I don't counsel students ---Tavy Ronen
Why isn't she fired yet?
Her class is a waste of money and time you don't learn anything - has no idea about the real business world
Very bad. Treats everyone like they are kids. Doesn't let anyone ask questions, and if she does, she makes you feel stupid for asking. Extremely mean professor who should be at Rutgers. She doesn't like teaching...I suggest taking someone else.
Supergenious!! and look so good..
Rudest prof i've ever had.she doesn't know how to control her facial expressions, so she tries to smile all the time even when she mad.I suggest finding another profesor to take.Ronen doesn't like her job,it shows every time someone tries to ask a ques and she wont answer them.she is a control freak
I like her. LOL.She was so good that I just went to class twice. I wonder How I managed to get a grade I wanted. LOL. Straightforward exams. Do not ask about her lectures I never went.
cool prof. i liked her. u don't have to show up for class if u don't want to. exams are pretty easy, just 10 questions and everything is covered in class.
She's ok, nice woman, kind of cute, and very intelligent. She really gets into her subject, and acts like she's in a debate(some student's interpret that as meanness). One complaint, for the class I took, she only covered trading and exchanges, but course description included FX and interest rates.
the easiest. no hw, no attendance. i attended couple of times and it was a nightmare. it's like she wanted to make u feel miserable, so i never went back and got A, because exams r easy.
She is the best!!!
Courtesy is combersome to those that know it not, with this said, watch the f#@$% out....
She is more about concepts and larger issues. No attendance, 10 question exams.
She is not very difficult if u r willing to pay attention for the hour and 20 mins of her class. Exams are fairly easy everything done in the class and only 10 questions...so u r out in 30 mins max......could be very rude at times though.
She was amazing. One of the best teachers on campus. HIGHLY SUGGEST TAKING HER CLASS!
Great professor b/c of the concepts I learned from her class, I was able to ace my interview with JPMorgan. She also was able to take time out of her busy day to give me a recommendation. For the students that had negative things to say, all I have to say is that if you can not handle her behavior, I wonder how you are going to handle the world.
Greatest class I took in the spring. Only two exams go toward ur grade. Know ur definitions, concepts, & do the homework. 10 question exams that are much easier than the homework. I finished the final in 15 min. Got an A in the class. Great professor, can go a little fast at times. Overall, gread course.
great professor, knows what she is talking about and teaches well! highly recommend
I didn't really like her teaching style because she covered broad topics that were too general in comparison to what she would test on. So you pretty much have to listen closely to what she says. The exams are 10 MC so watch out for the final!!
This is the easiest professor you could have in finance or related courses, she gives exams which she calls quizzams, 2 and the final which are 10 multiple choices questions, she drops the lowest of the two.
Great professor, but strict.
tests are very easy! she knows a lot and if you want, you can learn with her. but overall her teaching style is not very good ( for me at least). can be very rude and ****y. but at the end if you want an easy finance class and still learn something take her and follow her directions :)
I didn't like the way she taught. I barely went to class and just read the book and looked at the problems. Her exams are easy(if you understand the book) and given by her TA. She never goes to her exams.
Professor seems really intimidating at first, but is actually a really great professor. Make sure you read before class or else you'll get on her bad side. Read, study the problems in the book and use the answers in the manual, and show up to class and participate. If you do so, guaranteed A.
Prof. Ronen's class was a joke. The entire class cheated on every single exam and she has her clueless TA for nothing. She said she reads this site and that the dep. has told her to make the class tougher so maybe she will...better off taking someone else, learn something without the rude attitude. she has the book for nothing..
She tries so hard to make herself seem intimidating. Also, she misses so many classes so it just shows how she doesnt like teaching. dont believe her when she says there will be "pop quizzes" or harder exams bc the dean said so. EASY!!! AND USES THE SAME EXAM AS PRIOR SEMESTERS! everyone cheats for the exams bc she doesnt even show up for them! haha
Prof. Ronen is a great teacher! She realy cares about students learning someting in her class.
Very good teacher who cares about student learning the material. Never remember any cheating.
Warning: You WILL work hard in this class, If you are looking for an easy way to get an A, then this isn't the class for you. However, If you want to really learn about the world of finance, Tavy Ronen is the professor to teach it. I'm not even finance and i loved it. She is all "business" in the classroom and a VERY caring INTELLIGENT professor.
I had my first class with her, and it's soooo uncomfortable just being in the same room with her... i wish i didn't have to take finance this semester, because i have a very bad feeling about this one!
