I learned about odds of winning in Vegas.
he is really really good, excellent.......very helpfull and easy to get an A
He likes current events, must attend class. Current events are on the test
He was easy to approach and really wanted to help you learn...great teacher
Great guy...He knows what he is doing. A lot better than Miles.
Don't buy the book. Take notes and study everything he talks about even if it doesn't seem important.
Good teacher, a little quirky....make sure you pay attention to the currnet events. You really don't need the book; just borrow one from someone to do the homework!
The hardest thing is memorizing numerous formulas. Grades generously. Quirky at times, but not in a bad way. Goes over current events in every class and they are on the tests. Shows videos on the super rich and casinos that have no relevance to class.
he shows videos and lectures on business events not related to stats. But if you talk to him he will work with you
Tough class, boring subject, great teacher. Adds humor and interesting tidbits that you won't get from other professors. Take Dr. Decker for Econ 201 or else you are missing out!!! Did I just shift his demand curve?
U can't go to his class sleepy or u will fall asleep. There is alot of note taking. Boring. Makes jokes that are kinda stupid that makes you laugh. The 202 class the 1st test is the hardest. I got C's on my tests and made a B, if u try u will get an A
very smart helpful,
A lot of notes. Definitely easier than Miles, but not too easy. He is fair.
Good instructor. Monotone voice can be boring, but lots of notes keep you awake. Everyone should love the inflection on his voice. (point one two, three five six.) If you take the class, you will know what I'm talking about. Also, he loves Warren Buff
Good teacher. Gives good notes, don't buy the book just study the notes. Makes econ interesting.
will work with you if you ask 4 help
copy and study the notes he puts on the overhead including the current events study his review sheets will work with you if you need help
I didn't think I would do very good in this class and ended up with a B. The tests can be frustrating but hang in there. He is very helpful.
No idea why people think this guy is a good instructor! Didn't learn anything about economics during the semester. Just memorized current business events and who the richest people are. Very hard tests over theory that he doesn't even go over.
Good sense of humor. Actually caught myself laughing at the guy during a serious lecture. Very intelligent person. Gives extra credit to help your grade. Make sure to read your book though, or it's near impossible to understand some material.
have to go to class know the current events he tells you and study your notes more than the book easy teacher if you study just a little
Funny guy, likes to slip little sarcastic comments in the lecture notes and then never mentions them. Study good for the tests.
Completly useless, repeated everything, tested over items not gone over in class, but would show videos that didn't have anything to do with class! Very frustrating.
Good teacher!
doesn't explain himself, and gives tests over facts on an internet site that don't even make sense.
His lectures are easy.. he's easy to understand and speaks slowly and clearly enough to understand but his tests are HORRIBLE. It has very very little to do with his lectures. I hate this instructor but he's the only one who teaches it. AGH
Awful teacher. Gave no extra credt. Lectures have nothing to do tests. He is obsessed with money and showed VH1 All Access videos. He lefted early from classes and was very unhelpful. I cannot believe WSU is still letting him teach.
He's an okay instructor, but really needs to put better effort into making his exams fair. The material required to learn was extensive and a lot had nothing to do with Stats. This class should have been an easy A, but trust me its not.
Took this class during the 4 week summer session, what a blur! The good news was there was a MASSIVE grading curve so I came out OK. Some peeps complained about his current events that he tested over. I'd rather be tested over something I had read about on bloomberg.com than stats! All things considered, I enjoyed the class!
His tests were based one 3 things: Excel, current business events (he gives you), and websites. The first two were easy on the test, the websites were impossible. I had even taken stats before this (not nessary) and I couldn't read the websites. English please!!! The massive grading curve did exist but only favored grades below a A, nothing for A's
The MOST boring teacher in the WORLD! Yeah, maybe he knows what he's talking about, and he uses current events to keep things relevant....but, you have to be awake to benefit from any of that! He has THE MOST monotone voice I have ever heard. Put me to sleep in 5 minutes flat. I had to read the book and teach my self out of class.
If you need to learn about Warren Buffet, this is your man!
