This was his first term at pcc and in the beginning he was very confusing and disorganzed. However, after the first three weeks he has turned out to be a great teacher. His teaching style is group learning so if that's not your thing stay away from his class.
this course is very condensed and he flies through the material. I am constantly getting help outside of class (that's what i thought lectures are for!) he does make good powerpoint presentations as notes (you can print out). I will avoid taking him again.
He did a really good job. He was extremely willing to work with me regarding life and personal stuff that comes up. He mades the material fun. I would take him for other classes.
He was really willing to work with me regarding life and personal stuff that comes up. It made a big difference in my grade. I know it was the first term here but he mades the material fun. I would take him for other classes.
Ted is awesome. He is very understanding, and makes himself available outside of class if you need more help. He gives a fair amount of quizzes/tests, and will sometimes let the class correct mistakes after the test for partial credit. I definitely recommend him. He pushes students to learn on their own,or from group discussion. He loves Chemistry.
I just wanted to say thank you for him teaching and helping me, I appreciate it
DO NOT RECOMMEND!!!!! I do not doubt Ted knows the subject, but he is unable to teach it! He is unorganized! He doesn't come to class with a plan as to how he will teach the material in order for his students to understand. If you take this guy, plan on spending many hours in the tutoring center, because his class is a waste of time!
he was so good to us :) he was considerate and understanding. I would have failed miserably!
Who ever gave him a sad face was wrong, wrong, wrong... He is a great teacher and takes the time to answer questions. He explains until we understand and loves to teach us. Ted is very understanding and treats us very well, unlike some teachers that are on a power trip. I have learned a lot taking Chem. 104 and 105 from him. I highly recommend him!
I think the instructor is well verse and have a strong background in the subject. With more time to adapt to a new college he'll be even better as a proffessor. I had a good learning experience.
The instructor was very helpful and flexible. The instructor had a great sense of humor, and that helped reduce the stress level.
I took chem 104 from Ted in his first term at PCC. You could tell that he was new and was getting used to things, but he did an excellent job of teaching the class. He is very interested in student success and is always available after hours . Put in good effort, do the homework and you will do fine
Sorry, but I can not recommend this instructor. He is a nice person. After group discussions he would flick the lights off and on to get attention. He does not command a presents. Maybe still too new? He requires groups to appoint an "inquisitor" this means, if you have a question, you cannot ask it, only the inquisitor may ask.
I regret for taking Chemistry with Ted. Very disorganized teacher. Hasn't answered any of the class questions. Always says: -Good question! I'll have to look it up. AND THAT'S IT! Most of the class is disappointed and frustrated because he is so confusing. Do yourself a favor and take another teacher.
i have not taken any kind of chemistry in college before, so I may not know if Ted is a bad teacher or not having no compairison. But I managed to understand all that he taught. He also didn't just straight up give the answer but tried to help you figure and understand the questions. I would take another class from him.
I took CH 221 and 222 from him. He is an okay instructor. easy to talk to and answers all questions. But Chem is one of those classes you have tp read the assigned text and work the problems. Most people that have a hard time with chem just don't spend the time with it. Ted offers extra credit and rework of test to raise scores. Take him and expect
I think he's a great teacher, he has great communication with his students, he's very organized and easy to follow. He has a relaxed atmosphere in the lecture and lab, and will always get right back to you if you e-mail him or makes himself available for extra help. The only negative I would say is he does A LOT of group work which isn't my favori
I wanted to warn those who are interested in taking Organic Chemistry that this class relies heavily on group activity to learn the material instead of teaching the material. If you learn better by an instructor teaching the material then this class is not for you.
I cannot express how frustrating this teacher is. I regret taking his class. He speaks down to you. if you have interest in Chem, avoid him and take another instructor.
I would definitely recommend him to another student. He was a great positive instructor. He always had patience with questions. I enjoyed being in his class and I feel like he has taught me a lot throughout the term.
He is super funny, makes class really fun organized and being class feels like it goes by in no time. there lots of team work and in class question that forces you to pay attention and get the concept love it. P.S he looks just like Allen from 2 and 1/2 men ;)
Great guy, funny and you can tell he loves what he teaches. Provides slides online, allows you to correct your exams to get 1/3 of the missed points back. A lot of group work and homework, but all the Chem classes in PCC are using this method. He makes class enjoyable, I would definitely recommend him!
I've taken chem w/ this instructor 3 terms now & I highly recommend him. I would NOT have made it as far as I have w/o his help. He allows exam corrections for partial credit. He gives multiple opportunities for EC. If you're struggling at all *talk to him*, he's available to help both office hours and in study lab. This instructor rocks it hard.
What a horrible experience! The class average on the first exam was 74% and on the 2nd exam it was 68%. Sorry, i don't understand the positive feedback he gets from other students. It's just not true.
