He is a great teacher, but when he has caffiene, he talks really fast, and is hard to keep up with. His workload is kinda heavy for a 200level class, but he grades more than fairly.
Taylor was AWESOME! He really knows his stuff and his enthusiasm is contagious. i would definitly recommend the class to anyone, he took a potentially boring class and made it fun!
Was a pretty good instructor, definitely enjoyed this class. He's very fair and reasonable. He does talk fast but I guess when you have so little time to get info out, sometimes it has to be done.
you get used to the speed of the lectures at some point very passionate. keeps you intrested.
Great teacher. 1st rate lectures and the tests allways follwed the lectures to a T. I will take classes from him again. Chemeketa is lucky to have him.
Chemeketa needs more professor like Taylor. He is the most cutting edge teacher that Chemeketa has.
He is AWESOME... he keeps you thinking constantly, his class is eazy if you are willing to think and learn. Although, I do hate the article and book reviews he gives out.... but that is all the homework he really assigned that term... so i can't be too pissed. ;)

This guy is super cool. He really enjoys what he is teaching which makes you enjoy learning it. He likes to make you write papers but other than that his class is really easy.
he's good and i think if you want a good professor then take his class.. He's the****..
AWESOME. Cares about his students and what he teaches. Has really good discussions, and relates topics to modern day to keep things interesting. Really knows his stuff. TAKE HIS CLASS!!
One of the best professors on campus. He's respectful to students and their viewpoints. He relates each chapter to current times. Quizzes are online, so u can use your book and notes! Willing to help students with assignments so they can have the highest grade, u just need to contact him thru email or phone which he provides to you. very good!
Mr. Marrow was the best instructors that I had at CCC. He was very helpful and kept the classtime interesting with his knowledge. GREAT PERSON!!
Taylor is an awesome History teacher. If you hated history in high school, take a class from him and I guarantee it will change your mind. He doesn't just focus on what happened, he makes sure to talk about why it happened and why it matters today. I was originally torn between majors, but after Taylor's class, it was History for sure.
complete genius on the subject
Good instructor.Very easy, as long as you do your work.
He gets really excited in class which make him hard to understand. Easy class. Just do what he asks you to do. I'm taking one of his online classes right now.
I thought taylor was a great teacher, so helpful and incredibly passionate about any subject he teaches. Home work is very minimal and when he does give it, its at the most 4 pages. (and thats on the final)He grades on papers like a social studies teacher not an enlish. Anyway, great teacher and also very funny!
This man is very interested in the future of peace on earth. He is so interested that he doesn't see others views that are opposed to his own. VERY anti-Christian and anti-Isreal
OKay anyone who thinks he is anti anything is clearly not listening. If you do say something he disagrees with he will respect it. Anyways best teacher i ever had
He is really good at going off on topis that dont relate to the class at all. He did not even cover all the information that we were supposed to cover, and still expected us to know it for the final.
I took Marrow's 111 & 203 class. He is a good teacher and a nice guy. If you do not mind the occasional profanity, I would recommend this class. Everything is online and he gives helpful lectures
Took 110 and 111. Great prof! Loves what he does, very knowledgable. Brings up interesting & relevant parallels between what's going on today and what he's teaching in the lesson. Very understanding with students, and willing to help whenever he can.
I have only had two days of class and I already like History so much more than I ever have. He makes it interesting to listen to the same facts that I found extremely boring before.
Loved him as a teacher. He is very up beat and makes the class extremely fun.
Great instructor, helpful, clear, interesting, involved in on campus activities. Makes the subject much easier to listen to during a lecture.
Best teacher at CCC. I recomend that you take his class before you leave CCC.
