I had Dr.Lobova for Biol 290 & 292. Class attendance was not mandatory but highly suggested as all the material on tests comes from the lectures and the examples she only gives in class. She is extremely nice and tries to keep things interesting. Very knowledgeable. Very good professor and highly recommended.
Has a mild accent which may cause occasional confusion. A very charismatic teacher who really cares about her profession, if you actively participate/answer questions in class she will call on you a lot but will also take care to see that you do well. Tests come from the powerpoints.
Great teacher, make sure she knows your name b/c she will keep track of your grades and encourages you. DO NOT BUY THE TEXTBOOK. Everything is from powerpoints and movies. so attend class if you want the easiest A ever.
Great teacher, make sure she knows your name b/c she will keep track of your grades and encourages you. DO NOT BUY THE TEXTBOOK. Everything is from powerpoints and movies. so attend class if you want the easiest A ever.
Amazing professor! She seems like she'd be pretty tough but really as long as you attend class and take notes in addition to the powerpoint, you can get a very easy A.
She is awesome! She is Eastern European so she doesnt sugar coat things. Knows your name right away. Include everything she wants which she outlines in the Syllabus and you will get an A. Dont elaborate to much. Be straight and to the point thats what she wants. I wish she taught more classes I would take them!
Very good Professor, she knows what she is talking about .. as long as you attend class and review pwer points you got an A .. the textbook is useless
Wonderful professor. Very sharp, cares about her students, knows her stuff. Has a mild accent but speaks amazingly well, even cracks jokes. Pay attention to the videos, and review the powerpoints for an easy A.
Accent is ok, but flies through slide shows. No clear guidance in assignments. Pairs graduate and undergraduates for group reports. Lab is really just a 3 hour lecture - no activities and minimal field trips. Grades holistically with no clear rubric/grading structure. Does try to help through email, clear direction would be a great improvement.
In class, she is straightforward to the point of bluntness, does not tolerate any stupidity or excuses, and does not make exceptions to the rules. If you need help, visit her during office hours: she is attentive and reasonable and will bend over backwards to help you if you are really working for it. Best professor for serious students.
she is hard to understand very smart and rude she doesnt answer questions she always tells u to look at your syllabus or ask your TA. she does not compare to DR Kilburn. All quizes are done in class. She needs to speak to Dr. Kilburn on how to lecture a class with so many students. you cant tell a student you dont care if they understand.
Lobova is a great professor and she really knows what she is talking about. She cracks jokes, but she doesn't tolerate foolishness in her class. If you need help shes makes herself available after class and during office hours, and she asks for questions at the beginning of each class. Failing this class means you put absolutely no effort into it.
Great professor. Refers you to your syllabus because the answers are there. Pay attention and do a little bit of work and it's the easiest A ever. Highly recommended.
LOVE HER!!!! Attendance isn't really mandatory, puts all powerpoints on blackboard and all her test questions come from them. Makes jokes and makes class entertaining. Really helpful, makes herself available after class, during office hours, and answers emails quickly. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!!!
Dr. Lobova is straightforward in her lectures. She relates the material we learn to our lives. Since this is a human biology class, she'll make us more aware of diseases and ways to treat or prevent them. Humor is thrown in her lectures too, you just have to understand it. Great professor, take her!
I hate Biology, but she makes it relevant. Tests are from the online files, word for word. Try and go anyway because she makes it fun, but if you dont its no big deal and you can still pass.
she gets smart with you for NO reason. she reads right off the slides in lectures. She is dry and boring. if i had the option to take someone else i would. avoid her class!!!!
LOVE LOVE LOVE her!! One of the best professors that I have had ever. Tests are easy, lectures are straight forward, and as long as you dont act like a child (come on, we are in college now!!) she is sooo nice and treats you with respect (not like other professors who dont care and have big egos) and will help you any way she can.
She's really funny. Her accent is hard to understand at times. She also goes through the power points VERY fast but does post them online. Also her tests are very hard. You can do well if you study.
I was able to understand her perfectly by the end of the first class. Straight forward professor. She presents the material logically and systematically. The tests are not hard if you stay conscious during class and do the online assignments. Her office is always open, if you do not get an A or B in this class it is your fault.
Her classes are kind of boring because she reads off the slides but paying attention to the videos is key. She is sort of strict but all in all she's ok.
She is very strict but very straight forward. Her tests come right from her powerpoint lectures and the movies she shows in class. If you take notes and pay attention this class isnt that bad. After taking several biology classes I would take her again for sure.
Dr. Lobova is the BEST. She is hilarious & very straight forward, explains things precisely, she doesnt take attendance but to do well you should go bc her exams come straight from her lectures and what she SAYS - aka take lots of notes (hint: record her lectures and listen to them while you study her powerpoints and you will get an A like me)
She gives very clear and informative power points on what is to be on the tests. None of her tests are cumulative and she gives 'pop quizzes' that are really just chances for EC on Fridays. She is SUPER STRICT (almost too strict) on writing papers and penalizing anyone with the slight suspicion of plagiarism. Other than that her class is okay.
