New teacher at Tech, took his Cultural Geography class and loved it. Typical lecture style class, but interesting material. Dr. Mack loves to joke around but doesn't tolerate any crap. Don't mess with his attendance sheet and don't you dare make him think you're misusing your laptop. I would definetely recommend him!
Awesome teacher but don't bs in his class, he can't stand bs. His test are exactly his powerpoints and he lectures the powerpoints. Highly recommend. Must study though but very easy if you try.
He is fair as long as you study his notes. You study and know the notes that he gives in class you should come out of that calss with no less than a B.
HE IS AN GREAT TEACHER AND I REALLY ENJOYED HIS CLASS, THERE IS NO TEXTBOOK, BUT YOU TO STUDY ALOT OF NOTES FROM POWER POINT.
Love him! Very easy A. He is interesting and makes you laugh. I am taking him again next quarter.
Took his Race/Ethnic relations. he's a good teacher. Just take notes and you will do well. Don't come to class late or you will get a wag of the finger.
Come to class (not late!) take notes (Don't sleep or play on your cell phone!) and you will do fine! Notes are almost always on power point, and tests follow notes!
I love him..easy. Corny but stimulates intrest in the subject. He makes me want to travel!!!
Easy class. He writes on the board the enitire class, minus a 5-10 minute break. But the test are EXACTLY from the notes. Take good notes and read them a couple times before the test and you will make an A. He tries to make class fun by telling funny stories, but these are failed attempts at best. Good guy though, very helpful and easy going.
He is pretty interesting. He doesnt use blackboard other than communication and posting grades. HE does not post power points or notes so you HAVE to go to class or have a good friend to take notes for u. His tests are super easy not alot of time needed to study for them.
great prof! Very interesting class! yes, you do have to do the work and you do have to go to class.........but isn't that what you are paying for?
easy class if you listen and study his power point lectures.....dont tick him off by being an idiot like reading a paper in class or listening to an I-pod. Freshmen ask for a beating in his class...Must take just for that reason, watching freshmen get creamed for being disrespectful. Easy A+
Dr. Mack is a good professor. His tests are a little tough but if you take notes and really study you can easily pull out an A in there. He is a pretty funny guy. Just make sure you go to class every time because he does take role and he doesn't post any notes to blackboard.
This guy is pretty dull. He comes across as an arogant smartass. Class is easy though. Just show up, take your notes, and ignore anything else this guy says.
Just come to class and take notes. Class seems easy, but few grades are given, so if you screw up once, its pretty much over. Don't expect him to help you out at all, he has no sympathy for anyone for any reason that I could find. Oh, and don't bs around in his class if you don't want you're own personal lecture in front of the class.
It is an easy class but he's just an ass. I do not think he is very prepared when he does his lectures. All his tests are based on his lectures so you must attend to get a decent grade or just be friends with someone with all the notes. He takes roll but it does not count against you. If you use a laptop do not sit in the front.
Really a good teacher take notes come to class and pay attention in class and you'll be alright
Dr. Mack is hilarious. Yes he's a smartass, but hes funny as hell. Didnt have a textbook, so you had to go to class to get the notes. He did say that there might be a textbook for spring quarter. Just pay attention, laugh at his stupid jokes, and show up on time and you're set. If I had to take any other geography, id take him again.
dr. mack = RULES RULES RULES. all he freaking cares about is being an **** and enforcing the honor code...sorry but this guy bores the culture out of culture
Such a sweetheart. If you are nice and joke with him, it will help you out in the end. Don't take his comments too seriously, he is just a smartass.
He is awesome and halarious!
Unfair, obnoxious.
Had him for Pop. Culture. Funny. Has really easy test. If you fail his class you weren't trying at all.
He goes by the rules and keeps order in his class, which I like. Extremely easy! I am taking my fifth different geography class with him. In the others (203, 205, 210, and 290) I've made 3 A's and 1 B. Show up. Take notes. You will pass. His class helped me in declaring geography as my minor and will go back to get my degree in it as well.
This professor does not care how he talks to students. He can be very mean and rude!!!!
He's funny, cool, and his class was so easy I literally passed with a 100. Didn't miss a single point on any exams.
Take him, but don't bother going to class. Get the notes from someone who's in it now or took it before - all the same. But seriously - don't go, so obnoxious to sit through his class, especially if it's not your first college class ever. oh my god.
