She seems to have difficulty explaining simple information. She needs to work on the way she presents the information in lecture.
Nice lady but really hard. She doesn't explain chemistry well and you never know what to expect on exams. I do not recommend her.
Tatiana is okay, but don't ever question any grade that she gives you! Even if it is clearly her mistake, she will make you feel like an idiot for even asking about it. Has "Alpha" female mentalily- cross and beware! Otherwise, she is helpful in lab; but I here she is a nightmare to have for lecture: choose Joe Fassler for Chem 60! He's awesome!
over all very hard class, but if you do all of the work she assigns including suggested problems at the end of the book you'll be fine. She doesn't answer your questions she would rather have you try to answer them in front of her. The chemistry department grades on a curve which boosts everyones grade at the end of the semester.
Chemistry is a hard subject and I have never had an amazing chemistry teacher but Tatiana tried to peak student’s interests which was nice… even if she didn’t explain the subject very clearly. She wants you to teach yourself and be a better person from it. Make sure you have time to read the whole book. That is how I got my A.
I would not recommend her at all. She teaches the material like her students should already know what they are doing. If you try to ask questions, she makes people feel stupid. Jack at the tutor center is the only way to get through the class. She should NOT be teaching.
Hot body, sexy clothes and terrible lectures. I will not recommend that you even try her. Bad presentations. Ask her a question and you will be a fool. Grading system is a little flexible but when it comes to teaching a hard course like chemistry, she shouldn't be. I only attended lectures to get attendance, but I was better off with the toturals.
I liked her as a person. Unfortunately she is not a gifted teacher. You never knew what to expect on the tests. I learned everything in the tutorial. All the other Chemistry instructors are much better-take them if you want to learn.
DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR!! Tried to ask her a question once and made me feel stupid. Seems frustrated all the time and fortunately I took math before taking this class because you have to know it and if you dont you'll make her mad. You need to know everything or she'll get mad. dont ask her questions. Dropped her course and took Saif Hassam.
I did learn quite a bit from her class, but it was extremely dificult. She was rather mean, but I think she got a little nicer as the semester went on. If there's a good thing I can say; it's that the final exam was suprisingly easy after the three brutal tests she gave us throughout the semester.
I think she was great. She is friendly, approachable and quite funny. She was always smiling. Chemistry is difficult...it's not an easy A. I don't know how many times she would repeat herself because people would ask the questions over and over. Study hard, do the homework assignments and talk to her during lab...she'll help you if you need it
DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR!! Tried to ask her a question once and made me feel stupid. She embarrasses you in lab. Jack, David, Saif, and Rowland at the tutorial center is the ONLY way to get through her class. She should NOT be teaching!!!!!
Tatjana is great!DO ASSIGNED READING BEFORE CLASS!She wants to make you a better student. always helpful & smiling. obviously loves teaching. review chapter outcomes&do online hw. tests not hard if you know material. All test material is discussed in lecture, but don't expect her to do the work for you.cheat sheet on tests. grades on curve.very fair
I was afraid to take her class after reading these comments. but I like chemistry a LOT because of her. Ignore others, study and you'll do fine! Being a slacker will get you nowhere.
First off someone could start by spelling her name right, "It's TATJANA." She is honest and direct with a clear love for her subject matter. Be honest and direct with her, she will work with you. She does want you to succeed!!! I do find the class very difficult indeed--yet my mind is not wired this way! Very right brained! :)
Thanks for taking my fear of chemistry away Tatjana! You Rock!
Loved her... great teacher really wants students to enjoy chemistry and get alot out of this class. Hard at first but stay with it it is all worth it. Gets easier as the semester progresses.
Tatjana is a passionate and dedicated professor, who wants her students to expand upon their critical thinking skills and develop into successful chemistry students. She is witty and fun, and expects a great deal of effort from her students as this is not an easy course. I have grown to appreciate chemistry, and I will miss such a lively professor
SHE IS ABSOLUTELY GREAT...I WAS SO SCARED AT FIRST BUT IT TURNED OUT OK :).. I RECCOMEND HER
Tatjana is a really fun teacher. She makes chemistry interesting because she applies it to real life. She is spunky and excited about chemistry and she imparts this to her students. I am actually inspired to learn more about chemistry. Highly recommended!!!