Dr. Lobova is great. She is strict, but that is college for you. You want something easy, get your head back in your ass and go back to high school. She helped me during her office hours and went over all my exams and quizzes. You have to listen to her lectures. She will quiz whats not on the power points.
she is very strict but if you listen u will be fine
Kinda strict but shes very helpful and nice. Pretty good teacher. Attendance not mandatory but she will show videos and you have to answer questions that will pop up on tests. 4 exams but lowest grade dropped. Really study pwr pts/study guide and you can at least attain a B. 4 online assignments. Not too bad but a bit of work to get good grade
The class itself is easy, the only thing that is graded are the tests and online homework the day before the tests. Other than that its just lab work. She is difficult to understand sometimes. Lecture is boring, and she has so many students she does not have time to help you, read the book and figure it out yourself.
The class is boring and strict. I was .3 away from an A and she didn't round it. Just read and study, because you're on your own in this class.
Lectures are a bit dry and attendance is not mandatory, but I suggest you go because she shows videos throughout the semester and questions deriving from the videos will be on the exams. Exams are multiple choice, computer-based, and in my opinion a bit tricky. A quiz is given every lab and there are two group projects you will have to complete.
She is the best teacher I have ever had. She is very funny, very smart, and is willing and able to help you with your studies at your convenience. Any one who has taken her class seriously will never be the same again.
You get what you give with Dr Lobova. If you're a jerk, she's a jerk right back. If you try, and if you want to learn, she will help you. Tests are ppts and videos from lectures; you're paying for this class, so just show up and you'll be fine.
She reads directly from the PowerPoint and you pretty much have to teach yourself the class. Her tests have literally nothing to do with what we go over for the most part excluding about 5-10 out of 50. Almost every person does terrible on her test. I've met one person that got over a C on any of her tests. Do yourself a favor, don't take her.
Dr. Lobova is a hard professor. I am not a biology person and it has shown throughout this class. She reads from the power-points and her tests are HARD. I studied for over a week for all the tests and only receive C's. The labs are okay if you study for the quizzes. Not an easy general ed. class.
The course overall is hard. You basically need to study the lectures, I recommend to study each lecture after so you don't have to cram. Allow yourself at least a week to study. The lectures are put online though so attendance isn't mandatory. The labs can be hard as well.
Dr. Lobova is great and knows her stuff.First time I took this course, a year ago,I failed. Did not go to class nor put in any effort. This semester, Iattended almost all classes, and I received a B.She goes into depth with her lecturesand helps you to related it toreal life.Tests are not bad. Lab quizzes are not bad, study the self tests before clas
I thought this class was stupid and pointless. You don't have to attend class at all the notes are all online. She has terrible english which makes it difficult to understand anything she says. She does not make the class enjoyable at all! I would not recommend this teacher.
Don't believe what that last guy said. Tatyana Lobova knows her biology and teaches it in a way that everyone can understand and relate to. She is elegant and will make your gen ed requirement more beautiful.
tests are hard, hard to understand. Didnt like her. Dont take this class
Dr. Lobova is an excellent instructor. She tells you from the beginning what to expect from the class and based on my observations the students who did not succeed did not spend a sufficient amount of time studying. She is helpful if you attend class and are attentive during her lectures. She was one of my favorite professors. Studying is mandatory
I would not recommend her to anyone. Her exams were hard, even if you studied all the notes on blackboard she would still have questions that we never learned about on the exam. The homework assignments were pointless, because it did not help any with understanding the material. This class overall was horrible, and she is not a good professor.
Hard class! Hard exams! Hard to understand!
Class was very boring. She is very hard to understand at times . Did not have to go to class lectures were on Blackboard and got the answers for the videos from a friend. Do not take this class
Professor Lobova is an incredible instructor. During the first lecture, she tells you exactly what you must do throughout the semester to earn an "A" in her course. As long as you attend lectures, take notes on what she says during the lecture, and read the text book, you should do well in this course.
Super easy Bio class
Her tests are very difficult. I believe they are 50 questions multiple choice. I had a difficult time understanding her power points. I knew multiple people that had difficult with this class. Put in effort to this class. If you are good at listening to power points, and fully understanding them, you might be good.
