Unbelieveable! This professor should not be teaching a distance learning course. I could go on and on about his inability to teach, lack of guidance, etc. For students without a B.S and are looking for a good Chem class, stay away, very far away from this professor!
I have never had a teacher as great as Prof. Marcus. He's the best!!!!
Useless professor if you want to learn. Answers were spotty or nonexistant. Nothing useful to learn from except the textbook. I could not understand anything, I could never get him to answer me. This was an Internet class. I have taken several before, and I don't think he knows how to use the Internet as a teaching resource. Dont waste your time.
I just learned about this site and I got to say that Dr. Marcus was perhaps the best teacher I have had over the last two years of taking courses online. At first I was skeptical about taking a chemistry course online, but Dr. Marcus made the course both educational and exciting. He repeatedly offered numerous ways of teaching chemistry includin
It was a really easy class. I thought that was great, until this year when I realized I didn't actually learn anything, I just got a good grade. He will not prepare you for anything except a high GPA. I guess that is important, but if you fail at the next level of class you are sort of screwed.
The worst online class I have ever taken! He did not respond to emails. Usually does not respond to ?'s on discussion forum. He used a lab kit that was missing numerous items and made it difficult to do most of the labs. I wish I could get my money back...
Dr. Marcus is a great professor. Not only will he reach beyond his duties and help his students pass the class with an A, he actually makes chemistry an enjoyable subject. I highly recommend taking his class rather then the online course.
It was pretty nice taking the Chemistry course with Dr. Marcus. He is very helpful in every way. If any questions, just stay after lecture or lab he'll help you and make sure that you completely understand the material. Nicest teacher! Give A to the student who puts their bes effort in the class. Strongly recommended!!!!
I thought Professor Marcus was very nice. His tests were multiple choice and he curved grades. We had take-home quizzes. He also dropped the lowest quiz score and exam score.
A real moron. Lost everyone's work. Was completely uninvolved with the class. Avoid this guy!
He's one bad teacher! He's really bad with online class...give us a break we are all nursing student here, not biochemist...cut us some slack...I would avoid him if i could!
I totally loved prof Marcus. I took chemistry 180 like 5 years ago and this class was much more understandable. If you go to lecture and study your notes, there is NO REASON not to get an A. He simplifies the concepts and makes it very easy to understand. TAKE HIM!
Prof. Marcus is the best chem teacher ever! He is extremely helpful, will do whatever he can to help you understand. His tests are fair and he is understanding. For those who fail, you did not put in the effort. The semester that i took him, no one in the class had a grade lower than a B...so you're pathetic if you can't pass with Dr. Marcus!
Online class. Prof. was virtually no help at all. Students posted questions that were left unanswered or told "look in chapter of text. Midterm time was 30 minutes less than was posted on website and left most students scrambling to finish. I might as well have checked out a book on chemistry at the library and taught it to myself.
made the material difficult to understaand in lecture. very hard to get an A. final and test difficuly. might want to rethink taking him.
WOW!!! I mean what more can I say...if you're looking for a class with no direction, or teaching and you feel like you can self teach your self 24 chapters in 8 weeks than this is the class for you...This class would have been a lot more enjoyable if it seemed like the teacher actually cared about the students...two thumbs down...avoid if possible
If you trust me you a lucky, DON'T take him...he doesn't know how to teach, make your study more complicated. He useless, get the question somewhere else then throw its in the exam. You must know how to solve it. The lab is easy, but doesn't helpful that much. "A" or "B" are depended on his mood during semester. Doesn't help you in future CHEM.
I took this class online a couple summers ago. If you email him, you are lucky to hear from him maybe a week later or even hear from him at all. If you can teach yourself, then you will do fine. I got an A in the class, but I know a lot of the class struggled. Don't take this class unless you are good at self teaching and have done online classes.
I took Dr. Marcus for an online class....and it was really easy. Just do all your assignments and you will pass.
TOOK HIM IN THE SPRING SEMESTER, PERFECT EXAMPLE OF A PROFESSOR WHO HATES HIS JOB. IT IS SAD TO PAY GOOD MONEY FOR AN EDUCATION WHEN THE INSTRUCTOR PUTS LITTLE OR NO EFFORT TO HELP YOU. IT IS REALLY DISCOURAGING!!
