Hands down the best professor at UCSB. He makes class fun, it was the first time I looked forward to going to class because of the professor (and physics of all classes). He's so helpful and has a genuine interest in the subject and really wants all students to do well. His tests are straightforward and he's really helpful and funny.
Really friendly!
Great lectures and works well with TA to make sure sections are helpful also. Office hours are more than worth the student's while. Very friendly, very straightforward, very good teacher overall. His homework prepares you for his exams, both were challenging but manageable.
Favorite professor thus far at UCSB! Hated physics prior to his class, made it interesting. Has an accent but is easily understandable and often makes jokes making class more fun. Forces his students to participate and involve themselves in lecture. Always available for questions
Makes a difficult subject fun with examples. Goes out of his way to make sure you completely understand. Encourages questions and participation and is always available for help. Super friendly!
Dr B made this class more interesting than any physics class I had taken in the past. It was very challenging and I had to push myself to do well.
Excellent professor and always entertaining. Makes a difficult subject interesting/fun to learn and makes jokes throughout lecture. Overall pretty difficult because of the material but he really makes an effort to make sure you understand the topic. Overall excellent professor and by far one of my favorites.
Dr. B. is one of, if not THE best professor I have had at UCSB so far. He is engaging and entertaining. He will always thoroughly explain anything a student asks him. He tirelessly works to help students and makes sure they understand. In his words, "Is it clear? Is it crystal clear? Let me show you again."
I took physics 20, freshman year, and I am glad I had Dr. B as my professor. He makes the class incredibly fun, and makes sure that everyone understands him. He is really friendly and approachable. The class itself is not very easy, but if you pay attention in class and do the required work, it wouldn't be difficult to succeed.
Nothing else to say. Just take him!!!!!!!! and you will not be disappointed!!!!
He is a very helpful professor who encourages students to ask questions and give input in class even if its wrong. The class and tests are fair put effort in and you will do well.
Best Physics Professor! He really tries to help the students and getting them engage by asking various amounts of questions. His test where not too difficult. A lot of the questions on the test were similar to the ones on the homework, so do the hw! Overall, not too difficult of a class. Just put in the effort and you should be able to do well.
Had him first quarter for Physics 20 and then I liked him so much I applied to CCS and now he's been teaching me over a year. Absolutely, hands down, the best professor I've ever had. He's hilarious, is perfectly clear about what he says, and wants nothing more than to teach everyone the best he can. If you want to love Physics, take him.
Great professor who loves the subject and helping students. Very approachable and is fair in his tests and quizzes.
He is the best professor I've had at UCSB! He genuinely wants you to succeed. Not to mention he's really funny
Dr. B is the best. He is so nice and really cares about the learning of his students. There are a lot of assignments that contribute to your grade and lots of places to get help. His tests are fair and are a direct reflection of what you learn in lecture.
Nice guy but was never able to connect with what he was teaching. He would waste a lot of time deriving equations and asking for class participation on questions that nobody had interest in. Never did any real problems in class and left class feeling like I didn't learn anything. The midterms are pretty easy though, homework is horrible.
He's a great guy and really cares about you doing as great in his class as you possibly can. The midterms are fair, but the final will really test whether you understand the material or not. Do not solely rely on his practice questions for the final. Understand how to do the online homework problems too, because those are fair game unfortunately.
His lectures are clear and he is hilarious. He has iclicker questions and weekly in-class quizzes. He assigns a low amount of homework, though each one usually has at least 1 difficult question. His midterm is extremely easy, but his final is extremely difficult; do not rely on his practice final. He has a pre-set curve and seems willing to help.
The best professor I've had at UCSB hands down. Genuinely cares about the class understanding the material, goes as slowly and in depth as you need, and is goofy in a very endearing way
Tengiz is a really funny professor but his lectures are confusing and usually all over the place. He's really into physics which is cool, but the homework, lectures, and tests have almost no correlation.
Bibilashvili is really funny and that gives you a good reason to come to class. He's willing to help you out, but he also expects hard work from you which is fair.
Dr. B is so sweet! His lectures are easy to understand and he's pretty funnyentertaining. His tests are fair and if you pay attention in class and do the homework you'll probably get an A.
One of the best professors I've ever had at UCSB. His lectures are very entertaining. His class is straightforward. Do well on the homework and quizzes and you'll do well on exams: no tricks.
Best professor ever!!!!! Tests are reasonable and he explain things really clear. His class prepares you for the HW and test. He is also super friendly. Go for him and you'll never regret.
The happiest professor I've had yet, always so cheerful and energetic. He likes to incorporate jokes into his lectures and encourages students to answer/ask questions. However, it's recommend that you take CLAS or go to PSR if physics isn't your strong suit.
Pay attention for the quizzes. Definitely conceptual and not math so be careful how you study, that's how I messed up the midterm and had to haul ass for the final (worth 60 percent).
Super sweet man. He says multiple times that his class isn't meant to be hard and he means it. Go to class and pay attention and you will do fine. Honestly, I screwed up an easy class by not going and not paying attention when I went.
very happy professor. i found his lectures very confusing and difficult to understand. midterms are harder than the final in my experience.
