It was an amazing class, really fun but I actually learned quite a bit about speech. Professor Shimp is super nice and laid back. She lets people work in groups to do small little speeches every so often, the small little speeches were super fun to make and listen to because they were very light hearted and many times very funny. Overall amazing!

I hated public speaking, still do but Shimp made it really fun. By far one of my favorite classes ever!! She makes us do a little talking in front of everybody every day but that makes it easier to get used to the crowd, very helpful, professional, and laid back. My heart broke when the class ended.

There were 5 speeches (1 min, 3 min, 5 min, 7 min, and impromptu 3 min for final). She isn't an easy grader, but a fair grader. Book is expensive and you need it for the ten quizzes throughout semester. Make sure to follow the speech guidelinesrubric. Even if you give a great speech you won't get an A if you don't follow prompt. Laid back class.

Taure was a great professor. She always keeps the class interesting with her question of the day. She is very willing to help students perfect their speeches in both content and organizational aspects. I definitely recommend her class.

Mrs. Shimp was awesome. She makes the class really fun. Speaking in front of people made me very nervous and uncomfortable. But Mrs. Shimp gives you some great suggestions and there were other students in the class who were helpful also, so by the end of the semester, it wasn't so bad, and we all kind of bonded and were in it together. i came into this class nervous and worries that i wasn't going to do very well, but Professor Shimp turned that around. she gives great lectures, and will always be there to help. shes makes the class very fun and interesting for students.

I loved taking Comm102 with her. She made the class very fun and interesting. I especially liked all the group work we did in this class. I'm not sure if taking COMM 100 Public Speaking is a prerequisite to this class, but it seems like a lot of students didn't know how to give a good speech at the beginning. I think she should go over some tips.

Ms. Shimp is straight forward with what she expects from you as a student. She has an amazing teaching technique, she uses PowerPoint during her lectures, so be sure to take notes. Read the assigned work, show up for lectures, and you will pass. She is humorous and great at teaching communications. I highly recommend her 4 any communication course.

amazing professor! I had attempted a speech class a yr before, &dropped due to lack of interest. But the first day of her class I was hooked, she's extremely clear about the assignments, very organized on blackboard, grades were up regularly, free PDF for textbook, &very available through email & went above &beyond to help us. Taken in the summer.

Needed for transfer. Amazing teacher. If youre not interesting in a communication major and only need to get this class out of the way I fully recommend taking her class. She is so nice and helps explain the material. She makes speaking in front of the class simple and fast. Grades easy so if you mess up dont worry, you probably still got an A.

To get the best grade possible, don't just listen to her. Watch her. Everything she wants you to do while giving a speech she does like second nature, which happens to make her lectures super easy to listen to. She's really cute so that can get kind of distracting but who's complaining. She gives activities to get the class comfortable speaking too

All you have to do is give yourself time to work on the speeches and you will pass. She goes over every detail on how to do the speeches and why they matter. Very easy and fun class. She does a lot of activities that you will like. Also, she gives a lot of extra credit opportunities.

I walked out this class a different person. I would never in my life stand in front of a group of strangers and speak before them. But this class has helped me build courage to do so and even outside the classroom. Expect to know how to do research and cite your sources! Probably the biggest piece of advice I could give. Awesome professor!

The speeches she give you are very easy and and she gives you notes before you start a speech so you kinda have knowledge of how your speech should be. Also she give you workshop days to bring your laptop and ask any questions you have about your speech.

This was my favorite class and teacher! It was my 1st semester in college and I am so glad she was one of my first teachers! Thank you again for making a class that could be very awkward fun and relaxing!

Tuare makes this class super painless. 100% recommend her. She's a bit of a tough grader. Make sure that you make EVERY point count. 89.9% will Not get you an "A"!