He is a very easy teacher!!! Hate his accent! Don't be late because he will call you out on it. Don't let him see you on your phone either. Tests straight from his note. They are all on power point but he doesn't put them online. Go to class, study a little, and you shouldn't make less than a B. Taking him again in the Winter just for an easy A.
I love this guy! His tests are directly from the notes so if you just read over them a couple of times and attend class you will for sure make a good grade. Some people think he is rude but its just because he is professional and expects you to act like an adult. Definitely my favorite professor at Tech!
Sit up in class and dont use your phone. Hard to work with. No willingness to help. I had an issue with an online test, emailed him and couldnt come to a solution. Agreed to visit during office hours but waited 45 minutes and he never showed up. The next day he didnt know who i was or what i wanted even after extensive email correspondance.
his class was pretty easy the tests came straight from slides and he had interesting story and map quizzes on moodle were super easy i just used the study guide i would have made an a but i never studied
Don't buy the book. He bases his test off of his power points. HOWEVER- take his class with caution. He is a complete ass. I have never been so stressed out in a class before. He will call you out for everything. He is ridiculous! He is a know it all. He thinks he is sooooo important. And don't you dare refer to him as Mr. Mack. It's DR MACK!
His Cultural Geography class was interesting and easy--I was a little scared of him since I had read the reviews on here, but he wasn't bad. His rules make for an orderly class atmosphere. I did not have any need to interact with him in person, so I can't comment on how he is to work with if you have a problem.
Dr. Mack has and upholds very strict standards and expectations. Personally, I enjoyed them. Who enjoys a class atmosphere where everyone is rude and disrespectful? His tests are easy and his lectures aren't that boring. Just go to class, be quiet, take notes, and you'll do great!
He is a really easy teacher. Come to class on time and don't talk or he will start a rant about it. Go to every class and take notes. Test is straight from powerpoints. The quizzes are straight from the study guide that he provides for you. just fill it out and take the quiz. Not hard to get an A or B
This class is an easy A or B. Copy powerpoints in class and you should do fine. Quizzes come exactly from study guide. Do not talk in class or show up late. He will call you out if you do. He freaks out about that stuff.
Great Teacher. knows his material. have taken his class multiple times and have leaned every time. The way he acts the 1st day is not the way he acts the rest of the class if you follow the rules
Dr Mack's class is pretty straight-forward. Go to class, copy notes from the slides, test on the material. He's pretty strict about talking once class starts & can be rude, but it isn't bad. If you take Honors Geography, READ THE BOOK! He WILL randomly call on people and expect you to know the answer to whatever question he asks.
Not the worst class you could take. Excitement of the lectures varies from lecture to lecture. For the most part he keeps the discussions fun. You need the book. You take lots of notes but most of the test questions come from the book. If you utilize WileyPlus, the Self-Tests in the book, and review vocab you'll be on your way to an A.
If you show up on time, actually take notes and don't disrupt the class, you'll have a good time. Expect to see people getting verbally destroyed for not following said guidelines on a daily basis. Lets class out early if his lecture doesn't take up the whole period; in practice, this is every single day. Material is very easy stuff. 1010.
I don't know how he normally teaches, but for the most part I enjoyed his Honors class. He did expect us to read up on topics and know them in class, but his tests came straight from the notes and PowerPoints. The term paper was a drag, but he lets you pick whatever topic. He's funny but can be strict. Stay on his good side.
Funny guy, very dry humor. Tests are pretty easy, but the reading is a pain. He doesn't take any crap from students; don't make him mad.
Will not hesitate to verbally harass and embarrass any student who is late to class, sleeping during a lecture, or otherwise not following rules. DO NOT BE LATE TO CLASS! Lol. Lots of notes (about 4 pages per lecture) but tests are straight from the notes and not tricky at all. The dude has a dry, awkward sense of humor but is laughable.
Easy A, just don't show up late. If you come to class you'll have no problem. He is also hilarious, he cares a lot about material.
Very rude and in-your-face. Worst term paper but you can choose your own topic. Go to every class or you will get lost and he will roast you for skipping. Pretty easy class and easy tests. Beware the pink bunny rabbits in his tests.
Extremely disrectful and makes hurtful comments to and about students. Even the written instructions on his assignments are insulting. He is overly suspicious of people cheating. People are here to learn, not cheat. He doesn't have a sense of humor unless he's making jokes about pink bunny rabbits.