This is one of the hardest 100 level courses at ODU, dont expect to get an A on a test expect c's and d's and most likely f's, homework is hard and graded weird, lab is like another class, quiz is every class and papers and projects, if not required dont take it
Worst professor I have ever had at this university. Her class seems fairly decent until you take the first exam and fail it- and believe me, MANY students did. I studied a lot for tests and did well in every other aspect of the course, but the exams pretty much make up the grading table. Do not take her, several students complained to the dept head
This class is literally what you put into it. You MUST read the textbook! Reading, studying the terms, doing the hw, and paying attention during lecture is the ONLY way you'll pass. To thoroughly understand the text, read the textbook before class, take notes, and then fill in the extra notes she says during lecture. There's no way you can't pass!
She has office hours; she usually always have something going on. I studied and the test are hard;too much info for one test so she picks particular topics, God forbid you focus more on the wrong subject. She does not give extra credit often. She grades hard on discussion boards. She is nice but a very tough professor;hard to understand.
Extremely difficult class for an intro class. She also has a thick russian accent thats difficult to pay attention to. Attendance is not mandatory, but you will not pass if you skip. Tests are super hard.
I tried to talk to her about my grade, she kept canceling appts, she is the worst professor I ever had, she grades hard , many students went to the tutors and even they said she is just too hard. She does not offer much help and take pride in individuals who aren't science majors FAIL her course. no curve no extra credit
This class is very tough, you need to stay on top of all your work from the very beginning and make sure you do everything in your power to get good grades on the assignments. When I took the course tutoring wasn't available which made it even more difficult. I wouldn't recommend.
She has a thick accent but its easy to understand. She is actually pretty funny. The material is interesting and you wont need to take notes if you read the chapters. however, her exams are extremely HARD. She drops the lowest one at the end of the semester but it is still really hard to get above 70 on her test... which is class average.
Out of teaching environment, respectable woman. In lecture, boring.. hard to understand.. abrasive.. Definitely one of the hardest courses I've ever taken. Tests are NOTHING like the studying she advises of you She literally creates study guides that don't resemble the test.. at all. Definitely wouldn't recommend if bio isn't your major.
Dr. Lobova is incredibly smart and passionate about Biology, she tells yous exactly what you need to do to pass on the first day of class. She gives homework assignments every week and 4 tests through the semester. She will help you if you need her, but you gotta ask. Tests are hard! Read the book! Go to class! You'll pass!
10 small online assignments, 4 tests (lowest score is dropped so do well and you don't have to take the "final") Goes through the notes very fast but puts notes online. Class is boring but its hard to understand the concepts if you don't go to class. Need textbook to do online assignments
Course is well laid out and very informative. Labova is very clear and commanding with a Russian accent so you wont get bored(no phones in her class). Just do the work and study the slideshows & test reviews and you will do well & learn a thing or two!
tests are super tough, pay attention and take notes during the lecture. classes aren't boring, its easy to pay attention. make sure you study everything and know everything before your test or you will fail.
Lowest test garde will be dropped. I could never get higher than a 68 on the tests but I still managed to get a C in the class because of homework, which is online. Just search the answers on quizlet. And she gave 1 extra credit assignment. Even though I got a C, I suggest taking it. Im really bad at science , so just pay attention
Dr. Labovas class (BIO 112) is one that will relate to your every day life. Lots of information but lectures are clear and accent is understandable. NO electronics all homework is online and drops lowest test grade. Highly recommended to take this class!
It is nearly impossible to pass her class. She gives 4 exams throughout the semester and each one is hard. She uses incorrect grammar on her tests which makes it even more hard. Her lectures are boring and her powerpoints are not helpful. Choose another professor.
It is impossible to pass her class! She lectures as though all her students are BIO majors. Only take this course if you live for Biology. She made me hate it. The exams are impossible to pass because there is no study material. I am failing! Also, she is so behind on grading that she hasn't graded anything. Its week 3. Where's my grades?
This class is hard. She provides study guides which are irrelevant to the test & she tells you that. I dont even understand the reason for giving study guides that dont help you study. The test are hard. If you dont mind throughly reading every chapter & devoting your life to this class then youll pass!
It took me two weeks to figure out how to pass her tests but I managed a 92 on the final exam. If you study the questions from the quizzes (you have to remember what you answered) and the study guides from the online lessons plus do the quizzes and DB's you will pass this class with no problems.
If you take this class online beware. I thought it would be better because the lab is done online which works well if you have an adult life like being married and having a house to keep up on. But exams have to be done at the library or using ProctorU which charges for their services which leaves taking an online class ineffective.
Dr. Lobova was very textbook heavy, a majority of the test material came from the textbook so, if you don't do the books practice quizzes and read cover to cover, you won't do well. The lectures don't help much either, she basically talks at you, not to you. Would not take her class again.
Professor Labova is very passionate about the subject of environmental science. Her lectures are always interesting and motivational. She goes over exactly what you need to do to pass the course. She does not take away points if you don't come to lecture, but you do need to keep up with the homework online and memorize the terms to pass the exams
Weekly reading assignments with questions to be answered. She pushes you when you need that push. Amazing lectures. Class is always so interesting.
