His teaching style is very confusing. Hard to stay on task. Tests are extermely difficult. Be prepared to work hard to get a "C". P.S. Gross Profit!!!
very confusing, his jokes are not funny. you can't fall behind, once you do you'll fail
He is not very helpful in class-you are just there to listen-Even if you read all the chapters, you are very lucky to get a "C"!
If you worry about your GPA or passing make a study group as soon as possible. If you don't you will not pass. Lectures are really boring and dry. He doesn't take the time to answer your question always putting them off.
very confusing teacher, i would recommend taking someone else if possible. he knows his material but you run into problems in his class.
He is nice but not a good teacher. It is hard to understand his lectures. I learn more reading the book than with his lectures. His tests are hard and a little confusing. If u want to get an A or B in the class dont take him cuz its nearly impossible.
Really nice guy, funny sense of humour, but i found his class to be very confusing. I gave up after the second test (after drop date, i let myself drown). If youre willing to put up the effort why not, be warned though, his class is a toughie.
very bad teacher
The class is impossible. He's doesn't explain thigs well at all. His tests are brutal. Do your self a favor; don't take him.
Very difficult and extremly hard to understand and teacher doesn't help at all. Tests are very difficult.
HE IS A NICE GUY BUT HIS TEACHING METHODS ARE LITTLE DRY. I HAD TO REALLY TEACH MYSELF. I MUST ADMIT, I LOVE HIS 20 PONIT CURVES. THIS SHOULD GIVE YOU AN IDEA ABOUT THE TEST SCORES.
Mr. Skekel's lectures are not helpful. His notes are unclear and badly organized. I found really no benefit in attending his classes and ended up doing most of the learning on my own. His test curves are the only plus. I don't recommend Dr. Skekel.
YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!!!You think being taught by a monkey would be hard, well then you haven't seen nothing yet. This guy can't even answer a yes or no question without trying to be an accounting badass(whatever that is). Those who can't teach, teach gym.
u wanna understand ACC. U wanna make an A or B or C.... It's not the right class
DO NOT TAKE THIS GUY,I REPEAT,DO NOT TAKE THIS GUY.his quizzes have 10 different forms online, you only get two tries, whatever you get on the 2nd try is your grade, his tests are hard, you cannot get an A in his class, you will likely get a D

DO NOT TAKE SKEKEL...he is very difficult, not helpful, and you will walk out of his class more confused than when you went in!!! Do what you can to stay out...take ACCT at SAC if you have to! It counts the same.
I really don't think he's as bad as people say. Class can be kind of pointless because of friday labs, but he knows what he's talking about and will help you if you need it. I think he tries to help as much as possible by posting gobs of information on WebCT and holding review sessions.
It seems like those that are not fond of Skekel, don't want to put any effort into their college courses. I thought he was a great professor. If you are an accounting major, take Skekel! He is tough at times, but the effort you put into his class will pay off come Intermediate Acct.
Good professor as long as you are willing to read the chapters and go to labs for quizzes. Overall i would reccommend taking accounting with Skekel, unless your of less than average intelligance. then try sac
I walk in with a sound mind and walk out with a cluttered one.
He is a hard teacher who has hard tests and boring classes dont take this class
Ted is a good professor. Had in grad school so don't know about undergrad, but his class was straightforward and fair. You get out of it what you put into it.
Someone told me to take Skekel because he was easy. If by "easy" they meant "confusing, pompous, and doesn't like to tell us what's on the exams" then they would be correct.
Ted Skekel is not a phenomenal teacher, quite mediocre, but definitely not hard. If you are able to read the chapters, go to class on a regular basis, than take skekel; If you constitute a good teacher on the basis where they feed you the answer in class, than drop out a go back to high school.
He seems like a nice guy, but his tests are hard--even if you study and go to the review seesions. THe reviews don't have anything to do with the test.
Have you ever had a teacher who does not give a s**t about you?? If you would like to take accounting from Dr.Skekel. God help yall who take him.
Dr. Skekel never followed what he said in class. His tests WERE NOTHING LIKE the lecture. I went to a number of study groups and review sessions. I got it then and felt prepared but when it came to the test....? He doesnt understand that if the whole class fails, something is wrong.
Prof. Skekel is not a professor tha I would recommend to someone else.