Dr. Marcus doesn't teach, he guides. For someone like me who isn't going to be a chemist but wants to be a nurse, he's perfect. Read the textbook, study the guides, do what you can in the labs and you will to fine. You not only will pass, you will improve your GPA in the process. Good luck!
Intro Chem Class taken online at Coastline. DO NOT TAKE HIM EVER IN YOUR CAREER AS A STUDENT. He isn't helpful, he gave our entire class our grades wks after they were due. And in the mean time my Gen. Chem classes filld up and are now waitlisted full..All because he wants to wait and give us the grades.Never had office hours,OVERALL TERRIBLE Prof.
I took this class this past Summer 2008 at Coastline in Fountain Valley, CA. The Professor sucks. He never emailed the students back. We got our quiz and lab grades weeks after the assignment. This was a 8 week class and extremely stressful. At least 85% of the students were disatisfied with his grading methods and with his response time.
This professor is bias, unethical, unprofessional, very very very inorganize, and favor certain people in class (especially white), impatient, unable to communicate (when u ask him one thing, he answers different thing). This professor does not know how to teach. He makes Chemistry harder. So if you'll take higher level of Chem,DO NOT EVER TAKE HIM
I took this class in Summer 2008 and have never had an instructor that was so unhelpful. He actually told us this is an online class so help each other. He never responds to emails and loses your labs. If you have to take this course, be ready to self teach and KEEP copies of everything, he will lose something.
Took Chem 110 online. You definitely have to be self disciplined to take this online course as the prof is not very available. However, his tests are very straightforward and is happy for you to succeed. So if you just keep up with the tests and homework, you can do very well. Much rather take this class than drudge into campus lab for 6 hrs/week.
His test and quiz questions often come directly from the book and from the study questions he gives out at the beginning of the semester. There are lots of points available in the lab so even if you don't get A's on every test you can still get an A in the course if you do the assignments.
Very cool teacher. Willing to help out students if they don't understand something. Go to the Lab and you will do fine. Great teacher!
Great teacher, attend the labs and ask questions if you don't understand. He is more than willing to help you pass the class.
He's MIA! Never reachable via phone. He has yet to answer of my questions online. His exam review session looks nothing like the actual exam. Took this class as a requirement to a nursing program. Worked my butt off because I so needed this class, but would not recommend this instructor for an online class.
I took the online section. He rarely answered emails and was unavailable for help outside of class. He was disorganized. Some test questions were straight from the review, however he also tested us on material that was not yet covered or assigned! The lab section rarely had the materials we needed. Stay away! Far away!
I took both chem180&185 at the same time. There was a Department Chair visit Chem185 for an evaluation, he suddenly changed the lecture to exactly what I learned in Chem180. Now, u tell me what kind of professor is this? Honestly, he is very very inorganize. STAY AWAY FROM THIS GUY. Don't understand why he's still teaching
I am currently taking Chemistry 100 with Dr. Marcus.I wish I would have read the reviews about him before I started taking this class. I emailed him over a week ago he has yet to reply. You have to work your behind off in this class. He said as long as we study the review question and the quizes we should do good on the mid-term and final but that
Ted Marcus is a teacher who doesn't teach. He is completely absent. I'm taking chem 110 online and he does NOTHING to help you. No notes, no tips, NO instruction. NONE. Need help? Good luck! Emailed him, left msgs, used forum: NO response. It's unbelievable! Filing formal complaint for his total absence as an instructor. AVOID at all costs!
Nightmare. Worst class ever taken. NEVER responds to questions & suddenly upped midterm date by 3 days 2 days before test with no warning then changed it back after students protested. Not kidding. Complained to dean twice. NO idea how he's still teaching. Steer clear!
Taking Chem online & he is totally useless as a teacher. Class itself is not too hard but it's basically self-taught. Wouldn't be too bad except for that the lab kit is missing items required for lab assignments & he doesn't tell you what you need to do otherwise. Worst class I've taken so far at Coastline. Too bad it's required for nursing.
Will get an A if you study.....if you are one of those out spoken student then stay away from his class. Just keep your head down and you'll do fine. He doesn't like no it all asking a lot of questions he cant answer. Mine your own business and you should do fine.
