in grades. She IS ALL OVER THE PLACE PLEASE DONT TAKE HER.
As someone who barely got through 1201 she was perfect for 1202. 4 exams and a quiz a little before each exam. Exams are taken on moodle in class which I love because I hate himes. Exams usually have 1-2 proctors. Quizzes are open note. You also get a bonus exam and quiz to replace your lowest of each of those things. Unorganized, but manageable!
The material in this class is not difficult, but she is so severely unorganized to where it is difficult to do well. You wont know ur actual grade in the class at any given time b/c she doesnt put grades in or doesnt do it correctly. All of these reviews are 100% true. Sweet person, horrible teacher. DONT TAKE!!!
Dr Luzan is great. She is very unorganized and frazzeled most of the time. Absoltely all over the place. But her goofy personality makes up for it. She teaches through powerpoints. But she tests on more than she can cover. So you will be teaching yourself entire chapters. STUDY STUDY STUDY. LOTS of MATERIAL to learn in a short time.
She is very unorganized and all over the place. In lectures, she would either read directly off the PowerPoint or talk to herself for several minutes. The exams are not hard but you have to read the textbook and teach yourself most of the course.
This is a quite a disorganized class with no clear direction. She doesn't seem to know what is going on most of the time which makes everything confusing from using MOODLE to when things are due. The assignments and study guides are completely irrelevant to the exams. The grades and syllabus were not posted until the very end of the semester.
Often we take bets before Luzan's class on how late she will arrive. She does not answer emails, has a completely disorganized moodle page, regularly messed up grade input into moodle, reads 1/3 of a power point in class and then has a conversation with herself about any subject. I have met 5 year olds with more professionalism than luzan.
VERY UNORGANIZED. PLEASE DO NOT TAKE HER!
Professor Luzan teaches next to nothing throughout the semester. In class, she would read off the PowerPoint directly or talks randomly to herself for several minutes. Doesn't response to email, never there during office hours and posted everything at the very last minutes with a lo of mistakes. The most unorganized class I've taken.
She is late to many classes. Read off the slide without explaining anything. She spends several minutes in lectures talking randomly to herself for no reason or trying to figure out how to set up the computer. The MOODLE page is completely disorganized with the wrong dates/chapters/grade input Didn't learn anything from this class.
She's not terrible but not great either. She's very kind and caring and can tell she wants to get to know her students better, but she's just all over the place and unorganized. Her tests are basically impossible because her study guides are terrible but you take them in class and not in himes wink wink.
This woman is so unorganized and was always running late. She made us do a project that had no relation to the course and homeworks or lecture us on stuff that wouldn't be on the test. She posts study guides but they're very unhelpful. One was legit copy/paste from a scientific journal. You'll be ok if you have her, but try to take someone else.
Micro was an easy class with a lot of work. She gives extra credit for just about everything and the test questions are very simple. If you know the basic definition of things you will get an A. That being said, you will have to learn the material yourself. She just reads the powerpoint.
Ms. Luzan is very organized; I took her for both Biol 1202 & Biol 2051. However she does have potential to be a better instructor with time. She also shows that she cares about her students & is willing to do whatever to make sure you leave with the best grade possible. Her test are super easy also if you study. And she gives a lot of extra credit
She is not very organized and doesn't really teach the class, but all of the material on her tests are found in the powerpoint or the online textbook. She's super lenient and very understanding if you have exams on the same day as her test. Honestly she is not near as bad as some of the ratings on here. Her class was a super easy A.
She is very disorganized and hard to reach. Attendance is mandatory, but her lectures aren't helpful. She often starts class late/shows up late. Her tests aren't very hard, but they are annoying due to her broken English and incorrect grammar. Many times she will give hints, and she will always give study guides for what's on it.
Don't listen to all the 1.0 ratings on here, they're being dramatic. She is pretty disorganized (aren't we all) and her lectures are hard to follow, but she makes it easy to succeed and her tests are easy. This class is an easy A or B.
Tends to be insanely disorganized, however, if you pay attention in class and study, it's an easy A or B. She's lecture heavy but gives a study guide for every exam, including the final. She has a bonus quiz and exam, TAKE BOTH, no matter what your grade is (they're open note :))
While the 1.0 reviews are from rightfully exasperated students, this class isn't impossible. Her exams are easier than the other professors' (she curves, too), she's accessible outside class, and she DOES care about her students. Dr. Luzan was honestly a breath of fresh air compared to my BIOL 1201 professor. If you don't like Himes hall, take her.
super easy class. she gives a lot of assignments and eventually gives a lot of bonus. her test are very ;) easy;) to do. bad thing is that she is very disorganized and can not spell at all. her moodle is a mess and she updated the syllabus almost every week. she is super accessible and she is also a super nice and understanding person.
