This is one of the best teacher that I have had. Dr. Preston really knows the subject of philosophy very, and has a fun way of teaching it to students.
Great teeacher knows his material!
He is a great professor, he is very organized, which makes keeping up with the school work very easy. His work is very condensed but not too much to handle if u keep on top of it. His sarcasm is hilarious and he prepares u for his tests very thoroughly. U will have fun learning about philosophy from him.
awesome teacher!he should get a raise, seriously
Awesome
I went into this class absolutely dreading philosophy, but he made the class easy and enjoyable! Also, he's very well organized, and extremely smooth when he talks, so he never loses your attention for a second. Homework is thought provoking, but not difficult at all, and tests and quizzes are extremely easy. Over all a great teacher :)
Maybe it was just for the summer 2006 session but he was late on maybe 4 different accounts to class. Why go to a class where the teacher expects you to be on time when he himslef is not?
smart guy
Awesome!
USES INCOMPREHENSIBLE WORDS FOR NO REASON IT WOULD BETTER BE OFF IF HE WASNT REDUNDANT
Smart guy. One professor you can trust. He knows philosophy like no other. Well of course because he has a Ph.D. Grading system may be tough to get an A but do all the work and you should be good. You learn a great deal of philosophy from this class.
WAS GREAT AT EXPLAING EVERYTHING IN THE MOST SIMPLIEST FORMS. DONT BUMB OUT IF YOU GET A BAD GRADE ON THE FIRST TEST. GOT AN F ON THE FIRST (10%) BUT ENDED UP WITH A B IN THE CLASS. WAS ONE OF THE MOST MEMORABLE TEACHERS AND IS EASY TO TALK TO HIM. RECOMEND TO TAKE IT FOR SURE.
This class really did make me smarter, reading and trying to understand the book started out difficult, even for an avid reader such as myself, but it became easier. I wouldn't say its a hard class, but my friends had trouble with the complexity of the readings in the textbook.
He knows philosophy like the back of his hand. He is a good teacher, has fair tests(he tells you what he will be putting in the tests), and he is not a snob. He uses big words so your vocabulary will probably expand after this class. Take him.
He really makes you enjoy the class and wonder about the context of phiolosophy. The best teacher I had so far.
Great teacher Great class not too much hwk...learned a lot
Great. Is very helpful and understanding. He treats his students with a high level of respect. I loved his class because i learned alot that i still remember. He makes his own text, so you wont have to waste time reading useless info. READ YOUR TEXT. TRust me it will be worth it.
His teaching is rather abstract. But its helpful cause it grabs your attention like a viral video on youtube And he used youtube videos in his lessons. Which shows the guy is no pompous snob.
he is AWESOME.SO HELPFUL and his class is real intersting, he respects his students and you can tell. real amiable and nice. great instructor as well.
This class does challenge you to think. I took the hybrid class so only quizzes and exams were online. I found this class interesting. I loved his teaching style. He is very helpful and will explain things to you if you ask. If you take Philosophy take him.
Good guy, he also supports gay rights. You'll learn lots from from, take him if you can.
AMAZING! He provides his own notes, but the reading is helpful. You do not need to read the book in order to pass the class with an "A", as long as YOU GO TO CLASS. Attendance and being on time are CRUCIAL- do not be late- he deducts points.
Pretty cool and smart guy. Gives grat lectures during class.Really gets your attention throught class.Makes you think twice about everything you know.
He is awesome! and awesome to look at! This used to be a distraction but now it just motivates me to go to class!
Dr. Preston is sooooo sexy! aside from that he is truly an amazing teacher.
I took him when I first started school (Intro to PHL) because I needed a G.E. class. But once I took one class, I couldn't help but take another one. Next thing I know, I'm about to graduate with my B.A. in Philosophy. Dr. Preston is very helpful and very fun!