Shes speaks like our First lady(Mrs. Trump) . so its very hard to understand what she is saying. Her exams are hard but I am passing right now
I really enjoyed Dr. Lobova's lecture. She's from Russia, so her accent makes it fun just to listen to her. Read the ebook, do the homework and remember what you put, complete the quizzes, and pay attention in lecture. Dr. Lobova is very caring if you just go talk to her about any kind of difficulties. I would take her again if I could.
10 discussion boards, 10 quizzes, 4 tests
She dressed very well and loved her accent! Her lectures are vey boring though and if you are not a fan of science, you may not want to take this course. It was not interesting at ALL. You will need connect because that is where homework assignments will be as well as four tests/exams, which you will take in the testing center. She drop lowest test
Mrs. Lobova environmental science class is easy. You can easily find quiz questions online. Everything from the Homework down to the finals are online. She drops the lowest score exam. The exam is reiterated of the quizzes. You get two tries for each quiz and the highest score gets recorded. I honestly never attended lectures and I passed.
This class was tough, but if you work for it you can get an A. There are 4 exams (she drops the lowest grade). 14 chapters, 14 quizzes, and an assingment for each chapter. Multiple choice tests. Exams are online but must be taken on the Test Center.
Probably the easiest class I have taken so far in college. All you have to do is the web-based homework and the quizzes for each chapter are open book. All of the tests are based on the same questions from the quizzes and a few from the homework itself so if you study those you'll be fine. Her lectures are boring but attendance is not mandatory.
Lectures are not mandatory but I enjoyed going to lectures. The professor is caring and wants everyone to pass. Homework and quizzes are due every week online, but tests are taken in the Testing Center. The lowest test grade is dropped, so if your are satisfied with your grade by the end of the semester you do not have to take the final test.
Im begging you all.... do NOT take her for online biology. Its a trap. You will fail.
The class itself wasnt difficult. The assignment schedule is consistent, the tests do require a bit of studying. However, I would have to argue with those that say she cares and wants people to pass. Professor is inflexible with the needs of modern day students - even if one has consistently done prior assignments.
She has a very strong (Hot) Russian Accent. There is a DB every week which counts for attendance since its an online class. My final grade in her class was 80. which is solid B in her book.
If this class was created for NON Biology majors, I feel sorry for the majoring in this subject!! Her lecture, homework, discussion board, quiz and exam workload is RIDICULOUS & SHE HAS NO MERCY! Find another instructor if you can because it just cannot get any harder than this class! This is the reason I HATE science. It is going to ruin my GPA..
Not very responsive. Accused entire class of cheating.
Was a non bio major, hardest class ever.
If you're taking BIO for Non-science majors, you might as well take the BIO for science majors. The class would be a lot easier if she was actually understanding, but instead, every question you have, she'll refer you to the syllabus, and then still grade you critically. Probably the worst class I took out of my 4 years.
Prof. Lobova was an effective instructor. Lobova along with her teaching assistants sent out reminders about upcoming due dates for assignments and such.
I had mixed feelings with this course. Homework and quizzes are through the e-book online, and I used these assignment questions to study for the tests and I got A's and B's on the tests. Attendance counts for points even though she was late to class almost every class. The content is straightforward but you have to put in the time and the work.
Did not care for this professor at all. Very disorganized and rude! Saw other poor ratings for her but decided to take my chances. It was a mistake. I knew bio online would be more difficult but she made it so disorganized the only thing you could study were the quizzes. Labs were online as well and that made it even more difficult.
I am a non-science major and had to work harder in this class than some of my major courses. I did every homework assignment & attended every class but still struggled to get a B bc of the tests/quizzes. Attendance is very important to make up some credit. You will most likely pass, but you will work for it.
Online- its pretty straightforward. You do the chapter reading, chapter homework (or just do the homework, you can reviews slides/text if you do it wrong without penalty), lab and quiz... followed by exams covering a few chapters. Bio is generally hard but the class is well organized and the professor isnt really factor. I like that.
Holy homework (wkly): Reading, Smartbook assignment (2 hrs), discussion board & video, lab, ch quiz - 2x, occasional relevancy module (read, quiz 2x). Dr. Lobova & TA clearly outline assignments in the syllabus. Do the work you'll get an A. Pay attention to the schedule to reserve time for the 4 exams on ProctorU. Overall a lot of work, but easy.
She doesnt grade a single thing herself. She spent two class periods telling us how to do our homework and went on tangents, wasting everyones time. Not flexible in the slightest.