I don't know what he is like for easier classes but for 110B I have to say he is the worst teacher I have ever had. The man can confuse you about stuff you already know. He teaches out of several books at a time and all of them are graduate texts. His homework assignments are ridiculously long and hard.
Strong accent and hard to understand. Tries to be funny and often is not. Tries to help. Midterm harder than final. Does a huge 20% curve at the end of the quarter. Uses clicker and has quizzes once a week. Stay on top of the material.
Amazing. Wish that he could teach all of my classes.
Dr. B is the best physics professor Ive had at SB. Takes the times to make sure students understand the subject matter. Exams are reasonable, homework is not too difficult, end-of-term curve is very generous. Has the ability to explain abstract concepts in a simple and easy to understand manner. Wish I could have him for every physics class.
Great teacher. Hilarious.
He is a great lecturer who cares about his students, but there is a lot of homework and tests are tough and sometimes unclear
Best, most inspirational physics professor I've ever had. Able to explain abstract concepts in the most simple way.
Home works are very hard, however midterms and finals are much easier.
Dr B is the best he's hilarious and often stops mid lecture to give an inspirational speech or two. Midterms were straightforward, the final was difficult but the end of the class curve was generous
The material in this class is pretty boring but Dr. B's mannerisms and accent really keep you engaged. He's an amazing teacher, you learn A LOT in class. He genuinely wants to give everyone an A and is very committed to helping students succeed. REALLY wish he taught the whole series. This class is HARD, do the hw, the reading and GO GO CLASS.
Professor Bibilashvili is still my favorite professor so far. I had him for physics 20 and 21 over a year ago. Crystal clear in his explanations for problems. He is super caring, and will still meet with me to help me figure out my schedule or answer any questions I have about what classes i should take or whatever.
My favorite professor in UCSB! He is super caring and he makes everything crystal clear. I wish I could learn E&M and Quantum with him...
Dr.B is a really good professor. He always answers my question. The course is not easy, but if you ask question when you are not sure, it's not difficult to get a good grade. He really wants his students perform well. Once he answered my question until 1 min before his next class, so nice! Homework and practice is harder than test, so work hard.
Generally good professor, making sure every student in the lecture is following him. Course materials beyond lectures are very crucial to be studied. He grades a bit tough. He will make sure the average grade be around B-. And this time the A+ line is 99%, which is really strict, and I got 98%, hmm...
Brilliant professor, makes great lectures. He's willing to answer all your questions and is definitely helpful. Has a bit of accent but if you pay attention then it's fine. If you're not good at physics the course might seem hard, but review sessions cover basically the same type of questions as midterms and finals so go to them.
Dr. B was amazing. He is enthusiastic, funny, and caring. Good at teaching complicated concepts. Wants all of his students to succeed, and is always willing to give advice or inspirational speeches. Weekly quizzes and iClicker. Homework and tests are long and difficult, but if you work hard and study you will be fine
I have taken 11 classes (7 CCS classes, 3 upper division classes, and 1 special relativity seminar) with Dr.B and never regretted a bit. He is my best mentor and he helped shaped me as a beginner physicist. He is always available to answer my questions as I bump into him. And he is always willing to understand my confusion before giving an answer.
Awesome professor, and makes you learn thermodynamics really really well. Highly recommended!
Dr. B had been instrumental in inspiring me to be a better physicist and aspiring physics educator. His lectures are of amazing quality and his ability to answer questions and clarify complex misunderstandings is an extremely unique quality. His passion for physics and his work ethic as an educator are unmatched. I would recommend him to anyone.
If this professor is available take him. The course will be difficult no matter the professor, but Dr. B does it right. You won't regret it!
Really Nice Professor!
Very clear with words, notation, and logic. A+ lectures! I have had Dr. B twice now, and I think his class is generally easier than others, for better or for worse.
Took this in Winter 2021. Dr.B is caring and nice. Lots of HW: 2 Latex reports, weekly HW and quizzes. Got a 73% in midterm and 85% in final, and still got a A. So dont worry, Dr.B will give u the best grade u can have. The practice final is very similar to the final. He is very committed. Lectures are clear and rigorous. Join him if u can.
Dr. B is sooooooooo nice!!! He taught in a super interesting way and delivered everything in a super clear way. He was very patient in repeatedly doing examples until everyone understand and answered all questions students asked during the lectures.
Dr. B is an amazing teacher, his lectures are the best, he always manages to teach you something interesting and challenging while also making these new things easy to approach and learn. GOAT
Had a great time in this class!!! Yeah it was a bit hard but totally manageable. Definitely recommend to brush up on calc.
What a guy. He is so honest and kind. This class is geared towards preparing you to be a Physics major, but I wasn't even a Physics major and still found the class rewarding. We talked about imposter syndrome, planned our classes, and got to talk to a variety of guest speakers. Even if you weren't in Physics, you can get so much out of this class.
Dr. B is simply amazing. When he teaches, the understanding of students is paramount to him. He loves answering questions in class and office hours and helping students understand difficult topics. He is super passionate about teaching and it makes the experience so much better. His grading policy is also generous, and doesn't curve down.
