Nice person but can't teach. If you don't understand something and ask questions, she dodges answering you. Even if she does, she is terrible at clarifying the topics. Her answer for most things is to just go to the stats lab and ask them for help. She does not slow down and help those who have a hard time understanding things. Super tough course.

I took a stats class in high school and I really didn't understand statistical concepts until I took professor Mathews class. She made statistics fun, and I finally feel like I understand stats. She is so helpful too, and is always willing to meet students outside office hours for extra help. She is one of the best at GVSU.
Professor Matthews is a great lady who cares a lot about her students but is still difficult to sit with for an hour three times a week. Her teaching style is dry and hard to follow and she is not respected by her students, which gets frustrating. The class is also difficult, but as long as you do the assignments and pay attention, you'll be fine
Asha tries really hard to help her students understand. She generally understands the material, just lacks at teaching it. She is often corrected by the class and that is where she loses their respect. She does not give out review packets or go over any homework. She a nice person, just not the best professor.
She, in general, is a nice lady and is kind of helpful when you ask for it, but it's difficult to understand her lectures because the way she presents the material is not very clear. She runs through her notes fast so it's hard to grasp what she's trying to explain and she's also super picky about how you should answer problems.
She begins out teaching things super easy, but it gets exponentially harder as the semester goes on. She makes a huge point that she will be grading harder and harder as the semester goes on and she literally left no room for error in her grading. The grading scale is lower (87 is an A) but she makes it hard to get that high. SPSS are impotant
The semester starts easy but gets very hard. She lectures quickly but does several practice problems with the class. She is a very tough grader and leaves no room for error. She told our class that you can't argue with her because she is the professor (aka she's always right). Doesn't ask class for participation, she just speeds along.
She is such a great professor! made stats a breeze for me!
She speeds through the lecture notes like crazy and seems almost irritated when questions are asked. She says she's going to give us time to work on a problem, then will speed through the problem 30 seconds later. She grades VERY harsh, but is late to give back homework assignments, so you may not be able to make adjustments until after the test.
Overall she is an okay instructor. She speed through all the lectures so if you are not prepared to reteach yourself some things I wouldn't recommend her. Sometimes she gets confused and she talks very low. If you pass her tests and labs you should be fine.
Professor Mathews is a great teacher and a really nice instructor too. Though I didn't enjoy statistics, Professor Mathews made the content bearable and really clarified topics that I struggled with.
Speeds through lectures, that's the worst part about her though. She's a pretty good stats teacher, and I would definitely recommend her. She's very nice, and if you want help you need to seek it out.
She's difficult to understand when she presents the material. If you're a slower learner like I am, she is not the way to go. She goes too fast and doesn't give good explanations, more of a "that's just how it is" teacher.
This Professor was beyond awful! The material isn't hard to understand, but with this professor it will be much harder than it should be for the simple reason that she doesn't explain her work and goes based off powerpoints, she does no actual problem solving or work herself. Run to another professor if you can.
Don't stick with this Prof. Literally run from that class. I've never had a worse experience with a professor.
I had an easy time in this class. The only issue is she's not a fan of giving partial credit. If you miss a step in a problem it's completely wrong, which I guess is helpful to make sure you really know the material. Absolutely no extra credit. She knows what she's doing and she's organized. Attendance isn't counted but you'll miss InClass stuff
I would not recommend taking this professor. She grades incredibly tough and will mark you down for minor errors. Speeds through power points and gives you 2 minutes to work on a problem and turn it in in class when the problem could take you up to 10 minutes. Rushes through everything and gets irritated when we asked questions.
If you're not good at math, don't take this professor. I had such a difficult time in this class. She teaches the material off power points and gives your like 3 minutes before class ends to do a worksheet. She teaches you how to do statistics, but doesn't teach you when to use the different formulas and why. Horrible experience.

She's a tough teacher, so if you want an easy class, you won't find it. She's not a bad person, but she flies through powerpoints & leaves many students w/ missing notes. She won't post powerpoints until generally after she starts them so going in prepared is hard to do. She also seems to get angry when people ask questions. Avoid is possible.
Professor Mathews is a good teacher in the sense that if you have a hard time understanding material, she will explain it well. BUT her quizzes and tests are very difficultly graded. She says attendance isn't mandatory but she gives random in class assignments it seems like to spite the people who didn't show up.
Worst professor I've had BY FAR! Teaches almost exclusively through lectures and unable to rephrase herself if you need clarification. Went to her office hours for extra help after failing an exam, and she was completely distracted and unwilling to answer the questions I had. Avoid her at all costs.

She says that if you go to class you will pass her class went to every class and still failed. I asked her for help and she was not willing to outside of class. Shes been known for writing her own reviews so beware of the "awesome" ratings they are probably her and you will soon understand the poor ratings given if you decide to take her class.
Professor Mathews is not a good professor to take if you are just okay or not great at math. I normally don't struggle with math and she was a hard professor. Her powerpoints are unorganized, she reads right from the slides, doesn't explain things well and makes you feel stupid for asking questions. Definitely do not recommend.
I'm usually an A/B student and have received an exceedingly low grade for this class even with the help of tutors. Prof. Matthews is very lecture heavy and unclear. She rushes through things and leaves little time for questions. Be prepared to do lots of webwork and study for tricky tests. I would not recommend taking her.