Life saving advice: Do the learnsmarts (HW), do the quizzes (most answers on quizlets) and when a test is coming up get together with a group study the quiz questions. ALL test questions come from quizzes so if you go over the quiz questions of five different people & you should be set for the test. Also always take the quizzes twice to see more Qs
Do not take Lobova for lecture. She is impossible to understand and constantly gets off-topic. Her exams are difficult and 100% based on your textbook. She puts 0 effort into grading, as 100% of the assignments you turn in are graded by a computer. She is strict on attendance. She also always went overtime and caused me to be late to other classes
She was not a good professor, she would arrive late, as well as post late work to be due. Im sorry but I would not recommend anyone taking her at all.
Imagine an online class you HAD to come to lecture for. Assignments, quizzes, and tests are all online, even the powerpoints are taken from the online software. Attendance scanner had issues at the beginning and grades suffered. If you don't attend enough lectures you could drop about a whole letter grade. Save the headache, take it online.
This has been the most painful online class I have ever taken. She is not flexible in the slightest. I was so sick one of the tests days and it took awhile for her to allow me a makeup day as I could not physically get up to take the test. All of the work is through a textbook website making everything graded instantly and not by her.
Worst professor ever. I took her class for Bio for no science and this is the worst clas I have ever taken. She is so rude and does not care about student concerns at all. Do not take her class unless you have too and if you do good luck.
HORRIBLE! DO NOT TAKE HER! She is the WORST prof I have had in 3 years and is so disrespectful to students between email. She does not help us with any questions we have and are basically left to do EVERYTHING by ourselves. She does not care about anything having to do with the students or their education. Worst decision ever taking this class.
I wish I could give this sad excuse of a professor a 0/5 because she is by far the worst. She did not teach one lick of content herself; instead relying on automated systems to do and grade everything. She was completely disengaged even during this pandemic. I am disgusted by her lack of empathy. You're better off teaching yourself. Avoid her !!!
Don't even think about getting a nice reply to an email, she doesn't give a crap if you pass or not. There is so much work to do, and for the points given, it's not even worth it. Look forward to doing one lesson for 2-3 days, 6 hours each day. Class is a joke for a nonscience major.
What is expected of you is clear, but it's a lot of work and it's all on a website and she doesn't teach at all. I had a few technology concerns and reached out to her, she was super rude and pretty much blew me off - no help at all. I took it over the summer and it was SO MUCH WORK. If you can, I'd avoid her.
I reviewed Lobova poorly once before but changed it because my problems were with the tech she used, but she changed it after bad feedback which was super understanding. lf you actually do the work there is no reason that you won't get at least a B! Overall, she's kind of a boss and I respect her, but she can seem a bit detached at first.
She doesn't teach. She tells you to pay attention to the quizzes and study those when in reality, only about 70% of quiz questions are on the tests. You have 70 minutes to finish an 80 question exam. She is PETTY if she chooses to respond to emails. LOTS of HW every week. Each chapter has 50-85 concepts and you have to answer 3-5 questions/concept.
Literally the most work load Ive had in college and for absolutely no reason. The Smartbooks you need to do for her online class are completely mismatched from that of the questions on the exams she gives you which make it ridiculously hard to be confident goin into the tests. Good luck with this one.
HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE. This professor takes an extremely long time to respond to emails, and when she does; they are not helpful whatsoever. She should be more present and more understanding, especially considering this pandemic.
I just wrapped up Ecology online with Dr. Lobova, and it really was a treat. The class itself is eye-opening, but we all know that the professor determines how good it is. Well, this class is GREAT. Dr. Lobova is direct, her assignments are clear, and she is on top of her emails. The class can be tough subject matter, but hard work pays off. 10/10
Most of the questions on the test come from the online quizzes from the textbook. Emphasizes that we need to know everything from the textbook which is ridiculous because it is a 200 level class. Go on Quizlet and find all the questions from each chapter and study all of them, it got me an A and will get you one too.
Dr. Lobova was an extremely caring and kind person if you were genuine about your reason of illness or problem during COVID. She is ready to go above and beyond to help you if you are a hardworking individual. You just need to show her you care and you want to do your best by reading the assigned chapters, attending class, and asking questions.
Her expectations: read a chapter, complete a smartbook assignment, take a quiz, complete labs, a lab quiz, watch a video & write a DB over it. All in a WEEK! On top of that, she expects you to remember everything that you've learned in 3 lessons (3 weeks) for the PROCTORED exam. & you CAN'T use notes on exams! Setting students up to fail!
She has been the rudest teacher I have experienced at ODU. If you want to get an A I would not take her. If you have accommodations or work she will not work with you to take the test around that. Tests are only open for two days 8 am on Thursdays to 8 pm on Fridays. You have to either use Proctor U or Proctorio. All the homework is 80 questions.
I am so over her rude emails that she sends. She sets exams to go from Thursday-Friday night and will send 1-3 emails about how if you decided to take your exam Friday night, then its your own fault if your wifi crashes. "If you're experiencing difficulties with the Exam, it's too late to get help from me." Her words. So unnecessary "Dr." Lobova.