A nice lady, in a weird way, but if you think this is going to be a easy class your definetly in for a surprise.
Socratic method to stimulate critical thinking.Shes a financial genius. You learn that there is no shortcuts. I came to Rutgers for the challenge and to learn from the best.Ronen if your reading I learned that respect is not given its earned. Getting an A will be worth it.Even if i dont get it, you'll know who i am by the end of the sem.
This class is very hard, I had to work really hard, but is worth it, you will be challenged.
she is not a hard professor but she is not an easy professor either. the bottom line is; if u r passionate abt finance, U MUST TAKE HER CLASS, because fiance is her thing n no1 can truly teach it better than her. one of the best professor at rutgers!
Do not listen to reviews that say that it is impossible to get an A in this class. Do your reading, come to class, and PARTICIPATE!!! and you'll get at least a B. Exams are not easy but are not the only factor in the final grade. Miss a day in this class and you'll miss a LOT, so attendance is crucial, but not mandatory. She expects hard work.
She the reason I have continued to pursue a Finance degree. Her courseload pushes you to reach your full potential even if you can't get that A you hoped for. Great Professor, excellent person. You can learn a lot from her. I wish she taught all my classes this semester ! Ronen is a gift to Rutgers and has inspired me greatly. Thank you!
I was an econ major and took her class. As a result I stayed in college an extra semester just to take her more advanced course. She will make you work hard but, having started a successful business, every concept she taught was immediately applicable. A first in my college experience. The class is for those looking for success in the real world.
ATTENDANCE IS NOT MANDATORY BUT IF YOU DON'T GO, YOU WILL MISS A LOT!! READ, READ, READ, & READ BEFORE CLASS AND BE PREPARED TO ANSWER QUESTIONS. SHE TEACHES AS IF YOU ALREADY KNEW THE MATERIAL SO BE PREPARED.. HER TEST GET HARDER AS THE SEMESTER ENDS. GREAT CLASS & YOU'LL ENJOY IT IF YOU ARE PREPARED FOR CLASS...
Prof. Ronen is tough for sure! She will try to scare you out of the class the first couple class but thats just to see who really wants to learn. She will make you work for your grade but she will also explain things in a way that you are going to remember for the rest of your life. I'm an accounting major but want to make more classes with her!!
Ronen seems like a monster at the beginning but she's not so don't let that intimidate you. If you put in some studying, I think you will do fine in the course. Make sure your statistics skills are sharp as you dive right into the math. She's not bad but I wish I took someone who went out of their way to make the course easy.
She seems hard but she's cool and as long as you do decent in the exams you'll be good
She is amazing! She likes to push you but you will get an amazing knowledge of finance. I am taking her for every class I can. She is hard, and has a slightly crazy way of teaching but if you want to learn take her! You will not regret all of the knowledge you have especially in future finance classes.
she is super strict in the beginning but she is such and AMAZING professor, I have never learned so much from a professor!! LOVED THIS CLASS
Prof. Ronen is simply put incompetent at teaching. She is disorganized and has no practical knowledge of finance. Very rude and tries to be tough to hide her incompetency. Take another instructor but her for Finance. If you end up with her just know your stuff and that will scare her. Competence scares her.
This professor does teach, but is very rude. You have to attend class otherwise you'll miss a lot. She does care about her students, but tries to intimidate you at first. If you want an easy A take someone else.
Professor Ronen is a terrible teacher. If you know what you are doing the class isn't bad, but do not expect any help or clarification on anything. She is very disorganized and posts assignments late. I agree with other reviewers she doesn't like to be upstaged. If you disagree with her she will verbally berate you for giving your opinion.
I think she's the example of the many professors that forget that it us the students that are paying to be thought! We do not come into class knowing things nor do we come to learn on our own.
Took this class online, & it was the WORST experience. Extremely rude & condescending. Learned from reading the book, not from her. Puts questions on tests that are from future chapters in book. Posts assignments late and they are due immediately. So many assignments that you barely have time for other classes. THE WORST PROFESSOR EVER.
Finance as subject from book is easy to grab but learning from her is difficult. She makes it more confusing, rude over the emails. Never takes time to teach it correctly. Unnecessarily makes it hard. Posts her stuff late and expects you to be on toes 24/7 just for her course. Would not have much time for other courses of some personal time.
The professor is unwilling to work with students on issues that arise during the class. I would avoid taking any classes with her. I learned absolutely nothing from her Financial Management Class. She is extremely condescending and highly critical.