BRILLIANT!!!! HEHE
If you value life-long learning and real-life knowledge applicapable to any and all aspects of life, you'll value Dr. Preston. Thus you will value Philosophy and Dr. Preston will value you in return. Best regards.
I doubt Dr. Preston will read this since he is far from egotisitcal, but if you are, I love you and your class
I really loved this class...it opens a door to higher understanding of the world as it is...
It's rare when students get to meet a professor that is brilliant and passionate. Preston is extremely down to earth, and speaks to you as a person, as opposed to some inferior being. I have to say he is one of the best teachers I have ever had in my history of learning. ever.
Didn't look forward to this class, but I really enjoyed and Aced it. It's advised that you do the reading but I stopped after 2 days: Just listen. Lowest exam score dropped, alternates between Mult. Choice one time and Short/Essay answer the next, etc. I recommend you study for them because you must really know your stuff for those essay questions.
Very passionate about his area of expertise, knows his stuff, and is genuinely trying to teach you something! Brilliant professor! Although, yes, you DO have to take the time to study! Like I said, he's trying to teach you something, so listen!
Dr. Preston is an amazing philosopher that always takes a little time to answer questions that any student may have. he is passionate about philosophical thinking and simplifies it through rationality so that even if you are not an aspiring philosopher, u can still see the beauty of philosophy with clarity. he is a great mentor to all phil majors
TAKE HIS CLASS!! He is a great professor. Very intelligent, professional, respectful, passionate, direct, honest, and just straight-up good at Philosophy. Take his class and you will come out with a new outlook. You will be much more educated. Do you homework, go to class and pay attention and you will do great. By the way, he's interesting, too.
I am proud to be one of his philosophy students, Dr. Preston is an awesome professor who is alway willing to help his pupils in order to nurture the inquiring mind. his aproach to making philosophy practical to life as opposed to just academic really makes the subject more apealing.
Took him for Ancient Philosophy. gotta say, one of the best teachers ive ever had. BRILLIANT PROFESSOR with a great understanding and perspective of philosophy. Take him, it'll be so worth it. Tests are easy, lots of reading, but you dont need to read everything since he explains it all in class. GO TO CLASS.
Took his honors class and it was seriously one of the best course and one of the best professors i've ever taken other than padgett. Tests can be tough it you dont understand the concept 100%
hated the idea of philosophy before this class and now i like philosophy
Preston! He's really good at teaching his subject. PHD in Philosophy, what do you expect? The room may get you sleepy and his soft/low voice but if you listen in, you'll pass. I got an A. Never studied once (never missed either) He's clear and paints a picture for you so you won't forget what he says. Made his own book too $10. Take him!(hottie!)
Good teacher. Just his desire overcomes his reason.
Awesome teacher. Passionate about his subject. tests will be tough if you skip or dont pay attention! Overall one of my best instructors at RIO.
Awesome teacher! Very dedicated to his work and making you understand. Entertaining.
One of the best professors on the Rio Hondo campus. He cares about his students and will help you through the class, just as long as you pay attention and take notes. Take it from someone who has taken pretty much all of his classes... They will make you love philosophy as much as he does.
Took his online course. Out of the few I have taken online, he has actually used voice-over to help explain the class powerpoints in greater depth (very helpful!).
Awesome Professor! I learned so much from him! Great Professor!
If your not taking his class, you are missing out. I had the hybrid class (lecture and online) and I regret it so much because I loved his lectures! tests and exams are based on his notes. btw, hes so mesmerizing when he does his lectures ;)
I was already interested in philosophy before and I heard about Mr. Preston's class from friends. He was an awesome teacher, very enthusiastic. Everything on the test is basically in his notes, just pay attention and you'll do fine.
THis professor has a passion for philosophy and he teaches it with clarity!! This is one of the best classes I have ever taken!! Alot of abstract thinking! He explains the material very well and class was super organized w/ what he expects to be on exams!! I LoVe Him!!