One of the worst at ODU, she does not care about her students. She doesnt teach us, we have to read a chapter answer 150+ questions, do the quizzes (twice), lab, lab quiz, DB all in one week. Then we have proctored exams on three chapters worth of work. NOT OPEN NOTES.. 3 chapters of memorization for 80 questions. Treats this like a 400 level class
DO NOT TAKE THIS INSTRUCTOR IF YOU CAN HELP IT. SHE ASSIGNS SO MUCH WORK FOR A NONBIO MAJOR THAN TURNS AROUND AND GIVES THE EXAM THE SAME WEEK. HOWEVER, IF YOU DO ALL YOUR WORK ON TIME YOU SHOULD BE FINE EVEN IF YOU FAIL YOUR EXAMS. YOUR EXAMS ARE BASE ON YOUR QUIZES. GOOD LUCK
THIS IS THE WORST class I have ever taken at ODU and also the only class that I learned absolutely nothing in. She expects us to read a whole chapter, do two labs, a 100+ question assignment, watch a video, do a DB and take 3-4 quizzes all in one week. Exams are 80 questions with 60min. Be ready to memorize your quiz answers, that's how I passed!
Dr. Lobova was really helpful when I had trouble this semester. Many of the other reviews say she doesn't care, but I reached out to her and the TA and they were both really kind and understanding. This class does require a lot of work and many assignments, but tests use quiz questions, you have time to work ahead and everything is online and free
I really hoped the reviews on her wouldn't prove to be true but they are. I haven't emailed her so not sure about that, but the amount of work in this class is absolutely insane. I've done less work in 400 level classes during an entire semester than I did in 1 week of her class. Seriously, if I had more semesters I would have dropped her class.
3 exams, a final, and weekly textbook HW and quizzes. Exams are straightforward and similar to the quizzes. Just make sure to do the assignments early, because she doesn't give extensions if you have issues last minute. Class often runs late, so try not to schedule another class right after this one. Overall great prof, would gladly her take again!
Worst professor I have ever had the misfortune to take at ODU. DO NOT TAKE HER. This class IS A LIE. It's supposed to be entry level but the class work is insane .She doesn't teach the class if you take it online, McGraw Hill does and she's super dismissive in her emails. DON'T TAKE THIS PROFESSOR. AVOID. RUN AWAY.
I am an A student, this class is extremely difficult, it's an introductory class yet the professor gives "busy work" when taking other courses this is just too much and often people will do a quick read and move on to the next class. The exams are proctored and timed. There is enough time, however the questions are sometimes tricky. Be aware!
Inconsiderate and inflexible. She's just collecting a check, her deadlines are SET IN STONE even though she herself grades nothing, McGraw Hill should be getting my tuition, not her. DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS, the homework is 50+ questions long, and the quizzes and exams are video-proctored. Do yourself a favor and DO NOT TAKE HER ECOLOGY CLASS. 0/5
I have never needed to leave a review in the past, but this professor is horrible. DO NOT TAKE HER. She is inflexible, gives you busy, and class is extremely difficult. Exam are multiple choice, but mostly drag and drop with not even a minute per question. She will not respond and when she does it is usually backhanded and not helpful whatsoever.
The homeworks are easy A's since it's almost impossible to fail- questions will stay where they are until you get a right answer. The quizzes and tests are directly linked to said homework questions. She's clear about what you need to study, and goes over most missed questions. She's pretty tough and her boundaries are clear but I respect that.
Please find another professor for this class or just don't take it. Tons of homework every week. Be prepared to answer 100 plus questions a week for regular homework. Plus a lab quiz and chapter quiz. Each Module has 50 plus concepts that take forever to complete. Timed proctored tests with more questions than time. AVOID HER
I took Bio for Nonscience majors with Prof. Lobova online. She assigns at LEAST 18 hours of work every week and it's always the same thing just different material. All of the tests are on a lockdown browser that records you, your screen and your audio. The tests are about 75 questions and she gives you an hour to complete. This is the worst course.
She is so rude and unhelpful. If you have any kind of problem or question her answer is 'figure it out, not my problem, or the uni board'. Good luck trying to get help. It would be better to just take an in-person class. If I could give a 0 I would, she is such a b and does not care. Don't even get me started on the tests and proctor system...
This class really stressed me out. She doesn't give you a lot of time for your exams. She gave us 60 minutes on a 71 question exam, and the end of the exam had a lot of drag and drop questions, so she totally set us up to fail. If you want a professor that actually cares about you and understands your situation, she's not the one. Save your money
She gives an excessive amount of work for a Biology for Non-Science Majors class; I spent more time doing her work than classes for my actual major. Not very helpful in helping you succeed.