Dr. B is the greatest physics teacher at UCSB (possibly in the world). He makes physics fun and inspiring and helps you understand everything intuitively. Take every class you can get with him.
He is one of the best professors I've ever had. He truly cares about his students and always makes sure they understand the material. He makes lectures fun and engaging. Everything he does, he does to uplift his students and never bring them down. DR. B IS THE BEST!
Dr. B. was an amazing professor. He is extremely understanding, gives great lectures, is very accommodating, and makes himself very available to help. Physics 21 was a very difficult class however so be prepared to put in a lot of work.
He really cares about his students, he is funny and if you have a question ask it because he loves questions. He is the best professor I've taken so far. the only downside is that he has a lot of homework and I the grading is harsh.
Clear lectures and grading criteria. Midterm and Final were challenging but very similar to practice tests so review those well
I really like this professor, he makes learning enjoyable, and it's obvious he cares about his students.
Great professor! he genuinely cares about the students, loves when anyone asks or answers the questions, lectures were all fun and very informative. The midterm was a bit tough for me, mostly because of it was a summer course, and there wasn't much time to be prepared. However, the final exam was really easy, the average was 86%!!!
Among the absolute best of physics professors. Any opportunity to take a class with him is a privilege.
Dr. B clearly cares about his students a lot. He welcomes questions and never makes anyone feel like they have a dumb question. He is deeply committed to his students' understanding of the material and is especially good at explaining complicated things in a way that is accessible to his students. Overall an amazing teacher!
Took this course over summer. Clear lectures, very understanding.
Dr B. is one of the best teachers I have ever had. His lectures are engaging and intuitive; he has a certain way of explaining things that just made so much sense. He possesses so much caring about his students and is willing to meet at anytime; beware that slots for meetings fill up quick!
Dr. B is a wonderful person but overrated by many in the department. His lectures lack coherence and feel disjointed, and he focuses more on specific problems rather than building a good foundation in the subject. Tests and material are challenging but grading is generous. There are better professors in the department if you actually want to learn.
Simply the best physics teacher/professor I've ever had. He is extremely caring and always reassures that no question is stupid whenever someone asks. Lectures are very clear and lets you see the big picture. Accent is not a problem, but adds to his fun charm. Extra credit if you do homework in LaTeX! He is one of the GOATs in my humble opinion.
Same as always. FANTASTIC professor that treats his students as first priority. Do not hesitate to take any class he gives, there is a near 100% chance that you will learn a lot of stuff. (You still have to earn your grade though, obviously.) (INT 84AH is his LD special relativity seminar)
Physics CS5 is a P/NP CCS lower-div QM introductory course. He is the supervisor and the actual lecturer is Mr. Simon Blanch, a junior physics major. The whole course is fantastic, like all previous courses I took with him. Credit needs to go to Simon too, but since he is not a prof, I'll express my gratitude here instead. Thank (both of) you!
INT 84AT is, on paper, Dr. B's blackbody radiation seminar; but it's actually a full-blown thermodynamics introductory course. The course is fantastic and also quite difficult for me, but as with all other Dr. B seminar courses, there is nothing a couple of all-nighters can't solve. Grade: A+.
he is a good professor, can be a little difficult in a six week course
AMAZING professor that you CANNOT miss in UCSB. Very clear in lecture, very helpful in homework and exams. Also he is caring about students and gives many directions in physics career. The world best professor from my view.
Physics CS34 is the CCS lower division E&M course. I legit don't understand who needs to check Dr.B's rating at this point, but here we go: FANTASTIC professor, make 200% effort to make sure to get the course content. Just take his classes, go to his office hours and have a fun chat with him!
he loves calling satisfying equations “cute”
He is the goat. I had him for a few other classes (PHYS8, INT86VW), and he always ensured he knew what he was talking about, unlike other professors. He can always provide a good answer to your question, and he encourages you to ask questions. He also gives good academic advice and will help you steer in the right direction.
I love that he wants people to ask questions no matter how "stupid" you think the question may be. He just wants students to engage and enjoy how awesome math and physics are which I think makes his lectures very fun. He creates a very comfortable learning environment.
Very funny and energetic man. He covers a lot of material in a short amount of time, but it is still understandable.
Hands down the greatest math class I have ever taken. Office hours are amazing, he explains topics in many different ways, and he cooperates extremely closely with his TAs and LAs to ensure that the students' needs are met. Tests and quizzes are typically his easiest assignments. He wants you to succeed, and he is extremely enthusiastic. Take him!!
funny guy and easy class
To put it simply, Dr.B just wants you to learn the stuff while still having fun. He records his lectures by bulk just to accomodate those that might not make it to the sessions. He actively tries to engage with us, cracks jokes, and thanks us when we point out errors or confusion notations on the board. Best part? He is having fun teaching us too.
I am a freshman at UCSB who was lucky enough to get Dr. B as my physics professor. He truly was an outstanding kind and caring professor. He highly encouraged in class participation and it was clear that he genuinely wanted all students to learn and enjoy his class. As long as you apply yourself in class and let him teach you will do great!