Tatjana is not mean. She just has little patience with students who don't show up to class, don't pay attention, goof off, don't do the readings and then ask questions they should already know or that have been answered already. She is a college-level teacher who is there to teach to students who want to learn. She is not interested in hand-holding
I was really scared at first, but after the first day I knew she was going to be awesome! She explains things well, and I like showing up to class. I had an issue at one point during the exam and she was really understanding. I recommend her highly if you know you're going to show up EVERY DAY :)
I really enjoyed her class. She's very dynamic and is a great teacher. She wants everyone to do well and will help as needed. She encourages critical thinking and understanding concepts rather than just memorizing a bunch of stuff. Don't listen to the students that didn't like her...they probably just didn't study and suffered the consequences.
She is great. Wonderful person and teacher. Just make sure you understand the reading and ask questions. She allows a cheat sheet on tests. Really approachable. If you get below a C, its because you did not try at all. Or didn't have the time. I highly recommend her.
I think the there is like two people who just wrote a ton of bad comments about her over and over. I was scared to take her class because of the earlier comments. Don't be! she totally got rid of my chem fear. I ended up enjoying class. She's a really nice person outside of class too. Very hardcore but really really wants her students to do well.
I am sure that there must be better chem teachers at the JC. Her lectures were useless to me and I left them more confused about the subject than when I went in. She gets frustrated with the students when they do not answer her questions. She does allow cheat sheets for tests and if you are having problems talk to her she will do her best to help.
I love Tatjana!!! As long as you do the work that you're suppose to do, keep up with the materials, and come to class prepared, you'll be fine. She's definitely approachable and helpful. Professors are people too; and students just have to realize that they're there to do their job and that is to educate you.
Tatjiana is amazing. If you do not read the text before coming to class, you will not understand what she is talking about and you will not do well. The only reason people do not like this class is because that is what you must do in order to understand what she is teaching. She made me love chemistry. THANKS TATJIANA!!!
She is a great teacher. Even some of my classmates didn't like her lectures very much; I did very well in the class. Probably because I just followed her schedule, completed all assignments and homeworks. Her tests are kind of hard but as long as you understand the material then you are good. Be serious and try hard then you are rewarded.
I really didnt like her. She made people feel stupid when trying to ask questions and wasnt helpful when you didnt understand the material. There are many better chem teachers at the JC and i wish i would have taken chem 60 from someone else. I suggest not taking her unless you like being put down.
She is absolutely HORRIBLE!she makes fun of you and embarrasses you in class when you ask questions. She doesn't like to help you at all. She expects you to know everything and teach yourself. She is extremely confusing. Half of our class dropped because she is so mean. None of the material correlates. Don't take her if you can help it!
Always hard to know what she expects from students, hard to please, unhelpful, doesn't communicate well, late to classes, lets classes out late, is mean to students.
If you understand chemistry easily, you will like this class and this teacher. However, if you have a hard time understanding the material at all, this teacher will make your life hard. She gets angry with students who don't get the class and intimidates you out of wanting to ask questions. I recommend a more patient and comprehensible instructor.
Good chemistry teacher. Her test are not to difficult and you get a small cheat sheet. And she doesn't ask questions to make you feel stupid she is just trying to get students to learn how to reason through things, its a good way to remeber concepts. You do have to put effort into the class to get an but that goes for all science classes.
Ya-she must write all the good reviews herself! Take anyone else!
Tatiana is a great teacher. Her lectures are very clear and tries to engage the entire class during discussions. Trust me, you will learn the material much better if you engage in these discussions. I hate talking in front of other people but it helped me understand the concepts better. She let us out 15 mins before lecture ended. Very easy test
Very difficult course, especially if you are right brained and coming in w/o any background of chem. She is obviously passionate about the subject, but should not be teaching it. When asking for help, the response I got was "You should have the knowledge to figure that out on your own" When I did get an answer, the explanation was not helpful. GL!
One of the worst teachers I've ever had. Confusing and basically calls you stupid if you ask questions. Expects you to know everything already, if I knew this stuff I wouldn't be taking the class! Labs are pretty easy. Online homework.
Tatiana is a great teacher. She's passionate about the subject, and brilliant. She has a PHD in chemistry! To all the complainers below, this is chemistry, you cant expect it to be easy, if you aren't lazy and do the homework and skim the chapters you will do fine. And sure she can be a little cold at times, but she russian, what do you expect.
She is an awesome teacher! She expects success from her students and she is very dedicated in making that happen.Class is fun! She is very down to earth and smart and likes to joke. Read the chapter before class and take notes. She posts her lectures online afterclass and everything you need and when you need it. Wish I could take her for chem1A!!