Super easy class but you don't really learn anything from her lectures. She just reads off the PowerPoint that she rarely finishes. Often late to class, talks randomly to herself for several minutes in class and is super unorganized. However, the exams ask very basic questions and are on MOODLE. By far the easiest teacher to take for micro.
This class is a joke and very unorganized. She has no idea what is going on half of the time and is often late between 15-20 minutes in our 50 minutes class. All she does in class is read from the slides directly and then confuses herself with the materials. Her exams are easy though as they are mainly simple definition questions and are online.
Sweet person, but mediocre professor. She does really care about her students, just extremely disorganized. She had chapters that were "self-taught", which was code for she did not prepare for the timing of each lecture. Overall, it is not a hard course and if you keep up with all of your assignments and study, you'll make out with at least a B-.
Dr. Luzan truly cares for her students. From personally calling every student in lecture to "check in" throughout the semester to allowing students to text with questions, I felt comfortable reaching out about any concerns. Lecture was sometimes hard to follow, but she was open to feedback on how to make it better. Follow her study guide for tests.
Her lectures are very chaotic and have no purpose. She is late to several classes and seem to be clueless on many things. The exams are very much on the easy side (online/multiple choices) if you can teach yourself the materials.
I had Luzan for BIOL 2051 and despite her chaotic organization and random, seemingly, pointless assignments, her class isn't that hard. If you follow her study guides and do well on her quizzes you'll do fine in her class. She is also very understanding and lenient. If you MUST have organization for your classes, don't take her.
She was an amazing professor. She really cares about her students. As long as you study and go to class, it is a guaranteed A.
As you might have read, yes Dr. Luzan is all over the place. BUT she is the sweetest person. She is accesible through text and calling. She does have like 5 or 6 chapters per test. Its a LOT of material in 30 questions. You HAVE to study daily. If you need orginization and you don't want to self teach, go with a different professor.
I am a senior and this is the second professor I have reviewed. Dr. Luzan is the most caring professor I have ever had. She is very accommodating and will do anything in her power to make sure you succeed in her class. She has always been accessible by text within a few hours max. I really wish she taught more higher level classes. Take her class!
Many ppl will give a bad rating due to her un-organization. Despite her being VERY unorganized she's a very sweet person. I am a nursing student who starts nursing school in January and this class had me on the edge ALL semester. She is VERY accessible out class. DO NOT wait until the end to meet with her. Do all assignments and u will pass.
Changed the syllabus the week of finals to her students' disadvantage and makes things harder than it needs to be. Took her three months to post extra credit for TWO past exams. very assessable outside of class, but doesn't do much. Literary don't trust the syllabus because she changes it weekly
Luzan is a nice lady, but the amount of assignments in this class in comparison to her organization is ridiculous. She is extremely unorganized and changes her lectures, study guides, and even syllabus daily. Just make sure you are aware of that and you should be okay.
Luzan is a good person outside of class, but she is a terrible lecturer and professor. Her lectures are hard to focus on, and her powerpoints aren't much help because their basically illegible. She's extremely unorganized to the point where she showed up 30 minutes late to the final because she forgot about it. She does give a lot of bonus, though.
I am a nursing student and needed this class. As long as you put in the work then you should be good. She likes to be reached by phone. Luzan is VERY CARING and will sit on the phone for HOURS explaining anything you are confused on. I just wished she was better organized. DONT WAIT UNTIL LAST MINUTE TO ASK FOR HELP!!
She wasa breath of fresh air compared to other biology professors. If you're looking for an easier Biol 1202 class, take her. She's unorganized but I would take her over Gregg or Pomarico any day since I don't necessarily need the material in 1202
Whatever you see for the 1.0 or 2.0 rating about unorganized, it's accurate. I said participation doesn't matter cuz in the end you can just say you attend & she never checks. Get ready to read cuz powerpoint doesn't help (it does tell you which sections to focus on tho). If you're gonna take her, get ready to rely on study group or self-study.
She is very unorganized and lazy. Takes forever to post grades, changes the syllabus/MOODLE page on a daily basis, is late to many classes (even on exam days) and reads directly from slides that she rarely finishes so you end up having to learn everything by yourself.
I have never taken such an unorganized class. She changes the syllabus, PowerPoints, assignments weekly to the point where it is very difficult to keep up with the materials. Lectures are mostly unhelpful since since she just read the slides without giving any explanation. The exams are not super hard but you have to learn the materials yourself.
