very easy... need some credits take any of his classes
he's great. easy and funny. strongly recommend.
He barely did any teaching. Most time spent on sudnets presentations. I personally didn't learn much. Way to much work for an elective.
Very nice, fair, and helpful. A lot of text reading, but you can get by without doing most of them.
I would never take a capstone course with this guy!! Trust me!!
Interesting course and pretty easy. He is really interested in Latin American culture which shows in his teaching and makes the course fun. Take this class!
Lots of reading but he's a nice guy and makes the class interesting
Professor Henken is a very nice guy. He's funny at times and is very helpful. Pay close attention to the class when taking the capstone course with him. A LOT OF READING!!! Test are in the middle. If you do the textbook reading you'll be fine.
A ton of reading. Tests are easy if you pay attention and understand the material. He is interesting and I enjoyed the class. A ton of work, 1 paper, 2 presentations, 3 tests. Yet interesting.
Lots of reading but accepts a different point of view so long as you back it up with more than 'I think so'. Always willing to help a student excel whether it's helping you learn to research better or forwarding pertinent information he has that may help.
nice guy..gives alot alot of reading, but you can get by without it..doing well in his class is easier than you think
Class is interesting, you won't feel like sleeping through it, there are some movie clips and interesting readings, fair tests, one of the best teachers I've had so far.
One of the best teachers in Baruch. So nice and helpful. Very interesting and soo cute!!! He really teaches well compared to the other sociology teachers. Really do take him. You'll love the class and you'll meet such a great professor and amazing person
THE BEST! Nice guy, sooooo understanding!!! lots of reading, but u dont have to read it all, just make sure u know the stuff for the tests. Fair and easy grader and also gives extra credit.
great guy who really knows how to get through to his students..........great all around teacher
VERY helpful, just ask for help and he'll definitley help.We had a midterm, final and 2 projects,1individual,1group.The tests arent hard.He knows what he is teaching and you will learn in his class.Very nice, lively and fun.I really enjoyed his class and of course looking at his pretty face too...LOL.
he is a very cool professor.his class is enjoyable.there is a lot of reading though. other than that, the class was a breeze. i got an A, and i only studied like 2 days before exams.
He's a cool teacher. Offers very clear explanations.
Professor Ted is the man. He's really chill and he tells interesting stories about his travels in Mexico. He'll also make you interested in the subject if you weren't before. Definitely take him if sociology is something you need or want to take. His quizes are easy and his tests are average.
Overall, I think his class is very interesting. He use examples by connecting Sociology to real life. There's a lot of reading to do in his class, but I like to read, so it doesn't matter to me. I think if you work hard you will deserve a good grade.
He is nice teacher and his lecture is very interesting. You will learn a lot from his class. He make sociology so interesting. His example is very interesting. He is the best teacher I have ever seen in my life.
This Professor is great. He understands his students and makes class a breeze. If you were never interrested in the topic, you will be with this Professor. Over all great guy, but lots of reading. Take him, you will love his class!!!!
He is a very cool professor; very helpful and fun.. He makes the class interesting making the shiest person comfortable enough to participate. His ideas flow smoothly and makes us able to learn quiker.. It was a great experience learning with him... =-) YOU WILL LEARN REALLY FAST AND ALOT WITH HIM!!
Pr. Henken is very intelligent and nice. He does teach you in class and does everything for you to learn. I just hated everything we had to read, especially the textbook. It is so long and so boring. Anyway, it does not apply to the professor because I think he is superb. I can only use superlatives
boring topic. Nice guy, good teacher. Annoying homework biweekly on blackboard (4 times.) pretty hard midterm and final. not the hardest teacher in school- well educated and informative class.
Trully a great Professor, knows what He wants. If you will understand what He expect in "EACH PAPER" you will do just fine.Take His class, you wont be disappointed. He is one of the best people to be around. Shows up to class everyday. Teaches very loosely, relying more on real-world cases.
Not a bad teacher, lots joke inside his head. Sometime he will talk about your cloth, if you wear better than him. But.........a nice guy, willing to help.
he is a very nice professor .
Great professor. If he taught more classes in Baruch, I would take them all.