TERRIBLE teacher. Monotone voice, totally random, has no idea that students are falling asleep and not understanding. He would teach class for about 5-10 minutes and then talk about random rich people or make us watch a random video that has absolutly nothing to do with the class or the test.
Bottomline, this guy is an embarrasment to the Barton School of Business. Unquestionably, irrefutably, the WORST instructor in the b-school. I took the main stats class (231) last semester from Wolcutt and received an A. Now in Deckers lab I can barely average a 65% on his exams. Let that be a example of how pathetic an instructor this guy is.
Very passionate about Warren Buffet, Bill Gates, and some other rich people. He has a very sleepy voice. I had to move the front of class just to earn a C on the exams. I had no clue what the hell we were doing and I never missed a class. He goes off into left field and beyond alot. I only recommend his class if you have no other choice.
HORRIBLE teacher. You'll learn absolutely nothing. He curves like a mo-fo. So just make sure everyone is doing equally as bad as you and you'll do fine.
I think Mr. Decker is interesting to listen to and he knows what he is talking about. He is a little confusing and dorky at times but overall I think he is a good teacher.
He does not teach!! He stand up there and goes through the steps like a TV computer instructor for people who don't even know what a mouse is. In the end you don't even know what the heck we are really studying. He has a huge curve that brings your grade up alot, but HE WAS NOT BORN TO TEACH!!! Avoid this class if possible.
Bad teacher. You will learn nothing from his class! He does not teach well.
Huge curve. Very bad instructor. Does not teach.
Think Ben Stein from Wonder Years and Visene eye drops commercials without personality. I am not sure what knowing the largest French Insurance Underwriting company has to do with stats, but it was on a test.
A nice guy, but a terrible teacher. His notes are completely random and vague. Also, you may think you know the information, and then you get slammed with a test. Have fun trying to do good in this class.
He doesn't teach. Problems are written on the board when class starts and he enters the room 30 minutes later. When he shows up he quickly breezes through the work pretending like we are all statisticians. For the remainder of the class he gives us useless notes about semi-current business events and we watch a 3 year old cnn broadcast.
Awful, the worst techer I've every had, anywhere. Tests have absolutely nothing to do with anything. No book or study materials. Only teaches about Warren Buffett and Bill Gates. From talking to others who have taken the class, it doesn't matter if you come every class and study hard or don't ever show up and do little studying, you get a "C".
had him for two classes in the same semester, big mistake, the only reason i was able to pull off A's was because the class averages were 69 and 72, so my 85 and 87 were A's
Extremely boring lecturer. Would advise not taking a class from him at 8 in the morning. Some questions on the exams were from material not assigned. Would avoid if possible.
He's interesting to learn from, knows the material, always willing to help if you don't understand. Got an A although it's my first semester studying and I'm an international student. Sometimes a little vague but spending some time studying helps to understand the material. Pretty big curves, Study just a little bit and you'll do good in his class.
Horrible teacher. Don't take this class from him. In class maybe 30 mins. Is obessed with Warren Buffet and Bill Gates. Teaches nothing about stats! If you can teach yourself without the use of a textbook or the help of a teacher then you will do well. (He compiled the textbook and it's useless)
Mr. Decker is apparently auditioning to be the next host of "Lifestyles of the Rich and The Famous". He definitely didn't let irrelevant topics like international finance get in the way of his Warren Buffet lectures... nice guy. Very curvy, on tests =).
Don't buy the book. Attend class, type the notes and study. Learn the math well because its on the final. There is a curve but you still have to earn your grade, if you want the A you have to earn the A. If you study its possible if your lazy you will earn B at worst C. Most people earn B.
I liked the fact that the class is normally out in 30 min. The material is a little hard to grasp. By the 2nd test you finally know how to answer questions that were on the first test. The curve is 65-77 C, 78-89 B, etc. The tests are mostly multpl choice. He lets the students vote on stuff like comprehensive finals and such.
brilliant when it comes to knowledge of rich people although that was half the class.