Dr. Marcus is a caring, sweet professor who wants his students to succeed. He will help you with any and all questions you have about the material. His tests are based off assigned chapters. He knows what he's talking about. You can't really ask for more than that in a professor.
I enrolled in his class & dropped after a few days as I knew I wasn't going to learn anything & felt I was setting myself up to fail my next course. He is extremely difficult to understand & yes, he does not like it when you ask questions so if you are somebody like that, you will have to find other resources! I hate to say this but he isn't worth
I love this online Chem110 class. This subject is not easy by any means, but as long as you try, he will pass you with either a B or an A. Turn in all your labs and do all your quizzes. I got an A, but it's only because he curved it and gave me additional 30 points towards the final...have no idea where the points came from. LOVE IT!
Ted Marcus is a helpful Professor as long as you ask him for help.Majority of the class is self taught with the online lecture. Midterm and quizzes are easy and all online. Final is straightforward from his review. You just need to study that. He is very lenient with the points and gives a lot of extra points in the class.
LOVE Dr. Marcus!! He's so cool with the grading. Take him, you will pass as long as you don't quit and try. 85% and above is an A. 75%=B, 65% =C.
Great teacher! He is helpful and gives a lot of extra credit!
I couldn't have asked for a better Chemistry professor than Dr. Marcus! I was really worried about taking Chemistry over summer (especially being almost 8 months pregnant) but he made learning and class time so enjoyable. He is incredibly intelligent and is always willing to stay longer after class to help you with the material. Highly recommended!
i took the online class and the lab at the garden grove location. The teacher was very helpful. I got an A because I studied hard.
Dr. Marcus is the most amazing professor ever. Very intelligent. He is very helpful. He makes chemistry so easy to understand. I actually never had a professor so great at teaching. He is so easy to understand and very well organized. He expects students to work hardm which is great these days. Most teachers do not teach, Dr. Marcus goes beyond!
Dr. Marcus is a professor that truly goes beyond what is expected of him. He is not only organized, but he is sincere with what he explains. One of the best professors that I have ever had. I reccommend Dr. Marcus fully with no reservations. This class is difficult, but Dr. Marcus makes it simple. Truly blessed to have had him.
The class is hard because of the subject itself, not the teacher. He will help you when you need him. He made the class very simple. Great professor.
I took the class online and the lab at the Garden Grove Center. Dr. Marcus was so helpful & really made sure that you understood the material before moving on. I highly recommend taking the lab in class because he lectured also to help with the online portion of the class. Truly a nice guy and made Chemistry enjoyable! Thanks Dr Marcus!
You will love him! He's the best chemistry teacher I've had. His quizzes and exams are like the lectures and homework. Do your homework and go to his lectures then you will pass with an A...but you have to do the homework!
I took his class at the GG center spring 09. Chem is though but i think he did a fairly good job. I understand the people upset about him replying late or not at all, but it's chem you need to be there to get a grasp anyway. I managed to get a B after almost ten years since HS. It can be done just read the book and check out khan academy on youtube
I was very scared of taking Chemistry because I heard it was hard. And it was hard, but Dr. Marcus made it so easy to understand. He always helps students learn and spends time explaining difficult concepts. I got an 'A,' and it was only because Dr. Marcus made the subject so simple. Anyone would be more than lucky to have a prof. like him!
he is good chem professor
Dr. Marcus is the best Chemistry Professor I have ever had. The man is a genius! He explains concepts so simply and does everything he can to make it enjoyable. One could not ask for a better professor than Dr. Marcus. He truly made me love Chemistry. Not only that, but he made studying it enjoyable. I am so grateful. And I recommend him highly!
If you are scared of chemistry I would recommend taking this class. He is a very easy grader on the lab assignments. He drops your 2 lowest lab scores and as long as you turn in the labs your get a high score on them. The quizzes (4) are only 15 points each and are easy as well. The hard part of this class is the final since it's worth 300 points
The worst instructor I have EVER had. This was an on-line course, and Dr Marcus would take 2-1/2 weeks to respond to students questions, and when he FINALLY would respond, he was extremely vague and unclear. He took 3 weeks to get our final grades posted. The most UNINVOLVED instructor EVER!! And I got an A. He doesnt know how to teach on-line!!