He is a good professor but does expect you to work. There were 4, 4 pg papers that compared and contrasted different readings. Then there was a group paper and presentation. Then his famous take home final! If you are an immigrant or child of one take this class because you'll learn about yourself. I do agree henken has a Cuban and Dominican fetish
great profeessor. four 4 pg papers, group project/presentation, take home final(easy) ,and website. You'll come out knowing more about immigration then u'd ever want to. Only negative is that he assigns a rediculous amount of reading 100-150pgs a wk) but he doesnt test that u actually read it, so most just throw up their hands and dont. work for A-
Very cool guy but also very sensitive and can be quite moody. You must take stellar notes to pass and he makes you read ALOT. Even though I did not read some of the material and still got an A. His review sheets are very helpful. Midterm, Final, and about 3 or 4 Quizzes
Great professor. Just do the work he assigns, and you'll be well on your way to an A.
Professor Henkins is a great teacher, he teachs quite a little in class but those are the most important to focus on when his test comes around. Sure theres alot of reading, its not his fault that the book is 30 pages long for each chapter. But overall,he makes sociology his life and he makes it fun
this prof makes class fun and interesting. he does have ALOT of reading assignments every week. as long as you do what is asked he is willing to help u with other things.
He it the best teacher ever. Even though he gives way too much reading the class isn't hard at all. Keep up wit the reading n u'll be good. I would recommend him his is the coolest teacher and he is cutelol.
Great professor! Gives alot of reading but the class is easy... guaranteed! A paper, 2 presentations and no final! It is a very interesting class if you are in to hispanics. I am glad I took the class. It really boosted my grade.
Gives a lotttt of reading but class super interesting!!! Keep up with the chapters and you'll be fine. Two papers but not to hard. The class is extremely interesting and you learn a lot. Fair grader
I have to admit, this was the most demanding course I've ever had in my three years at Baruch. He is a great professor and very cultured. If you want to learn more about yourself and about the world, take him. If you want an easy A, you're going to suffer severely.
HE's awsome...really looks out for his students...put in some work and you'll get at least a B+
Professor Henken is great. Although he gives hard tests (5 choice MC), he gives you chances by gving excredit out. The class is very interesting, I enjoyed it a lot.
This class and sociology in general is a breeze. Don't even have to show up: just get a friend to sign in for you. If you read the textbook thoroughly, his tests are easy. Just straight multiple choice and a couple of short answers. Lenghty readings but Henken is laid back and he will crack a few jokes ocassionally.
He is a good professor, but the material is very boring. You have to read a lot in this class, and work hard to get a good grade. He gives you great review sheets before the tests.
Great professor. Very easy going, friendly, and helpful. 50 question tests, multiple choice with 2 definitions. Sometimes the test is tricky but for the most part if you've read the book, you're good to go. He gives extra credit and he's very funny. Definitely a must have! I got an A.
Hes a really good teacher...the work can be a bit much but if you put in the time you'll get an A, he gives a MIDTERM, FINAL, AND 3 quizzes and a final paper, but its not that bad. ANd hes very helpful. I recommend him, he made the class really interesting. I got an A, and I was expecting an A-.
His classes are VERY interesting and so are the reading assignments. He gives you a lot to read but they're so interesting, it's a breeze and you actually remember what you read for quizzes/exams. Do your readings and it's an easy A! FYI Girls - He's cute. ;)
Great teacher and a real nice guy. would definitely take another course taught by him. a lot of material but nonetheless very interesting.
Easy going professor. Interesting and helpful. However lots of reading. Just do the reading and you'll be fine.
Great prof, wish I had taken more courses with him before...really eager to help his students learn and overall nice guy, take him!
I recomend this professor. He is very interesting both physically and intellectually. I enjoyed the class because it adresses historical and contemporary issues. One of the best professors at baruch.
One of, if not the best professor I will ever have...do the work and you will come out a different person
Loved Prof. Henken. attendance is mandatory, 3 term papers (not hard, summary of different reading), final take home exam, lots of EXTRA CREDIT!! Some films can be boring but I enjoyed most of them. Just participate a little and hand in your papers ON TIME. He takes points of if paper is handed in late. I definitely recommend him, best Soc professo
Great teacher but you definitely have to do your work. He takes attendance every classes(5% of your grades) and expect you to participate(5%). 3 papers and 2 group presentations as well as a take home exam. I learned a lot in his class. Stuff I am actually gonna use!!
