Awful! Tests are very hard. Lectures are boring. Half of his class fails.
Do NOT ever take him for anything, jumps around so much you NEVER know what your suppose to learn!! AWEFUL teaching qualities but a nice guy, just can't teach worth a flip:( NEVER made anything under an "A" until I took him:(
Has no teaching qualities at all. Would like the class with another teacher. Skips around constantly, you never know what he's talking about:(
Great teacher. Very engaging! The only students who hate him are the lazy ones who want an easy grade and aren't willing to work.
Very entertaining, made class interesting. Expects you to do your part to do well in class.
Requires Students to actually think about the concepts taught. Lots Of notes but the course really gets you ready for the "college experience" I you take this class be prepared to work and study!
Explains everything thoroughly so that everyone understands. Not too hard. I passed with a B.

This guy is horrible, the first day of class he told us that 90% would fail!!! Very difficult to pass...I can't believe he's still there.
You pretty much have to read assigned material to do well. He is somewhat interesting in class, but the content is just boring no matter who teaches it. Tests are fairly hard, don't avoid him, but if you have someone else in mind, try them first.
rashid is a hard grader, and is not helpful. his tests- God himself can't prepare you for and it sucks.
He looks for reading comprhension, he helps you think of the why. His tests comes from the reading and the notes. If you do not read it will be hard for you, but if you do the work you will have no problems. He gives detailed practice tests.
Must read texts and pay attention in class to do well. Tests are objective and essay. Interesting but its still history!!
very good teacher. i learned a lot from him!
this guy is OUT THERE!! but his class is fairly easy and he does have a way of keeping you interested. strange man
This gus is crazy. Half the time I had no clue what he was saying. He told the class at the begining of the year that half of us would fail.
Stupid class with a horrible teacher to explain it. Cant understand a dang word he says. His grading isnt consistant, a very 'he likes you or doesnt like you' grade in the class.
He is rather difficult. I had to change all of my study habbits, but I learn a lot. I think that it all depends on the students attitude and how much they really want to get out of class, if they want to take Rashid. He isn't that bad, just a good challenge to the brain!
Professor Rashid is a really nice guy. He tends to get a little kooky in his lectures, and trys making jokes that sometimes aren't that funny, but at least he tries. The only bad thing about him . . . His tests are killers. There's basically no way to get As or Bs on them. He does curve, though.
I dig Rashid. He intentionally corny jokes make me groan and laugh at the same time. However, he really pushes critical thinking. Since I waited a while for Civ I was ready for it, but I think it's asking a bit much of incoming freshman who aren't prepared for it.
His test are not hard, but everyone does bad on them. I whole time you are taking his class you are wishing you arent there and knowing you have a bad grade, but in the end you are surprised with a B. Most likely. Do the quizes and you will be fine.
nice nice man very hard teacher
Rashid is a very boring guy that has the talent of making a very interesting subject boring also. The tests and quizes are very tricky and you never want to be there.
He used many vocabulary words that normal people would not know and expected timelines to be studied, he was big on knowing dates and gave many essay questions on tests
He is too weird, and not a stay on topic kinda guy! Seems bias towards women. Test are completely confusing, especially for take home quizes. Hisquizes contridict sometimes with class book and discussions go on and on, very boring. He talks about minor details that we do not need to about half th
This is possibly the worst professor I have ever had. His grading techniques are pitiful. He does not give many high grades. The workload for his class is unbelievable. He expects you to read anywhere from 1-3 chapters a week, plus course reserve material that is longer than the chapters.
This was the hardest class I have taken in college. If you really like civ, then he's your guy. Just be ready to study hard. My grade reflected the class average and trust me, it wasn't that good.
I found him to be very helpful when having difficulties
This guy is an absolute joke of a teacher. I am going to say this as clear as I possibly can. DO NOT TAKE THIS GUY'S CLASS!!!!! If you do, you will wish that you listened to this comment. If you do happen to take Taufiq's class, then GOOD LUCK. Trust me, your going to need it. Oh, and I hope you like to read because thats all you will do.
Couldn't understand a word the man said.
Rashid's lectures are easy to follow and interesting to listen to. He does a good job at keeping himself from rambling. And his sense of humor really helps to keep the class moving.
Prof. Rashid is one of the few who is passionate about what he teaches. While he may be scattered at times it is only because he doesn't seem to want to leave out anything important.