Great instructor! He's really a great guy that genuinely wants you to succeed as a student. Taking this College Success class is the best thing that's ever happened to me at Chemeketa, he and Peter Starr are awesome duo instructors! TAKE THIS CLASS! No tests, just show up and do the journals, free class, cheap book, easy 2 units! You learn a lot!
the best teacher i ever had! and the most fun in a class..Taylor really made history come alive and interesting..if you need a history teacher i would take him over and over again
This class was terrible. Not only did you have to read copious amounts from a VERY DRY textbook, the content of this class was one-sided. It should have been called Black Power History... he was only interested in African American history, when the class was American History. African Americans weren't the only "interesting" ones in the 1900's-now!!
Maybe he's one of those teachers you have to work with in person. Online, though, it wasn't a good experience. While I learned a lot, I never knew what was due or how I'd done on assignments. No feedback, and he was constantly changing the class schedule with little warning, canceling tests and assignments just before they were due.
Acient civilization was a fun class. He is young, understandable, and exciting. I would say, and many others - dont leave chemeketa without taking a marrow history class. He would benefit from being a bit more organized though. class debates were fun and respectful. He also has a nice loud and clear voice!
Interesting person and good class structure. He did not provide a lot of info but also did not expect much homework. I feel like i was barely in this class, but did well anyway
I took his class online. He did not make it clear that certain assignments were due. he also was not willing to work with me at all. Maybe he is good in person but do NOT take an online class from him. I asked him questions and it took him over a week to get back to me, oftentimes after the assignment deadline had passed. He's awful.
I've taken a couple classes from this guy, and they are not terribly hard. My only real complaint is that the content of the class focuses mostly on black history, regardless of other things that may have happened during the time period.
Excellent instructor. Willing to work with any student WHO is willing to put forth the effort on their part. Was a little focused on African-American history and Civil Rights, but made it clear in his opening lecture that was his area expertise. Overall had a great experience in two of his classes and am looking forward to another.
So I have gone back and forth with how well he does at teaching. If you like discussion based classes, give this one a shot. His teaching style certainly isn't for everyone, and he is most certainly not always politically correct; but I think that I actually came away with a much greater understanding of the subject than I assumed I would.
Great prof. Love his classes.
Very loud and clear during lectures. He is a really awesome instructor who will work with you if you are WILLING to meet with him and work with him. Textbook is dry but his lectures are better. Focuses alot on Black history but doesn't neglect the rest. If you like different political views then most professors do then he is the one for you!
Awesome, down to earth teacher! I'm not a fan of History and I learned so much it changed my opinion of how I view society. Essay expectations are a little advanced but I still got an A. Also,YOU MUST READ YOUR TEXTBOOK TO PASS!Taylor is one of the best instructors I have ever had!
Great teacher, very passionate about what he teaches. I came away with a lot from his class, more than I expected.
Didn't love his online class... Wasn't horrible.
I really enjoyed his class and he has been one of the best instructors I've had at. You will love his class!!!
Great teacher, makes history fun. Good class discussions, he relates history to modern day & really makes you think. He doesn't cover every tiny thing in the lectures so you will need to use his study guides and read the boring book to do well on the tests. The quizes are easy and the class was fun. Would recommend him for ANY history class
Good teacher. He was fun and you could tell he loves history. BUT he messes up grades a lot. He said extra credit was out of 10 points, and never dropped the lowest quiz like the syllabus said. Good teacher, just watch for that!
He is great. He is super funny and always helpful. He is always available if you need help. I loved the class and his humor throughout made the 2 hours fly by.
Amazing teacher. I can't speak for his online classes, but if you are having troubles with his class go ahead and talk with him after - highly approachable and understanding!
This guy is an awesome instructor. He is great at depicting historical events and tying them into current and previous societal and cultural phenomena. Do not expect political correctness in class, he shows you his opinion and is upfront with it. He is extremely knowledgeable on Afro-Amer & World War studies; his specialties. A very passionate guy.
Didn't teach at all. Everything was read in the books. Expected way more than what was taught and he was extremely pompous. Not fair while grading either. If you have different views or ideas, you're wrong and he'll target you.