This professor is great, he is very interesting and all his final is a take home and three papers. The material he uses is enjoyable and relatable. He is very knowledgeable and i would recommend this professor. He is the best!
Professor Henken is an excellent professor in the sociology department. He has a vast knowledge of the origin of race and ethnic notion mainly in Latin America.
His class was awesome. I learned a great deal on Cuban music and cinema. He engages the class and has depth of knowledge on Cuba. He makes me want to learn more on Cuba. His exam was not that bad but one definitely has to study. The class was 2 presentations, a midterm and take home final. It was not too bad but its important to attend every class.
Second time I've had a class with him. An excellent professor. This was the class on Cuba. I went in knowing little about Cuba and left with a sincere interest in the country and culture. An enjoyable class but also required a lot of hard work and attention. Must attend every class. Highly recommended!
He is a great professor !!! I thought the course content was extremely engaging. I came in to the first day of class knowing only 2 things about Cuba: 1. there communist and 2. we dont like Fidel - but I left the course with a whole new perception of its past and its sometimes depressing history.... exremely interesting class especially the movies
he is a great teacher, full of p****ion and knowledge for his subject.very helpful, very handsome, very pleasant. pay attention, write good notes, and participate and you will get a good grade. tests are easy as long as you pay attention in cl****es.i didnt study for the final, but paying attention in cl**** got me a B+ overall. take him!
Very interesting. Take him.
can this man get any more amazing. i think not.
He is one of the most OVERRATED professors here. He is NOT as great as people describe him. He is EXTREMELY boring and reads the textbook aloud in class as if we care, and this is what he calls teaching? OH LORD! He assigns TOO many things, and never focuses on any of them. So all of his assignments are tedious busy-work. I would stay away!
I don't agree with the last comment. He is amazing! Insightful, bright and well prepared. He makes it seem as if he gives too much readings, but the truth is he is very well organized since he makes it clear that NOT all has to be read.Everything in his class is connected and makes complete sense, in the end... once you see the whole picture!
Very easy class, interesting professor, very easy grader. Just show some interest in the subject and study for his tests (which are not hard) and u will def. get an A! :)
Hands down the BEST professor I've ever had at Baruch. He's smart, cares for his students, and loves his job.Yes, he assigns many readings, but this is college... HELLO!!! That's what your're suppose to do. By all means TAKE HIM!!!
BEST professor ever!!!! YES he gives tons of readings, but the class is interesting . 2 quizes, 1 paper and a final take home test. cant get any better! WAIT~ yes it can!!! HE'S HOTTTTTTTT !
He's hot and nice
can he be any better??? i dont think so!!! he's very enthusiastic and keeps the class up. YES, he gives a lot of reading, but most of them are interesting. besides, he's very good looking.
Attendance is mandatory-he passes around a sheet. This is a great class, as he is very enthusiastic. He gives a possible NINE extra credit points(so you can go from an 84 to a 93, thats a B to an A)earned by writing easy 1-2 page critical summaries of various hispanic events taking place throughout the semester. 2 quizzes, one paper, take home final
A brilliant professor, very clear and helpful. Readings are quite a lot, this is a social study course. He has the talant to keep the class interested in the material, so you won't be bored. Take him if you want to learn and get a good grade too. Thanks.
He's a great prof. He's Dr. in his field. When I started the class, I felt it would be easy way, but getting hard for non S****hes. 2 quizes, 1 essay or 1 quize, 1 research paper and take home final. some extra credit; you be careful your gramar skill when you do any writing. however, he is a really really good for you.
He's picky.
Is a hard class to get an A. You have to work hard, memorize the book word by word because his tests are all going to be based on trivial things from the book. Fortunately there's things he repeats enough you'll remember. His papers are tedious, and aggravating. He's very picky. Def NO easy A. He might get on your nerves with all he asks!!!
Prof. Henken is amazing. He's a true scholar, and a professor who definitely goes the extra mile to teach his students. He actually danced salsa (very well I must say!) and brought musical instruments to class. He's not an "easy A" professor, though if this is what you're looking for I feel really sorry for you. (Oh, he's pretty darn cute too!)