Amazing professor who clearly loves what he does. He is very clear in what he's looking for and e-mails back quickly. His lectures were interesting and the open book tests were very easy. Very encouraging and engaging. This was probably my favorite class at Rio.
Took his online ethics class. Just had one quiz every week. No additional work. As long as you read the lectures and study guide's you will easily pass. Very cool subject. This took this on a whim and ended up really enjoying it.
Earned an A in this online class! one quiz each week with only 5 question that where multiple choice and short essay questions. No need to purchase book because he provides the live lecture powerpoints!! Overall great class and interesting! Love Philosophy and its my major! :)))))))
Because of the online format of this class, I thought I was not going to enjoy this class. However, Dr. Preston's online lectures were quite interesting and not nearly as boring as I thought they were going to be. He broke down difficult subject matter and it easily understandable. I would absolutely take another class by this professor
Ph. D Preston is one of Rio Hondo's best professors. He makes a tough subject easy to understand with his textbook (he wrote and made affordable) and does so with complete clarity. As long as you do the readings and show up, you should have no problem earning a good grade.
I took the class online, listen to lectures is a must and book is helpful. 5 question quizzes which includes 1 short essay format answer. No online chat class participation required. Great teacher.
This class was amazing, enjoyed this class overall! Great instructor, he always knows what hes talking about!
Mr. Preston is a great professor, he makes philosophy easy to understand and takes the time to help students understand as well. His test are open book but as long as you do the online 40 min presentation and answer the questions you'll do great. Alot of abstract thinking which is also great. Overall I really do recommend this class!! :)
Ted Preston is a wonderful professor and he is very thorough with his lectures. They can get a little in depth sometimes but that is the purpose of philosophy. Overall, the class is not hard, just analyse the book he wrote and be open minded and you are guaranteed an A.
Great professor, very caring. Sometimes the lectures can get confusing and go by fast. try to do the reading before and it will help. Uses the book a lot so you will need it, but its cheap. 3 extra credit points if you never miss and never come late. hes a great professor! very nice! and caring! i would recommend.
The material is hard to understand just pay attention when he interprets what other philosophers theories are about a subject. That's the whole class, explaining the theories of philosophers. U mess up on one test, there goes ur chances for an A.
This class consists of: 11 open book quizzes, midterm, and final. All you need for this class is the textbook, which by the way he wrote. This class is fairly easy, recommend this class for the self-disciplined student.
Probably the best teacher I ever had. He loves what he does and you can tell. A fulfilling class.
Great teacher; loves and knows what he is talking about. Keeps students engaged and entertained on the subject and is very knowledgeable! I hope to take another course with him in the future.
This was by far one of the best classes that there is. I took the online class and it was easy. Your grade consists purely of quizzes a midterm and final. You have a quiz that is due every friday and is only five questions you can use your notes even for midterm and final. Your only work is reading the short readings and taking the quiz by friday.
This class was incredible. Professor Preston is amazing, he knows what he's talking about and loves it. Wrote the textbook for the class which is incredibly easy to understand. You have to really not care to not get an A. Tests are open book so you can't fail. He's also really attractive and muscular. His intelligence makes him a solid 10.
Professor Preston is amazing. He won't baby you in any way but he clearly tells you what he expects and it's up to you to do the work. He's one of the smartest men I've ever met! Such a good person, good sense of humor, and definitely works with you. If you have good communication with him, he's got your back.
Professor Preston was my hybrid Phil 101 class instructor... loved that the book (written by him) is affordable and easy to comprehend. The set up of the class was great, lectures and notes were found online and the quiz's were taken each class meeting, making attendance is super important. Great professor.
Very passionate about what he teaches. Lets you use textbook(which he wrote and only costs $20) on tests. If you attend class and put in the effort in trying to understand the material, you should be fine.
Professor Preston is very passionate towards what he teaches and overall is very good at it. Class consists of about 6 tests and a paper as the final. The tests are fairly short, and he lets you use the book that was written by him. However, attendance is mandatory. It WILL hurt your grade if absents/tardies become frequent.