Stay away! It was horrible experience for me. Like everyone else has said everytime I felt that I had studied well and was prepared for his tests...Dr Skekel made sure I was wrong. His tests are NOTHING like his reviews!!! If it wasnt for Jesus (our ACC lab guy) then I would have failed miserably!:(
First,Dr. Skekel is hard but it is good for those who major in accounting. I take ACC I with him, I struggle for an "A".Second, now I take ACC II with another professor. I felt it is easy because Skekel give me a great basic background. I will take class with him if possible. Good and helpful TA, too
Prone to Academic Flights of Fancy....meaning he will wander off topic...alot! He enjoys the technical aspects of Accounting which is probably why he teaches instead of practices. Nice guy, but not a great teacher.
he sucks please listen to this or you will be in for a rude awakening
Extremely rude, HORRIBLE teacher. I have an uncle, who is a CPA in the business world, told me me he was an awful teacher. That is sad when you are known in the business world as a horrible teacher. He doesn't explain anything and asks questions that trip up his own TA's.
Very hard, very boring. The accounting lab will be your saving grace. Got to the point where I couldn't go to his class except for labs because I couldn't understand anything he said and had to have the TA doing the lab explain everything clearly. Bad experience and bad grade.
This guy was horrible. As everyone says, the only reason i passed was because of Jesus Mendoza(the lab guy). He seems to think that everyone has been in accounting forever and understands everything. I got a very good grade because I studied constantly, and never stopped. DONT TAKE HIM!!!!!
He was VERY RUDE to students and expected everyone to already know the material. He was very unhelpful, gave misleading reviews, and difficult exams. Avoid him!

This guy is the worst. He babbles off topic a lot and then doesn't teach the material. Furthermore, he'll say something is/isn't on the test, and then you'll find out its the opposite. I do not recommend this professor. He's crazy.
To all you non-business majors...STAY AWAY from this man!! He is unpredictable and socially intolerable! He said in class that..."If you can't brave the ACC offered at UTSA - then go to SAC or another lower-level educational facility"! I dropped his class shortly thereafter. DO NOT take this man...Take Gary Lane Bridges. I got an awesome grade!!!
Worst professor ever!! He makes up exams the night before, so he can't tell you what you'll need to study. The only reason I did well was because of the ACC labs on Fridays with Buddy Vargas. He was patient and intelligent, unlike our professor.
He isn't as bad as everyone says. I have had better instructors, but he definitely isn't as horrible as the ratings make him seem.
Skekel isn't as bad as these people made him out to look. He was helpful in answering any questions we had. It is true that he makes the exams the night before and therefore can't exactly tell you what is on it, but then again, you aren't in HS to be studying what is only on a test. As long as you understand concepts, you'll be fine in the class...

WORST TEACHER AT UTSA. Don't take him..he is horrible. If you get stuck with him hope the T.A. is Jesus. Cause he's the only one who can save you.
Good luck I don't think you can get the 30 hours without taking good old Ted.
Dr. Skekel is an awesome instructor! I took this course in the summer and I got an A! There are tons of homework, and it's very helpful if you do them. Of course you have to work hard to get a good grade. His humor may be filled with sarcasm but he is approachable and very helpful if you have questions (just be specific with your queries!)
He is a horrible teacher. Does not care about the students...seems like he has too much else going on to be teaching a class. Says one thing is going to be tested, and come test time it is totally different. Problems on test are never similar to homeworj, or problems in class...AVOID him if possible
This was my second time to have a course taught by Dr. Skekel. If you do as you're expected that classes are still challenging, but he can tell those who study from those who just show for class or just the exams. And that can make the difference between a letter grade itself.
Class a bit difficult, but if you go to class and do the homework he assigns not too bad, and he gives you take home projects which help boost grade. Not nearly as bad as many posts say.
The Devil himself could not create a worse professor...He WILL NOT help you outside of classroom, simply ignores requests for help. Somehow has been teaching for many years...Easily the worst teacher in the College of Business
Easily the worst professor I've had at this school. Takes roll on a 300 member class. Takes away your attendance if you leave early (2 minutes). Petty tyrant. Not responsive to questions. Puts you down for asking them. Teaching style: very unclear, rambles alot, doesn't make good use of our time. Computer illiterate. Avoid like the plague!
Dr. Skekel, in my opinion, is a very good prof. Awesome for ACC majors! Has great study guides and projects to help review for the tests. If you show up at his office times, he is more than happy to help you! Does take attendance, but if you do have to leave early make sure you talk to the attendance person (Jay), who is usually very understanding.
horrible!!! do not take him!!!
Worst Class/Teacher EVER! This guy is out of control!