You honestly don't have to show up unless you want an A. He curves everyone practically to B but you have to earn your A. Read to book if you plan on passing. His tests kinda suck on the fill in the blank and math tramendiously. Lots of people would only show up on exam day. You can't go wrong by taking this class. He really nice and tries to help.
Very nice teacher, definitely knows his stuff and is willing to help anyone that may need extra help. I think his lectures are entertaining with all his random stories and jokes. He grades on a curve because tests are hard so study!
this is one of the hardest classes I have ever taken. The text reads like stereo instructions and the lectures are the same. In the end though, thanks to Dr. Deckers' generous grading curve, I was able to pass. will I use this class, probably not, but I had to take it.
If You are a visual learner, do no take this class. If u can read his mind, you will be just fine. His class is dull, grading is unclear. He never post grades on blackboard and when he does, he does not post the real grades based on the curve but what u actually got out of total points possible.
BORING TEACHER! monotone voice!! will put you to sleep for days!! only take this from him if you are good at math.. tests are not that hard if you read that chapters and do your homework but just SOOO DULL.
Most boring class ever. Monotone voice, almost like a robot. He uses business videos and Business questions come up on test.. Easy to salvage an A or B in the class.
Think Ben Stein from Ferris Bueller's Day Off. He's pretty dry. Class isn't particularly interesting either and he strays from the subject frequently. During one class we went on "bored.com" and looked at the Mystical Ball...had nothing much to do with statistics, at least in my diagnosis. Memorize the Forbes' 100 List and you'll be good to go.
Get the book (you will need it for mandatory homework). Do the practice problems he gives you for the test. Ask him questions. Do the practice tests. Nice guy, but a bit dry sometimes.
Decker is the coolest teacher ever. Funny and knows how to teach. He is in it for the students and is very helpful. Best teacher Ive had at WSU.
Decker is a G! Hilarious dude. He is also swole in the mind functionality of statistical information. Take this class if your not too stupid to get his jokes.
This teacher is a bad teacher. I took this class because my friend told me he is easy and received a D on my first test. I have a 3.9 GPA and I think I could pass this class with a C. His tests have NOTHING to do with ANYTHING in the book, it's all random! Also gives no homework, can't learn w/o it! Overall worst teacher.
Was a helpful teacher but monnotoned and boring. Curves the test and homework load is light. Decker provides a study guide for each test and goes over it in class. Overall I would recommend him.
Statistics isn't necessarily an easy subject, but Decker definitely simplifies things more than any other professor I know in the subject. I wasn't interested in Stats at all, but now I'm considering an Econ minor. Decker puts a few tricky questions on the tests, but you don't have to memorize many formulas. Study and you're fine. Great guy.
He is very dry and boring. He meant well by trying to grade on a curve. However he used trivial questions of who the richest people in world are on the test (use it as extra credit r tie it to statistical problems but did not). I love statistics and math as an accounting major, but had to teach myself.
He is really hard, you have do the HW and the study guide if you want to pass, if you want an A you have to study A LOT. He curves every exam which is nice and fair for how hard his exercises are. He is one of the best professor at WSU.
I am not sure why he got semi-bad reviews. He is an amazing professor. Tells you everything you need to know on an exam. Class is fairly simple as long as you're good at math. He is such a nice man as well. He explains everything well and answers everyone's questions. I really enjoyed this class.
Decker was an awesome guy. Funny, down to earth, means well, very knowledgeable. Class was hard if you didn't pay attention. Study guide was exactly what was on the test. He would curve test scores as well.
Nice guy. I felt there was way too much emphasis on random facts that he found interesting and would put on the test. Not a lot of statistics. We only covered five chapters and the only time I used the book was for the three homework assignments. Memorize all the random facts from the slides each class...they will be on the exams.
Very dull. I had a hard time paying attention in his class, but he is a nice man. He puts some of his notes online to help.
Decker is hilarious! Odd guy but he means well! He really cares about students passing his class at all costs. I do not like statistics but I passed his class with a high C because of his "random facts" that he puts on his tests! He's such a nice guy. You can opt out of his final if you like your grade. By the way, he REALLY likes Warren Buffet.