I agree with the last comment. You must had been in my summer class. Ted is very flakey and unclear. None of his slide were correct. Very little lecture and quizes were set up to fail students. After the second quiz there were less that 1/3 of the class left. I really felt bad for the students that struggled, because of his poor teaching.
I would recommend him. Good at explaining the material but also knows when the class is not following his lecture and will back up until class grasp the subject. He did not offer extra credit on the exams when I took him though.
I would recommend Ted. He is friendly, fun, and helpful. He also shows a real interest and passion for teaching and chemistry.
Ted makes chemistry fun and interesting. He goes way beyond whats expected to make his students successful.
Fairly passionate about the subject, is willing to answer any questions however off topic (office hours of course) and was always flexible if something came up and reasonable time was given. The book is not crucial to success in the class since it uses the Masteringchemistry online program but having it did help sometimes.
Ted is a good teacher. He loves to teach and it shows. It helps to ask a lot of questions because he can go over material fast. He gives extra credit and he will do your lab work for you if you're confused. Great way to learn Organic Chemistry.
Ted is a great teacher, very helpful in labs and lecture class. I did find that sometimes he did stray off topic, or dwell on certain subject material for far too long which pushed the class back a bit. Otherwise, he's a great teacher, I would definitely recommend him.
Ted is a passionate and funny teacher. I wouldn't say that his style or methods are amazing, but he does a great job and loves doing it.
Enthusiastic about chemistry and teaching. This class is lots of work and moves very quickly, however, you have options to retake quizzes and Ted goes out of his way to make sure you have access to him via email, office hours, tutoring center. Highly recommend you take CH100 or have some chemistry background from high school before taking CH 221.
Ted is a nice guy, who obviously loves teaching. There's tons of group work. He can sometimes make you feel dumb, but I don't think he means to. His tests and quizzes are super hard though, and if you're not willing to work, don't take this class. DEFINITELY NOT AN EASY A OR B CLASS!!! He's really annoying sometimes though...
Ted is a great teacher. His lectures are clear, and he often tries to engage the class. He utilizes group work, which I think works well. He's very helpful outside of class too. He gives students EVERY opportunity to get an A in his class. Sometimes I felt like he wasted time with the clicker questions, but otherwise he's a great teacher.
Be ready to work! The class is well structured and includes lots of group work. I was annoyed about it at first but came to find it helpful. Clicker questions are helpful & Ted will back-up if you aren't getting it. That was refreshing. I wasn't a fan of the lab, but that's set-up by the department.
Ted is one of the best teachers I've had at PCC, and defiantly the funniest. He keeps class interesting and interactive. He goes out of his way to help students and provide resources.Don't take his class if you want an easy A, do take it if you want to learn.
Very good teacher. He knows what he is teaching and he is helpful and will clarify when you do not understand it. He focuses on group work which I like a lot and his slides + lectures make lots of sense. He is also a funny teacher. Overall, he is a great teacher who knows what he is teaching and I highly recommend him if you take CH221.
Ted is an awesome instructor. He structures his lessons so that his students have a working qualitative understanding of concepts prior to giving them the quantitative tools needed for problem/lab applications. He gave reasonable extra credit opportunities and often curved quizzes and exams when the class performed poorly. And that was nice.
Ted is a great teacher. Enthusiastic about chem. Develops critical thinking skills. Bombed final or else would have had A. Do all the work and don't miss a class and you'll be set. Respect classmates and don't talk aloud during clicker questions. Group work encourages thinking. Good course plan, tries evoke critical thought. A+++ Ted, thanks again
He is really enthusiastic but you've got to have serious chem skills to pass, his class is far from easy and the personifies everything when explaining it, but then expects you to be super technical on a test. I'd recomend him if you want a fun chem teacher, but not if you suck at chem.
Ted is awesome! He’s fair, provides many chances for EC and teaches for the student’s benefit. He doesn’t mail it in like some instructors I’ve had.You have to work hard so don’t bother taking him if you want an easy A.Plus,he doesn’t teach out of the book!No need to waste $300 because he uses other teaching materials which do a better job anyways.
Some like him and some hate him. I really tried but wasn't on the like side. He piles on the homework and pushes the critical thinking skills constantly. I really prefer the instructors who teach concepts rather than worry about your problem solving skills at every point in the process. I would avoid but it's your call...
Ted is a great instructor, but he does require that you put in effort outside of class to comprehend the subject matter. I took him for the entire Organic Chemistry series and ended up doing very well on the ACS using the techniques suggested in class.
Ted's cool. He is clear on his expectations and as long you study up, you'll be fine. I took a different chem prof for 151 (yeah, that one-you'll know if you know) and Ted made everything much clearer. Take him if you have the chance.