I cant say enough good things about Professor Preston. Although I am an English major, this class has by far been my favorite of all. I found his teaching approach very interesting which made the class enjoyable and make you want to work hard. It was evident that he was very intelligible. Would recommend everyone to take this class.
He is by far one of my favorite professors. He classes were enjoyable and he is very informative and passionate on the subject. I highly recommend taking his class. The class was easy, it was a hybrid class. He assigned us readings from a book he wrote but honestly his lectures basically covered everything. Just listen and you'll do fine.
Great teacher!! He is funny and cares about his students! He goes over his PowerPoint and makes lectures fun!! He is easy to relate to! I highly recommend him!!
I heard good things about this prof. He is knowledgeable and wrote the textbook for this class. He is caring, muscular, hot, and divorced too!
This guy single-handedly inspired me to pursue a minor in Philosophy after my transfer. I now find myself purchasing philosophical books to read in my off time. His passion is amazing. The guy even has philosophical terms tattoo'd on his forearms. Exams are your entire grade and they are open book so the highlighter is your best friend.
One of the greatest proffesors at Rio. His lectures are the best any philosophy lextures could be. I highly recomend taking this class for this proffesor alone .10/10 would do again
Dr. Preston is one of the best instructors on campus. He is super friendly, and he will help you out if you have any questions. He really, really loves philosophy and that makes the class so much more enjoyable. He takes a complicated subject and makes it easy to understand.
Took this professor for an intercession class. Philosophy isn't the most interesting subject but he made it fun. Just pay attention to the lectures and try to learn and he just might change your outlook on life :)
it was an 8 week class pretty easy if you study the stuff on the study guides. online test due fridays and one midterm and final were short answer essay types. you have to back up your answer and provide info. he lets you use textbook for tests. You NEED the textbookk
SUPER INTERESTING GUY! He really opened my eyes to philosophy and made me really look within. His lectures are super interesting and he really does a good job at incorporating real life issues. His book and slideshows and lectures are super cohesive since theyre all by him. Just read and study and youll be fine. Seriously, take him.
Was very helpful and clear to understand, very interesting course!
A really great professor, he made Philosophy really interesting. It made me think about life a little more and the way people think. Exams are not hard, doing the extra credit is a big help.
Really easy class. Makes philosophy really interesting. Pretty simple class, show up, take notes, and take 6 tests. Lets you use the book for test and yes you do need the book.
Pretty fair easy class. Show up to class, take tests. You need the book, would recommend showing up to class everyday cause it helps you get a few point towards finals. Need to study if you want a passing grade. But overall its an an easy class. Should have received an A but missed by 3 points on final.
He's super uptight
Excellent professor. I walked in not knowing a thing about Philosophy, but he keeps things interesting by connecting real world events with his lectures. I recommend reading the book, you get more out of the class, plus its an easy read. Philosophy makes you a better critical thinker. Important to be able to see the other side. Highly recommend.
I took Phil 101 Honors, and it was VERY laid back for an honors course. It was not easy since Philosphy is new material for me, but Professor Preston made it so much easier to comprehend with his clear lectures, study guides, and guidance. Tests are short-essay questions, but are also open book and it helps to complete the study guides.
I wanted to drop his class 1st week but a friend persuaded to stay through. He aint joke about 6 Exams + Final. Shocker. I was like hell nah he crazy for a 101 class but ya cant judge before taken the time to realize Its an open book Exam. Dont copy word for word though, majority of us did & he canceled on the 1st warn. Hes a real cool dude tbh
Just a great guy who knows what he's teaching. Really enjoyed his class and want to take another coarse that he teaches.
Took his winter session course. Boring class but a pretty easy A! The quizzes are timed and the midterm and final were both open book so there EASY... Honestly I didnt read the book because each chapter takes FOREVER to read. I wasnt stressed at all and passed with an A. Be careful though do every assignment or youll probably end up with a B!