Not a good professor. Does not explain things well and very rude to you if you need extra help. She copy's and pastes other people's work on to a PowerPoint and reads off it entire lecture. Gets problems wrong all the time which makes it hard to stay focused if you're not good at math. Do Not Take Her!!!

This course should be very easy, college algebra. However, she rushes through her lectures and gives no one time to understand or comprehend the material. When it comes to tests, it is mandatory to do the section reviews to remotely pass any of her tests. This is a course, and a professor that is trying to weed out people.
Prof Mathews's class is a lot of lectures. I learned a lot in this class. I used her office hours a lot. And I got an A in this course. I don't think it is hard to do well in her class. I will take her again. She gives in-class assignments so it is important to attend class if you want to do well.

In Ms Mathew's class if you do work and go to class you have no reason not to pass. I thought I would get a B- , but I ended up with a B+. She uses an on-line textbook which makes it hard sometimes. Inclass activities help a lot with your grade. I will for sure recommend her.

I took Professor Mathews MTH 110 last semester. She gave us lots of opportunities to do well in the class by giving us in class activities. She does not allow you to make up for them if you miss class. She is also very nice if you need help. i will take her again.

Gets problems wrong when working them out in lecture quite frequently. Makes students feel dumb when asking questions, if it's questioning her work on a problem sometimes she just looks at you, mumbles under her breath and moves on like nothing happened. Doesn't help you unless you visit her office hours. Would avoid taking. Do not recommend.
Prof Mathews is someone whom you will learn a lot from. She provides handouts. She gives us practice problems to work. If you attend her lectures and do her practice problems, you will do okay in her class. Her tests questions are similar to the practice problems. She grades a little hard. Professor Mathews, could not rephrase anything. Students would ask her questions about problems she went over and she would reply the same way she had before. Only one method of teaching, does not know any other ways to explain the material. Does all the problems in the handouts for students. Do NOT TAKE HER!
Professor Matthew speeds through lectures which makes it very difficult to understand. She does provide handouts but often posts them to black board just hours before class which makes them very inconvenient to print. I attended every class, utilized the math center and received tutoring; however, I will still be retaking this class.
Prof Mathews gives us what we need for this course. Handouts are available in blackboard. She lectures and is very dedicated to her job. She is always on time. I feel I learned a lot. If you want to know College Algebra, she is the one to take. I recommend her. If you are looking for an easy professor, then she is NOT for you.

Ms Mathews gives us wonderful notes. She is organized and actually teaches us. I took this class the second time this semester and I got a grade that I never dreamt I could get. I love her for it. She is an amazing teacher.
If you go to class and do what is clearly expected you will do well. This is college! I loved her class. I will take her again and again. She is the best Math teacher in I ever had. AWESOME
Super nice lady outside of class. I just didn't like that she graded homework super harshly. Exams are super easy and it's the exact same problems we go over in class.
She is a decent instructor. She does not give extra credit. But she will drop the lowest quiz and homework grade. Not hard to pass her class. Attend class and you will be fine. She can be a hard grader. All in all it was a good semester for me.

This professor is really great. However, her tests are very large when you only get 50 mins to complete it. Overall, she teaches the material well, and if you go to class, you will do fine.

She tends to put questions on the tests on topics we spent less than 5 minutes on, while ignoring the subjects we spent way more time with. She also has pop assignments in class.

I took this class in highschool so it was like repeat for me. I liked her lectures and you need to attend to do well. The ones who don't like her are the ones who are clearly not doing well in class.
Honestly one of the worst profs I've had at GV. Does not care for her students, and is very bad at explaining. I have never met a prof that wouldn't answer questions on the day of an exam (3 or 4 hours prior to that exam). Format of the class is disorganized. I had an A until she made a "weighted average" which brought my grade down significantly.
I highly suggest not taking this professor. I went to every class, am good at math, and am still worried about my grade. Final exams are almost here and I still don't know my overall grade. She grades all tests differently, even when you make the same mistake as someone else, and refuses to help you when you ask. GV shouldn't be hiring her to teach
A great semester! She gives good handouts. If you are doing badly in the class it is not her fault. She does not give extra credit work. So if you want to pass her class, show up to class, do your homeworks and you will be fine. If you are doing badly, ask yourself why!

She's not a bad teacher, but it wasn't an enjoyable semester with her. Halve the time, we are just doing problems from an old, physical textbook. It is nice though, that her notes are in a packet that you have to print off. Makes following along easy.

Professor Mathews made college ALGEBRA hard??? Math is not my best subject but if i have a good teacher, then i am able to earn good grades. I did all the homework and practice tests. I studied for 8 hours for the final exam and received a 54%. She is NOT a good teacher and does not explain math well. Do NOT take if math is a bad subject for you.
MS MATHEWS is the WORST professor I've ever had at Grand Valley (or anywhere). She has no sense of communication with her students and is not clear with anything. Each day she goes on the board and does math problems on her own and expects everyone to understand. Can honestly say that she didn't answer one question all semester. Goodluck
Unless this is the only professor available for this course and you need to take it, do yourself a favor and don't select Prof. Mathews. She was one of the most ineffective professors I have had in my 3 years of college. She only knows how to explain concepts in one way, so questions just go in circles. Can still manage with a lot of hard work..
one of the worst professors i've had at gv. she speeds through lectures and never answers questions. she's not understanding or reasonable. super tough grader. tests had stuff we barely learned and not on things we actually spent time on learning in class.