Way too technical for Introductory biology. Heavy assignment load and extensive reading. And if you are able to manage the assignment load, good luck with Proctor especially if you have questions. Tech support have heavy accents are nearly impossible to understand. I have done proctor in the past but hers is a piece of work.
Dr. Lobova is extremely rude and does not work with you at all. If there's any reason you need to makeup an assignment or need help, it will get blown off immediately. None of the course work is graded by her directly other than the discussion boards. Her responses come off as snarky and she clearly does not have any care about her students.
Overall, the class was very easy. There is a lot of work each week to complete, but it was not difficult work. It was mostly busy work. I do not like science, and I did not mind taking her class at all. The exams were fairly very easy. If you do the work and read you will be fine.
This professor is unforgiving when personal life issues arise and you are unable to make attendance in class. She would not allow me to make up an exam after I was involved in a car accident that day. Through out the semester I had multiple days when I was unable to make it to campus for reasons but she would not allow flexibility for missed class.
Ok so for the online class, the material is provided by McGraw Hill. Professor was really hands off; most of the problems had during class were due to McGraw Hill's website. The class is actually really easy if you follow her checklist for each module. If you follow that checklist down to the letter you really will pass. STUDY FOR TESTS!!!!
Professor Lobova was an okay Professor. She is not understanding of missed assignments, so do not bother asking for an extension. She is very hands-off when it came to the online class. Be ready to teach yourself. You will pass this class if you stay on top of your work. If you can dedicate the time it is possible. All exams are proctored.
Nearly everything in this class is automated. The professor is very hands off and her responses are often to the affect of go figure it out yourself. You are paying hundreds of dollars to teach yourself the material, and it's much more in depth than an intro biology class should be. Extremely time consuming for one class.
Dr. Lobova is a very tough grader for sure and you have to make sure you meet the deadlines to pass but she honestly just wants the best for her students. I have an A in the class only because I buckled down and studied hard for the exams. This is not an easy A and its a tough class with a lot of info but she's very understanding in some cases
Passing Lobova's class mainly entails lots and lots of memorization. Make sure to read the smartbook to get good grades on the quizzes since the quizzes are similar to exams which helps a lot. Make sure to come to class since she adds +30 pts at the end of the semester if you've attended a certain number of lectures!!
No extensions or late grades. All assignments and tests are done on McGraw Hill connect. Focus on the highlighted parts in connect textbook and you'll be fine. The recorded lectures are just recaps of the textbook, don't bother with them. Tests are video proctored so study for them. Weekly quizzes are proctored but do not use camera.
Lobova strikes me as a professor who is deeply resentful of her position and does not care for any of her students. Attendance is graded but will show up late. Uses a software and does not come up with anything original in her lectures. Once showed up hungover and passive-aggressively insulted us all class. If you can take anything else, do it.
Avoid taking her if you can! You teach yourself through a text book. So many weekly assignments... it's just not worth your time or money.
This class was very difficult. There are no study guides for the tests and no clear focus on the topics for each test. Attendance is madatory, but she shows up 10 minutes late each day and goes overtime. She barely teaches, so you basically have to teach yourself, and still can miss informtaion that is on the test because the topics are all over.
Professor Labova has brought her past traumas with her and inflicts it on her students. She has Zoom meetings late, looking hungover, with a nasty attitude. Do not become ill. She will not honor your doctor's note. Coming from a dictatorship she has issues. Professor Labova is very unprofessional to say the least I have filled a complaint & pushing
She was always late to class, but her outfits do serve.
All work is on McGraw Hill; each week there's a smartbook assignment and quiz due. Her lectures are very poorly paced and doesn't cover all the material in class so be ready to teach yourself. I just took notes straight from the textbook. There's no study guide for the test, but if you study the quiz questions from those chapters you'll be fine.
This is a self taught class with an extreme amount of homework, reading, studying. I spent about 25 hours a week teaching myself non-science biology. You will have zero input or guidance from the professor. Read, homework, 2-3 quizzes - repeat for 11 modules. From there you'll have an exam after 3 or so modules. The best part of the class, LABS!
I would advise against considering Lobova's class if you happen to be employed full-time, she lacks concern for those with busy schedules. Her demeanor is characterized as rather unpleasant and rude, raising doubts about her suitability for the title of educator. Unfortunately, support and consideration for others don't seem to be her strong suits
Pretty straight-forward professor being online. Syllabus and grading was clear. We had the same thing due every week in regards to homework, quizzes, and tests. She even reached out to me after one exam and told me great job on the improvement. Tests were pretty average (STUDY!!), I got around the 70s range on each, but did well on everything else.
Study the questions from Mcgraw Hill Connect and you'll be fine. You can honestly just teach yourself all the material BUT if you have 8 or more absences, you get a 0 for attendance. Be aware that she will come to class late and she will hold you for a couple of minutes after class has ended. And as someone else said...her outfits do serve.