Very solid professor. He's kind of a pr1ck but he's like that on purpose. Just go to class, take notes, & you'll get an A. Definitely recommend GEOG205 for your IER.
Be sure to get the textbook, as he expects you to do the reading before class and will call on people randomly to ask about the reading. Tests are really easy if you come to class and take good notes. Term paper is kinda hard but you get to pick your own topic. He can be pretty rude but if you show up on time and answer his questions, you'll pass.
He can come across as hard & strict, but as long as you put in real effort to do good he will work with you. He is big about not wasting his time, so TAKE NOTES AND PAY ATTENTION! I had a really bad migraine in his class and he let me sit in his office till I could function again. This man is more than an amazing teacher, he is a wonderful person!
All lectures and test are literally word for word from the lectures. Super easy class, Dr. Mack has a awkward sense of humor but teaches very clearly.
Would 100% take him again. He cracks a lot of jokes and is hilarious if you pay attention. Grade is affected after you miss 5 classes but notes aren't on moodle so show up and take the notes becauase tests and quizzes are straight from them. Easy A if you take notes and study at least some. Isn't afraid to call you out for texting or sleeping.
The 4 quizzes are 5 questions open for 5 minutes. Study specifics for the 3 tests. E.g. grains, languages, religions (specifically their origins). Reading your notes after class helps! Don't be late or spill anything, he'll gripe! He's funny & nice. He let a girl bring a sick kitten to class on test day & it stayed up front with him! Pretty cool!
Great at teaching. A few pointers: do not get on your phone, walk in late, spill anything, ask questions, talk, or he will call you out. Other than that his exams are easy. He's very funny and keeps your attention. You must take notes to pass, out of class power point not available. Easy to find on Quizlet, easy A.
The standard class is a free and easy A as long as you go to class. If you take him for honors... don't. He rants about honors students being held to a higher standard and uses it as an excuse to slack off as a professor. Doesn't post notes or powerpoints to moodle. Seems to believe his opinion is more important than fact, and if you disagree, GL.
Do NOT take his geography of Louisiana class. He's way to upright and doesn't allow for any error likes he's a robot. Humor (if you can call it that) is VERY dry. I dreaded this class every time I went to it.
Dr. Mack is a well respected and amazing professor at Louisiana Tech. He not only presents the material in an easily retainable manner but spices it up with his unique sense of humor. Dr. Mack also has a plethora of knowledge at his disposal making any class you take with him a great experience
This class was online and super easy, so if that's all you care about, go for it. But Dr. Mack is one of the most unpleasant professors I have EVER come across. If you are confused by anything or have any questions, don't bother asking him because you'll get a passive aggressive answer. He berated us about following directions he didn't even post.
He comes off as a little scary at first, but he really only acts that way to keep order in his class. Dont go in late, talk during class, or get on your phone or he will call you out. Study your notes a LOT and you will be okay grade-wise.
Dr. Mack is definitely an acquired taste. He is very strict about coming to class late, sleeping, talking, phones, or basically anything that isn't sitting still and taking notes. He will not hesitate to single you out for it. Other than that, if you go to class and study you should do okay. No study guide for exams, so it's hard to study for.
Dr. Mack is a rough one. He can appear to be mean and hateful but once you get to know him he is really funny. Just show up on time and turn your phone off. The tests are so easy if you just read the notes from the lectures.
He was harsh but fair. If you acted up in class he'd put you in your place. He's slightly cynical but funny and enjoyable to listen to. Makes sure you know what is on the test and sets you up to succeed.
Show up to class and take notes. Don't act up and you'll pass. Tests aren't hard.
A little boring, but not really his fault because of the course material. Theres probably a more interesting humanity you could take.
He's tough to like in my opinion. Not my style. He kicks people out for coming in late or without materials, and generally seems to dislike being where he is. I prefer a teacher who is invested and interested in teaching and their students.
As long as you attend class and get the notes you will be fine and make an A. DON'T BE LATE. The lectures cover all information on quizzes and tests. He post study guides. All quizzes and tests are on Quizlet. The only reason I gave him a 4 is because the material can be very boring some days. Will be taking him next quarter for another course.
Dr. Mack is super easy, just take the notes and you will pass all the tests and quizzes. Dont stress if you miss a class, a lot of answers are on socratic
While he is very thorough as an instructor, Dr. Mack seems to believe that we are in high school and he can kick us out of the classes we pay for if he doesn't feel like we're paying enough attention. Furthermore, any student unlucky enough to log into class a few minutes late will not be allowed in class. He boasts that this is true in-person too.