Ok, the reason that the people who rated him poorly couldn't understand him or the words he was using is because your brain makes your eyeballs seem huge. If you study the material that he gives out, you will be fine, but you have to study.
One of the hardest classes I've ever had to take. but I love the teacher. Very nice man, just not someone I would recommend for your Civ classes.
He's pretty hard...but not impossible. Pay REALLY CLOSE ATTENTION TO HIS LECTURES...and take really good notes. Also let him know you're trying, he really likes that. Oh and he does kinda grade hard on his papers...like real hard, but if he knows you're trying, he'll help you out. Very nice guy!
This is the kind of class where you think you know what you are doing but then you take a test and relize that you thought wrong. nice guy, hard class
This guy is an Arabian nightmare. Here is a no **** answer to your question: should I take his class? HELL NO!
Nice guy--thats all i can say for him. Very hard class. I took notes and studied for an hour EVERY day and have a D. He uses the biggest words in his brain. I think he makes half of them up.Dont take this class unless you want to fail!!! IF YOU WANT TO FAIL, TAKE RASHID
Awful!! He failed me and I tried my hardest...this man tests over absolutely nothing he talks about...do not take him...WARNING!!!!
Don't listen to these people, Rashid id great. I hated world history until I took this class. He is tough, yes, but you HAVE to be willing to try, study, and work hard. As long as you READ, GO TO CLASS and study the material he gives you, you'll be fine.
He grades ridiculously hard. It's CIV 101, for crying out loud, and it's the only D I've ever made. I definitely do not recommend him to anyone.
Rashid?? I thought his name was Satan. He is ridiculous. Civ 101 shouldnt be impossible to every student that doesnt breathe history. Wait, is he an english teacher or does he just grade papers harder than one? He purposely makes quizzes impossible and he probably chuckles when he gets to write F on every paper.
Rashid is a really smart guy and most of the reviewers weren't smart enough to keep up. I, of course, had no problems. If you're smart, he's actually one of the most interesting people you're likely to meet at MSU.
He was a horrible teacher. He would give you study guides, but they didn't seem to help when it came to the test. His lectures were very boring and he didn't give good notes!
He is a very hard teacher and totally full of himself. I hated this class everytime I went to it. His tests were very hard and unless you wanted to read a chapter every night you would not get all the information. I feel sorry for anyone who is in his classes now. You may be lucky enough to get out of the class with a C maybe!!!!
this was my first CIV class and it took me for a loop. His lectures don't really follow the book and he is very hard to understand the first several weeks you have him. You have to read the book and study all the notes in order to do well on the exams, which are very difficult. Tough class to take, I don't recommend.
He is probably the worst professor I have had in my entire college career. I couldn't read the 20 chapters a night and ended up making a D...my only D in my four years. I'm ending up having to retake Civ 101 as a senior in college.
Very enthusiastic and keeps me awake with his corny jokes. I like the guy and think he does a great job.
good teacher pretty much. really bad jokes. sometimes hard to understand because of the accent. somehow after having an 89 average and then getting a 93 on the final, i still ended up with a B....i dont know what was up there. you will have to read a buttload of stuff though.
I can't understand a thing this guy said.
I loved this professor. He makes you love to learn history. His class is tough but with lots of studying it will be easier. He is so enthusiastic about teaching!!! He has a great sense of humor!
I enjoyed taking this class. He is tough-but can't get decent grade in civ if you dont study!!expect to be spoonfed-this class isn't for you! He has a great sense of humor and he loves history and makes you see it in a new light. He shows his enthusiam when he teaches!Attend classes, study--you will do fine!
ALl the people that said bad things about him are just stupid, lazy, dumb, ignorant, and I dunno what else. He's one of the best professors i've ever had and hello---this is college and he expects no less than what a college student is capable of.
Seems mostly like all other civ teachers here: difficult, yet interesting. Lectures are enjoyable and keeps you entertained, but its a lot of trouble to keep up in his classes if you're not someone who can hear what people say and be able to remember it by every detail for a long time. Book rarely used, some extra credit (but don't rely on it).
He is probably the lowest rating I have ever given to a professor. He is not like any other civ teacher and he will admit it himself. His class is boring and the extra reading about this theory or that is boring; in addition, he makes his test with the intention of tricking you.