Lectures were all over the place and unhelpful and dense. Material comes from book, she puts no effort into making it understandable for students. She is super accessible outside of class and very kind, but this does make up for how poorly she teaches. Class is not extremely difficult, but she makes it worse.
Very low quality teaching. She is rarely on time for classes, has a super disorganized personality and changes things constantly. For most of the lectures, she would confuse herself with the materials on the slides and have off topic conversation with herself. Exams are on MOODLE and not too hard but I learn next to nothing from her class.
Dr. Luzan may be highly disorganized, but you learn a lot when she starts teaching! She makes everything we need to know very clear. Her exams are the most straightforward. HIGHLY recommend Dr. Luzan if you want to do well in Microbiology.
By far the easiest teacher to take for microbiology. The teaching is terrible (she just read PowerPoint) but she gives a massive amount of bonus points throughout the semester. Exams are MOODLE-based and very simple.
Incredibly easy class. She gives bonus points that is almost equivalent to an entire exam. She also covers a lot less materials than the other professor so you don't have to study much. Also a very nice teacher.
Shes very unorganized. A lot of quizzes, but they are not hard. One big project that she expects you to work on throughout the semester, but she never gave clear instructions on how to do it. If you email or text her, she wont respond unless you keep reminding her. You have to put effort in if you want to pass.
Dr. Luzan is unorganized, but she makes the class very easy. Her exams are straight forward and she gives extra credit and has easy assignments to boost your grade. If it wasn't for her, you wouldn't pass the class because the lab is extremely hard and 50% of your grade
The best teacher to take for 2051. Very easy class. Gives a ton of extra credits and the exams are very simple.
She is a very sweet and helpful professor. She is a little disorganized and has a lot of spelling mistakes on her exams/lectures. She will give you as much help as you and will do everything besides take the test for you to help you pass her class. If you have any questions text her and she will gladly help you.
Professor Luzan is a nice professor. But, not the best. If I put in more effort for any class, I can get a better grade. But, in this class the material was very scattered, grades were unclear, and what was on the exam was broad and heavy. She does offer extra credit and was willing to work with me a ton though. Be ready to STUDY. Lab is awful.
Shes a little out there but overall very supportive and sweet. one exam gets dropped and she gives you a ton of supplemental grades to help your overall score. will ask you to literally call her cellphone if you have an issue but will help out with basically anything. attendance is "mandatory" but its completed by signing your name on a google form
Honestly, I didn't learn anything from her class. She is very nice and gives an incredible amount of bonus points but doesn't teach anything. The class is very unorganized and you don't really know how everything is graded until the very end of the semester. In most classes, she doesn't seem to have an idea of what is going on.
Best teacher ever. Very easy class. All MOODLE based exams and a lot of bonus points.
Very nice and helpful. Biggest complaint is the amount of information needed to pass tests- very in depth. Have to know it back and forth. Lab is through Dr. Brininstool. One paper (pretty easy if u try). Moodle and class is disorganized but u will figure it out over time. Mastering hw. Offers bonus after exams (2pts) which helps bc exams are30 pts
By far the best teacher for 2051. Super easy class and she gives a lot of bonus points.
Very nice and helpful. Tests are MOODLE-based and doable. Gives a massive amount of bonus points. Definitely one of the better teacher for micro.
She is a little unorganized but she is probably the easiest teacher to take for micro. Very nice and gives an amazing amount of bonus points throughout the semester. The materials are not difficult as long as you put in some effort to study. Exams are online/MOODLE.
If you have to take microbiology, try to take it with Dr. Luzan. She is an awesome teacher who is very kind and makes the class interesting. The exams are straightforward and the bonus points help a lot.
Professor Luzan is unorganized and does not always follow the syllabus. It can be difficult for people who need structure, but overall the class is not bad. Lab is the harder part of it.
The tests were easy, the lab part was the worst of it.
This class is horrible. The exams are worded so terribly (not always from slides), and she is so unorganized. Doesn't curve tests and the lab midterm and final are terrible too. Be ready to study like 2 weeks in advance if you want a good grade.
she was very unorganized all semester, changed the syllabus constantly, even a week before the final. her lectures were bad, but the tests were not horrible (could have been worse). lab is TERRIBLE, but depends on your TA. very few extra credit points, but she is very accessible if you need help or an extension or something.
very unorganized and moodle pages are from years ago, but take her over the other micro profs. all exams are online. worst part of this class is lab. does not give that much extra credit but is very accessible. don't bother showing up to class bc she just reads from powerpoints that don't make any sense. get ready to teach it all to yourself
You can tell Dr. Luzan knows her stuff, she's just not really good at teaching it. She pretty much just reads off of the slides and then you need to know details for the tests. That being said, she is one of the nicest professors I've ever had. Definitely reach out if you're struggling because she'll always try to help you.