As it was a speech class, as long as you had a bit of improvement from when you first did the class to the end, Mrs. Shimp is a good teacher. She will be there for you, and is just waiting to help as long as you need it.

she is an amazing teacher that explains everything in a way thats not complicated and you feel comfortable in the class being able to talk without feeling judged or pressured, homework assignments werent difficult or overwhelming because everything is easily explained. all in all this class 10/10. She has a very good teaching style. Only have us two speeches to give in front of class such as an Informative and persuasive, also a group speech. Gives chapter quizzes that are only 5-6 questions with 6 being an extra credit question. Only got a B+ because I missed a couple of days. Be sure to never miss because the material is very important.

She made this class a stress-free environment. As someone who really dislikes public speaking, I actually found this class to be quite enjoyable. The speech giving part was not as difficult as I thought it was going to be.

Skim the chapters she assigns (online textbook), make friends as quickly as possible, and be absolutely sure to include everything that she asks for (or suggests) in your speeches. Come to class prepared with powerpoint and blackboard knowledge. Otherwise, just have fun and don't miss class.

Miss Shimp is very laid back. You can tell that she cares about talking to her students. She is always there to answer questions! She's a little cheesy and goofy but her class keeps you interested and educated!

Every type of student will probably like Taure's teaching style. The material is interesting and she sparks great discussions. Her projects were challenging but in a good way. Her quizzes are a little tough but if you read you will do just fine. Plenty of Xcred. opportunities. She's professional and also highly accessible/friendly. Strongly recomm.

Professor Shimp is super easy to pass. Her notes are easy and her pop quizzes are easy if you pay attention in class the day of the test. There is one group project and personal journal entries throughout the semester. She asks you buy the book but its the end of the semester and I have never opened it.

I'm not a fan of public speaking and was not looking forward to taking this class but she made this class interesting and easy for students who are scared to talk in front of people. There's 3 main speeches which she gives you plenty of time to work on and ask questions about.

When I got to class she was so serious I thought about leaving but I stayed to see the syllabus. But when she started talking she makes you feel comfortable. Book is online FREE! 11quizzes,A quiz after the lecture sometimes she will tell you. & 3 speeches Easy Grader! Hardest part is just saying the speech but if you do its An A! Highly recommend!

Absolutely the best speech professor. She is very understanding and gives a clear grading criterion. Three speeches throughout the semester but she does incorporate homework and quizzes which are not hard at all. As long as you try and do your speeches you will pass. She helps us feel comfortable speaking in front of the class. The Best!

Shes very smart, helps you feel confident in the class and doesnt make you feel uncomfortable during speeches or debates. She encourages you if she sees you struggling, she talks you through it and is there to always happily help.

Any of her classes are very easy to follow and pass. She is quick at replying emails and any questions you may have during class; however, she does not really take control of her class until its too late. Long story short, if you take her class youll pass but it will probably feel like a waste of time.

3 presentations over all. One group one, and two solo. She is extremely helpfull!!! RECOMMEND!!!!

I took this course over the Summer and it was great! It's easy, just do the work and you have an A. Her online modules are great as well as her in-class presentation. Oh! And the book is free! Highly recommend her.

One of the best professors I've had at MJC. I took her Interpersonal Communication class and it was a breeze. Few assignments here and there, small quizzes every other class, and a group presentation final. She was a delight the entire semester and I would totally take her classes again!

Professor Shimp is an awesome inspirational professor. She takes a class of random students and turns them into a community of peers who enjoy learning with each other. This was one of the classes I actually will miss. She explains well and is straight forward with how she expects assignments/speeches accomplished. You will surely pass the class.

She is a very easy-going professor. Attendance is mandatory to every class (your grade will drop almost a letter grade by not showing up). There's only three speeches throughout the semester with one being a group presentation. She makes it very comfortable to do speeches in front of the class!

This class was very fun and informational. Taure is not a tough grader and really appreciates your work if you try your best. She responds quickly to questions. There was not very much homework and just the speeches, but you are given a good amount of time to complete them. In class workshops days were given.

I took interpersonal communication with this professor in the spring 2020 semester. I took it as a hybrid class although it was transitioned to fully online due to COVID-19. Overall, she was one of the best professors I have had. She gives clear grading criteria and is an excellent communicator. There is also plenty of ways to get extra credit.