Online class. Great for Adult Learners. Stress free learning and student friendly. Cares for his students and wants everyone to succeed.Great intro to Chemistry class. I'd take him again. I passed.
Love Professor Marcus! He is a wonderful teacher! Extremely helpful and wants the best for the students. He drops one lowest online quiz, one lowest lab quiz, one lowest exam, and one lowest lab report. Attend exam reviews and study his quizzes. They are 90% of your exam! Guaranteed A! P.S- He brought donuts before our exams! Haha
Great class, the Teacher was a little slow to getting back to you with issues but he was great on getting it issues resolved, I would recommend this class.
Super easy class. Put in no effort got a HIGH B. Like literally no effort. Cool guy too. Very fair and reasonable.
DO NOT TAKE HIS ONLINE COURSE!!! He is the worst with getting back to you. I emailed him 4-5 times and he never once did he email me back. I left him two messages and had the Distance Learning also email him and cc me as well, and even that didn't get his attention. I finally spoke to him at the midterm review and he claimed he never rec'd them!
I wouldn't recommend this teacher. This was a summer course that started early July. Well sad to say, he last logged onto the discussion forum July 3rd! Class didn't end until August 11th! All the students were posting these questions and here this so-called professor wasn't even checking his own cyber classroom to see what was going on! Horrible
Dr. Marcus is Awesome only if you have him for an in-class lab, I signed up for indpndt lab at home but dropped on 1 st day because it seemed a bit overwhelming. I took him again this semester and he was a very pleasant instructor, material is not easy but very doable if you read the text and follow along in lab. overall, I recommend him!
Doesn't grade homework. Uses the book very little. If you took and did well in Intro to General Chem, you'll do fine for most of the class. He's sometimes difficult to understand and lectures seem to drag on. Labs are super easy (in general) and usually go very quickly. He doesn't always remember what he has and hasn't told us to do. He'll help if you ask, but sometimes it still isn't clear what he's looking for.
Dr. Marcus is super chill. I really like him as a person. He brought donuts for us during our lecture! :) As far as in the lecture and lab, i pretty much had to learn everything on my own. He is an easy grader. I recommend this class to students who dont care to learn anything in the class but just want to pass. He will not prepare you for C185.
Great teacher! Although the lectures were a bit boring, he covered what you needed to know for the quizzes and exams. Study everything he hands out! I did a lot of self-learning, but the material isn't too hard. Labs are quick and easy. He is there to help you and is very responsive but don't plan on depending on him too much.
Dr. Marcus is an amazing professor! Take him if you love chemistry! He drops the lowest test and quiz. Lab quizzes are straight out of the lab book. The final was straight-forward. And he brought us doughnuts in one class! Take him! Got an A with little effort (if you're not good at chem, you might need to work a little harder).
I hate Chemistry! Do all labs. If there is something you don't get just put a note beside it and he does not count off. I took it on-line and had no problems at all with him. Dr. Marcus is very laid back. He always got back to me. I did read the text book and it is a must to go to the review sessions before the exams. An absolute must.
Took the lab portion in class & the non-lab portion online. VERY EASY overall. Lab is 3hrs but usually took about an hour. 6 takehome tests/midterm are online & answers are in Google. 60 multiple choice final (44% of your grade) was hard but half are taken from the final review. Gave 30 E.C on test to boost grade. Also takes long to reply to emails
Hard to understand his accent. It's confusing when he teaches but stays after class to help. There are 12 labs and only about 2 are hard. You can Google all the answers except the final. Must be prompt in class because he stamps pre-labs at the beginning but grades easy. Dont recommend if you don't know Chem. Love his easy going class!
Marcus is a world-class chemist and a world-class educator. But you would never know it because he dumbs down the material to meet the needs of students who are not interested in Chemistry. This in turn is the consequence of an academic prerequisite system that asks students to study scientific modules they will never use in their careers.
Professor does NOT respond to emails to or class posts without waiting at least 2 weeks. He claims he doesn't check his email often - how can this be the case when teaching an online course?! Distance learning is aware of his neglect and do nothing. Quizzes and midterm easy - use google. Final hard and random - only 1/2 from his review.