Class has lecture and lab portion. No need to go to lecture as Luzan reads off powerpoints. Lecture exams are straightforward, but prepare a few days in advance as there is so much info. Lab grade is primarily midterm and final, which are insanely difficult. Be prepared to study for at least a week in advance for those. Not much extra credit.
As other reviews say, she is unorganized, just reads from the slides, and doesn't know how to teach. Tests are hard and specific- if you don't know the textbook front to back, you will struggle. She no longer gives a lot of extra credit, so don't read other reviews and go in expecting that. The lab is rough, your grade depends on your TA.
Used textbook slideshows and read them verbatim. Study guides would be messy and say "read every slide" when theres 50-100 slides for each chapter. Tests were only 30 questions and specific so SGs were no help. Also had the gradebook weighed incorrectly up until the day before final grades were due. Overall, ineffective and unorganized professor.
Luzan is very unorganized, but you get used to it. Exams were tough, but finding an old exam or quizlet is extremely helpful. She may not be the best prof, but she truly cares about her students and wants to connect with them. Attendance is self recorded on a google doc, but it isn't necessary to attend. Do the extra credit because it adds up.
Extremely unorganized and hard to reach. Class is a mess from start to finish and lab completely depends on your TA. Don't bother going to class, start memorizing the PowerPoints as soon as you can. She reads off the slides in class. Tests are very detailed. Doesn't give that much extra credit, but grades fluctuate randomly without you knowing why.
Nice lady but unfortunately not the best teacher. Her class was the most unorganized that I have ever been a part of and it was for this reason that hardly anyone ever attended lectures. Hard class and she although a decent person, is unable to make it any easier.
Dr. Luzan is a fun, sweet person, and really wants to know her students, even in huge classes (she gives her phone number out). But, she's super unorganized, and her class is mostly just her reading off slides, and it's hard to keep track of assignments. If I'd met her anywhere besides a classroom, I'd only have good things to say.
Extremely unorganized lecture and only reads from slides. Lab is completely dependent on your own TA which sucks. Too complicated of a class for a 2000 level. No point in going to class, for tests just teach yourself the slides. Gives a little bit of extra credit. Both options for teachers are bad.
the most disorganized class i have ever taken. final got moved twice. she is really sassy when communicating on text and not clear on what is expected. get ready to have the most frustrating semester of your college career. the "easier" option but at the cost of your sanity.
bad teacher. so disorganized, legit changed our final exam 2 times, and now its on PAPER IN PERSON! she let us know it was changed at 9pm at night and then said people had to come in at 7:30 am the next day to take it. crazy, be careful.
do not take her. She is the most disorganized professor ever. Her lectures are very heavy and do not make sense. she changed the syllabus four times. She is not professional at all. Moved our exam to online, then at 11 pm moved it back in person at 7:30 in the morning.
DO NOT TAKE.
The final exam was cancelled for in-person and changed to online at home. fast forward to 11pm. she says we need to take the exam tomorrow at 7:30am in person.
Horrendous. If I could do it again, I would take Brininstool. I know she is hard, but at least she is competent. The TAs and professors do not want anyone to succeed in this class. This class was all over the place and hard for absolutely no reason. Most of the questions are not taken from the material taught in class. Do not waste time studying.
Taking this prof. is honestly taking the lesser of two evils. She is caring and very accessible outside of class. However, she has limited (if any) classroom management, her lectures consist of reading straight from the slides, and the exams didn't contain most of the info I studied. And, the situation with our final was inconsiderate of our time.
She's nice and means well but she is very disorganized and difficult to understand. She requires a mandatory semester long group project but some of the guidelines are extremely vague. Her powerpoints are somehow extremely long but not nearly detailed enough for the material on the tests. She has nothing to do with the lab though.
Professor Luzan was not a good professor. She is very disorganized and changes her syllabus up until finals week. Her test questions are most likely AI-generated and not taken from her lectures at all. She changed the format of the final 3 times in 24 hours, stressing out all her students. She's a better option than Brininstool but not the best.