One of the most sincere teachers I've ever had. She definitely teaches you, not just blabs away at you like other instructors. She's challenging, but still keeps things interesting.
In discussions and in assignments, show her that you're really thinking about the things she's teaching and she will be very nice, very helpful and you'll get a lot out of the class. If you don't think you can get into the subject, don't take her class because she'll make it hard on you.
She expects you to do your work and loves when you show interest in the class. She likes when you come to class with questions. The tests are reasonable and the labs are easy (fill in the blanks/ short answer). She did online homework and will help you out in her office if you need help. She is very clear in her lectures and prepares you well.
She loves what she does, but she expects a beginning chemistry class to know too much. She is not very helpful when you ask questions and has picked on some in class. If you have no background or are rusty in chemistry I would advise taking a different teacher. Her lectures are unorganized and class is always let out late.
Absolutely dreaded going to class. CHemistry itself is a hard subject so you have to study hard regardless. Her tests and material is not that bad but her as a person and professor is HORRIBLE. Her syllabus is very unorganized. She arrives late and expects you to stay longer. I felt like i was back in high school with her.
I have no interest in chemistry, but she is an amazing teacher. She really wants everyone to understand. This is not an easy class but college isn't easy! She loves what she does and she loves her students. This isn't highschool and she expects you to be able to read on your own. I would recommend this class to everyone! Great Teacher & Great Class!
Tatjana is a wonderful instructor. I was dreading this class and it ended up being my favorite of the sem. She is passionate about her field and hopes that will rub off on her students. she combines everything helps to relate everyday life. This is not a breezeby class you will have to work but will learn to think for yourself. Favorite teacher!!!
Expect a beginning Chem class to know what shes talking about without her teaching it. Gives NO study guides. Tests are short but very hard and she grades extremely hard. She yells at students and will put you on the spot. If you answer a question wrong she will LAUGH at you. Very rude teacher.
You need to be an independent learner to do well in this class. She expects you to read the book and come to class knowing the info and with questions about anything that was unclear. She DOES NOT hold your hand. Expects students to THINK. She is a wonderful person if you show her that you are willing to try. Show up, read the book, ask questions
Tatiana is a very smart and knows her stuff. However she does expect you to do much of the learning on your own and spends class answering questions and wants the class involved. She can be rude and will put u on the spot even if u think u asked a good question. Do the reading, study, and you will succed! Overall a good instructor and you learn alot
Tatjana Omrcen is razor-sharp, tough and sincere. She requires students to take responsibility for their own learning and wants them to succeed. Keep a positive attitude, work hard, and you will gain knowledge and earn a good grade. Ask lots of questions which sincerely interest you.
I have no idea what Tatjana's problem is. She's an intelligent character but dealing with her in a high level class is unbearable. Expect little help from her unless you become one her select students. If you are not one expect to be ignored during office hours, get no help in lab, and get laughed at and humiliated for asking questions. No help...
Blabs not on the subject thruout the labs. The grades on tests are pretty random, she'll mark down correct answer if you arrived at it a different way. She's snappy in class, and gives lots of attitude to the responses. Eventually students almost never give an answer and reserve to humor as defense against her relentless attempts to humiliate them.
She is very smart at chemistry but not so good as a teacher. She does play favorites. Her lectures were not so helpful and she did not prepare us for ACS national test. So expect to study on your own very hard. Hopefully nobody deletes my review this time because i just want to say how I feel about this teacher. Thank you.
We often had to study on our own because her lectures were confusing. My friends and I had to rely on tutorial videos on youtube to understand the materials. Exams were hard and she graded super hard. NO PARTIAL CREDITS. She was not super helpful in lab, unless you're her favorite student. She also graded the lab reports very hard :(
You're expected to read everything on your own. Tatjana has a lot of trouble understanding students sometimes - a joke can easily be an insult to her or a simple question can make you look like an idiot to her. She creates a very tense environment where students are afraid to ask and answer questions.
I have never felt more more inadequate in my life. The only thing I was tested on is my patience. I would rather change my major than take her class again.
Tatjana is the worst instructor I've ever had. She refuses to give partial credit on exams, even when she admits you're 34 right. She refuses to grade lab reports in a timely manner, saying we should be able to figure our our grades alone. She creates a tense environment where students are inhibited by stress and anger. God help us all.