Dr. Decker is hilarious and he makes learning statistics fun! I would definitely recommend him! Not only did we learn about statistics we also learned about recent business news! Very knowledgeable and easy going! Take his class you will love it!
Awesome guy and fun class!
I loved his sense of humor and the variety of information he brought forth within the class. I had trouble with certain material and I would speak to him after class and he would be eager to evaluate my concerns. People say his lectures are dry and that he himself is "boring", but I think he's great!
The test were in-depth for a 4 week summer class but overall between the book and notes in red he was a fair teacher. I would take another class with him again.
Terrence is a great guy. His class has very few tests and has small assignments. He's really funny and is very nice. He lets the students vote if we want the tests on different days or assignments to be pushed back. Tests are fair. He's extremely knowledgeable so get ready to learn some cool stuff
Decker was one of my favorite professors. I have taken 2 courses with him. It is important to take notes, ask questions, and study hard for the tests. Tests are tough. As long as there is a GOOD effort made, you should receive a B in the class. Go over notes and practice problems repetitively to understand the concept. Great teacher!
Interesting character. Good teacher, and great at relating what we learn in class to the business world.
Decker is an awesome Stats teacher! Make sure you go to class or you'll have no clue what you're doing on exams. Study from the study guide and take notes! READ THE BOOK IF YOU WANT AN A IN THE CLASS!! Final is optional, if you're happy with the course grade at the end of the semester.
Dr. Decker is a very monotone professor. He grades on curve and it is nearly impossible to get less then a C in his class. I'd definitely suggest taking it form him.
He gives a lot of random facts unrelated to statistics but they will likely be on the tests. Obsessed with Bill Gates and Warren Buffet. He is funny sometimes.
Overall, the class was okay. Dr. Decker is a nice guy, but he is not the greatest teacher. The tests are mostly multiple choice, but are still hard and he doesn't tell you what is on them, so you have to study everything. I took it as a 4-week class and there was a LOT of information to process. Fortunately, he grades easy and there's a small curve
I am NOT a math person...I don't even know why I signed up for this class. After the first test, I was sure I would fail. By the end of the semester, I had a high B. You really have to do your part to pass this class. It IS NOT easy. Only 4 tests and that's about it grade-wise. But he does grade on a curve. Idk what happened, but I passed.
Professor Decker is a great Professor who does a good job in explaining the content. He has a good sense of humor too. You must take notes and especially write down the random facts he gives you, they will be on the exam, then the class should be an easy A.
Decker was an awesome instructor. I enjoyed the class because he gave us extra credit questions called red items--which contains current news related to Business Stats, even though they were not mentioned in the book. On top of that, his exams were easy. You just need to look through the materials he provides for the class.
He knows his subject and does a pretty good job of relating it to students. Yes, there are random business facts but he tells you ahead of time that they will be on the test. The only thing I didn't like was that the tests sometimes contained random questions from the textbook we rarely used except for practice problems. Grading is lenient.
Classes are based on 4 exams. First 3 is mandatory (duh) and covers topics learnt and he specifies these topics which will be tested and also gives us a sample paper for each tests which is helpful. 4th exam, the finals is optional if you are happy with your current standing. Not too difficult but the subject is boring. His lectures end early.
Decker is an excellent professor for the course. He gives you a decent amount of assignments, and he provides curves for every exam. The method of doing well in the course is to just go over what he showed to the class. You'll be guaranteed at least a B or better.
Decker is knowledgeable and gives clear guidelines for the class regarding expectations and grading. Class attendance is important and the textbook is only needed for homework. He is very willing to give help if you need it.
Decker's lectures focus more on business news than statistics. His tests revolve around business news and the textbook.
Decker is an interesting dude. The class material is not so easy but he does a good job at explaining everything. Tests are very related to the examples in class and to the current-world events he talks about. He LOVES Warren Buffet.
Mr. Decker is a very likable guy and it is easy to tell that he knows his stuff. Has an odd way of incorporating real world scenarios into his lectures but it helps make the class more interesting.