I already did a rating but I'd like to mention that I am missing my sister's graduation for nursing school because Luzan told me that it's "not a university excused absence", even though my teacher for another class was going to allow me to move my test. I will never forgive Luzan for this. How heartless do you have to be? Really not good. :(
Tests are hard and the lab is SO hard impossible.
She was very unorganized and her moodle page is all over the place. A lot of homework is always due the night of each exam. The exams are material heavy
Unorganized, questions on tests are unclear and misleading, lab is impossible because the study guides are made from someone who doesn't even make the test so it sets you up for failure. There was a question on the test that was wrong but she wouldn't give me credit for it because she would "have to go and change everyone else's grade". Do NOT take
She is very disorganized but she truly wants you to succeed she will help you in every way she can but you also have to put in the effort
Ppl saying she cares abt your grade=wrong. Exams curved 3.5 points to "compensate" for the hell she put us thru. She only GENEROUSLY curves her micro class w/out the lab. Final exam time changed 3 times in 24hr. spring 2024 1:30 class put THRU IT. Admin contacted. NOTHING DONE. Tests have so much info, ppl didn't bother to study. just cheated
Luzan is a very kind-hearted person and she's definitely entertaining. She makes this class a lot harder than it needs to be, though. There are a ton of extra assignments, including mandatory group study sessions and two mandatory phone calls with her. The tests have a ton of info to learn but she makes them as easy as she can.
Luzan was a great person but not so much as a professor. All tests were on Moodle. She changed up her syllabus multiple times in the semester. She is super disorganized which made the class even more stressful. Shes cares about her students, but her class was very stressful.
Professor Luzan is very unorganized . She switches up a lot of things on the syllabus and due dates to not match Moodle. She made the course very difficult. Her PowerPoints are also all over the place. I do not recommend.
Dr. Luzan, although a lovely person, was not the best professor I've ever had. You can tell she does care about her students, but her lectures were hectic and hard to follow. To succeed in her class, you must be ready to memorize every detail from her LONG lecture slides. She also changed the syllabus multiple times throughout the semester.
Luzan has absolutely no idea what she is doing in terms of class structure. If you are taking her, if she isn't fired soon, she is very, very messy and you can see it in the maze that is her moodle. She is a nice person, and also very funny.
I went into this class with an open mind and hoping to be taught but I was wrong. She is a very disorganized person. The only way to talk to her outside of class is through text, she says call and office hours but will do everything in her power to talk through text. Her lectures are bs and she doesn't teach well. She is passionate about the info
Lab Midterm created from another professor for which I dont understand because you are telling me exams that arent created by Luzan (but rather Brinstool) affects my grade in Luzans class overall. Both are made difficult and put on a time crunch. Moodle for Luzan was very disorganized and felt overwhelmed for each exam.
Do NOT take this class. The most unorganized professor I have ever had. She requires an abundance of extra unnecessary work and does not put in grades until the absolute last minute. She waited until the last day of the semester to inform my group our work was “incomplete” resulting in a bad grade.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. She is a nice person but her lectures are everywhere and hard to understand. She does not clearly explain what are on the test or what she wants out of you in the class. She assigns a lot of homework for things not even covered in class. On the last day of the semester she told my group that we had to re do an assignment
Dr. Luzan is very disorganized. Her exams didn't follow the lecture material that well so you'd have to actually read the textbook. Long homework assignments that weren't really relavent to class material. Honestly between Luzan and Brininstool I'd pick Luzan again. Also assigns a completely useless group project.
The tests are directly from the power points, yes you have to memorize basically everything but I have never had a biology class not like this. She is super funny, and attendance is self recorded. She gives you her number and is always free to text and get help. Group projects which are all 100s. The lab part is horrendous which is not her fault.
Dr. Luzan was probably one of the hardest professor I've ever had. Her class felt useless, her slides were useless and consisted of 100+ slides for every 5 chapters for each exam. Very unnecessary. The lab midterm and final were the hardest part. Lab exams consisted of a bunch of BS nobody understood. Every time I come out of lab I'm overwhelmed.
A kind professor that is very disorganized. Her Moodle is a complete mess, but the tests in Himes are simple if you study with the right material. She is very accessible outside of class, as she literally gave out her phone number and answers fairly quickly. Groupwork is easy but not weighted a lot. Sadly, the lab is weighted almost exactly same.
Although the class is a bit hard and heavy on studying, she is very understanding and helpful.
Dr. Luzan is a very kind and understanding person. She is willing to help students when she is asked for it. She is disorganized which can make the course difficult at moments since you don't really know what is going on. But once you learn how she operates in her class it is easy to keep up. Tests are directly from the slides.