Everything written about 12AB here is accurate. Lectures are disorganized and mostly group work so you'll really only learn from reading the book. She does not like people in office hours because she is "not paid to grade on weekends". Do not expect lab work back on time. With the class average being a 40% (on exam) there are still no curves.
Don't be fooled by Tatjana's reviews, this is a HARD class-it's college level chemistry for nursing students! But Tatjana takes the time to work with you and only covers what you NEED to know and knows that memorization is hard. I went through a family death at the end of the semester and she was there for me in every way possible & ended with a B!
She is the worst teacher anyone can imagine. She is rude, doesn't help during office hours, is never prepared, doesn't know the material well enough to teach it. She grates really hard and changes her mind about her expectations ALL the time. NEVER take her, she is not someone you want to have as a teacher.
She's smart, tough and on her game. She expects you to be on your game. She's funny and helpful but doesn't accept laziness or excuses. She supports her students.
Read, do the homework, and come to class with CLEAR questions. She will ask you questions about your question to help you get to the answer on your own. Do not expect her to answer your questions without any work on your part. Very understanding and sincere when approached in office hours, she truly cares. YOU will work for your grade, not her
This woman is the worst. Ever. How she has not been fired is beyond me. It's probably because she has tenure. She is rude, condescending, and detrimental to her students' best efforts to get an education. I got an A in her class, so I don't dislike her because of getting a poor grade. It's her abysmal attitude and demeanor. Avoid at all costs.
Tatjana was the worst teacher I have EVER had. My partner and I would have the same answers for our lab and tests and she would give me less credit than my partner, so it was like no matter how hard I would try I would still come up short. She belittles you, and makes you feel stupid. Almost half of the class dropped.
This teacher was horrible. Going to this class was like if you started reading a really difficult book in the middle of the book and all you have to go on is what the book is called. We took this quiz and I had no idea what the questions meant so I didn't finish it, I turned it in anyway and she looked at it and yelled at me in front of everyone.
Tatjana is an true teacher. This is a challenging class, because she teaches and tests your understandings of concepts. Its less about memorization, more about engaging in critical reasoning. Awesome grading system. Does not hand out points for just attending, but miss class and good luck. Going to lectures and asking questions are key to passing.
Be ready to read the textbook in order to learn. She did not lecture but rather asked for questions at the start of class and went from there. She really wants you to ask questions and participate but her attitude towards confusion and wrong answers will make you stay quiet. I would only recommend if you do well learning on your own.
She tries to approach her lectures with a modern collaborative approach encouraging open discussions, but does a very poor job at achieving it. She spends most of the class talking about something unrelated to the subject and waits until the last ten minutes to try and quickly cover everything. She doesn't explain what's expected for lab reports.
This instructor by far has been the worst in my academic career. Never have I ever felt so belittled and beyond confused. In order to pass this course do not depend on your txtbk, don't expect help in her office hours and despite all your efforts it's near impossible to get an A on labs. Advice: create a study group and prepare to bring chocolate!
She is passionate about Chem. Makes it known that if you show up to her office hours, she will help you out with understanding concepts. She definitely makes you work for your grade, but is really caring. A lot of people felt that she was hard to understand but go to office hours and it makes all the difference.. LOVE HER!
Just be ready to never know what your grade is. You're probably going to need your textbook because she can't teach a lecture so you're basically on your own teaching yourself. Doesn't even give half of the labs back. Overall educationally a really bad teacher but on the plus side she's friendly
Lecture was all over the place and most of the time was spent trying to get us to free think. Her material doesnt cover everything thats on her test, labs are graded unfairly, and she tends to belittle students. Going to her office hours really influences your grade. If she sees you care then she will bump up your grade
I was skeptical having never taken even high school chemistry. Her lectures seemed vague at first but the best way to get the most out of the class is to DO THE CHAPTER READING before class so that the lectures click with what she is covering verbally. DONT MISS LABS, she offers extras credit often and I suggest you do it! You will read a lot!!!
BEWARE!! This professor is not a good chemistry teacher at all. She gets distracted very easily throughout lecture, digressing on lots of irrelevant subjects. Many students do not like her teaching method. Get ready to study a lot on your own. She does offer office hours, but she is a very rude person. She frequently scolds students each class.
One of the most horrible professors I've ever had. She is extremely hypocritical and rude to genuinely confused students. She expects things out of her students, she, herself, does not do. Very arrogant, unclear, and will go off-topic almost every class period. Don't expect her to teach you all you need to know -- better yet, don't take her class.