He is a very nice teacher and is understanding when it comes to late assignments, BUT he mumbles too much and is boring almost every lecture. He needs some visuals to wake up his classes. I wont be taking him again, take a better teacher with clearer english.
I loved this teacher. He is a little difficult, and you have to think to do his exams. The exams are made up wrong if you ever take EDU classes with many "A and B" or "all of the abvoe" type questions, but they come direct from the book, and he posts most of class online.
Are you kidding me? This guy is the worst teacher ever! DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS! It is absolutely horrible. The most boring lectures of all time and that is all he does. His tests are ridiculous and his papers are impossible. If that is not clear enough for you then I don't know what is. DO NOT EVEN THINK ABOUT TAKING RASHID! TERRIBLE!!!!
He is horrible lectures are very boring and hard to sit through. He makes up what he teaches none of it is in the book! Is the weirdest teacher I've ever had. I don't know how I pulled off a B!
Worst history teacher I've ever had. Never failed a history class until Mr. Rashid. His quizzes and tests consist of trick questions which are impossible to answer, even with notes. His papers are impossible to do well on, even for someone who is great at writing. I now know why no one wants to take his classes.
He is extremely HARD!! a great guy and his class is even fun but HARD!!!!!
Decent class, not too hard if you put some effort in it. Kind of jumps off subject and gets confusing at times, but all the notes are put online.
I had him as a teacher in the CHA program! His class was always interesting and LOTS of fun!! I loved his class and always looked forward to his witticisms!! I would recommend him to everyone for a history teacher. He knows his stuff and can teach it to students REALLY well!!!!
Great and captivating teacher, but you either love him or you hate him! He does have a thick accent, but if you're used to accents he's awesome! His classes are very writing intensive!!! Keep up with the readings and take good notes and you'll pass the tests. He loves it when you participate in class!!!!
Very confusing. His tests are almost rediculous because there are no distinct answers. Very strict on attendance as well.
He's hilarious, but I don't always understand what's going on.
He's good when it comes to quizzes. All of them are take home, but they're not always the easiest. He does give study guides before tests and you only write one paper. He's hard to follow in lectures and he's very corny at jokes
No opinion here. He's hard, but everything he says is fact. He's strict, because he cares if students learn or not. He doesn't make you somewhat learn, he makes sure you know everything 100% correctly. If you don't pay attention in class, then don't take him. However, if you want to learn something, take him. Had him before, went right back.
I did not think he was as bad as everyone had proclaimed. As long as you do what he tells you to you will be fine, just be sure to study all his quizes and sample questions because that is the test basically.
He is challenging without a doubt. But, this class was the first taste of college for me. If you work hard, study and pay attention during lecture, you WILL get an A or B. A lot of time is required outside of class for readings, etc. One paper for the semester. Recommend it if you're looking for a challenge and different view on history.
I took him for 101 and failed. Then I took 102 in the summer and passed, but only because the tests and quizzes were take-home. He DEFINITELY asks trick questions. I wouldn't suggest taking him unless you have a GREAT photographic memory cause you'll need it! Wouldn't suggest unless it's a summer course.
good teacher very much enjoyed the classes i've had with him
I was accused of plagiarism by Rashid... which he finally defaulted on after we had an argument in which somehow he protested my theories on John Locke were completely not of my own... oh, and he said, and I quote, "I am an economist and I know that income has nothing to do with revenue." Probably the worst experience with a teacher I have ever had
By far the worst teacher I have ever had. This is coming from an A,B student. I actually did pay attention in class but he made absolutely zero sense. If you take him good luck, and kiss your butt goodbye!
Rashid is the worst civ teacher anyone could possibly take. He loves to flirt with the older women in the class and he always has pointless jokes. He wastes class time rambling on about God knows what because you can not understand him. He does not care about the students at all and coming from an A student he makes it impossible to get an A!
His jokes are not funny, and his lectures make absolutely no sense. He will lecture you every day about how you are not in high school anymore. He's one of those who refuses to admit when he's made a mistake, even when he was clearly in the wrong. He may be a nice guy, but he's a terrible teacher. Do yourself a favor a steer clear of him.
The key to taking his class is to sit near the front and answer as many questions as possible. Be friends with him. Your grade on the paper will determine your semester grade. I took him for 101 and got a B and for 102 I got an A. Work hard on the quizzes. An A is possible, just a LOT of work!