He's engaging and open to discussion. Assignments are new and different, yet graded fairly. No tests- several papers. From what I've heard this is a great capstone course. Others make you do research, whilst he focuses on Blogging and Malcolm Gladwell. Highly recommended. He likes it if you often change your hair : )
A lot of reading but it is one of the best class I took in Baruch I learned a lot from him. I will definitely recommend him.
Hanken is one of the best sociology professors at Baruch. The guy knows his stuff! He makes each topic interesting and relevant to students. He's not an easy professor, so if you're looking for an easy A, his class might not be for you. Attendance is mandatory, and he assigns a lot of reading material. Take him if you want to learn something new.
Great Teacher! Quizzes are easy once you read the assigned sections of the book!!! Lots of videos in class, which are fun and educational at the same time. Also, the papers that he gives are not that difficult.
Don't take this class if your gpa matters to you. As a matter of fact dont even go to baruch.hes a white guy trying to teach a distorted view of things he will never really know about. big scam and big rip off.
rip off and not worth messing with you gpa for. A white man teaching about things and subjects that he will never have a deep respectful understanding of.
AMAZINGGGG, I TRULEY HATE BARUCH , but this man just made me so excited about going to class . I LOVE HIS teaching method, you put in the effort and you will get an A. SUPERB EYE CANDY TOO !
I do not know what his being white has to do with in the prior comments. He is a great professor very helpful. He knows his stuff and is supportive where it matters. I had some problems and only failed because I was no able to attend most of the tests. I would recommend him 100 times!
GREAT PROFESSOR! GREAT CLASS! LEARNED SO MUCH ABOUT MY COUNTRY AND ABOUT PEOPLE VIEWS OF RACE AND RACISM.I WILL MISS HIS CLASS.JUST A POLITE PROFESSOR AND LOVES HIS TEACHING.IF YOU HATE SCHOOL, YOU WILL LOVE SCHOOL AFTER YOU SIGN UP FOR HIS CLASS. HE IS FUNNY AND ITS NOT A BORING CLASS. iF YOU WANT TO LEARN, THIS IS THE CLASS TO TAKE.
All teachers should take Prof. HENKEN'S classes to learn how to teach !!!! U learn having fun ...
All teachers should take Prof. hENKENS classes to learn how to teach !!! You learn having fun ..
Interesting and funny professor/class. 1 test, 3 papers, 1 presentation, and a take home final. Helpful professor and gives plenty of extra-credit opportunities. Takes attendance. Participation is not mandatory. Would definitely take him again!
Easy class. 3 quizzes, take home final and a final paper. He's very helpful and really into his job. Sometimes he takes it a bit too seriously. Overall, good class. You should take this class if you want to learn.
Prof Henken is the greatest his class was one of my fav. he is smart funny and his class is fun and engaging. I learned alot from his class and everything we did was relevant to the class topics. The assignment were not hard. If you want an A all you must do is pay attention. Would take him again and again. Wonderful Prof!!
Prof Henken's is extremely passionate about this class (I'm guessing he was Cuban in another life) and makes the class easy for those who share his passion. He provides a lot of opportunities to earn extra credit just for participating. Be passionate and get involve and you'll get a good grade.
Ted is the best! He's very chill & will work with you if you're struggling; he makes sure you learn the material. I took his New Orleans (SOC 3130) class & Sociology of the Internet (SOC 3085) class, & they're both interesting and informative. I love that he likes to bring guests to class. He's your professor and friend. I definitely recommend him!
This professor was not easy at all, he did not teach the class and spend the whole time having guest speakers. He gave a difficult exam with no review and expected us to read 140 - 200 pages and remember everything we could. DO THE POWERPOINT PRESENTATION BECAUSE IF NOT YOU WILL BE EVALUATED HARSHLY!! NOT EASY CLASS STAY AWAY AT ALL COST
OMGOSH! He knows his stuff! IN this class I learned so much and it was actually fun to learn! Of course you have to actually be into the class. He is very clear on what you have to do to get a good grade! He is the BEST!
Very interesting approach on Latin America. Quite refreshing. This class is not for slackers. You will work, just follow his instructions and you are golden. Take him
Does a great job of relating to the class. He's got a great sense of humor! The midterm and final are definitely not easy. You've gotta read and keep up with your notes. But overall, an easy enjoyable class!