Luzan is nice and easy to reach, but class is structured awfully. Moodle and calendar is disorganized. Does not provide relevant material for exams. 300-500 slides for 30 question exams. Attendance is self recorded. She is not in charge of the lab- but the lab midterm & final genuinely were some of the most difficult exams I've ever taken.
This class is awful, take Luzan. The lab is dependent on your TA (mine was horrible, Wendy Hansing). I also suggest having multiple sections of the class that you can enroll in during the first week. Go talk to your TA during the first week, and if they suck switch to a new section. I wish I would have done this, TA's make or break your grade.
Lab portion of this class saved me because the lecture portion was killing my grade (I had a good TA). Yes, the class is hard, but Luzan did not give great lectures (accent). Her tests were moved to Himes and are as hard, if not harder, than Brininstool's. I had to teach myself everything because her lectures were not a place to learn.
Dr. Luzan is a very compassionate professor who goes out of her way for her students. She is very accessible outside of the classroom by giving out her personal phone number to contact her. She really wants all of her students to succeed and do their best in her class. She gives extra credit after exams which can help your grade!
Dr. Luzan is a very caring professor and very accessible outside of class. The lab is a bit of a challenge which is not ran by her but she will do her best to give us tips on how to do well for lecture and lab. Her moodle and assignments are a bit disorganized but once you get a flow of things you'll be fine. I recommend her!!
Professor Luzan is here to help you pass. Communication is key, you don't even have to go to class, and always contact her if you need help or assistance on anything, she's here to help, use Pearson test questions and slides for exams, she drops 5 hws, and make sure you get a good group she is very lenient and help on that and all aspects of class.
Luzan was an okay professor. I didn't have much trouble being with her other than she's very unorganized, but just follow the syllabus. Her tests are difficult especially since some of the questions on there weren't on the powerpoints. Semester long group project thats annoying, but easy. Overall, I thought she was a fair upper level biology prof.
This class is harder than it needs to be. Take Luzan for lecture - she's nice but very disorganized. She reads off the ppt slides every class. There's 3 exams in Himes (30 Qs, 35 mins); final isn't cumulative (50 Qs, 2 hrs). Also, there's a group project throughout the semester. Lab has a midterm + final (both very difficult) + quizzes due weekly.
Class structure is mind numbingly awful. All that she needs to have are clear slide shows and some decent questions for the exams. Sadly, her best slides are littered with spelling mistakes, and her worst slides are unintelligible. Her group projects are frustrating and pointless. Exams are probably AI generated. I only did well cuz of lab.
Her class was such a headache. Exam questions were so ridiculously specific that you'd literally have to memorize all the information on ~250 slides per test if you wanted to do well. Beyond that, there's a ton of redundant group assignments that don't seem to strengthen your grip on the subject. Take this class in the summer if possible.
I HATED this class, worst class at LSU. All you can do is read the lecture notes and pray. If you like organization I am sorry. She is better than Brinstool because Brinstool wants you to fail, but you will have a rough semester in Micro. The lab is not as scary as everyone says, just study the lab manual.
Run. Drop this class, change your major, transfer schools if you have to. I started full of ambition, but left unrecognizable, a shell of my former self. By week 3, we stopped making eye contact. The professor grades like she's punishing us. Don't enroll—this isn't a warning, it's a plea. Save yourself. If you're not religious pick one, and pray.
Luzan is awesome! She gives us a few assignments throughout the semester to help boost your grade so youre not dependent on exam grades. She gives us pointers for what to look out for on exams and what to expect. She also provides her phone number to which she always responds and is lenient. She provides examples for all assignments as well!!
Dr. Luzan is a great person and very funny but not the best professor. Her entire course outline is very unorganized and the lectures really just feel like you're learning nothing. You have to study a lot for the tests. She will answer any questions you have though.
Dr. Luzan is a great professor tasked with a tricky course. 2051 is both dense and broad in scope, but I recommend it to ALL premeds. She can be slightly disorganized, but is very caring, passionate, and constantly accessible. With her help, 2051 proved the most valuable foundational course of my degree, the bridge between intro and advanced bio.
She is not as bad as everyone says on here (depends on class I can only speak for 1011) she is very unorganized but you can pass this class it is not difficult. It's abt 50% based on tests she cares ant her students and is very nice but very confusing. Tests are straight of the slides. Textbook helps but her tests don't go into too much detail.
She's so extremely unorganized which makes the class much harder than it needs to be. No point in going to lectures. Group projects are annoying but not hard easy way to bring up your grade.