Worst online at rutgers. Very rude. She puts random videos of lectures which covers less than 10% of the syllabus and then you are on your own. She hardly responds to your emails and questions. Encourage you to participate in forums but no participation or answers from her. Ethically, she should not teach if she cannot spare time for the students.
She is the most amazing professor I've ever had. She pushes you to learn and challenge yourself while she helps guide you along the way. Take her!!!
Classes are heavy in theory.Need to know well topic before each class. 3 tests, Mid, Final. If practice from her exercise sheet, exams are easy
Do not take this professor. She wouldn't answer questions or give solutions to problems. Half hour office "hours" per week. Her online "lectures" only cover the simple basics. Harder material - you are on your own.
Looking at the other comments, I can tell that, in general, undergrads like her and grads DON'T. When she "stepped up" the difficulty for grad students,to her, that means "Don't do anything to help or teach them." I have NEVER recieved emails back, and we use the book website for lectures&grades. Students as a cash cow: RU should be ashamed.
Terrible teacher. Has the wrong attitude from day 1, doesn't teach nearly as much as or as throughly as she should, and is not looking out for the students. Difficult to get in touch with or get help from as well. A textbook case for why tenure should not exist.
She is not helpful at all. Worst professor ever! She is full of herself. Thinks everyone is a PHD student.
Ronen can come across as really tough and mean, but if you get to know her on an individual basis, she's extremely sweet and willing to work with you. One of her grad students grades her tests, so you get a bit of a boost there. BE PREPARED EVERY CLASS. If you aren't, she will throw a fit. Make sure you read and participate and you'll get an A.
She is very forgetful yet too sure of herself, misses class and is often late herself. She forgets what her own readings mention and what she assigned, yet will expect that you will have anticipated her forgetfulness and done the work anyway. She must have gone mad in recent years. Not an easy nor enlightening class. Any textbook will do better.
At first, Ronen may seem very intimidating and mean, but after the first few weeks she is fine. Her class might be challenging for people who do not prepare or study. If you come to class prepared and study for her exams, there is no reason you shouldn't get an A. I am 100% taking another class of hers because she makes the material fun.
Professor Ronen is THE MOST challenging professor I have ever taken. She made us work really hard, had to "be prepared" by reading material beforehand, do lots of problems and group study. Though hard, she gives you THE BEST understanding of Finance. Would recommend her if you're a Finance major! If not, take somebody easier.
Tavy is a good example of excellence. I repeat, an example. Finance is not Algebra. And Planet Earth is different from Finance. Meaning, the way to study changes. you follow? If you are prepared and participate, she subconsciously hands you valuable life gems. If you want to be shaped in a good way, take her. it takes friction to be shaped.
This Finance class was by far the most stressful course I've taken, but also rewarding. She will challenge you and make you work for it. Helpful hint from heloise, She is all about being prepared and knowing the material "Inside out, upside down, girl you turn me". You will probably dislike her at first, but you will not regret taking her course.
One of the most valuable, if not MOST valuable courses I've taken in grad school. Do the leg work, study hard to understand concepts, & you will walk away w/info you will benefit from for the rest of your life. Anyone complaining about tough grading needs to understand: if not happy w/your grade, you should have studied more. That's on you.
Incredibly rude. When asking a question makes the person asking feel stupid for asking. Completely unorganized and forgetful. Constantly late for class, if even bothered to show up. Clearly doesn't want to be there to teach. You're better off just learning directly from the book.
Tough but by far the best professor I've ever had. I walked out with an A but I worked for it. You will feel anxious, maybe you'll even cry. But you learn and you carry forward the information to other classes. If every professor pushed you as hard as she did and actually cared about you learning, everyone would be getting A's in all their classes.
She is every bit as terrible as her syllabus and first day of class will lead you to believe. She will warn you every single morning how hard her class is and how we are all going to fail. She then uses this as an excuse to be terrible. "I warned you i was terrible so now i'll be indiscriminately terrible!"
Run away from this professor. The WORST professor I have had in over 5 years of graduate level classes. Just RUN AWAY!! She teaches nothing, all of the material is old content she created once. If you send her an email to clarify, you will get an abusive response. She does NOTHING during the whole class , except a pre recorded video.
Honestly I walked into her class terrified, but she is an amazing professor. If you cannot handle hard professors dont take her. She clearly states her expectations from the beginning. She is knowledgeable of the material and she breaks it down so easy to understand. Show up to class, take notes, follow her syllabus & you can pass with a B or an A.