Lectures are her talking about Croatia and having a larger brain than everyone else. Her lectures lack material, they are all over the place. She grades prelabs harder than labs. If you ask a question, expect to be more confused. She will not give you an answer. She likes to make people feel bad by embarrassing them in front of the class as well.
Toughest professor I've ever taken. Students teach themselves cause her lectures are more like rants. She gets annoyed easily and makes you feel dumb for being "uncertain" about a concept. With that said, theres a reason to her madness. I Learned more in this class than any other. She does care she just doesn't show it till the end of the semester.
I took her regardless of the reviews bc her class was the only one available. She is a hard grader. She makes you feel stupid for asking questions. A quote from her; Im not going to teach you this material because you have to learn it yourself. Thats like me trying to teach you to ride a bike. I cant do all the work for you. Save yourself!!!
Run! From day one she walked around the lab saying, Im looking for infractions. She demanded class participation but responded with comments like that was terrible logic! She also had zero tolerance for distractions, repeatedly saying I never had kids, Im not used to any noise. I have never felt so belittled/disrespected as a student.
The worst professor I had ever had. She is very scatter brained, expects us to know the material without being taught it & does not elaborate on her lectures! She is very impatient, not very friendly, has high expectations & she is not a fair grader. Read her ratings before I signing & feared her class and feared it. Took it due to no other classes
In the beginning of the semester, we had one teacher who was great. I had an A all the way through until the second half of the semester, he left & she came in. My grade declined very quickly. I no longer understood the material & neither did anyone else. It says a lot when grades are consistent/high for everyone until professors switch & all flips
Most degrading professor Ive had at the Srjc. Lectures are scattered and confusing. She makes you feel dumb when asking questions. Avoid if you can.
She's one of the most frustrating teachers you could have. She gets angry when you don't have questions, but never actually answers anything when you actually do have them. You can get by if you read and have a study group. FYI you will be LOST if you try to understand anything she says in lecture. Her brain is a mess. JUST READ!
I don't recommend. Not very clear on grading or what she is looking for. Lectures are unorganized; in fact, there aren't real lectures because she only answers questions during class, so make sure you have questions. I learned more in my previous chemistry classes than in this class.
I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS PROFESSOR AT ALL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The most awful and degrading instructor I have ever taken. When she"lectures," she always wants students to ask questions;when we did, they weren't "good enough." She's all over the place, grades unfairly, and is so "distracted" bc she never had kids. Please avoid her at all costs& skip chemistry until another instructor takes her place! Srjc-help!
Tatjana is exactly what you expect a real college professor. She is no bullsh*t, brilliant, and pushed me to do more than just memorize the material. If you're against working harder than usual, or have a hard time taking simple direction she is not for you. If you are willing to work, and just do what she asks, you'll enjoy it.
Tatjana was wonderful. O-chem was hard for me and a lot of my classmates, but she was incredibly caring & supportive, and funny, too. If you put in the effort, and let her know if you're struggling, she'll help you with whatever you need.
Don't be fooled by Tatjana's bad reviews, she's intimidating at first but she teaches students to critically think before asking questions (so you can teach yourself) & holds students to the full capabilities she knows you all have. I'm very grateful for how she's taught me to think. If you're intimated by challenges, don't take her. Very caring
Tatjana was an interesting professor, at the beginning of the semester I wasn't sure about her, but as time went on I got a better feeling for her teaching style. She expects the class to ask a lot of questions during the lectures, so come prepared! I found reading the book most helpful, don't underestimate the difficulty of the tests and STUDY!
All negative reviews are true. If you are a A student looking forward to taking this instructor I would advise to wait for another. Gaslight instructor be ready to just know her expectations. Chemistry is already a hard subject so understanding and doing the work as a student is work itself. Tricks you on exams purposely. No extra credit or improve
Students paying out of pocket and doing the best you can to receive A on grades. Wait for another instructor, or get ready to get spoken down to as a student and learn on your own. SRJC need to hire better instructors that actually care and willing to teach students the subject because this instructor is NOT it. Belittle and stresses students out.
If you need Chem60 as a prerequisite for another class, do NOT take Professor Omrcen. She is awful at helping her students succeed, and very very rarely will give extra credit. She will not release grades on Canvas for the entire semester so you will not know your grade unless meeting with the her. Save yourself the time and effort.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS!! She says that the reason she does this job is for the student involvement. However, if you ask a question in class she never gives you a clear answer and acts like you should automatically understand everything. If you want a teacher that makes you feel stupid then this is the one for you.