I enjoyed Mr. Rashid's class. He is pretty difficlut, and as everyone says his tests are trickie. I think I am a much better student because of his class. His jokes are corny IF you are less the intelligent, and you dont understand them.
His class isn't that bad. I was able to learn a lot and he makes it very easy. He will give you all the materials you need to get an A; however, he does expect you to put forth the effort. Quizzes are take home, and he gives you all of the notes. You just have to read them and your text books and you will be golden!
He was hard you will have to work your butt off. His quizes are take home but sitll really hard and his tests are even worse. He does want to make you a better student so he wants you to work harder but if you don't care about the class it can really piss you off.
does not make the material understandable. he is really funny and a nice guy but does not explain the material very well
Total Jackass!!! He does not know how to stay on subject and his jokes are not funny nor intelligent. His class is a waste of time and money. Warning: CHOOSE SOMEBODY ELSE!
I took Rashid's class and ended up hating something that I once loved. Terrible teacher...expects you to know information that no one would normally know.
I am glad I took Rashid. I really liked the notes that he gave us. They were really helpful. All the quizzes are take home and the test questions are similar to the quiz questions. His class is a lot of work but i though it was fair.
PLEASE DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS!i took his civ 102 class and worked so hard to pull a passing grade. He is scatterbrained in lecture and notes and tends to get off topic all the time! The tests are difficult as well as the papers you must write. Not becasue of there content but because he is so strict on grading them!
The teacher was concerned but didn't do anything to help me as a student
I didn't even sign up for him but was assigned to his class anyway. For over a year, I heard about how difficult he was, and was very nervous when first attending the class. I gave it the benefit of the doubt and thought I''d make it through okay. Wrong. Rashid is probably better of teaching at Harvard. Avoid him if at all possible.
Dr. Rashid is a very intelligent man, and he has very high expectations for his students. His class was pretty hard, but if you do the reading and just put in some study time, it's not too hard. He's very lenient on late work, and the only homework you have is to read and do quizzes (which are all take-home). I love his lame jokes.
Don't believe him when he tells you that it's just as hard to fail as it is to pass his class.
Worst professor at Murray State and possibly in the world! Take anybody but Rashid. I am your everyday white male student and I am telling you: DO NOT TAKE RASHID!!!!!!!!!!!!
If you want an easy A, take another professor. If you want to learn how to critically think, gain relevant experience, and be pushed to your limits, take Rashid. I got a "C" in this class, and I was a 4.0 student. However, I EARNED this "C"
Rashid was alright. He certainly doesn't just hand out grades - you really have to earn the grade that you get. It does help if you laugh at his lame jokes and make friends. Looking back, I would have chosen another professor if at all possible.
He is an awful teacher. Nothing really makes sense. His notes are like essays not notes. I am not a C student and that is what I ended up getting in his class. DO NOT TAKE.
I don't understand the negative reviews, HE WAS GREAT. He is really smart so some of his jokes went a mile over folks heads but was always in a positive mood and has a great method of teaching. He encourages you to go see him about any questions, so DO it. Not the easiest class but this is college and that's the idea (work hard=learning) TAKE HIM!
Doesn't work with you. Called my class 'Stupid'. DON'T TAKE HIM.
Dear average supposedly smart student, this man will destroy you!!!! If your not able to write like an English major DON't Take!! Just take Spanish
I took his class over the summer. I don't really like economics, but his class was fun and not overly hard. You have to think, though. He also makes a lot of jokes (such as the invisible handjob). He ate lunch with students in the stables sometimes, too.
He is a great lecturer BUT his lectures are worthless. He keeps the class entertaining and is informative, but all of the HW and tests are over material from the book, NONE of it is from his lectures. You have to read his lengthy notes and the book to get higher than a C.
I love history, LOVE IT. This man makes me dread the thought of any history, he completely ruined it for me. I know another girl taking the same class with another professor and her class is nothing like Rashids. I didn't think he could be as bad as the reviews, he is... maybe worse. I'm an A student, he killed my GPA and made me hate school.
WORST TEACHER EVER! He will talk down to you. He grades harshly and unjustly. While he does give you prompts for essays, there are things that he wants you to put in you essays that he doesn't tell you about till after he grades it. He doesn't listen to anything you have to say and doesn't care, but puts on a façade to appear good.