She is GREAT. I took her HYBRID course. A bit unorganized with posting videos and assignments, but don't be scared to email her about it. She is heedful and will sort it. A lot of self-study but doable. I learnt so much and her exams are easy if you know the concepts inside out. She is better than other professors, only if you are ready to learn
Junk, pure junk.
Forget about her as a teacher this women is rude and manipulating i hope she gets her karma
Take her! You will be scared everyday before class but you will learn a lot. If you're good at stats you'll do great. If you're not, you will still do well. Be prepared for every class and you'll be fine. 3 exams drops the lowest. easy hw. every exam has at least 1 question from the hw. cheat sheet allowed. You have to want to learn.
This is the worst prof I've ever had to deal with. Took her online finance course. A few things: (1) she'd yell at you when you ask a question ('you obviously didn't read lectures'). (2) Terrible at teaching. (3) She only covers basic stuff (maybe the only stuff she can comprehend herself) and asks hard questions presumably written by someone else.
I love her "MC Hammer" pants
Tavy "Statistics was a prerequisite for this course" Ronen.
I had her for her hybrid finance class. I suggest you take her if you want to master and remember everything in finance 101. She is definitely intimidating at first and has a smart mouth. You MUST follow her rules, but her way of teaching does implement all the concepts in your brain.
Professor Ronen, is once in a lifetime kind of professor. Her course materials are designed to test your brains out, and many won't make it through the end. But, whoever makes it learns a great deal, and I guarantee they will take the learning beyond classroom. I highly recommend her if you would like to build a strong foundation in Finance.
Little to no guidance, unstructured, incompetent. Thats how I would describe Ronen. Her videos and materials are usually 5-7 minute prerecorded videos that offer little instruction. Her examples to solutions are almost always incorrect or incomprehensible. She changes her class structure without warning. Should not be a teacher.
She's not the worst but absolutely not the best. She teachers Intro to Finance to her students like they've been doing it for years. Basically, she can't descend to our level and teach the concepts clearly. She's also very abusive if you ask her questions. You need thick skin in her office hours because she makes you feel dumb for even trying.
Professor Ronen has a hard cut class for Financial Management. There are a lot of formulas and at times some of the homework can be extremely difficult, but she builds a path for your success. If you are struggling I highly suggest reaching out for an appointment and she will help you right your ship. Also most importantly. USE THE TIMELINE.
Worst professor, no respect. If you ask questions at office hours she makes you feel dumb. Office hours are only once a week if you can't attend you won't know a lot of the information. Does not post lectures. Have to teach yourself everything from textbook. Picks favorites and grades student accordingly. High ego because she created MSBF program.
I personally learned a lot from this course and enjoyed the journey and curriculum. The lectures are well organized, especially her short videos explaining the core topics. I loved them. This was not an easy class. It demands a lot of commitment from you, but in the end, it paid off. I spent 10+ hours/week
Going into this course I was very nervous because of the ratings but it was the complete opposite. Professor Ronen is very kind and attentive. Yes, the material is complex, but most of it can be found online. The overall grade is made of 4 tests and a few lengthy discussion posts. If you can taker her online class, do it!
Ronen isn't nearly as bad as the reviews here say. Grading is not as transparent as I'd like it to be. The first exam was difficult, but she recognized that and she made an effort to make the following exams more fair. The class requires a lot of work if you don't have any prior experience with finance, but you get the grade you deserve.
I've never written a review before, but the past reviews are not entirely accurate. Professor is kind and caring. Her exams are based off the videos and practice questions. The discussion posts do require a bit of hard work but they are completely doable. All you have to do is review the material and practice.
Trust me take any other finance professor. I left the class and never came back.
My experience with Prof Ronen was different. To be honest, she's a good professor, she wants you to learn and pass her class. However, the course is indeed difficult, be ready to read a lot. All her exams require you to "show working" NO multiple choices. Also 70% (3 exams)
If you have a finance background, take her. If you do not, stay away.
this woman has absolutely no business in a classroom, especially not a graduate classroom and even more so a finance classroom. she has a chip on her shoulder and treats her students so disrespectfully. it's disgusting. i sent a letter to the dean about her and blind copied her bc it is that bad. avoid at all costs - you won't learn anything.
The most condescending, know-it-all professor I've ever had. She talks down to students and is incredibly rude. Office hours with her are unbearable. Take ANY other professor but her.
I consider myself thick skinned, and I'm a straight A student. She is the first class I've received below an A in. Speaks, grades, and acts as if her only joy is to fail students. If you ask anything you will be singled out and insulted. Typical academia-only professor with 0 work experience (old-money). Takes pride in being smarter than students.