If you pay attention and read the book, which I recommend renting, you will pass. He's got a unique yet funny sense of humor. The only thing I didn't like was how he taught us so much about other things besides statistics. He seems to really enjoy what happens in the world and he tries to incorporate that into the class, but it is irrelevant.
Do everything you can to not take a class from this guy.
He teaches the Money and Banking class more like an "events in the news class" and then tests over that AND the textbook, while he barely teaches anything from the book. Tests are impossible to study for. Only a few homework assignments that he does not even teach or go over. Did not enter grades in BlackBoard until Thanksgiving. Not recommended.
WHAT was this class. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS WITH THIS PROFESSOR UNLESS YOU WANT A BAD GRADE. I can not stress this enough. the whole class is very hard test over things he doesn't teach. If you want a good grade wait to take with a different professor and listen to this warning. SERIOUSLY.
His lectures are dry, given through Powerpoint. He gives very few assignments and a lot of textbook reading, but his mini exams are his main problem. He doesn't give any study guides, much time, or allow you to backtrack through them. The questions are hard and random. You'll be lucky to score a "C" on them. I will not retake this class with him.
Professor Decker gives lectures by reading a Word document written in all caps. Tests account for almost the entire grade. Homework is minimal, but you must read the textbook. Talks about current events in business and gives helpful study guides for tests. He focuses on grades, not understanding. I was disappointed that the class did not use Excel.
A disappointment. In lectures, he worked only the easy problems, and when students asked questions, his answers were superficial and incomplete. He spent lots of lecture time talking about famous billionaires, so test content was unpredictable and included many things not covered in lectures. I got a good grade but didn't learn much.
Classes were decent at best. The lectures were taught from a word document and he discussed relevant current events. We had a single homework assignment due and three exams that require you to memorize information from the lectures and all of the vocabulary from the assigned chapters. He gives out a small curve on the exams too.
I took this course in 8 weeks compared to the usual 16. I'm not sure if this course would have been drastically easier if I took it in 16 weeks instead. We had tests week after week with very little time for a lecture in between. Practice tests weren't extremely beneficial and he offered no study sessions. I don't recommend.
The concepts of this course aren't extremely difficult but this professor doesn't do a good job at explaining them. The only way you'll understand the info is if you show up to his study sessions. Tests are similar to the practice exams. Gives out prizes after every test. This class wasn't the best but it was bearable.
many of the slides he gives will give you more info on the richest people rather than focus on the course material, questions on exams have spelling errors and are sentence fragments that cause confusion.
Focuses too much on what's going on in the world and hardly spends any time going over the concepts in the book. He will also test you on stuff going on in the world that he doesnt make any mentions of and you're somehow supposed to predict what will be on the test concerning the real world.
Avoid at all costs. He is truly the worst professor on campus. Hard to reach outside of class, does not respond to emails. Lectures are confusing.
I was dreading this class due to the horrible reviews. I was very tempted to not take it. It was NOT THAT BAD. Buy the online version of the book and make a word document with all the notes to search for answers during the mini-exams. I got an A, and spent a total of 10-20 hours on this course through the entire semester.
His lectures are no help. Did not understand anything he was teaching. An amazing person no doubt! But his lectures were very difficult to understand.
He cut our class time from 2.5 to .5 hours a week actually covering the material. He never posted grades between the first and last week. He only occasionally posted his in class notes online, which were almost impossible to understand. Most of the lectures and exams were just random facts about billionaires. A very nice guy, but an awful teacher.
He is a very respectful and smart professor. However, I think his knowledge on the subject doesn't allow him to teach. Not responsive to emails. His power points or notes pages he posts are almost entirely useless unless you were in class. he curves test very high. Tests over random current events that have very little relevance to class material.
He expects you to read the chapters in the book, but they are difficult to follow and he doesn't go over them in class at all. Tests over random current events and will put things on the test that were not talked about or on a study guide. Expects you to memorize a lot of names. Very minimal grading, I have 5 grades inputted for the whole semester.