Relatively easy. As others said, very hard final if you don't know your stuff. Rest is easy. Easy B but have to work a little for an A. Professor is awful at communication. Understanding and will work with you. No homework! Yay! Won't learn much unless you want to - as in many online classes. Took online so don't know if he lectures well
Horrible teaching skills. The midterm review for his online Intro to Chem class at Coastline was poorly taught. I really didn't learn anything. The students in class frequently corrected mistakes he made on the chalkboard. It was sad experience. The class costs over $400 if you buy both the textbook and lab kit.
He's an OK professor. Not really helpful though. Most of the time you have to self-studìed. Tests are pretty easy, but you won't probably learn anything if you study for the tests only.
Lectures are dry, but if you can keep up with it and take notes on what he says will be on the test, you will do well. The lectureexam are outlines of the book. Labs are easy.. follow directions. Has 1 open-book, and cumulative midterm mid-semester that almost nobody did well in. Easy B, but really study for an A. Tests straightforward.
Basically, you're given the book, the lab box, and basically go kick rocks until it's time for a test. No recorded lectures (not even the Pearson ones), no lecture notes, no professor interaction on the board, slow at grading labs, lab book not clear as it's for an in class lab. The "notes" online for adaptation are terrible and unclear.
I would not recommend taking this class online if you need to learn chem. If you are taking it for GE it's good. I'm a good student & I struggled. The quizzes & tests are difficult. The final was not based on the study guide provided. He gives 40 pts extra credit for finishing the class which helps. Labs pulled my grade up and I earned a B.
I took his online lecture, in class lab class. The quizzes were easy and there was no homework/papers. The lab was once a week, and pretty self-explanatory. Just follow the lab instructions and make sure you complete it and turn it in the next week.. That's your grade maker. Also, be prepared for the final, it's in-class.
Awesome guy. Several times he set up a whole mini-experiment just to answer a question I had! I went into his 180 without taking 130 first, and still got an A thanks to his helpfulness. He has an accent and his lectures can get confusing, so make sure to participate so you don't get lost. He LOVES Chemistry and will make you like it too.
He is helpful and if you attend class you will pass. Contact via Email or office hours, He is great at helping you understand the work. Chemistry can be outside the box for some people - he breaks it down in ways easily understood.
It was pretty much what the others had said. Just do your labs and try to well on your quizzes and mid-term. The only thing is, that the final is in-class, only 1/2 of it was taken from the study guide. He takes long to answer questions and emails. For the final, he gives 40 extra credit points. Just be prepared to waste $300 on the lab kit.
Unless confident enough to learn Chem entirley on your own, don't take it online. Dr. TM offers no guidence -Expected to complete labs at home -Offers no instruction. -His directions online are all over the place. -He hadly responds to emails/questions posted by students on seaport. I was @98% until I took the final & ended w/ a D in his class
Ted is a good guy. I got 100% on the labs and he was really flexible when a glitch happened (not all professors are that cool) Just study real hard for the test. He gives extra credit though, so if you do all your labs you can still get an A.
If you prefer to learn by the textbook than be given lectures (though he doesn't give lectures), this won't be bad for you. I thought he would give the final online but no matter what it's always in person but it's not bad at all. Overall easy A if you need to take a science class. Half is inorg chem, other half org chem (with part microbiology).
VERY nice professor. Super easy and fair. Easy A if you study. Lab was done in class and lecture at home. To be honest i never opened the book. 4 quizes all done online. Midterm online, and final on campus. He offers a review for the midterm and final and pretty much gives you half the questions and answers.
One of the MOST EASIEST teacher ever! All the quiz are online and so is the midterm! Only downside is the final is in class. Do your prelab questions before class! Easy grader in the lab sections. Show up to his study sessions because he gives you the answers to half of the test! Don't need the book don't use the book. You'll get an A++++ I Did
Dr. Marcus's class is an easy class. Just make sure you review the materials for quizzes and midterms. Try to do well on all the midterms so you don't have to take the FINAL which I heard is very hard. He gives extra credit. Nice guy. He's not a good lecturer so if you have any question, find it elsewhere. Class is A-able. Take him.