Amazing teacher with high energy and loves to communicate with the students.
Taylor is an amazing teacher! How much he loves teaching is shown in his lectures. If you are a passionate person than you will love his teaching style. I would highly recommend his classes, very interesting guy for sure and willing to work with you if you just communicate with him
I heard a lot of great things about this teacher, which is why I took his class online. However, I did not enjoy the class at all. Almost no interaction, just read the book and write answers to the questions, take the tests. I'm sure he's a great teacher, just make sure to take his class on campus.
Taylor is an alright teacher. He's really funny and explains history in a way i've never looked at before. Unfortunately I didn't find him very approachable. He was very loud and intimidating and if he thought your question was dumb or unnecessary he would definitely let you know. Tests are online therefore open internet, book and notes.
I have taken two classes with Taylor and wish he taught more than history! He gives you the tools to make passing his class very easy, his lectures are engaging and he finds ways to really draw your attention. He is very personable and is there to help out side of class in any way he can. I would highly recommend a class with him.
Taylor is great and i have taken all of the classes that he teaches. His tests are online and go over the book but i never read the textbook and still got an A he has a lot of experience and is very inspirational and you will never be bored in his class. I 200% would recomend
Start your essay early! He is a little unclear with his expectations. He takes responsibility if his mistakes cause misunderstanding missed points. I wish he had more than just two video lectures. Read the book, take the tests, participate in the discussion board, write the essay, pass the class.
Not too helpful when it comes to homework, sometimes he just didn't respond to emails at all. His syllabus could have been organized better, not very clear about what was expected. Not a difficult class, I still got an A because I read the books and came to class, but wouldn't take again. He also expects students to agree with all his opinions.
The syllabus and expectations were very unorganized and hard to follow when it comes to assignments and due dates. It takes longer than 24 hours for Taylor to respond to emails, so plan ahead on reading and homework if you have questions. He is a very hard grader, so my best advice is to stay on top of the reading and start the research log early.
I didn't feel he was helpful at all when you emailed him with a question, and when he responded he was defensive and vague. The comments he left on assignments were short and blunt, he doesn't come across as a nice guy.
This teacher is the best!! His lectures are so interesting and gives me different persepectives on history that I never have thought about! He likes to help students when he can. If you have chance I recommend taking his class!
I have taken 5 of Taylor's classes and they are always interesting and fun!! I love group discussions in this class, people always have interesting things to say! If you love history, take his class or if you need easy A for your credit requirement for your degree, take it!
I took HST 203 with Taylor in person. He is hilarious, knows a ton about history, and throws in group discussions to break up the lectures. You aren't graded on attendance, but show up to class, because there are graded reading quizzes and discussions. Tests are easy (all online, besides the reading quizzes) and just read the text. You'll pass!
Excellent teacher. Power points were interesting. Just make sure you attend class for those quizzes. Test answers are all in the book.
While Taylor is very attractive, it is not the best thin about taking this class. It isn't the easiest class I have ever taken, yet if you read what you are assigned (which can be lengthy) you will pass. Taylor focuses a lot on race relations, as well as women in history, which for me, as well as my major, is important. Take this class.
The guy is a genius when it comes to teaching history. The only teacher ive seen who can capture the attention of the whole class
I hated learning about history before I took this class. Lectures are informative and interesting; he throws in current topics and funny personal stories. Exams were all online and weren't difficult as long as you did the reading. Go to class because there's reading quizzes & group discussions, he usually warns the class, or week before though.
First week of the term and I'm already planning to drop his class. He asks you to write a 400 page intro and 75 word replies to other students. His final is 800-1,200 words! It's not MLA so if that's all you know definitely avoid his class. Basically his class is a whole lot of work for just 4 credits. Don't take him unless you want to struggle.