I actually really liked this class. I thought the tests were relatively easy (they are all taken in himes). She does assign a couple of random assignments throughout the semester, but they aren't hard. Attendance isn't mandatory; you do attendance through a Google Doc, but going to class does help a lot. There is a lot of homework for this class.
Class isn't super difficult, material is fairly straightforward and attendance is via google sheet. Lectures aren't very beneficial, just reading off the slides. Her content is homework and group work heavy, so choose partners wisely and make sure to plan ahead for large homeworks. She has 5 exams and one final, one exam is a take home optional.
Luzan is caring and will sit on the phone with you if you're confused. Her class material can be hard to understand but her lectures are very helpful. There is a ton of homework, though, which I didn't find helpful at all. Group projects aren't difficult, though. Exams are short and pretty easy, and lowest one is replaced. She gives some extra pts.
Dr. Luzan was amazing! She does everything in her power to help you succeed in class and honestly if you fail it's because you didn't take advantage of everything she offers to help. I literally just read the power points over and over and made a 100 on every exam. She also gives you her number and you can reach out to her for better explanations.
MADE MY LIFE A LIVING HELL. HOW DO YOU LOSE EXAMS TAKEN IN HIMES. Seriously. I was constantly emailing her about lack of grades. Class isn't too hard, but since the lab (which has nothing to do with Luzan) is 45 percent of your grade and is imposible, its hard to do great. She is seriously the most disorganized person I've ever met.
she is the most disorganized professor i've ever witnessed. her moodle had 300 unnecessary posts, she has mandatory check ins where you have to text or call her, don't go to class there's really no point. i've heard countless examples of her loosing exams when they're literally taken on the computer. and the lab midterm and final are impossible
Luzan, as a person, is very sweet and cares a lot. However, as a teacher, she is heavily disorganized and the people passing this class are passing FOR A REASON. She will not be teaching this class next semester and the other teacher offered is the first letter of her last name. Microbiology at LSU sucks and all you can do now is pray.
As long as you do the textbook homework your exams shouldn't be too bad even if you dont attend the lectures. She always answers texts and gives clarification on everything. She's also flexible and theres plenty opportunities to get extra credit from other assignments! This class was not stressful to study for and I enjoyed it as well
her moodle page is like a where's waldo. be prepared for a completely unorganized teacher who will ghost all of your texts (yes, she prefers texting over emailing). extremely frustrating to get a hold of her and when she finally responds, it will usually be at ten pm. her exams are simple; 30 multiple choice questions. beware of all the online hw.
She is the most unorganized person ever. She lost half the classes exams that are in the testing center and I swear she just puts in random grades. She takes 4 weeks to grade a testing center multiple choice exam. The lab portion is worth 50% of your grade and easy until exam time and the midterm and final are very difficult & 30% of total grade.
Dr. Luzan's class was challenging and a bit confusing at times but fair. As long as you study in advance for her tests, you will pass. There is a group project that helps boost your grade which is nice. The only hard part of this class for me was the lab, which Dr. Luzan does not control. The lab brought my grade down a lot.
I can't believe this class was real. Luzan herself is already a confusing enough character, but mixed in with her awful teaching capabilities and you have a match made in hell. I have never seen someone flip-flop so much when it comes to due dates and time management. Worst Power Point slides I have ever seen - completely illegible at most points.
The worst class structure I have ever seen. She has an annoying group project that is tedious. Each assignment is not worth a lot, but builds up. Also stopped responding to me and has not changed grades since february for me. This class made me question my life the entire semester.
I seriously pray for everyone that needs to take this course and hope you make it out the other side with your sanity intact. The lecture is tolerable, its the lab. If you're unfortunate enough to get Wendy as your TA, good luck. No course has ever made me want to slam my head repeatedly into a brick wall until I forget my name. Godspeed.
The most disorganized professor I have ever had. She assigns so much random busy work assignments that do not aid in our education at all. She makes us call her to do check in calls, but does not even answer the call. It is finals week and she has yet to grade work that was due in February. Moodle page and gradebook are all sorts of messed up.
very sweet lady but EXTREMELY unorganized. rarely ever puts grades in which is frustrating. if you are able to take the class at another school and transfer the credits to lsu i would highly recommend doing so. homework took DAYS because of how long and tedious it was. she is willing to help u but the chaos makes it unnecessarily stressful.
DO NOT TAKE THIS WOMAN.
Worst professor at LSU by a long shot! Extremely disorganized and wants to communicate via text (yep... no emails) Everyone has to do a group project and it's quite literally the biggest waste of time ever! Everyone complains about the lab but I loved loved loved my TA and UTA... literally just study for the exams idk it's not that hard imp???