I struggle with chemistry & although he was willing to help, he'sjust not good. Unless you are really good at chemistry/or self-motivated to teach yourself I highly suggest finding another professor. His lectures are long & he doesn't give you anything to practice the material. He's a niceguy & excited about chemistry but his class was a struggle.
Very hard class!
Dr. Marcus is the best professor of Chemistry one could ever ask for! The way he teacher is so simple to understand. He makes everything so much easier to understand. At first I was very scared of Chemistry, but other students told me that Dr. Marcus would make it a wonderful experience! He always tests on the material he teaches! Best prof. ever!
Honestly, I have to admit that I was terrified of taking Chemistry until I was encouraged by students to take the class with Dr. Ted Marcus. I am so happy I listened to their advice. Dr. Marcus makes the concepts so simple and makes the lectures so easy to understand. An amazing class and an incredibly brilliant professor. Thank you!
His final exam was insane!!
Study lecture slides and pre-labs because the same questions will be on the lab/lecture quizzes, trust me. There are two midterms that are fair (he drops the lowest of the two). Drops the lowest lecture/lab quiz. Curves the class at the end; had a B, got A. Overall, easy class until you reach the final... EXTREMELY HARD FINAL. Average was 110/200.
Took the online hybrid course over the summer. 6 online quizzes, 12 labs & lab reports, 1 online midterm and 1 noncumulative final exam. Grades easy on labs. Almost all the questions for the quizzes and midterm can be found online. The final is on campus and was EXTREMELY difficult, but offers about 30 extra credit points for finishing the class.
Very nice prof. He cares but isn't very good at responding. Online during intercession is very doable. Labs/quizzes are easily graded. Midterm is online but final was proctored and hard unless you read the book. He gives you a review with 40% of the questions. Final is only for the 2nd half of the class so 8 chapters. Everyone should get an A/B
Dr. Marcus is one of the best professor I have ever had! He always starts the class with a joke and makes learning very fun! I was a little nervous about taking a chemistry class, but the other students told me that Dr. Marcus would make chemistry very simple. They were right! Not only did I get an A, but I learned so much.
Take this class if you can teach yourself because he can not teach. His lectures are simple and powerpoints are all online. Lab is very easy to pass. Have to show up. Hard to reach outside of class. Final was very hard. Some exams and quizzes can be easy. Can pass but YOU MUST KNOW how to teach yourself.
I took Chem 110 Hybrid. All work, lectures, and tests are online (aside from the final). Dr Marcus is the kindest, quietest professor. He is very easy to talk to and tells corny chemistry jokes, but as a student you do have to kind of "teach yourself". I wouldn't take his course again, but he is such a nice man. If you're good at chem, take him.
Dr Marcus is very nice, quiet and extremely smart: he has a PhD in Organic Chem Rarely use ppt or the book during lectures, only to keep track. He can answer all your questions. Since it is a hybrid class, you do need to "teach yourself". Everything is online: hw, quiz, midterm: the final is proctored and is the hardest thing you'll ever take.
It's Chemistry... so clearly, it's going to be tough. There was a lot of homework, some of the labs were quite complicated, and the midterm/final was rough. I learned so much in this class but definitely had to work for it. Would take his class again for sure.
This professor is super helpful and you can tell he has a lot of knowledge and passion for chemistry. The online lab and lecture are pretty straight forward. Hes super nice too
Dr Marcus was a pleasure to have as a Professor. Chemistry is a new language to me. I truly was fearful to start this class. Dr Marcus was very supportive and helpful. He email response lag a bit, but he will respond. He will give exam reviews. He also give you 40% of the questions of the heavily weighted final exam. Lab attendance is a must
Chemistry is the hardest subject ever and Dr. Marcus makes it enjoyable and worth it! His lectures are amazing! And he will do more than is required of him! He always goes the extra mile to make sure you understand every difficult concept! His reviews are a must! He will get you through the course and you will do well because he will prepare you!