He is the best professor i have encountered so far. He is clear, knowledgeable, smart, helpful, thoughtful, understanding, intelligent, and humorous. I cannot even describe how cool of a professor he is, maybe too cool to be a professor. Words cannot describe how understanding he is. He helps with class questions all the way down to grammar issues.
Good teacher, offers many extra credit opportunities throughout the semester. Do the couple of papers, and attend class, and you'll do fine. You must read a book for one or both of the papers, but overall a good class and a helpful teacher! tests were 70 MC and 1 Essay Question. Would recommend.
This was my favorite class last semester! The only hard part is the midterm and final because you really need to keep up with the textbook and other readings to do good on those. But the papers were fairly easy and really interesting topics as well! Recommend ! (he also gives a lot of fun extra credits)
Best teacher I had this semester. He manages to retain interest in the subject matter, and he assigns lots of extra credit. If you get less than an A, you didn't try.
I took him over a year ago, and I still remember his classes. Mr Guajiro Henken has been one of the finest professors, and open minded social scientist I've seen at Baruch. His class was dynamic and creative, but still makes you think and read, a lot. A lot of reading, that's why you are there too! I'd take him again, and even have a cafe con leche
The test are tough! The papers are long and the group projects are helpful to understanding the lectures.
Henken is overrated. He painfully tries to do too much and often falls short. He assigns an unnecessary high volume of course work that he's unable to grade and return in a timely manner. He misses a lot of classes and doesn't adhere well to deadlines. He's extremely long-winded and can be very boring. His saving grace is his sincerity.
Prof. Henken is very knowledgable. He really knows what is he talking about. Lectures are very interesting, but his exams are very difficult. 2 papers: research paper and critical analysis of a supplementary book, 1 midterm and 1 final.
He is totally obsessed with CUBA. He is overall a pleasant professor. Just go to class, participate and don't get bored hearing Cuba, Cuba, CUBA.
Overall.... Prof Henken is a very knowledgeable and great professor. He knows what he's teaching, and very clear.. However, he is a strict with grades and very straightforward. Don't forget to take down his lectures because every words he say will be on an exam.
Best professor I've had thus far. Amazing lectures, he's really passionate about sociology. If you read there shouldn't be a problem w passing. Lots of help on blackboard for midterm/ final prep. I would def want to have him for another class!
Ted is actually the best professor because he took the responses or reactions from students of diverse nations or cultures as natural throwing up, NOT as offensive. Though I got A, he made me work for A. Contents are moderate, just understand the materials and do all the works. He is sensitive about typos in Review Paper (30%)-be cautious about it.
Avoid this class if you have a good GPA. He is a tough grader and gives a test with 70 Short Answer Questions. Class is not impossible to pass, but relatively impossible to pass with a high grade. He gives lengthy lectures and doesn't give test reviews with the final exam being the exception. Informative, class, but the professor is a joke.
Professor Henken has a great personality, he is funny and passionate HOWEVER he is NOT an easy class. This class, which is supposed to be a basic sociology class had an enormous amount of work, lengthy papers which had multiple parts to it, and 2 70 question exams which he does not prepare you for at all. The exams are all from the textbook.
Professor Henken made Sociology so interesting the class time flew by. He makes you read two books on top of the textbook chapters, so you have to work for the A but he's a fair grader. Would definitely take another one of his classes!!
I took Entrepreneurial Cuba, which I thought would be an interesting topic to learn about. I feel like too much time was spent on the history of Cubas economy and politics rather than teaching us about current entrepreneurship in Cuba. He also assigns a pretty ridiculous amount of reading every class. Definitely ruined my GPA, oops.
He is a great professor. Midterm and Final are 75 multiple choice questions coming directly from textbook and 2 other books. One research final paper. A lot of easy extra credit opportunities. Easy A.
He is adorable! He tries his best to make class interesting, and he tries to slide in a few dad jokes now and then haha. This class is an easy A... if you read the textbook! That's the ONLY way you'll do well here. The midterm and the final replicate the textbook. There is one ethnographic paper where you have to go to a mosque to interview Muslims
A lot of extra credit opportunities. Two books to read and short and easy quiz on those books. Mid-term and the final are both 75 questions that are super easy as long as you study from the book, especially the key terms! Great professor!!