Ugh. This teacher is so so unorganized it's not even funny. He has online homework that often gets edited because we didn't even cover what's on it during class. Dates are constantly getting switched for assignments. Teaching style is all over the place. Do not take if you dislike group work. Requires a presentation in the lab.
Super unorganized, expectations in class are completely different than what's in the online syllabus. Passionate & fun teacher, but unreliability makes work outside of class difficult. HW often includes topics that haven't been covered in class. Lots of group work & critical thinking- don't take if you want to be taught before applying concepts.
Ted is clear and makes learning chemistry simple if you want to learn. I took Chem 221 and 222 from him. Both classes were engaging, and I completed the classes confident that I had a command of chemistry for basic purposes and the ability to independently learn further. Absolutely take his class.
Very clear, made things easy to understand. Planning on taking him for all Chem classes
Ted is a great teacher! He really knows his stuff and teaches in a way that encourages you to really analyze problems and solutions. He's clear about what his expectations are for his students and really encourages everyone to succeed. Ted truly cares about his students' success and works hard with us to help us achieve our goals.
Ted is an excellent and engaging instructor, I enjoyed his class and feel that I learned a lot from his class.
He grades so freaking hard. I have taken anatomy and aced it, as well as microbiology and did well. Both which should be more difficult than this 100 level course. But no, this class has been the most challenging by far and I was not a fan of Ted's strictness in terms of grading, attendance, participation
well, to start off. Be prepared to work your butt off. He's very challenging instructor. He really pushes you and if you don't come prepared, you'll be struggling. Please reconsider if you must. But he is friendly and funny. Still, I'd open my other chances.
Mr. Picciotto is a very strict and tough grader. He really doesn't care how well you do in the class, whether you're doing well or not. He marks you down for every minute you're late for Lab so 5 minutes is an F for the Pre-Lab and thats if you would have gotten a 100% to begin with. His lectures are vague and he's very rude over email. Skip Him.
I was nervous to take Ted because of his reviews but he has been amazing thus far. He really cares that you pass but also will not just hand out A's. He expects everyone to put in the effort and always reassures he's there if we ever need any help. He answers questions quickly and with an open mind. He's crazy smart and has a great sense of humor!
Ted is awesome! He is really smart, and his class structure is very interactive. If you have questions, he is willing to help over email or during office hours. Youll need to spend 10 hr./week studying outside of class, but if you are going into chemistry or a related field, take Ted. You'll be well prepared for your future studies.
Ted was one of the most teachers I have ever taken. He was beyond rude and sarcastic when being asked questions. He'll mark you down for any little thing that bugs him about you. If you want to protect your GPA then skip him and take someone else. Literally any other chem teacher. If you take him just be warned he will be a jerk.
Ted is very approachable and understanding. Something a lot of other teachers lack. He is very smart but doesnt condescend the students when they need extra help. Awesome teacher.
Ted Picciotto is an amazing instructor! He creates a very friendly learning environment, and is extremely knowledgeable and helpful.
ECHS: He's an okay professor; mostly all over the place when it comes to teaching; can be confusing for others. Therefore, wouldn't recommend him. Had Terrah (151) and she taught much better. Her technique is handed over to Patty Maazouz. There's tons of work than you can think of, but you'll understand it much better than if you're in Ted's class.
Ted is a great professor. The workbook really leaves you with a great understanding of the material. If you want to get an 'A' on every test, just use the study material he provides, especially the exam question sampler.
Critical grader/critical person. Offers great EC opportunity. The thing that is most frustrating about this instructor is that he has an arrogant attitude. It is evident in his grading, so be prepared to double check your work cause he'll mark you down for things that you've done. Even attendance. Straumanis textbook saved me, not Ted.
Would not recommend him. If you enjoy chemistry he will make you dislike it. Nice guy but not a very good teacher.
Ted seems like a nice person, and Im sure he is, but the amount of busy-work that he gives is extremely unnecessary. If youre taking another demanding class, dont take this one. The homework alone will leave you swamped. You have so much work to do that its impossible to find time to study for quizzes and exams.
Ted rocks. 'Nuff said. Really though, he's hilarious, an awesome lecturer - he's passionate about chemistry, but fun and fresh enough that he can connect to the students. I wish I had Ted for all of Gen Chem. In lab he sneaks around, monitoring you, but listening, and offering advice without being asked. He's like the Merlin of Chemistry.
Horrible teacher, strict grader, rude towards students questions, and only lets you email him like a couple times before telling you he won't respond anymore. Like wth..?
I took his online chemistry course and you have to study like 7 different postings to find specific due dates because they're super inconsistent. Three different postings said all discussions were due Sundays at 11 p however there is one line that you find that says the first discussion is due Friday. I emailed him and was still dropped.