Do yourself a favor and take someone who can teach chemistry or else you'll be teaching yourself all semester. It'll be a 4hr lecture, refuses to post ppts, use canvas, and takes a lifetime to post grades. So you never know where you stand in this class. Lowest quiz and midterm dropped, final is 200 pts will determine your grade. Gooood luck! lol
Took this online class during the winter session, it was the easiest class I've ever taken. All quizzes are online and also the midterm. The answer can be found online for both the midterm and quizzes. The final is easy if you study his review and read the chapters he assigned. He gives the answer to half of the questions in his review. Good Luck!!
You need more than just the textbook to pass. His reviews are useless. Out of 20 review questions given, only 3 or 4 are on the test, and the rest is stuff he brushed over. Drops one quiz and one exam, plus 30 points for finishing class. He's a nice guy, but definitely shouldn't be teaching. Especially over zoom, where he doesn't know how to mute.
If you really want to learn chemistry, then dont take this class. His zooms are just reading over the powerpoints he gives you on canvas so its a waste of time. Labs are also on zoom but he gives no guidance on them. Anyways, its easy to pass with an A considering all the resources and relatively easy level of work.
This was the worst course Ive ever taken. I feel like he procrastinated on a lot of things. We never received syllabus, canvas was not accessible until 3am the night prior to first class, grading takes a long time, was not helpful in guiding through labs or answering questions. Get ready to walk yourself through chem if you take him.
You could tell he tried his best and I appreciated that. Some people arent tech savvy, especially older adults, and thats fine. Im sure if he didnt have to be online (COVID), he wouldnt be. Yes he could be confusing at times but its honestly not that difficult to figure out what hes looking for. If you put in the work, its easy to do well.
How much you learn in Dr. Marcus's 110 online class depends entirely on you. He blows through lessons, class always out early. Labs are fun, kit is required (use link he gives 1st day, bookstore charges twice the price!), book can be rented on Amazon. Tests/quizzes open book. Easy to pass, but if you really NEED to learn chem, try another class.
He was willing to work with students and do his part and more. You wont loose points for not attending his lectures but its the foundation if you want to pass quizzes, midterm and the final! No homework just focus in class ask questions and you will be set Professor really wants you to pass and will help you, but dont ask to round your grade.
Chemistry has always been a subject I hate must until I take this course, still in progress but loving it so far. Dr. Marcus makes it fun and enjoyable. Quizzes are easy if you enjoy his lecture, youll learn and be able to do it well.
Midterm exam (150 points) + Final Exam (300 points) + 10 quizzes & labs (15 points)+ challenge ques every week(5 points) = your grade. Prof Marcus was extremely considerate of what students were going through: COVID, babysitting, etc. It's not easy doing an accelerated chem course. I respect him for his efforts. He wants everyone to succeed.
Breezes through lecture slides within a minute, won't stop to let you take notes. Be ready to here "Oh this is so easy!" on concepts that's only easy if taught. He clearly knows chemistry, but can't teach it. I'm currently in 185 and feel ill-prepared as there are several concepts he should've wen't over but didn't. He's fine to pass, not to learn.
Dr Marcus is a great professor. He gives you all the tools and resources to do well in class. You have to be willing to put in the work outside of class. I dreaded taking this class for so long but glad I got to take this Chem course with him.
Professor Marcus grades everything VERY EASILY. All quizzes and exams are open books and open notes so it was not that difficult. Yes, lectures he goes very fast but he gives the slides in advance. Labs are easy to do. He is really flexible if you reach out to him.
He is easy grader and all of quizzes and exams are open book/note but rudest and worst communicative prof. I had been yelled several time during lab time. Sometimes, he may be hilarious by giving jokes but rarely! He replies after so long time or NEVER. Only take him if you're familiar with lab or you will have a hard time.
We call him "Mr.Simple" because he always says everything is simple. He takes so long time to reply and do the grades. Once time I asked him about my final grade and he said "the grade will be done when it is done". Even our last meeting was almost 2 weeks ago, I still dont know my grade :)
Professor Marcus is a great professor! I highly recommend him. His grading is very easy and I enjoyed his labs. I got an A+ in his Chem 180 lecture course and an A in his lab, even though Chemistry is difficult for me!
Chem 180 with Prof Marcus can be tough, but his engaging lectures and unstuck ai study tools make it manageable. Attend class, use the textbook, and you'll do well.