The in-person class is entirely based on readings, smartbook assignments, quizzes, and exams all from the textbook. Lectures are not relevant for the tested material, but attendance is graded. This course required memorizing quiz answers, not applying or understanding the material.
Attendance is mandatory, but expect her to be 5-10 minutes late EVERY class. All assignments and exams are based on the textbook. She does not curve and offers a single 10 point extra credit intro assignment. She reads off powerpoints and goes on tangents easily.
Prepare for the professor to be 5-10 minutes late to every class and for her to hold you after class time is over. The lectures don't help at all. Everything is through McGraw Hill, I taught myself everything. If you memorize the quiz answers, you're golden for the tests. Attendance is a huge part of your grade, scan that QR code!
This professor was by far the most disrespectful professor I have ever dealt with. Not only does she demeans students over email but she also is very aggressive and argumentative. I would never take another class with her being the professor because of her immature childish actions. Beyond appalled by her behavior.
Prepare for her to be 5-10 minutes late each class. Lectures in class are worthless. Everything is through McGraw Hill Connect. If you study the quizzes you'll be good. Take her class virtual.
So awful do not take. She made us do so many assingments
Do not take this class if you are not prepared to devote at least 12+ hours A WEEK just for this course. There were about 7-9 assignments due each week unless there was an exam that week. Be prepared to read the textbook, 95% of quiz and exam questions come from it. Highly recommend taking another course. This professor is not good at all.
This by far was the worst class I have taken...I HIGHLY do not recommend taking Dr. Lobova!!! The amount of work she assigns in a week is insane! If you have any other courses to take along with her, I'd advise you not to because you'll have to spend majority of your time getting her assignments done. Stray far away from this professor!
This professor does nothing. All the homework/quizzes/tests go through McGraw Hill Connect. Her role is just to let us know when something is due. There is a ton of work to be done for each chapter; expect 10+ hours per week on assignments. ODU is getting my tuition to pay this person who does the same thing my calendar app could do.
McGraw Hill I feel is the only real educational professor in this course. You take a quiz for example and fail it you can't find the answers until the due date. Take the quiz a second time and the higher of the two counts. HOWEVER, I wanted to know what I got right and wrong so I can learn. This is not my learning style.
There are tons new concepts for non science students. You have to know all concepts of a module in 7 days. This type of teaching is one of the reasons why students do not retain information. You are expected to memorize all information. Exam and quizzes are worded to confuse you. Data dump for sure. If you want to torture yourself take her class.
Professor is often late, but lectures focus on the textbook. Studying quizzes and using tools like unstuck ai for prep can help you do well. Just be ready to teach yourself the material.
Professor does not do anything. TA does everything and still sucks at grading discussion boards. Tons of homework and time taken up by this class. This professor makes this class awful and unbearable. Do not take this class if you are a non-science major.
Take anyone but her. This Professor and her TA should be laid off so their salaries can be put to real use. They serve zero purpose and are not educators, as they let automation do literally everything and only have something to say when it's about something you've done wrong with no explanation or teaching from there. Exams are designed to fail.
TA mainly grades everything. Prepare to spend most of your time preparing for this class. If you're good at studying (and enjoy biology) this could be an easy A for you. Everything is due on Sundays, and you have a 2 day window for exams. Some assignments were interesting, some videos were boring. Quizzes are open note. Labs were easy.
Avoid this class at all cost if you do not want your mental health to decline! professor Labova is always late, rude, never available for questions, and she has no empathy. Everyone is not designed to be an eductaor and she fits the description. How can she be the head of the biology department when her attitude is horrible? Her TA is just as bad.
I do not think this professor is bad at all! We are adults, and her class is easy if you are good at managing your time. It is a lot of work, but if you keep up with the assignments, lower grades will not affect your overall grade much. Exams were easy, they're based on questions from previous quizzes!
If you are looking for a NON science major bio class, please do not take this one - 5+ hours' worth of work for one week -teacher + teacher's assistant are both rude and inconsiderate if you try to contact them -will not let you make anything up, no matter the circumstances please this class with Dr. Lobova is not worth your time or tears
I personally loved Professor Lobova online. Material was easy as long as you read the textbook and did the Smartbook assignments. Tests and quizzes were straight from the Smartbooks. She even personally congratulated you on good tests scores.
This is not a class for adult learners. The syllabus states it requires 20 hours worth of work, which for a young college student is reasonable. 20 hours working full-time, with kids, is not reasonable. Very heavy on course reading material. Online work is difficult to navigate, everything is graded including reading the syllabus.
This professor is a handful. She is very rude to students when they ask for anything. She does not physically teach anything, forcing you to rely on the textbook and the adaptive learning modules. I was taught strictly through McGraw-Hill. She also does not allow you to learn from your quizzes, so you can't see where you made your mistakes. Beware.