I took this class online. I have a 3.8 GPA & saw he had decent ratings over all the other teachers, so I took him. He is NOT clear on what he wants with his discussions or long term paper. I would submit my discussion every week but never got full credit and would never tell me why. 3 tests that're not difficult, they're mult. choice and 1 essay.
Taylor's classes are amazing! His classes are very intersting and informative! If you read your textbook and show up for class, you will do fine! Some reviews says that he is tough grader but I don't think so. If you follow instructions, you will do fine!
Taylor is passionate about history and isn't afraid to delve into it. His lectures are engaging and taught me a lot more than just history. His reading quizzes/group discussions weren't hard, but still made me think. His quizzes, given online, were relatively easy (so long as you did the reading). All in all, excellent professor and great teacher.
I took this class in summer term, but it wasn't as hectic as I had been led to believe summer classes would be. He was a great professor, and he really made the class fun. The only bad thing was the tests, which were online. They were put together kind of badly, and some questions were confusing or repeated. Other than that, I recommend this prof!
Taylor was awesomem passionate, great lectures and discussions with classmates. You MUST read read read in his class. Did weekly T/F quizzes based on readin, not too hard. Tests were moderate and assignments always well explained and Taylor ecourages to ask questions/ask him for help. Overll learned a lot and was a great class and professor.
Taylor makes me want to major in history just so I can keep taking his classes. Fun, informative, and inviting. I've taken 4-5 classes from him and loved every one. You have to go to class though, he does 5 point quizzes and group readings in class but usually lets you know the class period before that they are coming up. You won't regret!
He seemed like an alright guy up until I received my grade and his comments back on my final term paper. I re-read it several times to make sure I knew what was being said because I couldn't believe a college instructor would actually talk down to one of their students to that extent. Overall, I didn't have an enjoyable time in his online HST 203.
I love history but would not take a class from him again. I found him to be a little demeaning and unapproachable. I'm surprised that he has such a high rating. He expects a lot from his students, I get that, however, he should be a little less rude in his comments to students. -Enjoyed the assignments but not the teacher.
He seems really passionate about History but comes across as super arrogant, dismissive, unapproachable (he encourages students to call but not friendly to speak to at all), super unorganized structure online and really difficult to sort out what information posted is actually applicable.
Tough grader. Interesting discussions.
If you already know your history, his classes are plenty easy. Highly personable, get ready to laugh during lectures. Be sure to read the book. Also, he does provide info on his grading criteria for the term paper and if you ask him. He can be intimidating because of his passion for history, and is hard to email, but talk with him just the same.
I have never been so stressed out about a class like this one. There are weekly discussions and those are easy as long as you do the work. Also, there are tests that somewhat relate to the book and powerpoints, but believe it or not, received C's on tests even though I did all the reading and watched all the powerpoints. Very strict grader. Avoid!!
First online course. Not bad. Just felt a little disconnected not meeting face to face. Not too much work. Theres plenty of time for all of your work if you dont procrastinate/manage time well. Study before tests! Follow directions!
Ridiculous. Tough grader, way too much homework for a 4 credit hour class, and just plain rude at times. Arrogant, instructions on term paper unclear. Really don't understand his high rating. Avoid his class!!!
Taylor is passionate about history which makes learning easier. Read the book and pay attention in class. His tests are open book/open note but, print off his specific study guides for the test and you are guaranteed an A on the exam. His instructions are clear and the homework & graded discussion are easy.
Great instructor. He really made learning history fun. This is one of my most memorable instructors. The thing is you have to show that you really want to learn and that you are try to put in work. This is not a show up and get an A class. He expects you to work for it, but this is by no means a difficult class if you do your part. Thumbs up class!
This proffesor did not test on anything he discussed in lecture videos or what the group discussions online were about. He mainly focused on Native Americans in all group discussions then proceeded to test the class on things that have not been covered at all. Only way to know whats going on is if you read the book cover to cover several times.