Great professor to have as a first-year student. My favorite in Baruch so far in my short time here. As long as you listen to his lecture and take notes you should be fine for exams
A lot of reading, so be cautious of that but otherwise a really good professor just be sure to pay attention. Gives lots of extra credit opportunities!!
Professor Henken is a very passionate professor and I admired that aspect of him. He def tried to engage us and tell us stories from his experiences but he does talk alot and goes off-topic sometimes. You HAVE to read the textbook do well. This class is an easy A only if you do all the readings with the textbook and books that he assigns.
Good professor but my goodness a so much work. Two 6 page papers, presentation, one mandatory out of class meeting if you don't go it'll count as a class absence. Thank goodness for covid or we would've had to bend over all semester for a good grade. To recap, good professor but forgets this class is an elective not a Zicklin business course.
Made us listen to a lot of podcasts about Cuba and it's history, and it was such an interesting way about learning the topic. Had to read one book and write a paper on it (5 pages, 2.0 spaced). Gives you a topic for the semester for presentation based off a list of podcasts he gives you and then a final paper. Super easy quizzes based off podcasts.
Professor Henken is a great professor. He truly cares for his students. He made the transition from in person to online classes easy for students. Its not an easy class but he is always there to help.
He is a very nice professor. He tries to make the class engage more but I guess since Covid we are a bit shy. Three papers, a presentation, and a final paper. Not graded by many things.
Professor Henken is a great professor. There was a a lot of reading and homework for this class. The homework were online quizzes and a couple B.B assignments due every week before class. The exams were challenging but he gave a lot of extra credit opportunities that helped if you did not do so well on the exams. Prof. also gives good feedback.
I took this professor in person. A lot of work, I did all the work on time and received good grades for exams but ended up getting C+.
Good professor, study the textbook and do all of the assignments and extra credit and you'll do fine.
I am disappointed in this professor.
Professor Henken's exams were 75 MC questions. The midterm tested us on the textbook and another book. As long as you do your homework and extra credit, you are good. I was about to get a C+ or a B-, but got a B+ since I did extra credit. Also, do the final paper since it is 20% of overall grade.
Was really kind, engaged, gave extra credit opportunities and super knowledgeable. it kinda felt like a high school class although the material was quite good. hard final and big paper / group project, but it was an accelerated summer course. I do wish he had more interesting interviews instead of his friend plugging his book (required reading)
This is my second time taking him and I highly recommend him. If you are going to take him, he does expect you to read the books and you will be tested on them to see if you know the material. As long as you do the work and actually read, you can get an A in this class. Plus he offered ways to get some extra credit as well.
Amazing professor! engaging and exciting enough that I didn't need to write any notes bc of how interesting he is. Super understanding when it comes to absences or late work (when reasonable) and just all-around funny and awesome! be sure to research and work hard on your projects as he is very knowledgeable and can tell when you b.s!
If you want to learn take his classes. He is knowledgeable and his grading structure is clear. It's clear that he cares about his students and his subject.
I took two of Prof. Henken's 3000-level classes. Both were interesting with relevant materials in a mix of formats. He expects students to read, think, and write and provides feedback and support. He is passionate about what he teaches. He brings in outside speakers and relates the material to current events. He respects academic accommodations.
Professor Henken's class is engaging with plenty of extra credit. Just stay on top of the readings and you'll do well. I also found Unstuck AI helpful for quick study prep.
pretty easy A if you do all the homework and definitely read the textbook for the first exam. the second exam is online and open note, so you can use the textbooks or your notes. he also offers a lot of extra credit assignments so please do it, your grade will skyrocket.
He's very generous with giving extra credit. Henken makes his expectations clear from the jump and he actually talks about things that are relative to our lives. Whenever he offers you extra credit, take advantage of it because it can make a huge difference with your final grade!
To be honest he wasn't as bad but lectures were definitely boring, gives a midterm that is 60+ questions, then a final thats online, gives assignments both writing and online textbook, and a final essay. Gives extra credit opportunities!
Overall great guy, attendance effects you grade by 1/13 points for each missed class. there were weekly 20 question homework assignments online, an in personal mid term and an online final. for each he provided a detailed reveiew sheet. if you dont mind attending lecture once a week and the mid term its a great class.