I took his winter hybrid course and the class was not that bad. Super fast paced and lots of reading. He definitely makes the lectures easy to understand and always offers help. The online quizzes were timed as well as the short essay final and midterm. However, the midterm and final are both open book so you're good to go.
Professor Preston made philosophy more easier to understand. He gives out examples for each concept he teaches. He sometimes also put us in groups to prepare us the exams. The exams are all essay questions, but don't worry he doesn't grade by grammar or structure. He grades them by if you got all the details right for the concepts learned.
He is a very good Professor . I enjoy his class, especially video lecture. It is very easy to understand . The video is not that long and contain important points of the lessons that needs for homework and exam .
I took Prof. Prestons PHIL/POLS128H and I absolutely loved it. As long as you watch lectures and you read the content you will do great. He's always available and responds fairly quickly. Fair grader, drops your lowest quiz grade/discussion. Easy to get a good grade and he wants to give out A's.
Dr. Preston is a really great professor. He cares so much for his students. Very funny at times and is always willingly to answer any questions you may have. He helps you to critically think about the topics in philosophy. Grade is mostly based on discussions, exams, and exam corrections. Only thing extra for the Honors section is a final paper.
Professor Preston's class was interesting. His class was online but his weekly assignments and quizzes were very easy. Just make sure to complete everything on time, watch his lecture videos and you will pass with flying colors. Highly recommend his class! He seemed like a cool professor overall.
The best teacher I've ever had and the wisest man I've ever met. The textbook won't run you up too much and it's very well-written. Everything that you need to know/is on the test is in the textbook. Use office hours, they are your best friend and a good time to learn about the class/life. 10/10 recommend. I could go on but there's a word limit.
Dr. Preston is amazing once again. His exams are fairly easy because he lets you use the book, but you have to go in detail so that you can do good on the paper. The paper is the only thing for the honors section that is additionally required. The only thing is that I think there should have been another exam for the purpose of the paper.
The hardest class you will ever take along with the easiest A you will ever earn. He is the type of teachers that cares more about what you learned in his class than the amount of work you submitted. Take this class to learn not about the world but more about yourself.very few discussions and a simple one-page midterm to pass with an A.
Professor Preston is a great teacher and loves to teach. It was a tough class to do online if you are not computer savvy. If you are taking this class for credit, maybe take this class in person.
With a laid-back demeanor, he makes the subject approachable. The course strikes a harmonious balance between depth and simplicity. His teaching style fosters an engaging environment where students can delve into philosophical concepts easily. An ideal choice for those who appreciate a relaxed yet intellectually stimulating approach to philosophy.
Professor Preston was a great one for my intro to Philosophy. Has a very calm, sharp demeanor, and his course is graded off a couple of quizzes, and a midterm/final (exempt from final if you have an A). Textbook is required, but it's written by him. All information needed for the class will be found in the book and lectures. I would take him again!
He was such a good professor, understanding if you are late on assignments. Honors requirement is not difficult at all. He is actually passionate about what he teaches.
Dr. Preston is amazing. I was fortunate to be able to take Ancient History of Philosophy with him because it can be a difficult class to find with a good instructor like Dr. Preston. He is very helpful and understanding. Grade is based on quizzes, discussions, small surveys, a midterm course check-in, and personal reflections. Definitely recommend.
Dr. Preston is a great professor. His lectures are really interesting. Grade is based on quizzes, a midterm and final personal reflections, building better argument assignments, and other small assignments. Make sure to stay on top of the assignments or you can be penalized for lateness. Overall, great class and definitely recommend for ethics.
Dr. Preston is wonderful. His lectures are great to watch. Grade is based on surveys, other small assignments, quizzes, discussions, ikigai exercises that are quite reflective and personally beneficial, and a midterm and final personal reflections. Make sure to submit everything on time. Overall, definitely recommend for Global Perspectives.