I enjoy school and am a hardworking student, but I despised this class. His lectures are pointless and he rambles on and on. I never fully understood the point he was trying to make. His notes may be helpful, but they are never posted on time. He is probably my least favorite professor and made civ boring and difficult.
Way too much information way too quickly. unhelpful and unclear essay requirements. harsh grading and a very boring class in general. A lot of notes and reading.
Worst professor I've ever had.
If you like to sit in class for 50+ minutes and leave confused on what the point of the lecture was Rashid is your guy. He cracks jokes that aren't funny and it makes for an awkward situation. His tests are all based off of the book not his lecture notes. Would not recommend to my worst enemy.
He's very nice and smart, but his class is extremely difficult. He expects you to understand the material like he does. It's a bit all over the place and way too specific. You really have to work for it.
Takes a lot of effort to pass and even more to do well. Lectures are pretty good despite what others are saying. That doesn't mean everything he talks about is what is on the test. If you want a challenge (for whatever reason) you can take Rashid since he is quite engaging. Oh, and don't miss a class.
A solid teacher with great lectures. He expects a lot out of his students, but is generous with the final grade to those who step up.
His explanations of things is unclear he jumps to whatever pops in his head at the time. He does not tell you everything that the papers need before you turn them in. He thinks his class should take priority over all the others.
Long lectures, jumped around a lot. Cuts up and makes it a fun class if you can understand his humor. Long reading assignments daily and tests are tough
Insults his students. Tells the class that they shouldn't be in college. He says reading is the ONLY way anyone can learn anything. You do have to read the book, but that's not it. You also have to read his 30 page notes along with 15 page side readings before EACH class. DO NOT TAKE! Teaches like you should already know everything. CIV 202 HON
He grades very tough and you will have to read a every night! His study notes for the test are like 20 pages long and he is very rude!
This class was incredibly hard. His lectures were interesting sometimes but they were always really hard to follow. His quizzes and papers are also really unclear, not to mention he is a super tough grader, especially when it comes to his papers. I don't hate the guy, but I hated this course with all of my heart.
Rashid gives you the class outline on the first day. you HAVE to read before class and read the lecture notes he gives you if you want to know what is going on. His CIV 202 class required a lot of reading. you have to have a passing grade on the second paper to pass the class. 6 take home quizzes, 2 papers and 3 Exam for his class.
He grades extremely tough. He is rude. He talks about random stuff most of the time, one class he talked for 30 mins about how sausage was made.
His class was very difficult. If you have anything to do outside of college (ie a part time job or two) this class will be very difficult for you. I used a whole cartridge of ink just to print out the side readings and lecture notes that he expects you to read before every class. Expects everyone in the class to know as much as him.
Does not teach the information that is on the test and quizzes. Expected to know everything.
Very tough professor & VERY disrespectful to students. He lectures the entire class and is very hard to follow. He gives pages and pages of notes and expects you to read them, on top of the reading in the textbook and even add additional readings to those too. Does not make things easy and it is impossible to get help because he is very degrading.
You may be thinking to yourself when you take this class you will learn about world civilizations. I regret to inform you this is actually Goats 202, how to milk them & how to carry them. Seriously talks about goats all the time, and if you pay close enough attention he just uses different fancy words while circling around the same ideas.
Does not use his lectures to cover any of the material that is on the quizzes or exams at all. Quizzes and exams are all take-home and every single question has five right answers. He spends all of the class time discussing philosophy and, oddly enough, goats. Do you have eight extra hours every week to devote to reading? Take this class.
Be prepared to read his notes 20-30+ pages and the book, and additional online material. His rubrics and unclear and grades hard. Belittles his students, but addresses the entire class. Beware. He means well and the lectures are somewhat interesting, but apply 0% to any course work. Good luck.
Yes his lectures are hard to follow along with but if you pay attention to the highlighted notes you'll understand. The study guides are literally word for word to the test. The hardest part is the essays, they are take home though, and you have plenty of time to work on them. I've had worse professors. Its not that bad as everyone thinks.
He is very helpful outside of class. Do the study guides and take them to him, he will provide the correct answers as long as you give a solid effort. Overall, one of my favorite professors so far.
Rashid is very funny; however, that's all I get from lectures. The lectures don't add much to the notes. It'd be easier to just read through the 20-30 pages of notes per week. His quizzes and tests are graded on technicalities. You also have 5-9 answer choices as well. I don't recommend taking this class unless you are really good with World Civ