The class is easy as long as you take notes and MAKE YOUR OWN QUIZLET you will ultimately make an A in the class. Do not be late so I wouldn't advise taking a class before him he will point you out in front of everyone. If you do something he does not like he will just kick you out of class. Almost every class its been one or two people kicked out.
I have taken a few of his courses, and they are all similar. It's difficult if you don't take note. He does not give the lecture slides unless you have an excusable absence. There are few graded assignments: 3 small quizzes and 3 exams. He will clown you in front of the class if you do not follow his policies and procedures. Over all, pretty good.
Dr. Mack is quite the specimen. He knows that his class is required for most students, so he doesn't force you to love geography. Even still, his class is not the not the easiest. The three exams are literally straight from the notes, and most of the time there are free questions that he gives away. The other map quizzes are easy as well.
Good guy with some interesting stories. Must've had a bad first half of the quarter I took him though, he was rough at first but eventually came around and turned out to be a pretty cool professor, even giving the whole class an A on the last quiz. Lecture heavy so take a lot of notes, and make sure you read them, study well and you'll get an A
Was a stickler for attendance, would close zoom join room after 3 minutes, lectures were alright, he would ramble a little bit.
He says he wants to treat you like adults but the tells the whole class that saying bless you after someone sneezes is distracting the whole class. He makes big deals out of little things then actually distracts the class. Also watch this video take notes or ill kick you out of class Water cycle video that is made for pre-k
Super easy if you sit down and be quiet and take the notes.
The guy can be an ass sometimes but the tests are very easy and just taking minimal notes will allow you to get an A.
He is very strict on attendance and he sets a lot of strict guidelines, but he is very straight to the point and gives great lectures.
not a very nice guy or lenient but his test are easy if you study the notes because the test questions are practically word for word from the notes
Constantly yelled at students during class for small things such as dropping water, and also made a bunch of borderline racist comments
not a good nice guy. rude when you are late
He is not a very nice person. Don't talk in class or anything try not to be seen. He may not be nice but he's a good teacher. His exams are all multiple choice and gives joke questions for easy points. Need to go to class and take the notes. Super easy!
Cultural geography: Every class is a lecture straight from slides. Exams are all straight from the notes: very straight forward. Advice: Don't talk or be late or he will embarrass you in front of the whole class.
Dr. Mack has a reputation for being strict, but I found that he was incredibly chill and easy to work with as long as you are respectful. He is super careful to point out things during lectures that will be on the exam, so definitely pay attention! I didn't have to pay for a textbook or any other materials which was a bonus.
Easy class. Take notes and pay attention and you'll be fine. The only projects are an annotated bibliography and a paper, which are given proper time to be able to do. Can say weird things sometimes, but that's just old men for ya.
If you can avoid taking his class I would do it to save my sanity. Is his class hard? no not material wise but his attitude is awful and he has to control every aspect of the class down to how he feels you should take notes and what seat you can sit in. He takes pride in saying he can fail students and is a bully in the form of a teacher.
I don't understand where these kinds of people get doctorates. He's full of himself, and he is extremely rude for no reason. If you just look like you might not be taking notes at any particular moment, he will probably stop the class to ridicule you (this isn't even a hypothetical, he has done this to at least five separate students in a few days.
Easy class, just show up and take notes. Dr. Mack is very controlling over his class so just follow the rules and make it easy on yourself.
I strongly disapprove of Professor Mack's teaching methods. Despite his emphasis on the significance of professionalism and maturity, he has failed to demonstrate those traits. It is imperative that he discontinues his teaching career and pursues a path more suited to his abilities, such as joining the military. He constantly yells at students.
He can be funny at times but he is very very rude. He yelled at someone for yawning too loud in class-said she was being f-ing disrespectful. He does give easy questions on his exams for easy points.
A manchild as a teacher would be the best way to describe Dr. Mack. He is so self-righteous about what he does that he has a meltdown and yells at students whenever they do something he doesn't like. Forget your notes? Get yelled at and kicked out of class. Trying to sit down when late? Same thing. Nothing is his fault and everything is your fault?
He's an awful man, but the class isn't that hard. He screams at students and is constantly condescending. You won't pass if you don't show up and take notes. Something had to happen to him to make him so bitter. Just try not to be seen and not to be late and you shouldn't get screamed at.