If you are type A this class might not be for you but she is very understanding and what's her students to succeed. If you just do the homework and study you will make an A. She gives plenty of point opportunities and contacting her is very easy. Homework is tedious but doable- I recommend taking her!
Dr. Luzan is very well educated in Microbiology & lectures are interesting. Relates her lectures to the real world. Very reachable outside of class & quick response times. She is always willing to help. There is quite an extensive amount of assignments/group projects. Reading the textbook helps SIGNIFICANTLY. Would recommend & would take again!
Was she nice? Yeah. Can she do anything besides read word for word off of the PowerPoints? F no.
The class itself isn't hard, she is. She is so disorganized and used the wrong answer key on two tests... and didn't realize until a month later. Just avoid her, take someone else. Also why are we doing group projects for microbiology??? Boo, very bad. Also wasn't at her own office hours once.
Dr. Luzan gets a lot of hate for being chaotic and having a confusing grading structure. She is also not the best lecturer. That being said, she is the opposite to Dr. Brininstool in every way. She actually wants you to pass and gives several bonus opportunities throughout the semester. If this class had no lab, I would've ended with a high A.
Dr Luzan is the real problem with this course. Outside of the lab the test material is very easy to understand. Luzan had our grading system messed up all semester so while I thought I was getting an A I got a grade lower due to this mistake and she refused to do anything about it. Good luck on the lab.
She is overall great. Her lectures are pretty entertaining; she will do a pop-up quiz every week, but it's just for attendance grade. She is very understanding and she holds zoom lectures that you can join if you can't make it to class. Exams are in Himes, but they are kinda mid and easy if you put the slides into quizlet and listen to the lectures
The lab exams are more difficult in this course, but overall was not impressed.
She is nice and her lectures are easy to understand. To pass this class, you really just need to read the book. The exams weigh heavily; In my opinion, the tests are easy enough to pass without having read the book, but I have some background in bio from high school. With this in mind, just stay on top of the course load and you'll do great.
Very lecture heavy. Tests are difficult and very very specific. Pop up attendance quizzes. She goes way too fast and has too much on the slides (word vomit). Homework is graded off of correctness. She talks her head off. I am not taking the sequence of this class because of her. I go to class and do everything needed, but still do not do good.
I took Tatiana for 1001, I think she's a nice person but as an instructor I don't recommend. Her lectures are very all over the place and tends to get off topic. I'm sure there are better bio professors to take so take them instead but if you take her just know she's not the greatest and that your learning and grades are entirely up to you.
I though my experience with this teacher was fun, she does get off topic a lot of times, and as the semester ends she does more zoom classes than in person classes, test are hard if you don't study the powerpoints or textbooks, first quiz is hard, second quiz is really easy, the third test is hard, and the final you just have to know the material.
She's an okay professor, but I would NOT recommend taking her for BIOL 1001. During her lectures, she either reads straight from the slide or she is on a tangent about something not related to the class. She set the homework grading system so that you cannot see what you got wrong/correct. You have to teach yourself the material.
I had financial issues that caused me to get a late start this semester, she specifically created a faster paced program for me so that I could catch up with the other kids by the end of the semester she probably spent 2-3 hours helping me alone, and for the comments saying she's a bad teacher… it's bio 1001 there's not a lot to it shes awesome
Worst lecturer ever. All she does is read off slides I could have done in my dorm. Gives “pop” quizzes that aren't really pop cause she emails the class when they're happening, plus there's no right or wrong answer. Just join the zoom for the password and leave. This class could have been in an email.
She just reads off the slides and gives out pop quizzes for attendance. I would've preferred to have just done this course at home, but it wasn't too bad, just felt inconvenient and a waste of time. She will definitely help you if you have any questions or need help, however. You can always leave her Zoom or in-person classes after the pop quizzes
in class, she's either reading off the slides or going off-topic, and she has a non-american accent. you have to buy the online textbook from pearson to do your homework. it's about $130. homework was long, but you usually have a couple of weeks to do it. at least one class a week was on zoom, and you can attend on zoom if you can't make it.
For the exams you have to teach yourself from the book. Her lectures never have a point. She goes off on random tangents. There's also a random pop quiz once a week.
She is very disorganized. Majority of the class was through zoom meetings when I signed up for in person class. She shows up to class late and loses her focus OFTEN in lectures. The course itself is content heavy, but pop quizzes are given once a week for participation grades (free 100's!).