Dedicated to your success within the class. When he noticed I was struggling, he reached out to me directly and went above and beyond to work with me throughout the term. There are some discrepancies between the math requirements and labs but Ted adjusted quickly/fairly offering alternative assignments and revised material and grading scales.
Ted was my Organic Chemistry teacher. I have been at three Universities and he is still one of my favorite teachers. He cares about the students. He reaches out if you are struggling. He is passionate about chemistry and helping you learn. The class is naturally hard but he is every step of the way there to help. If you make the effort, Ted will.
I signed up for summer term a bit late bit Ted was generous to accept me in. His class will be a bit confusing if you do not look in d2l often. There were times that I was lost but he was very helpful to put me on track. His labs and quizzes are very clear. There is homework, I am sure anyone who follows along will do great. Definitely recommend!
I've never had a professor provide this high a level of organization with regard to assignments, due dates, things that will help me succeed and opportunities to gain extra credit. He is very flexible if you are communicative and you actually put in the work. One of the top few teachers I've ever taken a class from in an ego free learning space.
I only came here to say that he is the best professor I had at PCC!
This was my first class back on campus in two years and I'm glad that I got as good of a teacher as him. Was incredibly supported in the labs and provided materials that helped me excel in the lecture portion
I would take Ochem all over again with him. I love Ted, he seems so serious at first but he's actually hilarious! He's so good at what he does and has so much knowledge but doesn't make you feel like a dummy because he's really caring. Wonderful teacher and I will truly miss him.
I took the entire organic chemistry track with Ted. I highly, highly recommend him. He's a truly terrific instructor and I will miss him and his class a lot! Be prepared to do a lot of work, but know that Ted will work with you to ensure your success.
Highly recommend taking his class. Mine was online and his online structure was set up amazingly. Lots of homework but no tests just quizzes. He gives great feedback and helps you understand if you arent comprehending something. I failed my last Chem class miserably and havent dropped below a 95% in his class.
This was all online so yes you have to read a little more. I found YouTube helpful with concepts that were not explained so well in the lecture portion. Some of the questions for H.W were really confusing. Every week is the same, lecture, discussion post, lab, quiz. Accepts late work, I think too picky on grading. Overall easy but tedious.
Great instructor, can easily take points on labs but overall isn't a harsh grader. Kinda hard to learn from him sometimes. I would ask a question and he would give me the answer and when I ask for more explaining it;s a simple explantion but I don't understand it sometimes. Over all a great professor
Professor Picciotto is amazing. Very fair grader, lenient on deadlines, and helpful. He is quick to respond to emails. Labs are tedious and time consuming, but that is to be expected with a laboratory course. Overall an interesting & informative class. I would take all of my science courses with Ted if I could.
Labs were interesting. One week grace period on all assignments really saved me a couple times. Quick to reply to emails, and cares about students. Would take again if I needed more science classes!
This is one of the best classes I've ever taken. Ted's a phenomenal instructor who cares about his students' success, both in class and in their careers. He connects the material to the real-world, and is relatable and funny! He was also very understanding when it came to life challenges, and I felt like I belonged, even when I was struggling
Ted was an absolutely amazing professor. He cares so much about his student's success and always accommodates those who need it. Ted has made the content so approachable and also so relatable at times. I felt comfortable in this class asking questions and working together in groups. I 100% would recommend taking this course with Ted!
Really great class! There is a lot to do most weeks, but it is manageable if you keep up and participate. For my class, we had a whole week to turn in something late for full credit, which was great. But I still definitely recommend keeping up with everything. I'm not a science person, but this Prof made everything approachable. I recommend!
He sends out emails relating to scholarship/internship opportunities and really wants the students to understand the material. He explains things in different ways and often uses real life examples that make the concepts easier to understand. By far one of the best professors I've had.
He makes it very difficult to score higher than ‘above average' on his quizzes and exams. Hard to predict what details you're missing from lectures and assignments until after you get them wrong. Relentless homework and lab reports. Mastering Chemistry is an expensive, complete waste of time. Avoid if you have other classes or a job.
Ted was very lenient with his deadlines, always available via email, and willing to work with us to help us understand how chemicals we used daily were affecting our environment. The class wasn't easy, but he made it easier to understand.
He was a great professor. Class was enjoyable and pretty chill.
Ted's approach to training o-chemists is more like learning algebra than rote memorization like biology. He demands repetitions and the work needed to lift the weight of o-chem while recognizing effort and progress. You will need minimal studying for MCAT/DAT - even for new topics. Game changer instructor and an absolute privilege to learn from.
Organic chemistry is a challenging subject, but he explains the material clearly and makes it much easier to follow. He's consistently available through office hours and email, and he also offers MCAT tutoring for students who want extra help. Overall, a supportive and effective instructor. Highly recommend.