Horrible and degrading
It was an easy class; show up and write the notes from the PowerPoint. There are only a few quizzes and three tests, and everything is either from the study guide he gives you or in the notes you wrote. He will call you out if you are late, on your phone, or not writing.
Dr. Mack's GEOG 210 class was not overly hard or anything, you just have to study your notes a good bit. The map quizzes are easy if you study just a little bit; I actually enjoyed the map quizzes myself. Dr. Mack himself can be ill-mannered at times. Just show up, take your notes, and study them once a day and you'll be just fine.
Genuinely a terrible teacher and seems to really dislike students. He's very angry and seems eager to take any opportunity to hinder student success.
He was very rude and bitter towards his students. The class is extremely easy if you show up and take notes. All of the tests are multiple choice, but it was the only thing that was taken for a grade. Do not do anything that will get him to notice you because he will yell at you.
Worst professor at Tech. Avoid at all costs
He's a good teacher but is one of those professors that interrupts the whole class for some minuscule stuff that affected no one. Always be taking notes or he will try to humiliate you in class.
Dr. Mack is a really good professor. All the hate left on here is from students who may not be very responsible or have a hard time being quiet and respectful in class. His class is punctual, it's important to be on time. He has 3 exams and a few small, easy quizzes. Go to class and take the notes, thats EXACTLY what will be on the exams.
Mack will yell and call you out if you are not taking notes, talking during class, and have headphones in and can come off as rude but his class is very easy. As long as you show up and write down notes from the lecture, you will do well. His tests and quizzes are really easy and is exactly what is on the lectures.
will never take another class by him again. rudest teacher ever. no compassion. miss a class you failed.
Professor Mack laid out his instructions for this class very clearly day one. Nearly everybody complaining here were the people who were fussed at for not following these instructions. Even after numerous people getting in trouble for the same thing over and over again I would see people continue to do it. Follow his rules, take notes, get an A.
While the professor can be rough around the edges, his GEO205 class is straightforward. The exams are based on lecture notes, so staying engaged and using study aids like Unstuckstudy can help you succeed. Just be careful not to get on his bad side.
This man thinks he is lord on high of all things geography at Louisiana Tech. Get ready to be talked down to about how "this generation is ruining the world" and how no one will ever know more about Louisiana than him, a non-Louisianian. He is so uncaring and sees himself as God smiting the joy from college students. His only pro, easy tests
Look the majority of his reviews are true. He really does not seem to care about you on a personal level and does seem like he is just there to pull a pay check. However, if you pay attention to him and show up you will get a good grade. Overall, the tests are fairly easy and the paper at the end is difficult, but if you start it early you're ok.
He's the only geography teacher on campus so you're not gonna be able to avoid taking him if you need this credit. Just be aware that he can be extremely childish and regularly flies into tantrums over minor things, particularly if you're not taking notes.
Yes he is rude, but your grade is what matters. He gives map quizzes, they're online, easy 100% or 95%. The exams are based on lectures that you MUST take notes on because he does NOT post the slides. I always struggled with the exams, I didn't study a lot though, but still passed. Adds multiple easy questions like, choices A-C will say "choose D".
This class was a mix for me. Yes, it was very easy and I received a good grade, but Dr. Mack made it hard to enjoy the class atmosphere. He often ridiculed students in front of the whole class, stopping the entire lecture to do so. I wouldn't take his class again; I found it hard to want to be there.
You can't avoid him, so this is a heads-up. This class felt like such a fever dream; it's a miracle I made it through. Yes, Dr. Mack is very good at lecturing, but that's all he does, and some people do like that. He is very strict with attendance, and he will not give you notes if you miss. He also just does not care about anyone.
He's better online compared to in-person. The only problem I had was with writing the paper. He gives too many intrustions for it, and it feels like you brain is mushing together as you try to figure out how your suppose to write it in the way he wants it (outside the box, based on the lectures and the articles he gives you.)
make sure to show up to lectures, they matter! notes were easy to take and if I couldn't get them, i'd get them from a friend in class. tests and quizzes make up most of your grade, be sure to study for them
If you can avoid him, I would. He'd call out students in the middle of class & say they were distracting others when they weren't. Him stopping class to call them out was more distracting. He would often talk about himself during lectures, and it genuinely felt like a waste of a class. The material itself isn't difficult he just makes it miserable.