I came into this class knowing nothing about accounting. Skekel was a great teacher who helped me understand everything. The class is tough, but accounting is not easy. He is very helpful if you have questions and the tests are straight from the notes (he provides) and the book. Great class if you are really here to learn

Great guy, knowledgeable but... can’t teach. Grades tests extremely slow, says it will be ready tomorrow by noon, did not get it back till 12 days later. You have to study hard and know your stuff. All I can say is, study groups it’s the only way to pass. Find someone who gets it and learn from them. I should have paid them the tuition
this teacher, (if you can call him that): does not teach, lectures over material that doesn't relate to the class, doesn't go over all the problems in his worksheets, takes roll in a class of 300, has no sense of humor, thinks everyone in class are accounting majors...i could go on but theres a max of 359 letters. i busted my ass and got a D.
The class is not easy to start with, but he tried to explain everything as best as he could you have to read the book and understand or if not your retaking the class. Watch out for the first exam its the wake up call.. third exam is definetely the hardest so get ready overall if you an acct major take him he is the best. go to tutoring it helps.
I would not recommend this class for a summer course. I worked an additional 25 -30 hours a week outside of class and still made a "B" and I consider myself a good student. In my class, there were no curves applied or extra credit offered. We covered 11 chapters in less than 20 class days with 10 quizzes given. Sound tough? It was.
Straight-up honest professor. He'll tell you the first day that his class requires extra work...and in order to grasp the material...DO THE WORK. However, for those willing to put in effort, the class becomes easy and possibly even fun for those who are interested in accounting and business.
Dr. Skekel expects you do have done the preperatory work before class and expects you to learn the material, not just learn what will be on the test. If you are hoping to get easy credits, you will be disappointed.
class structured so U don't have 2 do well on exams to make the grade; U can maintain Ur avg. w/ the "cases." He's sarcastic, but but only if you give a reason to be. He was VERY helpful & accomodating (let me reschedule exam even though i asked ON THE DAY OF). He made a mistake on the syll, & honored it--totally to the class's benefit!
Dr.skekel is rude and very hard. On 1st exam only 75students passed out of about 300 then puts the class down sayin "we're lazy that we aint trying", I know that im tryn study so much feel like my head goin pop off. I don't like his rude comments. During lectures he is confusing and goes off the subject a lot & acts like everyone majoring in ACCT.
One of the WORST professors I have ever had...He goes way to fast on the material...before I got a chance to fully understand a chapter, he was already on the next. When will UTSA get rid of this guy??? Very RUDE and not helpful WASTE OF $$$$ DO NOT TAKE HIM!!!
Class average = 56....Quote from Syllabus "Make up work or Extra credit: Dont even ask. If you ask for extra credit I deserve the right to deduct 10 points"...."No make up exams will be offered". He doesnt curve either...DONT TAKE HIM...even if hes a last resort and you need to fill a class..Dont Do it, you'll make the same mistake I made..I DROPPE
Mr.Skekel is tough as opposed to most professors because he strict and his rules are stiff. You have to take the initiative to learn on your own or you'll def. be lost and you'll never catch up. Consider class notes as reinforcement. He can be unaccomodating. More than 2/3 of the class was failing but he still wouldn't let up on the gas pedal.
This prof. was the worst teacher i've ever had!!!! When he teaches he goes off on rabbit trails leading nowhere. Couldn't understand a thing. If you devote all your time in this course then theres a possibility that you may pass.
Good professor. Gives a great balance between theory and problem solving. Material can be difficult, but he presents it in a good way. It is his book, which can be annoying, but overall I think it has been good. He wont answer emails and can be slow to grade. He is a nice guy just stretched thin. I would recommend him for this class.
This is a very difficult class, but not necessarily because of the professor. He knows the material very well without a doubt but his tests are often deceptive and include slightly more material than time really allows for.
One of th worst profs i've taken. Most of the time in lecture the just rambles about who knows what, doesn't really take the time to teach the material well. Takes attendance every day in class, so if you miss more than 4 classes you're average will drop by one letter grade and so on. If you can you should definitely take someone else!!
Terrible teacher. When I had questions he never answered his phone or rtnd emails. Doesn't lecture about what will be tested on-just goes off on tangents. Gave a lengthy project right before finals. No curves & takes attendance EVERY day. Can be very rude in class. My advise to anyone who thinks about taking him - DONT!
This is the worst professor that I've ever had at this school. Homework problems are nothing like quizzes, and neither of those are anything resembling problems on the test. He has no idea how to teach students, and frequently gives wrong information. The book is the only thing that kept me afloat this semester. Lectures are pointless. Good luck.
He belittles students for asking q's and uses examples that don’t relate to the material. The tests are exceptionally hard, often over material that was advanced beyond the scope of our class. His tests seemed to be purposefully malicious. The class average (after over 1/2 dropped) was a 60%! This professor should be removed from the faculty.