I found Marrow's lectures to be very underprepared and unrelated to what he tested on. Online materials had conflicting expectations as far as grading criteria. The total class was only out of 275 points, his test questions were very subjective, and typos frequently made his meaning unclear. Do NOT recommend, lots of unnecessary headaches.
Taylor's lectures are very erratic at times but overall have a lot of depth to them. Even though they do go on they are interesting pay attention to. The stuff he tests you on is exactly what's in the book or on the power points, there are no misguided answers. He does care about your progress and shows interest in you so pretty good teacher.
Taylor is a super awesome guy. Lots of great stories. However, he likes to go into depth on the topics he's passionate about and sort of give an overview on the others. There's reading quizzes every week, a research paper worth 25 points due at the end of the term, and weekly group discussions. I highly recommend taking his class.
Taylor was a good teacher and I was surprised by his hilarious and awesome personality! He did very well with the lectures and the talks he encouraged went very well and were very collected. He helped with understanding of assignments and also helped with the topic papers he assigned. Not very hard teacher but you do need to pay attention in class
I loved Taylor's class! I took History with him online and he has good structure and you always know what is expected of you. The work wasnt easy but definitely challenging in a fun way.
I was in his online HST201 class and personally I find him very unapproachable when I ask questions and feel that he expects perfection and nothing less. I would say take him if you like a tough teacher and a lot of note taking, but don't expect a fun or super caring professor. His lectures are not related to the content in the study guide.
Taylor is a good professor and he seems very knowledgable about History, with that being said there is a lot of work per week, usually 1 to 2 chapters of reading along with the study guide, powerpoint presentation, etc. There is also a weekly discussion that has little to no correlation with the topics that are on the test and they are very long.
Taylor was an amazing teacher, to my surprise. The first week scared me but then I opened up to him. He was an awesome teacher who helped me with my problems with papers and assignments for the class. He helped with my problems of understanding different topics. His stories are funny. He is not very difficult at all provided you engage in the class
Firm but fair essay grader. Respectable, professional, available to help even through online course. I recommend him to anyone, in my experience with HIS104. Youll learn something new. Chemeketa needs to hold on tight to Marrow. Thanks Taylor Marrow.
Instructor Marrow's class is time-consuming because of the heavy workload, but he does give a chance for extra credit. If you do your best to schedule a time for it all, you'll do fine. Also, when in doubt about anything in his class, do not hesitate to contact him. He was very prompt and friendly in his email response that I got. I learned a lot.
I found that professor Marrow's lectures were NOTHING like what the tests were on. There are 3 large tests during the term and not a lot of room for missing points on them. He's a strict grader and expects you to know every little detail. Kind of a rude guy. Won't be taking again.... I'd avoid.
He posts hour long lectures on his page all the time. There's so much material to cover, and even then you're still expected to know every little thing. Personally, I didn't have a great time. Another thing to note is to not tab out on a test, even if your book is online. He threatened to fail me when I used my online book, even when allowed
I took Mr. Marrow last year over the summer for my history 104 class and this year for history 201. He has usually 7 discussion questions over an article each week that needs replys so its manageable. Just stay keep up with the readings and doing his study guides. After the first test he releases the essay questions before the test Tough but fair
Marrow was an amazing teacher. His teaching style is very entertaining, and he's pretty funny at times. He likes to yell a lot, and really enjoys when people speak up in class. There are 3 tests, which you take online, and about 7 weekly group discussion papers, which can sometimes be a hassle. He's a 4/5 because he's super strict on wearing a mask
Professor Marrow, from what I saw, is an awesome teacher. I decided to not complete his course due to the 'heavy' (to some it may not be) course load. 1) his tests and quizzes are browser locked 2) discussions are a minimum of 700+ words, if not 1000+ 3) tests are 40 true or false qs plus an essay.
Online course. Had 7 discussions 3 tests 1 paper. Tests have 1 essay and 25 multiple choice 80 minutes to complete and notes are allowed. his tests are nearly impossible. The amount of info he wants in the essay could take the whole 80 minutes. Class avg. on the tests sits at 61%. teacher problem not a student problem. Do not take this course.