She requires that you come to class but it's through zoom so it's not like it's difficult. You do have to write speeches but it's honestly really easy and she's very helpful if you need help. I dropped a communications class before due to social anxiety but I'm so glad I took it again online and with her! I highly recommend her.

I absolutely loved professor Shrimp. She is one of the most sweetest and caring professors I've had. The workload is super easy as there is one discussion and one quiz per week. We only did two speeches and she is very understanding while grading. If you have the chance to take a class with professor Shrimp, you definitely should.

I loved her! She made my transition from highs cool to college so easy. I couldn't imagine a different first professor. She was so helpful with everything. She answers all your questions without any judgement and emails back so quickly. She also grades very easily. All you have to do is try and she will be able to see it.

I absolutely love professor Shimp! Shes so caring and understanding and gives amazing feedback on speeches. There were only two speeches you have to do, and coming from a person with bad social anxiety, it was SO easy. She is not a tough grader. Attendance is required. Every week there is a discussion and quiz but they are really easy!!!

If you have a chance to take Professor Shimp's COMM 102 class, go for it! I was apprehensive since I've never taken any kind of public speaking course, but I absolutely loved this class. The two speeches are the most "difficult" parts of the class, but as long as you start early and prepare, you can do well.

Super straight forward class. It is fun and well respected professor. Each week watch 2 video's, 5 question quiz online with no camera, then 200 word discussion every week. Also 3 speeches for the entire semester. Which she goes over. If you do the homework, participates, do the projects. Then you will have a easy A+

This class was amazing. Although no "textbook" the Professor has an e-book that you use. There is a weekly quiz, along with various writing assignments. The Professor is always available for questions. She is fantastic. You will NOT regret taking her. Don't let the syllabus scare you!

If you want a peaceful semester, pick professor Shimp. She is awesome and makes class feel so easy. Speaking 3 speeches was made easy because of her.

A standard amount of work is straightforward as long as you attend class and pay attention. Three speeches total, that's you get to pick the topics. Going to miss her classes

Professor Shrimp is a wonderful professor. If you have a fear of public speaking, then I would recommend taking her class because she makes you feel very comfortable during the 3 speeches/presentations you need to do throughout the semester. She opens up her office hours if you need help with anything throughout the semester too.

As a person that does not like public speaking AT ALL, she made it doable and easy to go up in front of the class. We had one group project. She does take attendance and you do have to answer the question of the day right after but nothing crazy. She is super understandable when it comes to people that are afraid of public speaking.

Professor Shimp was amazing teacher. I took her hybrid class, she was so caring and understanding. I missed an entire month of class due to illness and she didn't hold it against me. You won't regret taking her class. She is very available to her students. She made my first communication class easy!

I took a summer online Comms101 with Professor Shimp. We only had 2 assigned speeches that were done over zoom. She did not have a heavy workload. Public speaking isn't for everyone, but she made it so that it was comfortable and easy.

Took this in my first semester at Mjc. It was so nice and refreshing to have her class among all the hardships that come with the semester. There is a good amount of presentations but as long as you try and do the work she is a pretty soft grader. Overall a pretty easy and enjoyable class despite being a really nervous public speaker.

Good lectures had this class in the morning and her good presentation skills kept me engaged. A textbook is used but its available free. Highly recommend this professor.

Super easy class! She understands if you're nervous about speaking and shares personal experiences. She gives great feedback, and it's not a difficult class at all, 100% recommend. Speeches are in person, and you're allowed to use flashcards.

If you need a Comm class, take hers! Super supportive and makes everyone feel comfortable with the presentations. There is a group project which I didn't enjoy as much - but it's an easy A class if you try at all. Also don't stress about deadlines, if you communicate she is very accommodating.

Gives great feedback. She really wants her students to succeed. I took 103 and 102. Both classes were fabulous for an introvert like me to excel at writing and performing public speech. There are videos, free online books, and templates that help you understand the concepts to use in your speech writing and performances. There is group work.