He is a very poor teacher. Very sarcastic. Reacts very negatively to questions. During lectures goes off tangent. I would avoid taking any class with him if possible. Tests are tremendously difficult. He doesn't do any review for the tests. Absolutely the worst teacher...and seems to really despise students.
This guy has got to be one of the worst... He has no teacher to student relationship, corny jokes, and babbles off of the subject. You must use your textbook to help you as much as possible. Miyuki is a terrible lab instructor also. She is very hard to understand. Try not to take this class with him. Good luck
this guy is horrible. never finished a example problem, unorganized, and the exam questions are not what like you learn in text. he is lucky for tenurship because in real world could not make it. avoid like the plague.
He is a nice person but cannot teach. READ THE BOOK! It is a very good book and I probably wouldn't have gotten through the class without it. Accounting is a hard subject by itself, so you do have to put more effort in this class than most. I ended up with a B. I would definitely choose him again over Vaello.
Intro to ACC - Class is hard even when you go to every class. He has a really bad attitude and doesnt care about students. He made typos on my exam & when I asked him to clarify the question he wouldn't even though it was his fault. If you can avoid him you should.
at first he seemed like a jerk and he was not helpfull but if you read your book and go to class you will be fine...and he also gives curves....quizzes are verry easy never studied for them and made all a's an ended up with an A in that class...strongly suggest taking him
THANK GOODNESS THE BOOK IS GREAT, BECAUSE HE IS AN AWFUL PROFESSOR. HE'S A SMART GUY BUT IS UNABLE TO CLEARLY PASS HIS KNOWLEDGE ON TO OTHERS. JUST READ THE BOOK AND YOU WILL BE FINE, ATTENDANCE IS IMPORTANT TOO. WHEN I TOOK HIM HE TOOK ROLE IN A CLASS OF LIKE 200+ STUDENTS. POOR GIRL
Explains the material well, which is helpful because these are tough classes. If you listen, read, and practice the problems, you'll do fine. Dr. Skekel is very fair and does a lot to make sure his students do well!
He is probably the worst teacher I have had in my college career. He didnt explain anything, expects you to already know things. Tests and quizzes are very hard. Project was ridiculously lengthly. Just DO NOT EVER TAKE HIM!!!!! And if you try to complain he is the department head...so you complain to him about well...him....so STAY AWAY!!!!
He is a miserable man who gets off on being condescending to his students. He does not dumb down the material to wear it is understandable at an introductory level. Projects were absurd. The final project was horrifying and he had half of it wrong himself in his key. When you ask a question he chuckles like you are an idiot. He sucks.
Attendance is mandatory, but don't count on learning the material from lectures. READ THE BOOK! For this course I understood the material much better by reading than by lectures. Although he does go over quite a few examples in class so that is helpful. He's a little boring too.
He says attendance is mandatory but he doesnt always check it. the class consists of 3 projects. he goes over them in class, so you get the correct answers. they tests are avg hard. this is a class that can be ok but needs quite a bit of work. if you are dedicate time to it the course is not terrible. he does chuckle at times, but is not that bad
This guy was the absolute worst professor I have ever had! He was unorganized, didn't grade our cases until AFTER the final grades were posted on ASAP. The final exam was ridiculous - long and not related to anything he lectured on! The only thing I learned in his class was to NEVER take him again!!
Most often than not, if you ask a question he belittles you right in front of class and either ignores you or just aks somenone else for a question. He is very rude, not helpful, and assigns sooo much stuff to do at the same time and rushes through his chapters, so make sure you can teach your self.
Despite previous comments, I do recommend this professor. His tests are very difficult, but he grades extremely fairly. He is amazing with partial credit. If you mess up a computation in the beginning of the problem but demonstrate understanding, he'll give you almost full credit. He can be forgetfull, but he knows what he's talking about.
I audited him for principles 1 and he took his time out to explain the concepts to me even though I wasn't in his class so I decided to take him again for Int 2.This was by far the most difficult class I ever took but he did explain things, he gave us projects which helped make things clearer. He is not there to baby sit you but you have work hard..
My opinion of this professor has less to do with his teaching and more to do with his professionalism. He is rude to students and horrible at answering questions. He will is also very unorganized and depends on another professor to post study material and projects on ASAP, making it difficult to know when you will recieve work and when it is due.

He expects us to know everything... anything that I ever learned in this class was self taught. If we had a question about what an acronym stood for he would tell us "it's too boring to explain." please do not take this professor.. take the other class.. 85% of my class is failing!
Full class, around 100 students and class average after final is 63%. Enough said.
Teaches like you've been in accounting classes before