Dont take this class The professor has way to high expectations and unrealistic discussions that are due every week.
Yes, this professor is HARD. Yes, you are expected to learn. Test comes from book while discussions come from online information that's assigned but you can use notes and open book for test. Lets be real- this is college and nothing should be handed to you. I was fairly scored with clear expectations. This professor I highly recommend!!
Unrealistic expectations. Extremely strict grader. Would not take this again. Acts like we all are history majors. Worst teacher I have taken at Chemeketa.
Learned a lot from his class.
Wonderful instructor. Teaches about systemic racism throughout history. Very knowledgeable and gives you the knowledge you need to educate others throughout life.
I was struggling in this class and when we set up a zoom to set up a plan for me I was told the class is a lot of work and I won't be able to catch up. No plan was talked about because I was told to drop the class because I wouldn't be able to do it all.
I was graded down because my works cited page was not indented properly. It's not a terrible course just too hard for the class level.
You need to engage in this class and actually study in order to pass exams, but if you can commit to that you get to experience the fun part which is Taylor's lectures and way of presenting information that is quite captivating. The class follows the pace of a four year school and is good for people who want higher standards of education.
This professor made me dislike history. Way too harsh on grading -- being a few words under the discussion word count caused a 33% loss on an assignment. Requires ~600 words per discussion. Two essays of 800 - 1300 words at the end. Lectures are death by PowerPoint and he doesn't even cover everything on the quiz. Awful.
Tough grader. Strict/picky. Time consuming.
Taylor has a good personality. Very harsh grader. Failed both essay questions bc there was a word count and I couldn't express my thoughts fully. Lots of reading and notes are hard to follow, lecture vids are long. Be ready to watch lots of history videos and answer long questions about them. Discussion replies/comments have word count every week.
I felt like he cared more about the logistic of the assignments and not what was engaging or what I was learning in the classroom. Every test or discussion forum was basically just rewriting information from resources. That doesn't really show any comprehension, just shows copy and paste.
Lots of long discussion posts and he grades them very harshly. He doesn't do any real teaching, it is only textbook reading and reading powerpoints. Tests are long and questions are based on random specific details. Also his canvas class is weirdly organized and is often confusing. All of the work for the class feels like a waste of time.
Tests are very long and extremely hard because they all require memorizing tiny details. Tests are one hour for 40 questions which seems fine until you have to find a tiny detail through multiple large sources. 0/10, do not recommend this class.
Teacher doesnt really lecture and just throws sources to be read and expects them memorized. Also his canvas class is set up in an odd and confusing way.
Rude and does not teach the class. Just posts things then grades very harshly. Do not recommend.
Tough grading and the tests are very long and difficult. Reading is also long and tedious. I found it to be a boring class that didn't end up teaching me much.
Overall he is a pretty standard teacher nothing crazy good or bad. The one big thing that I will say is he does not mess around with in-text citations. Any writing you do will be heavily graded on in-text citations that he gives you. If you make sure to focus on that when you are writing the tests are pretty easy.
Challenging yet rewarding course. Managed the workload with unstuck study and the textbook. Tests were difficult but fair - stay on top of the readings and discussions. Would take again.
This class is honestly very interesting and fun. Sure it was difficult but it actually taught me how write better which if you looking to actually learn in college I would definitely recommend taking this class. Great teacher and funny as well! Try your best and follow the assignment guidelines and you will pass the class.
I'm coming back two years later to retroactively give this professor a bad rating I disliked him so much. His grading was inappropriately harsh, complete disregard for personal life and health, and will expect you to take the class as seriously as if it's your major. If you get feelings hurt easy-RUN.
Discussions every week were inconsistent with the topics covered in the modules. You are also required to purchase a book he had published, as it is on the exams.
